“The Obama Iraq Documentary: Whatever the Politics Demand”

From the John McCain campaign (full script below):

Memeorandum.com notes that all THREE network anchors — Brian Williams, Charlie Gibson and Katie Couric — will accompany Barack Obama on his trips to Europe, Iraq and Afghanistan next week. How many have accompanied John McCain on his overseas trips? Not one.

As Flopping Aces notes: “The major media lovefest for Obama comes out into the open!”

Flopping Aces adds:

It’s been a given that most “mainstream” “news” media types have been in the tank for Obama from the beginning. It’s also no secret that the “news” media’s former darling, John McCain, has been largely kicked to the curb by the same folks who built up his reputation in the first place.

But now, the medias bias is becoming so obvious that it would be laughable if they tried to deny it. Three major news anchors going on the road with a presidential candidate? It’s unprecedented.

But what isn’t new is the media fascination with Obama which often treats McCain as an afterthought. The following chart by the Project for Excellence in Journalism makes it clear:

CHYRON: The Obama Iraq Documentary

CHYRON: Where Does Barack Obama Stand On Iraq?

CHYRON: Said The Surge Would Make Things Worse

BARACK OBAMA (1/10/07): “I am not persuaded that 20,000 additional troops in Iraq is going to solve the sectarian violence there. In fact, I think it will do the reverse.”

CHYRON: Said He Always Said The Surge Will Make Things Better

BARACK OBAMA (1/5/08): “And I said at the time, when I opposed the surge, that given how wonderfully our troops perform, if we place 30,000 more troops in there, then we would see an improvement in the security situation and we would see a reduction in the violence.”

CHYRON: Translation: You’re Never Wrong If You Pretend You Gave The Right Answer All Along

CHYRON: Predicted That The Surge Would Fail

BARACK OBAMA (10/22/06): “Given the deteriorating situation, it is clear at this point that we cannot, through putting in more troops or maintaining the presence that we have, expect that somehow the situation is going to improve.”

BARACK OBAMA (7/18/07): “My assessment is that the surge has not worked and we will not see a different report eight weeks from now.”

BARACK OBAMA (11/11/07): “Finally, in 2006-2007, we started to see that, even after an election, George Bush continued to want to pursue a course that didn’t withdraw troops from Iraq but actually doubled them and initiated a surge and at that stage I said very clearly, not only have we not seen improvements, but we’re actually worsening, potentially, a situation there.”

CHYRON: Now Says It’s Working

BARACK OBAMA (2/21/08): “I think it is indisputable that we’ve seen violence reduced in Iraq.”

BARACK OBAMA (4/8/08): “I also think that the surge has reduced violence and provided breathing room.”

BARACK OBAMA (7/2/08): “The extraordinary work that our troops have done. They have performed brilliantly throughout the process. And obviously, I am very pleased to see the reductions in violence that have occurred over the last several months. There’s no doubt that because of their heroism and their outstanding work, we had the opportunity to salvage the situation in Iraq.”

CHYRON: Translation: He Isn’t Going To Let Facts Get In The Way Of His Position

CHYRON: For Immediate Withdrawal

BARACK OBAMA (9/12/07): “So let me be clear. There is no military solution in Iraq. There never was. The best way to protect our security and to pressure Iraq’s leaders to resolve their civil war is to immediately begin to remove our combat troops. Not in six months or one year, but now.”

BARACK OBAMA (3/19/08): “In order to end this war responsibly, I will immediately begin to remove our troops from Iraq. We can responsibly remove one to two combat brigades each month. If we start with the number of brigades we have in Iraq today, we can remove all of them in 16 months.”

BARACK OBAMA (5/2/08): “When I promise that we are going to bring this war in Iraq to a close in 2009, I want the American people to understand that I opposed this war in 2002, 2003, ‘04, ‘05, ‘06 and ‘07, so you can have confidence that I will be serious about ending this war.”

CHYRON: Against Immediate Withdrawal

ANCHOR (4/5/04): “You’ve said you thought troops should be withdrawn.” BARACK OBAMA: “No. No, I’ve never said that troops should be withdrawn. What I’ve said is that we’ve got to make sure that we secure and execute the rebuilding and reconstruction process effectively and properly and I don’t think we should have an artificial deadline when to do that.”

BARACK OBAMA (6/21/06): “A hard and fast, arbitrary deadline for withdrawal offers our commanders in the field, and our diplomats in the region, insufficient flexibility to implement that strategy.”

CHYRON: Translation: Changes His Position To Fit the Election

CHYRON: Against Funding The Troops

BARACK OBAMA (11/16/03): “Just this week, when I was asked, would I have voted for the $87 billion, I said no. And I said no unequivocally, because, at a certain point, we have to say no to George Bush.”

