Iowa and an Obama Campaign Thug

I learned from personal experience–and earlier than most–the lengths to which Obama supporters will go to stifle opposition to their candidate. My exposure involved a Des Moines attorney, Gordon Fischer, who is a past chairperson of the Iowa Democratic Party. Perhaps it is no coincidence that he is also a native of Illinois where he must have learned to love hardball politics.

Fischer was interviewed by the media extensively prior to the Iowa caucuses. He is most recently famous, however, for his untoward remarks about President Bill Clinton of a few months ago. After Clinton has the audacity to use the words, “McCain, patriotism and Obama” in the same sentence, Fischer wrote at the political web site he maintains (www.iowatrueblue.com) that the former president had left a stain on his own reputation “bigger than the one he deposited on Monica Lewinsky’s dress.” As an Obama supporter, Fischer is now calling–of course–for Democratic Party unity. He offered a lame apology in the interim but it’s not hard to see the way this guy thinks.

At the time Fischer was the Iowa Democratic Party chairman, one of my oldest daughter’s best friends from high school was a full-time staffer within the organization. She arranged for Fischer and me to have lunch last June in Des Moines (he bought) and I pitched him on supporting Hillary Clinton for president. Fischer remained uncommitted at the time.

In August Fischer wrote the Des Moines Register to advise them of a renewed launch of his political web site. He vowed to keep his comments “100 percent positive” at all times and to focus especially on campaign finance reform.

In early October Fischer announced with much fanfare at the Obama campaign that he would be supporting Illinois’ junior senator for the presidency. In a joint conference call from Obama headquarters in Des Moines coincident with this announcement, Fischer questioned Hillary’s progressive credentials and the favorability ratings that he considered unacceptably negative for her at the time.

I sent Fischer an e-mail reminding him of his pledge to keep things “one hundred percent positive” and questioning his motivations for backing Obama. Fischer immediately called Hillary’s state campaign director, Teresa Vilmain, to complain about me as one of Hillary’s volunteers.

About a month later I was visiting Fischer’s web site in vain attempts to find something…anything… positive he had to say about Hillary Clinton. I noticed a tab at the web site entitled “contributions.” I wrote Fischer to ask him how he could be soliciting contributions for his web site under current campaign finance laws when this venue was so obviously now an extension of the Obama campaign.

Although Fischer did not write me back, the next time I went to his site later that day the “donation” tab had been removed. I wrote Fischer again and noted this fact. I also told him that I was considering the filing of a complaint with the Federal Election Commission (FEC) against him.

Later that night (on a Sunday) I received an e-mail from Teresa Vilmain demanding that I meet with her to talk about Fischer. Obviously, he had been in touch with her once again to complain about my private correspondence with him. I refused to meet with Vilmain on the matter which I felt was between Fischer, the FEC and me.

The next day on his web site Fischer posted an item entitled “Iowa True Blue Makes No Cents” in which he ridiculed the “rants” that I had sent to him the previous day. He went on to belittle my open, honest and—until that time—private communications with him.

On the following day Fischer posted yet another item about me at his web site. This one was entitled “Honest.” He maintained in this piece that I was interpreting his actions as threatening to me and a form of intimidation. Yet Fischer has never attempted to explain the purpose of his calls to Vilmain or posts at his web site about me, let alone the intent behind them. I did write Fischer to ask if he, as a practicing attorney, routinely argues legal matters on blogs via the Internet.

A few days later I filed my FEC complaints against Fischer. I suggested that he had broken campaign finance laws and had compounded his problems by trying to keep me from filing my claims against him. As a practicing attorney and former head of the Iowa Democratic Party, I maintained in my complaint that Fischer should be held to the highest possible standards with respect to Federal Election Commission laws.

Within a couple of weeks, I received an acknowledgement of my complaint from Jeff S Jordan, a Supervisory Attorney at the FEC. It is now referred to as matter “MUR 5949.” Unfortunately, I have heard nothing since about this situation since November 6, 2007.

On October 29, 2007, Mark Daley of Hillary Clinton’s Iowa campaign staff asked me not to make appearances any longer at their offices in Des Moines. Daley was handling press relations at the time in Iowa for Senator Clinton. Formerly, he did similar work for the organization Gordon Fischer has headed, the Iowa Democratic Party. Although Daley did not explain his request to me, it obviously stems—in very large part, at least—from the many phone calls Gordon Fischer made to Hillary’s campaign about me.

