The Folly of My Ways: Not Vetting Obama on The “l”

I must admit I was unaware of Obama’s non-support of “live birth measures” in the Illinois Senate until this morning. I heard the ramblings about “live birth” measures and Obama. I did not vet him on this subject because I am long past the age of “giving birth” (my kids are in their middle 20s). I wasn’t sure it had much to do with me.

I see the folly of my ways. It isn’t that it has much to do with me, it is about the depth of my “maternal” instinct. It hurts my “heart” to see Obama, a presumptive nominee for the Democratic Party, so unfeeling, that he cares nothing for the life of a baby!

If my children had come early, barely clinging to life, I would have done everything in my power to save their lives. I was very fortunate not to experience caring for a sick child, but I had many friends who did experience it. My children are my legacy I will leave to this world when I am no longer here, they are special to me as are all babies and children. They are our future and as such we must offer them every chance at life. Even if we are required to enact laws to do it!

The original IL bill. The IL Senate ammendment. And finally the bill passed in the US Senate, passed unanimously by a vote of 98-0.

I am definitely educated now. I have viewed several videos, read a few articles and even the paper from the pro-life people. I can honestly say I am appalled. Obama’s actions are reprehensible!

On Sunday Obama got testy with David Brody on the Brody files. He went so far to accuse “people”, me and you of lying on this subject! We have it wrong! The presumptuous nominee could never be wrong! How arrogant! Listen to his words!

Obama you are digging your hole deeper and deeper. If I knew about this 5 years ago, I would have protested your candidacy as soon as you began to run for the presidency. You would have lost me with your lies and more lies on this subject! The only “gift” I have received from you, the resolve to do everything in my power to see you go down in defeat. You are a callous man with deep flaws especially about the life of a baby!

Obama is so mad at his critics. He is saying that they are all lying about his position on abortion and how he voted and didnt vote.

Comment by fif | 2008-08-18 22:58:33

His critics all lie, his opponents cheat, people who don’t vote for him are stupid or racist–it must be nice being infallible.

Right.

This is what the DNC has done. This is what we have to look forward to, thanks to the incredible arrogance of the DNC plutocracy, in defiance of Democratic Party voters, who overwhelmingly wanted Hillary Clinton as their nominee. Turn the map blue? Doesn’t look that way. Check it out:

That is because what you are saying is a lie. why dont you obama-haters just try to read or listen to what he says…there is a little more to the sound bites of what a candidate says (at least in obama’s case, McCain’s not so much). he explained it, I get it, why don’t you? because you know darn well that if you did take the time to think, you might discover that he has something of substance to say – and that would ruin your obama-hate.

Ellen,

Excuse me …
But we have listened and read what he has to say and that is why we will NOT vote for him. I suggest you listen and read before making such idiotic comments.

these Obama crazies sound like a woman who has found her lover in bed with someone else; he tells her it is just a friend who was tired and just resting. the woman believes and goes around trying to convince all the neighbors and friends who see him at it everyday, that they are all wrong. Her husband is such good man who is being maligned.

LOL! Ellen, sweetie, he explains EVERYTHING. Far too much explaining, that’s the problem. He does not take a principled stand because he wants to pander to all sides, and then when he gets caught in a position, he has to justify it with his word fogs. He never knew what Wright was preaching? Oh, then he did. Then he didn’t. I forgot what the final explanation was, so he gave a big speech to distract everyone from the first lie. Americans are tired of all his words–there is not clarity or courage of his convictions. If you are so drunk on Kool Aid you cannot see his numerous and sudden flip-flops, then I suggest detox.

Ellen, he “spoke” in his votes. They are his. He owns them forever. Small though they are, they are not sound bites. They are lengthy philosophical discourses to those who have eyes to see, and ears to hear. His record is what it is. He is indefensible. Like the 1st pig of the 3 little pig story, he built his house of straw. Now it can’t stand a whisper against it.

Comment by Hope Floats | 2008-08-19 01:32:27

Oh, No no no. There were “present” votes and “no” votes. He held this legislation up while he was in the IL Senate. Jill Stanek has a great top 10 list of excuses Obama has given for why he supported infanticide.

Your problem is obvious to the rest of us, and you stated it yourself, you listen to him and BELIEVE him. It is amazing to me that a CONSTITUTIONAL SCHOLAR could read and not see the identical language in both the federal and state legislation. He is fooling himself if he thinks people buy his excuses. Evangelicals are not persuaded and independents whose pro choice positions are not as radical as leaving a child to die on a gurney will be disgusted. He is lost. I don’t know who he was pandering to in Illinois but I hope he got his money’s worth.

Can’t you see he is going to destroy this Country and all she stands for. He even said from his own stupid mouth that there are a lot of things in the constitution that he disagrees with. Oh great is he going to rewright it? and yes I meant Wright as in his pastor. Do we want to live by liberation theology????? WTF this is America not Indonesia or Kenya! He is never going to win so give it up Kool-aid drinkers.

If he gets in we are all in grave danger….Come on Hillary save the day!!!!! Or John McCain….NEVER OBAMA!

