Jake Tapper’s story today is Obama On Tonight’s Berlin Speech: “A Crapshoot”. Last week, the razor-sharp Tapper zeroed in on a story that we’ve covered here at No Quarter many times. Joe Wilson, Larry Johnson and I, as well as other writers, have all noted that Obama has failed to DO HIS JOB as Chair of the Subcommittee on European Affairs (including NATO) — holding no hearings and making no trips to Europe during his tenure as chair because, as he admitted in a primary debate, he’s been too busy running for president:
Senate Foreign Relations Committee Chairman Joe Biden, D-Del., had previously told Meet the Press that "the reason Obama didn’t hold a hearing on NATO, I chair the committee. Every one of those committee hearings are held at full committee."
But today [July 17, 2008] Biden decided to take his defense of Obama one step further, writing to DeMint that there have been plenty of hearings on European Affairs, they’ve just been held at the "full committee level."
"On the particular issue of NATO’s mission in Afghanistan," Biden wrote, "We have held three Full Committee hearings in the last 22 months: one under Senator Lugar’s chairmanship (September 21, 2006: “From Coalition to ISAF Command in Afghanistan: The Purpose and Impact of the Transition”), and two undermine (March 8, 2007: “Afghanistan: Time for a New Strategy?” and January 21, 2008: “Afghanistan: A Plan to Turn the Tide?”). At all three of these hearings, we were fortunate enough to have the expert testimony—in addition to other witnesses, both in and out of government— of former NATO commander and Supreme Allied Commander-Europe, Gen. James R. Jones (USMC, ret.)."
But Biden’s letter brought attention to the fact that Obama did not attend two of those three hearings — and for the third, on March 8, 2007, Obama only asked one question, one unrelated to Afghanistan. …

I was struck by his comment to Fareed Zakaria “You know, the truth is that this was an example where we had some poor phrasing in the speech.” Not “I”, “we”. Nothing like putting part of the blame on someone else. Of course he has chosen a 26 year-old to be his head speech writer so it is no wonder neither one of them knows what they are talking about.

This is the time for McCain to visit (probably has in the past) a military burn unit. I know he has visited the troops many times before but I think he has to rub it in that he’s there for them and BO is too busy taking bows.

Hello everyone,
As you know I am not a very political person. I just wanted to pass along that Senator Obama came to Bagram Afghanistan for about an hour on his visit to ‘The War Zone’. I wanted to share with you what happened.
He got off the plane and got into a bullet proof vehicle, got to the area to meet with the Major General (2 Star) who is the commander here at Bagram.
As the Soldiers where lined up to shake his hand he blew them off and didn’t say a word as he went into the conference room to meet the General. As he finished, the vehicles took him to the ClamShell (pretty much a big top tent that military personnel can play basketball or work out in with weights) so he could take his publicity pictures playing basketball. He again shunned the opportunity to talk to Soldiers to thank them for their service.

Is anyone following this story on congressman Wexler? Apparently the great Florida rep who testified before the rules committee on the solution to Florida representation at the Democratic Convention, does NOT even live in the district nor state he was elected to represent. He is apparently using his in-laws address in Delray Beach as his address. This is from the guy who said we had to follow the ruuullles on primary vote in Florida and not award the delegates to Hillary Clinton. This hypocrite does not even live there! My family does (W.Palm Beach) and they are outraged to have been sand bagged by this fraud.

Heck, unifying REAL progressives/liberals and moderately conservative Democrats. That’s what has amazed me so much about Hillary this campaign. Real progressives/liberals like me supporting Hillary is obvious- she is a true progressive, votes and acts the way she speaks. I was surprised that she garnered as much passionate support from moderately conservative Democrats too, but I guess it’s like my four times great grandfather who was an abolitionist politician from Russelville,Kentucky (an area of the state that split violently during the Civil War- literally brother againist brother) He and his family were essentially refugees in southern Indiana (at the home of a friend) during the war. But after the war the family returned to Russellville and my four times great grandfather became a highly respected man in the community. (He lived as he spoke, and I believe that impressed even those who felt differently.)
Maybe another good thing that has come out of this is that moderately conservative Democrats won’t blanket denounce progressive/liberal people. They know now there is a difference between the elitist fakers like Obama, Kos, the hosts of shows on Air America, Arianna Hoffington, Keith Olbermann, and real progressives like Hillary and we progressives that have backed her.
I have been noting that as well. No other candidate in history, and certainly none of the candidates in this cycle have been described with such similar loathing.
