How Obama Treats Labor [Monday Update]

This is from “LaborPains.org.” Mon AM Update: I am told by a reliable source that the AFL-CIO fully expected Obama to appear in person. The AFL-CIO has never been treated this way, ever, by a presidential candidate. Now back to the original blog post:

The title tells the story:

Stood Up and Hung Up

Then blogger J. Justin Wilson reveals the depressing details:

I just got off the AFL-CIO’s kick-off conference call with Obama. What a tragedy of errors.

First of all, Sen. Obama was about 40 minutes late to the show. You can image how fantastic 40 minutes of Muzak went over. Finally, John Sweeney introduced Obama.

Next …

After rattling off nearly the exact same speech he delivered a few months ago to the AFL-CIO (see above [video]), Obama proceeded to hang up. Click. Just like that.

Someone at the AFL-CIO muttered something like “is that it?” and then we went back to hold music.

A lady came back on and made an excuse, saying Obama’s line was cut off and that he would come back on the call. Minutes pass, and then she came back on and said that Obama had left the building. …

Go to “Stood Up and Hung Up” to view a video and to listen to the actual phone call.

Oh well. I completely understand.

It is such an annoyance to have to talk to those “typical” little people.

:::::

P.S. Originally I described the blog as “pro-labor.” That is not entirely true. However, the facts of the event — backed up with an AUDIO — remain true.

Now you know. It’s you. You’re a whiner and you’re to blame. The disease in the economy is not in your wallet, your pension, your job, your mortgage — it’s in your head. Phil Gramm says so and he should know.

He’s tried to help you with the free market and in these boom times you give him skepticism. Gramm is the economic wizard to the self-professed economically-challenged Republican candidate. Gramm was the most instrumental senator in the Republican de-regulation spasm under Reagan and Bush. That gave us a financial sector free of almost any restraint — followed by frauds, bank failures and bailouts (and you whine at having to pay billions when the wheels fall off the free market). This gave us a deregulated energy sector leading directly to the Enron crimes, speculative excesses, and the ruination of countless thousands of Americans now suffering in their heads — and at the pump.

Yes, Gramm tried to help you, turning loose the economic barracuda to save us with the free market. And here we are free at last — free of jobs (they wave any flag guaranteeing near slave labor), free of gas (stagnant wages won’t pay for it), free of a sound currency, free of principled conduct in finance and government, free of almost everything except foreclosure, war, debt and inflation. So it’s good to know it’s just in our heads.

Republicans should have been too ashamed to even run a candidate this year, but they have and it’s economic illiterate John McCain, advised by economic vandal Phil Gramm. If your head clears, vote against them because if they stand for capitalism it’s time to find something — anything — else.

Barry only cares about Barry, not petty labor organizations.

This is off-topic, but I know people will get a kick out of it.

Larry Johnson’s piece from last night has them atwitter over at Daily Kook, AKA The Site That Will Kick You Off If You Make A Truthful Diary About John Edwards:

http://www.dailykos.com/story/2008/8/10/212240/798

One of the people there, a front-pager by the name of Meteor Blades, is creating all kinds of scenarios with Larry that involve intrigue and espionage. Here’s a choice quote. The “He” in question is Larry Johnson:

“How do you know he’s crazy. How do you ……know his agenda doesn’t require him to appear crazy? It’s a house of mirrors.”

If you want some good laughs and to see Bots in Panic, check it out. I’m only about a third of the way through the comments but wanted to give others the chance to laugh with me.

Ha ha ha.

Nice work on the Batchelor show, Larry. And Susan, you were right — John Batchelor is excellent. I will be looking for that show more often in the future after listening to LJ’s segment and the one after his.

Comment by Clinton Fan | 2008-08-11 06:01:00

Wow, what a bunch of angry and flailing jerks. All they can do is hurl insults and snark. They repeatedly indicate that they have disdain for Larry, they toss personal insults at him, but they never back up their arguments against his assertions with any of those pesky facts.

“You’re an ugly asshole, so there!” is not a rebuttal. At least not in the adult world…

Comment by C.S. | 2008-08-11 06:35:44

Can’t expect adult behavior from playground bullies. Obama’s disciples and most of our elected officials all need detention or at least a long Time Out. January 21, 2009 sounds about right.

He thinks that he will win because the alternative is voting for McCain, and nobody would do that. He is in for a rather rude surprise inNovember (if he lasts that long).

Comment by Ani | 2008-08-10 23:02:56

Exactly so. His arrogance is beyond the pale.

This is exactly the same attitude that Phil Griffin, Pres. of MSNBC had when we were complaining about the disgusting migogyny of Keith Olbermann — he said in so many words:

‘yeah we know he’s a jerk, but where else are you gonna go?

Judging by MSNBC’srappy ratings, they must be getting a good answer to that question.

I think Obama will receive a similar answer in November.

Comment by Obama is a bum | 2008-08-11 00:47:05

Obama already won the gold medal for arrogance, all others vie for a silver.

Obama and Olbermann are two big zeros.

Comment by C.S. | 2008-08-11 06:56:25

He thinks he can win, like Bush thought he could win; because he’s being told he has won.

An arrogant Bush was so thoroughly annoyed that he didn’t win that he and his group took it all the way to the Supreme Court to prevent a Florida recount.

IF Obama doesn’t win, see how fast the cry of discrimination fills the air and watch those torts (probably citing the 1965 Civil Rights Act) sail to the Supreme Court once again.

And don’t forget that old blackmail threat of violence if he doesn’t “win”. So many of our politicians are so afraid of rioting by the Obama loyal that they “fear our freedoms” more than losing our freedom.

Comment by Ferdberfle | 2008-08-11 07:01:47

Let them riot. If this is how they think they can win friends and influence people, let them have at it.

Comment by roseeriter | 2008-08-11 07:04:34

This whole primary has been a riot in one way or another. Let them ‘crash the gates’ and see how far they’ll get. Sometimes it takes a riot of some kind to wake people up no matter what the riot is for.

Comment by Ferdberfle | 2008-08-11 07:12:45

Agreed. The art of persuasion does not include threats of violence. The sooner they learn that, the better.

Comment by Pam | 2008-08-11 07:38:25

Yeah. Let them riot. It won’t last long. Maybe a week or so. I won’t buckle for a threat of a riot when my country is at stake. I’m fighting for my freedom & my most fundamental right of all, my own vote, right here at home!!

ARE YOU READY TO RUMBLE!!!!

YEA!!!

Comment by Ferdberfle | 2008-08-11 07:48:45

And a fitting punishment for the instigators would be to clean up the mess as part of a chain gang. And as an added bonus, the taxpayers could provide them pink uniforms that they could keep once they finished the job.

Comment by Chiten | 2008-08-11 13:14:54

The only people left in “Obama’s base” are gangster rappers, black prison inmates and black liberation theologists who like to riot and loot. The people in society most likely to cause violence and harm to others are his base, that’s why people are afraid, as well they should be.
The actual number is very small, the probablility of damage, injury and even death is very high. We’re going to need the National Guard called out in major cities in case the Obama numbers upset his “base”.

Any self-respecting black or white person is firmly against Obama. The only ones still supporting him are those listed above along with the very young and very foolish. He has zero chance of winning in the general election. His handlers know this, and they’re looking for an exit strategy.
Mark my words, Grandma is going to play a large part in the exit strategy (or whoever plays grandma on TV). I’m seriously hoping he wouldn’t sacrifice the life of his own grandmother, but there is no doubt in my mind that he would have the “death” faked as a reason to withdraw from the race.
Watch the media closely, they’re about to pull a fast one on us again.

Comment by Cathy6224 | 2008-08-11 08:46:19

Comment by Joseyj | 2008-08-11 08:54:18

McCain made a boo-boo by airing an Olympic ad that bashed Obama – rather than an ad promoting McCain.
Sometimes I think the Repubs WANT Obama to win….it would certainly do wonders for the Repub Party damaged by Bush.

Fox news had a clip of him ordering “a stack of pancakes to go” and speculated he wouldn’t eat them and they would end up in the trash on his bus… or maybe under his bus. They are already FLAT, there’s room under the bus for pancakes.

but seriously, as for unions, Houston we have a problem.

I am an AFSCME member, and our jaws are still open in shock over the way he treated our candidate, Hillary.
Getting behind him is something the bosses urge, but the rank and file aren’t buying it. We saw him in action all across the country and we’re not pleased. Our union is spending pac money on him through Moveon, and it is advertised as such, but he pretends he isn’t tainted with our pac money. If there was a way to stop them from taking my pac donations from my paychecks I would do it. Part of my paycheck goes to his advertising, and then he denies it. Sickening.

The teamster bosses cut a deal with him to stop oversight, which infuriated the rank and file since that opens the door to them being screwed.

SEIU had problems with their members even before they endorsed him. Since then their union bosses have shown themselves to be aligned with ob. Thugs are supporting the presumed thug in cheif. The rank and file are well aware of their bosses and there have been top news stories of corruption at the top.

Ob is NOT pro-rank and file, although he is all for the cash and power a union endorsement brings.

Let the union workers eat pancakes, skinny ol ob says.

Comment by matilda | 2008-08-11 12:48:36

To stop having money deducted from your paycheck to fund non administrative activities by the Union (i.e. PACs or other political programs) you may request becoming a “core” member of the Union. Under that category, you would only have to pay that portion of your dues that supports the Union’s administration costs. Speak with your union about how to go about becoming a “core” member or call your local NLRB (National Labor Relations Board) office for further information on your rights.

You do realize that the heavier the package you send, the more they pay in postage? Some ideas include bricks, lead washers in the envelope, junk appliances, anything that weighs a lot and has little or no value is ideal for the job.
You end up costing them money instead of providing them with money because they pay the postage.
Next letter you get, pick up whatever you want that weighs as much as possible, tape the postage paid envelope to it and drop it at the post office. I’m sure BO will appreciate your contribution and they’ll cut you off the mailing list asap! (then you go to the site and sign back up LMAO).
If enough of us do this, it should bail out the United States Postal Service to the point they won’t have to raise the price of stamps again for another year.
This concept is FULL of advantages!

Comment by stateofdisbelief | 2008-08-11 20:24:06

94% of AA are voting as a block for BHO..it is unfortunate the vote is color based and not based on the issues that actually affect all of us. I am tired of the focus of our funds in healthcare going to emergency rooms paying for people who shoot or stab themselves in gang violence. I am tired of paying for young women to have more and more illegitimate babies for a larger stipend from welfare so they can continue to buy drugs. I am tired of paying for education issues caused because our classrooms are overcrowded with hundreds and hundreds of children with no fathers. How do they eat? We pay for their education and their meals. Why?..ask Barak Obama. He refused to help the Jenna 6. He’ll tell you-he abandoned all those AA’s the minute he could and they very stupidly follow him like he actually cares…sad.

I got on the other day. Wrote my own response to all the points the letter was trying to make. Tore the donation card up and put the pieces with the letter back into the postage paid envelope. Makes me feel so good.

Also, got a fundraising call from the DLCC today. When I told them I was now an Independent and had made the change back when the DNC made a debacle of the FL and MI situation…the gal said, “Well, that wasn’t our fault…you know that don’t you?” I tried to say something, but she said, “They broke the rules…”

Talk about P.O.’d My blood pressure shot out the roof and I told her, “Well, you just pissed me off worse. Good bye!”

Sounded to me as though this wasn’t the first time she’d heard this response.

I deal with all political parties in my profession. The rudest comments are now coming from those associated with (and working for) the Democratic Party. As a lifelong Democratic, I've noticed over the years an increased disregard by the Democratic Party workers and leadership of its constituents.

The Democratic Party has forgotten that there is still competition in this country, even for political parties.

I am happy to do my part to annoy Obama supporters, and I always feel happier afterwards – you know, if you’re “feeling a little down” or something, it’s a great, no cost (except to Obama) cure.

Be sure to send the reply envelope back WITHOUT POSTAGE and with your thoughts enclosed. I wish I had some Monopoly money to send, that is funny. That way the DEMS have a better idea of what REAL DEMS are thinking.

Comment by Chiten | 2008-08-11 13:41:40

remember, the maximum donation from an individual is $2300, so you’ll need to send 4 $500s and 3 $100s of the monopoly money.
Of course, if you want it to weigh more, send as many small denominations as possible!!
I like the miniature money you get at wal-mart or the dollar store too. It looks like actual money but much smaller (or larger) and with markings to ensure that it’s “play money”. But you could probably fool of few of them….
If you have a color printer, print out a bunch of the $3 obamabills in green and send those.
Don’t use xerox images of actual money, it could be considered counterfitting and get you in trouble if you have a return address on the envelope. (was my idea, but my very intelligent wife stopped me with the realization…what would I do without that woman? …oh yeah, I’d marry Uppity!!! LOL)

Comment by Chiten | 2008-08-11 13:42:45

Sadly you are probably right. Everyone keeps saying they can’t believe so many support oloser and they can’t believe the poles. Well I really do not believe the American people will vote this guy into office. If he wins I think it is a total FIX. There is no way. This country just isn’t there. Not yet! And not for some time still. Way to much stuff on him. And even though our lovely media refuses to report fair and unbiased news people are getting the messages about who this character really is.

That’s about how I’d treat them, but they aren’t exactly on the same side of the aisle with me. For Obama that’s just dumb. Still, I get a little bit of satisfaction from it.

Imagine if presidential elections were voted the way the union wants to vote on organization. Isn’t that the exact issue with the ridiculous caucuses this year? Intimidation, groupthink, and no privacy– thanks unions!

Comment by jangles | 2008-08-10 22:34:38

That is the organizational law unions have to deal with at this time—brought to them by the Republican giant union buster, Reagan. Unions want that organizational law changed—Hillary is a big supporter of that change—to a secret ballot.

Comment by Andy Lewis | 2008-08-11 00:03:54

Kiss off, RNC scab.

Comment by JozefAL | 2008-08-11 00:24:51

You arrogant jerk. The reason that the anti-union companies want a “secret ballot” is so they can fucking STUFF the ballot boxes. When the counts come in showing MORE votes than eligible employees, there’s no way to prove any fraud. (Fraud can only be implied or suggested, but not proved in a “secret ballot”.)
By requiring workers to make a visible stand, the union can actually lessen incidents of fraud. The other problem that companies face is that when a worker shows that he’s willing to take a PUBLIC stand, the company cannot fire him if the unionization fails.
Anyone who honestly believes that management is somehow looking out for the workers’ best interests in demanding a “secret ballot” needs to get in touch with me. I’ll have some unpleasant news for them about the tooth fairy, the Easter Bunny, and Santa Claus.

Comment by Linda K | 2008-08-11 02:13:11

Hey Joze, I’ve been a union member for most of my adult life and worked for the union. It may not be legal to fire people for organizing a union, but I have seen it happen time and time again, and taking months and months to correct the injustice, if it is ever corrected. Reagan was the biggest union buster and labor and people who deserve to earn a living wage, are the worst for his actions. Reagan started the ball rolling with deregulation and exporting jobs, and it’s continuing. We need Hillary.

Comment by karen for Clinton | 2008-08-11 06:03:16

Amen, we NEED Hillary.

The unions supporting obama might have happy bosses with their pay offs and back room deals but the rank and file of many unions are worried stiff.

No wonder ob praised old Ronnie. He will break us.

When he screws up UHC our medical plan costs will continue to increase to the point it won’t pay to pay our dues and we will have no choice but to “opt out” of union affiliation. He is no friend of us little old lunch bucket dems who fight for benefits.

Comment by Chiten | 2008-08-11 13:48:19

I have made it a point to be low enough in my union to not be in the corruption, yet high enough in the union to be included in vote counting. That is the only way I am comfortable with secret ballots. I can ensure that nobody stuffed the box and I trust myself whereas I don’t trust many others….but then, there are probably some that wouldn’t trust me (because they don’t know me or whatever). At least I know that the vote is on the up and up and I (if nobody else) knows that I would not allow cheating on my side or the other.

Comment by Clinton Fan | 2008-08-11 06:05:38

I know this has been posted before, but it bears remembering that way back in February there were warnings form some in labor: http://www.tradingmarkets.com/.site/news/Stock%20News/1057928/

GALESBURG, Ill., Feb 01, 2008 (Chicago Tribune – McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) — Maytag workers whose jobs were shipped to Mexico serve as consistent characters in Barack Obama’s stump speech. He employs their stories in railing against corporations that use trade pacts to replace well-paid union workers with low-cost foreign ones.

It is a ready applause line for the Illinois presidential hopeful, one that he has been reciting almost verbatim since he was a candidate for U.S. Senate in 2004, when appliance giant Maytag was in the process of shutting a refrigerator plant here, putting 1,600 people out of work.

But the union that represented most of those Galesburg workers isn’t impressed with Obama’s advocacy and has endorsed his Democratic rival, Hillary Clinton. Its leaders say they wish he had done more about their members’ plight.

What rankles some is what Obama did not do even as he expressed solidarity four years ago with workers mounting a desperate fight to save their jobs.

Obama had a special connection to Maytag: Lester Crown, one of the company’s directors and biggest investors whose family, records show, has raised tens of thousands of dollars for Obama’s campaigns since 2003. But Crown says Obama never raised the fate of the Galesburg plant with him, and the billionaire industrialist insists any jawboning would have been futile.

andy — we are supposed to believe that it was Hillary’s mistakes that cost her the nomination and not that the DNC forced Hillary out. It won’t work because we all saw what happened in real time.

Comment by C.S. | 2008-08-11 08:15:44

The common belief that history is written by the winners does not always work when you have eye witnesses to that history that tell a different story. No matter what event you look at, from the true story of Lincoln’s assassination to the real story of Nazi death camps, it will come out.

You can see in the “official” version of the Bush administration versus the truth we all lived through that the “cover up” didn’t work. It’s a rare person that denies the 2000 election wasn’t fraudulent and it’s a rare person today that actually believes that Obama won those caucuses no matter what the media is saying. And the premature declaration that Obama won when delegates were taken from other candidates to close a gap between the popular primary winner and Obama is now a part of our history that no declaration at the Denver convention will obliterate.

If you have a grandparent or a parent that lived through the Great Depression, World War II, you have a window on history that doesn’t appear in the history books. Mention Hoover if you don’t believe it. Like the JFK assassination, there’s the “official” version and the version everyone believes and that second version is what future historians research. Obama can run from the truth but he won’t be able to hide from the truth because historical researchers will record every dirty trick.

Comment by jangles | 2008-08-10 22:44:57

Read the article but the article makes it sound like this is good news for Obama because front runners become targets so it’s good that he is in a tight race. Also says that the national numbers mean nothing that it’s the state by state electoral votes that matter and there he is way ahead. I think that is rampant wishful thinking from the Obama camp but I’m sure right now they have to be giving delegates reassurance and hope. He makes me so sick.

Comment by C.S. | 2008-08-11 08:33:00

It’s psychological spin. If it was reversed, that would be a “good thing”, too. “Reality is my perception of reality”. In the case of this political election, it’s Obama’s reality force fed to the masses.

Let’s talk about unions. The union here where I live has been so ineffective that they have been unable to stop erosion of benefits at aircraft plants. And they strike again just this week. Another company I know well struck too and it did little or nothing, benefits still eroded. Recently we had a friend who died….not a union member but fell under union rule because of his paycode….when he died his life insurance for his 8 year old daughter totaled $40,000. My hubby who works for the same company who is not affiliated at all with the union, if he dies I get $325,000….tell and show me where the union helped him.

I can cite one time in recent years the union helped someone I hold dear, my aunt. She doesn’t get health insurance through her employer. My uncle was a teamster in good standing when he died….the teamsters are covering her under their insurance plan.

No one else I know has been helped by a union even our friend who worked for the railroad. Am I anti-union. You bet I am…..

Comment by ritamary | 2008-08-11 00:29:53

I did clerical work at a California community college in various jobs for 10 years. The last job I had for four years. I was still considered part-time temporary even though I was doing the exact same work as the clerical workers who were in the union. I was not allowed to be in the union because I was not supposed to work more than 19.5 hours a week. However, many weeks I did work much more than that. The SEIU was the union by the way. This job had no benefits and did not pay into Social Security or Unemployment Compensation. Guess how I feel about unions.

I’m sorry you’re anti union. For every anti union story I would wager there are pro labor stories. I, myself, have seen the union save hundreds of jobs, negotiate decent pay and benefits, and language and protection. Perhaps if you could read the history of labor and see what life was like before unions, it would cause you to reflect. Of course, there are ineffective locals and the erosion of labor has been going on thanks to Ron. I feel sad when I read posts like yours. I’m even sadder that the DNC is taking our best hope for a better economy and trying to shove an inexperience egomaniac down our throats.

Hey, Navyvet, AFvet here. We’re teamsters in the Airline industry. We’ve got very good union benefits. We’re happy to be UNION. The airlines industry is taking a hit all over; that’s not labor’s fault. Lying politicians feeding at the trough of corporate lobbyists are the real problem.

I belong to the Washington State Nurses Association and they are a total, 100% joke as far as protecting their employees.

Because of the WSNA I am totally against unions but I can not opt out. I have no choice but to pay and I have not seen them do a damn thing for anyone. In fact, I have seen them screw their employees over and over again and for the first time three years ago I tried to opt out and was told that it is now mandatory and cannot opt out.

They didn’t help me when I was having problems and they didn’t help my girlfriend who was put on open-ended “administrative leave” because she had a hand tremor. The hospital I work for sent her to a neurologist who determined that she was fine and could work but the hospital wouldn’t accept it and kept sending her to neurologist after neurologist who all said the same thing. Well, the hospital wouldn’t take no for an answer and she was on paid admin leave for more than two years. Half the time union never showed up for meetings, or returned calls, or said they couldn’t do anything, or just had a myriad of excuses and she finally got tired of fighting the hospital and her union after almost three years and got another, much lower paying job. So much for our great union. What a scam!

*****Obama’s VP choice imminent via website, e-mail, text message*****

An e-mail just sent out says Obama “is about to choose a running mate.” And when word comes, it will come by text message, e-mail and on the campaign website. An interesting twist that could mean the word might be released this week even during Obama’s family vacation.

The announcement will surely come before the Democratic National Convention starts in Denver on Aug. 25. It could even come while the candidate is on vacation, scheduled to end next Friday. If not, that leaves a 10-day announcement window of Aug. 15-25.

God has not been answering my prayers, I suppose my being agnostic has something to do with that, but I am praying it is not Senator Clinton. That probably means I should brace myself for that occurrence.

Comment by typical.white.person | 2008-08-11 00:23:34

Here is Bill Richardson this morning from This Week:

TAPPER: OK, there’s a lot of debate right now about the role that Senator Hillary Clinton should play at the Democratic convention.
You’re going to be holding a fundraiser for her later in the week to help her retire her debt. The question at the convention is, should there be a roll call vote?

Here’s what Senator Clinton herself had to say about what she wants to see at the convention. Here’s her speaking to some supporters a few days ago in San Francisco.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

CLINTON: I know, from just what I’m hearing, that there’s just — there’s incredible pent-up desire. And I think that, you know, people want to feel like, “OK, it’s a catharsis. We’re here. We did it.” And then everybody get behind Senator Obama.

(END VIDEO CLIP)
TAPPER: Very quickly, Governor, is this what the Democratic Party needs, a catharsis, a roll call vote for Senator Clinton?

RICHARDSON: No, I hope that doesn’t happen, but Senator Clinton is a major leader in the party. She will have a speaking role at the convention. We’re trying to bring the Obama, Clinton people together.

I’m holding a fundraiser — two fundraisers, actually, for her next week to retire her debt. We as Democrats have to come together.
So I don’t believe a roll call would be helpful.

But she is a major player. She will be speaking on primetime.
She is a leader in the party, a huge leader. And the best thing is for Democrats to come together, and that is happening. That is happening right now, Clinton, Obama supporters gradually coming together, and I think that’s important for us to be strong against Senator McCain, who will be a formidable opponent.

TAPPER: OK, Governor Richardson, we’re going to have to leave it there, speaking to us from Truth or Consequences, New Mexico. Thanks so much for joining us.

Coming together? Really?

Comment by Danny | 2008-08-11 01:28:55

Not so much – the only thing coming together is a grass roots movement against Barry Soetoro becoming POTUS.

If the asshat democrats don’t pull their collective heads out of the partys ass and do the right thing – We’re all voting for McCain.

PUMA – Not interested in the selection of Barry.

Comment by s. hall | 2008-08-11 02:42:48

typical white person — Me thinks Richardson and the DNC protest too much. Its not coming together and it never will. Dems lose elections even when the party is unified behind their nominee. They lose even when most Americans agree with the Dems on the important issues–with millions of Democrats leaving the party. Winning is impossible. All you have to do is look at Obama’s face and his swollen eyes to see he is well aware that he is the party’s albatross. They had to rest him and tell him what a winner he is or he will burst into tears.

Comment by typical.white.person | 2008-08-11 02:08:51

Obama running in violation of US election law

In order for her child to have been a natural-born US citizen, his mother would have had to be 21 at the time of his birth.

In essence, Mrs. Obama was not old enough to qualify her son for automatic US citizenship.

His mother would have needed to have been 16+5 = 21 years old at the time of Barack Obama’s birth for him to have been a natural-born citizen.

Barack Obama instead should have been naturalized, but even then, that would still disqualify him from holding the office of President under current law.

At best, Barack Obama is only a naturalized US citizen.

This is an issue that must be clarified before the election.

Naturalized citizens are ineligible to hold the office of President as is the case with Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Barack Obama was sent back to Hawaii at age 10, all the other information does not matter because his mother is the one who needed to have been a US citizen for at least 10 years prior to his birth on August 4, 1961, with 5 of those years being after she became age 16.

If Obama were elected President without being a natural-born US citizen, it would set precedence that would enable Governor Schwarzenegger and other naturalized US citizens to also run for President.

The above information may be presented from the floor at the Democratic National Convention, and my be the impetus of resurrecting Hillary Clinton’s Democratic Presidential campaign.

Comment by s. hall | 2008-08-11 02:59:00

Unions aren’t perfect & many of them are very nepotistic, dispite that, they usually uphold the working wage for the entire sector they represent. Until there’s a repeal of the “worker replacement act” all collective bargaining is at best a charade. Now take a good guess who was pres when it was enacted.

Comment by Gregory | 2008-08-11 08:18:00

I totally agree.
Unions are not a panacea, but they do a lot of good.
Workers in all of Europe actually earn a wage they can live on, get 4 to 5 weeks of paid vacation, are protected from being fired overnight at the boss’s whim and have power to muscle down big business when it gets too big for it britches (I’m trying to figure out what’s scary about that?! Job security, paid leave…it must be the 10 dollars a month it costs to join a union. I mean, your bank doesn’t STEAL more than that from you every month?!)

I don’t like Obama, but some of these comments (ranging from socialized medicine- which works in every Western country BUT the USA, to reproductive rights, workers’ rights and same-sex issues) are more the likes of a ‘republicon’ and not a democrat.

