Is Hillary’s Campaign Really Dead?

webbox_edited-2.jpg

Is Hillary Clinton’s campaign really dead? The truth is, we really don’t know. So, bear with me for a few seconds here.

Schrödinger’s Cat is a famous thought experiment by an Austrian physicist whereby a hypothetical cat is placed in a closed chamber rigged with potentially deadly exposure to radiation. However, a series of random events may or may not occur before the chamber is opened, at which time the observers will learn whether the cat is alive or dead. Schrödinger believed that until the box is opened, the cat can be thought of as both alive and dead at the same time. (OK, that was the simple version. Erwin Schrödinger hung out with Einstein, after all. See more here .)

Not unlike Schrödinger’s Cat, as of right now Hillary’s campaign is both alive and dead at the same time. The media and the Obama campaign think it is dead. But the truth is that no delegate has voted and, potentially, anything can happen given the delegates’ right to change their votes until the second they cast it. Florida, Michigan, Edwards’ delegates (will he be stripped of them?) are potential players that could, theoretically anyway, alter the picture. And who knows, as long as there is some time left in the box, the media and the DNC might wake up to realize that “hope” and “change” were really just words after all. Or maybe something new will come to light.

We will know soon enough, and maybe you will think of me as a dreamer, but that box is still closed. And it won’t be opened until August 28th.

In the meantime, what about Hillary Clinton herself? Oh, she is very much alive and better than ever. Eighteen million of us can attest to that!

John McCain has cut Barack Obama’s lead in Iowa in half over the past month Last month Obama had a double-digit lead on McCain, 51% to 41%. Rasmussen

” Oh, she is very much alive and better than ever.”

Let’s not be drinking Koolaid ourselves. She endorsed Obama on June 4th, and so long as no one pressures her to keep her promise and help us take back the country, the campaign is dead.

I prefer RCP’s, because you can specify states that lean one way or another and toss-ups, and it keeps count of electoral votes automatically. Plus you can easily pull up state by state polls. You can’t save your results, though. Still, not really necessary. I *hate* the WaPo now, too.

Unless there is a major “tanking” of Obama I don’t think the DNC will allow her to have a nomination vote. I think even now they are scared to death that if it is allowed she will win.

I am still hopeful that the truth will come out about his “natural born” status – I believe that the law reads that he should not be POTUS now based on the fact that his mother was so young (18) and father was not an american citizen.

I just can’t understand why that point is not presented to the American people and why he has allowed to get this far in the process.

What arrogance on his part that he feels he can dupe the American public on this important fact.

Thank God there are sites like this where this information is brought out.

If they deny her a vote, the democratic party is history, as far as I am concerned.

Con artists always believe they can dupe enough people to be successful. But Obama forgot to factor in the Bush con that got to us first so that old

You can fool some of the people all of the time and you can fool some of the people some of the time, but you can’t fool all of the people all of the time

came into play. And then there’s that other forgotten maxim

Once burned twice shy.

Add that to the Peter and the Wolf factor and Obama’s con job didn’t have much chance of succeeding on all those can’t-fool-us sceptical PUMA types.

I don’t understand how Obama thinks he can stop a roll call vote. Okay say somehow the DNC strong arms her into releasing her delegates and she encourages them to vote for Obama. All that means is they are now free to vote for whoever. As Edwards delegates are free to vote for whoever. Say the DNC tries for unanimous voice vote for Obama. 1000 voices shouting NAY very loudly will not play well on TV and they have to do a roll call vote anyways. Barky can’t orchestrate the convention his way. Take your lumps NObama. Admit this is damn close and the supers will or will not push you over.

According to the Democratic rule book, Call to the Convention, any roll votes cast for a candidate who has not formally been accepted into nomination (through the process described) will be recorded as “Present.”

Comment by Ohio Mary | 2008-08-12 13:55:38

I wonder what would happen Obama’s name was placed into nomination, and the Superdelegates/delegates that voted for him did not provide the number he needs for nomination.

How great would that be?

Would they be forced then to place someone else’s name into nomination. Or if Hillary’s delegates did vote for her and she reached the number needed for nomination, even though she was not on the ballot – what would they do?

It makes me smile to even think it might happen.

