Politically Tone Deaf, Morally Bereft; The Cowardly Obama Campaign Strikes Again

The Obama campaign’s idea of political courage is to run it up a flagpole and see what they can get away with. Then when it doesn’t work, pretend they weren’t really trying to do it in the first place.

Not unlike a naughty child who just threw a water balloon at teacher and doesn’t want to get caught.

First we have the Obama Presidential Seal – i.e., Obama as Übermentsch. This blue hellaciousness was a grotesque lift of the real Presidential seal even though he is only the presumptuous nominee. Remember, he hasn’t yet ‘arrived’ at the Convention. How arrogant and how sad. To think he needs to stand behind a symbol like this to make himself “look” more presidential. You know, sort of like subliminal advertising in commercials and/or the ‘Vulcan mind-meld.’

Gee, Senator, how about doing your job once in a while? You know, like holding even one subcommittee meeting on Afghanistan these past 18 months, you know, since, umm, you are, like, the Chairman of the Subcommittee on European Affairs. That might be kinda presidential. And our troops and our citizens might really appreciate it.

When his ‘logo’ was met with outrage and ridicule, suddenly it was ‘oh gee, this was only a one time deal, for a special event, we never really intended to use it.’ Right.

Then we have Obama deciding to give another one of his glorious speeches at the Brandenburg Gate in Germany. While I don’t usually find myself in agreement with Charles Krauthammer, his new opinion piece, The Audacity of Vanity, is spot on:

What Obama does not seem to understand is that the Brandenburg Gate is something you earn. President Ronald Reagan earned the right to speak there because his relentless pressure had brought the Soviet empire to its knees and he was demanding its final “tear down this wall” liquidation. When President John F. Kennedy visited the Brandenburg Gate on the day of his “Ich bin ein Berliner” speech, he was representing a country that was prepared to go to the brink of nuclear war to defend West Berlin.

When Chancellor Merkel kinda sorta told Obama that was not a good idea, the basic response was: ‘No worries, we were never really planning to do it anyway. We’ll just find some other powerful monument to stand in front of for our campaign backdrop.’

Senator Obama’s self-congratulatory European/Iraq tour is merely another marketing ploy designed to make him “look” more presidential – without ever actually having done anything that is Presidential. So just flying around a bunch of foreign countries is supposed to give him foreign policy street cred? Not unlike sitting in Rev. Wright’s church for 20 years was supposed to give him Chicago street cred? Got it.

Instead of doing his American Idol victory lap, dragging the three biggest news anchors in tow to worship at his feet, why doesn’t he consent to do a town hall meeting or two and face Senator McCain? You know – talk to the American people. Umm, yeah, like, the ones who he is supposed to be helping out of the morass we are in as a nation right now.

And now, the pièce de resistance. His treatment of Senator Max Cleland. I would say it is the latest of his blunders, but, sadly, there is a new one every day.

From Politico:

Former Georgia Sen. Max Cleland was an icon of Sen. John Kerry’s 2004 campaign, a badly wounded war hero who lost his seat, Kerry deplored, after a television advertising campaign questioned his commitment to national security.

But to the Obama campaign, Cleland has another qualification: Registered lobbyist.

So Cleland — despite his iconic status — was abruptly disinvited from appearing with Obama in Atlanta July 8, three sources familiar with the incident said.

“This was a hard decision regarding Senator Cleland,” said Obama’s deputy campaign manager, Steve Hildebrand, in an email. He cited Obama’s policy of banning lobbyists from participating in fundraising or giving money.

“If we make exceptions, we will open ourselves to criticism,” he said.

Cleland has told associates he was asked to appear at an Obama fundraising event in Atlanta on July 8, only to be told at the last minute that he wouldn’t be welcome.

The policy has been a key symbol of Obama’s outsider status, but many Democrats have also quietly questioned whether it goes too far when prominent party figures like Cleland, who an associate said has never actually lobbied in Washington, are left out in the cold on a technicality.

Cleland is registered to lobby for a company whose products are aimed at helping soldiers recover more quickly from battlefield injuries, Tissue Regeneration Technologies.

So let me get this straight. A man who is in a wheel chair, an icon of the Democratic party, who works to help wounded soldiers’ recovery when he himself lost three limbs in the war is told he is not welcome because – I must repeat this – if the Obama camp makes exceptions they will “open themselves to criticism”?

