Obama just doesn’t like to be questioned …

Here’s another classic find by one of our readers, “Obama Doesn’t Really Like a Debate” that ties in perfectly with PatRacimora’s cartoon and commentary this morning. Thanks, TM. [STAY TUNED for a great post by Larry Johnson on Obama's thuggery in his treatment of the press. I added a new Category today to capture what is going on: "Obama's Media Censorship." Barack Obama is anti-First Amendment. What a position for a supposed assistant aka very, very part-time professor of lecturer in constitutional law.]

“Look what he pulled on the press who dared to ask him a question. Is this a new tactic…to accuse the press of working for McCain? Wow, finally a reporter doing [his] job. …”

RALSTON: I guess what the American people want to know though Senator, is what is the real difference between you and John McCain. You are running this ad tying him to the industry saying that he has taken all of these contributions, but as you well know there is a story out today about how you supported the Dick Cheney bill and [McCain] opposed it. That bill gave subsidies to the oil and gas companies, John McCain opposed the bill saying those are tax breaks for those companies, Barack Obama favored it.

SEN. OBAMA: Hold on a second Jon, I thought I was talking to you instead of debating John McCain, but I am happy to let you serve as his proxy.

Holy mother.

“Serve as his proxy”? Time was, reporters were paid to ask candidates tough questions. Ralston’s question is entirely legitimate, especially since Obama and the Democrats made Cheney’s energy policy a campaign issue in the first place. If Obama dislikes it so much, why did he vote for it — and why blame it on the one candidate in the race that actually voted against it?

In the rest of the interview, Ralston presses Obama on his policy reversals and asks him how voters can trust him not to shift again for political reasons.

Yeah. “No room on the plane for you.”

Won’t be long before the official “presidential” airplane is EMPTY - all journalists having been thrown under the bus.

Not to worry, it’s been such a hardship for “The Messiah” to have given his precious time and accommodation on his special plane to the hoi polloi for all these many months anyway.

The riffraff should never have been allowed anywhere near “The One,” after all…

The reporter may as well serve as McCain’s proxy since Senator Prom Queen won’t face Mac in a debate.

Comment by DoroB. | 2008-08-06 11:53:32

Surprise, surprise. Obama voted with big oil, then said he was really against it. What can we expect from the candidate who treats big supporters to meals and remembers their kids’ birthdays? What have you average folks done for Obama lately?

Comment by Havoc | 2008-08-06 12:27:46

If you listen to the answer you’ll hear that Sen Obama voted for the energy bill because it included several energy proposals that he wanted to have passed. It’s called compromise.

Comment by StrawberrybitesBarky | 2008-08-06 12:34:12

Oh yeah, right. Oh my God. You’re funny. See Obamabits do have a sense of humour. Hahahahahah!

Comment by candymarl | 2008-08-06 12:36:13

Okay, he’s willing to compromise. That makes him different from any other politician, how?

After all, a certain Senator from NY was vilified for her ability to seek compromise with Republicans. That somehow proved that she was a ‘closet Republican’ all along.

Where’s the change? He’s operating like any other DC politician. Which he and his supporters claimed he would not and does not do.

Comment by alexei | 2008-08-06 12:47:27

This is laughable. Look at the Bush/Cheney bill and you will see that it is a big tax subsidy for big oil and nuclear. There is very, very little on the “energy proposals Obama supposedly voted for” and it is called lying to say that is why you voted for such a bill.

This is amazing the lengths that Obama followers twist themselves in knots to justify their master and his flip flops, back tracks, both ways on the issues and outright lies.

Comment by LilRod | 2008-08-06 18:15:52

Sen Obama had opportunities going back to the Il Senate and the US Senate to fight against Yucca..yet he was absent & took no action.

Instead of admitting that and explaining why he did it he accused the reporter of supporting McCain.

But I thought Obama wasn’t like the other politicians? I thought his way was the “new” way?
Now if he behaves like another other politician it’s okay?

Obama’s economic adviser Jason Furman is in favor of privatizing social security. It sure sounds like the tax hike on investments - but wait! if you make less than 50K by the time Obama’s done with you, you don’t pay taxes (just like now.) Sounds like a ponzi scheme to me, and it’s in line with other policies of Obama’s.

Yes, see, that’s just an Obama talking point: equating McCain with Bush. Yes they overlap a lot, but actually McCain is very distinct from Bush in his approach and in the policies he’s fought for over the years. It doesn’t help Obama’s cause much to make untrue accusations.