Comment by American Woman | 2008-08-12 14:20:03

You know those Rules are the Rules…they have made up thier minds…to change them, follow them, ignore them whatever the situation needs..to force this FAUX Democrat on us.

Comment by Tuppence 411 | 2008-08-12 17:10:14

So Obama’s choices are:
1.) a fake roll call with a 1000 plus “presents”
2.) a voice vote with a 1000 plus shouting “nay”
Neither option 1 or option 2 does much for the unity dog and pony show. Or 3.) Let the roll call happen as it usually does. He will NEVER get a unaniomous vote, so he really doesn’t have much of a choice.

Comment by FranSC | 2008-08-12 12:31:45

Consider this: Obama, the DNC, along with the help of “good o’l boys member” Nancy Pelosi – disallowing the top vote getters’ names to be placed in nomination, disallowing the usual roll-call vote except for the candidate of their choice, when the top two candidates each have half the delegates in that room . Worst of all, this will be happening on the night of the convention speech celebrating the exact day of the anniversary of women being given the right to vote, and the speaker is the first woman for president who received more votes than the presumptive nominee. This is anarchy!

Comment by Karma | 2008-08-12 13:06:40

I saw that too…thanks for bring it up.

According to the rulz….it is place Hillary in nomination or have the spectre of of all those voices against Obama.

It seems to be the missing puzzle piece they are ‘negotiating’, while still slamming Clinton and her supporters. And why Donna was claiming that Hillary would place her name in ceremonially and then pull it out for Obama. They are hoping to silence both versions of the rulz and voters.

On another show last week, they were claiming how embarrassing it would be for Clinton now that many of her delegates have made the switch. That it would show her in a worse light with less support from delegates than she had when she suspended her campaign. Which is missing the point completely….as usual.

How many different ways are they trying to suppress democracy? And why are they still in control? I am starting to think a lawsuit against Dean, Brazile, and the DNC is in order.

The purpose of Democrats ’08: Connect-the-Dots is to look at past Democratic Conventions, explain the superdelegates and their responsibility, explain the differences between Lobbyists and PACs as well as Primaries and Caucuses, to detail the Florida/Michigan Primary fiasco, and to suggest a true nomination and roll call vote for Senator Clinton. (After all, every primary candidate before her has had this opportunity.)

Do you have any proof that these are the same people? Techdude is suprisingly a popular name on the Internet. How do we know that GIGI is TD? Oh they are both from Texas. I get it now. Right. Up is now down and left is now right. I forgot.

Comment by The Clintons are smart | 2008-08-12 11:47:58

They share a very distinctive style of punctuation. There’s a heavy use of dashes to set off comments or parse sentences. And there’s a paucity of commas. There’s also a fairly heavy use of parentheses. According to what I’ve recently read in the authorship identification literature, punctuation has turned out to be one of the most informative and reliable features.

Both Techdudes like to use ALL CAPS for emphasis. Both Techdudes like to use emoticons. Both use the phrase “3rd party” instead of the more common “third party.”

The Texas Darlin ‘Techdude’ and the Stormfront ‘Techdude’ both have a lower than average word size, and are similar to each other – 4.61 characters for the TexasDarlin samples, and 4.63 characters for the Stormfront samples. The samples from other authors fell into the range of 4.76-5.64 characters (mean of 5.12, standard deviation of 0.27). So the two ‘Techdude’ samples fell outside the range of the other authors and resembled each other.

Like Ray, se, MarkL, Joseph Cannon, Koyyan = all the same person. Doesn’t take a genius or in depth analysis. Also doesn’t take much to tell that 85% of the trolls that come here and “banter” with each other are really the same person posting under different names to try to add legitimacy. Or to tell that you USUALLY post under BILLANDHILLARY CLINTONBOTHSUPPORTOBAMANOW.

Oops. I used parentheses and caps for emphasis. Maybe I’m really Texas Darlin. If I’d used a 3rd technique, maybe I am TechDude. Aw, now I’ve gone and done it! I’m both of them!

Comment by bemused | 2008-08-12 12:48:11

I notice that in this block you use much longer words than in your previous posts, making a longer word size. I’m preoccupied and ATM I haven’t got a reference, but it lingers in my mind that the average English word length in text is about 4-6 characters. In other words, you are saying they are close to average in word length. Also, you are not allowing for the clipped style popular in web writing. But “the archeology of words” or discourse analysis is quite popular in anthropology, I believe. Perhaps you could cite your reference. Thank you.

