Obama Has Purged His Own Web Site of Iraq Criticisms
By SusanUnPC on July 15, 2008 at 9:28 AM in Barack Obama, Current Affairs, Flip Flopping, Iraq, John McCain
UPDATE — Via Memeorandum.com, Ed Morrissey sums it up well:
Barack Obama has purged his website of criticism of the surge, and has now credited American troops with the security gains of the last year. The move comes as John McCain repeatedly points out that Obama opposed the surge in January 2007 and said it would make the situation worse:
New York Daily News:
“Barack Obama purges Web site critique of surge in Iraq“
WASHINGTON - Barack Obama’s campaign scrubbed his presidential Web site over the weekend to remove criticism of the U.S. troop “surge” in Iraq, the Daily News has learned.
The presumed Democratic nominee replaced his Iraq issue Web page, which had described the surge as a “problem” that had barely reduced violence.
“The surge is not working,” Obama’s old plan stated, citing a lack of Iraqi political cooperation but crediting Sunni sheiks - not U.S. military muscle - for quelling violence in Anbar Province.
This is from Obama’s site before it was purged:
More from “Barack Obama purges Web site critique of surge in Iraq“:
The News reported Sunday that insurgent attacks have fallen to the fewest since March 2004.
Obama’s campaign posted a new Iraq plan Sunday night, which cites an “improved security situation” paid for with the blood of U.S. troops since the surge began in February 2007.
It praises G.I.s’ “hard work, improved counterinsurgency tactics and enormous sacrifice.”

ARLINGTON, VA — Today, the New York Daily News reported that Barack Obama has begun to “refine” his Iraq position by removing from his website the statements that he would “immediately begin to remove our troops from Iraq” and the Surge is “The Problem” in Iraq:
Barack Obama “Refining” His Position On Withdrawal…
New Obama Website: “The Removal Of Our Troops Will Be Responsible And Phased” And Would Be Done In 16 Months. “The removal of our troops will be responsible and phased, directed by military commanders on the ground and done in consultation with the Iraqi government. Military experts believe we can safely redeploy combat brigades from Iraq at a pace of 1 to 2 brigades a month that would remove them in 16 months. That would be the summer of 2010 more than 7 years after the war began.” (Obama For America Website, http://www.barackobama.com/issues/iraq/, Accessed 7/15/08)
Vs.
Old Obama Website: “Obama Will Immediately Begin To Remove Our Troops From Iraq.” “Obama will immediately begin to remove our troops from Iraq. He will remove one to two combat brigades each month, and have all of our combat brigades out of Iraq within 16 months.” (Obama For America Website, Accessed 7/3/08)

Barack Obama “Refining” His Position On The Surge…
This Weekend, The Obama Campaign Removed All Criticism Of The Troop Surge From His Website. “Barack Obama’s campaign scrubbed his presidential Web site over the weekend to remove criticism of the U.S. troop ’surge’ in Iraq, the Daily News has learned. The presumed Democratic nominee replaced his Iraq issue Web page, which had described the surge as a ‘problem’ that had barely reduced violence. ‘The surge is not working,’ Obama’s old plan stated, citing a lack of Iraqi political cooperation but crediting Sunni sheiks — not U.S. military muscle — for quelling violence in Anbar Province.” (James Gordon Meek, “Barack Obama Purges Web Site Critique Of Surge In Iraq,” New York Daily News, 7/14/08)
· The New Website Cites An “Improved Security Situation.” “Obama’s campaign posted a new Iraq plan Sunday night, which cites an ‘improved security situation’ paid for with the blood of U.S. troops since the surge began in February 2007. It praises G.I.s’ ‘hard work, improved counterinsurgency tactics and enormous sacrifice.’” (James Gordon Meek, “Barack Obama Purges Web Site Critique Of Surge In Iraq,” New York Daily News, 7/14/08)
New Obama Website: Problem Is “Inadequate Security And Political Progress In Iraq.” “Inadequate Security and Political Progress in Iraq: Since the surge began, more than 1,000 American troops have died, and despite the improved security situation, the Iraqi government has not stepped forward to lead the Iraqi people and to reach the genuine political accommodation that was the stated purpose of the surge. Our troops have heroically helped reduce civilian casualties in Iraq to early 2006 levels. This is a testament to our military’s hard work, improved counterinsurgency tactics, and enormous sacrifice by our troops and military families. It is also a consequence of the decision of many Sunnis to turn against al Qaeda in Iraq, and a lull in Shia militia activity. But the absence of genuine political accommodation in Iraq is a direct result of President Bush’s failure to hold the Iraqi government accountable.” (Obama Fo r America Website, http://www.barackobama.com/issues/iraq/, Accessed 7/15/08)
Vs.
Old Obama Website: The Surge Is Part Of “The Problem.” “The Problem — The Surge: The goal of the surge was to create space for Iraq’s political leaders to reach an agreement to end Iraq’s civil war. At great cost, our troops have helped reduce violence in some areas of Iraq, but even those reductions do not get us below the unsustainable levels of violence of mid-2006. Moreover, Iraq’s political leaders have made no progress in resolving the political differences at the heart of their civil war.” (Obama For America Website, Accessed 7/3/08)

