“Painful”

This ad is very effective. I worry that not every American has realized yet that, in 2005, Barack Obama chose to side with his lobbyist benefactors over the American people, and that he voted FOR the Bush-Cheney Energy bill. Hillary Clinton or John McCain voted against the bill.

Imho, that alone is reason enough to not nominate Barack Obama. “Words? Just words?” Well, sadly, that is all they are, Mr. Obama. When push comes to shove, you ALWAYS side with your money men. You didn’t give a single thought to the AMERICAN PEOPLE.

I just had to get that off my chest. If every American voter KNEW that Barack Obama voted WITH Dick Cheney and George Bush on energy and profiteering for big energy companies, there’d be no doubt who should be nominated.

This ad is about the average American family:

From the McCain campaign — which this blog does not endorse, but recognizes for its ability to point out the stark differences not only between John McCain and Barack Obama but also between Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama:

ARLINGTON, VA — U.S. Senator John McCain’s presidential campaign today released its latest television ad, entitled “Painful.” The ad highlights Barack Obama’s record of voting to raise taxes on middle class families and his proposals for painful tax increases that will only further hurt those already struggling with higher gas prices, higher food prices and the threat of home foreclosure. The last thing we need to do is raise taxes that force families to make even tougher choices with less money in their pockets. The ad will air in key states.

Script For “Painful” (TV :30)

ANNCR: Life in the spotlight must be grand, but for the rest of us times are tough.

Obama voted to raise taxes on people making just $42,000.

He promises more taxes on small business, seniors, your life savings, your family.

Painful taxes, hard choices for your budget. Not ready to lead. That’s the real Obama.

JOHN MCCAIN: I’m John McCain and I approved this message.

AD FACTS: Script For “Painful” (TV :30)

ANNCR: Life in the spotlight must be grand, but for the rest of us times are tough. Obama voted to raise taxes on people making just $42,000.

· Barack Obama Voted Twice In Favor Of The Democrats’ FY 2009 Budget Resolution. (S. Con. Res. 70, CQ Vote #85: Adopted 51-44: R 2-43; D 47-1; I 2-0, 3/14/08, Obama Voted Yea; S. Con. Res. 70, CQ Vote #142: Adopted 48- 45: R 2- 44; D 44- 1; I 2-0, 6/4/08, Obama Voted Yea)

· FactCheck.org: The Budget Resolution Would Have Allowed Most Of The Provisions Of The 2001 And 2003 Tax Cuts To Expire, Effectively Raising Taxes On Those Making $41,500 In Total Income. “What Obama voted for was a budget resolution that would have allowed most of the provisions of the 2001 and 2003 tax cuts to expire. In particular, the resolution would allow the 25 percent tax bracket to return to its pre-2001 level of 28 percent. That bracket kicks in at $32,550 for an individual or $65,100 for a married couple. But as those of you who have filled out a 1040 know, that’s not actually how income taxes work. We don’t pay taxes on our total earnings; we pay them based on our ‘taxable income.’ The Urban-Brookings Tax Policy Center’s Eric Toder told FactCheck.org that ‘people with taxable income of $32,000 would have a total income greater than that.’ In 2008, anyone filing taxes with single status would be entitled to a standard deduction of $5,450, as well as a personal exemption of $3,500. So to have a taxable income high enough to reach the 25 percent bracket, an individual would need to earn at least $41,500 in total income, while a married couple would need a combined income of at least $83,000.” (”The $32,000 Question,” FactCheck.org, http://www.factcheck.org, 7/8/08)

· FactCheck.org: “Obama’s Votes Indicate A Willingness To Raise Taxes.” “Certainly Obama’s votes indicate a willingness to raise taxes, and Obama has not been shy about saying explicitly that he will raise some taxes.” (”The $32,000 Question,” FactCheck.org, http://www.factcheck.org, 7/8/08)

· Obama Campaign: Barack Obama Voted For A Budget Resolution That Wouldn’t Have Increased Taxes For Any Taxpayers Making Less Than $41,500. ROSEN: “Campaign aides to Senator Obama today, called the charge that he voted for tax hikes on people making only $32,000 a year, quote, ‘bogus.’ They circulated an analysis stating that the resolution that Obama had voted for would not have increase taxes on single taxpayer making less than $41,500 a year in total income.” (Fox News’ “America’s Election Headquarters,” 7/30/08)

· The New York Times: Barack Obama’s “Vote Was On A Budget Resolution To Raise Taxes On People Making $41,500 A Year.” “FactCheck.org, a nonpartisan Web site, said the vote was on a budget resolution to raise taxes on people making $41,500 a year; the $32,000 figure, it said, was the amount of taxable income those people had.” (Michael Cooper, “McCain Goes Negative, Worrying Some In GOP,” The New York Times, 7/30/08)

· The Associated Press: Budget Resolution “Would Have Allowed Tax Rates To Return To Pre-2001 Levels, Meaning That An Individual With Taxable Income Of About $32,000 Would Have Faced A Tax Increase.” “At issue is Obama’s vote on a non-binding budget resolution in March that called for President Bush’s tax cuts to expire. Such a step would have allowed tax rates to return to pre-2001 levels, meaning that an individual with taxable income of about $32,000 would have faced a tax increase. Taxable income is what’s left after taxpayers account for deductions.” (Liz Sidoti, “Obama Dismisses Conservative Criticism,” The Associated Press, 7/12/08)