I have never been more disillusioned about politics than I am today. On the other hand, disillusionment (e.g., to be disabused of our illusions) is mostly a very good thing.

Am I bitter? Yes, I am. Am I clinging more closely to my bible and guns? Again, I would have to answer in the affirmative, but I’ve grown quite a bit closer to the latter than the former based on this experience.

Wow. As many times as I read of the corruption and intimidation associated with Obama (even that which I have personally experienced), it never ceases to amaze me.

There is not line for these people; they see a chance for power and money and grab at it with the gusto of a drowning man struggling for a life preserver. Thank you for sharing your story here, and please keep us updated on your FEC matter (if you should ever hear anything more).

I would like to thank you also for reporting your experience with the Obama campaign tactics.

Like most, I was never under any illusions that politics or caucuses were fair, but this primary season has reveal such a stench in the Democratic party it has shocked even me.

The fact that this man had to resort to whining to others to try and stop you, rather than deal with you directly, also seems to be a trend with them. He can operate and hit below the belt but because you demand fairness, he has been put-upon?

It makes you wonder what type of instructions they received from the Obama campaign to be so consistant in these type of tactics. Geez…did they all go on one of those camaraderie building getaways to learn intimidation and other dishonorable tactics?

It certainly is just as important to keep any eye on these people in the states as it is Obama.

Thank you again for your efforts in doing just that.

they use thug tactics because they do not want to get involved with any legalities. That is how your illegalities get discovered! They want to stay away from anyone with authority over them and will turn the common man against you for punishment instead. That way it’s publicity on you and they deflect it off of them. That’s how con men operate.

Clinton Campaign Alleges “Voter Suppression and Intimidation” by Obama Campaign

“An egregious effort by the Obama campaign to manipulate the voter registration process in its own favor, thereby disenfranchising countless voters”

Although Hillary Clinton is now encouraging her fellow Democrats to vote for Barack Obama, she (or at least her staff) had serious concerns about the manner in which his campaign was conducting itself in Nevada. Click on the link for the complaint that Hillary Clinton’s campaign filed against Barack Obama’s campaign for what sounds a lot like election fraud and voter intimidation.

January 23, 2008
Jill Derby, Chair Nevada State Democratic Party 1210 South Valley View Road Suite 114 Las Vegas, NV 89102

Dear Chair Derby:
I write on behalf of Hillary Clinton for President (”the Committee”) in regard to the January 19, 2008 Nevada Democ-ratic Caucus. The Committee is aware of a letter addressed to you today from the Obama for America campaign requesting an inquiry into the conduct of the caucuses. The Committee shares the Obama campaign’s concern that full participation in the democratic process may have been compromised by the substantial number of irregularities occurring at the caucuses, and we fully support a complete inquiry by the Nevada State Democratic Party (the ”Party”) into all caucus improprieties.

This letter is not intended as a response to the Obama campaign’s letter. However, in the interest of a complete record, and in contrast to the alleged minor procedural problems noted by the Obama campaign, the Committee wishes to bring to your attention information we have received evidencing a premeditated and predesigned plan by the Obama campaign to engage in systematic corruption of the Party’s caucus procedures. Compounding this blatant distortion of the caucus rules was an egregious effort by the Obama campaign to manipulate the voter registration process in its own favor, thereby disenfranchising countless voters. Finally, the Committee has received a vast number of reliable reports of voter suppression and intimidation by the Obama campaign or its allies.

The Committee had 30 phone lines on Saturday to receive calls in its Las Vegas offices. These lines rang continuously from early morning until well after the caucuses concluded with reports from people who were victimized and who observed irregularities. The phone lines were so overwhelmed that many callers resorted to calling individual Committee staff cell phones to report that they could not get through. The Committee also received many similar calls at its national headquarters.

The Committee is confident that any investigation into the conduct of the caucuses will be thorough, fair and in the interest of insuring that future Party caucuses will be as open and democratic as possible.

Systematic Corruption of the Party’s Caucus Procedures
The Committee received substantially similar reports of improprieties of such a number as to leave no conclusion but that the Obama campaign and its allies and supporters engaged in a planned effort to subvert the Party’s caucus procedures to its advantage. For example:

þ Preference cards were premarked for Obama.