Re-writing stuff of the past is BO’s specialty. He can run, but he can’t hide….the chickens will come home to roost.
While they’re in the process of re-writing history may I suggest that Obama make a new video of him standing and clapping the surge at the State of The Union.
Maybe he could stage the event at congress and have some of his wussie emasculated Super delegates in the video as a backdrop.
vinnie — seems Obama is pretty good at hiding. He’s afraid of joining McCain for Town Hall Meetings. He’s afraid to be on the same stage with Hillary if her name gets put into nomination. He’s afraid to allow any criticism of him because he’s afraid to look foolish.
he’s afraid to look foolish.
He can’t help it… he was born with a crap cannon that doesn’t quit.
All the AstroTurf in the world cannot erase the essential problem BHO has.
No amount of scrubbing will get the out the stains of lies and twisted rhetoric.
Look BHO, you yourself said you were not qualified to be POTUS. So foolish is what you started with. Now look where you are.
Well it looks like Obama is the “new decider”. I don’t think it matters anyways his poll numbers are really starting to drop and his negatives are reaching into the mid-40’s. Americans can see now a candidate that uses poor judgement, has no experience, and doesn’t seem to have a “solid core” set of principles. Obama’s “solid” core seems to be made out of some type of “jello”…………sad. I still don’t know who this guy is, Obama. I know he’s a product of the “Axis of intolerant liberal mis-informtion”. Our mostly liberal MSM wolfpackp press………elite liberal Hollywood (Oprah and others), and our liberal professors and their contaminated students, our children…………….. The GOD like image of Obama is fading and McCain should win with over 300+ electoral votes on the night of November 4th……………epecially if he picks Mitt Romney as his veep……………..goodbye Obama!
OMG, I *hope* McCain picks Mittwit!!!
I feel so sorry for that Mormon who was just ex-communicated because he made the calendar with shirtless male missionaries.
Mittwit, to prove he was “normal” and not a loony cult member who wears the GARMENT Mormons are supposed to wear 24-7, posed SHIRTLESS on the beach with his wife during the race for governor of Massachusetts.
So, why wasn’t he ex-communicated? Because he’s one of the INNER CIRCLE who are ALLOWED to break the “rules” in order to further Mormon causes amongst the regular population.
If only Mittwit were back in the public eye, we could have SO much fun with that!!
Yes, such vital information would be great fodder at the next meeting of the Who Gives A Crap About This club, of which you are clearly a charter member.
I had to laugh at the idea of a shirtless missionary calendar. They come to my house a lot and so far they have all been skinny little white boys of about 19 years of age. Hot? I think not.
here who he is!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lCN1g4X7lDg
I think there will be more of this as he keeps backtracking.
If you go to Internet Archive, you will notice, Barack’s website has not been indexed there since August 2007. That is on purpose, they’ve set something to stop that from happening.
Someone who has time and can set up a way to do it, I would advise saving a copy of his major policy pages every day. Create an archive.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. Why is that only crooks and politicians can’t understand there are no secrets anymore? Someone somewhere is taping, recording, listening and taking pictures.
You can’t say one thiing one day and the next say you didn’t. In obama’s case he is both a crook and a pol.
Obama supporters trashed the unelected, automatic and unpledged delegates as undemocratic autocrats when it looked as though they might put Clinton over the top. Not anymore.
With the dust settled on the primary season, one thing is clear: Obama is the presumed nominee thanks only to superdelegates. He never did win enough pledged delegates to reach the winning number, falling about 350 votes short. His expected victory stems from beating Clinton among superdelegates 463-257, according to a tally on Real Clear Politics.
All the more reason for Obama to make sure that there is no roll call including Clinton’s name on the ballot at the national convention — which a few die hard fans of the former First Lady are still clamoring for.
Why highlight just how close the Democratic contest really was? And there is certainly no gain for Obama in dwelling on how he had to depend on superdelegates to win the nomination
http://blogs.cqpolitics.com/trailmix/2008/07/dem-superdelegates-rule-after.html
Thanks for posting this. The distinction between SD’s and pledged delegates and how the nominating process works cannot be emphasized and repeated enough.

What they going to do if Hillary gets the nomination in Denver? The Obambies can not fight democratically, they are fascist and cult like thugs who will force their will on people who don’t want Obambi in the WH. But, people will prevail and these paper tigers will go to their holes when MacCain wins the election on Nov.
Mine was one they got , we moved here…

