MAKING THE SQUEAKY WHEEL SQUEAK LOUDER

The response to our first ad which ran on Friday in the Chicago Tribune was great. It not only got across our goals it created a lot of media attention. [SEE THE AD BELOW THE FOLD.]

As many know, the Huffington Post did an article about us featuring the ad and we are in the front section today (Monday) of Congressional Quarterly Weekly.

We are now making preparations to do our first TV commercial. We have contributions steadily coming in but we need to keep the fund raising up to buy the TV time. The louder we can make the wheel squeak the more attention it will get.

And the wheel is going to squeak a little louder today because Heidi Li has been asked to do an interview today about the Denver Group and our goals on Fox News with Neil Cavuto on his show Your World today between 4pm and 5 pm eastern.

We can feel a sense of the tide shifting and atmosphere changing and the best thing we can do now is step up the pressure and television is a great way to do it. There will be more print ads but there is nothing like television to escalate the pressure.

As we said two weeks ago before we ran our first ad, while we love the large contributions, $5 from a thousand people buys as much media as $5,000 from a single person. There is no contribution too small and $5 helps just as much and makes someone just as much a part of what we are doing as $5,000.

You go, Geek!

I already contributed through your link and I just might have to pony up more for this incredibly important cause. Let’s help out, people! With ‘Bama tanking like the Titanic, if we can get this open vote on the nomination there is a very real chance that Hillary will be our nominee. That’s why the Bama Droids are scared to death and trying to shut it down.

The Denver Group is OUR voice to help get that open vote. Please, if you can help them, in any way, do so. This is our best shot now.

We have two good causes to donate for now: Retiring Hillary’s debt and helping The Denver Group. This is where a lot of focus should be now.

Screw the DNC and the Obama Minions. It’s our Democratic Party — we the majority who voted for Clinton — so let’s fight for it and help make things right.

Hoo-ah!

The Denver Group and PUMA/Just Say No Deal actually make me emotional–in a wonderfully good way. That so many people care enough to fight on–like Hillary herself–when they are being told they’ve lost, that they should “get over it” and fall into line, is incredibly moving. I am old enough to remember the devotion and idealism inspired by John and Robert Kennedy, the fervor surrounding Gene McCarthy’s anti-war candidacy, the enthusiasm about John Anderson’s third-pary run, the initial excitement about a virtually unknown peanut farmer from Georgia. But I have never seen anything like this. The Obamabots ridicule and try to undermine us. The DNC doesn’t understand the pushback and wants us to disappear. The MSM–for the most part–is missing one helluva story. They accuse us of being sore losers, closet Republicans, malcontents out for revenge because of a few pantsuit jokes. They just don’t get it.

Let them cover themselves in flag pins, PUMAS are the true patriots. As John Lennon sang, “Power to the People.” This movement is democracy in its purest form, enabled and intensified by the reach of the internet. The DG’s evocation of the Boston Tea Party is brilliant. I truly believe the Founding Fathers would be proud. Very, very proud.

Great post, MaryPat. You said it beautifully, and I could not agree more.

The PUMA/Just Say No Deal movement is becoming an entity larger than the sum of its parts. The Boston Tea Party analogy used in the ad is most apt. This is a grassroots, spontaneous effort to cast of the oppression of the ‘aristocracy’ of the DNC and Obama’s latte liberal backers who are determined to carry out their coup against the Clintons and the rank-and-file voters. No way, no how. We’re not having it, much as those who threw the Tea Party weren’t having it, either, 200+ years ago.

Thanks for your stirring remarks.

Frankly, I am not too interested in watching Hillary lose at the convention, whether or not she gets the respect of a roll call vote. I don’t want us to be reduced to that. I’d rather put my money into suing for Obama’s birth certificate.

Comment by SD | 2008-07-14 23:54:42

I have put my money where my mouth is and have now supported both Nader and McCain, hoping to get Obama defeated. I would also prefer to spend my hard earned money on something concrete, such as defeating Obama and the radical left wing, rather than on promoting symbolism.

By all accounts McCain is one term …. lol the Reps would never go for it … yet 18,000,000 of us would.

Comment by Johnny at Work | 2008-07-15 00:06:21

Talk about a whole lotta world shakin.

