HERBERT (8/4/08): You guys have seen the ad a number of times, I am sure, and you have it here in-house. First thing you see are a couple of images of Britney Spears and Paris Hilton, right? And we see an image of Barack Obama right after that, comes quickly at the beginning of the ad. You remember that, right? Do you remember any other startling images right there at the beginning? All right. There is an image right there in that very beginning of the Leaning Tower of Pisa, and there is an image of the Washington Monument. Look at the beginning of that ad again. And you tell me why those two phallic symbols are placed there—pow!—right at the very beginning of that ad. I really wish somebody would answer the question—I think it’s really important. Why are those two phallic symbols in this ad…

Dear Editor, Times-Dispatch:
Each year I get to celebrate Independence Day twice. On June 30 I celebrate my independence day, and on July 4, I celebrate America ’s. This year is special, because it marks the 40th anniversary of my independence.
On June 30, 1968, I escaped Communist Cuba, and a few months later, I was in the United States to stay. That I happened to arrive in Richmond on Thanksgiving Day is just part of the story, but I digress.
I’ve thought a lot about the anniversary this year. The election-year rhetoric has made me think a lot about Cuba and what transpired there. In the late 1950s, most Cubans thought Cuba needed a change, so when a young leader came along, every Cuban was at least receptive.
When the young leader spoke eloquently and passionately and denounced the old system, the press fell in love with him. They never questioned who his friends were or what he really believed in. When he said he would help the farmers and the poor and bring free medical care and education to all, everyone followed. When he said he would bring justice and equality to all, everyone said, ‘Praise the Lord.’ And when the young leader said, ‘I will be for change and I’ ll bring you change,’ everone yelled, ‘Viva Fidel!’
But nobody asked about the change, so by the time the executioner’s guns went silent, the people’s guns had been taken away. By the time everyone was equal, they were equally poor, hungry, and oppressed. By the time everyone received their free education, it was worth nothing. By the time the press noticed, it was too late, because they were now working for him. By the time the change was finally implemented, Cuba had been knocked down a couple of notches to Third-World status. By the time the change was over, more than a million people had taken to boats, rafts, and inner tubes. You can call those who made it ashore anywhere else in the world the most fortunate Cubans. And now I’m back to the beginning of my story.
Luckily, we in America would never fall for a young leader who promised change without asking, what change? How will you carry it out? What will it cost America ?

When Obama was still planning his world tour, people were snarking about how he was trying to find just the right giant phallic symbol to use as a backdrop. It is kind of ironic, the alleged anti-war candidate chooses one of Hilter’s favorite phallic shaped monumnets to war.
Obama’s arrogance is pretty amazing. He deliberately stages his speech in front of that monument and then he’s also on record for saying, “I’m so over-exposed, I’m making Paris Hilton look like a recluse.” McCain took these two factors and ran with it. As for symbolism, Barack decided to speak in front of the Siegessäule because he was looking for a self important backdrop and because Chancellor Merkel of Germany told him to take a hike and not speak in front of the Brandenberg Gate — he and his staff apparently, were too insensitive to care, or didn’t bother to learn, that this monument is a symbol of German superiority in battle that Hitler simply loved. It has very troubling connotations. This of course was completley lost on Barack.
If Herbert and Olbie are trying to imply someone is making sexual references out of this, they are really diving into the shallow end of the pool. And, frankly, bonking themselves on the head.

The Clinton camp never race baited and avoided it like the dickens. She also could have called him on “typical white person” and “they [working class whites] cling… to antipathy towards those that aren’t like them… antipathy towards immigrants”, etc., etc., etc.
Obama and his motley crew, on the otherhand, were always resorting to race-baiting (as well as gender baiting and character assassination) through all manner of tortured logic, bait and switch or slight of hand tricks, cherrypicking, nitpicking, totally non-sequitur logic, revisionist history and grotesquely random explanations, e.g. non-existent phallic symbols, the Washington Monument, the Leaning Tower of Pisa and whatnot.
And it also set the script for how brutalizing Hillary would be carried out. Offense would be Obama’s best defense. He could explain away any possible outcry by making it seem like Hillary “deserved it.” The whole “say or do anything to win” was the same as calling her a “golddigger.”

Yes, African Amerians are still the victims of rampant racism, but African Americans are NOT the final authority in what is racist and what is not racist. Moreover, African Americans are NOT the moral center of America. Viewing any rap video would inform you of that. Yet Herbert, Robinson, Olberman, Maddow, Orlando Patterson, etc., all talk as if it is true. NO RACIAL, ETHNIC, RELIGIOUS, etc. GROUP CAN MAKE SUCH A DUBIOUS CLAIM.
For me, women are not just the moral center of America, but of the entire world. All men are good for is starting wars. The world’s millitaries should be run by men, but the world’s civilian governments should be run by women. The McCain ad makes no allusion to sex. It did NOT use the Washington Monument NOR the Leaning Tower of Pisa as at all, much less as phallic symbols.