Hold fast my heart, Obama – you wouldn’t want to be criticized!! Horrors. Better to defecate on a man who almost died for his country, who served honorably in the Senate only to be swift boated in 2002. Now you – the standard bearer of the Democratic Party – tell him to get lost? Nice going, Senator.

Truly, this is among the worst of his idiotic, insensitive and cowardly behaviors. Once again, Senator Obama has proven there is no one person, no policy, no ideal, nor code of conduct he won’t throw under the bus for his own political gain or to cover his own shape-shifting persona.

For someone who is running on his great judgment, he seems to exercise none.

Senator Obama’s endless gaffes and misstatements, his blunders and the well of seemingly never ending arrogance are given grateful audience by his supporters and unfathomable political cover from mainstream news outlets and the Party powerful.

A good friend said to me today, a cruise ship is slow to turn. I’m still waiting for all those aboard this particular Titanic to change course.

The way they treat Cleleand should give us all pause. Purity in the Party is paramount. There will be no exceptions. The civilian national security force will make sure of that.

Comment by Shainzona | 2008-07-19 13:29:08

Purity - only expected from the rest of us, never the Great BO.

I mean - it’s Cleland, for heaven’s sake….AND the group he is registered with is Tissue Regeneration Technologies.

Barack Obama is a dickweed…and I’ve only ever said that about two other people…Bush and Cheney.

Sigh.

Comment by Factcheck2 | 2008-07-19 13:52:11

The idea that Obama has not received ample help from lobbyists or taken special interest money is laughable. His entire candidacy was a creation of the oil companies, investment banks and corporate law firms that do most of the lobbying on Capitol Hill. Two of his biggest fundraisers have been oil company lobbyists. It’s too bad someone like Max Cleland doesn’t come out and expose this hypocrite. Here are the facts and sources, Mr. Cleland, to save you some time with the research.

I think the only true Honesty in news for Obama’s trip will come from the European Papers. Let’s hope the Bushes and MCcain’s have more friends over there in the newspaper businesses than Enemies,We Just Might Get a Positive Negative News releases on Obama’s Arrogance.More than I think we’ll get from our own Newspapers.

Comment by American Woman | 2008-07-20 10:14:58

I think we can count on Isreal to tell the truth. The article about Cleleland brought tears to my eyes…I love this unity in the party. I think thier real reason for not letting him appear is because he is a War Hero…and they don’t want to bring anymore Hero’s out that might upstage his lack of involement with our Militaries causes. This indeed should give every True Democrat pause. The idea that any Politician running for the highest office in the land doesn’t except any money from Lobbyest is absurde and insults the commone sense of the American People…

How can someone as arrogant, self centered and down right mean have gotten so far?

Could it be that he’s never really been tested in a real campaign? We know he’s managed to get his competition kicked off of the ballot.

Now he’s acting like he is the presumptive Prez — and that the convention is a mere time wasting event — he’s preparing for his coronation at a foot ball stadium.

Obama is just plain MEAN.

All of his followers deserve a weekend in the country, Kenya. Just don’t take your family to church there.

Obama’s paid staff=2000 people

The kingdom of Obama is larger than Bush’s currently whole White House staff!!! Can you imagine that?
…A paid staff of 2,000 is unheard of in the history of presidential elections. Consider that it’s five times larger than Bush’s campaign staff in 2004, which is the next biggest ever assembled. Indeed, Obama will have more people working on his campaign than President Bush currently has in the whole White House. …
H/T:Weekly Standard Blog

UPDATE: In addition Obama has 300 foreign policy advisors according to Herald Tribune. It goes on to say that,”300-person foreign policy campaign bureaucracy, organized like a mini State Department, to assist a candidate whose limited national security experience remains a concern to many voters…”

Comment by memyself&i | 2008-07-19 13:32:58

It depends on what you mean by “right”. It looks like what is right for Obama is what will get him elected, not what is right for this country and the American people. For 20 years, when he was trying to get his foot in the door of Chicago politics the right thing was “Wright”. Now Wright is wrong.

