La Campaña Electoral de los EEUU — An Obama Radio Ad in Español
By Charles Lemos on July 28, 2008 at 10:00 PM in Barack Obama, Hispanic vote, John McCain
The Obama campaign is now running radio ads in Spanish in at least four states: Nevada, Colorado, New Mexico, and Florida as it looks to sustain Obama’s rather substantial lead among Hispanics.
Here’s the Obama’s radio ad in Spanish. Here’s the transcript in English:
Some people have power and connections.
But most of us have to make our own way through life.
This is true even for the man who could become the next President … Barack Obama.
He grew up without a father - raised by his mother with the support of his grandparents.
Obama never forgot his roots ….
He worked with churches to help families get job training and after-school care for their children.
In the State Senate, he passed a law that helped reduce the welfare roles by over 80% by helping families to secure jobs.
And despite the political pressure, Obama has stood with us for immigration reform and spoke out for our veterans.
It’s time we had a President who understands we all deserve a chance to make our own way.
Last week, the Pew Hispanic Center survey found that among Hispanics Obama led McCain by more than a two to one margin with 66% to McCain’s 23%. It’s a surprising turnaround for Obama who fared poorly among Hispanics during the primaries. More from the Dallas Morning News.
Barack Obama has picked up support from nearly all the Hispanic voters who voted for rival Hillary Clinton in the Democratic primaries, giving him a nearly three-to-one lead over Republican John McCain among Hispanics, a poll released Thursday shows.
The Pew Hispanic Center survey found Obama with 66 percent of the Hispanic vote to McCain’s 23 percent.
The results represent a “sharp reversal” in Obama’s fortunes from the primaries, when he lost the Latino vote to Clinton by nearly two-to-one, prompting speculation that Hispanics were leery of voting for a black candidate, said Susan Minushkin, the center’s deputy director.
Instead, the survey found that three times as many respondents said that being black would help Obama with Latino voters. A majority – 53 percent – said his race would make no difference to Latino voters.
More than 76 percent of Hispanics who said they voted for Clinton now say they’re leaning toward voting for Obama, while just 8 percent said they were leaning toward McCain.
The poll by the nonpartisan research organization is based on a telephone survey of 2,015 Hispanics, 892 of whom were registered voters. Interviews in either English or Spanish were conducted June 9 through July 13. The survey carries a margin of error of 4.4 percentage points.
The poll comes as both campaigns seek to woo Hispanic voters. McCain has been advertising for six weeks on Spanish radio in Florida, Colorado, New Mexico and Nevada, four battleground states with sizeable Hispanic populations. Obama’s campaign Wednesday unveiled its first Spanish-language ad in Florida.
Both candidates also have appeared before Hispanic groups to pledge support for a path to citizenship for illegal immigrants. But McCain has faced a steep climb: Critics have accused him of softening his support for his own immigration legislation during the GOP primaries, when his support for immigration reform threatened to derail his candidacy.
The poll suggests that the GOP brand is sinking with Latinos, even as it suggests that immigration isn’t a driving factor for the Hispanic electorate.
Perhaps most troubling for the GOP, the center said it found that since 2006 Latino voters have moved “sharply” into the Democratic column, “reversing a pro-GOP tide that had been evident among Latinos earlier in the decade.”
“More than half all Latino voters say that Obama is better for Hispanics,” Minushkin said.
According to the poll, 65 percent of Latino registered voters now say they identify with or lean toward the Democratic Party, compared with 26 percent who identify or lean toward the Republican Party.
The center said the shift “appears driven in part by an overall dissatisfaction with the state of the country – 70 percent of Latino registered voters say the country is going in the wrong direction.”
According to the poll, top issues were education, the cost of living, jobs and health care. Fewer Hispanics rated crime, the war in Iraq or immigration as priorities.
My sense is that it is economic issues that is driving the Hispanic vote. There is even a chance that McCain may have to defend Arizona which has the nation’s fastest growing Hispanic population averaging 12% over the past decade. Hispanics now constitute about a fifth of Arizonans. The question is how many are citizens and how many vote.