That would put an end the rule by the extremes in both parties. It would be incredibly bold, and exactly what is needed.

Comment by Obama is a bum | 2008-07-15 00:23:46

From what I heard, John McCain would actually like to pick Lieberman for VP but the Republicans would not be happy so he is off the table. With all of the conservatives complaining about McCain being a liberal, I don’t know how they managed to nominate him.

Comment by Gloria | 2008-07-15 00:34:47

If McCain picked Sarah Palin, gov. of Alaska, he would win in a landslide…

Comment by Obama is a bum | 2008-07-15 00:45:55

I don’t know much about her but I heard the Republicans think she may be a future star for them.

Comment by Hope Floats | 2008-07-15 12:42:41

Future as in not this election. Palin’s a bad pick this time. Christine Todd Whitman, Kay Bailey Hutchinson or Olympia Snowe would be all be good VP choices, if Obama’s doesn’t choose a woman on his ticket.

Comment by C.S. | 2008-07-15 06:56:28

They didn’t. McCain was like Clinton, more people voted for him than any of the other candidates. I always thought the Republican party was pushing Giuliana because of all the positive “spin” coverage but he just couldn’t get the votes.

And, I’ll even give them credit for realizing very early, unlike the Democratic party, that they had to have an un-Bush candidate more acceptable to voters in order to compete with the Democratic candidates, Clinton and Obama.

I believe both the Republican and Democratic parties worked very hard to make Clinton lose the primaries and I think they are still working for it which is why the media is using the psychological ploy of acknowledging the voter’s backlash with tepid words like

She may have given up but a few of Hillary Rodham Clinton’s people haven’t” or “clinging to hope” and “she might – might- still win“.

reeking of negativity when the reality is that this is one of the biggest blockbuster stories not covered by the media. Think about it, those 18 million die hard Clinton voters have not only revolted against party control but they have started a grass roots revolution! It’s like a spreading wildfire that the Democratic party is desperately trying to put out by using a flame thrower (Obama) instead of water!

We aren’t making history; we’ve made it and now the Democratic party bureaucrats are trying to erase it.

Comment by Newly Independent | 2008-07-15 09:23:07

Odd, isn’t it?

The crazy left hate Hillary, the crazy right hate McCain. But the moderates in both parties like them both.

Comment by Hope Floats | 2008-07-15 12:43:46

I think Mike Bloomberg would also be a good choice as McCain’s VP.

Comment by Denise | 2008-07-15 06:36:47

My husband and I were registered Republicans but we declared Democrat in the primary to vote for Hillary. My point being is that there are a lot of Republicans who do feel the same as we and also voted for Hillary. A McCain/Hillary ticket would seal a vote from a lot of we Republican’s.

They do that a lot when the “message” is the wrong one; ever notice any of them interrupting an Obama spokesperson?

Same with the candidates, these “unbiased” news readers (I never call them journalists) will actually get in debates with Senator Clinton but just sagely nod their heads when the Obama speaks.

This wheel should have been sqeaking a long time ago, instead it was Obama’s wheel squeaking and that is how they were able to strong arm the DNC and SDs to go with Obama. When Sharpton threatened to hit the streets and protest that got the DNC’s attention and there was no counter from any Clinton supporters that they would put up a similar effort if she were denied. I think the DNC assumed all of the Clinton supporters would fall in line without putting up any real fight.

Comment by Five Thirty | 2008-07-15 07:09:48

Plus the MSM demonstrated that they would constantly mock and revile Senator Clinton with gleeful spite. America can go down the terlet as long as the msm can make a joke out of the American heroes. More proof that the msm hates the middle class.

Gooo McCain! His surge has worked..{blink} He told Biush to get off his dead ass and get a plan..Bush had none so McCain shoved one in his face and demanded he use it..that’s McCains plan..(don’t get me wrong-I’m a die hard for Hillary)
Posting it here because the news has so little on the story.
According to the Arab newspaper Al-Hayat more than 150 militants tied to Al-Quaeda or the Sunni based Islamic Army of Iraq have surrendered to US forces after they turned over a list of the militants to local Sunni leaders. After negotiations with tribal leaders half of the Sunni militants were released after turning in their weapons and pledging to Sunni leaders and US forces that they would no longer participate in armed conflict in return for their removal from the most wanted list. Nearly 70 Al-Quaeda militants who surrendered were arrested.

