Keith Olbermann Declares: Off With Dana Milbank’s Head

The arrogance. The perfidy. The cock of the walk puffed up rooster-ness of it all!

On The Big Orange, Commissar Keith Olbermann decided to whet the appetites of his rabid, but dwindling, fan base by offering “a little preview of an item on tonight’s Countdown” by ordering an EXECUTION:

The headline: Dana Milbank won’t be on the news hour any more.

Dana Milbank of The Washington Post, who notified us today that after four years appearing with us, he had accepted another television offer. This saved your crack Countdown staff an increasingly difficult decision.

Your “crack Countdown staff?”

And what decision was that, Keith? Dana must be brought to heel?

It seems the brouhaha stemmed from Dana Milbank’s article, President Obama Continues Hectic Victory Tour where Dana had the audacity to refer to Barack Obama as “the presumptuous nominee.” In other words, Dana finally woke up from his koolaid-induced stupor and called it like he saw it. And for this, the punishment was to be swift and sure from Herr Olbermann.

Since I covered Dana’s article last week, I thought it only fitting that I share the “reasons” for Keithie’s faux outrage. According to the pompous Olbermann:

For nearly a week we’d been waiting for [Dana] to offer a correction or an explanation for his column from last week in which he apparently reported an Obama quote without a full context turned the meaning of the quote inside-out.

Then he called criticisms of his column “whines” even though the dispute was over whether Obama said the self-deprecating: “It has become increasingly clear in my travel, the campaign — that the crowds, the enthusiasm, 200,000 people in Berlin, is not about me at all. It’s about America. I have just become a symbol of the possibility of America returning to our best traditions” — or only the part about “I have just become a symbol…”

All current evidence indicates that Senator Obama is about as capable of being self-deprecating as Olbermann is of having humility. Secondly, the article covers more of the quote than just the ‘symbol‘ part. Lastly, Keith is whining. That is something he has in common with most Obama surrogates on the receiving end of any criticism for their messiah: to whine.

We had decided not to have Dana on this news-hour again until this was cleared up, and, sadly after some very happy years, he’s apparently chosen to make that cloud permanent. Good luck, Dana.

…he took any further decision-making out of our hands. It was quite a surprise conclusion, obviously, and I’ll take it (before anybody tries to take it back).

So, Keith, what you are really telling us is that Dana Milbank basically told you to go stuff it before you had to make the “difficult decision” of telling him to go stuff it.

As you can see from reading Dana’s article linked above, he had the absolute audacity to criticize ‘the One’ and report honestly that some of the press corps started referring to Obama as a “prom queen.”

Considering Obama’s new supersized logo on his plane, his chair stitched with the word President on it, the usurping of the Presidential Seal, telling the press corps how to dress, not answering any real questions, negotiating with and giving his two cents to foreign leaders, overstepping the bounds of his overseas trip, the list goes on and on…why wouldn’t the press call Senator Obama a prom queen? Or perhaps we can use my favorite new name for him: Il Duce.

To summarize, Olbermann, who has been sipping his own koolaid for some time now and puffing out his chest higher and higher with every stinking broadcast, forbade Dana to come back on the show until Milbank basically bowed down and scraped his knees on the carpet begging Olbermann’s forgiveness.

You can manipulate Obama’s quote any way you want – there are several versions of it from different news sources. But in every single one, he refers to himself as ‘a symbol of returning to America best traditions.’ Obama and Puffy the Clown belong together. They have the same exaggerated sense of their own importance.

Why don’t they just go do a sweat lodge and sing songs around the campfire and smoke a doobie and get it over with.

Olbermann accusing Milbank of taking something out of context is a tad disingenuous considering he is the one who would go on nightly unjustified, self-righteous and outrageous diatribes against Hillary Clinton, mentioning the Clintons in the same sentence with the racist David Duke, and other disgusting rants. This is the man who said:

“A Super Delegate needs to take Hillary Clinton into a room and only he comes out. That kind of scenario.”

When viewers exploded with outrage, his big apology was that he “used the wrong pronoun.” That’s it.

MSNBC took the cake in terms of the worst misogynist slurs against Senator Clinton – the unforgivable remarks were compounded daily.

In addition to every other outrage from MSNBC, it appears they are practicing censorship. Because Dana Milbank finally decided to tell the truth about Senator Obama’s arrogant and unseemly behavior, Milbank was to be denied the opportunity to appear on the show and possibly express such dissent.

Olbermann was not worried about Dana offering an “explanation.” The threat was clear – either fall in line or you’re out of a job over here. Dana refused and took another offer instead.

I hope Keith Olbermann can enjoy his ever-lower ratings; currently around the rank of “the Butterfly Channel,” as I believe Bill O’Reilly so eloquently put it.

I see that freedom of speech and freedom of expression are not welcome on Countdown. I have long since written off this program, but more worrisome is the dread I have that dissent and honest expression are also being crushed in other parts of the news media. While Olbermann is arguably the worst offender, he is not alone.

I remember reading that Greta Van Susteren noted a reporter colleague of hers on another network could not file a report critical of Obama without it being watered down, whereas stories critical of Senators McCain and Clinton were left untouched. Highly disturbing to say the least.