From my blog, By The Fault.

I am still of the opinion that the animosity between the black and hispanics will be reflected in the voting booth.
Those polls are rigged in my humble opinion IMHO.
Hispanics won’t fall for his balony.
Quite frankly, I don’t believe these polls. I think it’s all a bunch of propaganda to get Hispanics to vote for him.
That was my immediate thought as I was reading. The polls are rigged. Also, less than half of the voters polled were registered to vote. I live in an area with 50%+ Hispanic population. My neighbors are not voting for Obama. It isn’t even close.
Where is Larry Sinclair’s website. Did they shut him down again? I believe that man as the Obama people are working so hard to keep him shut up!!! Keep going Larry!!!

I thought McCain had a really good relationship with the Hispanic community.
But Obama didn’t grow up poor. His father was a Kenyan official in the government. Thanks to his stepfather, he attended a good school in Indonesia for kids whose parents had money or political position.
His grandparents had money. He went to a private school.
I think whomever wrote this ad was sold a bill of goods.
They make it sound as though he grew up a poor black child in an inner city of America.
Visiting vets during a campaign is not the same as sticking up for them in the real world.
I think this is why Obama is ignoring PUMAs and women over 40. He’s got the Hispanic vote.
Sigh.
I don’t consider attending a private school in Hawaii “growing up poor either.” Unfortunately the ad is factually true, but misleading.
It just wouldn’t fit the narrative to mention his bank exec grandmother or oil exec step-dad.
Larry or Susan: Can someone check this out? L. Sinclair site suddenly does NOT exist- after his blog report last night of a DIRECT HIT put out on his life by the (self described) niece of Sen Bidden, who said she has plenty of “friends in high places.” He showed the quote and location of her looking for someone to “get rid of” him permanently.
LS indicated he filed a police complaint for the overt threat on his life. That was his last post - in which he also stated that the state that filed warrant which got him dragged out of press conference have YET to state what the charges even are against him.
This is SO BLATANT. Wish him well.
I see that Obama is a serial liar in Spanish as well as in English.
Hispanics in SoCal do NOT reflect the trend you write about. Not at all. They seem him as anti-value all the way.
Let us hope so.
You notice he isn’t playing the ad in Cal.
His first ad of the post-primary season puffs up his legislative accomplishments.
The ad talks about laws that Obama “passed,” but in fact, he sponsored only one of the three bills mentioned and cosponsored another. The third included provisions from some bills he’d sponsored earlier, but his name wasn’t attached to the one that passed. And two of the three laws were accomplishments of the Illinois Legislature, not the U.S. Senate.
……………………..
Translate that!
No congressperson can pass a bill. Bills are passed by a majority of votes. Everyone knows this. When a congressperson (be it Obama, McCain, or Clinton) says they passed a bill, they are taking a bit of a liberty and really should they they “helped pass” the bill. But it has been going on for 100 years, so to just point out when Obama does it and not mention when every other member of congress does it is not too meaningful. Heck McCain has taken credit for bills that he actually voted against. Now that is a real stretch.
Gee, that’s odd, bo’s people make Hillary responsible for the whole war. You mean she wasn’t the only one voting? OMG.
Breaking News Threadjack:
Obama’s campaign was just busted for leaking the western wall note… oh, it’s just toooo sweet.
Is Anything Sacred?
Israeli newspaper Ma’ariv was lambasted for printing the note that Obama placed in the Western Wall, allegedly stolen by a Yeshiva student. “Notes which are placed in the Western Wall are between the person and his Maker; Heaven forbid that one should read them or use them in any way,” said the Chief Rabbi of the Western Wall. “This sacrilegious action deserves sharp condemnation and represents a desecration of the holy site.”
But according to a statement from Ma’arivyesterday, the paper alleges that the Obama campaign actually leaked the note to reporters before Obama even placed it in the wall.* Yediot Aharonot, Israel’s most popular daily, claims to have also received a copy of the note in advance but decided not to print it.* As a Ma’ariv spokesman told the Jerusalem Post:
Barack Obama’s note was approved for publication in the international media even before he put in the Kotel [Western Wall], a short time after he wrote it at the King David Hotel in Jerusalem.
