Obama, The Paper Lion?

newwebangry-lion-cartoon_ed.jpg

newwebfrightened-lion-carto.jpg

Bring on Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and every other unfriendly world leader and Obama will sit down and chat with them directly. And, according to the Associated Press, “In May, when a McCain adviser proposed a series of pre-convention appearances at town hall meetings, Obama said, ‘I think that’s a great idea…Obviously, we would have to think through the logistics on that, but … if I have the opportunity to debate substantive issues before the voters with John McCain, that’s something that I am going to welcome.’”

Alas, not unlike the Lion from the Wizard of Oz, Obama was just messin’ with us.
Is Obama a Paper Lion, similar to the concept of Paper Tiger? The original use of the term was used by the Chinese to negatively characterize what they saw as imperialistic nations (such as ourselves and the Soviet Union). In 1956 Mao Zedong declared that despite the appearance of power there was nothing to be afraid of. Mao’s application was faulty back then (can you spell “nuclear weapons”?), but it may fit who Obama is now with regards to stepping up to the plate and fulfilling his promises: “Outwardly a tiger, it is made of paper, unable to withstand the wind and the rain.”

I guess it would look too suspect for Obama to duck out of the three traditional post-convention debates, that is, if you can call asking canned questions (some of which are invariably stupid) with tightly timed answers and no opportunity for sustained interaction “debates.” (FYI, those dates are September 26th, October 7th, and October 15th.)

In the meantime we will just have to keep guessing who Obama really is and what it is he firmly stands for.

First, you’d be hard pressed to find any original Oblowme ideas. If they are decent he got them from another candidate.

If they’re racist look to his family and friends.

Oblowme didn’t write for any of the schools he attended and

he doesn’t even write his own speeches.

The real issue is that Oblowbe can’t be trusted.

Oblowme has always strongly held a Black Liberation belief system – the same as Farrakhan.

Which explains how Oblowme could hang with Uncle Wright for over 20 years and marry MEchelle of TUCC.

Ayers’ and Dohrn’s anti-American terrorist actions and rhetoric would be treason to McCain, but Oblowme laps it up

He’s THE ONE sick bastard.

Comment by katmandu | 2008-08-06 08:21:52

Lispolaris, this may cement your beliefs:

In Obama Campaign, Big Donors Are a Major Force

In an effort to cast himself as independent of the influence of money on politics, Senator Barack Obama often highlights the campaign contributions of $200 or less that have amounted to fully half of the $340 million he has collected so far.

But records show that one-third of his record-breaking haul has come from donations of $1,000 or more: a total of $112 million, more than Senator John McCain, Mr. Obama’s Republican rival, or Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton, his opponent in the Democratic primaries, raised in contributions of that size.

Behind those larger donations is a phalanx of more than 500 Obama “bundlers,” fund-raisers who have each collected contributions totaling $50,000 or more. Many of the bundlers come from industries with critical interests in Washington. Nearly three dozen of the bundlers have raised more than $500,000 each, including more than a half-dozen who have passed the $1 million mark and one or two who have exceeded $2 million, according to interviews with fund-raisers.

While his campaign has cited its volume of small donations as a rationale for his decision to opt out of public financing for the general election, Mr. Obama has worked to build a network of big-dollar supporters from the time he began contemplating a run for the United States Senate. He tapped into well-connected people in Chicago prior to the 2004 Senate race, and once elected, set out across the country starting to cultivate some of his party’s most influential money collectors.

Why did Barack Obama lie about the donations

Comment by Deelee | 2008-08-06 10:41:57

Because he’s a liar. I just found this on another web site. I thought it was illegal for candidates to take money from sources outside the USA. Shouldn’t he be made to give it back?

“The brothers Edwan hail from Rafah, GA. That’s GA as in Gaza, not Georgia. They contributed a whopping $29,521.54 to Senator Obama’s campaign, more than 13 times the legal limit that applies to American citizens. And as foreigners, they’re not even allowed to contribute”.

