AFL-CIO Reminds Us About Obama Rumors

The AFL-CIO endorsed Obama. They have released two mailers. The first mailer is here:

• “Does he wear a flag pin on his lapel? Yes, but not always. Like many presidential candidates, sometimes he wears a flag pin, sometimes he wears a breast cancer awareness pin, sometimes he wears his U.S. Senate membership pin and other times he wears no pin at all.”

• “Is he a Christian? Yes. He is a committed Christian. In 1985, he began working as a community organizer with a Christian church-based group seeking to improve the living conditions in poor Chicago neighborhoods.”

The mailer missed the mark! It reminds of us those rumors, that he is unpatriotic and a Muslim, rather than dispels them. Once again our family, friends and neighbors will be discussing the rumors anew.

Here is the second mailer. Part of this mailer has an older white woman saying “I am voting for the candidate who will fix our health care system.” Today, it was revealed that a health care plan backed by the AFL-CIO and SEIU may derail Obama’s healthcare plan.

And now this on a union backed health care plan is called “guaranteed affordable choice”. More on that:

If SEIU and the AFL-CIO get their way, the day that all Americans have affordable insurance will be pushed into the unforeseeable future.

The labor-backed plan, which they call “guaranteed affordable choice,” would create a public program like Medicare that would allegedly compete with the nation’s 1,500 insurance companies. Americans would get tax-financed subsidies to purchase insurance from either a private insurance company or the public plan. Competition, which has never worked in the health insurance industry, would magically come to life.

By leaving the bloated insurance industry smack in the middle of our health care system, “guaranteed affordable choice” would have taxpayers and premium-payers continuing to spend hundreds of billions of dollars on unnecessary administrative costs.

The other two faces on the mailer show white older males, one a retiree and one still employed. It will evoke memories of the comments spoken in front of wealthy donors in San Francisco. Here are Obama’s exact words:

“You go into some of these small towns in Pennsylvania, and like a lot of small towns in the Midwest, the jobs have been gone now for 25 years and nothing’s replaced them,” Obama said. “And they fell through the Clinton Administration, and the Bush Administration, and each successive administration has said that somehow these communities are gonna regenerate and they have not. And it’s not surprising then they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren’t like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations.”

And of course we will be reminded of Obama’s stance on NAFTA. Or were those just words and he didn’t mean it?

“While Senator Obama was telling voters he would fix NAFTA, his chief economics advisor was telling Canadians that his position was just words.

The AFL-CIO wasted their money and time. The AFL-CIO needs to go back to the drawing board on these mailers! If the mailers evoke these memories in me, what will they do for the union members and the bitter people living in Pennsylvania? All those campaign gaffes during the primaries will haunt Obama’s dream again, while I sleep peacefully at night!

did you guys watch that ‘Leave Obama alone’ video? It’s absolutely hilarious and devastating.
http://hotair.com/archives/2008/07/31/video-leave-obama-alone/

Rush is comparing Obama’s ‘inflating tires’ energy policy to Jimmy Carter’s.

LIMBAUGH: This is Obama yesterday at a campaign event in Springfield, Missouri:
OBAMA: All the oil they’re talking about getting off drilling, if everybody was just inflating their tires and getting regular tune-ups, you could actually save just as much.
LIMBAUGH: This is unbelievable! My friends, this is laughable of course, but it’s stupid! It is stupid! How many of you remember the seventies? When we had these shortages, all through the Jimmy Carter years and we have all these tips, all these tips on how to save gasoline? Avoid jackrabbit starts, keep your tires properly inflated, there’s a list of about ten or twelve these things. I said if I follow each one of these things I’ll have to stop the car every five miles, siphon some fuel out, for all the fuel I’m going to be saving.
This is ridiculous. This is a presidential candidate and he’s talking about keeping your tires inflated and getting regular tune-ups and that would save as much oil as drilling would produce. And this guy is the Democrat presidential nominee. Who has filled his head with this stuff?

I love it! Thanks for posting it….I love John McCain’s response:

“Yesterday, he suggested we put air in our tires to save on gas,” McCain said. “My friends, let’s do that, but do you think that’s enough to break our dependence on Middle Eastern oil? I don’t think so. So I believe that every energy source needs to be part of the solution. We need to develop new alternative energies like wind, solar, tide, biofuels, but we also need to develop more existing energies like nuclear power and clean coal.”