Sen. Obama quoted Matthew 25:40 which reads, “Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.” He claimed this was the philosophy or theology that he ascribes to in all his dealings and it is what he believed all Americans should be doing.
Only minutes later he dodged the question of when life begins and how he thought abortions should be curbed but never disallowed by law. His position about abortion was instantly betrayed by the verse he had only moments before so confidently affirmed.” Saddleback Forum

I’ll be glad when this election is over. I actually found this article offensive and I’m probably in the minority. I don’t like Senator Obama. I’m not going to vote for him. But I have serious doubts about the late-term abortion example which has been posted on this and other sites. I am pro-choice. Period. I think the decisions people make about their own bodies is up to them. They don’t need input from me. Obama’s judgment is poor, in my opinion, as I look at his associates; and he’s inexperienced. And the Dean Cabal needs to be put in its place by a spectacular loss in November. But this constant parsing of choice and late-term abortions is incredibly offensive to me.

Comment by beebop | 2008-08-19 06:56:00

If you believe that a botched late term abortion that results in the live birth of an infant and allows that live being to die for want of care is a serious doubts issue than 0bama is not your biggest problem. IMHO.

Comment by WMCB | 2008-08-19 07:43:15

I m pro-choice as they come, but this is not about the womans body in this case. This is the off chance that the fetus SURVIVES a late-term procedure, and is lying there on it’s own, viable. Obama voted to deny it any care.

Sorry, but that has nothing to do with the mother’s body at that point. At that point, the VAST majority of people would call it a life, and save it.

Comment by Kal | 2008-08-19 08:39:14

I am totally opposed to BO. Absolutely.

But here is what I do not understand about the live birth issue, and I hope someone who knows more about it can answer this question:

The definition in the Ill. legislation (I could not operate the links to the US version) defines ‘alive’ or ‘live’ so widely that I can see that any number of very marginal ’survivals’ of abortion of even very early fetuses could be classified as live births under this legislation. If that did happen, then I think parents still have the final say as to whether heroic measures will be taken to save the life of their challenged newborn. But will this statute put pressure on some doctors to initiate heroic measures, or place pressure on mothers to agree to heroic measures that they cannot afford, or that would simply prolong the death of the newborn?

I guess my question is how often these types of situations arise, and in what types of fact situations. With such a large population as the US, almost any horrible scenario can emerge (remember Terry Shaivo), and once the media get hold of such situations, a lot of political damage can be done.

Anybody know anything about this?

Comment by bemused | 2008-08-19 09:49:39

The mechanics of birth and abortion and conditions necessary for life are such that no early fetus is really surviving. Maybe, if it wasn’t mashed up in the process, it might flop a little. Sorry, but it is brutal. I had the sorrow of watching a couple with a non-viable baby end their pregnancy by inducing labor at 17 weeks. This had to be done very gradually to produce an intact infant for baptism (though it still was born dead, but the parents were totally brokenhearted already and didn’t want a messed-up corpse) because the normal stress of labor would have squashed this little baby. They are about as substantial as spaghetti at this stage, and that is 2nd trimester.

Comment by chris | 2008-08-19 10:26:46

Our family had the experience of a premature birth with the pregnancy ending at 7.2 months. The child was 1.14lbs at birth and was placed in the NeoNatal ICU at a very fine hospital. He survived and is now 36 years old and a healthy happy young man. Had he been “left” alone he surely would have died. It was a very stressful but uplifting time for all of us. No baby, even at full term, can exist on it’s own without human help. A little one who strugles to live after the raw trauma of a late term, live birth abortion deserves the help and care it needs to either survive or die with dignity. Who could discard a living being to a garbage can while still alive? And some of these fools complain about Gitmo and the torture the US inflicts? Hypocrisy reigns doesn’t it. These are barbaric laws to allow this torture to occur. No amount of OB spinning his reasons for voting for this can change the callousness of his decision. Obviously, he didn’t spend much time reviewing the consequences of his actions before he took them. Typical for this shallow, lazy presidential wannabe. He has the judgement skills and work ethic of a slug and even they do better at their jobs. Help us all if he succeeds in becoming POTUS. Not that I think he has a chance, but he shouldn’t even be where he is at this point. What a farce for the Dems.

Comment by chris | 2008-08-19 10:47:28

I take it back-the part about him being lazy, and uninformed about his actions on this issue. After reviewing the youtube video below, it seems he voted 3 times against protecting these innocents. That is deliberate choosing on his part and has to be the most horrendous damnation against him yet. He is evil that’s all there is to it. Get rid of this nominee before it is too late Dems. This will kill his candidacy and it well should. Do it while you have a chance to put a real, ethical, experienced person to head into the election. Man I’m so angry about this! He should resign today for this. How can the press support him at all after this revelation? Nothing he says to try and get out of this one will be good enough for the average american whether they repect pro-choice or not.

Comment by Boxer Mum 06 | 2008-08-19 12:39:03

Who could discard a living being to a garbage can while still alive?

And what happens to the mothers who have done such a thing? They are put on trial for murder? Isn’t this a double standard?

Comment by chris | 2008-08-19 14:42:24

It is terrible, tragic and seemingly inexcusable. However, they are mostly young emotionally troubled girls who have a distinct illness and a lack of touch with reality. Obama doesn’t have that reason(he voted 3 times the same way) nor do the people performing these procedures and dumping the babies after separation from the mother, especially if the babies were alive. It is cruel beyond belief to do that deliberately. To support letting these unfortunate babies suffer deliberately with out help and care is evil. It has nothing to do with abortion rights or mental illness. It has everything to do with being a compassionate human being.