CHYRON: For Funding The Troops

BARACK OBAMA (4/5/04): “What’s important is what I don’t want a situation in which we have 80 or 90,000 young American men and women who are over there in a situation where they do not have the resources sufficient to ensure their own protection. And what we have to do is make sure that we have enough troop strength. As long as we have troops there, we have to make sure we have enough troop strength to make sure we are safe and secure.”

BARACK OBAMA (1/10/07): “We’ve got to make sure that they have all the resources necessary to come home safely and to execute the missions that have been laid out for them.”

CNN’S WOLF BLITZER (3/28/07): “Some ardent opponents of the war, like Dennis Kucinich, for example, who is a Democratic presidential candidate” BARACK OBAMA: “Right.” BLITZER: “He takes a principled stand. He’s not going to vote to fund the troops going off to this war, because he believes that would help bring the troops home.” OBAMA: “Right. You know, the problem is, is that you have got an obstinate administration that has shown itself unwilling to change, in the face of circumstances on the ground. And, in that situation, what you don’t want to do is to play chicken to — with the president, and create a situation in which, potentially, you don’t have body armor; you don’t have reinforced humvees; you don’t have night-vision goggles.”

ABC’S GEORGE STEPHANOPOULOS (5/13/07): “You said then that you have to say ‘no’ to George Bush because we can’t get steamrolled. Yet you go in the Senate, your critics say, and vote for the funding every single time.” BARACK OBAMA: “Because at that point you’ve got hundreds of thousands of young men and women who have to carry out the mission on behalf of the American people.”

CHYRON: Against Funding The Troops — Again

BARACK OBAMA (6/19/07): “Now, I introduced a plan in January that would have already started bringing our troops home by now, with the goal of bringing all combat brigades home by March 31st, 2008. Now we know the president vetoed a bipartisan plan just like that one a few weeks ago. And I’m proud I voted against giving a blank check.”

CHYRON: Translation: Only in Barack Obama’s Mind Is Voting Against Troops A Virtue

CHYRON: Says He Will Put A Strike Force In Iraq

BARACK OBAMA (3/19/08): “After this redeployment, we will leave enough troops in Iraq to guard our embassy and our diplomats, and a counter-terrorism force to strike al Qaeda.”

CHYRON: Says He Won’t Put A Strike Force In Iraq

REPORTER (3/31/08): “You’ve said you’d leave a small force there to deal with terrorist attacks. How long would you leave them there? And what’s your criteria for pulling them out?” BARACK OBAMA: “Well, no, no, that’s not what I’ve said. What I’ve said is that we will have troops looking after our embassy there, which we do everywhere. We do it in France. We do it in Great Britain. We have some military personnel that ensure that our diplomatic forces are taken care of.”

CHYRON: Translation: How To Keep Troops In Iraq And Still Sound Like You Want A Withdrawal

CHYRON: So What Is Barack Obama’s Position On Iraq?

BARACK OBAMA (6/5/08): “Well, you know, I never say there’s nothing or never or no way in which I’d change my mind.”

CHYRON: For Funding The Troops

BARACK OBAMA (4/5/04): “What’s important is what I don’t want a situation in which we have 80 or 90,000 young American men and women who are over there in a situation where they do not have the resources sufficient to ensure their own protection. I know nobody in Congress, Republican or Democrat, who is going to in any way strand troops who are presently in Iraq. We’ve got to make sure that they have all the resources necessary to come home safely and to execute the missions that have been laid out for them.” (MSNBC’s “Reaction To The President’s Speech On Iraq,” 1/10/07)

CNN’S WOLF BLITZER (3/28/07): “Some ardent opponents of the war, like Dennis Kucinich, for example, who is a Democratic presidential candidate” BARACK OBAMA: “Right.” BLITZER: “He takes a principled stand. He’s not going to vote to fund troops going off to this war, because he believes that would help bring the troops home.” OBAMA: “Right.

· In May 2007, Barack Obama Told ABC’s George Stephanopoulos That He Supported Funding To Give Troops The Equipment They Need. Stephanopoulos: “[Y]ou said then that you have to say ‘no’ to George Bush because we can’t get steamrolled. Yet you go in the Senate, your critics say, and vote for the funding every single time.” Obama: “Because at that point you’ve got hundreds of thousands of young men and women who have to carry out the mission on behalf of the American people. It’s not their fault that our civilian leadership made bad decisions and what I wanted to make sure of was that they had night vision goggles that they needed, the Humvees that they needed and I also felt and I’ve continued to feel this way that if we could create some semblance of stability and success in Iraq, that would be a good thing.” (ABC’s “This Week,” 5/13/07)

· In June 2007, At The Take Back America Conference, Barack Obama Said He Was “Proud” Of His Vote Against The Iraq Funding Bill. Now we know the president vetoed a bipartisan plan just like that one a few weeks ago. And I’m proud I voted against giving a blank check to the man who said he sees keeping us — keeping our troops in Iraq for as long as we have kept them in Korea. But we can’t give George Bush the last word here. We are 16 votes away in the Senate from ending this war, a comparable number in the House. We need to keep turning up the pressure on all those Republican congressmen and senators who refuse to acknowledge the reality that the American people know so well. We will call them; we will knock on their doors. We will bring our troops home . It is time to bring this war to a close. It is time to recognize there is no military solution to the problems in Iraq. It is time to turn the page.” (Sen. The mainstream US media is as “in the tank” for Obama as I’ve ever seen them be “in the tank” for anyone, Bobby Kennedy in 1968 included.

