Media Persist In Misstating Maliki’s Views

CNN corrected the record yesterday, as Uppity Woman reported in “Maliki Disputes Report That He Endorses Obama’s Withdrawal Plan“:

[A] spokesman for al-Maliki said his remarks “were misunderstood, mistranslated and not conveyed accurately.”

Government spokesman Ali al-Dabbagh said the possibility of troop withdrawal was based on the continuance of security improvements, echoing statements that the White House made Friday after a meeting between al-Maliki and U.S. President Bush.

The two men “agreed that the goals would be based on continued improving conditions on the ground and not an arbitrary date for withdrawal,” the White House said.

But, Politico.com’s Mike Allen, at Playbook 24/7, writes:

On MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” Andrea Mitchell calls the Maliki endorsement of Obama’s Iraq strategy (semi-retracted after a complaint from the U.S.) “a deliberate attempt to put pressure on George Bush and the White House.”

This assumption by Andrea Mitchell is especially amazing considering that none of the press was allowed to go with Obama to Iraq or Afghanistan:

Obama doesn’t have press traveling on his government-arranged Iraq/Afghanistan trip. He’ll be joined in the Middle East by a plane of staff and press that took off LAST NIGHT [July 20, 2008] from Chicago.

Once again, the Obamedia are interpreting the news for us, rather than presenting the facts and letting us decide what’s true. Rasmussen Reports’ latest polling shows:

A growing percentage of voters also believe that most reporters are trying to help Obama win the election. Forty-nine percent (49%) hold that view while only 14% believe reporters are trying to help McCain. Other data shows that voters tend to think reporters are trying to make both the economy and Iraq seem worse than they really are.

Here’s the video of Andrea Mitchell.

Note the tittering by the Morning Joe hosts as she mentions Maliki’s protests:

Obama visits Iraq for one day and already he is bringing peace to that country. McCain just brings war and destruction. I hope the world does everything to prevent Obama from losing this election. Europe, Asia – from the North Pole to the South, Obama is bringing peace to the world.

Comment by Hope Floats | 2008-07-21 17:39:07

Wrong how? The updates were Maliki’s retraction about a timetable vs. improving ground conditions. He made it clear he was not endorsing a candidate after he got a call from the White House and likely a talking to from his bosses. LIES LIES LIES FROM OBAMA BLOG ARMY.

I wasn’t ignoring the board. I was earning money to pay taxes that goes to supporting slugs like you. Kindly get out of your mind that anyone on this forum is scared of you, pissant.

I hardly call an editorial remark by Andrea Mitchel a “correction”. Maliki’s words are his words. When I see him saying what she is saying, I will let you know.

In the meantime, have you read the news today about Iraq pretty much telling Obama that he’s a candidate not a president, and they make their plans with the people are are in power? No schedules. No Dates. That Obama’s date would be a great wish, but it’s going to be later? And that they didn’t discuss withdrawal with Obama?
“Dabbagh said Maliki did not discuss troop withdrawals with Obama. “Senator Barack Obama is a candidate, and we are talking to the administration which is in power,” said Dabbagh.”

Washington Post, find it yourself, pissant.

Comment by PotVsKtl | 2008-07-21 19:55:49

That’s cute. I just got home from work to find you have crownded yourself the representative of the working class in America. You can see Maliki’s words in the newly released transcript. You refused to react to that transcript in the previous post’s comments section. And now we get this new post which flagantly ignores the new transcript. This has nothing to do with Andrea Mitchell. The “retraction” you’re holding onto despite new developments was issued by CENTCOM. I don’t suppose you’d deny they have a dog in this hunt? Maliki clearly and unequivocally stated a favorable view of a 16th month timeline.

Comment by Hope Floats | 2008-07-21 21:29:58

CENTCOM doesn’t release statements, dufus. You’re lying about Maliki approving a 16 month timetable. He doesn’t have that authority, and it goes against the current administration he is working with. Which is why he issued a retraction last Friday, which comes after your stupid transcript.

There will still be sporadic violence and even spectacular attacks. But I believe that by the end of the year, barring some unexpected setback, even the most ardent war critics will have to admit the obvious: The war is over. We won.