Ellen: You are either bloody naive, silly or just trying to disrupt.

I was allowed to comment on Huff & Puff until I had the audacity to civilly ask for fairness when discussing the Democratic candidates…as in “Don’t eat your own.” Thou shalt not speak ill of another Democrat was one reminder I gave those cretins. I began to regularly be “moderated” and my post would not come up. After 5/31 when I tried to express my dismay and shock and complain about the theft of the primary I was censored for good. Never called names, never used a foul word. My opinions were not what they wanted to read. That convinced me that it was time to lose the losers and re-register as an Independent. There is no Democratic Party.

Having your write privileges and your IP-subnet blocked means you’re effectively banned from voicing your views on HuffPo.

When a read/write publishing site turns into a read-only site it’s no longer an interactive site for the individual and thus they are banned.

There are several ways to trap IP addressed, even if they are dynamically produced to keep any host object from interacting.

There are also several ways for those being banned to validate that they are having their IP blocked.

Don’t know if his link is still valid … but this story was one of the best in revealing how vulnerable Obama is.

After the convention the GOPers are going to literally beat this guy half-to-death with his own record. And, unlike Hillary and the MSM, they’re NOT going to let him off easy or let him get away with lies.

This one issue alone will bring the evangelicals, pro-lifers and even moderates back to McCain. It will give Obama the YUK factor. And, when Obama turns to the Dem base – the un-needed Democrats – they won’t be there.

The Independents will Not decide this election – the Hillary Democrats will.

Eight Years As State Senator Were Full Of Controversial Votes, Including Abortion And Gun Control

SPRINGFIELD, Ill., Jan. 17, 2007

Obama is just like bush in this aspect. He presuposes a stragety behind everything. Why? Because he is coniving like that, so he assumes everyone else is. What he was saying in that interview is typical reactionary rehtoric, whether from the left or right, it has the same falicous overtones. He basically said that there was some kind of conspiracy a foot that would lead to the roe vs. wade being overturned in the future, that is, although this bill didn’t specifically say so, it was a step toward that.

LISTEN to what he is saying. He is absolutely using preasumption. This is exactly the SAME attitude Bush had when he attacked Iraq. It shows you his character and how he makes judgement calls. He is just a reactionary as Bush was. There is NO middle ground with him.

Comment by Hope Floats | 2008-08-18 23:23:22

I think he took money from some medical company or lobby – was it Planned Parenthood he said made him do it? The “right wing conspiracy” argument here is weak. He never thought he would get called out on it just like his six “wrong” votes and all his present votes. Or maybe he thought he could leave it behind.

He reminds me of a woman I worked with. She was stealing from the boss, but nobody could pin it to her for sure for a while. Before she was caught, though, and she covered her tracks and quit before she was fired, she made up a ridiculous story that Morissey was in love with her. She would buy herself expensive “gifts” and then fret about whether she would move to London or not and talk about him calling her in the middle of the night.

She and Obama were like Eve Harrington in the film. They are first rate liars, ruthlessly ambitious and miserable people once you get to know them. I have never met Obama, but it’s telling that none of his old schoolmates or coworkers have anything to say about him. Dems on the Hill complained it’s all his show, and he’s not looking out for downticketers.

That’s the problem with lying, you have so many you start to believe it and then forget that you lied in the first place. Barry Soetoro hasn’t caught on that he’s being video taped and that there are paper trails. Not too bright that one.

I think everyone, even the most die-hard Obama supporters need to see this film.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VIdbYjmbFzo

Please, forward this to everyone you know, and beg them to contact their local delegates, and elected officials demanding that they NOT vote to nominate Barack Obama at the convention. There is NO way someone who votes in favor of this atrocious crime can ever win in a general election nor SHOULD they!

This isn’t about whether you believe in a woman’s right to choose, this is about a practice so heinous even NARAL will not come out and support.

Please pass this on to EVERYONE!

Whew! This is something that will bite Obama in the ass. There’s no way you can defend this practice. It’s inhuman. I’m pro-choice but this is absolutely barbaric. How could anyone vote against a bill rejecting a practice that regards a live birth like a piece of refuse? Oh, that’s right. He had the lobbyists to consider.

This is the one issue that could be fatal for the Obama campaign. He might wiggle-wobble on Rezko and Ayers and host of other things. But this?

It’s truly disgusting. And saying he didn’t understand the ramifications of the bill does not wash either, Mr. Constitutional lawyer.

Makes me a little ill just thinking about it.

Was this a question that “above his pay grade?” Sorry, but there’s no way to “nuance” this decision or talk your way around it. The Republicans will nail him on this issue.

Karma is a bitch!

If the SD’s change their mind and vote for HRC and she gets the nomination, she will lose to McCain.

Obama’s supporters, especially the black vote, WILL NOT support HRC. They will think the nomination was stolen from obama and either stay home or vote against the evil clintons.

The best thing for HRC is to see obama nominated and make sure he loses to McCain. 2012 would be hers.