Comment by Lou | 2008-07-19 13:45:57

He’s posing as a Democrat just like he poses on every other issue. That’s why he projects onto us that we are Republicans…because he is? Looking at his district in Chicago, we see that he does not have a Democrat bone in his body. Anyone can call themselves a Democrat. Being one is very different than calling oneself a Democrat.
Cindy McCain has way more of a Democrat heart than Obama does.
I think we all see this phony Democrat plain as day.
This is the starting point of relieving some confusion of his actions. He wants to be just like Bush.

For the first time ever, and I never thought I would be saying this, I actually fear what would happen under an administration with him. I cannot in good conscious vote for a democrat this year because I just cannot believe what they are allowing to play out each day.

He proves daily why he should not be running for office. WTF? Are the Democrats TRYING to lose? This shit is unreal. Senator Obama cares about Senator Obama. This is like being awake in a nightmare. It was a VALIANT effort, but the PUMA PROTEST consists of voting for McCain if Hillary is not in the roll call vote in Denver. Slight variations thereof.

rethuglicans, independents and others may be chiming in, but HOW can you PROTEST without having been a DEM? It doesn’t even make sense. And if you are a Dem the PURPOSE of the protest is to get the Dems back on track with standing with the VOTERS.

We’re going to SUCCESSFULLY elect McCain if Hillary is defrauded. No one is going to successfully “destroy” the Dem party and trolls who wish to do so are BORING and should run along and poop up the Free Republic site instead.

Neither party is dead per se. It is only their current platforms that are dead. The Clinton Democrat platform is dead and the Reagan Republican platform is dead. The parties are experiencing another cycle.

The new Democratic platform is:

-the environment over the people (replaces the environment for the sake of the people)

i.e. Don’t drill in ANWR because it might hurt Caribou but force everyone to buy highly volatile fluorescent lightbulbs that contain deadly mercury.

-the world over America (replaces America and the world)

i.e. Obama argues that we should consume less so that the world likes us more

-winning over what is right (replaces winning by doing what is right)

i.e. Kick out the former Senator because you might get criticized.

-socialism/communism/radical populism (replaces moderate capitalism and corporate accountability)

i.e. Michelle’s “everyone has to give up a piece of their pie.”

The new Republican platform is:

-the people first and then the environment (replaces What is the environment?)

i.e. Drill for oil because Americans are hurting, but do it responsibly.

-America first, then the world (replaces America is the world)

i.e. That which is in American interests is paramount; however, the interests of our allies are important too.

-win through ideas (replaces win through smearing opponents)

i.e. Hold townhall meetings where people can ask question, not hold big rallies where people worship the rock star.

-capitalism with minor regulation (replaces laissez faire (who cares?) capitalism)

i.e. Use competition to spur economic development but hold corporations responsible for scamming the public.

As anyone can see, the new McCainian Republican party is more like the old Clintonian Democratic party but with stronger foreign policy and the new Obamian Democratic party is more like that of Central and South American populist states like Venezuela’s 21st century socialism but with more cultism and corruption.

Comment by Grail Guardian | 2008-07-19 14:39:28

The problem is, when you buy a product (say Tide) for years and then suddenly P&G puts cow dung in the bottle (or box), you still think you bought Tide till you wash your first few loads. Then you start to get the idea that maybe there’s something wrong with your washer or the water. Because you’ve been buying Tide for years and it always cleaned your clothes just fine. Why would they change it? We all liked it the way it was! Many people will change everything else involved before coming to the conclusion that their beloved Tide is now cow dung.

The brands are what is broken. I’ll never buy New Improved Democrat or Republican Lite. I need a new brand that I can be sure isn’t tainted.

I’m against drilling in ANWR. There is not enough oil there to merit it. There are billions of barrels along the OCS. There is the shale in CO. Our reserves are 97%. That buys us time to develop new energy solutions. But ANWR is more than just caribou and polar bears. It is protected by federal law initiated by Eisenhower and supported by Bill Clinton. Endangering plant and animal species that mat prove invaluable to the survival of the planet and the human race is not worth a few paltry barrels of oil.

A coalition of military groups is planning a nationally televised town-hall-style meeting with the presidential candidates near Fort Hood, Tex., the largest active-duty military installation in the country. But so far, only Senator John McCain of Arizona, the presumptive Republican nominee, has agreed to attend.

CBS has agreed to broadcast the meeting live from 9 to 11 p.m. Eastern time on Monday, Aug. 11. The candidates would face questions directly from an audience of 6,000 people, made up of veterans, service members and military families from the base.
Senator Barack Obama of Illinois, the presumptive Democratic nominee, has not agreed to participate.

