Is This a Money Laundering Scandal?

Is the Obama Campaign falsifying its FEC disclosure reports by using a front company to disguise its relationship with ACORN, a controversial group?

By Eastan McNeal on August 20, 2008

Less than one month after admitting that it had received over $30,000 in illegal contributions from Gaza it seems the Obama for America campaign is facing yet another damaging issue related to campaign finance. This time the infraction emerges from potentially shady expenditures or expenditure reporting. It is, however, highly unlikely that the campaign can write this disclosure pattern off as a “technical glitch” or a “clerical error” as the firms involved are much more than just casually linked, and the misrepresentations occur on eleven separate documents.

acornfront3.jpg
Why is Barack Obama spending nearly $1,000,000 on a business housed here?

According to Federal Election Commission (FEC) financial disclosure reports filed by the campaign earlier this year, between February 25th and May 17th Obama paid $832,598 to Citizens Services, Inc. (CSI), one of the nearly seventy Not-for-Profit companies registered at the ACORN New Orleans headquarters on 1024 Elysian Fields Avenue [SEE IMAGE OF THE NATIONAL HEADQUARTERS of CSI as well as 20 other businesses.]. CSI now also shares an office with ACORN in Chicago at 209 W. Jackson St., home of the SEIU (Service Employees International Union).

On the surface, the 11 separate payments to CSI appear to be for services typically useful to a campaign. However, as confirmed by one of its directors, CSI does not offer the services listed on the Obama campaign expense reports. According to the director, and as found in various disclosure reports from other candidates, CSI specializes in field operations, specifically grass roots organizing for get out the vote efforts. The Obama expense reports list the following payments to CSI: $564,342 for Stage, Sound, Lighting, $138,000 for Advance Work, $18,417 for Polling and $98,451 for Travel/Lodging. There is no “get out the vote” expenditure to CSI in the reports.

After retrieving a copy of CSI’s business registration form from the Louisiana Secretary of State’s office, on July 24th one of our researchers contacted Sunday Alabi, the first Director listed on the corporate filing. Our caller asked Mr. Alabi if CSI could provide Stage, Sound and Lighting for a campaign. Mr. Alabi’s response was that those services are not the nature of CSI’s business and that our caller would need to contact ACORN. The same response was given when questioned about polling and campaign advance work. But those are the services listed by Obama on the FEC reports. Services supposedly performed by CSI.

CSI is supposedly totally independent of ACORN. However, Jeff Robinson, who reportedly heads the company, is listed in his LinkedIn public profile as the National Deputy Political Director-Campaigns and Elections at ACORN and the Political Director at Communities Voting Together which, by the way, contributed $60,000 to CSI. In May of this year he publicly endorsed the Bob Blumenfield campaign by way of his position as a Director of ACORN. Furthermore, all of CSI’s directors are in ACORN leadership. One should ask why there appears to be so much deception and misdirection surrounding a tiny storefront not-for-profit organization from New Orleans.

Do you pay a fast food restaurant to set a broken bone? That is, incredibly, how absurd these election reports are. A brief conversation with an enforcement officer at the FEC, using hypothetical names, yielded the following response.

According to the FEC, in a situation where a campaign committee reports that they paid a company for services that the company says they do not provide, there is reason to be suspicious. It was irregular. And, it was inappropriate. To wit in 1997 Congresswoman Mary Rose Oakar (OH) was prosecuted by the U.S. Justice Department for conspiracy to deceive the FEC as to the true nature of the campaign contributions and expenditures that she was required to report. Falsifying federal disclosure reports is a serious matter and it is a crime. If the FEC chooses to exercise equal enforcement then Senator Obama could very well be subject to prosecution.

As demonstrated in previous articles, here, in newspapers, magazines and on television news stations, ACORN is a critical part of the Obama field operations. So why is the campaign writing checks to CSI for this work ostensibly performed by ACORN? It is reasonable to assume that the campaign would not want to be directly affiliated with, through disclosure reports, an organization that has been prosecuted or is under investigation in twelve states for election fraud. More recently, on June 2nd, ACORN’s founder, Wade Rathke had to step down from his post after it was discovered that he covered up a one million dollar embezzlement scheme committed by his brother, Dale. Many in the press and numerous election officials do not view ACORN in a favorable light. Reporting payments to them could conceivably create a public relations problem for Obama. But laundering payments to ACORN through a front company, in a conspiracy to defraud the FEC, if that is how the above action can be explained, is a crime.