Comment by lmv | 2008-08-12 13:24:27

This was hilarious.

I guess I better watch my dashes, commas, and characters. Obots have nothing better to do than count these.

Bot, you’ve described most internet posts. Most are written in stream-of-consciousness (Virgina Woolf) and are written for maxium punch – hence the dashes and CAPITALS (and asides, you know, like you’re talking to someone).

I guess you rarely have thougths and have no need for consciousness and, since you have few friends, you don’t practice the art of conversation much, either.

Comment by Disgusted | 2008-08-12 14:22:24

Even if that is the case, which is exremely unlikely, how is GIGI = Texas Darlin? Both have a tendancy to capitalize words that start a sentence? Both end sentences with either a question mark or a period? Gotta be honest here OBOT, I think you have a bit to much free time on your hands. I mean honestly who goes to different sites and tries to analyze writing styles? Then to top it all off you come here and use this as some form of proof. Sad.

And they’re copying and pasting text from Cannon’s blog without providing attribution (or distinguishing between quotes embedded in Cannon’s post versus comments written by Cannon himself).

They’re being intellectually dishonest and sloppy, making it look like the analyses and conclusions are their own.

Furthermore, there’s no good evidence that Texas Darlin=Gigi from Texas at Stormfront. That’s sheer speculation.

However, if you actually look at the writing style and tone, it does seem most likely to me that the ‘Techdude’ sending reports to Texas Darlin (and to Polarik at Atlas) is the same ‘Techdude’ as the one posting on the white supremacist site Stormfront. And, as Cannon points out, the Stormfront ‘Techdude’ has advocated using subterfuge to infiltrate other (non-racist) sites. Also, while many of the posters at Stormfront don’t favor involvement in electoral politics (they want to go off by themselves and do their own little neo-nazi thing), Stormfront ‘Techdude’ favors involvement in U.S. electoral politics (e.g. to spread stories about Obama).

Here’s the link to Cannon’s post regarding Techdude:
http://cannonfire.blogspot.com/2008/08/is-this-last-techdude-post-i-hope-so.html
For this blog entry, also read comment #35, posted by ‘G’.

Comment by Jacksonian | 2008-08-13 22:38:57

One additional comment. Techdude’s con should have been obvious from the very beginning. For example:

Techdude at Atlas_Shrugs July 08, 2008
“All will be revealed eventually – I am just wary of finding my brake lines cut and my bunny boiled in a pot of water”
http://atlasshrugs2000.typepad.com/atlas_shrugs/2008/07/who-died-and-ma.html

Techdude at Atlas_Shrugs July 20, 2008
“As some of you may or may not know some asshat decided to track me down and vandalize my car and hang a dead mutilated rabbit from my front door in a lame attempt to intimidate me”
http://atlasshrugs2000.typepad.com/atlas_shrugs/2008/07/atlas-exclusive.html

Then finally, Texas Darlin posted on August 10, 2008
“Techdude has informed me that he is unable to continue his work at this time, due to family obligations and ongoing threats.”

The most important thing for Obama supporters to do is to work hard to help Hillary lose her Senate seat in New York. She and Bill are a disgrace. Fortunately Barack Obama will as America’s most brilliant President remove the tarnish of the Clintons and that includes all their supporters. Bush and Clinton have caused America shame around the world. It is time for the world to find world peace and Barack and us followers of his are eminently qualified to bring prosperity and peace to the rest of the world.

Yup, they’ve turned the left vs right paradigm on it’s head.

It is now an “O” and neocons and Obots are side by side and quite possibly overlapping.

I guess that is why they try and insult us as Republicans. These clowns probably voted for Bush twice.

I think it was Kat who said that they have all this remorse/guilt for not waking up to Bush or the war sooner. So, they think that voting Dem this year will assuage that guilt. She said it more eloquently, but it does track with their thought that Republican is a dirty word. Or utilizing the Republican talking points against the Clintons.

a) Not very likely. She won by 62% in 2006, and she’s still very popular here (unlike Obama).

b) Guess that means that the party is out to screw her, so she should stop campaigning for Obama and try to win the nomination in Denver instead of playing nicely.

c) You are an ignoramus (not to mention a walking ad for Roe v Wade).

