“Breaking News”: U.S. Rep Stephanie Tubbs Jones Hospitalized [AND NOW she has died]

tubbs-jones.jpgUPDATE: Our dear compatriot Stephanie Tubbs Jones has died. Her family removed life support just a short while ago. This is truly tragic. Our condolences to her family, her staff, her constituents, her friends, and her many supporters nationwide. [Update at 12:50 p.m.: There is conflicting news. We will keep you apprised.]

_____________

Earlier: According to MSNBC, U.S. Representative Stephanie Tubbs Jones has been admitted to a Cleveland-area hospital, a spokesman said early Wednesday. No further information is known on her condition. [UPDATE: Her office now states that she suffered an aneurysm.]

Tubbs Jones was admitted to Huron Road Hospital in East Cleveland on Tuesday, said Joyce Persuade. Tubbs Jones’ family members have asked that no other information on the five-term Cleveland Democrat be made public, Persuade said.

MSNBC reported the following:

The 58-year-old Tubbs Jones became the first black woman to represent Ohio in Congress when she was elected in 1998.

Tubbs Jones is set to be a superdelegate at next week’s Democratic National Convention in Denver. One of Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton’s biggest boosters during the primaries, she threw her support to Barack Obama in June.

Tubbs Jones is expected to speak at the launch of WomenCount.org with Senator Hillary Clinton on August 26, 2008 in Denver.

Here is the announcement of this newly formed group:

Join Senator Hillary Clinton
and Rep. Stephanie Tubbs Jones

To celebrate the launch of WomenCount.org
Let’s continue the journey and make the feminist movement fresh, hip & wholly irresistible!!!

Here are the women responsible for giving the feminist movement a new look, Stacy Mason, Rosemary Camposano, and Jehmu Greene.

Despite throwing her support to Obama, we wish Representative Tubbs Jones a quick and speedy recovery.

Being reported that is a brain aneurism…..

I hear it does not look promising.. Good love her. She is such a great woman and HUGE supporter of Hillary. Thoughts and prayers are with her and her family.

Comment by Taj | 2008-08-20 12:52:24

I wholly agree with you, Stephanie is an amazing woman. Her support for Hillary really enhanced my view of her, BUT we should not be worrying about her simply because she endorsed Hillary. This is a human being, with friends and family. No matter if its Stephaanie or Ted Kennedy in serious condition, we should always hope they recover.

Stephanie Tubbs Jones has died, sources say
Posted by Plain Dealer Staff August 20, 2008 13:49PM
Categories: Breaking News

Congresswoman Stephanie Tubbs Jones and her son Mervyn Jones II, of Cleveland, at the Karamu House Hall of Fame Induction, June 28.U.S. Rep. Stephanie Tubbs Jones, the first African-American woman to represent Ohio in Congress, has died after suffering a brain aneurysm, said sources familiar with the situation.
She was removed from life support at 12:19 p.m. at Huron Road Hospital, the sources said.

Tubbs Jones, 58, served as a Cuyahoga County judge and prosecutor before succeeding U.S. Rep. Louis Stokes. She has served five terms in Congress and was expected to easily win her sixth in November.

The mood of supporters around noon was somber. Cleveland Councilman Roosevelt Coats was seen sobbing outside the hospital. He said that Tubbs Jones was unconscious and that her friends and relatives were preparing for the worst.

We love you Stephanie. God is proud of you! You will be missed.

But true to form, the mainstream media’s love affair with Obongo continues unabated! It’s a total double-standard more so than I’ve ever seen.

I mean here we have not just three murders - but execution “shot to the back of the head” style murders of 3 Black Gays - and a private investigator connected to the Chicago Police Department stating publicly: [quote] “Donald Young was silenced because of something he knew about Obama. Donald was in a position where he heard a lot of things and saw a lot of things concerning Barack.”

I mean just the reporting of these 3 Murders alone ( w/ Obama’s close association to it ) would have been enought to finish him off months ago - but again - MEDIA BLACKOUT - incredible but par for the course. Had this been David Duke or Pat Buchanan it would’ve be on every channel. Things sure stink in the MSM. Eat it up lemmings!

I met Ms. Jones personally when she was campaigning on Hillary’s behalf during the primary. I spent a good half hour with her. After I left her I was reminded of something my mother and grandmother frequently brought to my attention. That is, “You are judged by the company you keep.”

To me, the fact that Ms. Jones was a friend of Hillary Clinton’s said a lot about Hillary Clinton. If Ms. Jones was her friend, then must be a good person too and a good friend. I admired Senator Clinton even more than I did already by virtue of her association with Ms. Jones. Godspeed. Get well soon Stephanie.

