Obama’s Fake Unity

From the IOwnMyVote newsletter.

Part I – The Restoration

Senator Obama has announced with a magnanimous flourish that he would, in all his beneficence, call for the Credentials Committee to restore the votes of Florida and Michigan delegates to 100%. If you recall, when we left off at the Rules and Bylaws Committee meeting on May 31st, Florida and Michigan had 100% of their delegates seated, but only with 1/2 vote each. Sounds like the Party is healed. Right?

Wrong. Remember that the fury that emerged at the end of the Rules and Bylaws Committee Meeting was not over the 1/2 vote penalty. People were outraged because the RBC threw out the results of the popular vote, which gave Obama no delegates, and replaced them with an amalgam of exit polls and other data, giving Obama all of the “uncommitted” delegates and hijacking four of Hillary’s, effectively handing the race to Obama.

Obama’s play for unity on Monday did nothing to change that absolute corruption of the democratic process.

Part II – Everybody Agrees On the Platform

The Irish Times coverage of the Platform Drafting Committee Meeting that took place this past weekend in Cleveland, reported, “Heather Higginbottom, an Obama policy aide and a member of the drafting committee, said that Clinton’s official representatives helping to shape the platform have asked neither for a healthcare mandate nor gender-bias language.” Kumbaya right? Of course not.

Do you really think that after all we’ve been through that nobody spoke up to influence the drafting committee to include language addressing gender bias and incorporation of mandates as part of any plank concerning universal healthcare?

I Own My Vote did. I Own My Vote assembled the results of theVirtual Platform Committee Meeting as of last Thursday with the names of 1351 participants and a copy of the I Own My Vote Pledge, and distributed it to every member of the drafting committee. Among the platform planks we submitted were ones calling for passage of the Equal Rights Amendment, denunciation of gender bias, and inclusion of a mandate in any universal healthcare plan.

Party rules state that the platform is open to public comment until the platform committee votes. The Obama campaign’s effort to pretend there is no dissent is offensive. When the campaign calls for input and 1,351 people speak as one, it doesn’t matter whether Clinton’s official representatives ask for particular language or not.

We will work to amend the platform if no such language is included.

The Messiah sounds like Joseph Stalin deciding to run for office after having had all of his enemies disappear and then claiming that there are no restrictions on who the Party delegates can vote for.

No wonder Castro of Cuba, Gaddafi of Libya, Kim Jong of North Korea, Hamas, and Hugo Chavez of Venezuela have all voiced support for and love of Obama.

Obama had every chance to show fairness and honesty in this election cycle.Instead he has stepped on everyone he needs to win in November.
When I heard about wanting to now include Mi and Fl
I thought to myself that’s the last straw.

Except Obama had used that last straw long ago.

Comment by Obama is a bum | 2008-08-06 00:17:09

I am wondering how many more straws the voting public requires to break Obama’s back and he nose dives. I smelled a rat a long time ago and am mystified by how slow the general population is to catch on to this farce. Perhaps they are too busy inflating their tires and when the tires finally blow up in their faces they will wake up.

Comment by Seattle Moss | 2008-08-06 00:52:38

Obama can’t get more than 45% of the vote. Most of that vote comes from newbies who cannot find Mexico on a map.
Obama threw out the base and now he is scrambling to replace our votes with quality people such as we see at the mall with their baggy ass pants and ipods.

They know of no past and have no future. All they care about is change
With Obama all they will have is change in their pockets
That and a draft card!

How can we elect a party that are made up of wimps and wussies who turn their backs on the good judgment of the American people.
It just galls me that these super delegates would rather embrace totalitarian Marxist thug behavior than a candidate who could rise above that level and unite the country.
I’m starting to wonder if the democrat party is even American.

Being an indy is a good thing.
However, I think the republicans can see an opportunity. They know they are toast if they stick with the far right extremist’s.
This year they got lucky on two fronts. They were able to throw off the yoke of the far right and nominate a true moderate such as McCain. They have also been handed on a silver platter the Clinton democrats.
What is now emerging is a new majority in the center.
The New Republicans will be about equal rights, fairness and champions against sexism.
McCain will be the president that brings more Women than any president in history into his cabinet.
The women that he brings in will affect change on issues important to women and as a result change the republican party.