þ Clinton supporters who arrived late were turned away from the caucus, while late Obama supporters were admitted to the caucus.

þ Clinton supporters were denied preference cards on the basis that none were left, while Obama supporters at the same caucus sites were given preference cards.

þ Caucus chairs obviously supporting Obama:
o Deliberately miscounted votes to favor Senator Obama.
o Deliberately counted unregistered persons as Obama votes.
o Deliberately counted young children as Obama votes.
o Refused to accept preference cards from Clinton supporters who were at the caucus site by noon on the ground that the cards were not filled out fast enough.
o Told Clinton supporters to leave prior to electing delegates.

Manipulation of the Voter Registration Process
Numerous reports received by the Committee demonstrate a concerted effort on the part of the Obama campaign and its supporters to prevent eligible voters supporting a candidate other than Senator Obama from caucusing. The Obama supporters complained of were acting in positions of authority at the caucus sites. Some of these reports are as follows:

þ Obama supporters wrongly informed Clinton supporters that they were not allowed to participate in the caucus if their names were not on the voter rolls. However, Obama supporters whose names did not appear on the voter rolls were permitted to register at the caucus site.

þ Obama supporters falsely informed Clinton supporters that no registration forms were available for them to register to vote at the caucus site.

þ Obama supporters wrongly told Clinton supporters who were attempting to caucus at the wrong precinct that they could not caucus at that site, while simultaneously permitting Obama supporters at the wrong precinct to participate.

þ Obama supporters were allowed to move to the front of the registration and sign-in line.

Voter Suppression and Intimidation
The Committee received a substantial number of disturbing reports from voters that they had been subject to harassment, intimidation or efforts to prevent them from voting. Some of the most egregious of these complaints are described below:

þ Voters at at-large caucus sites were informed that those sites were for Obama supporters only.

þ Clinton supporters at at-large caucus sites were told that their managers would be watching them while they caucused.

þ Workers were informed that their supervisors kept lists of Clinton and Obama supporters, and were told that they could not caucus unless their name was on the list of Obama supporters.

þ Many Clinton supporters were threatened with employment termination or other discipline if they caucused for Senator Clinton.

þ Workers were required to sign a pledge card to support Obama if they wanted time off to participate in the caucus.
þ Workers at one casino were offered a lavish lunch and permitted to attend and register to vote only if they agree to support Obama.

The complaints summarized above represent only a small sample of the complaints received by the Committee. With respect to each of these complaints and many more, the Committee has the names and phone numbers of those reporting these incidents and the specific precinct numbers where the incidents occurred. Upon request the Committee will share these with the Party with appropriate safeguards to protect these individuals from reprisal. On the whole, these reports show a troubling effort by the Obama campaign and its allies and supporters to advance their own campaign at the expense of the right of all Nevada Democrats to participate in the democratic process in a free, fair and open manner.

Senator Clinton and the Committee are wholly committed to ensuring that every eligible voter has his or her vote cast and counted. There is no place in the American electoral process for the types of voter suppression, intimidation and harassment systematically engaged in by the Obama campaign, its allies and supporters.
Sincerely,
/v

And I can add to Jill Derby’s comments that in District 19 (Las Vegas), my district at the time of the caucus (I’ve since moved to a better part of town), there were countless rude, obnoxious Nobama supporters who harassed the voters on line for Hillary. One AA kid even harangued his mom, who was on line in front of me. It was bad enough to have folks of voting age acting so repulsively, why on earth are underage thugs allowed onto the caucus sites?

Being a transplant from the East Coast (and also having lived in rural W. Texas), I have a frame of reference for comparing caucuses and primaries. The former is wholly undemocratic.

Add to this the dirty machinations of the DNC/RBC, and it’s clear that Obama did not win fairly. Furthermore, it’s not a fait accompli until every super delegate has voted at the convention.

Obama is a Coward, not fit to be Commander-in-Chief

Obama AWOL For Military Base Event?

A coalition of military groups is planning a nationally televised town-hall-style meeting with the presidential candidates near Fort Hood, Tex., the largest active-duty military installation in the country. But so far, only Senator John McCain of Arizona, the presumptive Republican nominee, has agreed to attend.

CBS has agreed to broadcast the meeting live from 9 to 11 p.m. Eastern time on Monday, Aug. 11. The candidates would face questions directly from an audience of 6,000 people, made up of veterans, service members and military families from the base.