Flag pin? What lies. He didn’t wear during the primaries to appeal to the knee-jerk anti-American wing, now wears it to appeal to the knee-jerk flag wavers.

Your right. These mailers only remind the public more. Either the AFL-CIO is run by red diaper baby lefties out of touch with 99% of America, or they were ordered to do this by Obama.

Obama’s weakness is his fragile identity. His supporters are imbibing it. Huffypost.com is completely unbearable with touchy, indignant outrage.

But Obama has some skills. Obama rolled out the old “they will scare you about me” lines. I must say this, he understands white upper class liberals well. Just the hint of calling his opponent a racist gives the Huffyposters to label their opponents “racists” and thereby praise themselves. Very vain people.

Comment by RunningDogLackey | 2008-07-31 14:48:44

Baloney. No one ever says “boo” about racism on that forum unless some dimwit troll wanders in and starts dropping Amos’n'Andy references.

On the other hand, the PUMA crowd is constantly on the board whining about “sexism” and “misogyny” without ever producing a single example of where and how Obama’s campaign ever made that an issue.

Comment by imustprotest | 2008-07-31 14:50:41

Comment by steven Mather | 2008-07-31 15:00:53

RunningDogLackey is a LIAR, which can be proven by looking at his history of posts. One need only cruise Huffpo archives to disprove his first claim. As to the second claim, we have consistently provided evidence, which he disregards. One need only go to youtube and input “Obama” and “periodically” to see Obama state, “Periodically, when she is feeling down, Senator Clinton tends to lash out as a means of making herself feel better…” Senator Obama is a Harvard educated lawyer. He knows what his words mean, and so do the many people of different backgrounds who see this video.

Further, there are good compilations of sexist tirades against Hillary on youtube. One need only do a tiny bit of searching.

1. You’re so very wrong. They are desperate for any cause to label their opponents racists. More to praise themselves than to label the other.

2. Amos and Andy? That’s ancient. Are you a MoveOn.org-er? They specialize in out of date epithets.

CNBC did a quickie interview with an ETNA rep on the topic of the election today. ETNA & all the other insurers are lickin’ their chops at any thought of mandatory coverage, they tout it’ll stop rapid increases in current policy premimums. Maybe. What about cancellations? What about off sets in obvious tax hikes to fund the millions of uninsured unto the medicare/medicaid rolls? My guess is 1/3 of uninsured are undocumented immigrants. No free lunch here.

I know lots of low income folks don’t have health insurance because they can’t afford it, but about 50% of high earners that don’t get health ins. from their employer will NOT buy their own coverage. I’m talking about people making over $150,000 a year. Then when something happens they don’t pay the cost.

Speaker Pelosi Declares That There is No Evidence of Any Crime by President Bush

JOY BEHAR: You’ve ruled against impeaching George Bush and Dick Cheney, and now Kucinich is trying to pass that. Why do you insist on not impeaching these people, so that the world and America can really see the crimes that they’ve committed?

REP. NANCY PELOSI: Well, I think that it—I think it was important, when I became Speaker—and it’s, by the way, a very important position—President, Vice President, Speaker of the House—I saw it as my responsibility to try to bring a much divided country together to the extent that we could. I thought that impeachment would be divisive for the country.
In terms of what we wanted—set out to do, we wanted to raise the minimum wage, give the biggest increase in veterans benefits to veterans in the seventy-seven-year history, then pass research for stem cell research, all of that. This week, we’re going to pass equal pay for equal work. It has been a long time in coming—pay equity. We’re going to pass legislations for product safety, for toys that children put in their—there’s an agenda that you have to get done. You have to try to do it in a bipartisan way. The President has to sign it.

If somebody had a crime that the President had committed, that would be a different story.

Comment by Jack | 2008-07-31 14:44:20

Comment by RepublicanChick | 2008-07-31 15:06:44

I’ve pondered this impeachment business for awhile. I don’t agree with everything that President Bush does, but I recalled something regarding Nancy Pelosi and President Bush.

Her daughter, Alexandra, traveled with then Governor Bush during the 2000 campaign season and had a lot of access to him. The documentary, although I have never read it, was considered to be extremely favorable to him by those that don’t like him. She won some awards for Journeys with George.