Young voters are watching. How this issue is ultimately resolved or left unresolved, I believe, will have a significant impact upon future generations.

They may say now that they don’t need or want our votes and that they wish we would just go away. But in the future, when other issues must be addressed, they will look back at the precedents that were set during this period in history.

Too little too late Obama: That “history-making” race speech should have been given to the Reverend Wright and his congregation years ago when Obama first saw what a racist, divisive agenda they participate in.

He should have cared about counting every vote in Michigan and Florida when it would have mattered in the election instead of sending his attorneys to block every attempt at a revote solution. Too little too late and quite transparent to make this move now.

I also call him Burning Bridges Obama. I refer all questions to Bill Clinton.

Thanks SusanUnPC for informing us about how far away from any desire for unity bHo and the DNC are, and, even more importantly, how little truthfulness there is in anything Democratic anymore. I agree with Seattle Moss that the New Democrats need to be destroyed — because they are the new authoritarians. I am hopeful along with him/her that “what is emerging is a new majority in the center”. How to achieve success is puzzling, though, especially since Hillary left us for unity. Does one vote a “straight Republican ticket” a la Belle Artiste? Perhaps that is the way to go this cycle. Unfortunately, that party has been filled with their own version of liars and thieves. At least I can go for McCain. The more I hear, the more I like, although some of the proposals are a bit hard to take.

Comment by Heather | 2008-08-05 23:56:50

I spent a week sweating over McCain’s support for offshore drilling, thinking it might be a deal breaker as far as ever voting for him.

Then in a single stroke of inartful triangulation, Obama erased all differences between them on this issue.

Goodbye Democrats, hello Independents. Not sure I can stomach straight Republican ticket but will definitely give everyone a close look instead of voting blindly Dem.

On Obama’s site now

“. . . Let’s pretend that McCain’s right and that this was a way of bringing his age up. What exactly is it that makes it a cheap shot? Is McCain trying to tell us that he’s not really frackin’ old? Are we not allowed to talk about it? Because, seriously folks, it’s not like this isn’t an issue. Age is the one immutable* characteristic that is actually relevant. McCain’s what, 71 now, right? He’ll be 72 before he takes office and that means that if he gets elected and reelected he’ll be 80 when he leaves office. He can’t tell us his mind’s going to be all there in eight years. He can’t tell us it’ll be all there in four years. He just can’t. He can’t know that. He’s really old. Old people start to deteriorate. They get Alzheimer’s. They get Parkinson’s. They get dementia.”

No only are Obama and his supporters sexist, misogynist and racist, they have no problem discriminating based on age (i.e., ageism).

Think how they would react if individuals on this site made derogatory comments about a candidates based on race or religion.

Don’t forget to add homophobic. Recall the story that Obama would not be photographed with Gavin Newsome, mayor of San Franciso.

And don’t forget to add classist, either. Michelle Obama thinks the first thing we working class folks did with our rebate checks was to go out and buy a $600 necklace. She also lamented the $10,000 per year the poor Obamas had to spend on ballet lessons.

Obama and his supporters are guilty of every “ism” in the book.

That’s why they have to have tire gauges as part of the energy plan, and call McCain’s campaign

ignorant

over the criticism of it; most mature people know about tire inflation, most people who are driven by chauffeur or take Mommy and Daddy’s cars, don’t have a clue.
The viewpoints that have come out of the Obama campaign are very narrow. A perspective of an elitist; with not a concern to how it divides people, pitting them against each other. Anything, literally to win.

helen — 76 Million Boomers and 45 Million Seniors and the Democratic Party decides to throw us all under a bus for this newer 21st Century Democratic Party. I have one question who will replace the 121 Million Democrats they say they don’t want.

Are they going to replace us with the homeless who are being paid to vote with $50 credit cards? Don’t think so. There is one rule the Democratic Party has obviously forgotten. Never throw away a Democratic Vote.

Comment by ldyoung | 2008-08-06 11:03:09

This is where the DNC has made a terrible blunder. While they have thrown the 78 million boomers and 47 million seniors under the bus to build a “new party” — they only have 48 million GenXrs and 70 million GenYs left to target. Now some of the GenXrs are, of course, in their 40’s and far less pliable than the DNC would like to believe. So that slices them right in half so maybe they’ve got 24 million left to target. Many of the GenY’s are not even old enough to vote yet so their numbers fall well below the 70 million mark. Yes, it’s far more crowded UNDER the bus than it is in the bus. But shhhhh — don’t anyone tell Howard that!