Comment by BernieO | 2008-08-06 08:29:13

I think he is just willing to do whatever it takes to be president. He doesn’t stand for anything. I have been ranting this morning (on this site and at the NYObserver) about the Obama painting Bill Clinton as a racist. The stupidity of the media and Democratic party leaders in favoring Obama when it is Clinton who had the guts to stand up against racism in Arkansas. Obama is a spineless, self-centered adolescent who caves on anything if it benefits him. His one consistent goal seems to have been a belief that he will “heal” this country’s racial division yet he has repeatedly been willing to use character assassination by playing the race card against people like Bill and Hillary, inflaming racial tensions.
The man is a gutless wonder.

His latest speeches against McCain are notable for two things:
First, he called McCain a “liar” – a word that most politicians shy away from.
Second, he called the McCain group “ignorant”. Now, I don’t know the code words that Gergen thinks that McCain uses that are racist words that whites use, but having made films with black filmmakers, I recognize the adjective “ignorant” as a favorite one that they liked to use for racists. I don’t think Obama’s choice of words was accidental.

Comment by fif | 2008-08-06 08:42:37

Apparently there is a NY Times article today confirming what we have known all along: most of Obama’s money comes from large donors that he has zealously courted for a long time. He has raised more from large donors than both McCain or Clinton.

As Riverdaughter asks: “Wonder what he promised all those Wall St. investors and hedge fund managers to make them so excited about his candidacy?”

Privatizing Social Security perhaps?

Comment by Uppity Woman | 2008-08-06 08:53:22

Well he hates old people anyhow, so why not pull the rug out from under them? His top ten contributors have been Wall Street creditors and sup primers since Day One. We are talking JP Morgan, Goldman Sachs, Citibank, Lehman Brothers. This guy is nothing more than a greasy hoax upon the little people. If you recall he voted NO to capping interest rates on charge cards. He voted NO to a THIRTY PERCENT CAP! He said he voted NO because the cap was “TOO HIGH”. To quote John Edwards, “So NO cap is better?!!”

This really blew me out of my socks:

I was just now over at HLF’s blog, she has a link to Obama’s website with the following event announcement:

quote:

pray for HRC and her supporters (community Service)

….we can’t wait for Hillary to see the light on her own, we need to begin praying for her and her supporters now.
Please commit to praying for them daily:
1)stop trying to hurt the Obama’s and the Democratic Party
2) pray God will speak to them all and change their hearts so their only persuit will be party unity and wholeheartedly backing Sen. Obama

….

unquote.

Well, he did say that Social Security is in trouble and something had to be done. Bush type code words for “I’ll let my Wall Street cronies get their hands on your safety net money so they can do to it what they did to everything else they touched.”
I’m guessing all those former ENRON employees and others that had retirement funds invested are glad they have Social Security to fall back on. Now Obama wants to give that away too. Obama is no Democrat.

Did you do the art work? Nice stuff. The second picture is adorable — not what we want in a presidential candidate — but adorable enough for a kids’ book.

Oh, the wheels of the bus go clunk clunk clunk this morning as another Obama adviser resigns. http://online.wsj.com/public/article/SB121797906741214995.html?mod=special_page_campaign2008_leftbox This was served nine days as the Muslim coordinator for the Obama campaign.

If Obama were to squeak in as President, can you imagine the turnover in his cabinet? There’d be a new headline every week or so.

The WSJ story is a bit thin — I imagine it will be fleshed out as more becomes known.

Comment by Clinton Fan | 2008-08-06 08:36:50

Wow, between WSJ and NYT, the hits just keep on coming!!! Your cite has some interesting stuff in it:

The Muslim-outreach coordinator to the presidential campaign of Barack Obama has resigned amid questions about his involvement in an Islamic investment fund and various Islamic groups.

Chicago lawyer Mazen Asbahi, who was appointed volunteer national coordinator for Muslim American affairs by the Obama campaign on July 26, stepped down Monday after an Internet newsletter wrote about his brief stint on the fund’s board, which also included a fundamentalist imam.

“Mr. Asbahi has informed the campaign that he no longer wishes to serve in his volunteer position, and we are in the process of searching for a new national Arab American and Muslim American outreach coordinator,” spokesman Ben LaBolt said in a statement.

A corporate lawyer at the firm of Schiff Hardin LLP, Mr. Asbahi tendered his resignation after he and the Obama campaign received emailed inquiries about his background from The Wall Street Journal. He did not respond to the email or a message left at his law office; the campaign released a letter in which Mr. Asbahi said he did not want to be a distraction.