The one thing I have no doubt about is that the Clintons recognize that they are in a vipers nest…the “O”, Dean, and
Pelosi!
I think she is willing to give her speech and let the chips fall where they may.
Pat Buchanan said months ago that the “O” would “spurn” Hillary at the convention, and he got that right. He also mentioned how outraged his female relatives were about the “Hillary is likeable” remark!
If we are still essentially a 50-50 split across the country, with even 10% of the old party leaving, the “O” will be the most despised President in history!!!!

Pat hasn’t lied to me as many times as Obama has, and Pat has been around forever.

Now he is one of the best talking heads (TH) out there. He will say the things others don’t and get them back to reality.

And he called it like it was on that bitter-gate comment while all those other TH were placing the blame on the voters for getting upset. He placed it back on Obama and explained the obvious to them.

Calling people racists isn’t a way to get their votes.

Comment by yttik | 2008-08-12 11:30:20

The whole point of a convention is supposedly to nominate a candidate. People vote, there’s dissent, and eventually somebody is named. You never have unity or a nominee with 100% approval. In 2004, kucinich kept his delegates. And 29 other people refused to vote for Kerry. He became the nominee but it wasn’t unanimous.

Comment by beachnan | 2008-08-12 11:32:47

It’s not over until the convention votes. Till then, we do whatever we can to further Hillary’s chances. If the convention goes as expected, (hopefully not, but if it does), then our work begins– to insure that the Dems and Obama go down in flames in November. Then we resurrect the Party.

Our country needs Hillary Rodham Clinton as POTUS.

She is a hard-working, serious, well-prepared kind of person we need very badly in the WH! I am hoping that she will get the support she has rightly, justly earned.

If the DNC breaks with their own traditions (since 1884) and does not call Hillary’s name as part of the roll call, it will let me know that they are not about equality (as they claim). That they are a sham organization hell-bent on doing what they want and not what is right.

They will, effectively, have turned themselves into a greater laughingstock than they already are. The world is watching, DNC – are you or are you not about equality? How is it that every man has had the opportunity to challenge but Hill will not?

A person such as HRC who actually cares about people. Who has spoken for those who cannot speak for themselves her life’s work. Comes to us so rarely. She has taken the long, hard road to get here. That is why she must continue to have our support. She is exactly the caliber of person we need in the WH.

Comment by Woman Voter | 2008-08-12 11:40:58

No one can ever say that Hillary isn’t a worker and a ‘loyal servant’ to her country and its people. The woman just keeps giving and working, ever present that her country needs her and indeed we do.

We are lucky to have and she is very loved by so many.

The DNC spit at her and their only winning candidate since Carter, yet she stands up for them. I say do on to them as they have done onto you. Country before party always.

Oh and for the very drugged…Obama’s answer celebrity add came off as pathetic as it actually is, John McCain actually gave something to his country, and has done something for his country he has a resume.

I would vote for Hillary, but unless she is on top of the ticket I will vote for McCain…Obama never!

All Right! Huddle Up!

“It ain’t over until It’s over!”

Every one see the U.S. Mens’ Olympic 400 relay Monday evening?

You have got to Believe.

You have got to stay focused on the “Matador” not his “cape”.

What does that mean? This!

Michelle has a “Whitey Tape”—-Cape.

Bungled Georgia/Russia statements show he is not ready to lead.—Matador.

Barack’s COLB is a forgery.—— Mostly Cape.

Barack is Arrogant with the phony Presidential Seal, Flag off the Plane, President Obama on his plane’s chair.—-Matador.

He Can’t close the deal— Matador

He lost all the swing states, all the big states, all the battleground states. —-Matador.

He’s now loosing them to McCain in the polls. —-Matador.

Edwards and Obama, both one term Senators who are not ready to lead.—–Matador.

He is heading for a George McGovern size defeat and will take the Democratic Congress, which has only a 9% favorable rating, down with him —-Matador.

Hillary has won more votes in a Primary than any other Candidate in the History of This Country.

Hillary Supporters, You have to rally one more time—

AND THAT TIME IS RIGHT NOW!

You most come off the sidelines and convince enough unpledged delegates to vote Hillary.

It is on you to get it done.

The MSM is already trying to scape goat Bill & Hill for Obama’s falling polls.

This is up to every one of you.