Now — let me just say that I admire all of you who have switched from Democrat to Independent. I was planning to do the same. But I began to have “fun” writing my letters, e-mails, etc. to Dean and crew and found that maintaining my Democratic status actually helps me to be a bigger pain in their collective butts. I get their e-mails asking for money — and I can tell them “hell no” and then tell then why. I get their letters in the mail asking for money and I can send a bright, shiny penny to help pay Howard’s salary along with a nasty comment about what a LOSER he is. The DNC has now blocked my e-mails — so I created a new e-mail address and have picked up right where I left off. Switching to Independent is a very effective strategy and I congratulate all of you who have taken this step. Me — I am keeping my enemies close so that I can continue to be a boil on their backside. Same basic strategy with a slightly different twist!

Dean, Brazile, the DNC and all the DEMS that went along with stealing MY VOTE should all be punished. I voted yesterday in the Michiganistan Primary, Straight Republican, OK, they don’t allow ballot splitting, i was going to vote for Levin. These people have gone crazy, they don’t believe in DEMOCRACY or THE VOTE. Now Obama wants to give all the Delegates from Michiganistan and Florida their votes back noe that the Clinton delegates were purged by Party Bosses. George Soros and his money run the DEMS, they all tap dance for his cash, same with MoveOn and the Obama blogs, I hope you all take the DEMS to task this Nov. and PUNISH THEM and help this Party get purged of Dean, Brazile, Perlosi and their supporters. VOTE FOR REPUBLICANS, I did it for the first time, it wasn’t that bad.

USA Today Notices: Obama’s Insane!

Aug. 5, 2008 (LPAC)– Writing in the nation’s most widely read newspaper, USA Today, editor Jonah Goldberg exposes more of the megalomaniac insanity of the nation’s presumptious Democratic candidate, Barack Obama. When asked his definition of the word “sin,” he writes, Obama replied that it was “being out of allignment with my values.” “My” values? With this definition, says Goldberg, Hanibal Lector would have had a clean conscience: he believed it was OK to eat people!

This expose follows the charge made last week by Dana Milbank in the Washington Post, that Obama had gone from the “presumptive” to the “presumptuous” candidate; and ads from the McCain campaign, highlighting Obama’s megalomania with the image of “The One.”

She is going on the trail for Obama in FL & NV allowing herself to be pimped off. I’m done. I do not want to support her ever again! She needs to grow a spine and tell those thugs in the DNC to have a roll call…but NO!
She’s not doing it. We bust butt for her and it means nothing! Americans are afraid of this dangerous man! She doesn’t care! She’s going to tell the people to vote for him! And don’t tell me she has to. She doesn’t have to do anything! Obama is going to take this country down and Hillary supports that. Fook that sheet..
Vote Repub all the way down…no exceptions!

Lou – It seems to me that is also an opportunity for HRC. BO will be walking on the waves while she is left alone to go out on the trail. Sure, she will have to make nice for The One. However, she is going to be covered by the press constantly, hoping to see her being humiliated. But the exposure will show a lot of people the courageous person she is – not to mention that she can run rings round him speaking off the cuff without teleprompter. If buyers’ remorse is already taking hold, think about what the addition of her presence on the tube can do to that! My guess is that the BO camp will be watching like hawks and if viewers react to her rather than her praise of The One, they will haul her out of sight ASAP! That lady has intestinal fortitude – I admire her far more than I did at the beginning of her candidacy.

Lou,

Don’t be too quick on the draw. If she was the woman you thought, she’s still got a play or two to make. No need to be too quick here. What will she look like if Barry is blown out of the water? If she stayed a ‘good soldier’ she can go, ‘Oh, the bastard! Oh, that SOB. If I’d only known! etc.
Party infrastructure stays somewhat intact. Heads roll like it was Bastille Day and she rises, like a Phoenix from the ashes.
That is a viable scenario for the existing info.
All that being said, if she does just toe the party line until the election, then we are talking a different colored quadruped.