There is an excellent short commentary by Jennifer Rubin on this worth reading:

“THOU SHALL NOT CHALLENGE”
http://www.commentarymagazine.com/blogs/index.php/rubin/19451

This is an interesting paragraph of it:

Second, notice his formulation that “the American people aren’t interested” in the tit-for-tat. To what was he referring? His own vote in favor of the Bush-Cheney bill. It really is a glaring problem in his whole New Politics formulation and his answer is weak (I tried to strip out the bad stuff) since he ultimately voted yes and has criticized McCain for doing the bidding of Bush/Cheney and the oil companies. It is easy to understand why he hopes the American people are uninterested. So add to the Thou Shalt Not’s: don’t question Obama’s own previous actions. Only his words (the latest version and not last week’s) can be discussed.

(Emphasis mine)

Susan, princess Obama need not answer any question and it is getting him into trouble more and more. Obama’s campaign has created a very positive image of him with more than full support from the media. Still, the public is not completely sold on him — because (IMO) there are too many unanswered questions about his bio and not enough evidence in terms of his accomplishments, his record. It is like everybody surrounding him and he himself are telling America, “take our word for it, he is amazing. You don’t worry your pretty little head with all details. ”

This relates to your other blogs on dual citizenship and such. Take a look at the picture below — I think it was Obama’s ‘06 trip to Africa, perhaps campaigning for his cousin Odinga (the speech transcripts are not available, I hear as usual). Historians on the board — have there been other presidents or presidential candidates who were closely related to some other foreign country campaigning for a candidate from that country in their elections? {I have a feeling Article II goes much beyond the citizenship issue. It requires one to have deep roots and unequivocal allegiance in this country — appearance and all for that number one position.}

Comment by Heather | 2008-08-06 14:12:09

Yes and you know why?

Because his white side is locked in a life-or-death struggle with his black side. They obviously hate each other, which is why he can’t celebrate — or even recognize — the rather large amount of racial harmony we actually enjoy in this country nor the accomplishments his predecessors in the black (and white) communities have made. He has to pick at it and open old wounds because his personal wounds are raw.

Comment by bemused | 2008-08-06 16:13:57

Yes! It’s just like that old Star Trek episode (how did that work out, anyway?)of the mirror twins who were black and white.

Seriously, it is obvious he hates the white part, just a few pages of his “Dreams” book is enough to get that. But then his story about his dad being like a king, and him the prince, I suspect he really did construct that in his childhood and then discovered the truth–what a comedown. Seems it would make him very cynical about his black side/black people too.

Course, he’s still got the Arab ancestors.

He is a spineless weasel and the McCain campaign has tapped into the core of Obama. His weaknesses, and faults are going to trip him up. Obama has had one position that he has not changed since June and that is his opposition to the Iraq War. That was easy at the time since he wasn’t running for office.

This answers many questions.

The infamous Dick Cheney pushed Energy Bill? AGAIN, Obama voted FOR THESE MAJOR CORPORATE SPECIAL INTEREST GIVEAWAYS. Hillary Clinton, AGAIN, OPPOSED IT, but so did John McCain.

Senate 213 29-Jul Agreed to Conference Report H. R. 6; Energy Policy Act of 2005
Vote Counts: YEAs 74
NAYs 26

Obama (D-IL), Yea
Clinton (D-NY), Nay
McCain (R-AZ), Nay

And the media is complicit, aiding in covering up facts and important truths to the public interest, because they see Barry benefiting and aiding them, ie control the internet so the networks stop losing to free press and democracy on the internets. Ask why Obama switched on FISA, too?

Blah, blah, blah….

“More importantly, I love debating…you…on your show.”

Is this political speak here at the end what all Obama’s fellow Senators like so much about their Chosen One? He must remind them alot of themselves.

The most interesting thing about this segment for me was…if I heard correctly… a little slip of the tongue by Obama when I thought he said, “Deposed” rather than “opposed”.

What could he have on his mind?

Hillary is tanned, rested and ready. At least I can infer this from a story a Washington Post reporter did on Bill Clinton’s marathon through Africa on behalf of his foundation. Noting that Clinton is still the same frenetic inexhaustible person, the reporter notes this exchange:

When I interviewed Clinton a night earlier, I broke the ice by saying I was trying to decide who had come closer to killing me — him or his wife, with her brutal campaign schedule. (She once made a 24-hour trip to California and back without pausing for a nap.)

Clinton laughed and responded that their personal trainer, a tough German athlete, had observed that “she’s actually stronger than she was when the campaign started, you know, physically.”

Oh, and for those who think Bill is a racist, listen to some of the itinerary:

At the same time, it was impossible to dwell too much on such logistical problems as lack of power or Internet access — even though not having either meant being unable to work — while looking out the window at the dust-covered mothers along the roadside in Rwanda, the crumbling, bullet-ridden walls sheltering families in Monrovia, the children crawling on piles of burning garbage in Dakar. Who were we to complain when, during one leg of the trip in Rwanda that involved helicopter rides out to the countryside, we did not have access to water for most of the day?