Comment by trist | 2008-08-18 23:03:20

I’m not willing to wait 4 MORE years if we can do ANYTHING to get her elected now.
Yes there are plenty of blacks who will cry foul, but as a black person myself, I care more for the future of our country than the collective feels of some in the black community. Guess I’ll just have to say to them and the Obama culties what the DNC has been saying to us for months now…..”get over it!”

She doesn’t have to make sure that Obama will lose against McCain. Obama does that.

I believe in Hillary. If anybody, she can unite the Democratic Party again.

I just don’t see how she could win the nomination after delegates have been switched, etc.

Barry Soetoro has been busy stealing/switching/manipulating Clinton’s delegates — calling and intimidating Clinton’s delegate. No, of course, not Barry Soetoro personally but the goons that work for Barry.

They had to steal Clinton’s Florida & Michigan delegates — and then the caucus state delegates. They have a war room, somewhere — and files on each delegate. No wonder the Super Delegates are falling in line like lambs to the slaughter.

So certainly the fix is in — at the same time everyone who can go to Denver and fight for what is RIGHT and JUST and democratic — you are all my heroes.

But the fix is in — however, Barry Soetoro has done crimes — Rezko is sitting in jail a convicted criminal — and Rezko was NOT elected. What Barry Soetoro and the other ELECTED politicians did was worse — and they should be sitting in jail with Rezko. The Governor of Illinois and Barry Soetoro — and the other pay to play gang of the Chicago political machine.

Rezko, Soetoro and that gang STOLE from the taxpayer and stole from poor people — while they lived in mansions. They are evil.

We need a Democrat in the white house — Barry Soetoro isn’t a democrat — he is part of the Chicago Political machine and they don’t have a political party.

Howie Dean and Polosie must be demoted — they are as evil and as corrupt as Soetoro.

The only thing we can do is deliver a HUGE defeat to Barry Obama/Soetoro on 4 November. This is the only way to clean house.

northwest rain…

truer words have not been spoken.

the fix has been in since before the obama convention speech in 04. that speech was set up by howie dean and john kerry and those who choose to remain anonymous for good reason.

the clinton ambush was well planned. most likely as a backup in case she refused to fall in line with the elite dem “leaders” and the global moneychangers who are the ones who pretty much control the forward push towards the one world order theory of social domination.(my tin hat has become quite a fashion statement this election cycle)

barry soetoro/obama has been groomed for some time as the manchurian candidate “who couldn’t lose”. The One who is young enough and ambitious enough to collude with his handlers. The Empty Slate that could be projected upon. The Sweet Talking Pretty Face that would seduce and intimidate for the cretins he works for.

and the secret war room filled with intimidating secrets used to manipulate and terrorize delegates and superdelegates is a given that absolutely is the icing on the rotting cake.

the fix has been in for some time now. but 18,000,000 Hillary Democrats are not as dumb as they think we are. a good portion of those votes can not be bought or racially intimidated to shore up the now crumbling obamacan coup. many of us will quietly go in and check the box for McCain. no big fanfare. no hysterics…just a people’s party taking their stand against against injustice and corruption.

the one world order social engineers have played their hand too soon.
Democracy is indeed alive and well in this country. barry soetoro/obama will not Democratically win the GE. he may steal it, but he will not win it.

the “democratic” party is over and the party leaders will be exposed for the corrupt body that they are .the bought and intimidated delegates and superdelegates will be voted out of office by the people they sold down the river. as they should be.

this is America folks…and though the revolution will not be televised, it continues to unroll.

John McCain will yet again be asked to stand for his country under fire.

keep freedom ringing.

When will you Obamatrons get it [probably never]. This isn’t about Hillary Clinton anymore. It’s about an unqualified, inexperienced, fraud of a candidate, who has fudged his “accomplishments,” his voting past and refuses to answer any question directly. I know that in Obamaworld up is down, left is right. Being prepared for a televised forum is now considered cheating and anyone who criticizes Barack Obama is a liar or a racist.

Hello? It does not work anymore.

The curtain has been pulled aside and the Wizard of Oz is a merely a man with a short resume, a willingness to pander in every direction and an over-inflated ego [sort of like those tires he spoke of several weeks ago]. There’s nothing to read, nothing to hear. We’ve heard it all.

Don’t let the African Americans steal a moniker that has belonged to people getting sober for 60+ years. nuff’ said.

Comment by SandyK | 2008-08-18 23:50:30

Michael,

Doesn’t the black vote make up about 30-40% of the democratic vote? How could HRC win without that demographic? Also, you are forgetting the Obamatons, whose hatred for Hillary knows no bounds and would never vote for her. Or would they?

Comment by navyvet48 | 2008-08-19 00:11:18

I doubt it! They only make up 12.6% of the population. It appears their numbers are larger because of the primaries! The “Reagan Democrats” are still the base of the party. And Obama is getting them. One comment on the young people’s vote, they are reliably unreliable.

Comment by Northwest rain | 2008-08-19 01:59:42

Somewhere I read that this is the very last year that Blacks can have such a powerful voice in the election. The Black minority status will very soon be diluted by the Latino vote and the Asian vote and probably a few more “of color” minorities.

There is a lot of xenophobia in the Black community against the Latinos — I’ve seen this in Miami. The Blacks who have a long family history in the US being pushed aside by the huge Latino population, especially the Cubans. My friends are Black and I’ve heard racist remarks from them regarding the Cubans and other Latinos in the Miami area.

The democrat think tank that put together the formula for the 08 primary season didn’t count on the “other” minority — women.

This is the problem when Dean and Pelosi and Donna hatched this plan — the plan was to play the groups off against each other and get “their ” guy Soetoro elected — and once and for all to get rid of the Clintons. I guess they also liked the money that comes with Chicago style DIRTY politics?????????

There has to be a motive — and that motive is in part MONEY — with money comes POWER. Nothing else counts.

Dear Friends:

We have all been concerned lately with the rise of conservatism in this country, especially as it relates to women. You’ve read the alarming news about the Justice Department’s request for hospitals to turn over the private medical records of dozens of patients. This cynical ploy is designed to intimidate a group of physicians and force them to drop their lawsuit seeking to have the so-called partial birth abortion ban ruled unconstitutional.

The fact remains, with no provision to protect the health of the mother, this ban on a legitimate medical procedure is clearly unconstitutional and must be overturned. Attorney General Ashcroft and president bush believe so zealously in their cause that the privacy rights of patients are under assault. They believe we have no federal right to privacy when it concerns our medical histories.

On March 16th, we have a chance to nominate a candidate who will be tireless in the fight to protect women. It isn’t simply about the right to choose, or privacy rights. It is about pay equity, about ending domestic violence, promoting health care around the world, and letting doctors decide treatment options, not federal judges.

It goes without saying that we must win back the U.S. Senate and hold our ground as a check against the right-wing executive branch. Illinois will be a key battleground and your vote is critical.

My husband has stood up for women time and again, and I am proud of his record. He understands that casting a vote on the floor of the Senate takes greater courage than issuing a position paper. Oftentimes, a well intentioned law is in fact a flawed law. That’s why it is critical we nominate someone who has faced these tough choices. That’s why nominating an experienced legislator is so important in this race. It takes courage to cast a vote.

Who among the Democrats running has a proven record? Who among the candidates running for the Senate in Illinois has stood up to the right wing politicians and voted against their agenda? Who can we count on to keep the Bush/Ashcroft team from appointing the Supreme Court Justice that will vote against Roe v. Wade?

Please join me in sending a message of unity and strength by attending the Women for Obama Luncheon on February 23rd at the Hyatt Regency. Lunch costs $150 and includes remarks from our friends the Reverend Willie Barrow and Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky. To reserve your seat please call the campaign office headquarters at 312-427-6400 or log on to the Obama for Illinois Website.

I urge you to stand with me and support my husband at this event. You know the stakes have never been higher and we can’t depend on untested amateurs and administrators in this fight. Barack is a fighter and he will be a champion we can be proud of.

Thanks you so much for all of your support.

I hope the McCain campaign puts this insight into the character of Obama upfront and center stage. I watched the youtube video of the RN who failed to sway Obama with her sad account of cradling the dying infant who survived a late trimester, live abortion. Conscience and humanity come into play in this issue, not nuanced, politically-expedient maneuvering.

This is really hitting home for me, I don’t know what to say…I know that Obama is an unqualified lier, but I didn’t know that he was so lacking in compassion as well. A few years ago when I worked as a NICU RN, I remember we would take turns cradling dying babies, some were preemies as young as 24-25 weeks gestational age, because we did not want them to die alone. I know what it’s like to see and feel the struggling, last breaths of a dying infant, it’s something that will remain with me forever. BTW, there is a big difference between a living baby born of a botched, live-birth abortion, and a fetus inside a woman’s uterus. The baby, once born, is no longer considered a part of the mother so denying the baby life-saving measures is tantamount to infanticide.

I officially hate this man!

Sociopaths, I think by definition, have no compassion. The term “Live Birth” was defined by WHO in 1950. Infanticide is not legal in any state..WTF was Obama thinking? Thinking?? I answered my own question.

This issue should be a total game changer. McCain will easily get Hillary’s Catholic vote and much more with it. The SDs can change their minds based on this issue alone – how can they choose a nominee whose record supported infanticide? Are we to believe that the AA community would not be appalled by Obama’s votes and refuse to vote for Hillary, once informed of all this?

no, there will be no Hillary rising at the convention.

a viral form of domestic intimidation(terrorism?) is at work here.

there can be no compassion in the sociopathic mind. great fakery at the appearance of such, but the reality is that there can be no room for truth where deceit reigns.

if this group of corrupt thugs think it’s ok to abide and support infanticide, watch out for what awaits down the line.

This should end it for the Trolls:

Russell Berman reports in the New York Sun that the Barack Obama campaign has acknowledged that Obama himself lied about the bill he torpedoed in 2003 that would have required medical providers to give normal medical attention to infants born alive during an abortion. The admission comes with a new spin, as the campaign finally admits that the bill Obama defeated in committee was all but identical to the federal law that passed the Senate unanimously in 2002:

Indeed, Mr. Obama appeared to misstate his position in the CBN interview on Saturday when he said the federal version he supported “was not the bill that was presented at the state level.”

His campaign yesterday acknowledged that he had voted against an identical bill in the state Senate, and a spokesman, Hari Sevugan, said the senator and other lawmakers had concerns that even as worded, the legislation could have undermined existing Illinois abortion law. Those concerns did not exist for the federal bill, because there is no federal abortion law.

In 2005, the campaign noted, a “Born Alive” bill passed the Illinois Legislature after another clause had been added that explicitly stated that the legislation would have no effect on existing state abortion laws.

In this version, Obama finally acknowledges that the bill he shot down as committee chair had the neutrality clause, but now he voted against it because it would have had some deleterious effect on abortion law. As the NRLC points out to Berman, that’s flat-out untrue. The neutrality clause Obama now acknowledge existed in the law explicitly stated that the law had no intent on affecting abortions in which the fetus did not survive; that was the entire point of the neutrality clause. Even without it, in the language of the original bill, the law clearlt stated that it only applied to infants born alive.

So Obama lied, and in typical fashion for liars, lashed out at the people who exposed the lie before finally acknowledging it. He told David Brody in his CBN interview taped Saturday that he found it “offensive” that people pushed him on this issue, and 24 hours later the campaign folded on the point.

The problem of Barack Obama’s relationship with Bill Ayers will not go away. Ayers and his wife, Bernardine Dohrn were terrorists for the notorious Weather Underground during the turbulent 1960s, turning fugitive when a bomb — designed to kill army officers in New Jersey — accidentally exploded in a New York townhouse. Prior to that, Ayers and his cohorts succeeded in bombing the Pentagon. Ayers and Dohrn remain unrepentant for their terrorist past. Ayers was pictured in a 2001 article for Chicago magazine, stomping on an American flag, and told the New York Times just before 9/11 that the notion of the United States as a just and fair and decent place “makes me want to puke.” Although Obama actually launched his political career at an event at Ayers’s and Dohrn’s home, Obama has dismissed Ayers as just “a guy who lives in my neighborhood,” and “not somebody who I exchange ideas from on a regular basis.” For his part, Ayers refuses to discuss his relationship with Obama.

Comment by Steve1 | 2008-08-19 07:58:21

caliigirl Well not only that? But Mr. Bill Ayers is also stated in his book, that he and his male friends participated in gay sex. Did he find a kindred soul mate with Mr. Soetoro-Obama. Yes, I believe character counts, that we have every right to know this info. It seems to make Mr. Larry Sinclair’s allegations a little more credible. It appears Mr. Soetoro-Obama also has an association in his background with ties with bisexuality. I don’t think our country, at this point of time needs a potential president with behavior which will distract our country from the the serious issues which confront our country. Think of the problems which could errupt!

Barry in one of his books said that Frank Marshall Davis was one of his mentors when he was in Hawaii. Davis was a known homosexual. Davis also had an intimate friend in Chicago (also homosexual) both men were Communists as well. This close friend was Richard WRIGHT. What is unclear is if Barry and Richard ever became acquainted when Barry reached Chicago. Or if Richard and Jeramiah were related.

thanks for bringing this issue back to the fore.

obam and ayers have been in bed together for a very long time.

ayers got off scott free for his crime against the country because of his rich and powerful father. ayers and his dad financed and helped raise obama up from nothing. what ever other forms of chicanery going on as well will never be breached. use your imagination….

i secretly think ayers was/is a “shadow” government plant.a longterm op acting out on the far left. back in the day we would have called him for a “narc” type.

it’s the old “both ends against the middle” and then arrange the outcome that is desired. quite the tactic, and it is used often with much chicanery.

just another of my tin hat thought forms. nothing surprises me anymore about the obamacan messiah push.

enjoy. tin hats all around!

The Endless Secrecy Around Barack Obama

Just to review, the public cannot get access to paperwork related grants distributed by then-state-legislator Obama (records from 1997 to 2000 aren’t available); his state legislative office records (which he says may have been thrown out); he refuses to release a specific list of law clients, instead giving a list of all of his firm’s clients, numbering several hundred each year; he won’t release his application to the state bar (where critics wonder if he lied in responding to questions about parking tickets and past drug use); he’s never released any legal or billing records to verify that he only did a few hours of work for a nonprofit tied to convicted donor Rezko; and he’s never released any medical records, just a one-page letter from his doctor.

Now the University of Illinois at Chicago is denying Stanley Kurtz access to documents relating to the Chicago Annenberg Challenge, a small foundation, founded and inspired by Bill Ayers, for which Obama served as board chairman.

What the hell? Really, what possible reason is there to seal documents like this, beyond saving Obama some embarrassment? And is any fool out there still claiming that they’re voting for Obama because the Bush Administration has been too secretive?

pro-choicers hear me out and answer me this

i dont believe in abortion, but i voted for Hillary anyway. my mother was physically abused when pregnant for my brother. his name was Peter, she had a whole room ready for him in green. my father threw her down the stairs and beat her so bad that the baby died. this was before i was born and i know she has never fully gotten over this.

according to your beliefs he was not my brother, he was not a person, and he did not deserve the right to live.

you all seem like such nice people, so why isnt it a no brainer to help the helpless? what makes you stop caring for them? i wonder this all of the time, how some people dont care.