The Obama campaign is trying to strike a balance between courting Muslim American voters and dispelling rumors intended by some to link the candidate to radical Islam. Sen. Obama is a Christian.

Speaking as a man, not a human whose equipment differentiates him from a woman, but as a man, Barrack Obama is no man.
I’ve even known some damn fine excuses for men and even they would be insulted at his inclusion in their midst.
Everyone has their own definitions for what a man is…
And here with all you sisters, I’m more than aware that there are some definitions which might even make my ears burn. :)
I believe that any true man must have this characteristic in ample doses: The ability to not only admit he is wrong but to TAKE RESPONSIBILITY for it.
Barry has “said all along,” and “been for it from the start,” on both sides of so many things that the above criteria and he are completely incompatible.
I also believe that saying what you stand for means standing and saying it even if it means getting thumped. Been there, done that, got the f**king shirt.
Many of you here, especially you who marched for yourselves and others have stood for what you believe and not wavered.
So far the only unwavering Barry has done has been his resolute attention to his own reflection.

With less than 90 days to go, Team Obama has not yet released the following fairly routine requests for documents. Surely we. the People have the right to know who we are going to entrust with our country before we give him the keys.

1. Certified Copy of original Birth certificate
2. Columbia College records
3. Columbia Thesis paper
4. Certification of Live Birth
5. Harvard College records
6. Illinois State Senate records
7. Illinois State Senate schedule
8. Law practice client list and billing records/summary
9. Locations of all step-siblings and step-mothers
10. Medical records
11. Occidental College records
12. Parent’s Marriage Certificate
13. Record of baptism
14. Selective Service Registration
15. Trips schedules for trips outside of the United States before 2007
16. University of Chicago scholarly articles
17. Campaign donor analysis requested by 7 major watchdog groups

and finally, Senator Obama, the People would like to meet your maternal grandmother. Why wont you allow anyone to go near her in Hawaii. She can hardly say something that could be fatal to your run for the Presidency?

Comment by Clinton Fan | 2008-08-06 08:41:59

John McCain’s mom is what, ninety six? He didn’t try to muzzle her, either–she did a LONG interview on C-Span where she waxed eloquently on a variety of topics…and told the interviewer that those Republicans would have to “hold their nose” and vote for her son. It was funny!

I’m not a Republican, but it does seem odd that Obama’s granny is so…sequestered.

Unless she suffers from dementia (and if she does, why not say so?) it seems a bit…presumptuous…to muzzle her so aggressively.

Comment by educatedwhitewoman | 2008-08-06 10:51:19

Of all the signs that Barack Obama is not qualified to retain his senate seat, let alone run ANY nation, let alone the U.S., his reticence at debating John McCain (or anyone for that matter) is the biggest tell. It shows a man completely unsure of himself (hubris often hides insecurity anyway) and lacking in the fundamental core tenants of adulthood. Essentially, he’s a child playing grown up games and he will NOT be questioned on it.

Truly disturbing.

Obama and his camp are hypcrites and their followers are stupid to not see through their rhetoric of being all things to everyone.

Their family values (or any value for anyone) can be seen in this website and video that is being advertised on FaceBook and My Space. Their attempt to sell our kids on Obama, through only having sex with a Democrat (subliminal message being that Repubs are not cool), is so harmful to society. Just ‘hooking up’ with anyone – the girl in the video doesn’t even get the guy’s name right, but they’re ready to have sex. And when she ends up suddenly pregnant or with an STD, I guess Planned Parenthood and the taxpayers’ money will take care of both.

This video (this whole website), is shameful and shows just what the Dem Party is getting with an Obama presidency.

Great post. Another one he will not talk to is Sean Hannity.

I received a letter and a request for a donation, in the mail today, from Barack Obama.