Senator Barack Obama of Illinois, the presumptive Democratic nominee, has not agreed to participate.

“Senator Obama strongly supports America’s veterans and military families and has worked hard on their behalf in the Senate,” said Phillip Carter, director of Mr. Obama’s veterans effort and an Iraq war veteran. “While we unfortunately had a previously scheduled commitment on the date proposed, Senator Obama looks forward to continuing the dialogue he’s been having throughout the country with veterans on how we can better serve our men and women in uniform as they serve us.”

Carissa Picard, managing director of the Fort Hood Presidential Town Hall Consortium, said she had suggested Aug. 11 and asked the campaign to suggest other dates if that was not convenient, but after several conversations she had not been able to work anything out.

“I’m having extreme difficulty getting the Obama campaign to commit to this event, and we do not understand why,” said Ms. Picard, whose husband is deployed in Iraq. “We made it very clear to them that if they would commit to the event, we would work with them on dates.”

The organizers released details about the event in hopes that it would pressure the Obama campaign to agree to the event.

“This was a decision that was made with tremendous difficulty, to publicize it,” Ms. Picard said. “We were at a point where we had no other option. We got the impression that they could talk us to November.”

Ouch.

Obama’s weaknesses showing themselves again. He knows NOTHING about the military; Obama has skipped most military votes during his short stint in the Senate. He knows his record on standing up for veterans stinks to high heavens.

Barack Obama is afraid, very afraid, of these voters , of answering their questions such an event. He knows they won’t be satisfied with platitudes.

Hillary Clinton would have been there in a HEARTBEAT; and she would prevail, reducing McCain to an afterthought by the end of the event.

How SAD for Democrats, that our party leadership has selected a “presumptive nominee” who thinks he belongs in front of the Brandenburg Gate to rally the masses, but doesn’t believe he belongs in front of military troops and their families to answer questions.

I think he should go and just give his standard stump speech but with one condition. It has to be in one of the many languages that the the multi-lingual poseur can speak. What? According to the messiah himself he can only speak…English? How can this be? Isn’t he embarrassed to be from a country where people can only speak one language? Did he not stress that the common folk should learn Spanish? Is this so that the commoners can stand in the corner waiting to translate for the pompous, elitist little mulatto that lays claim to the throne?

Obama is just another elite Democrat, weak on foreign policy, weak on military, weak on fiscal responsibility, big on touchy-feeling issues, and talks down to people.

He’s a throw-back, which makes it even more ironic that Jesse Jackson, Bill Clinton, etc., are more progressive and honest than Obama ever could hope to be.

He’s embarassing the shit out of the party right now. Turn away this invitation?

No way will he get by with this without a lot of commentary. It’s one thing to push aside McCain’s invitations unless he HAS to do it. It’s quite another to turn down the people.

Good for CBS for airing it. I will watch.

Well said, Ann.

Obama and the pathetic ‘leadership’ cartel of the Democratic Party are embarrassing. Pelosi and Reid’s Congress just rang up a 9% approval. Yep, NINE FREAKING PERCENT. And that’s with Dubya in office.

Our party is a complete joke. And, what’s worse, we have an arrogant punk who knows nothing smirking and preening like he’s the Second Coming of Bush and who will lead us to ruin if he is nominated.

Things could not be any worse right now. Obama is running from debates, running towards meaningless speeches in front of arenas in foreign countries, etc.

BaJoke Ofraudma is destroying our party. And he is getting a lot of help.

But we will not let him destroy our nation, and once he is defeated we will take back our party and restore some of its luster that has been lost due to the Amaya Smiths, Jimbo Clyburns and Jackson, Jr’s of the world. These people are a disgrace to the legacy of MLK, to their party, to their families and to themselves.

Enough.

We PUMAs are the deciders of this election and we need to realize that and act accordingly. The press is going to fawn over BaDork. So what? You haven’t seen the Bradley Effect until you see what awaits Ofraud due to people like Wright, Pfleger and ME-shell.

Perhaps if he could have a George W. Bush type radio back pack and hand out scripted questions for the members of the audience to ask?
Or he could send Hillary in his stead so she can do his heavy lifting. We all know she could go toe to toe with Senator McCain in a debate.

My daughter is a Sgt. in the US Army. This gentleman who wrote this email is for real. He heads the disabled vets in his area. This veteran sent this email to a list of service people and eventually got to me.