· In June 2008, Obama Said “The Senate Voted To Stand Up For Working Families In Illinois And Throughout The Nation” By Passing The Democrats’ Final Budget Resolution. Obama: “Today the Senate voted to stand up for working families in Illinois and throughout the nation by rejecting the failed policies of the Bush Administration and moving our country back on track to fiscal discipline. … Our country needs change, and this budget is an important step in the right direction. I commend House and Senate leaders for working together to move this legislation through Congress.” (Sen. Barack Obama, “Statement Of Senator Barack Obama On The Senate ’s Passage Of The FY 2009 Budget Resolution,” Press Release, obama.senate.gov, 6/4/08)

· In March 2008, Obama Hailed His Vote For The Budget As Making “Significant Progress In Getting Our Nation’s Priorities Back On Track.” Obama: “The budget passed by the Senate tonight makes significant progress in getting our nation’s priorities back on track. … We need change in this country, and this budget is an important step in helping bring it about.” (Sen. Barack Obama, “Obama Statement On The Senate’s Passage Of The FY 2009 Budget,” Press Release, obama.senate.gov, 3/14/08)

ANNCR: He promises more taxes on small business, seniors, your life savings, your family. Painful taxes, hard choices for your budget. Not ready to lead. That’s the real Obama. JOHN MCCAIN: I’m John McCain and I approved this message.

· Barack Obama Has Called For Higher Income Taxes, Social Security Taxes, Capital Gains And Dividend Taxes, And Corporate Taxes, As Well As “Massive New Domestic Spending.” “Obama’s transformation, if you go by his campaign so far, would mean higher income taxes, higher Social Security taxes, higher investment taxes, higher corporate taxes, massive new domestic spending, and a healthcare plan that perhaps could be the next step to a full-scale, single-payer system. Is that what most Americans want, someone who will fulfill a Democratic policy wish list?” (James Pethokoukis, “Barack Hussein Reagan? Ronald Wilson Obama?” U.S. News & World Report’s “Capital Commerce” Blog, www.usnews.com, 2/12/08)

· Barack Obama Would Raise Social Security (Payroll) Taxes On Families. “Obama’s proposal … would impose social security taxes on income above $250,000 per year. He would continue to exempt income between $102,000 and $250,000 from social security taxes.” (Teddy Davis, Sunlen Miller, and Gregory Wallace, “Obama Kisses Billions Goodbye,” ABC News’ “Political Radar” Blog, blogs.abcnews.com, 6/18/08)

· Barack Obama Would Raise Income Taxes. Obama: “[I] would roll back the Bush tax cuts for those making over $250,000.” (Sen. Barack Obama, CNN Democrat Presidential Candidate Debate, Manchester, NH, 6/3/07)

· U.S. Department Of Treasury: Small Business Owners “Are Frequently Subject To The Highest Individual Income Tax Rates.” “Changes in the individual income tax affect most businesses in the United States. That is because taxes on business earnings are often paid through the individual income tax when ‘passed-through’ to business owners. The business income from sole proprietorships, farm proprietorships, partnerships, S corporations, etc., is all taxed at the owners’ individual income tax rates. This year 34 million business owners are expected to receive this type of income and pay tax on this income through the individual income tax. These businesses are typically small and often entrepreneurial in nature, and a source of innovation and risk-taking in the economy. Moreover, these business owners are frequently subject to the highest individual income tax rates.” (”Topics Related To The President’s Tax Relief,” U.S. Departm ent Of Treasury, http://www.ustreas.gov/press/releases/reports/president_taxrelief_topics_0508.pdf, May 2008)

· Barack Obama Would Raise Capital Gains And Dividend Taxes. “Sen. Obama wants to raise the long-term capital-gains rate for families making more than $250,000 to around 20 percent or somewhat higher but not above the 28 percent level it reached during the Reagan presidency, an Obama economic adviser says. The same rate would apply to most dividend income for these investors.” (Tom Herman, “Tax Report Your Tax Bill: How McCain, Obama Differ,” The Associated Press, 6/18/08)

· In 2006, Over 26.7 Million U.S. Taxpayers Reported Capital Gains Income. (Internal Revenue Service Website, “Individual Income And Tax Data, By State And Size Of Adjusted Gross Income, Tax Year 2006,” www.irs.gov, Accessed 7/30/08)

· In 2006, Over 31.5 Million U.S. Taxpayers Reported Dividend Income. (Internal Revenue Service Website, “Individual Income And Tax Data, By State And Size Of Adjusted Gross Income, Tax Year 2006,” www.irs.gov, Accessed 7/30/08)

· Barack Obama Called For Tax Hikes On “Dirty Energy” Such As Coal And Natural Gas. Obama: “What we ought to tax is dirty energy, like coal and, to a lesser extent, natural gas.” (”Q&A With Sen. Barack Obama,” San Antonio Express-News, 2/19/08)

· Even Barack Obama Admits That His Tax Increases May Harm The Economy. CNBC’S JOHN HARWOOD: “And I found this fascinating, Maria, that on the issue of taxes, he looked to insulate himself by saying that if, in fact, economic conditions justify the fact that it might harm the economy, he might be willing to hold off some of his tax increases when he takes office in January. Let’s take a listen to Barack Obama.” BARACK OBAMA: “Some of those, you could possibly defer. But I think the basic principle of restoring fairness to our economy and encouraging bottom-up economic growth is important. So here’s what we know: We know that over the last decade or so, that more than half of the economic growth has been captured by the top one percent of U.S. citizens. That means the other 99 percent have seen their effective incomes go down. That is not a recipe for long- term economic growth.” (CNBC, 6/9/08)