Anyone who doesn’t already know about it, there is a group called the Denver Group that is aggressively placing ads and doing other things to make sure Hillary gets a roll call vote and her name placed in nomination at the convention. Their current ad is about the Boston Tea Party and the similarities. They could use some donations too, even if you can only spare $5 bucks. The ads are great. I think they are placing them in some big prominent newspapers across the country.

Despite the arrogance and dismissiveness of Obama and this phone call, many of his naive supporters will excuse it and follow him into the abyss of NOTHINGNESS. What’s important to them is what is hip and cool. That is not how we select Presidents.

Of course Obama has no clue about Union jobs, it isn’t like he has ever worked one. His proposal’s come from the angle to do nothing that isn’t already being done, yet once again he attempts to prove he has the answer. He might want to do a little more homework on states rights as per labor laws and right to work states. The sad thing again is his “yadda-yadda, I can help the unions” when of course he has no method or means.

Someone needs to check their facts on this source. Laborpains.org is neither pro-labor nor pro-union. It is operated by the Center for Union Facts, an anti-union lobby group started by Richard Berman, an anti-union lobbyist. Previously a labor lawyer for Bethlehem Steel, he is the labor law director for the US Chamber of Commerce.

Hey, speaking of deleting comments, I posted a comment once, and it was in response to an Obamabot’s rant on racism.

I told him how they were the ones keeping racism front and center in everything they do because they use it to get what they want. In business, in help, in careers, in finances, in court, even to get away with murder!! Everything! They use it as leverage.

After I wrote that, the troll responded ever so slightly because he couldn’t think of anything to say, and then 20 minutes later, his original comment was deleted.

[...] How Obama Treats Labor (by SusanUnPC at No Quarter) This is from LaborPains.org, a pro-labor, pro-union blog. The title tells the story: “Stood Up and Hung Up” Then blogger J. Justin Wilson reveals the depressing details: “I just got off the AFL-CIO’s kick-off conference call with Obama. What a tragedy of errors. First of all, Sen. Obama was about 40 minutes late to the show. You can image how fantastic 40 minutes of Muzak went over. Finally, John Sweeney introduced Obama. Next … After rattling off nearly the exact same speech he delivered a few months ago to the AFL-CIO (see above), Obama proceeded to hang up. Click. Just like that.”… Go to “Stood Up and Hung Up” to view a video and to listen to the actual phone call… It is such an annoyance to have to talk to those “typical” little people. [...]

Originally I described the blog as “pro-labor.” That is not entirely true.

“Originally, I had described NoQuarter as pro-Obama. That is not entirely true.”

I mean, the title of the blog is “LaborPains.” It’s basically just dedicated to bashing labor unions and the very idea of card check unionization, which all the major unions support. The author’s probably on the payroll of the Chamber of Commerce or the National Association of Manufacturers. So you described the blog as the exact opposite of what he is, then acknowledged that that (1000% incorrect) description was “not entirely true.”

Well, fantastic. Can we expect a similar acknowledgment with regards to Obama’s alleged Kenyan, Indonesian, and Martian birth certificates/citizenship in the near future? Oh, wait, that’s a different one of you unhinged lunatics who’s pushing the birth certificate myth, isn’t it? It can be hard to tell you apart sometimes.

Jay Leno, of the long-running Tonight Show, said: “Barack Obama now says he’s open to offshore oil drilling. So, apparently, when he promised change, he was talking about his mind.”

I keep hearing top former Hillary supporters that true Hillary supporters are and will be supporting Obama and the rest of us are stupid no counts. Let me tell you something, anyone that believes that to be true are only the ones that have been promised something like money or place in his administration and us stupid no counts will go down in history as courageous true democrats trying to save the county that they love even if the party has to be destroyed and a new beginning.

Rules committee on the platform wouldn’t even listen to the people and what they wanted and stood for.
The whole democratic ticket down the line will pay dearly at the poles dismissing the voters the way they have.