The surrender of the militants to US forces occurred without a single shot being fired and demonstrates the strengthening bonds between joint US/Iraqi forces and Sunni leadership. 2 years ago this hand-over of militants would have never have occurred.
It is unfortunate that US mainstream media continues to ignore the positive events that are occurring within Iraq and the strengthening of our relationship within that country. We have made genuine progress in Iraq and are building a relationship that will hopefully leave our nation with a strong ally within in the region.

The turnaround in Iraq occurred with the onset of the “surge” plan that was pushed for by military leadership and adopted by the Bush Administration. The turnaround was only possible after the Bush administration made the decision to finally allow military commanders to develop their own plan for securing Iraq.

On the front page of the DNC’s Convention home page is this:
“Breaking the mold of traditional political Conventions, Senator Barack Obama will accept the Democratic nomination for President of the United States at Denver’s INVESCO Field at Mile High.”

Breaking the mold…no shit! How unAmerican!!!

and then in the FAQ, it has this:

“I have heard that delegates vote for the vice presidential nominee just as they would vote for the presidential nominee. Could this mean that the vice presidential nominee is not the choice of the presidential nominee? Could you please explain this process? – Fred, Snoqualmie WA
Answer: Very good question. We fully expect that the Party’s vice presidential nominee will be an individual, who along with Sen. Obama, can lead the Party to victory in November. Under the Party’s rule and the Call for the Convention, the vice presidential candidate is nominated in the same manner as the presidential nominee. At previous conventions, an actual roll call vote of states has been conducted for the vice presidential nominee. At still other conventions, the rules have been suspended and the vice presidential candidate is nominated by acclamation.”

They won’t put Hillary on the ballot. They’re too scared of her.

Comment by Ani | 2008-07-15 02:43:16

Marc,

Thank you so much — you and Heidi Li are doing a wonderful thing. I applaud you for working so hard to ensure an open and fair convention in August.

This is the way democracy is supposed to work.

We surrender these rights at our peril.

Comment by Thomas | 2008-07-15 02:55:00

Question: Obama and McCain have been statistically tied the last four days at Rasmussen Reports. If Barack is tied or trailing McCain, at the time of the convention, do you really think the DNC delegates will nominate barky in this “slam dunk” year for Democrats?

No group is that suicidal. Not even Jim Jones and Jones-town or the Heavens Gate group.

No way.

Comment by HolyGaucamole | 2008-07-15 06:04:14

I don’t know if suicidal is the word I’d use, but the phrase “dumb as a rock” comes to mind. Unfortunately, I think they’re that dumb. The idiots truly believe that between August and November, all of America will fall in love with Barky.

Comment by Bella | 2008-07-15 06:52:19

To be fair, I don’t think delegates should vote for a nominee based on some poll. Kerry was beating Bush in the polls all the way up to election day. Above the margin of error too.

This whole thing is messed up. Barry doesn’t have the pledged delegates to win, but neither does Hillary. So it’s up to the supers. I think that is unfair because why should their vote count for 30,000x’s my vote? If we have a winner take all delegate system for each state like the Republicans do, Hillary would be our nominee today!

Obama and the DNC rigged this primary election. I’d bet they even had plants in Hillary’s campaign to sabatoge her and I’m not even a betting person. I really believe her campaign was a mess and disorganized and it wasn’t her doing. She trusted her people and for whatever reason (DNC?) they let her down. There is just no excuse for that and if it was inside knowledge they would just rack up supers before Feb and only concentrate on the states before Feb 4th, that is just absurd! It’s like a larger scale Rudy one state stradegy and terrible management.

I stand with my fellow Hillary supporters, but sometimes I just feel like all our wishes are nothing more than a “hey look over here something shiney!” while Barry goes along and wins in a landslide in November. I want him defeated and am slowly moving on to do so. I just think the DNC would rather committ suicide before taking the nomination away from their chosen one.

/thanks for “listening” :-)

Comment by AnninCa | 2008-07-15 08:23:45

The SDs have already indicated whom they will support. At this stage, it would take a shocker to change that.

So if you’re expecting a surprise vote for Hillary, you will be disappointed, in my opinion.

Why do you think Obama will win by a landslide? McCain is very close and really shouldn’t be.

