What’s Wrong With You Bitter White People?

Barack doesn’t have much faith in you. He doesn’t think you’ll “get it.” Maureen Dowd asked him:

I asked how his “Citizen of the World” tour will go down in Steubenville, Ohio.

“There will probably be some backlash,” he said. “I’m a big believer that if something’s good then there’s a bad to it, and vice versa…”

Backlash? What in the hell does he mean?

That we’ll grouse about him spending time overseas?

No. What we complain about is, to quote a McCain press release:

  • Barack Obama’s record of not calling a single oversight hearing on NATO’s mission in Afghanistan
  • not visiting in Iraq for over 900 days
  • not supporting our troops when he voted against critical funding in 2007 and
  • not visiting our wounded troops in Germany when he made time to go to the gym but cancelled trips to Ramstein and Landstuhl.

Not only does Obama flat out not know enough about international politics, he doesn’t know enough about the U.S. military.

As Larry Johnson said last night on the John Batchelor radio show (podcast), it’s doubtful that Obama even knows the ranks in the military.

McCain’s TV ad also says it well:

Anncr: Barack Obama never held a single Senate hearing on Afghanistan.

He hadn’t been to Iraq in years.

He voted against funding our troops.

And now, he made time to go to the gym, but cancelled a visit with wounded troops.

Seems the Pentagon wouldn’t allow him to bring cameras.

John McCain is always there for our troops.

McCain. Country first.

Now, if Hillary is our nominee, the Republicans will not be able to use ANY of these arguments against her.

That is why over 30 flag officers endorsed Hillary Clinton.

I am reprinting my story, “34 Flag Officers and the Out Of Iraq Caucus Support Hillary Clinton“:

It is highly significant that both elected anti-war activists and 34 top flag officers support Hillary Clinton to be our next Commander in Chief:

[VIDEO: Some of the 34 flag officers who support Sen. Clinton. TRANSCRIPT below.]
From the Out of Iraq Caucus:
”As firm opponents of the Iraq war, we believe there is no higher priority for the next President of the United States than ending this war, and we believe there is no one better prepared and more committed to bringing this war to a responsible conclusion than Hillary Clinton. The best way to honor the sacrifices of our brave young men and women in uniform is to bring them home.

From the caucus: “We support Hillary Clinton because she is the candidate with the stature, strength, and experience needed to end this war as quickly and responsibly as possible.” … (Read all below.)

Who signed this letter today? These elected Iraq war opponents:

Del. Donna Christian-Christensen (D-VI)
Rep. Yvette Clarke (D-NY)
Rep. Maurice Hinchey (D-NY)
Rep. Sheila Jackson-Lee (D-TX)
Rep. Carolyn Maloney (D-NY)
Rep. Jim McGovern (D-MA)
Rep. Richard Neal (D-MA)
Rep. Frank Pallone (D-NJ)
Rep. Lucille Roybal-Allard (D-CA)
Rep. Jose Serrano (D-NY)
Rep. Hilda Solis (D-CA)
Rep. Edolphus Towns (D-NY)
Rep. Stephanie Tubbs Jones (D-OH)
Rep. Maxine Waters (D-CA)
Rep. Diane Watson (D-CA)
Rep. Lynn Woolsey (D-CA)

Hillary has put forward the most comprehensive plan for bringing our troops home, with troop withdrawals beginning within 60 days of taking office. She bravely pressed the Pentagon to begin planning for the withdrawal of our troops from Iraq. And she has introduced legislation to bar the Bush administration from unilaterally negotiating a long-term security agreement with the Iraqi government and thereby tying the hands of the next administration.

Hillary’s commitment to ending this war is matched by her experience. Her knowledge of the armed forces, her service on the Senate Armed Services Committee, and her extraordinary efforts on behalf of our veterans have earned her the respect of our men and women in uniform.

We are proud to support her because we know that she is the candidate ready to bring our troops home.

TRANSCRIPT OF THE NEW CAMPAIGN VIDEO:

Hillary for President

Admirals and Generals

(Ret) Rear Admiral David Stone: There’s a large group of retired Admirals and Generals that believe that this is the most important election in their lifetime…

[Screen: 34 retired Generals and Admirals including two chairmen of the Joint Chiefs of Staff endorse Hillary Clinton]

…We face growing threats around the globe. Sen. Clinton is the candidate that we believe is the strongest, most experienced leader.

(Ret.) Lt. General Joe Ballard:

She has spent time in discussions with foreign governments and has spent time on the ground with military in Iraq and Afghanistan .

(Ret.) Brigadier General Evelyn “Pat” Foote:

The woman has traveled to over eighty countries; she knows this world

D. Stone:

Sen. Clinton has served for over five years on the Senate Armed Services Committee. She’s intimately familiar with the challenges that we face in our military today.

J. Ballard:

Sen. Clinton is the only candidate that has articulated a clear plan for getting us out of Iraq .

(Ret.) General Wesley Clarke:

On Iraq , she has a plan to bring our troops home in a smart, safe way.

(Ret.) Brigadier General Michael Dunn:

I have seen her get legislation passed that provides resources for our combat veterans.

(Ret.) Brigadier General John Watkins:

She took it upon herself to make sure that the National Guard and Reserve members who didn’t have access to TriCare insurance would get access to TriCare.