I absolutely agree. This isn’t about hate or even disgust over what the DNC did although I’m still mad as hell. It’s not about Hillary Clinton though I think she and other women have been treated abominably during the primary season. It’s all about what has Barack Obama done during his lifetime that has prepared him to take the reins of the world’s most powerful country? What sacrifice, what moment of decision, what accomplishment can anyone point to and say . . . oh, okay he’s qualified; now, I understand.

Photo-ops don’t count. Grand speeches do not qualify as prime preparation. The question remains: he can talk the talk but can he walk the walk? From what I’ve seen so far? No. I still do not know what this man’s core values are other than winning an election, anyway he can. I don’t like what we know of his past connections to Chicago and Axelrod makes me feel downright queasy. His gaffes and switches on policy issues mark him as the amatuer he truly is. His intelligence isn’t in question. I think he’s a very bright, possibly brilliant man. But you need more than IQ to be a good leader. You need more than charisma. You need a vision, not simply for yourself but for those you wish to lead.

I don’t see that in Barack Obama.

Everything I’ve seen and heard so far makes me think: fraud. Another puppet being offered up to the American public. He and his honchos will bow and scrape to every special interest group and add only more arrogance to the mix and leave more disillusionment in their wake.

This is not The One. This is another actor, who can’t get his lines straight. And the script? We should really be asking ourselves: who’s writing and directing it? And why the MSM is willing to give a standing ovation to every act.

We need someone who has proven he/she has worked very hard to accomplish something - not for himself but for others - without the work and accomplishment being public and praised. Obama has only worked for his own promotion, not for others, and certainly not anonimously.
And Axelrod = Rove. Exactly the same. Although, believe it not, I am beginning to almost listen to Rove on Fox. He sometimes makes good sense. :)

In fact, I’m not Cleland and I’ll call him that anyway. This is the same man that didn’t want Muslim women in burkas seen in the camera shot at his event. Think maybe he doesn’t want to be seen with the “wrong type”? I do.

Comment by imustprotest | 2008-07-19 15:07:25

I don’t think we need to bring in his wife to discuss the problems with Obama. She is not running for president. What handicaps Obama is his inexperience, impatience, arrogance and probably a personality disorder (narcissist or sociopath). Despite all of these problems he is being propped up by the DNC, MSM and Netroots. If any of his crutches are removed he will fall.

Got it.

You nailed it Ani. Every credible report about Obama’s political history says the same thing: he does not like to work, but is happy to accept the glory for others’ efforts. He is a joke compared to the great leaders he mimics. MLK JR? Please. What has he done to sacrifice and risk his life that merits such adulation? People are so desperate for a savior that they are projecting all their “hopes and dreams” onto a highly undeserving marketing creation.

And the “unfathomable political cover from mainstream news outlets and the Party powerful” has been the main problem. The average American has no idea about who BO really is and only see the carefully crafted and protected image.

And the Cleland story is the height of hypocrisy. When is the media going to accurately report the source of his finances? When are they going to tell the American people that his “no special interest money” is a crock? Better to insult a genuine war hero (again) than tarnish that bright & shiny lie.

The idiots can send all the messages they want to — I’ve blocked all incoming messages from the Democrat Party on my IP’s server.

Here’s how you do it — if you can access your email online you should be able to block specific email addresses. When Dean sent a very obnoxious email I clicked on that email on the online mail access that my IP has set up. One of the choices at the top is “block mail from this sender” (or words with that meaning). So I clicked that option and I have not gotten another stupid DNC email!!

When is the Dem leadership going to get it — THEY do not select the winner and then demand that we fall in line with their choice???

The majority have made our choice — Clinton.

Comment by Northwest rain | 2008-07-19 13:50:27

Clinton or McCain — there is NO other option.

In a sign that senior Democratic officials remain deeply concerned that post-primary bitterness could imperil Barack Obama’s chances, two top Democratic officials have emailed a sharply-worded letter to major donors and other leading Dems confessing “fatigue and irritation” at those withholding full support from Obama and demanding that they get behind him “without conditions or demands.”