Comment by Seattle Moss | 2008-08-06 02:06:45

The Clinton base of the party has only temporarily been exiled.
What we saw this year was the hogging by newbies inexperienced and not ready for prime time taking over the party. They want their moment in the sun and believe that they have all the answers.
I’m sure Hillary is as shocked as all of of at these events.
This process needs to run it’s course and Hillary needs to be the good democrat so that she can save the party later.
We need to be patient so that we can say

Don’t be angry yet, please. Consider what would happen if she actually did come out and tell him to eff off:
There goes her image as a lady.
There goes her image as a team player.
There goes her still viable chance to get the nomination from the Dems.
And there go the Bots and media all over about how eeevil she is, so there goes her career and that of her supporters.

Meanwhile, she is not hiding, she is keeping her face in front of the public. By now she is going to look good and interesting again because BO has had a chance to “shine.” It is a sensible ploy of hers, and she can campaign all she likes, as far as I’m concerned. I don’t have to vote for BO if he gets the nomination after all. But it ain’t over, until January 20 apparently if WJC has some hidden message.

Hillary knows what she’s doing. This is only the fourth or fifth appearance she has made for Obambi. She wants to have her “day” at the convention and she deserves it! But to get it, she has to defer to “The One” temporarily. However, I have no doubt that behind closed doors Hillary is brushing him off her shoulder and planning her strategy to save the Democratic Party from the hurt Dean, Pelosi and others have inflicted upon it. Hillary is a class act and smart as blazes. The Clintons are not through — they are just taking a coffee break!

PIMPING the little lady is abominable..
Can she go on vacation to cape cod and say no?
I have never seen a candidate stump for the rival before the convention. Why is she taking it and embarrassing us?

Comment by Beowulf | 2008-08-06 03:42:05

Gee Barack, while you’re at it–this magnanimous “unity” effort, why not just let the delegates and superdelegates vote for Hillary too, which is normally customary to begin with.

Or how ’bout lettin’ Bill speak at the convention on prime time, especially since he has one of the best civil rights records of all time, white or black? And since he’s so damn popular with working class whites and independents, and used to be so damn popular with blacks until you & Jeremiah came along. (Hillary too has a civil rights record that is far stronger better than Barack, Michelle & Jeremiah Wright put together. Hillary has successfully argued many cases and undertaken many campaigns on the rights of women and children, which is very unlike Obama who as the much vaunted Harvard Student Law Journal editor never even argued a single case, and for 8 years which he worked for the “civil rights” law firm he was only doing the work of a 1st or 2nd year junior lawyer, i.e. beaureaucratic paper work. Instead, Obama just hangs around slumlords like Rezko, effectively negating the little good that he did accomplish as a mediocre community organizer, as a mediocre Illinois state Senator, as well as a mediocre US Senator.)

Or how about apologizing to Hillary and Bill for the scurrilous race-baiting done by your former buddy Jeremiah?!?

Or how about apologizing to Bill for savaging him over the Jessie Jackson comparison, which Jessie himself said to Bill: “I think we all know what is going on here.”

Or how about apologizing to Hillary for visciously slandering her saying she “denigrated Dr. King”.

Talk about a vacuous opportunist.

Comment by JohninCA | 2008-08-06 06:13:13

I remember Harold Ickes talking about four delegates being hijacked. How can a Clinton delegate even think of supporting a candidate complicit in the “hijacking,” particularly given the allegations of caucus fraud in his own state?

This is my problem with party loyalty. It leads otherwise rational people to defend the indefensible. It all comes down to the imperative of supporting the Party’s candidate. It breeds the mentality that “he’s an SOB, but he’s our SOB.”

Let them eat cake at the convention. Obama , is so for Obama and the politicians who follow the line of the DNC really are for sale, give me give me give me, As a voter our voices are tired of being muzzled by the politicians who do not do the right thing, experience to me is far better than a man who flips his positions because the oposite is not working, atleast we know McCain and he is no Bush.

If everything is rainbows, lollipops and unity ponies at the Platform Drafting Committee meetings, why is NARAL asking for pro-choice supporters to speak up?