There is no love lost for Dana Milbank, given most of his reporting this season. Like many in the media who complain about Obama now, they did so only after they spent many months unfairly kicking the far more qualified Senator Clinton in the teeth.

That stated, I am glad Dana had the good sense not to bow and scrape before Olbermann – a man whose character would be best served in a profession having nothing to do with disseminating ‘news’ to a public desperate for the truth.

Phallux

The Ancient and Primordial God of Rape. Worshipped in many places including Haiti and 4Chan.

Comment by obamarama | 2008-08-05 15:55:27

is this God of Rape born in Kenya. that’s where Obambi’s bilionaire slumlord cousin Odinga’s gangs raped hundreds and left homeless half a milliion-with Obambi’s donations when he was there in ‘06. He encouraged his crazy islamo-fascist Couz Odinga (now Pres!) to bring in Sharia Law and to prevent jailing terrorists…
Obama is clueless about crimes against women.

Why would he let his 2 young girls watch the obscene sex simulation on the Pulpit by crazed racist Rev. Wright? Why did he not want to remove his 2 girls from watching the obscene body gymnastics ? Shouldn’t another more sane father remove his kids from this crrazy lewd, racis toxic environemnt?

No judgment for Barack. No character. The man’s an empty shell, removed from the real world. But he sure loves Himelf!

The obambi should be VP for his cousin Odinga in Kenya, now the Pres!. Dream ticket

Comment by JozefAL | 2008-08-05 13:48:06

Actually, the proper from should be phallic when used as an adjective.
Phallus is the noun; phallic is the adjective.
So, who’s the dumb one now?

Yaz .. it goes to character. If Keith Olbermann has a tiny wee wee – and girlfriends were to diss him – if he has an eggplant body no woman would want (except for a job or lotsa money) they had close their eyes, grit their teeth when he (Keith) wanted sex …. well, it might explain why he hated Hillary (or any other woman). A deformed man with a teeny wee wee might be a bit unbalanced. We will pray for Keith.

Ya know, flip it around and maybe Dana Milbank decided it wasn’t worth it to go onto a tanking show/network.

I’ve stopped watching that network except for Mornin’ Joe on occasions, those occasions being when Joe is on. If it’s Mika and little Willie Geiss the pretend journalist forget it.

Olbermann has become a clown and I don’t see where anyone could take him seriously anymore.

Then Keith wrote a post at kos to throw him under the bus again.

Keith and a few others at MSNBC are the only Obama hacks left.

Comment by MaryPat | 2008-08-05 12:57:17

Back when I could still bear to watch Countdown, it occurred to me that Millbank was the only contributor who would occasionally go “off message”–that is, dare to say something that wasn’t over-the-top pro-Obama. Nothing huge, mind you, but his meager attempts to be objective stood in stark contrast to the blatherings of Keith’s kool-aid drinkers Alter, Wolffe, and Fineman.

The first thing I thought when I saw Dana’s article about Barry’s presumptuousness in the WaPo was that Edward R. Moron was not going to be happy. Look out, Dana, I see a “Special Comment” in your future.

Comment by Annagain | 2008-08-05 13:34:05

Dana stuck a toe in the non-worshipping water back in March when he reported on the “I already answered, like, eight questions” thing — and Obama had to be ushered off the stage after that disastrous news conference.

That was the last we heard about that for four months.

Oh, Dana! Your credibility as a journalist has just hit the LOTTO. Say your prayers thanking the heavenly hosts for your salvation. Because you embarrassed yourself every time you were associated with that slimeball Olbermann. Trust me.

Olbermann hasn’t presented a “news hour” since the first days of Countdown. It’s cartoon-hour; it’s stroke-my-ego hour; it’s misogyny hour; it’s Oreilly-obsession hour; it’s not “news” hour.

Comment by LookingForwardTo2012 | 2008-08-05 12:23:51

So true. My favorites, on Countdown were always Craig Crawford and Dana Milbank. Unfortunately , I stopped watching MSNBC, because of Keith Olbermann and Chris Matthews, in February and never got to see them. I can catch Craig on his Blog, Trailmix…now I will be on the look out for Dana.

Comment by veritas | 2008-08-05 09:52:21

Dana Milbank, although also an offender, was one of the first to admit publicly that there was a discrepancy in the reportage.
Media Matters: http://mediamatters.org/items/200712310001
“On the December 30 edition of CNN’s Reliable Sources, Washington Post national political reporter Dana Milbank said of Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-NY) that “[t]he press will savage her no matter what.” He made the comment in response to a question from Washington Post media critic Howard Kurtz, the Reliable Sources host, about whether the media would “savage her as a loser” if she “gets edged out by 1,000 votes” in the Iowa caucus. Milbank went on to characterize Clinton’s relationship with the press as “poisonous” and “venomous,” and said that journalists “dislike” her.”

As I predicted moths ago, Obamamann is imploding in the exact same way he always implodes at every single job he has ever had. I doubt he’s still employed come this time next tear. He’s going to wig out so badly at some point that they are going to haul him off screen with one of those giant hooks.