· Tax Policy Center: Barack Obama Would Raise Taxes On One Out Of Every Three Senior Households. “Even though Senator Obama’s plan eliminates individual income taxes for seniors with incomes less than $50,000, his plan would raise taxes for almost 10 million senior households, over a third of the total (not shown in table). On average, seniors would face a tax increase of about 2 percent of income.” (Burman et al., “A Preliminary Analysis of the 2008 Presidential Candidates’ Tax Plans,” The Tax Policy Center, 6/11/08)

· Tax Foundation: Seniors “Rely Most On The Stable Flow Of Income That Dividends Provide.” “Most debate over whether to extend the reduced rates on dividends and capital gains has focused on the tax benefits of these cuts to high-income taxpayers. What has been largely ignored is the impact these tax policies have on corporations’ decisions on how best to distribute their income to shareholders–including senior citizens, who rely most on the stable flow of income that dividends provide. A recent Tax Foundation analysis illustrated that a large number of those benefiting from dividends are seniors and those on the verge of retirement (See www.taxfoundation.org). A further analysis of these seniors earning dividends reveals that lower-income seniors who file tax returns depend more heavily on dividend income than high-income seniors.” (Gerald Prante, “The Importance Of Dividend Income For Low-Income Seniors,” Tax Foundation, http://www.taxfoundation.org/news/show/1354.html, 2/8/06)

I checked it on imdb, the quote is there. I know this site well. Biographies on the site are written by the artists themselves and their reps, the site does not contribute to them.

Comment by simanov | 2008-08-08 14:59:28

In addition imdb has records of who submitted the bio and when. They check every submission before it’s approved.

ok, I’m just an immigrant, but doesn’t that disqualify him?

Comment by Xeno | 2008-08-08 14:39:38

Yes. Under the Constitution, people holding dual citizenship are barred from becoming President. If this is true, B-Zero is not qualified to run for the office, or to hold it.

Comment by timepassages | 2008-08-08 14:47:23

I thought you had to denounce your U.S. citizenship if you held two. I thought this because my husband is from Canada. I thought of moving there, but found I had to renounce my U. S. if I wanted to become a citizen. It was the U S laws not Canada. They allow you to have more than one, but the U. S. does not at least not now…

Comment by xax | 2008-08-08 14:53:37

Dual citizenship is allowed, just not endorsed by the US.
It creates a potential conflict of obeying the laws of both countries.

Comment by scott in jupiter | 2008-08-08 15:02:37

Kenya doesn’t allow dual citizenship. So if he became a citizen of Kenya as a boy he would have had to given up his US citizenship.

Comment by timepassages | 2008-08-08 15:05:54

I applied in british Col. CA. ANd was told that the U S goverment does not allow duel. U S immigration told me that 3 years ago! Honestly. The INS said it was the US’s rule not Canada. SO I called Candian INS and sure enough they said the same thing…I am going to go look…

Comment by democracyfirst | 2008-08-08 15:07:58

I was sure the US doesn’t allow dual citizenship. I was a little surprised when some at NQ said it was allowed. I don’t think so.

Comment by timepassages | 2008-08-08 15:15:20

This is the link..

http://www.us-immigration.com/information/dual_citizenship.html

They do allow it, but its not liked. It appears he would have had to been born in Keyna, then became a U S citizen. Otherwise if he were born here, he would have had to renounced his U S citizenship. So in other words there is no way he can be POTUS if this is true.

Comment by Shainzona | 2008-08-08 15:35:27

Is it possible he was born here (US citizen) and his father recorded his birth in Kenya, too…I think they can do that – and that could be the basis of this claim?

Maybe he doesn’t hold legal citizenship status in Kenya, but rather, his BC is recorded there on behalf of his father.

Comment by no waffles aka drkate | 2008-08-08 16:50:12

according to kenyan law, Obama would have at the age of 21 declared his citizenship with Kenya and his intent to meet residency requirements. I don’t know if he did that, but at birth it appeared he had both US and Kenyan citizenship by his parents.

If someone came to the US to become citizen is not eligible either: not ‘natural born citizen’. If he gained an other citizenship after his birth, the renounciation would not apply.

Comment by timepassages | 2008-08-08 15:16:46

That is how it had to be, or he would not be a US citizen. he had to come here, then become a citizen, otherwise when he became a citizen of Keyna, he would have lost his U S Citizenship..

I’m confused…the article seems as if it’s no big deal that he has dual citizenship. Does the writer not realize that it makes him ineligible to be POTUS?

This statement in the article is with out attribution. I have never seen it stated so bluntly. I called Rocky Mountain news and spoke to a person in News Room, who I must say was very pleasant.

i have some names that I got in trying to track down the source of attribution. Silly me, it was at the bottom of the article. The person I spoke with said the 1st and and 3rd where the most likely…I am work and will followup later, unless someone beats me to it, in finding the source…

I spent 25 (successful) years in advertising and McCain has hit upon his “positioning” for BO…the celebrity elitist. It’s very powerful and will sink BO’s ship ’cause it’s true. I hope they keep the formula and begin every ad with the Messiah message.

Comment by jadwiga | 2008-08-08 14:58:27

The stable lead well within the margin of error. Whoa.

Comment by Clinton Fan | 2008-08-08 19:54:13

Yes, it most certainly is. And it looks familiar to me, too. Does it to you as well?

Say, a lot like the “stable lead” that Kerry had? And Gore? And Dukakis, who was up by seventeen points around this time?

And none of those guys had to deal with the Bradley Effect, either. I think Obama is in trouble. The only one who can save him is Clinton, and I hope she doesn’t, frankly.

This troll guy with his “stable lead” is whistling past the graveyard. He’s scared. That’s why he’s here–he believes disruption will dissipate our resolve. He’s wrong.