Subject: Mudmarine

I am a VHCM member, I spent 12 months in Vietnam (147th CH47-CE) as most of us did. I am also a disabled veteran; I have been a wheelchair user for 35 years now. A few months ago I went to listen to Barack Obama at a local college. When he was done with his speech I got in line to ask him a question. When my time came, my question was;

“Senator Obama; I work with disabled veterans throughout the VA Hospital system, what is your plan for our veterans, especially our disabled veterans who use the VA Hospitals for their care?”

I stated we need mandatory funding for our VA system to ensure the care is available when needed, especially in light of the current situation in Iraq and the numbers of troops who are coming home with severe disabilities.

He told one of his aides to get my name, blew me off, did not answer my question and I never heard from him or the aide again. Is this who we want to be our “Commander in Chief”?

He wouldn’t even answer a “veterans” question, regarding other veterans. Take it for what it’s worth…..just thought I’d pass on my experience with Mr. Obama.

Obama Backers on the Left are Wincing Now

When Jesse Jackson’s Castrato-gate or the Barack Obama Nuts Controversy or whatever you want to call it erupted last week—as captured by the hot microphones of Fox News—terrible cries of pain went unnoticed.

Not from Obama, who, as presidential historians will tell us after his inauguration in January, was the great beneficiary of the rhetorical (and never actually attempted) Jacksonian castration, and no cries from Jackson, either.

Jackson’s too busy to shriek. He’s suffering the ambition of African-American politicos eager to replace him as America’s race broker. And he’s been hooted down in the style of pre-Revolutionary France, by white liberals who once feared him, though they no longer feel compelled to feign interest in Jackson’s ridiculous rhymes.

The cries of pain came not from Obama or Jackson but from the American political left, from scribes and liberal editorial writers and broadcast analysts and eager bloggers. The true believers who evangelized that Obama would transcend politics as we knew it are suffering a Barackian hangover

Barack Obama – The Least Experienced Major-Party Presidential Candidate in 64 Years

But for those who prefer the roll of the dice, there’s always Obama. Just be forewarned: candidates with similarly slim resumés rarely win (Dewey lost twice, Stevenson lost twice, and Dukakis lost as well). And those who do manage to win? Do the names Carter (energy crisis, stagflation, Iranian hostage crisis), Clinton (impeached and disbarred), and George W. Bush (highest presidential disapproval ratings ever) ring a bell?

Comment by MrMike | 2008-07-12 10:20:45

Just to set the record straight, Ford would have suffered the same as Carter had he been elected.
And Bill Clinton did pretty darned good considering he had one hand tied behind his back fending off the attempted republican coup.
But for want of chastity a nation was lost. Had he not dallied with Monica Al Gore would have garnered enough votes, despite the Print and Broadcast media’s to elect G. W. Bush, that the republicans couldn’t have stolen the election.
With Al Gore as President 911 might not have happened or the disaster mitigated. We wouldn’t have invaded Iraq and have 4000 souls lost in Bush’s futile attempts to prove himself more of a man than daddy.

Comment by hank48188 | 2008-07-12 10:31:44

If the DEMS running the election in Palm Beach County, Florida had any idea how punch card voting works Al Gore would have won. In Palm Beach they put names on both sides of the page and it confused some voters, about 5,000 voters trying to vote for Gore ended up voting for Pat Buchannan. If that doesn’t happen Al Gore wins florida.

Comment by ritamary | 2008-07-12 13:17:55

Why don’t you mention Nixon? And where is this coming from that Bill Clinton was inexperienced? He was governor of Arkansas for several years. That is called executive experience, something that Obama sorely lacks. The Republican Congress spent years and millions of dollars investigating Clinton to finally come up with Monica.

Auchi !!! Ralph Peters Obama opinion piece.

New York Post: http://tinyurl.com/65n2xe

My fellow Americans, let me ask you: Were Abby Hoffman, Jerry Rubin and Sen. Barack Obama’s Weatherman Underground pals (who bombed their own country) really more patriotic than those who served in Vietnam? Was trashing the campus records office truly the “highest form of patriotism?”

and he also writes this:

The latest example of utter nonsense is Obama’s contribution, “The Audacity of Hope.”

My fellow Americans, there is nothing audacious about hope. Hope is what makes people buy lottery tickets instead of paying the bills. Hope is for the old gals feeding the slots in Atlantic City. It destroys the inner-city kid who quits school because he hopes he’ll be a world-famous recording artist.