The full text of Nancy Keenan’s message is on my blog, but here’s the money quote:

The Democratic Party has invited activists across the country to meet and make suggestions about the platform. We cannot take the Democratic Party’s longtime pro-choice position for granted—we need to demonstrate our strength.

Help keep the Democratic Party’s platform strongly pro-choice. Flex the muscle of America’s pro-choice majority by sending your message today!

Strange, to say the least.

Comment by C.S. | 2008-08-06 07:49:16

Reality is Obama’s perception of reality. And, unfortunately for the United States the Democratic party leaders have agreed to accept his version of reality. Including many of Senator Clinton’s campaign staff.

Gary Mauro, Texas campaign staff, was interviewed on Fox News and had no problem agreeing with the interviewer when he said that she had lost the primary to Barack Obama. This perception of agreeing with the idea that Mr. Obama won anything after the blatant steal of not just her delegates, but other candidates as well, give legitimacy to his claim. Senator Clinton being sent out to campaign while he vacations degrades her equal candidacy and gives her second class status in the party system; his “assistant” rather than his rival. No wonder the guy thinks he’s been anointed by whatever version of his “god” he believes in.

There is power in numbers and unfortunately the rank and file members of the Democratic party are divided on how to stop what is happening. The grass roots organizations that sprung up spontaneously to fight against this farce are great but the power is going to be seen in the number of votes Obama does not get. We can’t just not vote, if you don’t vote you will simply be listed among those who never vote. If you can’t support McCain, then please find a third party candidate you can vote for.

Every vote that is cast contributes to the overall percentage and if it is large enough the political parties will notice. Perot’s third party joined with other third parties and got so powerful that they moved in and broke it up. The Green party was gaining converts so fast that they blamed Nader for Gore’s loss when we know it was the Supreme Court that settled that election.

We do own our own votes but it is useless if it isn’t counted somewhere. Give your vote to someone so you will be heard and help to preserve our Democracy. Now is the time to show the Democratic party, our country and the world that OUR perception of reality is not the same as Barack Obama’s reality.

(sorry…got on my soapbox but I believe, I deeply believe that after almost a decade of Bush this country can not take 4 years of Obama; don’t leave that top slot blank, it was one of the problems with the Florida election results.)

The Messiah sounds like Joseph Stalin deciding to run for office after having had all of his enemies disappear and then claiming that there are no restrictions on who the Party delegates can vote for.

Yes, nothing at all like insisting a vote was legitimate when your opponent’s name wasn’t on the ballot.

Seriously, there’s no reason to trust any of the vote-apportionment proposals that came out of Michigan. Going with the vote count, with Obama’s name ommitted? That’s no good. Can’t count a vote without everyone’s name on the ballout. Going with the exit polls? That’s no good. Can’t count a vote that’s not actually a vote.

Senator Clinton was perfectly fine (in fact, she pretty much endorsed) the removal of Michigan’s delegates up until it seemed that Obama was an actual contender, at which point it was tantamount voter supression.

Likewise, Senator Obama was perfectly fine with the restoration of Michigan’s delegates, until it seemed to put his campaign in jeopardy, at which point he started endorsing creative vote accountancy.

Neither campaign’s position is or ever was valid, with the exception of Senator Clinton’s first position: strip all the delegates according to DNC rules, and Michigan voters can turn their wrath upon their state party officials, not either campaign, for having their voices silenced. Florida should be similarly treated. Really, it’s quite simple: the DNC rules were clearly advertised, and everyone in question was aware of them and had plenty of time to fix or propose fixes ahead of time. No one did, the show-vote was held, the results discarded, all in accordance with the procdure everyone knew was in place, and only afterwards, when the results were suddenly known to truly matter, did anyone care.

Arguing to change clearly laid out rules after the fact isn’t kosher. They rules are the rules; neither state should have their delegates seated. If the voters of Michigan and Florida are displeased, they need to get behind reforming the rules for future cases; arguing about how to apportion votes when there’s no legitimate way to fairly do so is just a way to cause a great deal of trouble. No matter what the decision is, a large swath of Democrats are going to feel very upset; while appealing to the rules laid out beforehand may not cause less upset, it certainly avoids any chance to landing the blame anywhere other than where is squarely belongs: on every single Democrat who refused to institute fairness reforms before the votes were held.

Every. Last. Democrat.