“I supported Hillary Clinton and am proud and pleased that I did,” reads the email, which was written by Donald Fowler, a former DNC chair and DNC member-at-large who was one of Hillary’s most prominent supporters. Alice Germond, the Secretary of the DNC, is also a signatory. (*wrong-Alice was in the tank for Obama*)“But she lost,” continues the email, which was sent our way by a source. Barack Obama won. It’s over.”

“It is time for all Democrats, supporters of Senator Clinton and all other contenders for the nomination, to stand with him to secure his election and the election of Democrats at all levels of competition,” the email continues.

The email also laces sharply into Hillary supporters who remain embittered by the primary and are demanding things in exchange for their support.

“I must confess a bit of fatigue and irritation with people who continue to carp, complain, and criticize the results of the primary and lay down conditions for their support,” it reads. “It is time to act in a mature and resourceful fashion. It’s time to put the primaries behind us. It’s time to support Barack Obama without conditions or demands.”

Pretty stern stuff. The full email after the jump.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Saying Obama won does not make it so. He did not win enough of the required pledged delegates to be the presumptive nominee. How many times do we have to say this? When will Democracy be upheld? Obama did NOT win!
Besides-you don’t own us, we are not one of your many little puppets. Alice Germond never supported Hillary-They like to say they did when really they were the people who squashed Democracy on May 31st.
Comment by missE | 2008-07-19 14:40:20
Alice Germond repeatedly referred to the Michigan primary as “an event” at the RBC meeting. She refused to use the words primary or election.
I am sure the good people of Michigan were surprised to learn they did not have a primary but were just invited to “an event”.
Comment by Grail Guardian | 2008-07-19 15:06:11
I must confess that I experienced fatigue and irritation at rigged caucuses and the racist campaign run by Barack Obama, not to mention seeing DNC officials like Donna Brazile practically take up housekeeping at CNN headquarters to continually blow the trumpet for the Chosen One (while claiming neutrality, of course.)
He barely knows the country or history. He dont even know how many states we have! Think about it. Your trying to become president of this nation and you dont understand the basics. There are no great lakes in oregon and we dont have 57 states, 48+2 does not equal 48.
I never could of possibly thought I would have even a small drop of fear in regards to a particular candidate. But not fear for myself. But those who I leave behind when I deploy. If this is any indication how vets and military will be treated under a Obama presidency. God help us all.
Notice that Obama’s support comes from the Civilian leaders of the various military branches.
He wants to establish a civilian national defense force.
What does that mean? No one knows and even his own campaign can’t say what it is.
He has also said he has no problem with companies like Blackwater.
Blackwater and friends. Coming to a city near you.
I’ve seen videos of people reporting that this type of thing is coming. They were all dismissed as ‘conspiracy theorists’.
Guess not.
Comment by Grail Guardian | 2008-07-19 14:51:58
The things that Were considered “way out there” when this campaign started are suddenly not so outlandish, are they? We look at these suggestions as conspiracy, because no sane person would do them. But we are not dealing with sane people here. We are dealing with pure, unmitigated greed and corruption. I will say it again: we don’t know what we’re really in for here until we see who his puppet masters really are!
Comment by candymarl | 2008-07-19 15:35:44
What’s odd is that Robert Greenwald, a man who testified before Congress about Blackwater’s doings, is staunchly pro-Obama. Apparently Obama’s support of Blackwater doesn’t bother him.
The left doesn’t mind support of a mercenary organization as long as one their own does it.
On another note, when Bush and his minions disrespected Max Cleland the left was highly upset.
Obama does it and not a peep.
We are so screwed.
Ordinary Americans can’t be expected to understand the military culture — HOWEVER, a Senator and a person running for office of Prez of the US — MUST understand the military — no exceptions, no excuses.
This is one of the main reason I will NOT vote for Obama — EVER! He is unfit to be CiC of the military. He will never be ready — he is too lazy.
Obama was never a child in America, he was in Indonesia from age 6 to 10. In America he would have learned about the States at that age, he would have gone bowling. Instead Obama leaned about the Muslim religion and even learned how to recite evening prayers, but he has NEVER BEEN A MUSLIM. Nick Kristoff did a interview with Obama and Obama sang the evening prayers for Kristoff. Why did Obama go to Pakisten as a young man? Maybe just to visit terrorist friends. I liked to travel when I was young but only went to beach resorts like Acapulco, never thought to travel to Pakisten.
I think you’re wrong, Fareed Zakaria interviewed Obama about a week ago and he asked Obama what he remembered most about living in Indonesia. Obama answered, “It was when my mother told me she married a man from Indonesia and we are moving there”. I don’t think a 2 y.o. would remember that, but I can see that it rocked Obama’s world.
My son (special ops at Ft. Frankly, I can think of no greater supporters of the average troop than Bill and Hillary Clinton.
Imagine if a candidate for President of France or any other country wanted to make a campaign speech in front of the Statue of Liberty, most Americans would call him an arrogant pompous jerk and hope he or she loses the election. The fact that Obama, a candidate for President, was vain enough to plan on making an election speech at the Brandenburg gate should send the same warning signals to American voters.
Comment by Sharon | 2008-07-19 13:47:15
I’m convinced this is a strategy of Obama and his minions. The more honorable the person or the more respect she/he deserves, the more dishonor and disrespect are heaped upon them (think Bill and Hillary, Wes Clark, now Max Cleland, how many others?).
Diminishing these real leaders, in their twisted minds, makes bambi look the tallest.
Watch - what the Obama camp did to Cleland was the dog whistle to their enablers in the media to start dissing him - if they haven’t started already (don’t watch anymore, so I don’t know). Anything to prop up the empty suit. The media pooches are such good little pets…
Obama refused to be present at an open question for the audience segment with Greta Van Susteren, McCain has agreed to answer all questions from her audience. Obama has refused to hold joint town hall meetings with McCain to answer spontaneous questions from the audience. He REFUSES to meet with Americans and answer questions, yet he tours the globe putting on a show for foreigners? This man lacks character, is a coward and could care less about Americans. That might be kinda presidential. And our troops and our citizens might really appreciate it.
Obama in Afganistan presently seeking support and Presidential appearance, with the audacity to face soldiers who’s lives are in peril every single day and this worthless politician never lifted a finger to support them with his commitee.
Isn’t this the same as a community organizer looking for support from the community he represented and did nothing for except advance himself, meanwhile the people are suffering wirse from the community organizer doing nothing for them?
Those registered lobbyist who are bundling dollars for Obama should be exposed by name. He also has
Soldier4hillary is right when she says that Obi doesn’t care about the military. That’s why he supports the messianic leaders of Blackwater. They all worship at the alter of mammon.
As for Max Cleland, why in God’s name would Obi want to support him? After all, Max gave for his country and gave more than Obi could ever comprehend. Comment by tiberius | 2008-07-19 17:50:13
Barack Obama has a 3rd grade comprehension level?
This would be the guy who was chosen as an editor of the Harvard Law Review, then was elected its president. This wasn’t merely an honorific position; he functioned as the Review’s editor-in-chief and supervised its staff of 80 editors. He graduated from Harvard J.D. magna cum laude. You can do that based only on academic achievement and merit. Obama later went on to teach constitutional law at the University of Chicago Law School for twelve years, as a Lecturer for four years (1992–1996), and as a Senior Lecturer for eight years (1996–2004). You can’t simply be good and do that; you’ve got to be truly exceptional.
McCain, by the way, graduated in the bottom 1% of his class at Annapolis–894th out of a class of 899. Both his father and grandfather had been Annapolis graduates and both were Navy admirals, so McCain was what you might call connected.
Oh by the by, when you say McCain has no leadership experience, you’re pissing off a lot of military people and pushing them to Mccain. In the military, you have to take a shit load of leadership classes. Enlisted as well as officer. You have no clue what the military puts their people through. But you nor barky knew that did you? Douche. That to me means more experience than snorting coke in a college dorm.
Comment by Donna Brazile | 2008-07-19 19:12:36
Comment by Just A Thought | 2008-07-19 23:09:05
Life experiences make McCain the best choice, period!
He has some. He also has a verfiable record of every vote, every action he has taken. Everything that has transpired in his life. Good and bad.
Obama remains an enigma: no school records, no Illinois Senate records, no actual birth certificate, no 2007 tax records, no firm stance on anything from FISA, to Nafta, to Iraq, to Women’ rights, etc. All he has is a mantra.