(Ret.) Major General George Buskirk: Sen. Clinton came out early and often, to fight for upgraded body armor, and you can ask any soldier-you can ask my son-how appreciative they are.

M. Dunn:

I admire charisma, I admire intellect. In a Commander in Chief I want more than that. I want proof. I want a track record.

J. Ballard:

You cannot learn on the job, you have to have a base of experience-a framework of experience.

J. Watkins:

Who do we believe would be the best person to occupy the Oval Office and to answer the red phone, as we said, at 3 o’clock in the morning or three o’clock in the afternoon? We come down on the Sen Hillary’s side of the ledger

W. Clark:

I believe Hillary Clinton is the right choice for America .

Comment by Shainzona | 2008-07-28 18:47:00

Hey, if your daughter will just donate $5 to BO….she might get to (gasp!!) meet him backstage when Hillary gives her acceptance speech!!

“This year, the convention will be built around the participation of ordinary Americans. Democrats like you are opening up the political process like never before, and it is a bold and exciting time for our party.

Free tickets to the convention will be available soon. But if you make a donation in any amount by Thursday, July 31st, you and a guest could be flown to Denver, spend a couple of nights in a hotel, participate in the convention, and then go Backstage with Barack before the big event”

Comment by Brodie | 2008-07-28 22:05:23

Sounds like they copied that idea from Hillary, too- except it was for tickets to see Elton John, meet Hillary & party. That sounded like a MUCH better deal. Who the hell would want to hang out w/Barky?

Comment by Monet | 2008-07-29 05:39:47

Senator Obama is now stealing ideas from the last Rolling Stones contest. If one went to Radio Shack, bought a $5 battery, one would be entered into a contest for seats on stage and visit backstage to have one’s photo taken with the Stones.

Doesn’t his campaign have one original thought or idea? He’ll probably steal from Miley Cyrus/Hannah Montana next and release a 3D version of the Berlin speech and his world tour on dvd, free with a $500 donation. September should bring us an U2 steal, an Obama iPod with a $1500 donation. And in October, $2000 will enter you in a contest to win a pair of tickets to an inaugural ball (one he’ll save for last and never get to IF he’s elected) and a special VIP area to view the swearing in ceremony that will be several blocks away.

Obama’s detractors bitched that he didn’t travel overseas, then when he did, they bitched that he did travel overseas. And when he said some would bitch about it, you bitch about that too.

Note that he didn’t phrase the question to reflect a white working town, the interviewer did. But that’s on Obama too of course.

The overwhelming need to criticize everything Obama does is comical. His sign in Berlin – a dead ringer for a Nazi sign, and then dead ringer for a communist signtoo . Which of course means the Nazi sign was a dead ringer for the communist sign. You couldn’t make this stuff up…

Bitter white folks will not vote for a nominee who wishes defeat on America…Period!

When Obama failed to stand at the state of the union and clap the success of our troops like other patriot Americans that was the moment when I knew that Obama wished defeat and retreat for America

If we had listened to Obama America today would be a defeated humiliated country running with our tails between our legs out of the middle east.
Shame on Obama for wishing defeat on America!!!

Comment by Seattle Moss | 2008-07-28 17:54:34

Did I mention that Hillary stood and clapped the success of our troops even though it cost her votes with the Anti-American wing of the party.

Comment by candymarl | 2008-07-28 18:32:14

Contrary to popular opinion, Hillary is not some rabid war hawk. What she does understand is that in the military you go where you’re sent and you can’t just quit. You can try but you’ll most likely go to jail or prison. A felony conviction by the federal government can really ruin your day.

She understands that by law Generals must follow the orders of the CiC or resign their commission.

She understands that the Generals that were against this debacle in the first place, or who called for a larger invasion force, were simply replaced by those who would go along.

If fewer people are dying in Iraq, and I include Iraqis and not just Americans, that is always a good thing. Hillary also understands that.

That’s what experience can do for you.

Very shameful performance of Obama!!

I believe that it is the smoking gun of how Obama really feels about the United states and Iraq.

Please…Someone get a video slice of that moment which was televised by the networks at the state of the union in 2008 which clearly shows Obama wishing for defeat.

I just checked Gallup about an hour ago, and he’s headed back down again. I guess that’s why AOL took down the story about his big lead.
If he’s the candidate who can “bring Americans together” (as one of his celebrity endorsers said), then why have his poll numbers never gotten out of the 40s? He’s not bringing Americans together. He’s dividing us. It’s just too bad that the mule-headed SDs can’t see it.

Gallup Poll Shows McCain Ahead of Obama 49-45

The shift represents a swing of 10 points in favor of Sen. McCain from last month’s poll, which showed the Republican trailing Obama by 6 points. The poll was conducted over the weekend, on the heels of Sen. Obama’s foreign trip. That trip was designed to show Sen. Obama as a competent manager of foreign policy and national security matters. But controversies marred the ending of the trip and may have contributed to the results of this poll.

If we could get a few good protest showings in the next few weeks and show his UNITY speeches of get over it and get on the bus or else attitude.. If not I’m forced to vote mccain as retaliation along with voting against all who supportted him locally.