But today, unlike as in 1968, voters know that the American media is hopelessly biased and discount it. So, I don’t think it will really have any long-term effect on the outcome of the election.

Although I am certainly no fan of Hillary Clinton, the media treated her shabbily as well in the primaries. They’ve fallen in love with The Annonted One.

McCain on BO’s trip: “Been there done that.”

I love it. His few words put BO’s complete lack of substance into disrespectful perspective.

Yah, the corporate media are definitely in the tank for Obama. That tells me he’s the corporate candidate, the old school, Washington insider candidate. Who said Republicans are stupid and gullible? Looks like they share that in common with Democrats.

Well, maybe we should look on the bright side. One more weak, pandering, incompetent president, and the country will fracture into more manageable components. I’ll be moving out to CA.

Comment by Darryl | 2008-07-17 16:38:32

Exactly terri. People just don’t get it. We are nothing but brain washed TV fanatics. Coporate America knows this. You would think that our Politicans would actually grow a pair and stand up against them–especially after the dems argued against Bush and his cronies for so long. That is why I can’t trust either party now.

I have no idea why people assume that democrats are immune from the same take over in the republican party.

Comment by Lucinda | 2008-07-17 18:42:38

I knew who he was in the tank with when I saw the pictures of that infamous San Francisco event where he called small town people bitter, gun-clinging, religious fanatics. All of the guests were very rich and very white. The only black person pictured was directing traffic. I hope they at least took a plate of arugula out to him. And yet, we get called “racists”.

They lost me months ago when they kept trashing HRC.I, who used to consider myself a news junkie, do not get my news anymore from the MSM. How can you trust them anyway, on anything? It was a HUGE eye opener to me to see how much they were all so obviously biased, and not even the least bit embarrased about it. Long gone are the days when you wouldn’t know how a journalist really stood on a candidate or an issue because they were actually reporting the news, not their opinion.

No more CNN (except occasionally Lou Dobbs), no more MSNBC,CBS, ABC, NBC,FOX (never did watch) and I quit my local newspaper, the St Petersburg Times, for running pro-Obama “news” on the front page over and over. Bottom line is–you can’t believe a word they say.

I did find this online, though, check out this great column by Bill Maxwell, AA journalist (he deserves the title “journalist”, and not just for this column–he says it like it is, no matter what he’s writing about). He writes for the Times, but he doesn’t always agree with the prevailing Times editorials, especially about Obama:

With more of us going into Afghanistan, with the theme of the surge working in Iraq, then showing that Obama flip flops no one is going to want someone such as this who dont even know what his own policy is, they are going to win the same way Bush won a second term. I hate to say it but I am kinda thankful he has gotten so much media coverage. It’s through this coverage that we’ve in reality learned who the real Obama is because they’ve been too lazy to counter check each other and many on the net have caught that and showed us whom he really is. Otherwise we might not all be sitting here and knowing what we know about him. We might have all said I don’t like him, but I’ll hold my nose and vote for him. It’s actually through this love fest we’ve learned the truth.

New York Times Shocker: Only 31% of Whites Have Favorable Opinion of Obama.

McCain’s at 35%.

The real kicker for Hillary supporters is that she has a favorability of 40% among whites.

Not to put too fine a point on it, but among whites, Hillary beats McCain. Obama loses.

http://patriotroom.com/?p=561

Only 32% of whites think Obama is “Very Patriotic” versus 77% for McCain.

Another little gem. Guess which race will not vote for a black guy? Hmmmm.

Comment by txchelle | 2008-07-17 16:37:47

The only reasonable explanation that I can think of for these three news anchors to travel with Obama is to report on the historical aspects of how the first AA Presidential Nominee is received in Europe and Iraq.

Even then, it’s a stretch.

Just remember there are no lines in the sand for who lacks intelligence and common sense. Many people have what are called “book smarts” but are otherwise stupid and lacking in judgment. Someone can be a hollywood star, singer, prominent politician, CEO or news person-stupid people are everywhere. Some of the most intelligent people I know, with an extremely high IQ are just every day people. We’re the ones that are down in the trenches, day after day, working to make ends meet. We know the meaning of hard work, character and integrity. You don’t need a high paying job or a college degree for that.