Obama would Surrender American influence in the middle East!

I think we should view any Obama/Maliki 16 month troop reduction
with Great Suspicion!
Maliki leans towards Iran. If given a chance the Iranians along with a complicit Maliki would align themselves together against the United States.

That is exactly what we don’t want to happen!

Obama through his ignorance and arrogance is now taking the bait from Maliki for unilateral surrender.
Obama by showing his hand repeatedly on the 16 month plan for retreat has given our enemies a timetable for victory against America.
All the Iranians have to do is wait another 16 months to control and influence Iraq. We may even see terrorists elected into the Government such as Hezbolah which will complete Osama’s strategy of politically controlling a Sovereign state such as Iraq.

Benchmarks and progress depends on conditions on the ground. Gen Patreous makes the decision on troop reductions based on sustainable security.
Maliki wants us out because he is a shiite who looks to Iran to complete a greater hegemony over the region
Obama if elected will give up Iraq and allow Iran to take control of it.

An Obama victory guarantees a completion of the long sought Iranian Crescent

A McCain victory would guarantee a more balanced government and democracy between Sunni and Shia influences.

Comment by imustprotest | 2008-07-21 16:54:22

I agree Seattle Moss.

Comment by Seattle Moss | 2008-07-21 17:07:05

How can we trust Obama if he is giving the enemy the date for our withdrawal from Iraq.
Obama has said that he will leave Iraq in 16 months regardless of the conditions on the ground.
Iran and Alqueda just need to stay in the wings until we leave.
That’s when a complicit Maliki (Dean/DNC)opens the doors for Iranian and terrorist hegemony over the region.
By then Iran will also have Nukes.

You know the rest!!

It is my hope that legislation will be enacted which will make it unlawful for these so called news shows to do anything other than REPORT the news (someone mentioned today that in England the folks are known as NEWS READERS…doesn’t that make a lot of sense!)and not give their own interpretations (usually wrong). I don’t need some scrawny, big headed anorexic with probably the worst hair style (Andrea, you need to tone down the bright lipstick and get a hair cut that doesn’t make it look like you walked into the propeller of a plane) on television tryng to tell me what to think. When the media assume, as they have, the role of President-maker, they have overstepped a line in the voting process and by telling the public what THEY want us to hear, they are definitely skewing what should be OUR process.

Even Obama supporter, the self described “slug” Sen McCaskill, says its Hillary’s job to unite the party.

So Obama is going to unite the country, bring peace to the middle east, end 2 wars, and reestablish USA’s image abroad but he unable to unite our party.

Who would fire them? They’re taking their orders(because they have no integrity or character)from the execs who are running the “obama show.” I always thought that movie with Jim Carrey was very prophetic about what would happen when everything is controlled by the media, even presidential elections it seems. We are really experiencing firsthand what Marxism and Nazism did with the media to gain power.
But as soon as the nomination is secure they will all change their tune. Andrea Mitchell is one of the worst in following orders and when these networks shell out millions for these soulless robots they expect them to do exactly what they want. Can’t you just hear them ,”Hey, Andrea, hey Katie, you think we’re paying you 35 mil a year to act ethically; now get off your butt and go follow BO around like a lapdog.”

I am sooooo turned off by the press – actually do not watch the evening news anymore – I am older and that has been a tradition since I was very young. Can’t watch it anymore – I can’t trust them. It makes me sick what they are trying to do to us over Barack Obama.

ROFL.

One of the main problems in Afghanistan is that there is not sufficient NATO participation. Obama, failed in his duties as Chair of the Senate’s Subcommittee on European Affairs to increase the number and participation of NATO forces in Afghanistan.

Progress has been made in Iraq DESPITE Obama and his schizophrenic Iraq policy. It is thanks to our soldiers, General Petraeus’ leadership and surge policy (strongly supported by McCain) and the improvement of Iraqi military forces.

It is easy for Obama to pretend to take a position he never had when it gains votes. It took political courage for McCain to support the surge when it was politically unpopular and might have destroyed his chances to become president.