Comment by WMCB | 2008-08-19 08:30:30

I am so sorry about your mom. Any baby that is wanted is a tragedy to lose.

But think of it this way for just a moment. The crux of the matter is that a woman should have the choice of whether her own body is used for the benefit of another. What if a child had some illness, and the only way to save it was for the father to be hooked up via machine to that child for 9 months. Now, most men would, just as most women choose to have their babies. But do you or I have the right to FORCE the man by law to do it – regardless of whether he wanted to? To make it a CRIME if he, for whatever reason, decided he couldn’t handle it?

If a child needs a blood transfusion, or a kidney, or bone marrow, and the father is a match, do we make a law saying he MUST give a kidney, or it’s a CRIME? Do we make it illegal for the father to choose not to do it? Do we strap him down and harvest a kidney against his will?

Again, most people would do it. But it comes down to “Are you going to make it a crime to refuse the use of YOUR OWN BODY as the means of sustaining another?” All women who carry a baby to term have made a great sacrifice for the sake of that child, and it’s a beautiful thing. It’s a beautiful thing when a father donates a kidney for his child. But the question is, should it be LAW that he or she MUST.

Senator Obama Owes Voters an Apology for Misleading Statements on Life, Says FRC Action

WASHINGTON, Aug 18, 2008 /PRNewswire-USNewswire via COMTEX/ —-Family Research Council Action President Tony Perkins reacts to comments Senator Barack Obama (D-Ill.) made during the recent forum at Saddleback Church in Orange County, Calif. and an interview he gave afterwards. Obama accused the National Right to Life Committee and others of “lying” about his record on born alive infant protection legislation while he was in the Illinois State Senate.

“It was only after the forum, when Senator Obama got caught in his twisting of the truth that his campaign put out a clarifying statement that it was the Senator himself who was actually wrong on the facts. He did indeed vote against a bill in the Illinois State Senate that was identical to a federal piece of legislation that sought to protect babies who survive abortions.

“The act of killing a just-born child was considered so heinous that the federal bill, the Born Alive Infant Protection Act, was supported by pro-abortion Senator Barbara Boxer (D-Calif.) and unopposed by NARAL, the National Abortion and Reproductive Rights Action League. Senator Obama’s position in the Illinois senate was to oppose any legislation that would protect such innocent life. Everyone else was clear that the bill addressed infanticide not abortion.

“Senator Obama also stated that abortions have not declined in the last eight years. In fact Planned Parenthood’s Guttmacher Institute has shown that abortions have, in fact, declined over the last eight years. Knowing these facts should not be above the Senator’s pay grade, present or future.”

The real clincher is that Obama was the Chairman of the Health and Human Services committee that included that “neutrality clause” on the later bill yet he STILL voted against it.

No Excuse for this, especially to come out and call those that proved this liars and then later admit he was the one that got it wrong. (THEY are liars but he had a misstatement…Hummmph.)

It even goes worse than this. He participated in the legislation that provided a nicer room and opportunity for parents to get a picture, handprints and footprints of their live, aborted baby but no medial treatment.

Nothing was ever done to actually give those babies something more precious…life.

Sorry but I’m not taking the Family Research Council, pro-lifers, or (given their track record) NARAL seriously on this issue. At all.

I would need to know more–more facts, not more spin.

I dislike BO as much as anyone here but what I hate more is abortion rights–MY bodily rights–being used as anyone’s political football. This sounds to me like another “partial-birth abortion”, that is, an extremely rare situation that has become magnified and sensationalized to give pro-lifers yet another wedge into abortion rights.

SORRY, not playing. The pro-lifers and their weakling Dem enablers have already led to a situation where many women in this country can’t get an abortion–a LEGAL F***ING MEDICAL PROCEDURE–where doctors are murdered for performing a LEGAL F***ING MEDICAL PROCEDURE–and where fetuses have more rights than live, breathing, women. Nope. Not playing.

Dancing

I think the issue here is not a pro-choice, pro-life issue. It’s the fact that Obama called people a liar on the born alive vote. He in fact was the one who was being dishonest and deceitful.

The majority of the babies covered under the born alive protection act will die naturally. The purpose of the act was to provide them with some level of comfort and care until they do. That’s only humane. BO voted against that measure 3 times, and each time gave a different reason. Then he called everyone else a liar, stating that it didn’t include the language included in the federal bill. But he was the chairman of the committee – an amendment was added to it – identical to the federal bill. He still voted no – 3 times, the only one to do so.

It’s not about pro choice or pro life. It’s about dying in dignity and with some consideration for the comfort of a living, breathing being.

Comment by Liz B | 2008-08-19 08:55:08

Thanks you have much more patience than I did. It is about the fact that we have laws that treat animals more humanely than we would treat these poor babies.

No thanks necessary. I try once with reason, and then I lose my patience like you. Why can’t people understand that this isn’t about the right to choose, it’s about the right to die with dignity and some level of comfort and compassion? These babies are alive, for crying out loud. It’s no longer an abortion issue.
It’s infanticide. These babies obviously are suffering, and to turn a back and allow them to die in such a cruel way is inhumane and unacceptable. It’s no longer abortion – it’s a human life!

Very good point Liz.
My spouse worked as a tech at an animal shelter. He put thousands of animals to sleep each week. What gets me thought is how the other techs thought that an animals life was somehow more precious then a human life. They took every effort to save animals that were beyound help. In their view all animals have the right to live. Unfortunatly they had no problem with late term abortions.
When my daughter was born all they could do was call and harrass my husband telling him they needed him there to take care of the animals. His daughter was critical and they could have cared less.

Very well put, pcmck, and thank you for pointing that out. The appeals to emotion, using parental love, made so far by Susan and Nancy, aren’t helpful to the argument in my view. Of course no one wants a child to suffer, even parents who are painfully forced to choose a late-term induced abortion of that child. It runs seriously close to judgment against those parents when emotional appeals to parental love are made here, and I don’t believe anyone wants to make that argument if they are pro-choice.

The better, and more relevant point, is Obama’s attempt to avoid taking a stand on the issue in the first place, and his–once again–attempting to avoid taking responsibility for his votes by accusing others of lying.

THAT is the crux of the matter here. So, I really wish Susan and Nancy would consider making that argument, instead of the one they’ve been making thus far, which is purely based on their own emotional perspectives.

Again, the parents chose to take a legal, medical path to terminate the pregnancy. No person wants to cause suffering, unless they are a sadist. The fact that the child survives the procedure is not the parent’s fault. But providing care and comfort for the end of life is something Barack Obama judged to be politically dangerous for himself, and so he once again, hedged his bets by voting against himself on the issue, and then lying about it.

It’s just more proof that Barack Obama will do anything that is politically expedient; he doesn’t have a moral core, a set of moral principles, or character. He’s an empty suit, a fraud, a moral coward. We don’t need 8 more years of that in the White House.

bmc

so true and well stated.

Do you notice now that we’re making a credible argument that can’t be refuted (because his votes and statements prove otherwise), that Obama supporters are being quiet about it?

Why was he the ONLY person in the IL Senate to vote against this bill – 3 times?

I’d love to see him one on one and ask him why he voted against giving a dying baby the right to have comfort during their last breaths.

No constitutional interpretation wordfog will be acceptable. This is a moral issue, not a f-ing political one. The right to die with dignity and compassion is a fundamental human right that should be afforded to EVERY living being, regardless of their age or the reason for their death.

Agreed, also to consider, had the same situation happened under different circumstances, say to a woman alone somewhere, and she does not call for help for the infant delivered early, she could be charged with murder, had she done the same thing O supported. There was breath taken, the child was delivered…
Think about it in reverse as well, when someone is trying to solve a crime of an infant dying, many cases of young woman delivering, and abandoning the baby, the case hinges on if and when the child took a breath.
For O to support a measure that would condone witholding what basic decency and compassion prescribe is at the very least devoid of compassion.

Touching post Nancy.
Like many I am conflicted on abortion, but as a senior:
I am PRO-LIFE for 12 year olds who are victims of incest.
I am PRO-LIFE for 18 year olds who are victims of rape.
I am PRO-LIFE for 40 year olds who may hemorrhage from a rupurted utereus.
I read the account of the nurse who held that baby months ago…I don’t think most Americans will condone those methods!

Once the fetus is OUT of the woman’s body, the issue of her right to do as she wishes with her own body (which I WHOLLY support) is moot.

If it by some fluke it survives the procedure, then it should be given humane care, fer Pete’s sake.

I know we are talking about a tiny tiny percentage of late-term, live-birth procedures, and an even tinier number that might survive, but if it’s lying there breathing and alive, it should get basic care.

Comment by pcmck | 2008-08-19 09:44:39

Amen. Since when is basic care too much to ask for a baby sruggling to live and in distress? If it will or must die, at least treat it like it was a human being, which it is – heartbeat and all.

You know, what got me was not the life saving measures. I’m a nurse and I know that it would be futile Most of the babies are not going to survive. What got me was being left alone, in a dirty utility closet. Now human being especially baby should have to die by itself. it makes you wonder about the people who run these facilities. Every human has the right to die with dignity, and to be made as comfortable and feel safe as humanly possible.

As a nurse, I am sure you are one of the many very good ones. Nursing, as you know, is more than providing medical care. It’s about providing the emotional needs and comfort of patients in all situations. The nurses who testified for this bill stated that due to lack of coverage, etc., they were left to die on weight scales etc. in a laundry room. It doesn’t happen often but like you said, it should never happen once!

Obama voted against it. Then he lied about it, and said that the voters were the ones lying. Unacceptable behavior for a man who wants to be President of our country and its people.

Nancy,
I agree with you on this issue. My first child was pre-mature by nine weeks. There is no way I could just sit by and watch her die. It is a very emotional time in a parent’s life and BO has no compassion to understand this. I am pro-choice but I have my limits. There is a certain time when it just simply becomes murder.
With so many couples wanting babies in this country alone there is no need to let a precious little baby die. There will be circumstances where this is not possible to avoid, but give the child the decency not to suffer.

I have also heard (on a totally different issue) Tha BO wants to do away with the prison system. Something about they are similar to slavery. Has anyone else heard this? I am going to surf around and see what I can find out.
If it is true I wonder what he plans to do with all of these dangerous people.