Comment by Dr Felter | 2008-07-28 18:02:27

Like many McCain supporters I value HRC highly and consider her in the same category as McCain: patriotic, experienced, competent and Presidential material. She would always try to what is right according to her moral compass and put Country first.

She will only get the nomination if enough SDs change their minds. This is only be achieved by the following things happening:
(1)She will have to be placed in nomination
(2)BO’s poll numbers have to go considerably down.
(3)the SDs will have to see that BO will inevitably lose to McCain.

(2) & (3) can be achieved by hammering two issues home, namely BO birth certificate problem/in-eligibility and the concern about long term effects of his admitted cocaine abuse, as evidenced by his speech, gaffes, stuttering and delusional behaviour.

By “hammering” I mean all the Nobama blogs co-ordinating that they constantly emphasise these issues. Eventually this tidal wave will break down the walls of silence in the MSM

Comment by Dan R. | 2008-07-28 20:00:43

Ain’t gonna happen, Doc. If Hillary were to somehow get the nomination at this late stage, the blacks and hard-core leftists in the Democratic Party will riot. Literally. They will feel that their chance to elect one of their own as president has been “stolen” and they will take to the streets. It would tear the Democratic Party in two and guarantee a McCain win.

The best chance the Democrats have to win back the White House is to stay with Obama.

Yes, Hillary would have been the stronger, better candidate. But it’s too late now.

Comment by pollpatrol | 2008-07-28 20:08:14

Sorry, Dan R. but if the case is that Obama is unelectable they won’t be rioting anywhere. It’s a myth about AA’s – they would vote for Clinton in a heartbeat. The progessives are a hell of a lot less likely to vote for McCain than HRC’s moderate base.

The MSM would start telling the REAL story – that they called the race too soon and it’s not over. They would do it if Obama imploded. They’d have to.

No, if HRC was made the nominee, the Dems would win.

Comment by Slobodaneee | 2008-07-28 21:17:39

Pollpatrol,

I will agree with you that if Clinton were somehow nominated at this stage there would be no riots. That is a myth consistently put forward by some. I disagree with you that AA would fall in line with Hillary. No democrat can win without significant AA support. She won’t have it under these circumstances. PUMA folks would, however, find how the repubs reallly think of Hillary. She would receive the kind of grilling that Obama never gave her. The repubs would then switch from trying to court Hill backers to AA outreach. Fox and the repubs would run stories of how the Democratic party stole it from Obama. Having volunteered during the primary in NC I can say we registered a lot of new voters of all races, as has the campaign generally. I don’t think many of them would come out for Hill. The way to blunt that would be for Obama to come out in full support of Hillary. That could work for some, but for others not so much. There would be an Obam-like PUMA group that would believe that every positive utterance of Clinton by Obama would have been forced and done only so Obama would have a future in democratic politics. Sound familar?

Comment by Seattle Moss | 2008-07-28 21:58:02

Hillary need to stay well away from the disaster which is the democrat party.
They need to go down hard for showing their Anti-American two bit totalitarian socialist thuggery.
Hillary and the Clinton wing can pick up the pieces.
Of course the Republican party is in the process of being Reborn and will become the party of respect, opportunity and a champion against sexism towards women
So maybe the democrat party needs to die!

Comment by Hope Floats | 2008-07-29 00:13:28

I’ve thought about this. It seems the point of the Obama World Tour was to impress the SD’s, so they wouldn’t do anything rash like nominate Hillary. I am not afraid of riots but just depressed voter turnout. The DNC set this up. They have been giving quotes to the media vouching for Obama as the official nominee despite protocol and rules. I think Obama will lose the election, and they knew this. Once again, they served their pockets and not democracy and its guiding principles.

and when the GOP lets loose all the crap they have the facts that were never revealed by our complaint media, then there will be no REAL riot, cause it will be totally justified when he loses the nomination

I think it will happen post Denver when the GOP unloads on him with their oppo

I think Guiliani got sloppy cause what he has on Uhhbama is sooo damaging he was sure hew would win

Ah, a kindred strategist! Thanks Doc!
I agree that there is a pressing need to consolidate forces, come to a common game plan and do this right. Too much energy may be being spent on complaint and not enough on direct action.
It is fun to pull up next to someone with a Barry bumper sticker and yell out, “Obama? Yo Mama!” real loud, but it isn’t efficient to put these chumps down one at a time.
Now, how about some suggestions, people.

I agree. the BC/eligibility issue is the strongest issue we have right now (thanks TD & Judah)…the cocaine issue I think a different approach: of course remind people of overuse of cocaine, but, it is the lying about his past–writing about it in a book but lying about it in applications. Raising issues of security clearances.

The last piece is his obvious ignorance of all matters!

I’m trying to make sense of that statement but Obama sure does seem like someone outside the democratic party that I use to know and belong to.

I never understood what the “change” gimmick was supposed to be about. Apparently it is just a slogan where people fill in the blank for whatever they want changed. Similar to “They can put a man on the Moon but they can’t _____”. Decide what it is you are not happy with and fill in the blank. But voting for Obama will not make it come to fruition.

Wes Clark and WJC were the successful architects of our part in the Bosnia revolution. It was a triumph for our Military and Wes and Bill.
On a related note,
Last Spring when W went to Bosnia, the crowds loved him. All they knew is that America stopped the killing and so anything America must be good.
A that dufus W just lapped it up and thought it was him that they adored.
Heh..
That reminds me of someone.