Hillary’s plan for Iraq is the only one that is logical and makes sense to me.

Bush lets the Iraqis set the timeframe. “Do abc..xyz benchmarks, not gonna be real clear on what it means, and then we will leave.”
McCain thinks he can make the Iraqis accomplish abc…xyz by the sheer force of his will.
Hillary- “Get your shit together and get moving NOW on set, agreed upon benchmarks of abc…xyz because we are out of here.”
NObama-”We’re leaving in 16 months, do a or don’t do z. But if x isn’t done the way I like it we may have to come back. ”

Yeah right Barky- that will work real good. Congress will just re-authorize the use of force just because the “Chosen One” screwed-up and needs to set it right.

Barack’s “Need Some Cred” Tour is actually making me feel sorry for the guy. It’s becoming embarrassing for the guy.

In their effort to glorify his every move as some sort of marketing effort they though would make him look more experienced, it is merely highlighting that fact that he doesn’t have a clue. Treating this like W’s photo Ops. Instead of a Bull Horn or Mega phone, we have a B ball.

I feel like school kids. Instead of “see Spot run”…”see Spot bark”. It’s “Barky flies to Europe”….”Barky meets Eropean/ME [real]Leaders”….”See Barky play”.

“Asked today whether, as a former head of state who has a sensitivity about protocol, he has any thoughts about the appropriateness of Obama’s planned events, the former President replied, “A little jealous, is all.”

The former president, who says he’s just returned from a visit to Germany’s Brandenburg gate, added that Obama will “figure it out.”

For more on the stagecraft of Obama’s world tour, tune into Campbell Brown: Election Center tonight at 8 pm ET.”

There has been much hay made from the der Spiegel interview with Iraqi PM Maliki. What is abundantly clear is that Maliki says two things.

One, Iraq wants to establish a LONG TERM Strategic Treaty with the US, AND continue the EXISTING Security Agreement with the US.

Two, MOST of the coalition troops should be removed sooner rather than later, but that depends on circumstances on the ground.

Maliki says that although the 16 month timeframe proposed by Obama would be right, it is possible that it could change, and “Of course, this is by no means an election endorsement.”

In this interview Maliki shows that Iraq is committed to the proposals expressed by McCain. Troops will be withdrawn as the security situation improves, which has improved during the surge. And, there will be a long term presence by the US for security.

McCain and even Bush along with everyone else on the planet want MOST of the troops removed as soon as possible. But, even the Iraqis do not want the US to retreat from Iraq entirely. Obama on the other hand proposes a complete withdrawal.

As to be expected,, the left wing Press at Der Spiegel, and the US Press that pick up the story, run with “MALIKI ENDORSES OBAMA’S PLAN”, and “MALIKI BACKS OBAMA TROOP PULLOUT PLAN” even though Maliki himself emphasizes he is not endorsing Obama, nor Obama’s plan.

Following the left wing press publishing Maliki’s supposed endorsement of the Obama plan, Maliki has tried to correct the false and misleading interpretation of what he said. A spokesman for al-Maliki said his remarks “were misunderstood, mistranslated and not conveyed accurately.”

Government spokesman Ali al-Dabbagh said the possibility of troop withdrawal was based on the continuance of security improvements, echoing statements that the White House made Friday after a meeting between al-Maliki and U.S. President Bush.

Don’t take my word for it. Read the original Der Spiegel transcript below. Maliki clearly says he wants to continue the US Security Agreement, and Troop withdrawal plans are subject to change depending on security circumstances.

SPIEGEL: Germany, after World War II, was also liberated from a tyrant by a US-led coalition. That was 63 years ago, and today there are still American military bases and soldiers in Germany. How do you feel about this model?

Maliki: Iraq can learn from Germany’s experiences, but the situation is not truly comparable. Back then Germany waged a war that changed the world. Today, we in Iraq want to establish a timeframe for the withdrawal of international troops — and it should be short. At the same time, we would like to see the establishment of a long-term strategic treaty with the United States, which would govern the basic aspects of our economic and cultural relations. However, I wish to re-emphasize that our security agreement should remain in effect

SPIEGEL: Would you hazard a prediction as to when most of the US troops will finally leave Iraq?