I posted this elsewhere:
“Does it matter? So far, Obama has changed positions several times on significant issues, yet the MSM is leaving him alone and not holding him accountable. The super delegates have not spoken a word about this. Aside from the PUMA affiliations, no one seems to care. So I say, ‘It’s interesting that he purged his site. Who is going to make it relevant?’ It doesn’t matter.”
Obama can say or do whatever he wants. Unless it’s proven that he’s not an American citizen, he will be the nominee. And so far, he’s not produced the appropriate birth certificate, and no one is insisting that he do that. So it is what it is, like it or not.
the Republican fun is just beginning….that is the difference. Obama may very well be the nominee but his chances of being President or slim to none.
wodiej — McCain is looking like the cat that swallowed the cream. The Repubs have so much on Obama they have to decide what to hit him with first. That is after the Summer when people are tuned in. However, everyone I talk to is tuned in now and they are terrified of Obama. So even the whispers of scandal are drawing interest.
The republicans are going to create a new majority in the center. The cornerstone will be country over party. Patriotism and pride will be back in style and the defeat of the Anti-American leftist demokrats will be something to be relished.
At the height of the Republican Convention
McCain will be hailed as the Leader who won the Iraq War for America.
McCain remained steadfast against universal opposition and put America before his political career to do what was right.
McCain’s policy has prevented the United States from being beaten and defeated for all time.
We didn’t retreat or defeat like Obama wanted which would have caused utter chaos and genocide on the Iraqi people. The world would have saw images of America cutting and running in total humiliation.
Our interests would have been weakened considerably and the Iranians would gained power and hegemony in the region.
The republicans will run images of Obama wishing for defeat and retreat.
The video from the state of the union address clearly shows that when Bush announced the success of the surge Obama failed to stand and clap for our troops and their success.
How shameful of Obama to wish defeat!!!
Hillary got up and clapped like a real American who cares about our country.
The republicans will run images of Obama wishing for defeat and retreat.
The video from the state of the union address clearly shows that when Bush announced the success of the surge Obama failed to stand and clap for our troops and their success.
How stupid is the Odrama campaign - do they think that videos and sound bites of Brock’s initial Iraq position aren’t out there? If noone else does, the Daily Kooks will remind him of it. I’ve compared this campaign to a slo-mo train wreck: well this is the part where the train laboriously keels over and falls off the tracks.
If Obama airbrushed his website and the media didn’t report on it, did it actually happen?
Whose freedom are you fighting for?
He’s got his Bushisms down pat, hasn’t he?
If truth was a dog named Darma, would it bark?
Damn you wussy mofo. ‘It is what it is’. I suppose if someone comes and knocks you in the head the first thing out of your mouth is ‘it is what it is’. Wussified.
The thinks they control what ‘news’ is. They are losing that grip only because we are still defining what appears on the MSM as the arbiter of reality. PUMA is a reality. Withholding funds to the DNC is a reality. The rubber meets the road when the DNC comes out of their kool-aid stupor and find Hillary’s debt paid off yet Hobama can’t get a dime from these same folks. Chickens - roost.
Meantime, airheads like yourself will continue to get punched in the head and your wussified self saying ‘it is what it is’. Fuck you!
deep truths — Millions of Democrats have switched parties and that is a truth which the Democratic Party will also have to consider. Wonder what their 08 Platform is going to be? That is now that the Democrats have become defacto Republicans to please Obama.
Contrary to what you might think, I’m not an airhead. I’m a discouraged Clinton supporter. I’ve donated to help reduce her debt. I have yet to hear how much progress we made with the last big push.
There’s a difference, whether you agree or not, between what we read on the internet and what we see/hear in the MSM…like NBC, MSNBC, CNN, and so on. There’s a BIG difference. The convention (curiously controlled by Obama) is not too far away. And unless something “big” happens soon, I’m sorry to say that it is what it is.
We have been symbolically knocked in the head by the DNC and the Obama campaign. Yes, PUMA is fighting back and I fully support that. But the reality is that unless there is a BIG issue that the MSM latches on to and the DNC acknowledges and does something about, I don’t see there being a difference in the outcome.
It’s interesting that Obama’s arrogance and his middle finger on his cheek seem remarkably like your comment to me.
By the way, if you really want to communicate effectively, you might want to proofread before you hit the “Add comment” button.
You got the message and you’re still a wuss. You remind of a English chap worrying about diction while still getting beat in the head. Which is more important? Trying to defend yourself, which is what PUMA is doing, or worrying about whether your diction or sentence structure were correct.
All talk, no action makes for defeatist elitist.
PuppyDogMom - you are right to be discouraged. Our government has been run by those with destructive agendas, our mainstream media has been run by those with destructive agendas, and now our Democratic Party is being run by those with destructive agendas. It is right to oppose these destructive forces but putting things back to rights could take a long time. In the meantime, the Republican Party is going to be rewarded despite their years of supply side insanity, all because of the willfulness of the DNC.
“I will never give up and I will never give in”
While it’s not surprising, this is just another “about-face” by the “O”! If he wishes to refine anything, it should be his manners! So, on Iraq, it’s back to troops on the ground and blame the incompetents in the Iraqi government…isn’t that novel! We have heard this far too long! I’m not buying it!
sassy — the memm on Obama is that he is a chicken chit who is terrified of everybody he thinks is more qualified then he is to be President. So he runs away and makes excuses to delude himself and us into believing that he is a strong candidate.
that is why Obama has refused all town hall meeting with John McCain, he is afraid….
http://nativeamericansagainstobama.wordpress.com/
which would be pretty much everybody.
Obama didn’t have the judgement when it counted. It’s McCain idea for the surge, It’s McCain’s judgement that is saving lives. Obama was against the McCain plan, Obama is a pretender and a phony but worst is that he was hoping the surge would fail and more soldiers would die for political advantage. This is proof that he doesn’t have the judgement to be senator even less president.
Dan..
I’m on the same page as you!
Now what needs to be scrutinized is Obama’s latest plan for Iraq.
Obama now says the surge is working but still would draw down troops and send them to Afganistan which history has shown is a bottomless pit quagmire.
We need to redouble our efforts in Iraq and make them a strong Democracy allied with the West and the United States.
Why does Obama hate victory in Iraq?
seattle moss — Hi Obama tries to grab any advantage he can and will turn on a dime for a vote or a check. No wonder he’s so tired — its hard to know what to think depending on your audience. At least the charcoal gray suits stay the same–so he doesn’t have to think about what to wear.
I am sort of confused by Obama’s logic. He wants to pull out of Iraq because he says we are losing there. But he wants to send more troops to Afghanistan because we are losing there.
He could have helped in Afghanistan has he actually demonstrated his LEADERSHIP and held one single meeting of the sub committee he chaired that related to NATO efforts in Afghanistan.
But he was busy practicing his melodious baritone in front of a mirror. Chairing a committee is HARD WORK! That isn’t what he’s about.
On Meet the press Biden made excuses for BO, saying that he, Biden, held those meetings.
During the debates…