Comment by Sharon | 2008-08-05 10:21:11

Haven’t gone anywhere near MSNBC – especially Olbermann’s kook hour – in months and months. But, I’ll sure be glad to tune in after barky’s landslide loss to watch the nutjob get hauled off to the rubber room!

In fact, it’s gonna be such a joy tuning into CNN, MSNBC and the rest when bambi loses – just to watch each and every one of them have a complete and very public meltdown.

Comment by dee4hill | 2008-08-05 10:57:32

But the icing on the cake be the pleasure of watching Olbermann self-destruct. I bet he has to go on sabbatical due to his complete meltdown. Or maybe MSNBC will come to their senses and purge themselves of the rancid b*stard for good. Poor Chris Matthews may lose all sensations in his tingly leg. Tsk, tsk.

And dream of all dreams – Hillary becomes the nominee at the convention and Olberman’s inflated head pops right off his stiff neck!

Hillary or McCain ‘08!!!

Comment by CDN Ctzn | 2008-08-05 14:41:30

Instead of “Hillary or McCain ‘08″ I would sooner see “Progressives” vote for Ralph Nader if he’s on the ballot in your State, and Obama is the nominee. At least he’s anti-corporate and far more in line with our ideals than either McCain or Obama.

If we never get serious about a viable third party we will be stuck with this mess forever! Maybe a protest vote for Nader will seriously get things finally moving in that direction!

Personally I’m sick and tired of Corporate Candidates like we’ve been stuck with recently. It’s either vote for Tweedle Dee or Tweedle Dum.

Author Gore Vidal has often commented that he would love to see a multi-party system in US politics. As it is, we’re stuck with two wings of the same party. I’m inclined to agree with him all the more as I watch this election season proceed!

Sen. Barack Obama’s energy policy is offering more flip flops than a Lake Tahoe souvenir stand.

I’m sorry everyone, but I just can’t hold it in any longer. I just have say a Special Comment® about all of this. Here goes:

For the past week, we have learned that “Countdown Until Keith Obamamann Goes Insane” has been censuring and holding Dana Milbank verbally hostage. HOW DARE YOU censor Dana Milbank, SIR!!! What is this…the freaking Soviet Union? (wipes spittle from corner of mouth) WHO DO YOU THINK YOU ARE? (veins in temple area close to bursting) You are bad, SIR!!! (why is everything getting blurry?) Oh, the pain. I can’t take it anymore. WHY? WHY? WHY CAN’T YOU LEAVE BARRY ALONE?

Milbank has no need to bow and scrape–he’s negotiated a much more lucrative deal…WITH CNN. I love the way that the Herbert Humbert (for the unliterary amongst you, google Vladimir Nabokov) of the NBC family is so, dare I say, PRESUMPTUOUS, to pronounce judgment on ANYONE.

They’re just not that into you, KO!

Wonkette sure had it right!
http://wonkette.com/401680/dana-milbank-leaves-msnbc-for-cnn

So apparently Dana Milbank used to visit Keith Olbermann’s show every now and again, until he didn’t any more, because he called Barack Obama presumptuous. Now Milbank will be mean to Barack on CNN instead, and maybe grow a creepy Wolf Blitzer beard. We never watched this fellow on Countdown, assuming that if something were important enough, it would be brought to our attention.

The only one who CARES, Olbermann, is YOU.

Olbermann is becoming the Morton Downey Junior of this decade. No idea who he was?

Once upon a time he was all the rage.

BOYCOTT THE ‘I OWN MY VOTE SURVEY’

Why is ‘I OWN MY VOTE’ offering the DRAFT as an option for its platform?

I Own My Vote is supposed to be a Hillary support group (i thought), but now if you are a member of I own my vote, you are supporting the draft.

And to all the idiots who think the draft will end the war, you are wrong.

The military needs 2 things, money and bodies. The Dems make sure they have the money and now all the fake anti-war people want to give them the bodies.

Its like trying to lower gas prices by raising the gas tax higher.

once again agent 86, did you notice there was a choice on that question? Agree or Disagree optional.

We are not a movement, we are not a cult, we are not the borg, we aren’t gullible. Although we do agree entirely on some things, such as how freaking funny it is to joke about the pathetic freak-show that is ob.

From Donna’s skunk hair to keith’s public breakdown, we are having a bit of a laugh at ob’s expense.

Now run along and boycott something useful such as the liar and fraud cult leader KOS, and make sure you ask him why he has perpetrated the colb as fact for all these months despite evidence for many months that it was clearly a fraud.

And you might want to use your shoe phone agent 86 and call HQ and ask about ob’s backpedal on the draft.

Carefully check out his plans and his statements for increases in troops and how he plans to screw it all up even more than it is already. He isn’t going to withdraw he is going to reassign and increase the number of troops to other arenas. Wall Street and the money machine are among the oh so many pulling his strings. cha ching, they want payback suckers.

Nobody owns Clinton and nobody tells her what to do, not even Bill. So stuff your boycott.

I am boycotting NBC, you should too, we all should.