Yes, hope can work to positive effect, sustaining us in the face of grave misfortunes. But there’s nothing audacious about it. “The audacity of hope” is blubbering gobbledy-gook.

Audacity is for innovators, risk-takers and crusaders – for those willing to stand in the fire of public opinion and tell a million people they’re wrong and here’s why. Audacity’s not for the passive mob hoping government will fix everything (while blaming government for everything).

Who would want this punkass for POTUS?

Unreal! Just freakin UNREAL!

He expects to get through this entire election without doing a debate or a Town Hall Meeting?

And the Democratic Leadership hate Hillary this much that they have bet the farm on this turkey?

Exactly what kind of president do they think he would make? Certainly not the kind I’d vote for.

Spike Lee:

Lee predicted Obama would be elected in November.
“When that happens, it will change everything. … You’ll have to measure time by `Before Obama’ and `After Obama,’” Lee said during the panel. “It’s an exciting time to be alive now.”

“Everything’s going to be affected by this seismic change in the universe,” he said.

“I’m for Mr. Obama,” Lee said. “I think he’s gonna win. And it’s going to be a better day not only for the United States but for the world.”

The arrogance and lack of qualification is just like Bush. The tactics are just like Rove. The DNC wants me to contribute to this?

What a joke.

He’s been funded all along by Republicans who wanted Clinton out of the way. Now the funds are drying up. Such bamboozlement. Such hoodwinkery. I didn’t realize there were so many suckers out there who would blind themselves to a snake oil salesman as long as he had a little pigment in his skin.

Frankly, I’m feeling schezphrenic! All the “fawning” on one side… the foul under-belly of the “O” camp on the other.Americans expect our process to work, but we are starting to look as divisive as the Sunni and Shia!

0bama proves each week that he is an ordinary Chicago Style politician.

My Heart aches to think of the ways in which Hillary could have inspired this Nation in such a time of need.

A mental walk through history’s not so distant past reminds me of what true inspiration was really like.

I guess Spike Lee thinks he’ll finally have a case against Clint Eastwood after Obama is elected and not sound as idiotic as he did claiming racism in Flag of Our Fathers casting decisions.

Sorry Spike. It won’t change the box office results. Eastwood will still take your directorial ass to the cleaners.

And Obama posing like JFK will not transform him into great presidential candidate. That too is a lost cause.

If you’ve been to the Larry Sinclair site, you can see the same type of thuggery – perhaps even worse, for it involves threats against him as well as his mother and other members of his family, These tactics don’t stop there, but go beyond to the posters at his site. Some of them have reported very believable incidents, some of which have been reported to law enforcement and there is hope that some of these will get the full treatment – prosecuted! The facts surrounding the notorious character from Houston are redolent of a mafiosa mentality. I am too frightened to mention his name.

Larry (Johnson), I saw your response above and you are right on the money again.

As an aside, I swim every morning in the Atlantic and joined there by a friend, an Annapolis Grad and Navy retiree, who, as well as his wife and 5 daughters, have drunk the KOOL-Aid. He is not on the Internet and relies on the MSM for his information. It is absolutely scary to think of how many more like him that are out there and and who are completely uninformed about the real and shadowy Barack Uhmbama.

We have to get Iowa off of the front line.

It is a messed up circus.
Their caucuses are civil rights violations of the American People, the Democratic Party should be sued on behalf of every voter who could not vote in the primary, not just in Iowa but in all caucus states.

They were denied the right to vote because of deliberate exlusionary practices that inlcluded protected classes of people under Federal and state laws.

I feel just as we all vote on one day in November, we should all vote on one day for the primaries.

This Iowa first crap is bull shit and I am sick of it.

What makes Iowa so much better than the rest of us? They are just another state and in this election, because they chose to caucus, they did not truly represent the will of the people in their state.

QUIT WASTING TIME ON DISCUSSING IOWA, IOWA IS PAST TENSE AND I AM DONE WITH THAT SCREWED UP CIRCUS CAUCUS VOTING STATE.

WE SHOULD BE TALKING ABOUT THE CAUCUS PROCESS ACROSS THE NATION AS IT IS A CIVIL RIGHTS VIOLATION AND AN EXCLUSIONARY TACTIC AND QUIT GIVING THAT IOWA FIRST CAUCUS THE IMPORTANCE THAT IT REALLY DOES NOT DESERVE.