Ms. Jones is so nice, warm, down to earth, kind and generous. I wish her well.

Posted online at 12:16 by the Cleveland Plain Dealer:

CLEVELAND — U.S. Rep. Stephanie Tubbs Jones’ condition has stabilized after she suffered an aneurysm, her office said Wednesday.

“At the present time Rep. Tubbs Jones condition has stabilized and she is receiving the best care available,” Nicole Williams said.

People at the hospital had a grim outlook, however. Cleveland Councilman Roosevelt Coats sobbed and said Tubbs Jones was unconscious, and that her friends were preparing for the worst.

Tubbs Jones was driving in Cleveland Heights Tuesday evening when she suffered the aneurysm. She was rushed to Huron Road Hospital, where she is being treated.

They need to stabilize her and get her to the Cleveland Clinic.

She was near her home — I know the area — at the time of the incident.

Yeah. Here is one link to the Obama murders:

http://www.vnnforum.com/showthread.php?p=803961

“Investigator close to case believes there’s more to the brutal murders than mainstream press is letting on

By Victor Thorn

Is a Barack Obama bombshell lurking in the shadows, waiting to derail one of the biggest Cinderella stories in recent history?

While most political prognosticators in the mainstream press presume that Obama is the presumptive Democratic nominee for president, they still wonder aloud if Hillary Clinton (or some other entity) has something up their sleeve.

The bombshell may involve the murder of Donald Young, a 47-year-old choir master at former Rev. Jeremiah Wright’s Trinity United Church of Christ—the same congregation that Obama has attended for the past 20 years. Two other young black men that attended the same church—Larry Bland and Nate Spencer—were also murdered execution style with bullets to the backs of their heads—all within 40 days of each other, beginning in November 2007. All three were openly homosexual….”

Could it be that those interests that have vying

There is something down right unsavory going on, and I wish I could brush it off as meer paranoia. Heck anyone who spends too much time around obama end up in jail, disgraced, or dead. yes. to hell in a handbasket. “an inside source”,
“someone high up in the clinton campaign”– you bet. CNN and MSNBC and PBS and just about everybody else flushed the concept of journalist integrity firmly down the toilet. I especially used to love the one where a “journalist” would quote another “journalist” and refer to them
as a “political insider.” Now I just wish them all in hell. It doesn’t amuse me anymore. I hope America shrugs these parasites off and we get a free press that actually reports the news, not creates it as it wishes.

Are We About To Witness The Greatest Political Ambush Of All Time in Denver?

There are very few sure things in politics. One is that Barack Obama will change his opinion on the issues. The other is that the Clintons are nearly impossible to destroy. And so, since Barack Obama will not be the nominee until the Democrat Convention is over, and it ain’t over yet, Hillary cannot be counted out. There are reasons to think something is cooking over in Camp Clinton.

Something very peculiar just happened. I live in the West and don’t know anything about Stephanie Tubbs Jones. So I googled for information. A local newspaper article said she was found by a police officer who had been behind her car when it started moving erratically. He stopped the car and called an ambulance because she was in distress.

Then I checked wikipedia. Wikipedia referred to her in the past tense and gave a date of death as August 20, 2008. So I checked CNN to verify. CNN had nothing about her condition.

Then I tried posting here with this information and my computer locked up and I had to reboot. So I am trying again. I checked Wikipedia again and the article this time was what I would expect to see with just her birthdate and no premature information.

This is very, very peculiar. I have no way to verify this information, but this is what happened. Maybe someone has a innocent, logical explanation.

I wish Ms Tubbs Jones the very best.

Comment by RepublicanChick | 2008-08-20 12:32:04

That was my first reaction when I saw the news.It just seemed odd that yet another Hillary supporter will not be present at the convention. Then I thought I’ve just read too many conspiracy books. In any case it is tragic, one of those things that cannot be predicted or detected ahead of time. My heart goes out to her family and friends.

Comment by morganjane | 2008-08-20 15:52:02

My first reaction too… I’ve just been paying attention, I don’t read conspiracy books, just the news (when I find some, you have to search far and wide anymore) Here is something I just saw ..

Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) said late Tuesday that she will not attend the Democratic National Convention next Monday due to a sprained left ankle.
Another Hillary supporter won’t be there either.

Comment by elise | 2008-08-20 21:47:25

The first thing came to my mind after hearing Gwartney being shot was one of the crazies who are always posting threats against anyone supporting Hillary. I thought the same late last night when I heard about Ms.Tubbs Jones, but I assume now, it was just something that happened. I watched the video posted upthread and she was magnificent. I saw her many times on MSNBC (before I stopped watching all programs there) and she always had the facts on any issues and articulated them as well as anyone I heard on TV. Prayers for her family and friends. This is a huge loss for all.

