[...] David Gergen on the Maliki “Leak” (by SusanUnPC at No Quarter) “…Barack Obama made the first mistake of his trip, in my judgment, in releasing a statement in which he said exactly what Maliki had said in those conversations. We have a long tradition in this country that we only have one president at a time. He’s the commander in chief and the negotiator in chief. I cannot remember a campaign which a rival seeking the presidency has been in a position negotiating a war that’s under way with another party outside the country.” – David Gergen, CNN’s AC 360, July 21, 2008 But you see, it’s all about winning. It’s all about managing perceptions. Protocol be damned. The security of Iraqis be damned. And by the way, Gergen is wrong about previous candidates for president not negotiating with foreign leaders prior to being elected. The ones who have done it before this, that we know of, were Republicans—Richard Nixon and Ronald Reagan. Both of whom Gergen worked for. Funny they should slip his mind. [...]

I'd love Olympia Snowe as McCain's VP, but no one else seems to be thinking along these lines. But as for accomplished females and moderates, there's no better choice. I don't like Romney, Giuliani or Huckabee.

I wrote a letter to the NY Times because Obama wrote an NYT Op-Ed about the Iraq War about a week before he went. I was bothered by the fact that he would write his position on Iraq before be went and thought his words would be much more effective if he had written that Op-Ed after his trip. Obama is a man that gets his ideas from selective reading and listening to others but not from experience, which is dangerous. Bush Jr. was like that and he got us into a lot of trouble. I think it will take more than one PR trip to the Middle East before Obama can understand the scope of what the issues are. We need to demand far more of Obama than we did of Bush if we want to avoid the same pitfalls. They both lack(ed) accomplishments and experience to qualify as president. We should not make the same mistake twice. The media is favoring Obama the same way they favored Bush. We need to expect more from our politicians and our media.

I believe this statement of lorelynn's:

well, I do remember a time when a campaign negotiated the release of hostages held by a hostile government.

Was referring to the hostages taken by the Iranians during the Carter years. Carter had negotiated their release. However, Reagan/Bush I campaign negotiated a secret deal behind Carters back. So the hostages were held for another 3 months, until Reagan was sworn in.

He is not right--his actions are inconsistent. Think part might be his messing with his nicotine habit, or whatever condition makes his lips and gums so blue like chronic O2 deficiency. His gaffes usually come from inserting the wrong words (facts are words) into a sort of pat speech that doesn't say too much. And if they are Freudian slips, hmm. This one about ethnic cleansing, for instance:

Megalomania? or may be he knows that he's going to be the prez. He knows this because of his "friends". Friends that are helping him a lot. I think this is the big, big problem. Like he told to Rendell "you know I'm going to be the nominee"

Good lord, that must mean that Ohio is racist!!!!!!

I seem to remember a time when Nixon (a true megalomaniac) designed new, gawdy uniforms for the house military (I don't remember what their official designated name is) and boy, was he shot down in a red hot minute. Seems he also want a special trumpet fanfare when he entered.
Obama is touched by the same grandiose insanity! Nero, anyone?

I don't care for Bush and his gang at all but the fact remains he is POTUS and NOT OBAMA. Once again Obama goes around acting grandiose with absolutely no legitimate authority to do so (while Hillary is in the senate fighting for women's reproductive rights). It is unbelieveable that a presumptive nominee for a political party can be galavanting around the nation and world acting like he is POTUS and the media somehow thinking this is appropriate. Obviously Obama and the media lack the basic knowledge of what it means to be part of a democratic country where you have one president. The narcissism of this man never ceases to amaze me and I am not a scholar of political science. I am just an average American voter who is shocked at the arrogance I see in this young man who has little on his resume that qualifies him for senator no less POTUS. Looking forward to tomorrow's arrogant behavior as always.