On the front of the envelope it has in bold letters, “This is our moment. This is out time”

Here are a few statements made in the letter. What a joke. “When the commitment of the Democratic Party and the hopeful spirit of the American people cone together, we have the POWER to CHANGE this country, and TRANSFORM THE WORLD… But to bring about this change we so desperately need, we have to overcome the forces of FEAR and division that the other side has made a central part of their campaign”, It goes on to mention Iraq and al-Qaeda. ” Working together, UNITED around the values and principles that we share as Democrats, we can move beyond yesterday’s policies – but only if our party has the RESOURCES to make our MESSAGE OF HOPE HEARD FAR AND WIDE across this country. That’s why I hope you will seize this moment of GREAT OPPORTUNITY FOR OUR PARTY and our nation by RUSHING a GENEROUS contribution…Make no mistake: it will require an ENORMOUS amount of resources to build the national grassroots movement that is as the heart of our Campaign for Change.”

Must be desperate times for Obama. I will be sending back the envelope, I will not be “using my own first-class stamp, so I can save the DNC much needed funds.” I will donate today to McCain, just so I can have the tire gauge, ( after all , it will be my way of supporting Obama’s energy plan ), Then I will send the receipt along with a little note stating that “I have already made a contibution for our country by purchasing a tire gauge and I will encourage everyone I know to do the same to help our great country during this energy crisis. Then I will sign it, PUMA – NO DEAL

I just had a wicked thought. Remember back when Bush the Lesser had his pretzel incident? Germans sent him bags of them in appreciation. Wouldn’t it be funny if Obama’s donation mailers were returned with pictures of tire gauges or the wrappers?

Comment by pasmalltowngirl | 2008-08-06 10:10:39

Oh, after I receive my tire-gauge, I will also be sending that to the DNC, as I want NOTHING in my house with Barry’s name on it. Just looking at it would cause me tremendous stress.

Obama said, ‘I think that’s a great idea…Obviously, we would have to think through the logistics on that, but…’

Same rhetoric he used when tons of possible solutions to MI and FL were put forward during the primaries. Oh, how nicely he would talk about how he was “all for” solving the problem and doing the right thing by those voters – but he always, “somehow,” found “the logistics” lacking – always making sure no actual solution was ever allowed to be implemented – always working behind the scenes to undermine exactly what he was “in favor of” publicly. From the beginning it was all a set-up and a lie – as is everything with this fraud.

That’s always his M.O. Publicly he plays the good guy so behind the scenes his thugs can do just the opposite. And his minions in the media, as planned, make sure they never look beyond his public statements so they can attribute only the best motives to what we know are anything but…

For the debates, he will still be given a pillow, McCain will go first for all questions and at some point, they will bring him a hot steamy waffle and he will just sit there and eat and the press and his minions will gawk at how well he eats.

Great job once again, Pat!

I thought Cal Thomas was good today.

http://www.calthomas.com/index.php?news=2335

Here is a snippet (emphasis mine):

Do these guys really believe what they’re saying about each other? If so, perhaps we need two different candidates.

When McCain first proposed a series of town hall meetings with no journalists, Obama said it was a good idea. But then Obama, or his handlers, apparently thought better of it. His camp has agreed only to the three scheduled fall debates, presided over by journalists, many of whom see themselves as co-equal with the candidates.

Apparently, the Obama camp thinks it can preserve its small lead in most polls by not giving McCain too many platforms. How does this conform to Obama’s image of conciliation and working together?

That image is beginning to unravel. The Weekly Standard reports on Obama’s “lost years” as a state legislator, noting he was the antithesis of the cross-aisle conciliator. “Obama is bipartisan so long as that means asking Republicans to take incremental steps toward his own broader goals,” writes Stanley Kurtz. “When it comes to compromising with the other side, however, Obama says ‘take a hike.’”

“The real Obama? … Fundamentally, he is a big-government redistributionist,” says Kurtz, who offers examples of Obama’s partisan Illinois legislative record. Included are his writings for and coverage by two Chicago publications, the Hyde Park Herald, Chicago’s oldest community newspaper, and the Chicago Defender, once the nation’s most influential African-American daily.

Combing through the archives of those newspapers, Kurtz concludes, “What they portray is a Barack Obama sharply at variance with the image of the post-racial, post-ideological, bipartisan, culture-war-shunning politician familiar from current media coverage and purveyed by the Obama campaign. As details of Obama’s early political career emerge into the light, his associations with such radical figures as Reverend Jeremiah Wright, Father Michael Pfleger, Reverend James Meeks, Bill Ayers, and Bernardine Dohrn look less like peculiar instances of personal misjudgment and more like intentional political partnerships. At his core, in other words, the politician chronicled here is profoundly race-conscious, exceedingly liberal, free-spending even in the face of looming state budget deficits, and partisan. Elected president, this man would presumably shift the country sharply to the left on all the key issues of the day, culture-war issues included. It’s no wonder Obama has passed over his Springfield years in relative silence.”