McCain, warts and all, is a known quantity. I can deal with the known. Even when I disagree. With McCain, when I do disagree it is treated as relevant.
So far, no one has called me a racist, a bigot, or an idiot when I have pointed out my disageements with aspects of McCain’s policies on conservative sites. My concerns have been met with serious discussion. Try getting the same on an Obama site.
Messianic, enigmatic, shape-shifting con-men trouble me far more than known devils. Obama was my least favorite of the original known candidates for the Dem. nomination, based on the shallowness of his history. He still is.
I will vote for McCain and deal with trying to see that he governs for far more of the American people as a whole than Bush has.
I trust him to do so!
And I would love for you to actually show us his grades. From what I understand his grades won’t be released until after the election. What is he hiding?
Comment by tiberius | 2008-07-19 18:55:12
Magna cum laude at Harvard:
“Each June, the Faculty will recommend for the degree magna cum laude those students with the highest grade point averages who have been recommended for highest honors or high honors, and who have not already been recommended for the summa degree, so that the total number of degrees summa cum laude and magna cum laude constitute 20% of the graduating class.”
I presume that means his GPA was in the upper 20% of his graduating class–and we are talking about Harvard, not some community college. This would have been an unusually well-qualified field of highly competitive students. There are no “affirmative action” considerations when it comes to Latin honors at Harvard. Latin honors are based entirely and exclusively upon merit.
I believe having Dashle’s smug smartass face in front of every camera he can steal is much more detrimental to Obama’s campaign than having one of the few veterans who actually supports Obama there.
Cleland a decorated hero who actually did sacrifice for his country. Obama could do much worse than Max Cleland to put a human face on his campaign. Of course maybe Cleland as a triple amputee isn’t pretty enough. Obama is all about the pretty people. Don’t want to remind anyone that war has consequences.
Comment by Clinton Fan | 2008-07-19 15:38:34
How about AXELROD???
Check this shit out:
http://www.newsweek.com/id/138519
Neither Axelrod nor his partners at ASK ever registered as lobbyists for Commonwealth Edison—and under Illinois’s loose disclosure laws, they were not required to. “I’ve never lobbied anybody in my life,” Axelrod tells NEWSWEEK. “I’ve never talked to any public official on behalf of a corporate client.” (He also says “no one ever denied” that Edison was the “principal funder” of his firm’s ad campaign.)
But the activities of ASK (located in the same office as Axelrod’s political firm) illustrate the difficulties in defining exactly who a lobbyist is. In 2004, Cablevision hired ASK to set up a group similar to CORE to block a new stadium for the New York Jets in Manhattan. Unlike Illinois, New York disclosure laws do cover such work, and ASK’s $1.1 million fee was listed as the “largest lobbying contract” of the year in the annual report of the state’s lobbying commission. ASK last year proposed a similar “political campaign style approach” to help Illinois hospitals block a state proposal that would have forced them to provide more medical care to the indigent. One part of its plan: create a “grassroots” group of medical experts “capable of contacting policymakers to advocate for our position,” according to a copy of the proposal. (ASK didn’t get the contract.) Public-interest watchdogs say these grassroots campaigns are state of the art in the lobbying world. “There’s no way with a straight face to say that’s not lobbying,” says Ellen Miller, director of the Sunlight Foundation, which promotes government transparency.
Axelrod says there are still huge differences between him and top McCain advisers, including the fact that he doesn’t work in D.C. But his corporate clients do have business in the capital. One of them, Exelon, lobbied Obama two years ago on a nuclear bill; the firm’s executives and employees have also been a top source of cash for Obama’s campaign, contributing $236,211. Axelrod says he’s never talked to Obama about Exelon matters. “I’m not going to public officials with bundles of money on behalf of a corporate client,” Axelrod says.
No, what Axelrod is doing is taking money from corporate clients and using it to bullshit people to hector those public officials on behalf of the corporate client via sleazy ad campaigns. Basically, the bastard is using the media to make stupid people (he likes working with them, apparently) do his lobbying work FOR HIM.
Newsweek called him on this–did the rest of the “Get in line to blow Barack” media do the same? Hell, no. No guts. No glory.
Dashle is one of the big backers of corn alcohol that drove up prices all over the world, I heard he has made big $$$$$ from it.
Sad part, what do the poorest of the poor eat here in America, cheap corn products, which will now become more expensive for them.