The Obama campaign is denying the note was “approved for publication.” At this point, it’s their word against that of the two Israeli papers. Obama may be above politicizing our troops, but if they did approve the note for publication before he placed it, then I guess he isn’t above politicizing religion”
I read a post that Haaretz (sp) says the note was leaked. I’m inclined to believe it. They’ve been pretty hard on the Israeli government at times so they’re not sycophants.
This is why the US Constitution forbids a religious test. I’m not anti-religion. But the Founding fathers were right about this.
You would think they would have learned from the Wright debacle. Now Judaism has been dragged into the campaign.
What happened to being a policy wonk? I’d rather have one of those.
Let me take care of my spiritual beliefs (or lack thereof).
I’m surprised he didn’t address the prayer, Dear Dad.
Does anyone know anything about this law that Obama “passed” (I wonder if this is another piece of legislation that was given to Obama)?
http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/statements/538/
All I know is he opposed the 1996 welfare reform legislation signed by President Clinton. Obama said “I probably would not have supported the federal legislation, because I think it had some problems.”
I don’t believe any of these polls. Just like the msm won’t report the dissent among Democrats, they are rigging the polls. The objective is to make disgruntled voters feel isolated and defeated. Once people feel this way, they give up. The either won’t vote or will vote for 0bama.
Believe me, with all the plans for volunteers, 0bama plans to disenfranchise latino voters on Election Day. They will be intimidated and lied to.
I agree with the above poster, on Election Day many latinos will vote McCain.
mimi — I totally agree. The media are now going to dismiss the PUMA’s and say they won’t be given air time. This according to Savage Politics. They think if no one hears anything but UNITY for Obama they will think they are alone in disliking him. But the fact remains that the Democratic Party is split and the split is being papered over because Obama wants our slavish love. 10 Million Democrats will not vote for Obama. As the snake Obama is if his thin skin offends him –he should just shed it.
The bottom line is - Obama is going to be MORE generous with the Hispanics’ illegal Hispanic buddies/relatives give them (illegal aliens) drivers licenses BEFORE legalizing them, but McCain doesn’t; McCain wants borders security FIRST, then deal with their ‘legal’ status.
So, uh, who do you think the Hispanics will favor? It burns me that all the legal or Hispanics who ARE citizens and who can ACTUALLY vote would support someone who caters to those who break our laws and are here illegally. I’m white and that would be like me saying “I’m gonna vote for so and so ’cause he’s going to give amnesty to the illegal aliens who are here from (white) European countries.”
Why don’t any of the candidates cater to us WHITE, AMERICAN-EUROPEAN CITZENS?
I can tell you that I live in an area wher 98% of the vote went to HRC. This is a predominantly MA community. It is not about O, it is about what the MA community perceives as the party of the people. After seeing what the party did to HRC, I know what a load of crap the party of the people is selling.
I doubt that NObama will get the Latino vote, they’re a people that have the greatest respect for the military, wait til they hear how Nobama disrespected our wounded solders in Germany. He will not be getting this Latina’s vote or my family and friends.
My Puerto Rican family and neighbors here in Georgia are like rock star groupies with the guy. They love BO and think everything about him is just great. I have given up trying to convince them otherwise. I don’t know about elsewhere, but in Georgia, Obama has the spanish speaking vote wrapped up.
That is only if they hear about his lack of respect for those fighting the war.
I have never seen anything as repugnant as what I have seen O do.
They respect mothers too in my experience working 8 years in East L.A.
You are right…you never ever dis an MA mom. If you do, that is a fight to the death.
I don’t think Latinos give much of a damn, really. The Democratic party is promising a lot of freebies, and they’re too new to not know the party better. They’re sold on UPC and UHC and tuition and blah blah blah. It won’t happen under Obama, but he’s the new cool thing. The media loves him, and most Latinos watch a lot of TV. I’ve lived in a Latino neighborhood in NYC for 5 years, and it’s a very blue sanctuary city. Right now, I’m in Canada, but I’m sure the NYC is gripped with Obamamania. I don’t know if all Latinos will vote like those in NYC, but probably.