Maybe she has a soft spot for President Bush helping his daughter. Also, political families on both sides of the aisles tend to watch out for each other.

I personally think while some Americans want the impeachment to go forward–it is not true for a lot of Americans. After all, Congressional Democrats aren’t viewed favorably by the majority of Americans to begin with. This could be political suicide for Democrats and with Obama’s current coronation express moving forward—I think they are being very cautious.

Comment by gregoryp | 2008-07-31 16:11:42

At this point the only thing impeachment provides is political clout to the Dems in November. To start these precedings now with only a few months left of the guys term is just about the most cynical political ploy ever. They should have acted on this 2 years ago when they seized power. They may not have had the votes but they had the goodwill of the people. Congress has lost that now and probably forever. Impeaching Bush won’t make things right and won’t get their approval ratings back either. It will probably have the opposite effect so late in the game.

Comment by Tuppence 411 | 2008-07-31 17:37:55

I saw this clip on TV. WTF is with Nancy and her line: “when I became Speaker—and it’s, by the way, a very important position—President, Vice President, Speaker of the House—” She’s a friggin’ ego-manic. No wonder she gets along so well with NObama. I am going to vote for Republican Congress just to get her the hell out of there. She had it out for Hillary, she wants to be the only woman

How about the AFL-CIO’s bit about Obama being a community organizer in a church-based group to improve living conditions? Geez, they’re painting it like he was working in a homeless shelter, when we all know his ‘community organizing’ was nothing more than political posturing right out of the handbook of his favorite socialist friend. Unbelievable. How about the economic justice thing? How many people in this country think that just means to solve our economic problems? Probably a lot. I don’t think people have a clue that’s a term right out of the socialist primer.

Wrong, he takes tons of money from all kinds of lobbyists only he does so in under the table ways.

He takes money from spouses of lobbyists and from tons of corporate bundlers for examples.

He’s done this all along and all the while he’s been outted over and over, even by the MSM. The first major story on his deceit that I recall was back in February or so in one of the Boston dailies.

It was widely reported in USA today a few months ago how he racks up their money while he uses various technicalities to say he doesn’t.

Again, it is the “I do not” outright deception that is the outrageous part of it. He often lies outright, this is an egregious one, for sure.

When he aired his commercial in PA during the primaries about how he doesn’t take lobby money the local papers and radio stations as well as word of mouth got around and everybody knew it was another one of his fairy tales.

Oblowme had the flag taken off his plane in four places to put up his New World corporate logo,

but you’re to think about Pepsi not the Coke he did.

George Washington,
James Monroe,
Andrew Jackson,
William Henry Harrison,
Zachary Taylor,
US Grant,
William McKinley,
Teddy Roosevelt,
Truman,
Eisenhower,
JFK,
Carter and GHW Bush fought for this country.

And Oblowme can’t be bothered with convening his committee on NATO during a war EVEN ONCE.

Yes, there were many freezing nights for George Washington.

And there was punishing heat and pain for Grant.

Then there’s Oblowme - too cool to wear a flag pin.

He alone failed to put his hand over his heart.

Oblowme chose to work for and with anti-American

terrorists and bombers of the Pentagon, police

stations, even a Judge’s home while his family was there -

William Ayers and Bernadine Dohrn of the Weather Underground.

Ayers delighted in being photographed stomping on the flag in photos published as fate would have it on Sept. 11.

Oblowme = patriotism you can’t count on!

The first time I saw that video it packed such a punch, after all this time - it still hits me just as intensely as it did back then. None of the others come close to the wallop that one delivers. It stabs with the true ugliness of this race as well as the sheer joy of her campaign and what she means to us.

As for the AFL-CIO ad, I’m an AFSCME member and it is like dragging the swamp to find somebody in my local that wants to support ob now. We were a sea of green for Hillary and we stood behind her unwaveringly. For us to change gears, after all we were witness to, isn’t going to happen, not overnight, not by November either for almost all of us here, and I’d surmise across the country as well in many locals. Our AFSME magazine this month had our own proposals for a national health care plan since ob’s is inadequate. Our members all have health insurance - it is still in our best interest as Americans that everyone is covered with a plan like ours.