And he makes these trips even though he’s not running for anything.

Is that reporter’s name Jon or Matt?? I thought Obama called him by both names… once before he accused him of being Jmac by proxy, then at the end, I thought he said “see ya, Matt” or was that Man?

Obama seemed to be seething though his laughs and smiles. Yeah, he’ll see this reporter again, under his bus…

Comment by chuck | 2008-08-06 12:33:50

you people are insane.

this is a fraction of the sort of treatment the current administration gives the press.

Obama is certainly no saint, but he is FAAARRR better than the current admin. I think anyone who criticises obama, but not bush, is a partisan fool!

Comment by Hope Floats | 2008-08-06 12:36:58

I think anyone who can’t tell the difference between John McCain and GWB is a “partisan fool.”

Name calling really helps you seem so level headed and clear about issues… ;)

Comment by Leisa | 2008-08-06 12:40:20

BTW, Obama’s similarities to Bush in the area of dealing with being questioned is a big issue. That is one reason why many consider that Obama would be Bush III.

Comment by StrawberrybitesBarky | 2008-08-06 12:38:56

Uh, yeah and Barky isn’t even the nominee yet, just think how bad the prick would be if he actually managed to win the White House, scary, friggin’ thought.

I wonder if he is also getting messages from God like Bu$h does.

Excerpt from:

by Tony Blakely

“… the more I watch this man the more stunned I am at His overconfidence and towering pride. I have known a number of great and powerful men (and read biographies of many more), and they surely don’t lack confidence or ego. But who among the great would have answered the question posed to the junior senator from Illinois a few weeks ago as He did? Asked whether He had any doubts, He said “never.”

Is He so foolish as to think He has the world figured out to the last detail, or is He so proud of His intelligence that He cannot confess to ever having any doubt? Either explanation renders His judgment of dubious presidential caliber.

Here is a man who talked almost contemptuously of Gen. Petraeus. Explaining His differences with the general, He said that His “job is to think about the national security interest as a whole; (the generals’) job is just to get their job done (in Iraq).” Of course, right at the moment, the junior senator from Illinois doesn’t yet have “His” job, while Gen.
Petraeus, as confirmed Centcom commander, has direct responsibility for both Afghanistan and Iraq and everything in between and around them. But in the mind of Sen. I Am, He already is, while He thinks the man who is perhaps our greatest general in two generations is just another flunky carrying out routine orders. It is repulsive to see such a mentality in a man who would be president.”

Comment by s. hall | 2008-08-06 13:58:11

Tony Blankley missed one senario. Perhaps Obama is too insecure to admit he doesn’t know everything. He knows McCain and Hillary forgot more about Foreign Policy than he ever bothered to learn. If there was ever a post graduate course in stuttering however, Obama would receive his Doctorate. Eddie Haskell vs. Harry Truman which would you choose.

Many of us have been criticizing Bush for years.

That does not preclude pointing out Obama’s faults.

Or is that now verboten?

Comment by destardi | 2008-08-06 13:35:04

You sir, are a complete moron.

“partisan”

What part of “former Democrats who were shat on by the RBC and DNC fools howard dean and brazille” do you not get?

What part of obama-bush-bot do you not get? What part of “voted for retro FISA with republicans, open to offshore drilling with republicans, voted for cheney’s energy bill” do you NOT GET?!?

What part of “howard dean’s net gurus who helped him build his network signed on to obama’s campaign from the very beginning” (you know, the DNC CHAIRMAN!) do you NOT UNDERSTAND?

My God what a dummy. if just one of obama supporters had an IQ of 100, they’d be doing alright.

Compare Obama to Bush all you want. Fact is, Hillary NEVER treated the press like this. Only one of many reasons she would make a far better leader than the idiots we have on tap.

What does he support? And where is the proof he said anything he claimed to say? I haven’t seen a tape to verify his stories…..and there probably isn’t one. He doesn’t have the cajones to stand in front of the Senate to say anything unless it is for political expediency! He doesn’t stand for anything!

Then a simple follow up question to ask when His Messiahship renounced his Indonesian citizenship.

He wants to “expand nuclear wastes”! Wow, no wonder
GE (NBC and MSNBC) get tingles up its leg. GE counted on Americans trusting a black leader not to lie to them so it could have him sell us on nuclear
power plants, which BTW, are built by GE.

Of course, when it came to Exxelon’s (Bill Ayers’s father’s company) right to dump nuclear waste in his constituent’s water, Obama watered down the bill (and claimed he was in support of it). That was a cover story on the front page of the Sunday NYT before the super Tuesday primaries.

