Deval Patrick is speaking now. The meeting is moving along. STAY TUNED FOR OUR AMENDMENTS TO BE INTRODUCED. (Not all were subitted by 5 p.m. Friday, as required, but many of the most important did. But I can’t say too much at the moment. Watch for more news on the amendments that YOU voted on.)
WATCH FOR THIS, I am told: Howard Dean apparently wants this to be a mere “show,” but we want to make sure that every amendment gets its opportunity. (This is no longer a worry, I am further told.)
UPDATES: Proud Military Mom tells me that when Howard Dean spoke, he received no applause EXCEPT when he mentioned 1) women’s rights and fairness, and 2) Hillary Clinton.
Proud Military Mom (hereafter PMM) just called me. She reports that the appause seems overwhelmingly pro-Hillary, even among the members of the Platform Committee. She is with a great contingent, and another Hillary group held a rally outside and is sending me photos ASAP. STAY TUNED for more reports.
PMM also told me that OUR amendments will get a fair hearing. That was made clear at the top of the meeting, which is ongoing live on C-Span1. One more story I’ll add in a minute from PMM …
PMM also told me that when New Mexico attorney general Patricia Madrid mentioned that in New Mexico, most residents are able to speak TWO languages, the entire place erupted in laughter and applause. PMM interpreted it as a slight dig at Obama’s remarks recently about Americans not being to speak other languages.

They were discussing Obama and when Sliwa had a chance to speak he got all animated said that there is one faction nobody is considering and that it is going to make a major difference — And that’s Puma, P-U-M-A — Party Unity My Ass!!!! and then went off like you would not believe, about us. I was screaming! Looking at him in his beret! He was wild.

Sliwa is a conservative Republican who guest hosts for Sean Hannity. Thus it’s hardly a surprise that he would praise a group that helps the Republican party.

Yes Uppity that was the story. He claimed his inlaws house (retirement community) as his primary residence so he could pay FL taxes instead of MD taxes.

I developed pneumonia right after my double hip replacement, and the doctors and nurses were constantly monitoring me. (What I really think was also going on is that my appendix had also burst by then, but sice I’m one of those people with a very high pain tolerance, I didn’t feel the appropriate symptoms.)
ANYWAY – WATCH FOR AMENDMENT #93.
I don’t know the # for the UNIVERSAL HEALTH CARE AMENDMENT, but it’s on the docket.
I had pneumonia upon returning for an overseas trip.It was very painful and really horrible…
broke a two ribs from the coughing…

He apparently had a serious lung condition that was in remission. It’s likely that any sort of lung infection, particularly pneumonia would be especially dangerous for him.
Also note that “pneumonia” is not a well defined condition. Essentially that is the name that the doctors use when there is a lung infection that they don’t really know what it is.
Susan, you didn’t have to tell us you have a high tolerance for pain! It’s obvious from the work you do here.

On another subject, Bernie Mac was on of my favorite comediand, his recent comments excepted. It’s sad for anyone to die so young.
There’s some Scottish blood in me. Mostly Swiss German though. (But thank god I didn’t inherit the Swiss family’s obsessive-compulsive cleaning disorder. A quick glance around my place confirms that. It is GOOD to be clean, and i much prefer it, but it also eats up an inordinate amount of time.)
Bernie’s death IS sad, especially for such a young man. He must have had a viral form of pneumonia. I hope he had the very best medical care. AND that he got to the hospital in time. Too many people with pneumonia don’t go to the hospital when they should.
I am Swiss German and I have a mess disorder! haha
Reggie White, former Phila Eagle and GB Packer died as a result of the same disease Bernie Mac had, something about enlarged organs that I think was the route cause of both their deaths. Very tragic and both lost too soon.
Before the days of hip replacement surgery, a broken hip in the elderly was practically a death sentence because they would become immobile, which would lead to pneumonia and death from it.
I will always admire your sheer guts and view your perservence as a fine example of humanity.

During that time, I am reminded of all the stories of people sharing their experiences of “health care” in this country, and in others countries as well.
It seems like yesterday that Dr Carol posted those two articals of her experience at NYC Ground Zero on 9/12 and (as I recall she described it) “bumping into” Senator Clinton.
As the Senator made every effort on the Canadian team’s behalf and other ECU’s.
Dr. Carol’s story about an American injured in Canada as she described the patient in tears for fear of the cost.
I so which I could replace the good doctors despair on that night as she treated the broken arm, being reminded once again how lacking the United State’s view of care for profit.

It does sicken me to hear Dean speak of Obama as “our nominee” and use patronizing words when describing Hillary Clinton and her supporters.
Especially galling when he’s threatening her with severe political consequences if she has the audacity to allow her name to be placed into nomination at the convention.

He appears to have lost at least 40 lbs., she said. She also said he looks gaunt, and his face is very drawn.
I wonder if he is ill? I hope not. But it could be the stress. I believe he has a conscience. I believe that, in his hearts of hearts, he has grave reservations about what he is doing. I wish he would have the courage to realize that, and state so publicly. But he won’t.
If anyone follows astrology - Dean is experiencing what is known as his Saturn return. Every 28-29 years the planet of Karma returns to the position it held at birth. Saturn is often called the grim reaper, but basically, it tests you on what you’ve learned and forces you to grow up (when you are 28-30) and to grow up again at 57-59. In any event it’s a difficult period and Dean is definitely reaping what he has sown. I knew someone who arranged a “rally” for him and there were special “red” tickets handed out to fill in for the amount of regular tickets they could not sell. Barack Obama is not legally a US natural-born citizen according to the law on the books at the time of his birth; a law that was in effect between December 24, 1952 and November 13, 1986, when the law was changed.
However, the new law did not preempt the former law in the cases of those born between the above listed dates when the old law was in effect.
Therefore, Senator Obama may very well be disqualified as the Democratic candidate in the upcoming Presidential campaign.