It was the Diane Feinstein story yesterday and this today that caused my reaction: “Hillary supporters dropping like flies”. It was my gut reaction when I read this tragic news. I’ve been creeped out by this whole BO rise in power and treatment of Hillary Clinton (and Bill). When I told my husband about this he asked if BO could be a real-life Damien (The Omen). This from a man who doesn’t believe anything metaphysical, including gods or devils.

Anyways, all my countless hours of reading never uncovered a way to cause an aneurysm, only cardiac arrest. But who knows…I feel like we’re in the twilight zone.

Only WOIO has reported her on life support and are now saying that she will be taken off sometime today. all other media outlets are respecting the family wishes only reporting the official statement from her office that she is stable and receiving the best care possible.

they may have it right this time but WOIO is a Fox affiliate and is locally known for some pretty low handed, vile, sensationalist reporting, especially during May sweeps week.

Not an Obama baby, but honestly I know you’re passionate about Rep. Stephanie Tubb Jones, but please don’t keep calling people out. As much as I don’t trust the MSM, the only sources and only way any of us knew about her situation is through the news.

I tried to provide the links of what I found. I was hoping otherwise, but I’ve had a close friend die of this within the past year. You feel cheated, but obviously God wanted her and maybe God needed Stephanie Tubb Jones.

GOD BLESS YOU STEPHANIE

About Stephanie Tubbs-Jones:

Her website:

http://tubbsjones.house.gov/

from the bio on the Congresswoman’s website:

Congresswoman Stephanie Tubbs Jones is the first African-American woman elected to the United States House of Representatives from Ohio. Congresswoman Jones is a lifelong resident of the 11th District, which encompasses most of the East Side of Cleveland and parts of the West Side of Cleveland and includes parts of 22 suburbs.

Currently in her fifth term in office, the Congresswoman, a strong advocate for many issues, has championed wealth building and economic development, access and delivery of health care, and quality education for all. The Congresswoman chairs the Committee on Standards of Official Conduct (Ethics). Additionally, she serves on the powerful Ways and Means Committee and is an active member of numerous Congressional Caucuses, including the Congressional Black Caucus.

Congresswoman Tubbs Jones has introduced several pieces of legislation including, the Uterine Fibroids Research and Education Act to increase funding for research on uterine fibroids and provide enhanced public education about this condition; the Predatory Mortgage Lending Practices Reduction Act, which would require certification of mortgage brokers and enhance penalties for predatory loans, and the Campus Fire Prevention Act, which would provide money to equip college dorms, fraternities, and sorority houses with fire suppression devices. Most recently, Congresswoman Tubbs Jones introduced the “Count Every Vote” Act of 2005 which seeks to provide an all-encompassing solution to a broad range of voting irregularities that occurred during the 2004 presidential election. She is an original co-sponsor of multiple significant pieces of legislation, including healthcare for low and middle-income families and community reentry for ex-felons.

Congresswoman Tubbs Jones has made a number of historic achievements in her distinguished career as a public servant. Prior to her election to the House, Congresswoman Tubbs Jones served as the first African-American and the first female Cuyahoga County, Ohio Prosecutor. She was the first African-American woman to sit on the Common Pleas bench in the State of Ohio and was a Municipal Court Judge in the City of Cleveland.

Congresswoman Tubbs Jones has received numerous honors throughout her lifetime including the National Bible Association Capitol Hill Distinguished Leadership Award, Human Rights Campaign of Cleveland Equality Award, Backbone Campaign’s Backbone Award, and the Carib News Multi-National Business Conference Marcus Garvey Award.

Congresswoman Stephanie Tubbs Jones is a graduate of Cleveland Public Schools. She received her undergraduate degree from Case Western Reserve University, graduating with a degree in Social Work from the Flora Mather College in 1971. She received her Juris Doctorate form Case Western Reserve University School of Law in 1974. Additionally, she has received honorary doctorates from David N. Myers University, Notre Dame College and Central State University.

from her legislative accomplishments on her website:

on housing-

Rep. Tubbs Jones has been at the forefront of issues regarding homeownership. As former chair of the Congressional Black Caucus Housing Task Force, I hosted the CBC Housing Summit and the With Ownership Wealth (WOW) Conference in Cleveland, both of which focused on the problems surrounding foreclosures and predatory lending.