For one of the best comments on Obama’s astonishing hypocrisy on the war, as he now seeks to re-write history (including his own history of positions and statements):
http://www.powerlineblog.com/archives2/2008/07/020997.php
Obama’s dishonest op-ed.
Obama’s contortions brings to mind Churchill’s criticism of the sitting government in Britain in 1936:
“[The Governemnt] go on in strange paradox, decided only to be undecided, resolved to be irresolute, adamant for drift, solid for fluidity, all-powerful to be impotent”
Wow. Respond to this, obama trolls, if you dare. What a scathing indicment - in Obama’s own words:
Obama’s Dishonest Op-Ed
In this morning’s New York Times, Barack Obama published an op-ed on Iraq that presumably previews his “major speech” on the subject tomorrow. Even by Obama’s standards, the piece is breathtakingly dishonest.
Obama admits that he opposed the surge, and the attendant change in strategy and tactics, that have brought us close to victory. But he somehow manages to twist his being wrong about the surge–the major foreign policy issue that has arisen during his time in Congress–into vindication:
But the same factors that led me to oppose the surge still hold true. The strain on our military has grown, the situation in Afghanistan has deteriorated and we’ve spent nearly $200 billion more in Iraq than we had budgeted. Iraq’s leaders have failed to invest tens of billions of dollars in oil revenues in rebuilding their own country, and they have not reached the political accommodation that was the stated purpose of the surge.
Actually, however, Obama opposed the surge not because of those “factors” but because he thought it would fail. He said, on January 10, 2007, on MSNBC:
I am not persuaded that 20,000 additional troops in Iraq is going to solve the sectarian violence there. In fact, I think it will do the reverse.
On January 14, 2007, on Face the Nation, he said:
We cannot impose a military solution on what has effectively become a civil war. And until we acknowledge that reality — we can send 15,000 more troops, 20,000 more troops, 30,000 more troops, I don’t know any expert on the region or any military officer that I’ve spoken to privately that believes that that is going to make a substantial difference on the situation on the ground.
On March 19, 2007, on the Larry King show, he said:
[E]ven those who are supporting — but here’s the thing, Larry — even those who support the escalation have acknowledged that 20,000, 30,000, even 40,000 more troops placed temporarily in places like Baghdad are not going to make a long-term difference.
On May 25, 2007, in a speech to the Coalition Of Black Trade Unionists Convention, Obama said:
And what I know is that what our troops deserve is not just rhetoric, they deserve a new plan. Governor Romney and Senator McCain clearly believe that the course that we’re on in Iraq is working, I do not.
On July 18, 2007, on the Today show, he said:
My assessment is that the surge has not worked and we will not see a different report eight weeks from now.
On November 11, 2007, two months after General David Petraeus told Congress that the surge was working, Obama doubled down, saying that the administration’s new strategy was making the situation in Iraq worse:
Finally, in 2006-2007, we started to see that, even after an election, George Bush continued to want to pursue a course that didn’t withdraw troops from Iraq but actually doubled them and initiated a surge and at that stage I said very clearly, not only have we not seen improvements, but we’re actually worsening, potentially, a situation there.
In short, Obama bet the farm on his prediction that General Petraeus and the American military would fail. He was as spectacularly wrong as John McCain was spectacularly right. But his op-ed somehow twists this history into vindication on the theory that Afghanistan has deteriorated, the Iraq war has been expensive, and Iraq’s political leaders “have not reached the political accommodation that was the stated purpose of the surge.”
Let’s start with the last point. Obama completely fails to acknowledge the remarkable political progress that has resulted from the surge, as manifested by the fact that the country’s largest Sunni bloc has rejoined the government, and the U.S. Embassy reports that 15 of the 18 benchmarks of political progress that were set by Congress are now being met. Those benchmarks were set precisely for the purpose of measuring the “political accommodation that was the stated purpose of the surge,” yet Obama fails even to mention them.
Still more dishonest is Obama’s failure to acknowledge what would have happened if his policy prescription, precipitate withdrawal regardless of military conditions, had been followed: chaos, sectarian violence, possibly genocide, a resurgent al Qaeda in control of part of Iraq, with Iran possibly in control of other areas of the country. This would have been a foreign policy disaster, yet Obama, with vague references to cost and Afghanistan, claims vindication!
As to al Qaeda–the elephant in the room–Obama simply dissimulates:
Iraq is not the central front in the war on terrorism, and it never has been.
That’s not what Osama bin Laden (Iraq is where the “Third World War is raging”) or Ayman al-Zawahiri (Iraq is “the place for the greatest battle of Islam in this era”) say. Al Qaeda summoned jihadists from around the Muslim world to go to Iraq to fight American troops, declaring that this effort is the central front in their war against civilization. Those jihadists have been devastated by American armed forces, who have thereby scored what may, with hindsight, turn out to have been the decisive victory in the war against Muslim extremism. Obama denies all of this in a single sentence, without citing any evidence whatsoever.
Finally, Afghanistan: Obama would have us believe that he urged defeat in Iraq because he was so firmly committed to victory in Afghanistan. Once again, he misrepresents the record.
In fact, Obama has never supported our troops in Afghanistan. On the contrary, he said on August 14, 2007–less than a year ago–that our forces there are mostly committing war crimes:
We’ve got to get the job done there and that requires us to have enough troops so that we’re not just air-raiding villages and killing civilians, which is causing enormous pressure over there.
Obama has been so uninterested in Afghanistan that when he went to Iraq and other countries in the Middle East with a Congressional delegation in January 2006, he skipped the opportunity to continue on to Afghanistan, which was taken by others who made the trip with him, including Kit Bond and Harold Ford. And, in an embarrassing gaffe, Obama claimed on May 13, 2008, that we don’t have enough “Arabic interpreters, Arab language speakers” in Afghanistan because they are all being used in Iraq. Obama thereby demonstrated the intellectual laziness and incuriosity that characterizes his campaign: they don’t speak Arabic in Afghanistan, and, anyway, interpreters are drawn from local populations, not shipped around the world.
Worst of all, far from being committed to victory in Afghanistan, Obama voted to cut off all funding for all of our military efforts in Afghanistan on May 24, 2007 (H.R. 2206, CQ Vote #181), thereby seeking to bring about defeat there as well as in Iraq. His current effort to portray himself as a wolf in sheep’s clothing on Afghanistan is a complete fraud.
It is possible that at some point in American history there may have been a major politician as dishonest as Barack Obama, but I can’t offhand think of such a miscreant.
He can binge & purge all he wants. We still have this:

Straight from the jackass’s mouth is even better!
Messge to Obama campaing:
The purge is not working.
ha! Obama was against the purge before he was for it.
You two are cracking me up!
Oo! Good one!
Ah, those scamps at the Obama Ministry of Truth have been at it again: “Oceana is at war with Eurasia, Oceana has always been at war with Eurasia.” Orwell would have been proud.
This is going beyond anything we have ever seen by any candidate,in any party. The tooth fairy has more credibility than this liar.
For starters, he hails the success of the surge without admitting that he made the wrong call when it was proposed:
In the 18 months since President Bush announced the surge, our troops have performed heroically in bringing down the level of violence. New tactics have protected the Iraqi population, and the Sunni tribes have rejected Al Qaeda — greatly weakening its effectiveness.
In January 2007, when it counted, Obama demonstrated his incompetence on military matters. Later, his campaign tried lying about what Obama said to cover it up:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l4vlBgh7KLg
“We can send 15,000 more troops, 20,000 more troops, 30,000 more troops: I don’t know any expert on the region or any military officer that I’ve spoken to privately that believes that that is going to make a substantial difference on the situation on the ground.”
Obama continues:
Only by redeploying our troops can we press the Iraqis to reach comprehensive political accommodation and achieve a successful transition to Iraqis’ taking responsibility for the security and stability of their country.
This is poppycock. Iraq would not be in any position to reach any kind of political accommodation now if we hadn’t remained in Iraq the last two years. The reason Iraq has a shot at this now is because it has a viable army able to impose the will of the central government in areas previously held by militias — and that still relies on American logistical and tactical support, especially air power. Obama notes that General James Dubik says that the army and police will be ready to stand on their own by 2009, but he forgets to mention that the same assessment shows their air force and navy to be years away from viability.
Does Commander Obama know how critical air power has been to Iraqi efforts in Basra, Mosul, and Amarah? Or how badly the Iraqis will need air competence for its national security?
We can safely redeploy our combat brigades at a pace that would remove them in 16 months.
Only if we leave our equipment behind. Our combat divisions can’t function properly without their heavy equipment. Obama complains that the military is overstretched, but disarming them and confining them to American bases won’t make us more combat-ready; it will make us less so.