Notice how they can’t stay away? I have no problem avoiding the Messiah websites. I can’t understand why he feels the need to come here and scratch and peck, if we’re so “insignificant” and “fringe” and “outliers.”

Unless, of course, we aren’t…

Interesting, that.

In this election a democrat should be leading in the polls by 20%. As I head the MSM say early on in the primaries the dems could run a pig and a chicken and beat the republicans this year.

I guess barky isn’t as good as either a pig or chicken.

Comment by Shainzona | 2008-08-08 15:38:44

1% is all the lead Mr. Obama can garner at this time?

Pitiful! Especially when you consider all of the benefits any Dem candidate should have going for him/her in this election year. A rock labeled Dem would be doing this well.

Truly pitiful!

Comment by Lucinda | 2008-08-08 17:19:01

Then why does Obama have a stable lead and McCain can’t break 44-45%?

There’s been nothing stable about Obama’s lead in any of the polls. He’s been up and down like a yo-yo. Last week, he received a miniscule bounce from his European tour then plummeted again.

Comment by fif | 2008-08-08 19:59:37

Stable lead? LOL! After 8 years of Bush, tons of money and the media licking his shoes, he should be 20 points up at this stage. The 527’s are going to bury him.

BO’s “selection” by the DNC reminds me of the show Who Wants To Marry a Millionaire?
Only this show is called Who Wants to be President?

The bar for being POTUS is a ground zero!

Comment by Zeke | 2008-08-08 15:40:26

DB,
You may have figured it out, friend! It IS all about the bar.
When they told the DNC they needed a candidate who could “clear the bar,” they thought it was a game of “Limbo!” and said to themselves, “Who’s the lowest snake in the Senate?”

The Democrats are obviously worried about whether or not Obama can stand up to Republican attacks. I just came across an article where an initiative is underway to threaten and harass GOP donors. Their identities will be exposed, their jobs and families attacked and frivolous lawsuits will be filed to aggravate them.

Pro-Obama Group Threatens Republican Donors

Friday, August 8, 2008 11:08 AM

By: Jim Meyers Article Font Size

A new left-wing organization that wants to help elect Barack Obama president is sending letters to nearly 10,000 major donors who contribute to Republican causes, threatening them with potential legal problems if they finance conservative groups.

The nonprofit organization, Accountable America, is even offering a $100,000 reward for information that leads to the criminal conviction or fines of at least $10,000 for violations of campaign finance laws or other statutes by a conservative group, according to The New York Times.

Accountable America is led by Tom Matzzie, former Washington director of the liberal activist group MoveOn.org, and its research director is Judd Legum, who served that role in Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign.

Matzzie called the organization’s effort “going for the jugular.” He told The Times, “We want to stop the Swift Boating before it gets off the ground.”

The warning letter being sent to potential donors “is intended as a first step, alerting donors who might be considering giving to right-wing groups to a variety of potential dangers, including legal trouble, public exposure and watchdog groups digging through their lives,” The Times reports.

If a conservative group do run ads attacking Obama, Matzzie says his group plans to run ads countering it exposing the donors behind the anti-Obama message.

Matzzie’s group has so far raised only $200,000, but he said he hopes to raise more than $500,000 by next week and $2 million overall.

Republican strategist Chris LaCivita doubts the group will succeed in scaring off donors, saying “they’re not going to be intimidated by some pipsqueak on the kooky left.”

Matzzie previously headed the Campaign to Defend America, which has run ads against Republican presidential candidate John McCain in Ohio and Pennsylvania.

Now if Mr. Matzzie could use his energy towards finding Barack’s real birth certificate…he’d have the appreciation of the entire country.

Good, good! You couldn’t ask for a better campaign to help get the GOP base fired up.

This is PERFECT. They want to take their ‘net thuggery to the real world, and in so doing, they are about to unleash a torrent of backlash.

Love this.

Comment by Dawnelle Leona del Puma | 2008-08-08 16:37:05

Hey Paul,

See I think that is all this video is something for his base. It does NOTHING for me. See 40K is about 20 K more than I get now so I think it’s fine to tax them. As LONG as you repeal the taxes on the UPPER 2 percent first!!!!!

Comment by Dawnelle Leona del Puma | 2008-08-08 16:38:14

I mean repeal bush’s TAX BREAKS

hell tax them for real

we should all pay

and tax those off shore accounts TWICE far as I’m concerned

those people are RIPPING OFF AMERICA

Comment by Andrew | 2008-08-08 18:35:07

The top 1% pays 40% of all the taxes. There should just be a flat tax rate of 30% across the board. Then we wouldn’t have these problems. We needn’t beat up people because they became successful. We need to cut all these social welfare programs that do nothing but balloon the deficit. It isn’t my responsibility to take care of others. It is only my responsibility to take care of myself and my family.

Comment by fif | 2008-08-08 20:07:11

You’re a real warm and fuzzy guy Andrew. Try a little compassion. There are some people that have a difficult time taking care of themselves: mentally disabled, handicapped etc. I worked with abused and neglected children. The first line of this zeroed into exactly the bitterness I was feeling watching Jessica Alba on that “Yes We Can” video. She says “I would like … hmm… a cleaner earth, for the child I’m about to bring into this world.”

“I would like” as if she were perusing a five-star restaurant menu. Some of us NEED healthcare, job stability.