John McCain put his Republican neck on the line in 2005 and 2006 by working with Kennedy for immigration reform. Hopefully the Hispanics in this country will remember him with some sense of loyalty, unlike the black community who deserted Hillary Clinton in droves despite her impressive record of always fighting for the rights of minorities and lower income people. I learned a lot about loyalty from my Democrat party this year - will make my vote for John McCain a lot easier since I’m just following the lessons in loyalty taught to me so well by the DNC. PUMA.
This ad was changed from an earlier form using his other father; search for the details.
And, if anyone doesn’t want BHO to be president, this is his weakest issue. Go to one of his campaign appearances, ask him a real question about this issue, and then upload his response to Youtube. BHO isn’t used to being asked real questions, so if you can press him on a real question, he’s probably not going to look too good. There are some questions for him here.
“Never forgot his roots”? His “roots” were an exclusive private school in Hawaii, and well-to-do white grandparents who indulged his whims. His mother dumped him to go off and live with her new husband.
What does community organizing in the south side of Chicago have to do with his roots? What utter bullshit!
If this poll is accurate, it places the level of Latino support for Obama at about the same level as it was for Al Gore in 2000.
As far as Obama doing anything that helped families to secure jobs, in January, 2006, one year after Obama left the Illinois Senate, 24,500 people were allowed to apply for 325 jobs in Evergreen Park, a suburb that is just a few miles to the southwest of his old state district. There may have been thousands more who weren’t given applications. This does not exactly support his claim about putting people to work.

Latino voters will vote for the democrat whomever that is. And Obama knows that if he plays the brown race card appealing to what motivates Latinos (immigration) he will get the vote. Obama lost the Latino vote to Hillary (got his culo kicked) in the primaries and, tried to win votes with the drivers license issue. Beyond that His only connection to lationos his worn out and overplayed use of Si Se Puede!
Don’t forget Patti Solis Doyle.
I’m one of those Americans who can only say merci becoupe, danke, mi casa si casa (even if I can’t spell them), but if I could speak Spanish, I’d put out an ad pointing out the lies. Wish the RNC would get on the ball.
BTW, did anyone hear BO say merci bocoupe when he gave his French speech. I thought I heard his speech in Germany and in France in English, or did the media give us a translated version?
Obama is not AA to the Mexican American community. He is biracial. Perceived as such, he does not carry the prejudice/stigma that would threaten his candidacy if he were seen as AA.
Money moves media in MA circles. He has enough to lie thru November. Typically MAs are Democratic Party voters. They perceive GOP as rich and elite. The DNC is painting O to be from a poor family. Education came as an opportunity to a down trodden child who exhibited great brilliance in school.
Lots of crap that the MA community is swallowing. As I heard it at caucus, a fellow MA yelled “George Lopez is for Obama!”
I almost threw up. This woman is my neighbor. She works in the educational system. She is mid 40s but perceives herself to be held back by the gringo establishment.
I see this as a bad dream that I cannot wake from.
Georgia will vote RED
I don’t buy it. Most of my Hispanic friends are NOT voting for Obama. They were for Hillary. They feel that Obama stole the election and that he is not qualified.
McCain will win AZ.
Obama is sinking, not rising.
PUMA
I get the same thing from my Latino friends.
PERSONALLY I DON’T KNOW OF ANY HISPANIC VOTING FOR THE VILLAGE IDIOT. TEXAS WILL GO MCCAIN. MISS YOU HILLARY
I pray that Texas MAs go against Obama. The reality is that the large cities are buying into him. Austin is particularly sickening.
By now, any informed, concerned American knows enough about Obama to realize he’s bad news. Please read the following article (it’s part of a new series)
at Investor’s Business Daily. O’s agenda for our country, in a nutshell:

Unless you’re a third-generation welfare recipient, this article should anger
and frighten you. Why work your ass off to get somewhere … is this what we
end up with?
Hispanics in California do not want a black president. I know that sounds racist, but that’s the reality!