Harp, I hate to disagree because I agree with most of what you and Seattle say. I joined justsaynodeal yesterday and I am ready to vote for McCain in November, unless the miracle happens, but I am skeptical about Iraq. Agree absolutely Obama is not committed to any plan for Iraq and goes where the wind blows him, but I am a cynical, horrible person for believing Hermann Goering. “If you tell a big enough lie and tell it often enough, people will believe.” I’ve seen the pictures and heard the tale about Iraq being transformed, but I also remember seeing pictures of cement walls in barrios in Baghdad, people having to go through five or six checkpoints to leave their neighborhoods and hearing the Sunnis are cooperating is not too impressive if you consider they have received military equipment and money from the US. I pray you are right and this situation is finally under control, but this is an election year full of lies and distortion. I have never believed Obama intended to draw down the troops from Iraq any more than I believe, for an instant, he intends to create a new health care system in this country. He misquoted Nuri al Maliki and the press, of course, said it wasn’t his fault as they always do. And rather than talk to the Pentagon, he ran with the story and his new op-ed is the forth in the last two weeks. I doubt he is fully cleared for daily briefings, but he could talk to someone objective there and maybe learn the truth. If the pentagon didn’t know Maliki was misquoted, we are in a hole we’ll never dig out of anyway. I’ll vote for McCain for reasons having nothing to do with his policies and I’ve made that decision and I’m at peace with it, but I will not be deluded. As a person, he is probably better than most in our government and he is more trustworthy than Obama, but he doesn’t represent my view any more than Obama. We need to be out of Iraq now. I have heard George Bush, Dick Cheney and others say too many times, we have turned the corner and the insurgency in in it’s last throes. There are ways, I’m sure, to enlist help from the UN and neighboring countries to try to insure the safety of civilians although it’s doubtful that will be completely successful. This is a Civil War and has it’s roots in generations of religious and ethnic differences and no surge the US can do will make a difference. When we pull our troops out, it will begin in Earnest whether it is next year or fifty or a hundred years from now. Saddam was able to keep it at bay by brute force, but we have “set loose the dogs of war” and we can’t fix it. Both candidates are using this as a political issue. The major difference being at least McCain is consistent while Obama is swimming around in a fog trying to remake his policy everyday depending on which way the wind is blowing.

Graham is 100% correct: Obama has no shame, and just as with his totally false backstory, is attempting to say whatever he thinks suits the political winds when he says it.
The entire thrust of his ‘judgment’ against Hillary was Iraq. He was and is wrong, and screwed up the vote on General Casey to boot.
Obama is the most brazen liar I have ever seen, not an easy feat to accomplish as a politician. And he feels comfortable lying as much and as outrageously as he does because he knows the white guilt chumps in the MSM and the kinds that he gerrymandered his Chicago district to include will excuse ALL of his crap so that they can have, as Thomas Sowell explains it, their ‘mascot politics.’
Someone noted this above — the MSM isn’t going to report any of this. It is up to us, the ‘net and the GOP to hammer BaCaca on these issues, document all of his flip flops and get every last screen shot. His site has to be monitored for more of just this same thing.
This guy is a complete, utter farce. I have no idea why anyone takes him seriously. He is nothing but a punk hustler who is doing the same thing for many Bill Ayers types that he claimed Sidney Poitier did for his mom. It is a disgrace that he uses people like this, and that people allow and WELCOME being used this way.
We are better than this, and we will defeat this huckster.
There is actually a poll out today saying that 77% of people think BaJoke is a better kisser than McCain. I’m not making that up, and, surprise surprise, it was reported in an item buy like CNN business.com or something.
Take a good look in the mirror, America. And then watch Elmer Gantry Obama because he’s trying to steal your election like a traveling preacher pilfering people’s money.
To feel shame, you need a conscience. bama is an empty shell. A sociopath.
Paul. Why in God’s name would any sane person ask a question like that in a poll? This is the putrid, rotting corpse the press has become and when I see this utter stupidity,it makes me believe we have gone too far down this path of distruction to ever go back.
So Obama wants to meet the troops. As Lindsay says Obama will tell them great work, but it doesn’t count for squat.
When I hear “purge” and “surge,” I just think of that vibrating cellphone.
“It’s not the surge I knew”

Obama represents hope and change for the past.
We were the one’s we were waiting for.
but then nothing happened….and the Kool Aid dried up….
We were the one we waited for but didn’t show up because we lost our way.
Obama wished for Defeat and Retreat in Iraq.
His whole campaign was predicated on misery and humiliation of the United States.
McCain is the hero who saved Iraq for America!
At the Republican convention McCain will be hoisted up as the Man who cared about country before party and remained steadfast to all opposition and insured victory and democracy for the Iraqi’s.
Obama just sat on his hands at the state of the union wishing and hoping for defeat so that he could win the presidency.
Not my kind of guy!
Cripes, what will it take for these supporters, DNC, superdelegates to WAKE UP?? Are they so obsessed w a black man winning and so against the Clintons that they will flush it all right down the sewer? What a bunch of absolute MORONS. I look forward to watching them suffer.
Have you all noticed…Obama is doing the same thing w McCain as he did w Hillary. Her positions became his. Now McCain’s positions become his.
Horrors and shades of New Yorker covers! You made me think of a desperate hope and change candidate outfitting himself in Hillary’s wardrobe.
LOL
Of course he is. He started with imitating Bush - getting annoited instead of elected. I bet he even tried getting into show business first, so he could be an actor, then president - like Reagan (his hero).
No matter what Obama says or does. He is playing in the big man’s backyard and he comes across as a kid trying to play dress up. The stress of knowing he’s just not up to the job and that everyone else is better equipped than he is — is starting to show.
OBAMA IS NOT ONLY AN EMPTY SUIT, BARACK OBAMA IS A BLACK HOLE…
THERE’S NOTHING THERE. HE WOULD SAY ANYTHING TO FITS THE MOMENT…..
JUST WAIT TILL YOU HEAR HIM FILP AND FLOP AS HE TOURS THE MIDDLE EAST FROM ONE CAPITAL CITY TO ANOTHER……
Remember when Nancy, Dean & Co said they were going to put an end to the primary because they didn’t want a divided convention, well here is the perfect time to do that…. Let the SD step in and put and an end this Obrama…… How did we end up with the stupidest party leaders in histroy? What’s going to take to have someone one with balls stops this nigthmare…..?
The only people with the balls to stop this nightmare are people like you and me and the rest of the american voters who in november will just say NO to BHO.
I can picture him in Baghdad, yelling, Hello Jerusalem!
Maybe Obama’s critics haven’t been listening. Senator Obama was supportive of the surge all along.