Maliki: As soon as possible, as far as we’re concerned. U.S. presidential candidate Barack Obama talks about 16 months. That, we think, would be the right timeframe for a withdrawal, with the possibility of slight changes.

There Was No Ringing Endorsement Of Obama’s Plan During Today’s Visit:

Asked specifically if Obama, who has proposed a withdrawal of U.S. combat troops within 16 months, raised the question during the talks, Iraqi spokesman Ali al-Dabbagh told reporters: “This issue, we do not discuss …”

In the topic of a withdrawal timetable, al-Dabbagh told reporters, “We are hoping that in 2010 that combat troops will withdraw from Iraq.” But he added that the government did not endorse a fixed date. He also said any withdrawal plan was subject to change if there is a rise in the level of violence.

That is the McCain Plan which has not changed since Day One.

We stopped counting the changes to Obama’s plan, but expect another one at any moment.

Not only that but washington posts says

Dabbagh said Maliki did not discuss troop withdrawals with Obama. “Senator Barack Obama is a candidate, and we are talking to the administration which is in power,” said Dabbagh.

Good Ole Plastic Jesus.

That’s where Hopey Changey comes in.

Did you see his answer when they asked him that since the surge is working, did he make a mistake when he voted against it?

Uhhhhhhhh ahhhhhhhhhh…I just didn’t like what bush was doing at the time.

Speaking of the MSM being in bed with Obama, the NYT refused to print McCain’s response to an op-ed from Obama. The editor gave a feeble excuse for not printing McCain’s piece.

You can read McCain’s article at:

That’s why I completely stopped reading the NY Times. They have fallen so far so fast. It started with the run up to the war, and it’s been all downhill since then.

“The Obama Show” reminds me of the “Good Times” show from the ’70’s. Obama sounds just like JJ, working one scam or another, and so on.

Obama even comes complete with patented catchphrases like “Fired Up” “Ready to Go”, just like JJ’s “Dyn-o-mite!”.

With Obama’s ratings going down faster than the hotdogs in Nathan’s July 4th contest, His show is certain to be cancelled.

Yea, and I take him as seriously as I would JJ running for president.

I saw some of those on your site Uppity. They are belly laugh out loud funny.

The New Yorker was great, but these are truly inspiring.

I can’t vote for a favorite, I love all of them. Especially Katie giving an “Obama Face Scratch Bird”!

According to ABC news:

“After meeting with top U.S. military commanders and members of the Iraqi government, Sen. Barack Obama today said his opposition to the surge and support for a firm timetable for the withdrawal of troops hasn’t changed.”

He still opposes the surge! WTF???

I quit watching the news. They are fools. All in the tank for Obama. Can’t believe a word that comes out. I now turn just to Fox News and Larry Sinclair.

When Barack and Michelle apologize in heartfelt sincerity to the Clintons for their relentless sexism, racism, arrogance, and presumptuousness.

[...] Media Persist In Misstating Maliki’s Views (by SusanUnPC at No Quarter) CNN corrected the record yesterday, as Uppity Woman reported in “Maliki Disputes Report That He Endorses Obama’s Withdrawal Plan“: “[A] spokesman for al-Maliki said his remarks ‘were misunderstood, mistranslated and not conveyed accurately.’” But, Politico.com’s Mike Allen, at Playbook 24/7, writes: “On MSNBC’s ‘Morning Joe,’ Andrea Mitchell calls the Maliki endorsement of Obama’s Iraq strategy (semi-retracted after a complaint from the U.S.) ‘a deliberate attempt to put pressure on George Bush and the White House.’”… Once again, the Obamedia are interpreting the news for us, rather than presenting the facts and letting us decide what’s true. However, the New York Sun reports that not only did Maliki purposely support Obama’s timetable, the support was instigated by the Iraqi who did the most to get us into the Iraq War in the first place, Ahmad Chalabi.  Is it just a coincidence that one of Obama’s supporters was another Iraqi, a billionaire friend of convicted briber and Obama supporter Tony Rezko, named Nadhmi Auchi?