For the last three Congress’, she has introduced the Predatory Lending Practice Reduction Act and the Community Economic Development Expertise Enhancement Act (CEDA) also known as the “SEED” Act.

on voting-

On the 42nd anniversary to the day of Bloody Sunday, Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-NY) and Representative Stephanie Tubbs Jones (D-OH) today announced that they are reintroducing in both chambers of Congress comprehensive voting reform legislation that demands an electoral system that not only ensures that every voter is given the opportunity to cast a vote, but also instills in every voter the confidence that his or her vote has been counted. Senator Clinton and Representative Tubbs Jones announced the action today in a press conference joined by co-sponsors Senator Barbara Boxer (D-CA) and Representative John Lewis (D-GA) and voting rights advocates, including Ralph G. Neas, President of People For the American Way; Hilary Shelton, Director of the Washington Office of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), Barbara Arnwine, the Executive Director of the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law and Wendy Weiser, Deputy Director, the Brennan Center for Justice.

“Voting is the most precious right of every U.S. citizen, and we have a moral obligation to ensure the integrity of our elections. We cannot rest until we have done everything we can to make sure that voters have confidence in our voting system and exercise their right to vote. We must be able to easily and accurately count every vote so that every vote counts,” said Senator Clinton.

“I am pleased to once again join with Senator Clinton in introducing companion legislation in the House as we continue our efforts to ensure that every American is afforded their Constitutional right to vote,” said Representative Tubbs Jones. “Considering the tremendous election discrepancies that we have seen take place in this country, including this past mid-term election, we know that we are still dealing with a flawed system. The passage of this legislation is paramount to ensuring that people throughout this country are not disenfranchised when they attempt to exercise their right to vote.”

“It was exactly 42 years ago today that Hosea Williams and I led a march of 600 peaceful protestors across the Edmund Pettus Bridge in Selma, Alabama. Many of them gave a little blood on that bridge for the cause of voting rights in America. It is because of those brave individuals that I and so many others hold seats in Congress today. We have come a great distance, but we still live in an America where some votes are nullified, discounted, and disregarded, and where some communities are systematically disenfranchised from full participation in the democratic process. We need this comprehensive voting reform to help continue the work that those marchers and so many others throughout our history sacrificed to build—a more free, more fair democratic society,” said Representative Lewis.

The Count Every Vote Act will provide a voter verified paper record for every vote cast in electronic voting machines and ensures access to voter verification for all citizens, including language minority voters, illiterate voters and voters with disabilities. The bill mandates that this ballot be the official ballot for purposes of a recount. The bill sets a uniform standard for provisional ballots so that every qualified voter will know their votes are treated equally, and requires the Federal Election Assistance Commission to issue standards that ensure uniform access to voting machines and trained election personnel in every community. The bill also improves security measures for electronic voting machines…….

on health care-

“This legislation will establish an American national health insurance program. The bill would create a publicly financed, privately delivered health care system that uses the already existing Medicare program by expanding and improving it to all U.S. residents, and all residents living in U.S. territories. The goal of the legislation is to ensure that all Americans will have access, guaranteed by law, to the highest quality and most cost effective health care services regardless of their employment, income, or health care status.

“It is for this reason that I am in support of this legislation and I encourage you to continue to send the message to Congress of the urgent need to pass ‘The Expanded & Improved Medicare for All’ Act.”

on the military-

During this past Congress, Rep. Tubbs Jones joined with herDemocratic colleagues as an original co-sponsor of H.R. 2131, the New GI Bill of Rights for the 21st Century. In 1944, Congress enacted the original GI Bill of Rights, to honor the Greatest Generation, who ultimately won World War II. In doing so, the federal government supported our returning troops with educational benefits, loans to buy a home, and medical assistance. In each major military conflict since, we have honored the service of those who wore the uniform through a new GI bill. The new GI Bill of Rights for the 21st Century will provide better education, health care and job training benefits for those serving in the military.

In addition to the New GI Bill, she co-sponsored 21 pieces of legislation in support of veterans including H.R. 2131, to improve benefits for members of the Armed Forces and Veterans and for their dependents and survivors and H.R. 2074, to improve transition assistance provided to members of the Armed Forces being discharged, released from active duty, or retired. It is my hope that we will be able to pass this legislation during the next Congress.

This is terrible news. She is one of my heroes, a true progressive that I would have voted for in a heartbeat for any office.

Here is a link to a video on Hillary’s Senate website taken on the day that Tubbs Jones and Hillary both reintroduced the election reform bill (Tubbs Jones starts to speak at about 5:25):

http://clinton.senate.gov/news/statements/details.cfm?id=270254

Despite widespread reports of irregularities in the Ohio 2004 election, Kerry chose not to contest the vote in any way. Tubbs Jones disagreed with his decision and she courageously led a small group of Democratic representatives to protest the vote certification by the House.

“How can we possibly tell millions of Americans who registered to vote, who came to the polls in record numbers, particularly our young people … to simply get over it and move on?” Tubbs Jones said at a press conference with Boxer.