By the way, notice how no one shows an entire McCain speech?
I`m afraid they would put everyone to sleep.
The media only makes it worst for King Liar because they enable him by not reporting the truth. In the age of youtube and countless articles on the internet, his belief that the MSM controls reality is what is his downfall.
The MSM tied themselves to his sinking ship and its taking on water. They are waist-deep and pretend that nothing’s amiss.

you can’t make this shit up…

Poor Obama
The survival of the Western Civilized world depends on the US success in Iraq. hardly a distraction!
McCain has shown the superior judgment to win the Iraq war for America when everyone was fatigued and was prepared to cut and run.
I’m glad that we’re in Iraq and now have two countries Israel and Iraq who are uniquely allied with the United States in a region where World Resource Wars can take place.
Our position in Iraq keeps a check on Iranian Hegemony.
Our position in Iraq protects the Gulf States for free flow of oil to the Western World.
Our position in Iraq is leading to a free and democratic Iraq which is pro America.
Our position in Iraq prevents outside interference from countries such as Russia and China.
Our position in Iraq is destroying Alqueda ability to take control of a sovereign country
Our position in Iraq shows other dictatorships that America has balls and will protect the western worlds vital interests.
Thank you John McCain for showing us Leadership and not listening to opinion polls.
Everything he can’t explain or doesnt want to face up to is a distraction
Barack Distraction Obama - Working hard every day to take the focus off the real issues that we face.
Iraq is a distraction! Hillary is a distraction, the Denver Convention is a distraction! As a matter of fact, this whole democratic process has become a distraction! For the sake of national unity it is time for Barack to declare himself President of the United States of America and end this madness once and for all!
I used to think Obama had a better chance of winning the GE because Clinton had high negatives. Unfortunately, as we get to see more and more of Obama, there is less and less to like.
If you compared to Obama to all the past candidates who have lost like McGovern, Carter, Mondale, Dukakis, Gore, Kerry, etc.. Obama worse and less qualified than any of them. Looks like I was wrong about supporting Obama, and it really opened my eyes regarding media bias. The real Obama is the exact opposite of the media version of Obama.
Does anyone know what would happen if not enough superdelegates voted for Obama to get the nomination at the roll call - even if Clinton were not put on the ballot or give the opportunity for the SD to vote for her? I am hoping there will be enough SDs to revolt against the takeover of this convention by the Obama campaign. Do you think her Delegates will walk out - and does anyone know on what day they do the roll call? This info used to be posted on the Convention Site, but all that info has now been replaced by a site that pretty much features Obama. I know this is a late posting but I will check back to see if someone responds. Thanks.