It seems when people have too much money they feel morals and values are no longer useful. If they want something they just buy it. They can buy a mansion, jewelry or favors, support and approval from people.

When will the country wake up?

I’ve been asking myself this question again and again. Unlike Obama’s claim that if you charge him with flip-flopping then you haven’t been listening. I have been listening as has everyone on this list [except for the trolls]. And that’s why I know that there’s no question that this man has said and postured in a zig-zag line on whatever position is politically expedient in the moment.

But then, I spent an hour at my local mechanic’s shop. My battery went dead. Got a jump from triple A and waited while my car guy installed a new one, but I couldn’t help but overhear the conversation in the waiting room.

And this Obama? they said. Jesus, Christ Almighty! Our taxes are going to go through the roof.

Not a single person in the eight-person waiting area was an Obama supporter. And did you hear the flim-flams? they said. And the nonsense on energy? And Iraq? Who is this guy trying to kid?

Did my heart good. Fifty-two million dollars is not going to buy the vote of middle America.

Think again, Obama. And weep! Europe might bow down to your faux Messiah performance and sham promises. But Europeans don’t have the vote in November.

There’s reports that Obama wants the criticism of his wife to stop. Again.

An article written for Glamour magazine quotes Obama as saying that Michelle “is the most quintessentially American woman I know.”

WTF?

Does this oaf ever know when to shut up?! What an incredible Wuss. And if MicHELLe is the quintessential American woman, he is more clueless than we could ever imagine. That quote about MicHELLe is an insult to american women!

And now on topic:

Obama is no more a foreign policy expert than he is a world champion bowler. The fact that reporters are following him on his “historic” trip means nothing.
The MSM should definately not be trusted. When was the last time anyone actually watched Katie Couric?

Am I the only one wondering what’s going on with Obama’s financing? Just a couple days/ just yesterday! they were begging for donations. Many estimated less than 30 mil this month. Today they announce 54 million? That has Soros written all over it. That man has lost it. He’s lost millions upon millions of dollars trying to destroy the Republicans and lost at every turn. He might as well fly overhead and just toss money out to people, let it do some good instead of just throwing it away. That he’s backing Obama is even more telling. He’s so nuts now he’ll loose every penny he and his family has and wind up homeless just to try and put Obama in office. While after he looses Obama will take the money and build his own white house. Tell George sorry man can’t help you out. I never really liked you to begin with. I just needed your money. Maybe he’s suffering from Alzheimers. He “used” to be a shrewd business man, now…I wonder if he’s even all there.

I’m on BO’s list(for info purposes only), I got a fundraising email only a few days ago that displayed a bar graph comparing Obama/DNC and John McCain/RNC numbers and showing a large gap.
Now they come out and say that in June they started closing the gap. If I believe them now, it means they were lying a few days ago. It isn’t like they just figured out what they made in June right now. This is just when they are reporting the numbers. They had to know they were sending out fraud, or they are lying now about having raised all that in June, and some of it is from July.
Whatever the truth is one of those two fundraising emails has to be a lie.

This ad is excellent. A similar ad can be made about Obama for nearly every issue. The problem is by November they will need to make the ad so long that they will have to buy a half-hour time slot like the infomercials do. I don’t think the media pays any attention to Obama’s vacillations.

This whole charade with the networks following Obama overseas is prewired. They will say that Obama has such a command of the world stage and he is well equiped to be president, blah blah blah.

I have never seen the media anywhere close to this bias as they have become this year. I want to see the media whine if Obuma loses.

Option 1. Brother Jeb and the Supreme Court.

Option 2. Fraudulent voting machines in Ohio and a wimpy, whiney elitist leading the “defeated” ticket.

Option 3. Chicago thug crowned President of the World by media acclamation.

Who has been orchestrating this? If anybody has a better suspect than George Soros and the globalists (aka Anglo-Dutch oligarchists + Un of Chicago free-market economists), I’d like to know.

Of course, it almost goes without saying that whoever the ultimate villains are, they will pressure and push from the shadows and use proxies whenever possible. Right, Scooter?

I agree the election was wrong. The Democrats cow towed to a bunch of bitter bigots by giving Florida and Michigan some delegates when all candidates agreed that these states broke the rules. This allowed bitter bigoted biddies to think Hillary had a chance. She did not and has not.

Say what you will about McCain, but he has been steadfast on Iraq, even when his position went strongly against public opinion in late 2006. You may disagree with his position on the war, but at the same time you have to respect the way that he has stuck to it and isn’t constantly “refining” it the way Barack Obama is.

Tim also exposed Obama as stating that he didn’t know HOW he would have voted for the war since he did not see the evidence and was not in the U.S. Sentate!
