President Obama, if that’s our future, and his team of symbolic analysts will find out soon enough there are realities out there which none of his contrivances are going to be able to help him handle.

I love the mocking tone of that ad. The more barky and his followers insist that he CANNOT, MUST NOT, be mocked, made fun of, ridiculed, the more I hope republicans do exactly that – incessantly. I mean, they have so much ammunition!

Village here, valley there, region, province: Afghanistan is a tribal landscape where troops move in and enemy fighters leave. Combat there is whack-a-mole on a country-wide basis. There aren’t enough forces in country to cover all the territory, Pakistan offers a “sanctuary” for the enemy, and consensus is therefore building on the U.S. side for a “surge”.

The danger here is that 10,000 more troops, which is what is being discussed, won’t make a bit of difference. So that just gets the ball rolling for 10,000 more and then more and pretty much indeed you have Vietnam.

And I’d add this: There isn’t just one “sanctuary.” The Taliban and al-Qaeda are not merely springing from Pakistan. The Pakistan border areas provide a bit of a sanctuary. But there is also Iran and a trio of unreliable “-stans”.
What is not needed in Afghanistan is more than more boots on the ground. If Obama wants to go back to fundamentals, before the Iraq war diluted and intensified the “war” against terrorism, he needs to shift the battle from conventional forces back to a quiet and focused effort: special operations supported by airpower and intelligence going after international terrorists.

Sure, sufficient combat troops are needed to train the Afghan national forces, but the rotation of brigades here and there into this rural, tribal, treacherous country is not the way to go. So Obama was right on Iraq but he is completely wrong on Afghanistan.

How was Obama right on Iraq?

He gave a speech, that no-one can remember attending by the way, and he did what others in Politically safe district wee doing…Questioning the war! that took no Courage and he is not unique in his supposed outrage at the war!

Remember, when he got to the Senate…He voted in every way for the continuation for the war! He Never showed any back bone! This is all a media “Fairy Tale” as Bill Clinton so rightly opined before being called a RACIST!

Love that ad. Voice is PERFECT to get the point across. It’s got a smile, it’s warm, it’s engaging. Almost makes you feel like an idiot if you don’t recognize the fact that Barack has been speaking out of both sides of his mouth.

If this is the best the conservatives can come up with… I am underwhelmed. So politicians lie sometimes. Wow! What a discovery. I hope you are as up in flames about George W.’s lies about Iraq, WMDs and a thousand other things. And stop quoting McCain’s war hero status. If you honestly believe that being shot down with your plane and being imprisoned for years is a good basis for being president of the United States – the terrorists have already won.