How are the anti-war one-noters on kos taking this? Supposedly the liberal blogoshere rejected Hillary because she “voted for the war.”
I made the mistake of looking on one of the liberal boyz blogs today. They are rationalizing Obama’s “distraction” meme.
I think they are too busy screeching about the New Yorker cover to have noticed Obama slipped them under the bus, too.
Obambi is the most corrupt flip flopper ever in history that I know of, what arrogance, what a total flake.
Any ObambiBot that backs this guy is disillusion or just does not care that this guy is so flawed, unbelievable. SHAME SHAME SHAME
Just ask yourself Obamagroupies, how much are you willing to sacrifice to be able to say President Obama?
Where do you draw the line and say, wait one god damn minute this is too much, the lack of integrity, honesty, and experiennce is more than I can accept.
Haven’t reached that point yet? Don’t worry its still 3.5 months before the General Election.
But Think long and hard…is this REALLY the Barack Obama you though you knew?????
McCain to speak on Iraq in a few minutes ( CNN, geesh ), I hope he rips Obambi a new azzhole for Obambi’s flip flop website scrubbing.
What’s sad is that I’m a Democrat but I want McCain to pummel Obambi, yes that’s how bad Obambi is.
Dave_Not_For_Obama I too am or was a Democrat and I want to see McCain pummel Obama. Its about Democracy and putting the best man in the toughest job.
And should not this speech have been delivered AFTER he went to Iraq? I know he has not talked to the central policy wonks in Iraq, who work in the embassy, because I know one of them.
This is nothing but political gaming. Who knows what he’ll really do.
Obama’s PRAYING something happens so he doesn’t have to go to IRAQ. He’s a scared baby.
katmandu — Obama is desperate. His numbers are down and people are beginning to wonder who in the hell this guy is. So he makes another speech–high on principle and short or substance to buy yet another positive news cycle. However, the American people are sick of looking at Obama’s face and listening to the phoney deep voice coming from what looks like a street kid. No matter how much the media promotes him–people can only take so much of this. If as Newton Minnow said in the early days of TV — The Media Is The Message then people are tuning Obama out–they got the message. His sizzle has begun to fizzle.
However, the American people are sick of looking at Obama’s face and listening to the phoney deep voice coming from what looks like a street kid.
You are so right, I too have lost all respect for Obambi as a person and as a Democrat, as such I’m REALLY turned off HUGE when I see him speak.
He reminds me of the habitual liar we all knew in grade school. Except Obambi also pizzes me off because he lies and then thinks the rest of the population is too stupid to see it for what it is, it’s very arrogant and condescending. The kicker is he does it with a straight face, which makes me wonder if he has a deep seated physiological problem, I mean that!!
It’s called nacissistic personality disorder
pathological liar
Pathological liar
A pathological liar is someone who often embellishes his or her stories in a way that he or she believes will impress people. It may be that a pathological liar is different from a normal liar in that a pathological liar believes the lie he or she is telling to be true—at least in public—and is “playing” the role. It could also be that pathological liars know precisely what they are doing. “Pathological liar” is a synonym for symptoms. Even though pathological lying is not recognized as a clinical disorder, legal court cases often require that the plaintiff prove that the defendant is aware that he or she is lying.[dubious – discuss] This proof is most important in cases of slander and/or liability.[clarify] Pathological liars often actually convince themselves that they are telling the truth, which in turn can alter polygraph tests and other questioning.[citation needed] When caught in a lie, pathological liars tend to become hostile or try to disregard the fact they lied; often playing it off as a joke
That’s what he said he would do. go there and asses and then have a plan. He wouldn’t lie, would he?
I meant asess, not asses
http://ap.google.com/article/ALeqM5gXhIn6Dsn59np7LYG6eYS5GubXUAD91UBTK80
The AP coverage of his speech, which goes to every corner of America, noted:
It’s called winning a war, not “improved security situation.” He just can’t bear to tell the truth - he was wrong, and his way would have led to a debilitating, dangerous defeat and ensuing chaos in the most volatile region in the world.
Are they so obsessed w a black man winning and so against the Clintons that they will flush it all right down the sewer?
Yes!
There is one important fact about Obama’s Iraq policy the doesn’t get much attention. I now it is difficult on a daily and/or hourly basis to know what his plan is. But he talks alot about a 16 month withdrawl.
Even if you’re not a military person we all have experience in playing a card game right? Do you play with your cards facing up? When you were a kid growing up did you ever play army? If so, did you shout out to the other kids what your next move would be?
Hey everyone, I am moving to hide behind the rose bushes!
Of course not. Yet, Senator Obama has no problems in telling our enemies that he will remove two brigades from Iraq every month for 16 months. Hey why not even be more helpful and tell them which brigades you are moving and in what order.
If your enemy knows what you are going to do before you do it, does that provide them with a strategic advantage? Hell yes it does. Obama is very comfortable with playing with all his cards face up. If he was playing for pennies in some good natured card game, no problem. However, he is playing with the lives of brave men and women like several of my friends and family.
This will not get any play in the MSM or from his supporters but it is fundamentally wrong to telegraph your plans to your enemy. Further proof that he is not fit to lead.
I suppose that’s a legitimate criticism.
Of course, I could argue that McCain is tipping his hand in the same dangerous fashion. He’s setting no limit to how long we’ll stay. I won’t mention his famous comment about that. We’ve all heard it.
McCain also tells the enemy something: If it’s their strategy to keep us involved in an horrendously expensive, asymetrical, multi-front war until we’re financially bled dry, they’re on the track to ultimate success, because we’re going to play along with their game plan.
We’re measuring our progress by what’s happening in Iraq; they’re measuring their progress by what’s happening to the U.S. economy.
That’s just a theory. But remember, they were never in a position to rain down mass destruction on scores of U.S. cities, or invade us with occupying armies. They have to bring us to ruin in a different way. They’ve got to get us to destroy ourselves. That’s what 9/11 was all about: To lure us into a self-destructive course of action.
May I say Obama is a lYING THROUGH HIS TEETH, IDIOTIC, SELFCENTERED, BLACKMAN. PERIOD!
I have posted my “Why I’m a Democrat” video on youtube. I hope that everyone else who does the same will post it here and on our other PUMA sites. I left off the PUMA signs so that it won’t get blocked, but the message is pretty clear. Wait til the end. Please, when someone posts an Why I’m a Democrat video go watch it, vote on it and post comments. When the DNC sees how many of us are voting, they will have to check out what we are saying. This may be the easiest way to get to the DNC yet. Thanks DNC. Everybody post a video, you only have a few weeks, so hurry.

Positions change with circumstances. You think they shouldn’t? You think a political leader should always stick to one particular view, and stubbornly refuse to reevaluate or refine or restate that view in response to a rapidly changing realilty?
Do you think when a person opposes a war, they shouldn’t still have opinions about how the war is being conducted? One can oppose the war and still admit that the surge was less ill considered than some of our earlier moves.
The surge has apparently resulted in a reduction in violence in Iraq. Good. We’ll try to forget the fact that our own actions set the stage for that violence in the first place, and agree that least the body count isn’t rising so quickly now. Call that success. Long live the surge! But we’re still an invading army, and the occupation is still costing an economy that’s spiraling around the drain $341.4 million a day. That’s a long way from impending victory. With Iraq, I’ve never even heard a clear definition of the term.
Meantime there’s Afghanistan. Where we should have focused our attention in the first place. Instead of reducing a nation to ruin that was functioning as a foil against Iran.
How about being freaking honest and admitting you made a mistake about the surge? I seem to remember during the last SOTU Hillary stood up and applauded the surge while Obama sat on his hands with a frown.
Face it, he is not fit to be Commander in Chief.
Oblahblah “I was against the surge before I was for it.”
Mouse,
Get real, your post fails to address Obambi’s penchant for flip flopping and morphing into what ever he seems to think the people want to hear. It’s not just about Obambi’s flip flopping on the war, it’s a pattern of his, across the whole spectrum of debated issues and policy statements.
Where do I start, FISA ……………..
Please save the rest of us with your “Obambi talking points”, if I wanted to read that dribble I would visit the kool-aid website for the indoctrination.
Frick’in ObambiBots, I would love to reach my hand through my screen and rip out your forked tongue, then I would not have to wade through your absolute mind boggling crap!
LMAO!
I didn’t even notice the username. Maybe Mouse wants some cheese to go with that whine.
Belle,
Can you believe the nerve of “mouse” to post that garbage, even after the press called Obambi on his website flip flop scrubbing. I swear some of these ObambiBots are beyond redemption. It’s as if a Scientology type cult has them brainwashed. What kind of mindless person would post such counter-lies, I’m truly flabbergasted.
*shrug* I’ve got argument. You’ve got attitude.
McCain has reversed positions as many times as Obama. If you studied him as closely and critically as you look at Obama you’d see that. The policies McCain remains the most consistent on are the very ones I disagree with him the most strongly about.
If you don’t believe Obama actually represents change, why worry about him?
McCain clearly doesn’t represent change. If you read him closely, he doesn’t claim to. McCain represents continuity. If you like the way republican policies are playing out in reality, if you want to see them continued, by all means vote for him.
The way I look at it, McCain is the same old republican car given a new coat of paint. Nothing else has changed about it.
Anyone running for president had the information prior to the primaries.
So the notion that this is a shift due to changing circumstances is foolishly ignoring that reality.
No, he just *winked* because progressives had a one-note-agenda: the war.
Bill told you it was a fairytale. He was correct, as usual.
Look, little Mouse. Changing positions because of changing situations and admitting why you are changing isn’t the same thing as changing your position on a daily basis because you don’t know what’s going on, but want to win and nothing else matters.
Well thank goodness someone is keeping track of FLIPPER!
McSame is going to lose so badly, you will never recover from the ass-whooping. The MSM is in bed with McCain and the only reason he is even STILL in the race is due to the media lapdogs who want to ride in the kewl part of the plane - or on McCain’s lap. McCain is the sacrificial lamb going to the slaughter and you all know it. It is giong to be brutal for your side. Fun for the entire family.
Blaming flip-flops on Obama, and ignoring the many dozens of similar moves by McCain is typical right side behavior. Pure Rovian, but it is all you got - that and racism. Just a thought? Why not focus on the facts? Oh I forgot, that won’t work for your side. You better start attacking the next president - you don’t have much time to continue to feel superior. After King Bush leaves office, your lives will tumble back to the worthless and uneventful spew it was before 2000.
What a foaming mess you are. Lay off the bong water hon.
Who will never recover?
McCain is a protest vote.
If Obama wins, all it means is that while he fux up royally I get four years of smug smiles directed at all my creative class friends and won’t even have to say “I told you so.” They’ll all be, “damn! the bee-yatch was right again!”
It won’t be my fault if Obama is installed.