It sounds to me like BO invited Cleland to speak in order to make a point of rejecting him. Democrats may lose majorities in the House and Senate if they (I used to say we) persist in advancing this hateful man as the nominee. All he had to do was approach HRC supporters with humility and ask us for our votes. Instead, he continues his brow beating thuggery. It just won’t work.
Ann - I totally agree! But Obama and his enablers in the DNC refuse to admit that they did anything wrong in FL and MI. They didn’t do anything wrong in pre-selecting Obama. They didn’t do anything wrong when they allowed him to use the race card against our first “black president” and his First Lady. They didn’t do anything wrong when they allowed Obama to spread the meme that Hillary wanted Obama assassinated. Nope, nothing to see here.
Since they didn’t do anything wrong, there’s nothing to apologize for. We just need to “get over it.” See how that works?
Idiot DNC schmucks. PUMA!
AXELROD is a de facto lobbyist. What, it’s OK to make money from the “lobbying profession” but only if you’re not REGISTERED? That’s like saying it’s OK to be a prostitute so long as you don’t have a PIMP! The judgment to serve, all right–serve to rile up the stupid who don’t see the profound hypocrisy behind the hype.
Obama is an idiot. A particularly dispicable one, in this instance. His campaign whiz kid, Alexrod, is making a BUNDLE off of the profession he pretends to eschew, but he’s fucking Cleland because Cleland is just making a living.
Veterans don’t take kindly to the mistreatment of Senator Cleland, and that’s something that won’t be forgotten.
PRESUMPTUOUS nominee is an apt descriptor.
If you really give a rat’s ass about veterans, you might want to take a close look at John McCain’s voting record on veterans’ health care and veterans’ benefits. It’s appalling.
I assure you, veterans take much less kindly to that.
Comment by Donna Brazile | 2008-07-19 18:24:05
The same way they might take to Obama saying that he enacted legislation to extend health care to wounded veteran’s but didn’t even vote on the bill.
Last year, Republicans feared a “brokered convention” and a civil war within the rank and file of the party.
Last year, the Democrats could honestly believe they would fully restore their party back to national greatness by taking the White House and gaining in Congress.
And then came Obama.
If this man doesn’t disturb you by now, there is no hope you’ll change anytime soon.
God help this great land of ours.
Obama’s “Big” Crowds: All Jockstrap, No Jock?
The fainting. The swooning. The thunderous applause everywhere he goes. The MSM can’t show us enough of His Rockstarness. For example, here he is after his victory in the North Carolina primary speaking, to a “rousing ovation.”
Check out how many people were actually in the arena.
BACKDROPS. It’s the backdrops stupid. Exactly like George Bush. Stick the fool in front of something to belie the fact that you are looking at an empty suit. Why are democrats falling for this? I will never understand. I am a person without a party. I will never vote for a republican and I can’t vote for Sen. Obama. What a mess.
Comment by Dan R. | 2008-07-19 20:58:49
You should vote for McCain. He may be a Republican, but he’s not an ideologically-bound far right wing Republican. At least he’s had the courage to go against the base of his party on important issues when he felt it was in the best interests of the country to do so. When has Barack Obama ever gone against the far left wing of the Democratic Party … that is, before he won the nomination and suddenly needed to re-invent himself as a “centrist”.
McCain is nobody’s pawn. He will do what he believes to be in the best interests of the country, and if it pisses off the GOP base, then so be it. Any man who endured 5 1/2 years of torture in a North Vietnamese prison isn’t gonna worry about what the far right thinks of him.
Tom Daschle’s second wife is a HUGE lobbyist for the airline industry, among others. She was critically important when the airlines faced ruin after 9-11 for THEIR lax security operations that facilitated the attacks.
The answer is simple; the people pulling Obama strings are pro-war. Step-back and take a look at the larger picture.
“The Obama campaign’s idea of political courage is to run it up a flagpole and see what they can get away with. Then when it doesn’t work, pretend they weren’t really trying to do it in the first place.”
What a terrific turn of phrase! It so essentially, yet succinctly, captures the essence of Barack Obama as a political figure. The guy has no core convictions whatsoever. I may disagree with liberals, but at least I can respect them if they are consistent and reasoned in their positions. (And no, mindless shit like “Bush lied! People died!” doesn’t qualify.)
What I hate more than anything is a candidate who has sold himself as one thing throughout his political career suddenly trying to re-invent himself to win an election.
