I knew we could agree!

Until then we have to bridge the gap so that America doesn't end up on the scrap heap of history.

Whoever controls the middle east controls the world.

This is true only so long as we stubbornly hang on to an increasingly problematic petroleum-based energy economy. Once we get away from that, we're free from their control. And we stop funding the very people who are opposing us by sending them the wealth of America in return for their oil.

We would be in an entirely new geopolitical environment. We would be calling the shots again for our own nation.

It's all about our unnecessary energy dependence. All of it.

I love how you respond!
By saying you respectfully disagree with me shows how smart and gracious you are!
I appreciate that!!

I was talking about how people will likely react to ads that rely more on negative spin than on negative fact. John's ads are trying to push a conclusion on people. It works better to present facts that suggest something, and then allow people to draw the conclusion themselves. This is pretty basic stuff.

The increased sophistication I was referring to has to do with the fact that people are less trusting in general now of televised media coverage, political advertising, and internet content. They descriminate better than they did four years ago because they've had four more years of experience with the methodologies of the new media. And certainly with political manipulation.

The McCain ads in question would have played a lot better four years ago. Now the term "swiftboating" is on the tip of everybody's tongue--a verb that didn't even exist four years past.

My guess is we won't see the ads go national because the McCain team will analyze the feedback data and figure this out. Unless he's picked a media team that's still thinking four years in the past, of course.

Tora Bora is old news. Not much there.Osama is long gone in the basement of some ultra rich sheik.
Afganistan is an area that is a no mans land. Has been for a thousand years.
The only thing that can be done is contain the area and hold back the tribes from establishing bases.
Iraq on the other hand means everything. Being in the fertile crescent the civilization goes back to Mesopatania days. Iraq was secular but Stalinist when we decided to conquer it.
Having the 4th largest petroleum reserves in the world and centered right in the middle of all conflicts it really is the center of the war on terrorism.
The war on terrorism will be defined later as the wars for resource control in the world.
Whoever controls the middle east controls the world.
As Iraq becomes a rich democracy allied with the US the fact that the US along with her allies have the influence over the world resources will make Bush look like a Truman.

H.R. 1268, roll call 109--Clinton also voted AYE
H.R. 2419, vote 172--Clinton also voted AYE
S. 1042, roll call 326--Clinton also voted AYE
H.R. 2863, roll call 366--Clinton also voted AYE
H.R. 4939, roll call 103--Clinton also voted AYE
H.R. 4939, roll call 112--Clinton also voted AYE
S. 2766, roll call 174--Clinton also voted AYE
S. 2766, roll call 181--Both Obama and Clinton voted NAY
S. 2766, roll call 183--Clinton also voted AYE
S. 2766, roll call 186--Clinton also voted AYE
H.R. 5631, roll call 239--Clinton also voted AYE

H.R. 1591, roll call 117--Clinton also voted AYE
H.R. 1591, roll call 126--Clinton also voted AYE

So, Senators Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama voted identically on each and every one of the cited roll call votes.

You can confirm any of them using the Congressional Roll Call Database found at this address:

Obviously you have misinterpreted the nature of the cited votes cast by Barack Obama. Either that, or Hillary Clinton is as untrustworty a political chameleon as you believe Barack Obama to be.

30.00 EUR

47.1254 USD

You Europeans smoke your faces off, too. Must be some pretty damn good cigarettes.

In the States, that would buy you a black market handgun, and you could kill yourself faster. You should come over here and take advantage of the exchange rate.

Technically, Obama's subcommittee is European affairs, which indirectly would cover NATO relations, which would in turn lead to discussions of NATO involvement in Afhganistan.

The key here, whether or not you believe the full committee chair, is that Obama didn't even *try* to have any hearing ... ever.

Here are some highlights from a summary of Obama's U.S. Senate voting record by the Creative Youth News Team (CYNT 2007), a progressive African American advocacy organization. The list was actually longer.