Comment by Bella | 2008-07-15 08:52:27

Oh I don’t think he will win in a landslide if we stick to our plans of voting against Obama with protest votes. I meant it as we can’t ignore the unfortuate fact that Obama is going to be the nominee and therefore also have to organize and be prepared to work against him in a McCain vs Obama GE and not continue the Hillary vs Obama into September. I know it will be hard for a lot of us to vote Mac, but I look at it as a vote against Obama and to pave the way for Hillary 2012. Once the DNC realises their chosen one is not an acceptable choice for the dem base and are defeated, I think they will curl up in the fetal position crying and leave Hillary alone all the way to her win in November 2012.

Comment by JudyA. | 2008-07-15 03:04:56

Right, but we’re talking about Dean, Peskoli, Brazille, and Obama. Don’t you know they’d use the “alternate” delegates if needed? They don’t care. Bush got away with it and we accepted it. Yeah, we can bitch and moan, and elect people who promise nothing but BS into Congress…and let them get away with it.

This is why I like PUMA/Just Say No Deal and all the other groups. People are actually doing something. It’s easier to sit back and blame the Republicans and Bush for everything (which I do, don’t get me wrong), but when it comes from your own party?!! Now I know how true Republicans felt when the NeoCons took over.

Comment by wodiej | 2008-07-15 04:40:54

Part of the problem is too many Democratic voters have been sitting on their ass and not going out to vote in past elections. I have never seen anything like what is going on this year. That being said I have never seen so many people pissed off either-I LOVE IT!! People are donating money, their time and fighting!! I seriously doubt Dean and others expected this. In fact from things they have said I think they thought when Clinton said she was supporting Obama we would all be good little girls and do the same. WRONG. I am always looking for a good cause to fight for and womens rights are a big issue to me anyway so this is just my thing!

Comment by HolyGaucamole | 2008-07-15 06:09:22

And they are afraid of you. Don’t let the media pundits with the “they’ll fall in line” mantra fool you into thinking they’re not worried. Think about it. That’s why have the Obamabutts been attacking with such ferocity lately. Why would they do that if you were just staging an insignificant, symbolic protest?

Comment by C.S. | 2008-07-15 08:18:24

When times are good people tend to not pay as much attention; when they go bad they start holding Hoover, Nixon, Reagan and George W. accountable and one way they express their displeasure is to turn out to vote. However, this year’s political action is what changes cultures.

Just as a group of colonists, FDR and JFK changed all of our lives forever so, too, has this campaign of Senator Clinton’s. Even if Obama wins we will never go back to the way we were before. If, by some chance, we lose this battle, We the People will still be fighting the War for Democracy.

As we know from the 9/11 heroics of the passengers of Flight 93, you don’t have to serve in the military to serve your country, to help preserve our Democratic way of life. We all have that responsibility every day and we may have forgotten it for just a moment; but every day, every time any of us do something to aid Senator Clinton’s candidacy, to point out Obama’s flaws, we are making our democracy a little safer, a little more secure. And we are willing to “pledge to each other our lives, our fortunes and our sacred honor” to do it. (Declaration of Independence)

Don’t you wish Obama would plagiarise these guys once in awhile.

I think this time is different. Against Bush, there should be a double digit lead and growing. Banks are failing, people are being laid-off, too many wrong things are happening. Even Pelosi is shifting on impeachment. If they feel that their jobs are being threaten, tossing Obama overboard may be considered.

I made a donation last week-this ad is PHENOMENAL!! It is exactly what needs to be seen by everyone. It amazes me how many people are completely oblivious to what happened and is still going on. Heidi is kicking ass!!

I love The Denver Group; however, I saw on one of the blogs last night that while the Denver Group is fighting for democracy at the Convention. Obama’s campaign is busy calling all of Hillary Clinton’s pledged delegates trying to deceive them into thinking they have to vote for Obama at the convention.

It never ends, the lengths Obama will go to – the delegate led the caller on and finally at the end called the campaign liars and deceivers. However, she said that this caller had been calling all of the delegates some of them older and confusing them.

Let’s call the DNC and complain (like that will do any good), or better yet notify PUMA, The Denver Group, etc. Voter fraud – chicago style.

With every passing day, I dislike Obama more and more for his tactics.