Kudos to Gov. Ann Richards, God rest her soul!
Ain’t it the truth, Ann. She and Molly Ivens were amazing women and God rest both of their souls. Her second campaign for Governor was marked by the same misogyny Hillary has faced (though not on a national scale) and Bush won. It cuts so deeply though both parties and now the sexist pigs have done it again.
I’m actually looking forward to any photo-ops from Iraq. Will Axelrod even dare to allow General Patraeus and Obama to appear in the same footage? Such a marked contrast between a man of humility and action versus one full of hot air and inaction, except the self-serving type, of course.
http://www.realclearpolitics.com/articles/2008/07/planning_to_ignore_the_facts.html
“At some point, Democrats decided that facts didn’t matter anymore in Iraq. And they nominated just the man to reflect the party’s new anti-factual consensus on the war, a Barack Obama who has fixedly ignored changing conditions on the ground.
It’s gotten harder as the success of the surge has become undeniable, but — despite some wobbles — Obama is sticking to his plan for a 16-month timeline for withdrawal from Iraq. He musters dishonesty, evasion and straw-grasping to try to create a patina of respectability around a scandalously unserious position.
Obama spokesmen now say everyone knew that President Bush’s troop surge would create more security. This is blatantly false. Obama said in early 2007 that nothing in the surge plan would “make a significant dent in the sectarian violence,” and the new strategy would “not prove to be one that changes the dynamics significantly.” He referred to the surge derisively as “baby-sit(ting) a civil war.”
Now that the civil war has all but ended, he wants to claim retroactive clairvoyance. In a New York Times op-ed laying out his position, Obama credits the heroism of our troops and new tactics with bringing down the violence. Our troops have always been heroic; what made the difference was the surge strategy that Obama lacked the military judgment — or political courage — to support.
In his oped, Obama states that “the same factors that led me to oppose the surge still hold true,” citing the strain on the military, the deterioration in Afghanistan and the fiscal drain. All of those are important, but pale compared with the achievement in Iraq — beating back al-Qaida and Iranian-backed militias, and restoring a semblance of order to a country on the verge of a collapse from which only our enemies could have benefited.
Politically, Obama has to notionally support defeating al-Qaeda in Iraq, so even after he’s executed his 16-month withdrawal, he says there will be a “residual force” of American troops to take on “remnants of al-Qaida.” How can he be so sure there will only be “remnants”? If there are, it will be because the surge Obama opposed has pushed al-Qaeda to the brink. The more precipitously we withdraw our troops, the more likely al-Qaeda is to mount a comeback.
Obama treats as a vindication a recent statement by Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki calling for a timeline for withdrawal of U.S. forces. But Maliki, playing to his domestic politic audience, can’t be taken at face value. Neither Maliki nor anyone around him talks of an unconditional 16-month timeline for withdrawal as being remotely plausible. His defense minister says Iraqis will be ready to handle internal security on their own in 2012 and external security by 2020.
The Iraqis most enthusiastic about Obama’s plan surely are al-Qaeda members, Sadrists, Iranian agents and sectarian killers of every stripe. The prospect of an American president suddenly letting up on them has to be the best cause for hope they’ve had in months. Obama’s withdrawal would immediately embolden every malign actor in Iraq, and increase their sway in Iraqi politics.
In his oped, Obama sticks to the badly dated contention that Iraqis “have not reached the political accommodation that was the stated purpose of the surge.” In fact, roughly 15 of 18 political benchmarks have been met by the Iraqis — progress Obama threatens to reverse.
Obama loves to say that we have to withdraw from Iraq “responsibly.” There’s nothing responsible about his plan. According to U.S. commanders on the ground, it may not even be logistically possible. Does Obama even care? He says that when he’s elected he’d give the military a new mission — to end the war. Conditions in Iraq, let alone winning, are marginalia.
There are two possible interpretations — either Obama is dangerously sincere, or he’s a cynical operator playing duplicitous politics with matters of war and peace. Watch this space.”
Obama can scrub his web site all he wants. I googled and live searched and came up with more than 1.6 million results on his original statement about the surge in 2007. I laugh! Scrub scrub scrub the site merrily merrily merrily its never out of sight!