WE SHOULD BE TALKING ABOUT THE CAUCUS PROCESS ACROSS THIS NATION AND DEMANDING THAT THERE BE PRIVATE BALLOT VOTING SAME AS ON THE GENERAL ELECTION DAY ALL ACROSS THE NATION AND WE SHOULD DEMAND MORE FROM THE FEC IN THE PRIMARY PROCESS.

THE DNC GOT AWAY WITH MURDER IN THIS ELECTION AND NO ONE STOPPED THEM.

SOMEONE HAS TO REGULATE THEM.

IOWA IS JUST ONE. LETS MOVE ON AND WORRY ABOUT THE WHOLE PROCESS.

OUR DEMOCRACY AND PARTY IS IN CRISIS AND THESE ARE THE THINGS THAT WE NEED TO BE ADDRESSING AS AN ENTIRE NATION.

I caucused in Texas. The system failed. People were either ignorant or contempuous of the process.
I have caucused 15 times. This was a disaster.

Thanks, I was wondering how this year compared to other years in the caucus states. It sounds like lots of new people were there.

If you have anything else you would like to share it would be very interesting to those of us in primary states.

The worst thing I’ve ever seen at a polling place was this lady who gave my husband flak for being an Independent in the early 90s. She gave him quite a mouthful about there was no such party, accused him of being unpatriotic, voter fraud, and playing games with an older lady. When my husband politely stated his case, the others eventually found the proper form, but she still gave him more of her thoughts the entire time we were there.

Tame stuff.

This is a fine story, but when I saw “thugs” I thought someone was coming forth with a story on the “thugs” who Obama sent into the caucuses to steal delegates through the use of fraud, theft, threats, and force.

Obama’s dirty, low-life, criminal thugs.

Fischer acts just like another repuglie. When will the people of this country demand honesty and integrity in their politics? Of course we who back HRC already do that.

The Des Moines Register carried a small story today about the Federal Election Commission having ruled 6-0 in my favor on a complaint lodged against me last November. I hadn’t ever written about the complaint for three reasons:

1. The complaint was completely ridiculous and unfounded.

2. I believe strongly in due process. We live in a great country, where a citizen with a concern — even if it’s one others judge ridiculous and unfounded — can take his concern to our government and have it investigated and acted upon. I did not want to interfere, or even appear in any way to be interfering, with that process.

3. After responding to the FEC last fall, I promptly forgot all about it (it was that ridiculous and unfounded) until I received a letter from the FEC last week with the ruling I had not violated federal election laws.

I won’t rehash the complaint here, but it is a matter of public record if anyone feels the need to know more. The Register’s Jane Norman did a pretty good job of distilling a bunch of nonsense into a summary of two charges in the complaint: that I somehow unlawfully colluded with the Obama campaign by saying positive things about the campaign on this blog, and that I had a “donate” tab on this blog by which readers could make contributions to the Obama campaign. As to the first charge, I’ll say it again: we live in a great country where free speech — yes, even that on political blogs! — is guaranteed by the First Amendment (the complainant is very much a beneficiary of that protection as well!). As to the second charge, as any reader of this blog knows, I have simply never solicited political contributions for any campaign or any candidate on this blog. I certainly have put up notices of fundraisers people can attend to support Democratic candidates (and will gladly continue doing so), but that of course is in no way a violation of federal election laws.

Oh, and I also should note the complaint was for some reason also filed against my wife (who, believe me, has little interest in this blog!) and she, not surprisingly, was completely cleared by the FEC as well. I thought the response she wrote to the complaint last December was kind of funny. Here it is:

“After reviewing the complaint, I am unclear exactly what violation of the FEC Campaign Act of 1971, as amended (”the Act”), I am alleged to have committed. I am referenced three times in the complaint. First, the complaint says I am the wife of Gordon Fischer. Second, the complaint says I was a senior aide to former Iowa Governor Tom Vilsack. Third, the complaint says my husband announced September 24, 2007 that he and I would be supporting Senator Barack Obama for president. While I do not dispute the veracity of any of these statements (in fact, I’m proud to say all three are completely true!), I do not think any of them indicates I have violated the Act in any way. If I misunderstand the Act or the complaint against me, please advise.”