Stephanie Tubbs Jones

Heaven just got the most beautiful angel. That lady could smile even when in the midst of disappointment. I met her on May 31st, in the park shortly after giving her inspirational speech where she moved us and gave us strength to believe the DNC would do the right thing and count the votes.

I later saw her sitting down after the decision had come and she was there re-grouping with others and she looked up and she gave me a smile. If you recall most of us were still teary eyed, but Stephanie gave us comfort amidst the storm. She could give you inspiration and love with that smile. She truly radiated beauty and love.

She is an American Heroin for standing up for Democracy, for suffering in silence, for giving us the courage to stand up too and always giving us her smile and love.

We will miss you but we will not forget you, because we are better for having known you and what you did for this country that you served and so loved.

Comment by Grail Guardian | 2008-08-20 13:51:00

There are no words for what has happened. America has lost a champion of human rights, Ohio has lost a superb representative, Hillary Clinton has lost a stalwart defender and compatriot, the Democratic party has lost one of it’s last untainted leaders, and we have all lost a friend.

And conspiracy theories aside, Barack Obama and each and every one of his supporters must bear the burden of responsibility for her death. The unconscionable pressure that has been placed upon this woman by these inhumane thugs would be enough to kill any of us. I am amazed more have not fallen. Congresswoman Tubbs-Jones stood up to it until the bitter end, and she has my undying appreciation and respect for doing so in the name of truth, right, and all that is good. She died in true service to her country, in the line of duty in my opinion.

This must be stopped, and stopped quickly so that no more succumb to the pressure, threats, and hate these vile people spew forth constantly. We owe it to the honorable Stephanie Tubbs-Jones to defeat Barack Obama and his forces of evil in her name.

OK, maybe I AM a conspiracy theorist. Maybe I AM over reacting to things, maybe I AM looking for connections that aren’t there, but this is getting really, really beyond the realm of coincidence here.
I’m not outright accusing obama of murdering his detractors or opposition, BUT, it seems many people have died in the past few weeks under bizarre circumstances.
Take a look back. Stephanie Tubbs Jones, Clinton Supporter, aneurysm. Bernie Mac, Vulgar Jokes at Obama speech, thrown under bush, complications of pneumonia. George Carlin, political humorist, heart failure. Tim Russert, heart attack. Donald Young, supposed gay lover of Obama, assasinated Christmas Day. Numerous death threats over the internet by Obama supporters to anyone who opposes him.
I can’t just pretend that there’s not more than a spark in the back of my mind. There have been many high-profile deaths and probably many more low-profile deaths recently than can be considered as “random”.
No, I’m not saying Obama or his campaign is killing people, but I am saying that this is something that should be investigated with full autopsies looking for anything that could have triggered the cases of death listed. (other than the assasination, that’s pretty cut and dry, he was shot). I don’t normally get this paranoid and I don’t jump to conclusions like this quickly. Bernie Mac’s was the first to strike me as very odd after having just caused controversy for “the one”. Jones is/was a devoted Clinton supporter. Maybe Russert was onto something that nobody wanted to have leaked? I don’t know, but if I don’t put the idea out there, then I’m as guilty as anyone who may have knowledge of a actual agenda and doesn’t speak up.
Is this random or is there more to it?

And yes, I do think he and is campaign are low enough to do something like this. Not saying they did, but I do believe them to be capable of it. Those who have silenced themselves in fear, may have very legitimate reaons for doing so.

You’re not the only one who is a suspicious of these coincidences. I also know other people who have noticed a pattern. I’m noticing it too. Very odd. These deaths and afflictions are so sudden and huge surprises for the most part. I’m going to keep watching this ball role before thinking that an Obama affiliation could cost you your life…. literally.

Russert was in the tank for 0bama. He was overweight and on heart medication. He worked like a dog, long hours especially this Primary Season. He utterly despised Hillary and practically blew a gasket on the air during one of the debates, his eyes bulging.

Bernie Mac had sarcodosis, a lung disease, he had been quite ill a few years ago. I don’t know what George Carlin has to do with this and besides, he had heart trouble and wasn’t exactly a youngster.

Now the murder of Donald Young and the other gay men from Trinity deserve to be investigated.

With regard to Stephanie Tubbs Jones, I’ll say that as an AA elected official I know this election was probably very stressful for her considering how crazy AAs are acting over 0bama. I’m sure she was under a great deal of pressure and given what happened to Tavis Smiley, who’s not even a politician and never made a claim to support any candidate, well you can imagine what Tubbs might have been going through. Also, high blood pressure is common among AAs.