Really? That’s pretty wild. But delegates should be aware of the rules.

Surely Hillary had some communication with her delegates. I know PUMA asked me and others to e-mail Texas delegates to ask that they retain their vote for Hillary.

And after the convention, when Hillary is a memory, then what?

Comment by Newly Independent | 2008-07-15 09:38:13

“And after the convention, if Hillary is a memory, then what?”

John McCain.

Comment by Havoc | 2008-07-15 11:00:34

And he’ll then represent Hillary’s platform?

Comment by Christine | 2008-07-15 16:06:42

and Obama will?

I’m done with playing the “settling” game in hope of crumbs.

I don’t trust Barack Obama to represent my interests. At all.

First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, then you win.” Mahatma Gandhi

We’ve made it to the “fight you” stage. Once we’ve forced the Democrats in Denver to acknowledge the legitimacy of Senator Hillary Clinton’s right to be there, we win!

But to really defeat the Democratic party bureaucrats, we must also hold them accountable for lying to us about Barack Obama’s mythical lead over Senator Clinton. Then we will have won both the battle and the war. If we don’t, we’ll be doing this all over again in 2010 and 2012.

I found a great super delegate email list located on the site: walkamileinourshoes.org/sockthevote.html

I also spent the time writing a letter to send to all of them~as follows:

July 15, 2008
I wanted to take a moment to thank you for supporting Senator Clinton. It matters to so many of us, and I appreciate your strength of conviction in standing by Senator Clinton. That is some great show of character as far as I am concerned, because the political climate seems determined to make a fool of any and all of us who support and have supported Senator Clinton.
I will get to the point; I have joined PUMA and am in full support of the Denver Group. Words cannot express how upset the primary season made me, being the ugliest I have seen in my 35 years of voting (as a Democrat). I do not understand why the DNC decided to do what it did in regards to giving Senator Clintons votes to Senator Obama and the rest of that mess, however I do know underhandedness when I see it, and am not willing to support the Democratic Party any further due to those very DNC decisions made; as well as their obvious, blatant in your face attitude regarding women and our votes.
I don’t need the Democratic Party to somehow validate my importance as a voter, but I sure didn’t expect to be insulted and belittled at every moment and every turn(bible clutching, gun toting), by both Senator Obama, his “supporters”, with the DNC functioning as the long arm of his campaign.
I am an Army Mom, I am a middle aged woman of mixed background, I live in Tennessee (transplanted from San Francisco), and am finishing my college education in the next year. I am one of millions of Americans who have issues, that “matter” to them and are at stake in this election. Yet, what I heard from the DNC, is my vote wasn’t needed, according to Senator Obama and his supporters, I need to “get over”, any feelings I may have about the primaries. That is like asking me to frequent a store, where the staff follows me around, threatening me, telling me what I can and can’t buy, and expecting me to be happy and grateful for it.
No, I won’t vote party, I will vote against every Democrat who supported Senator Obama without fail, because in that support there really was a failure to be fair. I expect campaigns to compete, but never thought I would see the day where open race baiting and racism was encouraged as well as the constant sexist, violent overtones from the media, with not a whisper (unlike the outcry regarding the cover of The New Yorker), not a sound from Senator Obama, his supporters and the DNC. Rather we had to listen to Donna Brazille, all but calling Senator Clinton a liar, and making an ass of herself and all Democrats when she chose to do so, during the televised primary committee hearings. I guess now the rules are allowed to change daily, new headquarters, new venue for the convention, which may be within the rights of the presumptive nominee, but how were they won? Or were they given, or expected by a not so subtle undercurrent of entitlement? Unfair, racist, sexist, that’s the Democratic Party I know today.
I will be voting for Senator McCain, and all down ticket republicans against democrats, who felt it was fine to use Senator Clinton as a whipping post. I get the idea of a “new guard”, but really, shouldn’t Senator Obama and his ilk have waited for the baton to be passed instead of “crossing lanes”, to grab it away, with no sense of fair play, no gratitude, no dignity and not an ounce of respect.
Sincerely,

Just watch. Cynthia McKinney has accepted the Green party nomination and all of Barry’s disillusioned ex-supporters will find a new home there.
The Hip Hop blog is all ablaze with the news, they call Barry a house ni**a.