To get the state of Illinois to look into BO’s status as a lawyer, you do not contact the ISBA — you need to contact the head office of the Illinois Attorney Registration and Discipline Committee/Commission, which I believe is in Chicago — that is the official state office that collects applications for admission to the bar, obtains annual updates on everything pertaining to lawyer functioning, gets all the data on file resworn every year, and handles complaints made by the public — including queries about whether lawyers lied on their applications about anything to begin with, and formal complaints about behavior that has the public appearance of conflicting with what is known about the rules re lawyer certification and conduct.
You can easily find the contact info for this office by googling Illinois ARDC, and ask to talk to an officer — but do not start with the person at the very top, who would likely be a political appointee.

The problem, however, is that all the Departments that have a role to play in eliminating/addressing poverty still stand as stovepipes in the grand bureaucracy. A poverty czar could be a significant force in getting programs that deal with poverty to be aligned and mutually effective: Housing, Labor, Commerce, Health, Education would be the most significant Departments to coordinate in a genuine anti-poverty drive. Also add to that the offices of the Attorney General. Unfortunately, “czars” seldom work out as answers and instead become more questions and problems.

I can’t wait to see C-Span! I’m encouraged by the comments of how the Platform Committee Meeting is going. Thinking back to the infamous “Rules Committee” at the end of May, the composition of that group, thanks to Howard Dean, was basically white men and A-A women loyal to Dean. With only a few exceptions, these two groups were tepidly supporting Hillary by then and the reason they were lecturing Hillary protesters that they should be “happy with the vote, because it could have been a lot worse.” This is definitely the backlash we needed today if it continues. Unless the voting delegates/super delegates inside the doors of the Convention speak up for Hillary and us, it won’t matter who we have outside holding protest signs/marching/or people ready to blow the place up even.

Bernie Mac was a family man. Married to the same
woman for many years. He was also a father. I think
that we can extend condolences to them at this
difficult time in their lives. I know that I do.
Despite being extremely disappointed at his recent
sexist remarks, at other times he has been known
to be generous with his time and money to help others. I enjoyed his performance in “Guess Who”.
I hope that those here, would have enough humanity
to not allow this site to be used in such a manner as the D. KOS, to “trash that person” upon their
death. He’s was not a politician. He made people
laugh, think and sometimes he crossed the line.

One of the most amusing and perturbing things about the bots who post here, as opposed to the Obama supporters, is their inflated sense of their intellectual abilities and their unjustified sense of moral superiority.
For example, consider “grow up’s” statement “only No Quarter would link someone’s death to their political candidate.” Did No Quarter post a blog that did this? No. Did some people who post in NQ’s wild west of free speech do so? Yes. “grow up” wants to paint NQ in a bad light so “grow up” misrepresents the circumstances in which the “questionable” act occurred.
“grow up” commits the elementary logic fallacy of generalizing from the particular. Embarrassingly for “grow up”, people who comment at NQ are conflated to be NQ itself, which involves the laughable circumstance in which “grow up’s comments are also the thoughts that NQ represents. Clearly, “grow up is comfortable with convicting the many for the actions of the few.
Further, it is highly unlikely that “grow up would claim that we are right to associate every comment that is posted at Obama’s site as being his campaign’s position on a subject. Notwithstanding, there are no shortage of hypocrites who believe that they should be held to different standards than others.
Given that only some NQ commenters were involved with the “questionable comments”, it is strange that the morally superior “grow up” would feel justified in committing the very same “only bad people do this” act. Accordingly, “grow up” is ready to do what “grow up” thinks is morally reprehensible, if “grow up” sees the act done by one or a few people of the oppositiont.
In conclusion, “grow up” is obviously not intellectually or morally superior to the people that did the linking of the death, because “grow up” does the same thing, even when “grow up” says it is wrong. “grow up’s” failure to avoid committing a most basic logical fallacy is a testament to “grow up’s” lack of intellectual authority.

I am quite surprised at the ease with which Republicans picked their nominee and the process being straight forward and fair to the people who voted and the base even got a nominee they didn’t like. Here we are on the Dem side with undemocratic processes like caucuses and proportional delegates and on top of it, party elite and one of the candidates gaming the system in the worst possible way and now they wonder why people don’t fall behind the cheater. Now we know why Republicans win and Dems deserve to lose. Lose they will in November. I became an unaffiliated on May 31 after watching the Dem stupidity at the RBC meeting. I will be voting for whoever I please which may even be McCain but it won’t be Obama.
Oh, BTW McCain voted against Bush-Cheney Energy bill and Obama voted FOR it (he is your oil company guy, ethanol subsidy guy, nuclear industry guy and so on and so on). Remember that.
How is winner take all more democratic? The vast majority of democracies in the world use proportional representation because it more closely tracks underlying voter preferences.

It allowed minority and lesser known canidates to have their platforms heard. It allowed the states to have different voter preferences between urban and rural recognized. However, like everything the Dem powerbrokers touch, they made a mockery of it by gerrymandering and rigging the weight of those proportional votes. Your shitty canidate raised it to a new art form, scamming the system to the hilt, taking advantage of every “equal opportunity” loop hole in the book.

This is on purpose I believe from hillary herself. She doesn’t want to be his VP. So she had her campaign release the memos to make sure that they would have an excuse not to pick and loose the national election. This is a good thing so she can run in 2012.
The caucus system has to be abolished. IMHO, this should be the first and foremost goal of those who believe in democracy.
The democratic party nomination system is a total fraud and I will not participate in it nor support any of their candidates in any way until it is fixed.