Now this is not to say that foul play should be ruled out. After this Primary and the people 0bama is mixed up with, the thug-like tactics, the cheating, lies, well let’s just say, I wouldn’t be shocked if there was a conspiracy under foot and people were playing some serious hardball behind the scenes.

But until proven, I tend to believe that Tubbs succumbed to the stress of the last 6 months.

HOLY SHIT…now they are saying she isn’t DEAD, but in CRITICAL CONDITION. WTF???????

The CLEVELAND PLAIN DEALER apparently dealt a premature story–and they’ve retracted it for now.

From WAPO

Rep. Tubbs Jones In Critical Condition
UPDATE 2:40 PM: The Cleveland Plain-Dealer, which had also reported that Tubbs Jones had died, now says she is in critical condition and that “reports shortly after noon had reported her death, but those were denied at a 2:30 p.m. news conference.” The Associated Press reported minutes ago that Tubbs Jones had died, according to a Democratic official, and then retracted that report. Capitol Briefing sincerely apologizes for the confusion and will continue to update.

There will be a prayer vigil for Tubbs Jones at 5 p.m. EST in the Cannon Caucus Room on Capitol Hill, according to her office.

ORIGINAL POST: Rep. Stephanie Tubbs Jones, a key figure in Ohio Democratic politics and the chairwoman of the House ethics committee, died today at a Cleveland hospital after suffering an apparent ruptured aneurysm while driving Tuesday night, according to a Democratic source. She was 58.

Tubbs Jones was found by police unconscious at the wheel of her car Tuesday night, after officers noticed her vehicle swerving erratically. She was taken to Huron Hospital in East Cleveland, where she reportedly never regained consciousness. Her office released a statement earlier today saying that she had an aneurysm, or dilated blood vessel, apparently in her brain. Dr. Michael Lim, an assistant professor of neurosurgery, at The Johns Hopkins University Hospital, said the injury was most likely a “ruptured aneurysm,” meaning the blood vessel burst.

Tubbs Jones has represented parts of Cleveland and its suburbs since 1998. A former prosecutor and judge, she has chaired the Committee on Standards of Official Conduct since the start of the 110th Congress.

Tubbs Jones is the first black woman to represent Ohio in Congress. She was a strong supporter of Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (N.Y.) during the Democratic presidential primary but later switched to back Sen. Barack Obama (Ill.). Like her fellow Democratic members of Congress, she is scheduled to be a superdelegate at the Democratic National Convention in Denver.

Tubbs Jones in critical condition at Huron Hospital

Categories: Top Story
U.S. Rep. Stephanie Tubbs Jones, the first African-American woman to represent Ohio in Congress, is in critical condition after suffering an aneurysm last night, officials said this afternoon.

Officials updated her condition this afternoon after conflicting reports that the congresswoman was dead. Numerous media outlets - including The Plain Dealer on its Web site cleveland.com, CNN and the Associated Press - reported that Tubbs Jones had died.

Tubbs Jones, 58, served as a Cuyahoga County judge and prosecutor before succeeding U.S. Rep. Louis Stokes. She has served five terms in Congress and is expected to easily win her sixth in November.

A doctor and family members said she has limited brain function.

Meet Ben Pershing |
Confusion Over Tubbs Jones’s Condition
An already sad story on the serious medical condition of Rep. Stephanie Tubbs Jones (D-Ohio) was made embarrassingly worse today by Capitol Briefing and other news outlets, as conflicting information prompted several erroneous reports that the lawmaker had died. As of this writing, she remains in critical condition in a Cleveland hospital.

Tubbs Jones was found Tuesday night unconscious at the wheel of her car after police had seen it swerving erratically on a Cleveland road. She was taken to Huron Hospital in East Cleveland for treatment. At noon today, Tubbs Jones’s office announced that she was in “stable condition” and that she had “suffered an aneurysm,” which, according to medical experts, likely means that a blood vessel in her brain burst.

Based on information from a reliable Democratic source and stories from other news outlets, Capitol Briefing reported at 2:10 p.m. that Tubbs Jones had died. The Cleveland Plain-Dealer, the Associated Press, and CNN came out with similar reports at the same time, all based on anonymous sources. At that point, neither Tubbs Jones’s office nor the hospital had confirmed her death.

But then a doctor at the hospital said Tubbs Jones was alive but in critical condition. According to AP: “Dr. Gus Kious says the 58-year-old Tubbs Jones suffered a brain hemorrhage in an inaccessible part of her brain and that a team of doctors who evaluated her determined she has limited brain function.” The Plain-Dealer revised its report. AP moved the following, unfortunately-worded update: “Kill the APNewsAlert saying U.S. Rep. Stephanie Tubbs Jones has died. A doctor says she is in critical condition.”