Comment by Darryl | 2008-08-08 15:01:07

If its true, it won’t come out untill right before the election. Its is kind of fitting, because obama did the same sort of thing in his elections in Illinois. He got people off the ballot by disqualifing them legally leaving him unchallenged. Of course, his vp could set up and take over, but by then no one would trust the DNC anymore. The press is building him up and then this issue comes out, it will make him look like an utter fool. there won’t be enough people left to stand by him to even make a difference.

If there were some way to get everyone on the same page it would be great but I fear to even suggest its possibility is to sound like Barry. Instead, I wish that our elected officials would, for just once, admit that they need to quit cheating, lying and stealing in our names and using the tawdry excuse that the other guys would do it if they’d thought of it first.
How about them just doing the job WE sent them to do fairly and honorably.
That would be real f’ing change

Well, it depends on which Republicans you are referring to at the moment. Are conservatives on board with McCain? A lot more than not, but still they aren’t happy with his “moderate” views on certain policies. Then there are the actual moderates of the Republican Party that are relieved to move past the conservative wing of the party.

In sum, both parties are being rocked. One is moving towards the middle with their candidate and the other is moving more towards the left.

I decided a long time ago that no matter what John McCain does–he’s better than Barack. And that’s saying a lot because I’m not a John McCain fan.

Was McCain’s Moses Ad intended to present Obama as the Anti-Christ?

When I first saw this video put out by the McCain camp, I thought it was an attempt to create a viral Moses spoof of Obama’s uplifting oratory skills. I hadn’t thought it might be an effort to tag Obama as a guy “with two horns and a tail” as Time’s Amy Sullivan writes.

But since then, there has been a proliferation of websites on the net pushing Obama as the anti-Christ.

Meanwhile, this one is great:

The Obama campaign has launched a direct attack right at John McCain and his lobbyist connections, blaming those connections for job losses in a new radio ad blitzing the big industrial swing state of Ohio.

“But there’s something John McCain’s not telling you: It was McCain who used his influence in the Senate to help foreign-owned DHL buy a U.S. company and gain control over the jobs that are now on the chopping block in Ohio,” the announcer says.

“And that’s not all: McCain’s campaign manager was the top lobbyist for the DHL deal…helped push it through. His firm was paid $185,000 to lobby McCain and other Senators.”

Watching the commercial, it was pretty clear the Dems were trying to attack McCain for having Rick Davis on his campaign staff. So, I checked out what McCain’s role in this DHL merger was. The AP says:

WILMINGTON, Ohio – Republican John McCain called Thursday for a federal investigation into plans by the DHL shipping company that could cost 10,000 jobs here, as he and his campaign manager took criticism for helping DHL complete a merger in 2003 that led to its current plans.

snip

The Republican presidential candidate called on the Justice Department to begin an antitrust investigation into DHL’s plans to puts its packages aboard the planes of a rival, United Parcel Service, before delivering them in DHL trucks. Because UPS flies out of Louisville, Ky., the plans call for shutting the DHL shipping hub here that uses the Wilmington airport and eliminating up to 10,000 jobs.

snip

n 2003, McCain, as chairman of the Senate Commerce Committee urged then-Senate Appropriations Committee Chairman Ted Stevens to abandon a proposed bill to prohibit foreign-owned carriers from flying U.S. military equipment or troops. Airborne Express said the bill was aimed at torpedoing its merger with DHL, the U.S.-based shipping unit of German postal service Deutsche Post AG.

At the same time, when he was a lobbyist, Davis helped persuade Congress to accept the merger.

Davis took a leave of absence from his lobbying practice to work for McCain. A campaign spokesman said Davis had not worked with DHL since 2005, long before DHL announced plans to move its work out of Wilmington.

His 28% cap gains tax with no exceptions, especially like home sale profits is what is unacceptable to me. Most middle class families have most of their savings in their homes and when they sell it, they can’t even keep the small profits from taxes(currently the exception covers up to $250K per homeowner)? I am a liberal who would otherwise not object to paying taxes but this one is not acceptable to me.

Comment by ming the merciless | 2008-08-08 19:23:42

Do you believe every chain e-mail you get?

Obama’s plan keeps the same exemption for home sales as McCain’s. Most home sales under Obama’s plan would also be taxed at 0 percent, unless profits on the home sale are more than $250,000 for a single person or $500,000 for couples. Absolutely nothing about that changes.

Pro-Obama Group Threatens Republican Donors

John Edwards had an affair – how sad for Obama!

Comment by Firefly | 2008-08-08 15:41:20

So, how does this affect OBAMA?

“Opinion” from an average American: BADLY. It makes me think that maybe Obama doesn’t know how to pick his “friends.” It makes me wonder how much Barack knew about Edwards’ shenanigans – and IF Obama KNEW ABOUT THE AFFAIR, did he blackmail Edwards into endorsing him? Did the Obama campaign tip off the National Enquirer? When might that have been? Taking bets on how many minutes it takes Barry to throw JRE under the bus.

So, MSM – you gonna ask Obama these questions? Didn’t think so – too busy hidin’ behind the rocks on that Hawaiian beach waiting to get that coveted shot of barry wading in his skivvies – giggle – maybe he’ll grab his crotch again for you – ’cause he’s such an upstanding guy – a real leader…

The Democrats always manage to come across as elitists, snobs, windsurfing arugula eaters. I don’t know why they keep repeating this mistake, but it keeps costing them elections. It’s not rocket science to realize that the people want somebody who they believe can relate to them. That’s why Bush went and cleared brush, that’s why he became the guy you’d most want to have a drink with. Bill Clinton understood this dynamic and he won. He knew never to talk down to people, never act like a diva or a rock star.

The Democrats won with Bill Clinton because he was the man from Hope. In other words, he was from smalltown USA and made it to the Ivy League, governor’s mansion, and then to the White House. Americans love the rags to riches stories. The closer you are to relating to the average American…the more likely people will vote for you.

I’m sorry, but I can’t see Obama clearing brush let alone hailing from a place like Hope. It would be so beneath him to acknowledge qualities that might put him in touch with the lesser people in this country aka average voter.

Yet another McCain attack ad that provides a smattering of irrelevant but verifiable facts pretending to support a totally bogus, bullshit conclusion.

The Tax Policy Center, a joint project of the Urban Institute and the Brookings Institution, has done an in-depth analysis and made a side-by-side comparison of the tax plans of both Barack Obama and John McCain. The results are graphically summarized here, courtesy of The Washington Post:

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/story/2008/06/09/ST2008060900950.html

If you care about your money you’ll have a look.

As you can see, what McCain proposes to do–yet again–is give additional whopping big tax cuts to the wealthiest people in America, while giving miniscule tax breaks to the rest. Under John McCain’s plan, people falling into the income range that McCain ad makes so much of would–the $41,500 earners–would get tax cuts of only $319 per year. Maximum.

Obama, on the other hand, would raise taxes only on the high upper end. Those falling into the range mentioned in John McCain’s ad would get additional tax cuts of over $1,000.

In addition, Obama’s plan is more fiscally responsible than McCain’s. Because of the difference on the top end, the average tax cut under Obama’s plan is far lower. This means it doesn’t have so negative an effect on the federal deficit as McCain’s welfare-to-the-wealthy scheme.

What S. Con. Res. 70 actually represented was the first round of attacks on the Bush tax cuts. Obama has stated his opposition to the Bush tax cut scheme all along. They were primarily welfare to the wealthy, and had more than a little to do with the doubling of the national debt during the Bush years. If you doubt their fundamental unfairness, look at the charts and see who benefited.

http://www.ctj.org/html/gwb0602.htm

The new McCain version of them is the same thing all over again.

That was exactly my point, but you’re evidently having difficulty understanding who’s actually robbing you and who’s actually disempowering you.

When you’re trying to figure things out, it helps if you care to begin with.

Comment by Hope Floats | 2008-08-08 16:46:50

They don’t actually plug numbers into it, so it’s completely irrelevant. Obama wants to tax the shit out of everyone and open the treasury to his crook friends just like he’s done throughout his short, unspectacular career.

Comment by ming the merciless | 2008-08-08 17:04:34

Ah, but the Brookings Institution analysis did plug numbers into the proposals. That’s exactly how they came up with the results summarized in the McCain vs. Obama tax policy comparison.

Same with the Bush Tax Cuts distribution chart compiled by Citizens for Tax. They plugged in numbers to come up with the exact figures.

Obama wants to tax the shit out of everyone? That’s not what the actual figures say. The actual figures also say something very clearly about the John McCain plan.

This is the same scam Bush ran on middle-class American taxpayers during two separate campaigns, and put into practice for going-on eight years–with undeniably disasterous fiscal results. McCain is feeding us the same line on the same tax policy. It will have the same fiscal consequences. The middle class will get soaked, the working poor will be disregarded, the rich will pocket a bundle, and the deficit will continue to soar. That’s how it works out when you plug in the numbers.

Comment by ming the merciless | 2008-08-08 17:13:51

Citizens for Tax Justice, I meant to say…

They’re a non-partisan watchdog organization concerned with tax policy equity, if anybody cares.

The same is true of the Brookings Institution. They’re a not-for-profit, non-partisan public policy research organization. They’re in the business of the factual analyis of public policy.

Comment by Firefly | 2008-08-08 16:06:36

Yep – I’m with ya on the whole blackmail thing – bet that’s how he got Edwards’ “endorsement” – and why Elizabeth has been so silent.

Also, scuttlebut has it that barky’s campaign leaked the story to the National Enquirer back before Iowa – just because that’s how they “play.”

Wondering, though, if it sorta got outta hand for Axelrove and friends – I’m thinking maybe they tried to call the Enquirer off after JRE pretended to be a fan of barry’s – but the Enquirer wasn’t having anybody – even “The Messiah” himself – messing with their story. They kept pushing and prodding and digging until they caught him red-handed.

How much do ya love this Friday news dump? BushCo’s got nuthin’ on the “new democrats,” eh? Especially now they’ve got barky safely tucked away (on “vacation” – “unable to respond”) in Honolulu Baby! Nothin’ contrived, though, right?

Feeding frenzy. Who knows, perhaps he was vying for AG under the messiah.
On the other hand, if the media goes after Edwards like this, what will they do when O has to answer the BC question if it ever comes up?

Comment by agent77 | 2008-08-08 16:02:54

When John and Elizabeth Edwards came out last year to announce she has stage 4 cancer, he said his ‘work’ for the American people was too important for him to stop campaigning and care for her.

Now we know what was more important than his wife… his mistress.

This whole incident just makes me madder at Obama and the way all these dirty dogs treat women.

Comment by hattie | 2008-08-08 16:07:47

You do remember John McCain’s first wife, don’t you?

Comment by agent77 | 2008-08-08 16:10:49

and Newts wife too…men suck at being human.

That’s why we need Hillary

Comment by hattie | 2008-08-08 16:23:22

Maybe what sucks is your judgement when it comes to choosing men. The Obamas seem like a model family to me.

All families have issues and problems they are just private.

She wanted the divorce as much as he did. McCain was never a hypocrite about his first marriage. He adopted her children from her first marriage, and he and Carol Shepp remain good friends. She has contributed money to each of his campaigns. Quit acting like you know or care anything about her or her personal life except to the end that you can score cheap shots against an honorable man.