I live in Colorado and was polled by Quinnipiac (sp?)last week which reported McCain gaining 7 pts from the previous poll to go ahead by 5 pt.

In the part of the State where I live, those numbers would be low for McCain. I think Boulder and Aspen are probably the Obama hotbeds where the rich, educated people live. We clingy, bitter, gun-toting, Bible-toting, pickup driving folks live in the rest of the State.

Maybe that other Kennedy imitation, Gary Hart, talked the Democrats into thinking Obama can win Colorado. Hart, of course, was not a native Coloradan and was probably the main reason I became an independent rather than a Democrat in my younger days. Couldn’t stand the man.

I posted about this over a month ago. Two of my daughters went to the local dem caucus 4 yrs ago. There were, they told me, about ten people there with the end result being they were elected as Chair and Vice-chair.
Now that the stage is set:
The Democratic Party has been phoning my house for three years with “independent polls.” Originally they were directed at the phone number, but once this old dog started letting them know that ‘Marxists is tasty,’ they stopped.
Now and then a “Poll Call” will come in but it is directed to my daughter by name.
Polls are ALWAYS manipulated. Its how they function.
Any poll, before being taken, must define its area of interest, create questions which gather data relevant to the point, categorize the answers, and then process the data.
I am reminded of an old line, “Anybody can lie, but to do it right, you need STATISTICS!”

Something is definitely wrong in ObamaLand. After the International Messiah Tour, with constant, almost adoring, attention from all the major news media, nightly profiles from all the anchors about the inter-galactic “love” that all beings supposedly feel for The One…looks at the polls. Obama has something like a 3-8% edge on John McCain. And the media has been virtually ignoring McCain – and when they do report on him, it is usually something negative. What is going to happen when the Republicans REALLY start going after Obama?

Comment by TexasDarlin | 2008-07-28 18:23:46

Comment by RepublicanChick | 2008-07-28 18:23:44

I am not bitter or white.

Obama’s rise as the presumptive nominee of the Democratic Party saddens me because years and years of allowing race baiters like Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson to run freely without question in this country has finally come home.

Donna Brazile isn’t qualified to wash windows let alone have a position in the DNC leadership.

The black community in this country has proven time and time again that race trumps everything else. I know there are some within the black community that have refused to follow this path, but they have been vilified and called “traitors”.

It is time for minorities to demand change in this country. We cannot wait for someone like Obama, Jesse Jackson, and Al Sharpton to be removed from the bully pulpit. We need action now!

We are only victims of our ancestors plight if we allow ourselves to be used in such a manner. Opportunities knock at the door. You cannot wait for white America to knock on that door and hand it to you. Get off your butt and get the job done.

We need leaders in the minority community that understands the following:

Poverty isn’t just a black or brown thing. Poverty is no respecter of man, color, or creed.

Fathers are an important part of the family unit. I hear many minority leaders profess this loudly from the microphone, but sit on their butts and do nothing. Stating the obvious isn’t going to work unless punishment is enforced. You don’t take care of your kids, you’re going to pay the price. The taxpayers in this country should not have to pay for your reckless abandonment.

Education isn’t a white thing. People of all nationalities in this country are given the opportunity to advance via education. If you choose not to do so, then you have yourself to blame and not white America or the system.

Racism is rampant in the minority community. To turn a blind eye and then yell at whites for perceived racism is not only unfair, but hypocritcal to say the least. You cannot expect tolerance from white America if you aren’t willing to demand it of yourself and those around you.

Blacks are not the only people to have suffered injustices in this country. Read your history books and find out about early immigration in America. Look at what was done to Irish, German, Jews, and other Americans.

Yes, slavery was awful and a terrible tragedy in this country. However, Native Americans were here first and look what happened to them and what continues to happen to them. You aren’t the only ones that suffer.

This country was founded by WASP. When the Declaration of Independence was written, they didn’t have many of us in mind with the words “all men shall be created equal”. Yet, those words are near and dear to me because it establishes that while we’re not perfect—we’re never going to stop trying.

To condemn this nation to someone that does not understand this nation, tells me that some Americans simply don’t care.

America’s Revoluntionary War wasn’t just about our freedom. It outlined what kind of people would walk this great land. We weren’t just fighting invaders—our forefathers were fighting against their own government. The American Revoluntionary War became an inspiration around the world. We were once David and England was Goliath.

We have our imperfections and stains, but we also live in the greatest country in the world.

If Obama doesn’t understand this, then I suggest we send his ass back home to Illinois or to Kenya with his cousin.

Sorry for the long rant.

I’m not sure what white America is supposed to mean. There is so much diversity in white people — more than any on this planet I can think of — they don’t act as a unit or have anyone speaking for them. Blacks, on the other hand, are the least diverse people I can think of. They have a few people who speak for them as if they have no diversity of thought amongst themselves. And the people they choose to speak for them all preach victimology, ie, Jackson, Sharpton, Farrakhan, and Obama. Obama toned himself down only because he is running for president. Blacks hold Wright in esteem since he preaches BLT (victimology) and the one white person they admire is Phleger who preaches it as well. The vast majority of blacks seem to just follow each other in a line.

Yes — that was insightful.

However there is a large gap in opinion that was forged during the 1960s.

On one side there a group represented by MLK and his movement — peace and the understanding that we need to work TOGETHER for racial understanding.

On the other side the Black Liberation/Black Panther/Black Power -> Liberation Theology — represented by the church Obama has attended for 20 years. Remember Obama refused to be part of the MLK memorial — that Clinton and McCain attended. The gang of thugs in this group liberally plays the race card and the victim card and the hate card.

Comment by andySF | 2008-07-28 21:34:04

There is also this problem of the far left that created by keeping them on welfare, Affirmative Action and other social welfare that keep black people down. And they were created by the liberal white who think they can think for blacks(instead of let them think for themselves). That kept the blacks down by getting use to the idea of demanding everything from the government, and earn everything on their own merit. The so call black leaders are only gaming the system for power. They don’t really care for the well being of ordinary black people. They do not wish blacks to be successful, that’s their power base. When black people stand-up, they will be free thinker without their slave mentality.

As Republicanchick put it, every other race in this country had been treated badly in the past. Native Indian had it the worst, and the black had it worst than most. But living in the past can never help one person achieve their potential. And I think the white liberal and self serving black leaders are the one who’s keeping the black people down.

Blacks who live in my area are mostly respected. Because giving the cost of living here(a high end location in San Fran), everyone knows they earn the right to be respected. Well, San Francisco being the best city for minority can’t hurt. But then we have too many liberal(you just can’t have everything I guess). What I am saying is that we have more of a Classes problem than we are with a Race problem in the 21st century.

Poverty isn’t just a black or brown thing. Poverty is no respecter of man, color, or creed.

RepublicanChick, I agree with this statement. I also agree that virtually no group has been free from injustices, Native Americans, Irish, Italians, Asians, Hispanics, etc…But don’t you think that even though poverty is found in all groups, some blacks still have to deal with racism as well as poverty? People will always be judged by their skin color. When this happens in places like school and work, it sends the message that maybe hard work is just not enough.

Comment by andySF | 2008-07-28 21:55:50

Racism will always exist. Although majority of the people in this country aren’t racist, a large portion of them are still some what stereo-type. It’s hard to change the image they see in poor area that are mostly live by minorities. The poor white are facing similar problem being called trailer trash.

When I was in the military, most of my shipmate are from the southern states and white. I have to deal with some of them as well as some blacks who use racial slur and jokes all the time. I don’t tolerate that. I would confront them and stop them front ever using it in front of me again. That did not stop me from making friends and winning respect once they get to know me. They were just fear of the unknown. If you can be easily discouraged by how people judge you, then you aren’t likely to get very far anyway. That’s the job of teachers and parents. How people feel about the color of my skin don’t bother me. And it’s should never be the excuse of any one’s failure. Prove them wrong by hard work and smart thinking is the only way.

Comment by DoroB | 2008-07-28 23:21:25

Wow, thanks for the story. So you don’t think racism will go away? But at least it can decrease.
You’re right. Racism is not the only problem. Calling poor whites “trailer trash” is also wrong. I feel that in some ways racism is worse because a black person can’t change her skin color. But I agree that the color of your skin should not be an excuse for failure. It’s just that some people have to work harder than others to get over it.

Comment by Zeke | 2008-07-28 22:11:54

Darn good point Dora,
Certainly America’s treatment of minorities over its history has its share of shameful occurrences. As Andy (if I recall correctly, Andy) might be able to share, the treatment of American Chinese had its period in the 19th Century where those great people were treated horribly… no better than slaves in the treatment they received. Yet today, American Chinese in California routinely set academic records in the schools there. American Chinese have an industriousness that puts all of us to shame and their positive example of citizenship is exemplary.
There has been, over the past thirty years, a concerted effort on the part of the same types who now are trying to forcefeed us Obama to differentiate us from each other in a divisive fashion.
The appellations of African American, Native American, Italian American, Chinese American, Martian American and every other Blank American has done way more than its share to cause us to hate each other simply because of the ORDER of that appellation.
I hereby propose that we try a little CHANGE!
I propose that from now on, we ALL try to call our brothers and sisters of differing appearance by the NEW appellation of AMERICAN Africans, AMERICAN Mexicans, AMERICAN Chinese and AMERICAN INDIANS as they wish to be called.
This minor change emphasizes our Commonality rather than our differences.
At last it would be possible for WE, THE PEOPLE to treat each other equally due to the simple fact that we ARE ALL THE SAME!
I now cede my soapbox to the next person in line.
Thanks for reading this old dog’s ramblings.

Comment by DoroB | 2008-07-28 23:07:30

Thank you. I thought your ramblings were very inspirational, and your suggestion is interesting and worth thinking about. But why should we just switch the order? Why not just call everyone Americans?
Yes, American Chinese and many other types of Asians are excelling in academics and going to medical schools, engineering, etc…because they have worked and studied hard.
So people look at the American Asians and wonder why the Hispanics and Blacks can’t be the same? Why don’t they just work harder and do better in school? The Chinese did it…
I guess I have a problem with that argument. While Chinese and other Asians work hard, they also have to deal with racism, like every other minority. Maybe the people who succeed can ignore it and move on. This is great, but it doesn’t make racism go away. The same goes for black people then. That’s one reason why I have a problem with Obama. His race-baiting only benefitted himself, while he has no plan to address the real racism in society.
It is good to work hard and not see oneself as a victim, but is that enough to create a more just society? It’s something I’ve been thinking about for a long time, and I don’t know the answer, so I really appreciate your input.

Comment by andySF | 2008-07-28 23:49:33

That’s also one of the things that Obama really p**s me off. He’s camp painted the Clintons as racist, the Clintons who did so much for minorities all their life. He’s action will be more harmful than helpful to black people in general.

Also, I must point out that most Hispanic are hard working people. But we Chinese and Hispanic immigrants had to spend too much time making a living to worry about much of anything else. We Chinese do have an advantage, our strong sense of family. I think this is important to blacks and Hispanics as well. The country have divorce rate of well over 50%. Broken family aren’t good for the nest generation, especially those of poor minority. If look, you will see that traditional Asian family had divorce rate in the single digits. That will help with the up bringing of the minority youth.

Some might think that I am a bit off. I think we should get rid of housing like those in Chicago. It only keep people in bad living condition as well as environment. You will become who you associate with. If you don’t want your kid to use drugs, keep them away from people who sell and use drugs. If you want to study, you hang out with like minded people. My family qualify for public housing when we came to this country 20 years ago, but we never took the help. We(family of 4) rather stay in a studio the side of my current bedroom. The public housing are bad for families. Get them voucher instead.

Also, the Chinese has always believe in education. They had always believe that education is the best way to move up. This had been the tradition of Asian culture for more than 2000 years. Confucius said that only the educated are the most envied.

The government can only enforce law to stop open discrimination. There is no way that though policing can be allowed. So we are let with the choice of either self improve or being left behind(equal). I don’t see racism will be a big problem down the line. The global economy open up the world in front of our eyes. To stay competitive, business owner have no choice but to choose that best candidate for the job. The only thing that I can think of that will do anything, will be special educational help poor children of all color. Like I said, the problem is more classes than races.

Thanks Doro,

I do know that the racial acrimony and distrust I see feeds on itself. I know it will never get better if one group always blames the rules for their plight when everyone else who plays by the rules constantly improves their lives.
Trying to assign blame for its existence now makes no more sense than deciding whether the Catholics in Northern Ireland or the Protestants are the villains.
What it takes, just like the ever improving lives of the great people of Northern Ireland is TRYING!
In a country which has 20,000,000 Illegal people living in it, (because life is better here than anywhere they can go,) it is hard for non-blacks to understand how so many people born with the language and endowed with the citizenship of the nation they would lie cheat and steal to get into, can blame the fact that they live here for all their problems.

Found this interesting article about Obama: “Don’t be conned by globalist Obama”

US presidential candidate Barack Obama’s speech in Berlin last Thursday was labelled by some mainstream media outlets as a rallying call for a ‘New World Order’.

Obama indeed proclaimed himself as a “citizen of the world” and insisted “co-operation among nations is not a choice; it is the one way, the only way, to protect our common security and advance our common humanity”.

Harmless rhetoric, someone ignorant of the significance of a ‘New World Order’ “might assume”. But a reading of George Orwell’s ‘1984′ or Aldous Huxley’s ‘Brave New World’ would quickly bring one up to speed on the type of world people like Obama wish for.

I think that many Americans were offended by Obama acting as though he were already President. He’s making agreements, trying to set policy, making promises to allies and foes. None of which he has the authority to do.

I also think some Americans are tired of being told that they better vote for Obama or else. They’re tired of Obama making absolute statements and then saying he never said that.

Some may be tired of Obama surrogates continuously explaining WORM. They’re tired of the rhetoric and fainting. I think they want actual policy. Which, I think, is why Hillary still beats McCain by a larger margin in the polls.

I’m still wondering why the Corporate owned MSM is pushing so hard for Obama. Corporate America always works in it’s own best interests. Why do they want Obama so badly? They’re not going to promote a candidate that won’t do their bidding. (See GWB)

On the rare occasion the MSM/Corporate Media points these things out some people may be turned off.

I hope people will start making ads comparing and contrasting what Obama said and did on his international tour with what he has said in the past and what he has or has not done. One example that I can think of is his comment that the international community has to help the US in Afghanistan. Take that and fade out to a picture of an empty senate seat and a narrator saying something like “Senator Obama is Chair of the Senate Subcommittee on European Affairs which has oversight of NATO’s role in Afghanistan. Senator Obama did not hold even 1 hearing about NATO’s role in Afghanistan. He never called any of our European allies to discuss their military role in Afghanistan. He never talked to our military leaders in Afghanistan about troop levels….Show the clip of Senator Clinton reminding the public of Senator Obama’s failure to hold a hearing….then have the narrator say something like “It took an election to get Senator Obama to pay attention to Afghanistan. Is this leadership we can count on?”

I cannot bring myself to watch his speeches, but I am sure there are lots of gems that would make great ads. The “my banking committee” moment would make another great ad. Tie that to the fact that he is not a member of the committee, is not an author of the legislation, and did not vote for the legislation he claims credit for. Remind voters this is not the first time he has taken credit for legislation he had nothing or little to do with. “Is this leadership we can trust?”

On NBC news this evening, there was a story regarding McCain’s VP choices and a pundit interviewed for the story said that McCain’s choice needs to appeal to HRC supporters, “who are probably going to determine this election.”

Comment by Dan R. | 2008-07-28 19:44:13

That’s the strongest argument for McCain choosing Gov. Janet Palin of Alaska. However, I think Mitt Romney will, and should, be the choice.

For one thing, Romney knows and understands the economy and the financial markets better than any candidate from either party. This is McCain’s single biggest weakness (aside from the fact that he’s from the same party as George Bush, and nothing can be done to change that)

Also, Romney has a very impressive record of turning around troubled situations and making them work. If McCain were to announce his intention to have Gov. Romney run a special bi-partisan commission to reduce the sprawling US budget deficit, I think that it would be very well-received by voters.

Third, Romney has a ton of personal money and he isn’t shy about spending it.

Finally, he can probably deliver Michigan for McCain, and winning Michigan would give a huge boost to McCain’s chances.

That may not be the best strategy for McCain. Conservatives do not like McCain and they expect McCain to pick someone to appeal to them. McCain on the top of the ticket should be enough to appeal to Clinton supporters who do not want Obama.

I don’t think Jindal is a good pick for VP because he is too inexperienced but I would not dismiss him at this point. Jindal would be a nightmare for the media already in the tank for Obama. The media is hesitant to criticize a non-white like Jindal and would be forced to make a big deal out of him being Indian. Any hint of criticism of Jindal’s inexperience at the VP slot would finally open Obama up to greater criticism at the president slot. Jindal’s intelligence and accomplishments are superior to Obama’s plus he does not have all of the baggage Obama has.

Jindal would become a big distraction to Obama and divert some of the media attention from Obama.

Comment by AnnieO | 2008-07-28 20:13:03

I’m afraid Jindal’s inexperience might give BO some legitimacy as far as the MSM is concerned.

Comment by Obama is a bum | 2008-07-28 20:41:18

I thought that way a few weeks ago but I don’t anymore. The media has essentially been ignoring Obama’s inexperience. If the media decides to make an issue of Jindal’s inexperience at the bottom of the ticket they have to make a bigger issue out of Obama’s inexperience at the top of the ticket. Jindal is ten years younger than Obama but has been more successful in the positions he has held than Obama has. I don’t condone playing the race card but the MSM and voters have decided that race is a big deal and that is how we got Obama. I am suggesting that the Republicans may decide to play this game as well.

I love the old – “If you don’t vote for Obama you’re a racist” line.

It reminds me of those smarmy guys who hit on a woman and if she rejects him, the guys say,”You must be a lesbian.”

Without a prewritten speech and a teleprompter, Obama has the “Umm umm umm, ” habit when asked a direct question.

Every woman who has raised a kid knows what that means – the kid is buying time to put together the most believable lie.

Listen to him — watch his eyes shift while he’s putting his lie together.

And whatever comes after Obama’s “Umm, ummm umm,” is usally a dose of rhetorical double-talk. Which he can slither out of down the road and say, “What I really meant was…”

Comment by mahaska | 2008-07-28 21:00:22

So, vote for McCain this year, and then for Hillary in 2012. She’s still got plenty of time to make another run at the White House, and hopefully she’ll have learned by that time that she needs to organize a whole lot better in the caucus states.

Comment by maniaco | 2008-07-28 19:57:09

to Dan fucking R. :

Just how do you figure that the “…contest is over.”

Based on what, exactly?

And this little gem of yours, “… and you need to accept it.”

Hey, fucker, “accept” some of THIS. {grabs own crotch in a menacing manner]

That’s kind of uncalled for. Dan R is not trashing Hillary but he’s telling the truth. Hillary would have been the strongest Dem candidate.
For whatever reason, the leadership of the Democratic Party didn’t want Hillary.

The leadership will fight tooth and nail at the convention to keep her name out of nomination.

Same as the brilliant Democratic leadership tried to do to FDR.

But those were different times and the Corporate/MSM media did not exist. People still received most of their info from newspapers or radio.

I think when the Democratic convention starts in August it will again be all Obama all the time. The various anchors will report the nomination as a done deal. It’s much harder to fight against an organized propaganda arm like that.

Do I want Hillary to get the nod? Yes. Will she? I don’t know.

Especially from inside those steel cages where Denver ‘authorities’ are planning to put the protestors.

Caucuses need to go.

Comment by alee21 | 2008-07-28 20:20:00

I’m hoping by then there will be no more caucuses.

I can’t believe some states still have such oddities. It’s like the honor and bully code all rolled into one.

Comment by mahaska | 2008-07-28 21:05:51

Everyone I know in Washington state hates them and after this last one with the bullyying and intimidation and outright lying, we need to get rid of them. How do we do that?

Comment by Slobodaneee | 2008-07-28 21:34:16

The caucus system existed before Bill and Hillary and will be around long after they have exited the political scene. That is why Hill, assuming Obama loses, still won’t be president in 2012 or the dem nominee. Her and Bill’s past statements about the caucus system will come back to haunt them and some other democrat will study the rules and use it as Obama did to gain the nomination.

Comment by Zee | 2008-07-29 01:24:05

All these damned nay-sayers.

Nice try.

Apparently you’ve not heard of Bill Nelson’s bill. Or maybe you’re just an anti-democratic schmuck who wants to predict its demise?

michlle obama said in a you tube video that “the black folks will wake up and vote for obama”. Maybe so.
Guess what michelle, the white folks will wake up too and they will NOT vote for obama.
So where does that leave you and Barack Hussain? Your husband in the can, and you still hating America!
Please note that I didn’t even capitalize your names.

Comment by candymarl | 2008-07-28 20:51:22

I think there might be a problem there. Some black folks are waking up to the fact that Obama has done nothing for them. Everything he did in the black community was for his own personal benefit. Rezko anyone? Slumlord. Remember the little black boy that the fence fell on? It killed him. Another slumlord that received public taxpayer money to “improve” public housing.

What was the slumlord’s reply? It was the kids climbing the fence all of the time that made it fall.
This is Chicago mind you. Obama’s response? *crickets*

Those must have been some Hulk-like kids. When several grown men tried to lift the fence to save the child they couldn’t pick it up.

GO PUMA all the way to the voting booth.

I can tell you what the people in Ohio think about the trip…PFFT and the little Ohio church ladies are saying.”Isn’t that special”.

Registered voters prefer Obama, but likely voters prefer McCain. Likely voters tend to be the ones who count since they actually show up at the polls. OOPs

Here’s a “typical white person” honoring the women of Rwanda.

“If wealthy nations want their assistance programs to be effective, they should look to the women who form the backbone of every society. With some education, training, basic rights and empowerment, women will transform a society — and the world.”

I was on Huffpo and saw a post by a European who lectured us that if we do not elect Obama it will “Reflect poorly on the people in the USA.”

Dare I point out that England – which has huge numbers of racial minorities — has a bad record for electing any racial minority to office.

Or how about France (with it large numbers of middle eastern people living in ghettos)– how’s their track record for electing minorties? Nada.

But there’s Obama, cuddling up to the Europeans as a citizen of the world. Bad-mouthing the USA in Europe.

Meanwhile — if he lived in England — he would have no political career thanks to his skin color.

I’m sick of Europe looking down their noses at the USA when they ignore the stench of their own racist attitudes.

And whenever a Brit lectures me about racism in America or America’s racist past, I remind them that slavery was a British innovation which the Brits brought to their colonies throughout the world.

They usually get annoyed at that minor detail.

Comment by What? | 2008-07-28 22:03:13

What’s your point, Susan1968? Are you REALLY suggesting America has a moral leg to stand on when it comes to race? You think that by pointing out racial inequalities in other nations our own evaporates?

What has happened to you people? There’s no longer a discernable difference between this site and Limbaughcafe.com

Comment by andySF | 2008-07-28 22:45:56

Compare to most countries around the world. We are in fact a lot better than most of you give it credit for. Try to live in another country as a minority for a few years. Racial discrimination is not allow in this country!!

There are still a lot of improvement for us, but not by selecting someone as president simply because the color of that person’s skin.

I had friend who I can talk to here in SF. He’s biggest reason is that he think electing a black man will send a message to the rest of the world. But, if Obama ever is a failure as a president, he will prevent another minority from being elected for a long, long time.

You know what’s racist, “What?”

Racist is romanticizing the Magic Negro.

Obama is a FRAUD and whatever color they are, people who think, read and reflect will WAKE UP AND REJECT a stammering narcissist who steals votes, lets elderly constituents freeze, aids his cousin Odinga in his murderous quest for power in Kenya while letting the orphans he promised to help lose their center.

Obama is a walking disaster. Every last thing about him is a lie: his book of “memories” is a load of lies, his supposed distance from Ayers, Wright and Rezko is a load of lies, his antiwar stance is a lie, his no money from lobbyists is a lie, his promise to stand up for constitutional rights and stand against nuclear interests, more lies.

You know, the position of strength is supposed to be “walk softly but carry a big stick” — not “shout and screech nonstop and try to cudgel people with the STRAW argument of Racism.”

The ones setting race relations back are those who think they can sell Obama as the Magic Negro and call the high information voters “racist” because they will never buy the bs.

Comment by Fred C. Dobbs | 2008-07-28 22:45:45

If I gave a flying shit what anyone in Europe thought about American politics, I’d reverse 400+ years of progress and haul my kilt-wearing, pipe-playing, caber-tossing ass BACK to Scotland, from whence my ancestors set sail for The Colonies to raise their sheep, play their pipes, enjoy a wee drop o’ the dew and steal their neighbors’ cows in peace.

FYI, I lived in France for a time. Once they figure out that you put your pants on one leg at a time like them, they treat you like Family.

Slightly retarded, emotionally immature Family, but Family nonetheless.

Only their Chattering Classes dish up that shit, and our Chattering Classes (You know…the ones who can’t say, “The Ramp” relative to the airport…have to say, “Tarmac”? And, “KEEN-yah?”) stand downwind of them, and, like a line of dogs passing a fireplug, imitate the ones in front of them.

Donna Brazile has a stranglehold on the DNC. Everything that she has done since 2003 has led up to Obama getting the nomination. If Hillary pulls off the nomination, we could very well see DB come unglued.

Fabulous article. Hillary was, is and always will be the best choice of the three.

Clearly, if we can’t get her, McCain is a better second any day than Obama.