"4/21/05: Obama voted for HR 1268, war appropriations in the amount of approximately $81 billion. Much of this funding went to Blackwater USA and Halliburton and disappeared. Roll call 109 "

"7/01/05: Obama voted for H.R. 2419, termed 'The Nuclear Bill' by environmental and peace groups. "9/26/05 & 9/28/05: Obama failed and refused to place a hold on the nomination of John Roberts, a supporter of permanent detention of Americans without trial, and of torture and military tribunals for Guantanamo detainees."

"11/15/05: Obama voted for continued war, again. Roll call 326 was the vote on the Defense Authorization Act (S1042) which kept the war and war profiteering alive, restricted the right of habeas corpus and encouraged terrorism. Pursuant to his pattern, Obama voted for this. ."

"12/21/05: Obama confirmed his support for war by voting for the Conference Report on the Defense Appropriations Act (HR 2863), Roll call 366, which provided more funding to Halliburton and Blackwater. "

"5/2/06: Obama voted for money for more war by voting for cloture on HR 4939, the emergency funding to Halliburton, Blackwater and other war profiteers. Roll call 103 ."

"5/4/06: Obama, again, voted to adopt HR4939: emergency funding to war profiteers. Roll call 112."

"6/15/06: Obama, again, opposed withdrawal of the troops, by voting to table a motion to table a proposed amendment would have required the withdrawal of US. Armed Forces from Iraq and would have urged the convening of an Iraq summit (S Amdt 4269 to S. Amdt 4265 to S2766) Roll Call 174 "

"6/22/06: Obama voted against withdrawing the troops by opposing the Kerry Amendment (S. Amdt 4442 to S 2766) to the National Defense Authorization Act. The amendment, which was rejected, would have brought our troops home. Roll Call 181 "

"6/22/06: Obama voted for cloture (the last effective chance to stop) on the National Defense Authorization Act (S 2766), which provided massive amounts of funding to defense contractors to continue the killing in Iraq. Roll Call 183."

"6/22/06: Obama again voted for continued war by voting to pass the National Defense Authorization Act (S 2766) for continued war funding. Roll Call 186 .

9/7/06: Obama voted to give more money to profiteers for more war (H..R. 5631). Roll Call 239 "

"9/29/06: Obama voted vote for the conference report on more funding for war, HR 5631. Roll Call 261 ."

"11/16/06: Obama voted for nuclear proliferation in voting to pass HR 5682, a bill to exempt the United States-India Nuclear Proliferation Act from requirements of the Atomic Energy Act of 1954. Roll Call 270 ."

"On March 28, 2007 and March 29th, 2007, he voted for cloture and passage of a bill designed to give Bush over $120 billion to continue the occupation for years to come (with a suspendable time table) and inclusive of funding that could be used to launch a war with Iran.
McCain and Lindsay Graham's bill. Webb's passed easily just to shut up the Dems, but McCain was very clear why he chose to campaign Memorial Day weekend instead of vote for this bill.

It looks like they're deleting Whitey Tape comments. Anytime the trolls rickroll and bring up the Whitey Tape, I just post the blurb about what is supposedly said. Look at Samantha Power's book on Rwanda where she lays the blame of the genocide at Clinton's feet. Supposedly MO says the same thing in her rant. Then if she caught the Rev. Wright's speech earlier before she went up on the Women's Panel. If the crowd cheered her on, I could see her having a meltdown. She would feel like going up against Bill Clinton who also attended. If Wright was her "spiritual mentor," too, she would have repeated the theme of redirecting black on black crime toward the white community. She wanted to sound stronger, more credible and align herself with their group's alpha male. Some feminist.

McCain voted against Webb's GI bill, because he favors Lindsay Graham's (his own party) which has transferable benefits and improves retention rates by 19%. Leave it to the Dems to write a shitty bill and bitch about it all summer to try to seem patriotic.

"Don't fall for it." Pfft.

And the person who has advocated for our veterans' receiving proper care at our VA hospitals has been Hillary Clinton. http://www.hillaryclinton.com/news/release/view/?id=1816

John McCain has done his share for our active and retired armed services personnel. To say that Obama has done more in his 143 days in the US Senate before he ran for office compared to McCain's two decade career is ludicrous.