Also, I love the way Obama spouts that he did this and that in the Senate. After one year, rockstar was bored with policy and started on his endless campaign up the ladder.

Meanwhile, back in Obama’s district in Chicago, I have finally heard about what he accomplished for the black Southside (as opposed to wealthy, liberal U. of Chicago Hyde Park and the Rezkos)…fearful to speak,
the bottom line: Obama was in a position to do good, but he did not.

Think about that America! And why is the media selling him like it sold Bush over Gore, Bush over Kerry, and the Iraq War?

I get so sick of his condescending, talk down to everyone attitude! He is DEFENSIVE and says NOTHING to address the question! He says NOTHING and talks in circles! Comment by Flea | 2008-08-06 12:56:11

Obama is very effective at wiggling his way out of obvious contradictory positions when he’s questioned, mostly because he’s allowed to.

First, he sets a very broad statement as the baseline which “he’s always said from the very beginning”, then he proceeds to blur his ‘new’ position.

But before you can point out the contradiction, he moves on to summarily admonish the questioner for dwelling on the issue in the ‘previous’ context, and proceeds to re-frame the issue in a future context as “what the American people really want to know”, or “what the American people are really interested in”.

When he’s done, the interviewer rarely gets to persist and go back to hold him accountable for his contradictions.

For a guy who has switched his position so many times so blatantly, the press should be collectively ashamed of themselves for not being able to pin him down.

Recall the story involving the Emperor without clothing he as Obama wrongly believes the American People see a wardrobe in there somewhere
What choice dose he have, by the way, he is in a box what’s he going to say McCain ripped off my protective cape by calling me on my scam last week and I can no longer blunt your probing by dismissing your observation, question, or fact, as coming from just another oppressor a hater fearful of my Difference lol so now I have to make shit up cause, I have no experience or real record deeds consistent positions I can claim while in office other than winning the seat. ROOKIE and it shows.

Obama’s indignation at being questioned aggressively and challenged on his assumptions would bode very badly indeed for him should he be elected president. I can’t imagine the White House press corps rolling over for him the way that people like Chris Matthews do.

As a Hillary supporter in conflict with my husband..
I have visited here constantly for a long time.
I am a shy person but must say a few things.

1. I agree with most of what is posted here.

2. John McCain’s offering his wife up as “Miss Buffalo Chip” in front of ten’s of thousands male “show me your tits” bikers at Sturgis..with the daughter present, I cannot really believe that any woman would even consider voting for this trash.

A close Hillary feminist friend sent me this..
“Both First Lady and Miss Buffalo Chip”
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=phjDm05E9Qw

Sorry, as a 59 year old woman who fought for the ERA back in the 70’s, no level of my distrust for Obambi would ever have me vote for McCain.
I cannot believe that any real woman (maybe the men) would vote for McCain.

Comment by cathnealon | 2008-08-06 17:21:01

judy
look at it this way
there are men who don’t know that they’re behaving slimily
And then there are men who are deeply deeply misogynistic but who come off like they’re not BO’s the second one and it’ll be too late if he’s elected don’t be fooled
McCain’s a painful choice but if Hillary’s not the nominee then it’s McCain–sometimes you have to see past the obvious

Really Judy, well then so by god be it. Don’t vote for him, but don’t use some piss ass excuse like that. If you knew John and Cindy’s relationship, then you knew he was kidding. But hey, harbor on. And where oh where is the miss militant Michelle? Still getting her “subtle make-over”. Cindy McCain is a woman who is quite comfortable with herself and I admire that in her. If she is offended, which I doubt, then it is up to her to say something, now isn’t it? As a woman about your age, I’m getting pretty damn tired of people like you trying to pass your ideas on how a woman should or should not be treated. I was an ERA supporter and organizer and it certainly did not bother me. I considered the crowd and how I know the McCains to be. But piss away your vote of Obama.

Comment by tina | 2008-08-06 19:27:25

Obama’s arrogance is appalling. He’s rude and insulting. His responses are, I would say, snake like in their deceptiveness, if that wasn’t an insult to snakes (which are beautiful creatures). Listening to Barack makes me nauseous. It’s unfortunate that so many Americans lack the street smarts and/or intuition to see through his slimey double-speak.

Excuse me. I’m going to shower now.

Obana’s claim that he said at that time “we should strip out those tax breaks for oil companies” was disputed in this article:

http://thecurrentpodcast.com/bob/?p=268

I also checked the 109th (2005-2006) congress’s record. There were six times the words “tax” and “break” appear in records about ENERGY POLICY ACT OF 2005 for Obama in 2005. Obama did not mention tax break for oil companies in any of them. Here is the link for searching congressional record:
