Pumas at the platform meeting

Pumas at the platform meeting

So here we are at the Convention Center in Pittsburgh. I met up with these nice folks. I won’t give out their names, but if you are reading you can identify yourself in the comments if you care to do so.

And how do you like that PUMA in the window? Imagine- the committee members walked by that every time they came out of the hotel to walk over to the conference center.

There was a PUMA protest outside before the meeting and again at the lunch break. I was interviewed by McClatchey News Service reporter and my local paper picked it up over the wires and there was a message waiting for me when I got home. Oh Oh! I spoke to the reporters about the caucus system, how it is unfair to the elderly, the disabled, shift workers, young parents. I gave my opinion that 2000 votes should not have the same weight as 2,000,000.

I can not post all this at once, but wanted to give some basic impressions. I saw Howard Dean and he isn’t looking like he feels too well. He is VERY THIN, something must be wearing him down. He came out of the elevator with no make-up on and the man looks like death warmed over. SKINNY! About 40 pounds lighter than what he looks like on TV. Gosh, he looks worried about something.

Well folks, it’s official – we got screwed on the amendment re the caucuses. Seems they decided there would be no unseemly debates and shows of dis-unity. NO NO NO!!!! the caucuses were deemed to be not in the purview of the Platform Committee and so were ruled “Out of Order.” I do have it on video that the matter is being looked at by the “Roolz” Committee. HAH- that’s going really far now isn’t it???

I am going to get a bite to eat and get my thoughts in order. More later! And maybe some kind soul will tell me how to get the video form my puter to the blog????

“out of order” my ass! i love how that one woman stood up and said that she thought it was sad that they refused to address it based on a technicality. so true!

NEARLY everyone in the Democratic Party seems to think that officially entering Hillary Clinton’s name into a roll-call vote for the presidential nomination at the Democratic National Convention would be a dangerous show of disunity. It’s true that having America watch as some portion of Mrs. Clinton’s 1,640 pledged delegates thumb their noses at Barack Obama would disrupt the party’s vision of a carefully scripted Denver love-in. But finding a constructive way for Mrs. Clinton’s seriously aggrieved loyalists to channel their anger and disappointment could wind up being the path of less destruction for Mr. Obama’s campaign. Plus, it’s the right thing to do.

Comment by Uppity Woman | 2008-08-09 21:07:41

Yeah well this is the first time it’s NOT being done. Fat Teddy had no problem waddling himself into a roll call vote with less than a thousand delegates. I am sick and tired of these old man keeping women down. They can all kiss my ass. They were right about one thing: We need fresh leadership in that party. And it starts with them. Donna Brazile, Howard Dean, Nancy, they are all porky and power has gone to their heads. It’s time to get rid of them and all those “discretionary” superdelegates they picked as well.

Comment by roseeriter | 2008-08-10 07:38:53

How Serendipitous to have that Cougar in the window! May be a sign that PUMA strength and influence is everywhere. Love it!

Great job!

Comment by GrapeApe | 2008-08-10 13:34:26

I want to know why she needs a petition of 300 DELEGATE signatures to get her name in nomination, along with a written request for same.

Previous elections have had many names on the roll call ballot, they got less than 50 votes in most cases, so they didn’t even HAVE 300 delegates to get petition signatures from. What in the world has the DNC become?!

Comment by onmomnaturesside | 2008-08-09 21:30:55

I’ll tell you where this “aggrieved loyalist” will “channel anger and disappointment”, if the Convention becomes a coronation.
Right inside the voting booth in November. I don’t have to do or say anything else. When November comes, I will channel it all right.
Me and all my bitter clinging long time democrats are not channeling to the democratic figurehead.
This is fair or I bail.

Comment by EJ in PA | 2008-08-09 21:36:40

From what I heard and saw today, the DNC is clearly ready to coronate The One. For them, it’s a done deal.

For me, it’s No Deal.

I can only hope that BO self-implodes between now and the convention and we finally get to have HRC as the nominee. If that doesn’t happen, then I hope and pray that McCain doesn’t f*** it up.

Democratic Party –
democracy = disunity

Comment by Seth Warren | 2008-08-09 21:11:19

Now that I’ve had time to consider it, the refusal to even put amendments 93 and 102 to a vote can not even rightfully be connected to any “technicality.” It was well within Robert’s Rules (insofar as I am aware) to pose said amendments and put them to a vote. The challenge to even airing them and the subsequent unilateral acceptance of that challenge, thus preventing a vote, was nothing less than a sad demonstration of how democracy and democratic processes would crumble under an Obama administration. To wit, “we don’t like it, we’re not going to deal with it, it’s someone else’s problem if we acknowledge that it even exists at all.”

I had to leave after that. I’d had enough.

Comment by fif | 2008-08-09 21:42:58

There are no bedrock principles that are to be respected. They are all malleable according to their own interpretation and needs. That is the antithesis of principle. We saw that clearly at the RBC meeting, so it is no surprise that they would continue that behavior. It will be the same at the Convention.

Like I said before, any person who supports a candidate who slaps his wife in the ass on national TV, tells women that his vibrating cell phone isn’t a boner, plays Muthafucka HO rap music and gives the finger on video hasn’t earned the right to discuss what’s CLASSY.

And frankly I find your screen name insulting. But then that’s why you did it, because you are a shining reflection of what Barack OBigHead really is.

And any TRUE professional would no way allow her husband to smack her ass in a working environment let alone in front of the whole world.

BTW a pat on the back is different than A SMACK ON THE ass lady!

Now if you don’t support Hillary, that is your right this is a democracy, but you should be in a rage, that the Democratic party has been hijacked, and the rules and bylaws are being violated. “Please” help the proud Democrats everywhere to hold the Democratic Party held accountable for the injustices that they have inflicted in the nominating process.

I was with Proud Military Mom when Dean walked past us, I said ‘Good morning’ to Deval Patrick and I rode in the elevator with whatshisname Conyers. But for me, the highlight of the day was meeting Proud Military Mom.

Proud Military Mom, you are the best!

I come to No Quarter to lurk, to read, and to try to learn from the rest of you. I was in awe of how knowledgeable and well-versed in all things political that PMM is. She represented us superbly!

PMM, I have never before heard anyone say the Pledge of Allegiance with as much pride and power as you do. The memory of that will stay with me always.

It was really great to meet the other No Quarterites, too. Lucy, I’m glad to have had the chance to continue the discussion on the ride home.

I left the meeting at the lunch break. I was completely offended every time that the committee members referred to Obama as the nominee. The convention to vote for and to choose the nominee isn’t until later this month, therefore, IMO, there should have be no mention or discussion of Obama being the nominee. Or, if they HAD to talk about him, they should have used the term ‘presumptive nominee.’

PUMA.

Big Democratic Union Charged with Corruption

Obama’s ties to the SEIU go back years. Now the local head of the SEIU in California is found to be embroiled in corruption. The union has paid hundreds of thousands of dollars to firms owned by the wife and the mother-in-law of the labor organization’s president. All under the eyes of Andy Stern.

California’s largest union local and a related charity have paid hundreds of thousands of dollars to firms owned by the wife and mother-in-law of the labor organization’s president, documents and interviews show.

Comment by JDW | 2008-08-09 21:14:10

I was involved with the submission of the amendment regarding caucuses. we also submitted language to amend the healthcare plank to make sure there was no question, doubt or vagueness that the Dems will work to cover all Americans, 100%, every single one. That amendment was merged with another wonderful healthcare amendment and we hit a home run for Hillary and her supporters on that key issue.

We knew there would be push-back and the caucus proposal would be unlikely to pass this weekend. We wanted discussion and to start creating some momentum within the larger Democratic family to overhaul primaries.

This is why some of us are urging PUMAs to keep their Democratic voter registration. Hold your place in the party. Don’t automatically endorse Obama. However when you register Republican or publicly declare for McCain, you no longer have a voice in Democratic Party affairs.

I think this will be a tough fight. Many have built their whole careers within the Democratic Party through insider rules that make it easy for those in power to stay in power.

We can win and take control over our party again. Instead of becoming an Independent, run for your state committee. Running for City Hall, State Legislature or Congress is expensive and you really need to be an experienced pro to compete. State Committee Races are cheap, $1000-$5000 for the whole campaign depending on where you live. Also as few people pay attention a smart motivated person can turn out their supporters and easily win. READ THE RULES FOR YOUR STATE DEMOCRATIC PARTY. I stress it because if you know every rule inside and out, you will know how to win.

If we can take over state parties, we take the DNC. primaries change, insiders gaming elections change, sexism will no longer be tolerated.

Comment by Papoose | 2008-08-09 21:39:41

If they had accepted the caucus amendment and did anything with it, that would have been admission of guilt that the process was flawed this time around. They would never agree to that. Caucus vs. primary may also be a state party issue. We all have to work with state party apparatus to change it in our respective states.

I believe the current crew at the DNC go by the old edict: “How do you know you have power unless you abuse it?”
Don’t believe for a minute that they will budge an inch on anything that gives the Clintons or their supporters any real power. They have taken over the party and the only real choice anyone has to get them out is to hand them their heads in a basket. Only a complete rout in this election will force them from their jobs. Soros & Co may still find figureheads to fill in the void left. The puppetmasters have an agenda to fulfill and they won’t go willingly. We have the power to render the “new” Democratic party irrelevant. And I say this with the greatest of sadness as a 4th generation “yellow dog democrat”. Never did I think I’d see this deep corruption take over my party.

So I was just thinking that since her call from Karl Rove from air force one that perhaps the offer was great enough for her to silently play the mole act.
Just wondering who’s side she is really on now that she has such friends in such high places.

I am disappointed and outraged by the actions of the Democratic Party. If Hillary is not nominated at the convention I will vote all straight Republican in Nov. If the super delegates do not have the fortitude to remove the stranglehold the Obama Campaign have over them they will not get my vote. We recently returned from vacation in Monticello and I saw a quote there by Thomas Jefferson “I hold it, that a little rebellion, now and then, is a good thing, and as necessary in the political world as storms in the physical.” – Thomas Jeffeson, letter to James Madison. I’m an outsider but have been closely following your political “quagmire” since early January – and was absolutely astounded that such a selection procedure currently existed in the USA! It was v. obvious to me the BO campaign was playing the caucuses in any way they could – good or bad – to try and demolish your very best candidate ever, Hillary Clinton! Clinton supporters at Democratic meeting fail in bid to end caucus system.

August 10, 2008

“Tensions between Obama and Clinton forces were evident at the Convention Center here, where the meeting took place. Clinton’s supporters sat together in the audience, wearing campaign buttons and T-shirts bearing her name. One person hissed when Obama’s name was mentioned.”

I was honored to hiss, lol and I was not the only one, look I believe in my heart as long as your not standing up throwing bricks, a little hissing does not hurt, yes we are putting our selves out there, and yes we can come off as lose cannons or the crazy, and yes we want to look respectful in the sense we are there with Hillary shirts on and the like, but we have already been labeled as to quote one person “we are not dealing with reality” because we have not fall in line like happy lemmings, I myself am fed up with it all, I have people here who are so mandy pandy and wishy washy, this is whats wrong with are country, people here are afraid of there country or are detached from it all, we got propaganda in the media, and lethargic people who have the attention span of a slugs, unlike other country’s where if they where getting served up the garbage we get here they would have been in the streets, now as for someone I care about, an organizer here who I dearly love and have respect for her, some call her mother duck, I always told her I don’t like being in front of a camera, I don’t mind making a comment in a news paper, camera no way, she went out of her way to try to keep me getting interviewed in the press, also chastised a few others to keep me in line, I was offended for awhile, but over it, and just let it go, there are more important things I need to be doing and I rather put my energies to something more positive, I am a strong women, actually we worked long and hard together, been on the road together, we where planning for some time about Denver, I believe I am on my own there, well not actually we should have a nice little group here going, but it all justifies the means, the DNC knows we are here and not going away, besides what I have seen that the ones with the true grit tends to be the only ones who step up to the plate, and that is the point, if we could get 500 thousand in Denver, I believe they would think allot harder of what they are doing, we only had 2000 in DC, I still have faith, ore work to do, and I serve no more use I believe for the organizer I mention so I probably will not hear from her, no bother more work to do for Hillary and to reform the Democratic Party, as my favorite quote goes no self respecting woman would wish or work for a party that ignores her self…

Oh, and btw, love the Cougar in the foyer – I’ve got an American bourbon whisky belt buckle sitting on the edge of my laptop! It has a Cougar Head embossed on it and makes a great P.U.M.A. symbol – in the absence of being able to do much else from here :) )

Thank You for the great report ProudMilitaryMom and for being there to represent us. I’m proud of everyone that showed up to fight for democracy, fairness, and truth. Looking forward to hearing much more. Last night you asked me to remind you to tell a couple more stories that happened, one funny one in particular about languages. Congrats on your first NQ post.

I’m honored and excited that I will have the pleasure to be traveling to Denver with you. We’re probably going to have to record half of that too as I know it will be quite the interesting and fun filled trip! Here’s my virtual toast to you until we can have a toast together in person: *cheers*

WE ARE 18 MILLION STRONG! THESE PICTURES PROVE HOWARD DEAN’S WORST NIGHTMARE! THERE ARE MILLIONS OF US WHO WILL STORM THE CONVENTION!

I KNOW THESE PICTURES DON’T LOOK LIKE A LOT OF PEOPLE, BUT THIS IS JUST A SMALL WARM UP EVENT! WAIT FOR THE CONVENTION! THERE WILL EASILY BE 2 OR EVEN 3 TIMES AS MANY OF US THERE!

WHEN DEAN AND HIS CRONIES ARE CONFRONTED WITH 20-30 ANGRY FORMER DEMS IN THEIR FACES, THEY WILL CHANGE THEIR MINDS AND GIVE THE NOMINATION BACK TO THE RIGHTFUL WINNER!*

NOBAMA!

You mean Howard Dean looks even WORSE in person?? I didn’t think that was possible.

He’s lost weight, too? I wonder if it has to do with his constant constipation.