It is not clear why Capitol Briefing’s source and those cited by other news organizations believed she had died, though it may be related to confusion over a report in the Plain-Dealer saying she had been taken off life-support. Capitol Briefing apologizes for the error and will be more careful as he continues to report this story.

Condolences can be offered and should be offered for any life, regardless of politics or agreement with ideas. She is/was a human being and deserving of dignity regardless of who she supported or didn’t support.
IF she has passed, then may she rest in peace and her family be comforted. IF she hasn’t, I pray that God’s will be done and if he wishes her to be healed that he heal her and help her recover from the tragedy and that he helps comfort and support her family through the process.
I honor and admire the lady and all the wonderful things she has done for her country.

I do have reservations about what part obama’s campaign may or may not have played in her condition and/or death. If he played a part, may he be tracked down like the dog he is, shown to the world as a lying murderer and humiliated out of the public eye once and for all. If he did not, may he be exposed of his other lies and crimes and humiliated out of the public eye once and for all. Either way and regardless of the passing of a courageous and dedicated public servant, may obama be exposed for who/what he is.

Prayers and comfort to her and her family.

US Rep. Tubbs Jones of Ohio dies after hemorrhage
Wednesday, August 20, 2008 7:04 PM EDT
The Associated Press
By M.R. KROPKO Associated Press Writer

EAST CLEVELAND, Ohio (AP) — A Cleveland Clinic official says Democratic U.S. Rep. Stephanie Tubbs Jones of Ohio has died.

Clinic spokeswoman Eileen Sheil says Tubbs Jones died at 6:12 p.m. Wednesday after suffering a brain hemorrhage caused by an aneurysm that burst and left her with limited brain function.

The 58-year-old Tubbs Jones was the first black woman to represent Ohio in Congress and a strong critic of the Iraq war. She suffered the hemorrhage while driving her car in her east side district Tuesday evening.

THIS IS A BREAKING NEWS UPDATE. Check back soon for further information. AP’s earlier story is below.

EAST CLEVELAND, Ohio (AP) — Democratic U.S. Rep. Stephanie Tubbs Jones, the first black woman to represent Ohio in Congress, had a brain hemorrhage and was in critical condition with limited brain function, a doctor said Wednesday.

Tubbs Jones, 58, suffered the hemorrhage while driving her car in Cleveland Heights on Tuesday, said Dr. Gus Kious, president of Huron Hospital in East Cleveland. The congresswoman had been driving erratically and her vehicle crossed lanes of traffic before coming to a stop, police said.

Tubbs Jones “collapsed when she suffered a very serious brain hemorrhage caused by an aneurysm that burst in an inaccessible part of her brain,” Kious said during a news conference. A team of doctors who evaluated her determined she has limited brain function.

A brain aneurysm is a bulge in an artery in the brain. It can leak or rupture, causing bleeding in the brain.

Family friend Joe Hewitt asked people to pray for the congresswoman. Family members including Tubbs Jones’ son, Mervyn Jones II, attended the news conference but left without commenting.

East Cleveland Mayor Eric Brewer, a longtime friend of Tubbs Jones, said it wouldn’t be appropriate to consider the political vacuum in Ohio if she cannot serve.

“As far as we’re concerned, she’s still here until further notice and until the Lord says it’s her time to go,” Brewer said at the hospital following the news conference. “Right now, She’s our congresswoman.”

Tubbs Jones, elected in 1998, was one of Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton’s biggest boosters during the primaries and is to be a superdelegate at next week’s Democratic National Convention in Denver.

Obama wiped out Stephanie (Ohio) and Bill Gwatney at State Democratic Party Headquarters.

I do not believe she died mysteriusly one week before the convention; someone did something to induce her pressure. Just like Bill died two weeks ago in a obamanut shooting in Arkansas. The story was squashed and no one knew the man who killed him was a Obama clut supporter.

These were two strong Hillary Delegates ready to fight in Denver.

God keep her and her family. I hope the secret service is on the job. Hillary and Bill will be in Obamanut territory.

Come on, there’s no need for that. She supported Hillary as long as she sincerely believed that was the best thing to do. She switched when she thought it was time to switch, and she did it without animosity. Whether her judgement was right or wrong, I’m sure it was sincere.

She was a good lady, a good democrat, and she’ll be missed by people on both sides of the issue.

But she didn’t switch. She remained a Hillary delegate and supporter. She blew the whistle on AA delegates being threatened for their support of Hillary.

Thoughts and prayers to the family and I admired her for holding true to her beliefs. One remarkable woman. She will be missed.

Too many coincidences. The wind has been knocked out of me.She was one in a million truly.