They have supported him, seemingly grudgingly, and they aren’t promoting his plan at all. They compared our own proposed plan (think Hillary’s plan) to McCain’s - not ob’s to McCain’s. I thought that was quite ODD.

Endorse him but not his plan? They did team with moveon to pay for some ob ads though.

Their lack of mention entirely of ob’s health care plan in their employee magazine about him as well as their substitute plan was very telling.

AFL-CIO held back their national endorsement throughout the primaries. AFSCME is an affiliate under AFL-CIO.

They are willing to get over it and get in line. I’m not.

About lobbyists, Moveon is a lobbying group and Soros is a huge lobbyist.
He controls most of the dems in the congress, house, and senate.
That is another reason i had to leave the party after the primarys. These guys are all just puppets.

Also, if you really think Hillary is going to destroy the convention and be a key factor in derailing Obama’s bid for POTUS. You are mistaken and not thinking reasonably.
This is not her time, sad yes.
As long as we make sure Obama loses 2012 can be.
You are holding onto a dream if you think she can still get nominated. And if you think Obama voters will vote for her if she does that.
She will not be the spoiler. And honestly she would not win if she did.
If she wanted a shot after the primarys she should have ran indy.
Stop holding your breath, and hold your nose for McCain.

Comment by gregoryp | 2008-07-31 16:40:44

She will be to old in 2012.

The DNC will find another reason to sabotage her. If not this year then probably never. She was by far the best candidate.

There will always be someone new, young, fresh exciting for the DNC elite to get worked up over.

She isn’t a corporate candidate like we were told early in the primaries. She is actually interested in helping the people of this country improve our lives.

Those are 4 very good reasons that Hillary won’t be running or nominated in 2012. Personally, I think this pretty much slams the door shut on all future female candidates from the democratic party and maybe all anglo candidates as well. When you can’t nominate the overwhelmingly best candidate for a guy who is in my opinion the worst candidate ever. Then she will never have an opportunity. Never. It is like when you work at a job and are by far the best candidate for promotion and continually get passed over for less qualified flunkies who have no chance to do well you have to get the message and go and get a job somewhere else. Hillary needs to switch parties in the worst way and it needs to be yesterday.

Why aren’t the unions still promoting Edwards to be the VP? They deserted Hillary for Edwards and then switched to Obama. They don’t want any fix to health care unless joining their union and paying them dues will have an advantage. They don’t care about benefits except they want theirs to be better to get the dues. They have turned into one more special interest claiming to work for us but feather their own bed. I am not buying into this. Give me a break. Obama played the race card on Bill and today he did the same to McCain. This man and Pelosi have no morals.

Nancy Pelosi is unworthy to be Speaker.
I nominate Time Ryan (D-Youngstown) to be the next speaker!

Remember, the schmuck of schmucks, George W. Bush even has high approval rating than do nothing Pelosi!

Unions are lobbyists as well. Unions do good work alot of times but they are still lobbying the government for all types of stuff.
David Axelrod works for and heads a lobbying firm.
Do not believe the hype.
Opposite, everything they say it is the opposite.
There is no doubt in my mind he loses.
I honestly expect a landslide like 84.
the polls are a dead heat with an unheard of amount of undecared. Those undeclared’s are for McCain and i bet a good bit of obama supporters in the polls really are not his supporters.

I never thought I hear myself say: I hope you’re right, Paul: I hope McCain slaughters the Democratic Party, beats Obama’s tail so bad that McGovern looks like a walk in the park. It’s only then, that people like me [a Dem loyalist] will be able to send the chilling message that needs to be sent to every one of the sitting Dems:

You betrayed us. This is our answer.

I could care less what the AFL CIO thinks or says. They are crooked as can be.

the polls are not accurate anyway. someone posted earlier that a kid took the poll for their parents and said they voted for Obama. Alot of people are at work when they call too. I just don’t think it’s a good sampling.

Help Needed

Can anyone connect the original ‘obama girl video’ to obama’s campaign?

A couple of months ago, I heard that the AFL-CIO was considering endorsing McCain which would have been unprecedented. As a major union though they really couldn’t do that, so I wonder if they could be playing a subliminal game here by reminding their members about all the questions that linger about the guy.