Comment by NO for O | 2008-08-08 16:53:33

You don’t see this happening with women, do you?
If anyone understands this mess, it is HRC. She went through hell.

Comment by Clinton Fan | 2008-08-08 20:25:18

The one who continues to support/donate to her ex-husband’s campaign? That ex-wife?

The one who agreed to a divorce because “John wanted to be twenty five again. I didn’t.”

That wife? Whose pelvis was CRUSHED in a car accident? And who realized what that sort of overwhelming trauma did to any hope for a sex life?

Carol split with him because it would have been sooner or later that they parted, and she knew it. He wasn’t a total bastard, he adopted her children from her first husband (she left her first husband, McCain was her SECOND) , and cared for them (and continues to regard them) as his own. He wasn’t cheap with the settlement, either.

McCain admits he was an shitty husband, and couldn’t “deal.” He continues to apologize for it, too.

But then, he didn’t father any kids out of wedlock; suggesting he was respectful enough not to be sloppy, at any rate.

And John Edwards didn’t spend five and a half years as a POW, either. He went home to a wife every night. A wife who didn’t have a crushed pelvis.

There’s a reason Carol Shepp continues to support her ex-husband. She knows him better than you do, and she knows what was up with that faded, broken marriage. She knows what happened to POW wives–even those who didn’t get in car accidents–after years of absence.

It’s not as cut and dried as you seem to think.

Comment by MEchelle Hates America! | 2008-08-09 14:03:12

They were married for only a year before he left for Viet Nam to serve his country and be tortured for over five years.

He came home and was in no position physically or emotionally to care for a wife he couldn’t even recognize – due to her car accident.

McCain has supported her and the kids ever since and remained married to his second wife for decades.

Oblowme does blow and fools around in limos and Edwards is a jackass.

Comment by John | 2008-08-08 18:32:58

Hey it’s not like anything else important happened today, like a former superpower invading a sovereign nation, or an International sports competition getting underway.

And after all, John Edwards IS the Democratic nominee for President, right?

Comment by Clinton Fan | 2008-08-08 20:09:48

Because he said cheaters are scum, held himself up as “better” and he was a fucking liar.

Also, his poor wife wrote that book, and stuck her foot in it about Hillary, suggesting that if Hillary had been a bit ’sweeter,’ she might not have had a straying husband–that gaffe was likely deliberate, to draw a contrast in the run up to the primaries between her husband and Senator Clinton.

She’s gotta feel like an ass. She’s also gotta be angry as hell that she took all those hormones, that likely ACCELERATED her cancer, to have not one kid (ooops, a GIRL, not good enough, need to replace the dead BOY so the “EDWARDS NAME” will go on) but two, and the second one was that boychild he wanted.

I suppose her consolation is the children.

And as for that birth certificate? There’s no name on it, because Edwards wanted to claim that kid AFTER poor Elizabeth kicked the bucket.

He’s a liar. He’s a jerk. Disgraceful.

And to tell the world that the kid isn’t his, when it likely is, and he knows it, is a helluva note. How will that child feel as she grows up, to know that Papa denied her? Why is it that I believe that if the child was a boy, he would have claimed it?

Why is it not surprising that the words “pro-Obama” and ‘”threatens” are right next to each other. At this point BO can have a zillion ads attacking McCain it won’t matter people are beginning to see that he has taken lying and flip flopping to a new lever and will believe nothing he syays anymore. He’s lost so much credibility and he won’t get it back in fact McCain is turning into “one cool customer” next to the fraud.

Comment by ming the merciless | 2008-08-08 17:20:07

Right. The McCain ads are designed to attempt to destroy Obama’s credibility, because the facts Obama speaks are far more difficult to attack.

When you don’t want people to think about the truth of the message, you try to destroy the credibility of the messenger.

It worked for George W. Bush twice, so the McCain people are going with it a third time.

Comment by Andrew | 2008-08-08 18:46:35

You are so full of shit Ming. Obama is a crazy tax and spender who will dismantle this country with his anti-competitive socialist programs. He is also a liar who uses rhetoric to pull one over on the folks. His ruthlessness is legendary, using race bating to smash other candidates or legal maneuvers to disqualify opponents.

Comment by james | 2008-08-08 19:35:25

Study the side-by-side comparison of McCain and Obama tax polices, compiled by the Brookings Institution by plugging in real numbers. The numbers speak for themselves.

McCain’s plan screws the very $41,500/yr earners his attack ad makes so much of, and greatly increases the already inequitable tax cuts Bush gave to the rich.

Obama’s plan increases tax breaks to $41,500/yr earners. It also cuts back the tax breaks to the wealthy and increases taxes to the wealthiest, resulting in a far more fiscally responsible situation. We do want a balanced budget, don’t we?

The numbers tell the truth of the tale. The ads McCain is running are a part of another republican con job.

Compare for yourself:

Comment by Clinton Fan | 2008-08-08 20:34:07

The first five words of that response apply–Not naive enough to go….

You need that check from Axelrod, eh, and you don’t care that people here look askance at your candidate and your defenses of him?

You can’t be looking to change hearts and minds–that’s not going to happen.

Your only hope is to try to disrupt and demoralize. Don’t worry–Obama’s very presence on the national stage as a “presumptous” nominee is demoralizing enough.

But that won’t cause us to behave stupidly, and vote for the arrogant, inexperienced, prevaricating, doubletalkng, corporate-crook asshole.