Another great cartoon, Pat.

If you remember back, the last debate between Hillary and Obama, she cleaned his clock. He refused to debate anymore with Hillary. One more debate and Ob would have exposed himself further and maybe the press would have turned on him.

Now, if I were Ob the Great, I’d love to get on stage with McCain. What is OB afraid of? McCain can barely stand up and his words dribble all over the place. But OB is afraid of McCain. Why?
Because OB can be further exposed. He can only talk in front of his supporters and he has to know the text so he doesn’t say something stupid, like “57 States”, or “…send the arabic speakers to Afganistan”.

If I were McCain, I’d be saying “He’s afraid to debate me in a town-hall meeting. If he’s afraid of me on our own soil, what will he do with our “unfriendly leaders elsewhere?” Ob is AFRAID
…would make a good bumpersticker.

Comment by MrMike | 2008-08-06 10:05:16

That’s a really big maybe. The print and broadcast media are in the tank for Obama. They would report the outcome in favor of him even if he blew it. The only question about the media love affair is, will he be their prom date after the coronation or will they leave him standing at the curb?

Obama’s Global Poverty Act (I think.) It has passed the Senate and it gives 845 BILLION dollars to the UN. If this amount has to be borrowed it will be something like 1.5 Trillion that comes out of yours and my pockets. Somewhere on another PC at another location I have it written down and may be able to post it later.

The more people see, hear, and learn about Obama, the more they learn how much he is just made up of paper speeches and how easy he will be to manipulate buy the usual powers.

I wonder what Hillary would do if she was in Obama’s place?

well, look, i’m sorry it hurts your feelings. but if you’re going to publicize your work, you will get criticism. i think it’s clever sometimes but i think it’s too cartoonish to be effective. i should have made a substantive criticism before, instead of merely a jab, and i apologize for that.

Yaz, have you read
Former National Security Adviser Zbigniew Brzezinski (ZB) book, The Grand Chessboard: American Primacy and Its Geostrategic Imperatives?

If not, I STRONGLY suggest you do so before you make statements that promote the fallacy that Sen Obama would get involved in LESS military action than Sen McCain.

ZB is a VERYimportant foreign policy advisor for Sen Obama- Probably the most important advisor.

ZB is an international war criminal. Do your homework…find out why…

That little mosquito Obama plant, Yaz, is really getting to be quite a pest. Makes you want to get out the insect spray! He obviously is kind of stupid and unsophisticated and has no appreciation for clever and pithy cartoons such as yours….which are always right on point. I wonder what his of concept art is, as it surely must be a narrow, distorted one. He loves to apply brief stinging bites to anyone with good comments and to try to degrade the site. He says nobody takes this site seriously, but obviously he does, or he wouldn’t be hanging around like a mosquito taking jabs at every comment. His favorite descriptive terms seem to be stupid and shit. Yaz, why don’t you just buzz off and go to the Daily Koz or inflict your insults elsewhere?

As for your cartoons, Pat, they are appreciated here by those with good critical skills and intelligence. The comments by others suggesting other captions such as cowardly lion, tin man, straw man, etc. show that most of the commentators do get the essence of the anointed one, who is a weak sham of a presidential hopeful. The question about what he actually did as editor of the law review seems appropriate. Perhaps it is about as much as he has accomplished in the senate. Indeed, he is a paper-thin, wilting lion, or perhaps really just a kitty-cat. He is losing it in the polls as people wake up to his paper thin qualifications, flip-flopping, and lack of substance. Bring Hillary back out of limbo and get her nominated at the convention.

It has to look bad for Obama to duck open debates with McCain. Obama’s followers think he’s the most talented natural speaker around, yet he can’t compete with Mr. Alzheimers Magoo?

Obama is all script and message. He’s either Chance The Gardener or the Manchurian Candidate of political fixers, race-baiting preachers and domestic rich kid terrorists.

There’s something terrifying about someone unknown and unknowable being this close to power.