Will Herbert and Obamaman have their moment of conscience for their embarrassing conduct and have their Mea Culpa? Considering how they are freaking out these days, I say they better, or they aint gonna’ be able to live with themselves. lol

Dana Milbank, it’s good to see a journalist can admit and see the error of their ways, change and move on. Hat tip to you sir.

Leaving the “toxic” atmosphere of Countdown is the
best thing that could happen to Milbank.
During the primary, he was a grand participant in
the “let’s get Hillary out” attitude, that so many
MSM displayed.
Perhaps, if he’s been sufficiently “de-programmed”
he might be one in the MSM to “follow up” on questions pertaining to Obama’s eligebility. The COLB
and does he hold dual citizenship in any other country? If he did, does no longer, when did that status change?
These are reasonable questions to ask of a “citizen of the world”? Am I on the wrong track here?
If Milbank is not the one…somebody!

Comment by sowsear | 2008-08-05 12:17:43

Milbank probably won’t improve his rhetoric much in going to CNN, at least until/if they decide to back Mac. I can’t believe his moment on MSNBC meant that he is reformed.

Comment by Annagain | 2008-08-05 16:59:19

I hate him more than I hate O’Reilly…and that’s HUGE! The thought of Keith makes me want to puke more than the thought of O’Reilly with a loofa.

He’s got red lips all the time. Is it the lipstick, or koolaid?

She will not be his V.P. choice — nor do we want her to be. Why can’t you get that. He is the Titanic — let him go down on his own. She does not need to rescue him.

His ego is too big for him to choose her anyway — then he is admitting that he needs her and doesn’t know what he is doing without her.

For the thousandth time, WE DO NOT WANT HER ANYWHERE NEAR HIS TICKET.

We want her as President — she is qualified and he is not. She also doesn’t go around insulting everyone who didn’t vote for her.

Olbermann is a pig and I will never forget or forgive that.

Comment by Freedom Fighter | 2008-08-05 11:58:17

Then why do I keep hearing news reports saying Hillary wants on the ticket? Even David Gergen said Obama should seriously consider putting Hillary on the ticket. I believe Obama will ask Clinton to be on the ticket. It would unify the party and also give Hillary a chance to learn and prepare for a better presidential run in 2016.

Comment by WildChild | 2008-08-05 12:04:09

BOBO should ask her. That kind of pure act of desperation on BOBO’s part will give us all something to laugh at as we vote McCain.

Comment by Annagain | 2008-08-05 12:25:07

Who comes up with these “news reports”?

Like the AP report Tuesday morning June 3rd that she was conceding BEFORE people even went to the polls — that was B.S. too.

I am relatively sure he has already offered her VP and she told him to stick it. Unless she is cornered by the DNC and they are desperate and try to force her on in a last ditch effort to rescus his sorry ass — I guarantee you, she wants no part of him.

She knows she would have to do all the damned work while he “puts his feet up on the desk.”

He’s a delegater — as opposed to being a decider.

Maureen Dowd!

To think I used to like reading her columns.

Today she had a pathetic column where she once again labeled Hillary supporters as dead enders and essentially racists for not backing Obama.
KO and Dowd both fail to realize that it is anything but race as to why Hillary supporters are not backing Obama
What aggravates me the most is that these two idiots always fail to mention the men who have been longtime democrats who will never vote for the inexperienced fraud.

Comment by Annagain | 2008-08-05 11:47:25

Dowd et al cannot mention this because that would blow a hole in their entire flawed ‘thesis.’

Dowd just wants to be cools — she got a tinlge up her leg from Barry complimenting her boots on the plane and calling her McDowd. Now she imagines herself to be some kind of cool babe. Her columns have gotten worse and worse. She has betrayed herself.

How old are you people? Better yet does anyone here have any political principles? Hillary did not get the nomination, it wasn’t stolen from her nor was she cheated. Hillary ran a great race but she made mistakes, a lot of mistakes. Does anyone remember the pre-Iowa coverage and debates that all treated Hillary as the winner? Read the plans compare the plans, decide on the issues not on emotion. Will McCain help you? Seriously, what direction do you want this country to head? This isnt high school.

That’s rich. We were just wondering the same thing about Senator Obama’s supporters — drinking the koolaid of a man who is long on empty platitudes and short on qualifications, moral courage or any coherent policy he can stick with for more than five minutes.

The Presidency is not only about conservative or liberal– it is also about character. Obama’s idea of policy is to stick his finger in the air to see which way the wind is blowing. He cares about his elitist friends, big business and Excelon. He could give a damn about working people in this country, or anyone else except himself.

Comment by Lone Liberal | 2008-08-05 23:10:14

Hannity, O’Reilly, give me a break. When have they ever told the truth or let anyone with a difference in opinion even be heard without them yelling over the guest If they can even be a guest or like Ed Schultz, receiving a last minute cancellation on Larry King when the crackpot Glen Beck feared he would have to meet face to face with someone who could factually refute everything Beck believes in his mind to be true.

Check Keith’s facts some time. Like him or not, at least he provides the other side, the correct side with hope to lead us out of this criminal party the GOP has become.

You realize the oval office isn’t public, right?

Comment by Pink Panther | 2008-08-06 00:03:49

You endorse a misogynist, sexist and racist candidate.

Obama never denounced the following statement made by his National Campaign Co-Chair, Jesse Jackson, Jr. to the Washington Post regarding Hillary:

“The natural reminder here is O.J. [Simpson] — how does an African American candidate attack a white woman?”

Comment by ziggy | 2008-08-06 00:55:27

No, I don’t, because Barack Obama is none of those things.

And the Jesse Jackson quote… He was making an observation about why a male black candidate has to be very careful about how he politically attacks a white female opponent. It was a observation about the dangers of perceptions and resonances. It wasn’t a stand-alone comment meant to be quoted out of its context, but that’s the only way you’ll ever find it. Obama had nothing there to apologize for, and nothing to denounce.

Maybe you’ll venture an opinion about how a classy lady like Cindy McCain might feel about John’s joking suggestion that she be entered in the Miss Buffalo Chip competition? Or about how the women who admire her felt about the comment? John was talking about his own wife, of course, so maybe that makes it OK…

ziggy,
It’s obvious you have been brainwashed and you will believe anything Obama and his minions feed you.

There is no way to dialogue with irrational people such as yourself because you cannot be objective.

Cindy McCain is not running for President; Obama and John McCain are running for President.

Your continued attacks on Cindy McCain only strengthens the argument that you have bought into the misogynism and sexism of Obama, his campaign and supporters.

You have only reinforced what is already known about Obama supporters: they are either naive, ignorant or corrupt.

Yep. I agree. Cindy isn’t running. Obama and McCain are running. (Although I haven’t totally counted Hillary out yet. There’s still a convention with a possible floor nomination and all delegates seated and voting.)

Watch the full CNN clip of John McCain at Strurgis. That’s not edited. That’s not somebody speaking for John, or about John. That’s just John.

The real sad thing is you and others who claimed to be supporters or supported Senator Clinton can easily turned an blind eye and support a guy who used the Bush/Rove 2000 playbook against another Democrat. Barack Obama and his team of “progressive” flunkies had done something that the right wing media and the Republicans couldn’t do in 12 years tarnish the Clintons.. You know the Obama team hurl enough slime when Bill Clinton has to say “I’m not a racist” on national tv..

To the subject at hand I tuned out Keith Olbermann in the time span where Keith went ape crap crazy over Gerladine Ferraro(sp) comments but kept quite when Obama supporter Randi Rhodes called Hillary Clinton a “F*cking whore” at a backed Obama campaign rally. To me it’s about fairness and in this primary it seems Hillary had to fight not Obama but she had to fight Ed Schultz, she had to fight Steph Miller, every so called progressive bloger and Air America. Other then Lynn Samuels where was the pro Clinton person on the air waves during the primary?

All these people and outlets I mention were repeating Obama campaign talking points and allowing Obama followers to add in the slime when they called in.

I quit MSNBC about three months ago. I was a regular and KO was a must watch. At some point, prior to a Hillary Cluinton interview with Russert, it became an Obama station. NBC, MSNBC and Newsweek are all owned by General Electic, a very large defense contractor. In that interview Russert tried to hammer away at Hillary, but she handled him in a business like manner and made him look very bad. Following the interview, things went from bad to worst in all these news outlets. I do not watch NBC or MSNBC and I cancelled Newsweek. I do not know for sure, but I believe that the Washington Post is owned by G.E. I could be wrong, but all of the reporters, including Eugene Robinson, are in the bag for Obama. Beside some of his other mental problems, KO has one that involves women. He hammered on Spears and Hilton to such an extent that it was just too much and out of line. Saw something the other day and it stated that “Countdown” was down to 30 in their ratings.

“It has become increasingly clear in my travel, the campaign — that the crowds, the enthusiasm, 200,000 people in Berlin, is not about me at all. It’s about America. I have just become a symbol of the possibility of America returning to our best traditions.”

To say that one is only a symbol of aspirations to return to the higher values once exemplified by America and her traditions is not a clear enough statement?

It’s so clear that anti-Obama people apparently felt it had to be misquoted and turned on its head.

There’s absolutely nothing honest about a news report or news commentary–or a commentator–that deliberately uses such distorted quotations to attempt to score points.

No doubt Dana Milbank will find other career opportunties. I would think FOX News would be a likely place to send a resumé.

Comment by james | 2008-08-05 14:14:28

Well, that’s where opinions are seriously divided. Supporters of Obama tend to view him as an opportunity for change. He’s not viewed as the solution itself. More as a doorway to a wider range of possibilities. All of the real work of getting America back on the right track begins once you go through a doorway that makes it possible.

I looked at Hillary Clinton the same way, and still do.

I don’t see John McCain as a doorway. I see him as a barrier, keeping us in the place where we’ve gotten stuck.

That’s all just symbolic talk, of course. But it symbolizes something real.

Comment by WildChild | 2008-08-05 14:34:13

LOL now I’ve heard everything. BOBO’s slogan was Change we can believe in, not your post primary revision An opportunity for change we can believe in. It was the original slogan that was used to bludgeon Hillary supporters during the primaries. According to you BOBOweenies back then she and John McCain were part and parcel of the same thing that had to be done away with. You can flail about all you want trying to find common ground with us now. LOL of course your biggest impediment now is your attitude then.

Comment by james | 2008-08-05 14:57:20

When Obama and Clinton were battling it out during the primaries they focused on opposing each other. Supporters on either side took some questionable shots. The candidates took a few questionable shots. Both campaigns did all they could to optimise their advantages. Each side had some high-profile, loose-cannon jackasses, that took it all personally and tried to make it all personal. That’s politics.

That was then. This is now. I’m still a democrat, and what I oppose is republican policy. The same thing I opposed all along.

That’s how I look at things.

Comment by WildChild | 2008-08-05 15:11:00

This is now and you are still taking questionable shots and expecting us to take you seriously. It was you who said Supporters of Obama tend to view him as an opportunity for change. He’s not viewed as the solution itself. More as a doorway to a wider range of possibilities. Yet during the primaries the supporters of BOBO weren’t making that argument. They were making the argument I paraphrased earlier. As a matter of fact, they were making the primary argument until just recently when BOBO managed to somehow squeak himself down neck and neck with McCain.

Your deception is taken for what it is: A really lame assed attempt, now that BOBO is in trouble, to make friends with those you’ve been writing off for the past seven months. Sorry, but it’s too little, too late. And best of all, we’ve actually been enjoying our lives without you.

Comment by james | 2008-08-05 15:29:35

So keep your resentments, hang onto your grudges, and keep fighting the same old battle–when others, apparently including Senator Clinton, have moved on to where the real current battle is. I can’t talk you out of that. I won’t condemn you for it. But don’t expect me to see the point of it. Like I said, I’m focused on the perils and possibilities of now.

I’ve never said a word against folks still trying to promote Hillary Clinton’s cause. I won’t, either. I just argue against attacks on the candidate the democratic party currently seems to have. Because I’m a democrat.

Comment by WildChild | 2008-08-05 15:43:25

James, we’ve already have moved on, to John McCain. That’s how badly you and BOBO fucked up. Democrats will be voting for a republican this year. Thats how badly you and BOBO fucked up. After eight years of Chimpy Mcflightsuit and all the horse shit he brought with him, democrats are going to vote for the republican presidential candidate. That’s how badly you and BOBO fucked up. What you and BOBO fail to even consider is that because you fucked this thing up so badly, you are the fight we have to fight. You are the current battle. Democrats have to fight democrats in 2008 to avoid another four years of a light weight chief executive that is in love with himself and unchecked by a rubber stamp congress of the same party. That’s how badly you and BOBO fucked up.

Own it.

Democrats have to fight democrats in 2008 to avoid another four years of a light weight chief executive that is in love with himself and unchecked by a rubber stamp congress of the same party.

I guess we’ll find out in November how many democrats actually believe leaving the republicans in charge is the only intelligent response to the godawful mess 12 straight years of republican domination have gotten us into.

Assuming, of course, that we get a true vote count, which apparently didn’t happen in either 2000 or 2004.

Then we’ll see over the next 4 years how smart our choice was.

You’re evidently counting on a democratic majority in congress to hold another republican president in check for 4 years. What we’ve seen since the 2006 elections is a republican president holding his ground against congress. The republicans are just biding their time.

That democratic majority is a fragile thing, with the congressional approval rating being at an all-time low. The democrats won a majority just in time to be on the scene when the negative consequences of republican policy began to surface. They’ll take the blame for the mess that the republicans created. Don’t count on that majority lasting, if republican obstruction and a republican president block any meaningful change for the next couple of years.

Comment by WildChild | 2008-08-05 23:40:22

LMAO you people are fucking retarded. I’m not sure whether to oppose you for your blind loyalty to a guy who feels that his word is a mere transitory thing or this last statement I guess we’ll find out in November how many democrats actually believe leaving the republicans in charge is the only intelligent response to the godawful mess 12 straight years of republican domination have gotten us into.

I’d give you a brief primer on the concept for checks and balances but what would be the point. It would be lost on you that with McCain as president and the democrats controlling the congress that the power of both is checked. That they same was true when Bill Clinton was president. The republicans only dominated anything when they held the congress and the oval office for a six year period. LOL I can;t imagine where you pulled this twelve year number other then out of your ass. But given your blind loyalty to The One and the fact that you don’t seem to be able to grasp the reality of checks and balances or the actual time period they were practical reality then why the hell should we voluntarily stand with you to create the very lack of check or balance that you quiver about when thinking about republican dominance, but then give you dominance under a democratic label. We would be guilty of doing the very same thing that terrified you when it was called republican. But you would welcome it when it is renamed democrat. That alone makes you unworthy of our trust. With BOBO in charge, all we would be doing is trading one extreme for the other extreme. If there is anything that the chimp taught us, it’s we’ve had enough of the extremes.

Comment by james | 2008-08-06 00:26:11

I’m familiar with the concept of checks and balances.

Why don’t you explain to me how well checks and balances have worked during George W. Bush’s term of office?

From January 1995 until January 2007 the republicans had a controlling majority in the House of Representatives. The same was true in the Senate until January 2001, when the democrats attained a brief period of plurality. Senate control returned to the republicans in January 2003 and they retained it until January 2007.

Clinton was hardly able to call the shots during his second term, owing to escallating far-right attacks culminating in impeachment procedings. Then we got Bush-wacked.

That’s pretty much 12 years, the way I figure it.

Comment by WildChild | 2008-08-06 00:33:35

OMG are you just dicking with me now or are you really this stupid? Checks and balances didn’t work so well during Bush’s first six years James. They didn’t work so well because Bush had a rubber stamp congress of the same party James. LOL and this is the only six year period the republicans dominated our government James. All the rest of the time in question, two separate parties controlled two separate and coequal branches of government James. Please tell me that you are aware of this James and that we don’t need to send the guys with the butterfly nets over to your house to protect you from yourself.

Comment by james | 2008-08-06 01:13:59

Apparently I really am that stupid, because I’m suffering from a persistent delusion that the republican party has had control of America for quite a long time now. I’m also under the delusion that this has produced a number of highly undesirable results, ranging from a financially ruinous, totally unnecessary war based upon deliberate lies, to a mountain of debt so high that our great-grandchildren will still be struggling to pay it off.

I would be only too happy to discover that none of this is true.

James,

It is too late to be reasonable. Obama is not a good candidate and never was — furthermore he has deeply insulted and tossed aside anyone who did not vote for him. I don’t trust his agenda for this country because his positions change daily.

Now that it is very obvious to those of his supporters and surrogates who have been spewing filth at Hillary and her supporters on the net, on the streets and in the media for months, you and they want to wax philosphical and hold hands.

Sorry. Don’t trust that. Nothing to do with you personally. Barry has shown he has no moral compass and does nothing but pander and flip flop.

He accused Hillary of a dirty campaign when he was far far worse. The media gave him a free pass and roasted her over a spit for every little thing. That still has not changed.

Can’t vote for him. Can’t support him. Can’t let him off the hook. He in the opposite of progress in this country. He has not moved the debate forward.

Comment by C.S. | 2008-08-05 15:20:37

Change can be good or bad; it is the change the speaker is talking about that matters.

Webster’s defines change as “to make different in some particular, to replace with another” so we can see that change doesn’t necessarily have to be good. Hitler made radical changes to Germany, Japan changed to a military power dedicated to conquest and George W. Bush changed us from a country who believed in Teddy Roosevelt’s “talk softly and carry a big stick’ to a preemptive strike policy that has gained us enemies and lost us friends.

So without Obama explaining exactly what changes he plans to implement, I’ll just stick with the changes I know will be coming because you can not have a secret agenda of change in a Democracy.

No matter HOW you read Obama’s statement, it is presumptuous and wrong.

By saying he is a “symbol” of American returning to its best traditions (even “merely” a symbol) — what he is implying is that with him at the helm, we will return to our best traditions — that is completely arrogant and untrue. If you examine his behavior, campaign and flip flops and the people and policies he has thrown under the bus, he does not exemplify any of those traditions — therefore he CANNOT be a symbol of them.

Comment by C.S. | 2008-08-05 15:45:58

Nor can he return to them if he doesn’t believe in them; and he’s giving every indication that he does not plan to emulate any of those great presidents who appear on our currency. And unlike Roman emperors and conquers throughout time, who chose to put their faces on their currency; none of these presidents did so.

And yet, Obama has created a seal, a throne, and a myth that he was The One we’ve been waiting for and a symbol of the United States, has replaced the American flag with a symbol derived of his initial. We’ve had some doozies as presidents since George Washington set the job criteria but none, not even Reagan, not even GWB got close to the imperial presidency as Obama has created before he has even had his name placed in nomination! What arrogance! What insolence! How insulting! What hubris!

Is there even one talking head on MSNBC with a modicum of integrity? I want to believe David Gregory (”Race for the White House”) might be a journalist of decency and substance, although his panel (with rare exception) are mostly in the tank for BO. To his credit Tom Brokaw (toward the end of the primaries) rose to Hillary Clinton’s defense in the face of that blow hard Keith Olbermann.

During the primaries, I lost track of the number of times Hillary Clinton supporters were denigrated by various MSNBC talking heads who called us “downscale” and “uneducated.” Chris Matthews nearly wet his pants when the state of NC went for Obama. He kept going on and how about how progressive NC was and farseeing. Much of my family reside in NC where it’s my understanding there’s starting to be an epidemic called buyer’s remorse afflicting many one-time BO supporters. Beyond that NC is largely a red state suggesting there is somewhere else for both disgruntled and disenfranchised Dems to go in my home state.

Had the MSM done its job from the get go which is to present accurate and unbiased coverage of each candidate, the candidate with the most experience and fewest shady associations, HRC, would now be the Democratic presumptive nominee.

Wonder how long it’s going to take for the obnoxious obot KO along with his tingle-legged MSNBC sidekick Chris Matthews to be successfully weaned off the teat of Barack Obama?

EightBelles — Yes, you are right and I agree with your comments 100%. I’d just like to add that these same “journalists” who get their on the job training chasing after blonde bimbos released from rehabs were the ones who uncritically allowed the idiot son Bush Dubbya Junior to attack Iraq for no good reason based on lies for which Pelosi and the exDems are refusing to denounce! These journalists never reported the real holocaust and damage inflicted on Iraq by American forces –who were doing their job as instructed by a moron president.

Where were the real journalists for the last 7 years? No one showed us the catastrophe in Iraq. No one showed us the raped girls and women of Iraq and the internal chaotic conditions.

Did we ever see any REAL FILM FOOTAGE from Iraq. No. The Idiot was acting like the Obamarama is now preventing them from doing their jobs. Who owns NBC? General Electric (Ronnie Reagan sold bulbs on the Ed sullivan show decades ago and showcased his career). GE powers that be tag along with Bushies and Obambis.
Only Hillary offered real Hope. And where were the media? they never reported the truth cause they got orders (and commissions) from their corporate heads.

It’s ugly really. So jounralists like Dana Milbank get fired for doing their *job*!!

Back in October 2007 Hillary made a fantastic speech dealing with FAMILY ISSUES and policies, like pregant leave and subsdidies for poor middle class workers. She had said:
“You are not invisible to me. I hear you, I see you”..Guess what? The Boston Globe put it under “female issue”!!! This was quite a serious policy proposal…

You gotta love it when Olbermann unconditionally supports such a laughable nut-job.

Great post Ani! Thanks so much. Great irony & humor in your writing! We also stopped watching Obamamann after his horrid supredelegate-takes-Hillary-in-a-room comment. Keep up the good work!

I am,,, I am… I’m flabbergasted!

I was a very regular viewer of obamsnbc and I haven’t tuned in at all in months.. as i started reading this article i keep picturing milbanks sitting there as a guest on any of these afternoon shows doing his thing, behavior as reprehensible as all of them with his manicured bias.

i am curious what this other position is that he took.

as for wishing him well, fk him.. sorry but this ole lady has to call it as i see it and anger lives in my throat 24/7 over this election season..

i remember the article by dana.. about 5 months too late and this is all just amusing as hell that he has parted ways with obie,,, or has he parted ways with obamsnbc altogether ?

either way this is amusing as hell.. great to make fodder with-

bunch of misogynist assholes-

98% of you are crack heads that apparently wouldn’t know ethics if it hit you straight in the face. Out of context is “out of context”, no other way to call it. This country is in more trouble than we know it with people like you running around.

Ddble has it right. Dana screwed up, and should own to it. And you guys really do need to get over it, Hillary screwed up her campaign (should have been dead when she mis-remembered “sniper fire) and blew it. Better luck with the next lame candidate you pick.

Comment by Cahil | 2008-08-06 12:58:53

Hillary Clinton may not be perfect, but this woman dances rings around Obama every day and after all Obama’s gaffes, lies, inexperienced boo-boos, nefarious associations and lack of action of important issues — you want to tell me she blew it?? The best you can come up with is ’sniper fire’ — from this whole campaign??

Why do you think in this no lose years for Dems, Obama’s poll numbers are dropping like a lead balloon. He should be leading by double digits.

Go back to school and learn something, will ya.

Olbermann is one of the world’s biggest asses!

If you want a good chuckle at his expense please see:

Hey Ani!
What about a “Sweat Lodge” do you find objectionable?
I could give a rats ass about Olbermann and his Man Crush On Ill Dunce, but leave my sacred lodge out of it…LMAO

Comment by Ani | 2008-08-06 18:55:54

Certainly didn’t mean to insult a sacred ritual!! :)

There’s nothing objectionable to it, nor did I write that there was — Obie and Punchy should just go start one already….

I too, believe Millbanks should have owned up to it. If people are saying he “finally is telling the truth”, are you also accepting the word of a liar? If so, he should fit right in at FOX

Those concerned w/Olbermann sexual orientation are really immature. Concerning Rachel Maddow; she’s gay and has a partner.

Comment by Marissa | 2008-08-07 11:09:29

Olbermann should be fired.

Comment by Payne | 2008-08-07 15:01:04

Seriously folks, you need to get a grip. Keith speaks truth to power. Dana is a typical spineless MSM analyst. Wildchild and the rest of you kooks are ignorant fools, too bad you have no clue of that fact. This blog feeds your neurosis so “Good luck and goodbye”

Why are you such a fascist kiss-ass? Why? Did your mama not give you enough titty back in the day? Whassupp, brownshirt?

I love Kandy B., the great embezzler. Yup, I does. She is the paradime of lousiness, lies, deceit and denial. Fugghur very much. And you.

You guys are such racists. You are haters and race baters. You are traitors to America. Why not just shoot some oxyconten with Rush Limberger? Whack your doodles to pictures of Cheney torturing someone. Why not waterboard each other while wearing burkas? Do something constructive like going on a terminal hunger strike.

People seem to be confusing the news with political commentary.

The news provides information.

Political commentary is largely for entertainment purposes.

Olbermann, Maddow, Beck, O’Reily, Hannity, Limbaugh–they’re entertainers, not journalists.