So keep posting. When the troll numbers go up, we know the campaign is getting more and more frightened.

And they should.

Comment by james | 2008-08-09 00:25:48

You seem to think the 2008 election is some sort of personality or popularity contest, and that I’m trying to convince you to like Barack Obama. It isn’t, and I’m not.

The 2008 election is a contest between two very different sets of proposals and policies, which will have two very different sets of consequences.
Tax proposals and economic policies are only part of that difference, but they’re an especially good thing to look at because they will affect us directly, and can actually be reduced to dollars for a point-by-point comparison.

If you have no concern for how much money is in your pocket, or whose pocket that money winds up in, I suppose you can safely ignore that suggestion and just believe whatever a 30-second television ad tells you. You can then vote for the guy who endorsed it because you dislike the guy it attacks.

Otherwise, you really should look at the specifics and think about what they mean.

Does that sound like an attempt to disrupt and demoralize? Hey, it’s a purely selfish suggestion. If McCain gets elected, I get poorer. My dollars lose value, and the stuff I need to buy with them costs more. That’s what Bush economic policy did to me–to the tune of a 41% drop in the value of the dollar over a mere 8 years. And McCain promises more of the same, because his policies are the same. I’m sure as hell not part of that wealthy class that will rake in the money under the McCain tax cuts. Are you?

If you are, I really am wasting my time.

Comment by WildChild | 2008-08-08 19:43:33

You can’t really make a side by side comparison James because the policies on BOBO’s side are subject to change without a moments notice.

Comment by james | 2008-08-08 20:00:14

Whereas, you can believe John’s plan is exactly what the figures say it is, right?

Do you like what you’re seeing on that side of the comparison?

The Bush Tax Cuts gave the wealthiest Americans a total of $342,472 in tax breaks over a ten year period.

The revised McCain plan gives the wealthiest Americans tax breaks of $269,364 per year, on an ungoing basis.

How do you like that?

Comment by Ferdberfle | 2008-08-08 20:06:17

You still haven’t answered the challenge, Goob. Oblahblah has yet to speak out of the right side of his face on this. He will and then you’ll probably say something like, “Well he said that all along” or words to that effect. You trolls are *so* predictable.

Obama wanted the attention off of him.I bet Obama set Edwards up-Edwards didn’t do a dent in getting Hillary’s supporters as well as Richardson or anyone else.Obama seams to try everyone out to get Hillary’s supporters.Hey what happend to Obama saying ‘I WILL GET HILLARY’S SUPPORTERS”

Obama is a loser.I know he knew that his plan was in the works cause he said this a week before the last three states.

Well he will not get me!I am a Hillary supporter to give my vote to.but,if the democratic party leaves Hillary out then my vote will be 4 John McCian.I like to know why he left after he was caught in a lie on the Bush -Dick Chengy-Enery Bill.He told people in March on the trail that he was the only candidate that voted no on this bill. And then he went on to say Hillary did not stand up to the oil companies.Well now he attacks John McCain on this bill saying John McCain voted for it.But was busted…In fact it was Hillary and John McCain who voted against this bill.Obama voted more with Bushes policy’s and even said that a while back agao before the race.I guess he forgot the media video was out there.

Obama is Bush-But he keeps saying McCain is.infact McCain voted against Bushes bills more as Hillary did. Each time he opens his mouth Obama says Hillary this Hillary that.and now it’s McCain this and McCain that.I can’t stand Obama. He reminds me of Bush so much but far worst then Bush.I know Obama is out with his connections getting another birth certificate. It does not matter He can’t be trusted.

Obama has plenty of dirty hands out there. We are in deep doo-doo with Obama. He has a agenda for americans and it isn’t good. And it’s not for us.He wants US to become one.and in really that will never happen. But Obama is wanting to take US money and help all other as one. What about the american people?????????Obama with his 1,000 rebate for the american people. He can keep it.I don’t want nothing from that liar puppet dog. That would put US 75 billion more in debt. What anyway to try and buy votes with his hey,1,000 wilkl that do? Oh sure Obama. Now we will end up paying more then that to pay it back in taxes.Obama isn’t giving nothing for free.He wants the votes and then we have to pay it back.,I know he has his plans how to get it back. But his plans do not add up.He is wanting to break our country.

Comment by Tristan | 2008-08-09 06:13:45

McCain’s winning issues is that BHO is too inexperienced and doesn’t understand foreign policy and the economy and would put the US in a worse condition. It’s an excellent strategy because it’s pretty much true – everybody knows you don’t raise taxes in a recession, and everyone knows the surge worked – well, everyone except Obama. And you can use that state of denial to make hi seem out of touch.

By the way Dick Morris writes excellent political analysis – his columns are a must read.

Comment by Lorey | 2008-08-09 12:31:14

CNN is after Edwards and anybody and anyone who isn’t their beloved Nobama. CNN has the worst poltical team on TV. They have all sold out to the great pretender and future destroyer.

Comment by james | 2008-08-11 12:58:21

The media only pointed the spotlight. It was Edward’s own behavior that created something to point it at. John Edward’s political career isn’t over, but he has permanently limited his own possibilities. That’s unfortunate.

It’s not that the media has sold out to anyone in particular. They’ve simply lost interest in higher journalistic standards. They’ll focus on whatever boosts their ratings.

Remember all the mainstream media play Rev. Wright’s sensational soundbytes got? Any credible scandal concerning Obama would instantly become their total center of attention. There would be a media feeding frenzy. They couldn’t help themselves.

This is why most people don’t consider most rumors about Obama believeable. If there was evidence, nothing could keep it out of the spotlight.