She was a warrior and an unrelenting Hillary supporter. May God keep her. She reminded me so much of my AA mother in likeness and in courage. I was glad when she exposed the threats AA supporters of Hillary were receiving. The one sure way for evil to succeed is for good people to remain silent. Goodbye Stephanie, we will truly miss you.

How disgusting that some of the Obama supporters would play there games on an article related to the death of a very honorable woman. My heart breaks with this news. She was a good congresswoman, an avid Hillary supporter, whether you agreed with her or not she remained cordial and would bring a smile to your face. I can’t believe she’s gone, she made the world a brighter place.

As a former resident of Cleveland and republican, I would just like to say my sincere condolences to her friends and family. I might not have agreed with her, but my heart goes out to all that knew her in your hour of loss. It does bring to mind a piece of a famous speech where it is stated “We are all mortal.” Nothing else hits home like a sudden loss. Her family is in my thoughts.

Whether or not it was meant to be tongue-in-cheek, the following quote from this piece is despicable and should be redacted with an apology immediately.

Despite throwing her support to Obama, we wish Representative Tubbs Jones a quick and speedy recovery.

Statement of Former President William J. Clinton, Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton, and Chelsea Clinton on the Passing of Chairwoman Stephanie Tubbs Jones

There are few words to express the shock we feel at this time. Our deepest condolences are with Stephanie’s son, Mervyn, her family, and her many loved ones, friends, and supporters.

Stephanie’s friendship meant the world to us, a friendship that deepened through every trial and challenge. We could always count on her to be a shoulder on which to lean, an ear to bend, a voice to reassure. Over the course of many years, with many ups and many downs, Stephanie was right by our side-unwavering, indefatigable.

It was that fighting spirit-safely stowed behind her disarming smile, backed by so much integrity and fiery intelligence-that allowed Stephanie to rise from modest beginnings, to succeed in public service, to become a one-woman force for progress in our country.

All of us who were lucky to know her and love her can only hope now to live like her-to be as passionate, loyal, hard charging, and joyful in life’s pursuits.

Stephanie was one of a kind. We will miss our friend always.

Did Obama kill her? Why not blame him for this too?
Man, you folks are something … talk about a sense of entitlement.

Michelle Obama should be ashamed.

“GLORK” Michelle Obama should be ashamed of her separatist-racist connection to Farrakhan and Chicago’s Trinity United Church trumpeting Barack Obama AKA Barack Hussein Obama as the second coming of the messiah. Beneath that Darth-Vader-Mace-Windu-Jedi-Me ssiah Helmet Hairdo of Michelle Obama lurks a Wildabeast. If Michelle Obama new what her husband — the Hope-A-Dope, Fonster Monster — Barack Obama AKA Barack Hussein Obama did in Harlem, she would wash her wide-open, Hus-suey loving MUSILM mouth out, with twenty-four (24) mule-team double-cross X-boX-BorraX. The Lexis-Nexis-Albatross-Abacus-Complex of Barack and Michelle’s relationship with MUSLIM “PATWANG-FWEEE” Rev. Wright, Louis Farrakhan, and black demagoguery of Obama’s Stump Lines Echo Malcolm X; is about as much of a Hoax as Oxfam volunteers believe in HIV– AIDS Witch Doctors in Africa they feed.
“God damn America” - Jeremiah Wright and Barack Obama.
“God bless America” - Pope Benedict XVI and Hillary Clinton –
Michelle Obama AKA Wildabeast — failed the Illinois Bar Exam. If Barack Obama had married Shaniqua instead of the leftist-separatist-racist-beast-’ist Michelle, his jackanapes’ excitedly-fixed-elitism, Nemet-Oure-Saxas Our Father Our King — black rage, and “GLORK” black demagoguery of Obama’s Stump Lines Echo Malcolm X; would be taken a lot more expeditiously. Its expected that Obam will manage his explosive MUSLIM JIHADI — FATIMA EXTREMISM obsession bitter. He is a MUSLIM “Glork” It’s time to introduce this false, fake “GLORK” Xerox - X box Obama and invite the self-indicting thief plagiarizing pipsqueke Xerox - X box to meet the Buffalo “GAZOWNT-GAZIKKA” Police Department Buffalo Creek. He’s MAD!!!

Don’t you think it strange that the two staunchest Hillary supporters DIED just before the DNC Convention? Wow! I for one don’t believe in coincendences. Gwatney of Arkansas REFUSED to vote for Obama on floor. He adamanntly said he was voting Hillary - then is shot by a “right wing nut” hmmmmm
Even MORE astounding - when the roll call vote came - Arkansas voted for OBAMA. Stunning. That makes me wonder about Ms. Tubb. She was also a fiery, staunch supporter for Hillary. What a mess. Won’t someone look into this?