Games ARE won in the last of the ninth, with two out and nobody on.

They ARE won in the last ten seconds, with recovered fumbles, interceptions, blown putts.

Stay Focused because it has come down to this.

Barack’s poor polls have let Hillary supporters back in the game for one last, desperate slight, razor thin opportunity to “Pull the upset”.

This is a gift from the Gods.

You have been hear before, In N.H., on Super Tues. The Ohio/ Texas votes, Indianna, Penn. S. Dakota and each time you pulled off the upset.

My money is on you.

These are the exact conditions you have been hoping against hope for.

One last chance to take the field.

Remember the Men’s 400 relay Monday and BELIEVE!

Remember the Giants’ final drive in the Super bowl and Believe.

There is no tomorrow after August 28th.

If you loose on the 28th you go home and don’t get to play on Super Tuesday in November.

OK! Lets Get This Drive Started.

Who’s Coach of This Team? And What’s the play??

Comment by Dawnelle Leona del Puma | 2008-08-12 12:49:55

good analogy

but I think your huddle would be better served if sent or proclaimed so the delegates and supers can hear or read it

MOST of us have already long since done our parts and keep doing them.

Personally I have stopped with the emails to the supers cuz most come back with mean retorts or just STOP on them.

Also I rarely get any response except the automated ones from CNN or MSNBC (actually I don’t do diddly with msnbc anymore except surf by)

If the supers and delegates are in reality paid staffers or glorified used car salesmen then we are toast and all we could or can do is VOTE them out in NOV. We ALMOST got Bambi out in the PRIMARIES and actually we DID win the ACTUAL votes.

yep – I hope I live long enough for the BOOK to come out (the truth) on this. Not someone drooling anchors half assed opinion.

argh I’m wore out – bbl

Will Clinton’s name go into nomination? Stay tuned

WASHINGTON (CNN) — If Sen. Hillary Clinton’s name is placed in nomination in Denver, Colorado, this year, it wouldn’t be the first time that a candidate was beaten in the primaries and still formally contested the nomination at the convention.

But it would be the first time in the modern era of presidential primaries that a losing candidate has so visibly endorsed an opponent so many months before the convention, and then gone on to have his or her name placed in nomination.

Clinton can still win votes from delegates at the Democratic National Convention even if her name is not placed in nomination. Delegates are free to vote for anyone they want to at the convention.

At past conventions, delegates have even been known to vote for fictional characters (Archie Bunker) and dead people (George Orwell).

It’s likely that Clinton will pick up some votes unless Sen. Barack Obama is nominated by acclamation.

Comment by Don S for Hillary | 2008-08-12 16:03:01

Pat, as usual, your cartoons hone in on crucial issues. Is it still possible Hillary could emerge as the nominee at the convention? Whether the cat is dead or emerges alive when the lid is lifted depends on the ferment inside and outside the DNC box. There are a lot of unanswered questions. Will her name be placed in nomination? Does she want it to be? Would delegates vote for her in droves if it is? Is she working a deal with Obama? Does she want to be VP? Is she stumping for him in order to get a cabinet position? Have she and Bill really decided to work hard to get Obama elected? What is her game plan? Many people think they know the answers to these questions. There is a lot going on behind closed doors and no doubt deals are being made. I guess we will have to wait and see when the lid on the box is opened at the convention. We may be in for some big surprises and possibly a fireworks display of erupting emotions that could solidify or destroy the chances of putting a Domocrat in the White House in November.

Comment by Miss H | 2008-08-12 19:10:58

Tears For Fears – Shroedinger’s Cat

Last train to Norwich…
Summer days that blind your face will soon be dead and gone
Better get it on!
Tuned to a day the babe against the world
You took the best seat rather risk it when the chips were down
Better make it long.
Schrodinger’s cat is dead to the world.

You say your cat sees in the dark.
You criticize the play and isolate the box.
I always knew you were a scientist at heart.
Just as the breeze with speed and build, you sat upon the fence,
Clucking like a chicken making perfect sense.

Pass that gun, hand me that knife,
Man’s little monster has been brought back to life.

You say your cat sees in the dark.
You criticize the flow and isolate the box.
I always knew you were a scientist at heart.
I always knew you were.

Last train to Norwich…
Schrodinger’s cat is dead to the world.