There are additional striking oddities found in these disclosures. One is the timing and the amounts paid for “advance work.” Of the 1,211 payments made by the campaign for advance work the average check, not including the two to CSI, was $558. Considering that both of the Rathke brothers were loosing their high salaried jobs at ACORN, while being asked to repay the funds embezzled, the payment of $63,000, followed three weeks later by a payment of $70,000 for “advance work”, just prior to their resignations, has the surface appearance of conversion of campaign funds for personal use. This, if such conversion is proven, also seriously violates federal statutes. Another glaring oddity is Stage, Lighting and Sound (SLS) – also a service never previously reported as a CSI offering. Obama made two payments for SLS to CSI within two days of each other. These payments were the largest checks made for “concerts” throughout the entire campaign calendar. The average SLS payment to other companies was $3,900. CSI received $310,000 followed by $160,000 two days later. Two days after that, CSI got a $98,000 check for Travel/Lodging. Two weeks after that another $74,000 was paid to CSI for SLS. Two weeks later, $18,000 for Polling was reported, followed by another $18,000 for SLS the following day. All of the above payments went to a company that admits they provide none of the above services.

There are, with little doubt and high probability, numerous federal offenses that may have been committed by the Obama campaign committee. Within their power and charge the FEC should immediately convene an administrative tribunal to investigate these questionable transactions. Indeed, a complaint to the FEC is being prepared and could be filed this week.

One can only hope that when they do throw themselves “under the bus like a ritual suicide in a cult” that Dean, Brazile, Pelosi, Kerry, Reid, and all of the DC D elite along with the so-called “pundits” join in the ritual too!

Just another reason why Dean, Brazille, Obama and the rest of the elite, effete coupists must be tossed out of the leadershp. Barack is as corrupt as you can be.

Here is a post I made about where many PUMAs’ thoughts are regarding the new polling showing we are increasingly retreating from Barack and in light of new threats by his supporters concerning Hillary Clinton’s future if we don’t get on board:

That was quite wonderful, Paul. Thanks, my sentiments exactly.

Comment by elise | 2008-08-21 03:45:04

That was wonderful Paul. I would just like to add a couple or my own thoughts here. The last time I went to TM, this was in June, she was using the argument about political payback against Hillary if we don’t fall in line. I don’t think there is any way she will lose her seat in NY and after Barry loses the election in Nov, the power in the senate will shift away from those who have hijacked the party. I feel the same about #4, but if he had any sense at all, he would ask Hillary because she is the only one who can help him. My only question is about his eligibility and what will happen when the Republicans go after him on that issue. My guess, they might try to give the nomination to Evan Bayh or Biden unless she is on the ticket. I trust her so completely, I don’t know if I could vote against her. Fox did a story on Obama on Monday and they showed the document we have seen her, his registration as Barry Soetoro. They didn’t make a big deal about it, but that may have been a shot over the bow to warn him. They also talked about his trip to Pakistan and it seems he traveled with two Pakistanis. First time I’ve heard that. i disagree with others who have said she could not be elected if a miracle happens and she is the nominee. If his supporters showed their true colors to the entire country with riots or threats of riots, I don’t think it would frighten voters. It would make the angry. The older AA base would move back to her and no one counts on college students to show up in large numbers anyway. So what if they stay home? Maybe I’m too optismistic, but not ready to give up yet.

Well, I’m sending this article around. I have to reread it a couple of times.

Meanwhile, maybe the footsteps of justice are getting closer on the Ayers-Obama connection — here’s a story from the Chicago Tribune blog. http://www.swamppolitics.com/news/politics/blog/2008/08/barack_obama_records_sealed_at.html

It seems the U. of IL cover up is getting the news that Ayers’ history didn’t. Does anyone think the Republicans (through NRO) planted the seeds of controversy so they would germinate near the convention?

Comment by asimon | 2008-08-20 20:59:27

I doubt it’s the Republicans. This is a result of millions of people angered over a stolen election. If the MSM is not going to do their job, people will. Thank God for the internet.
Speaking of MSM, I have not read one good analysis as to why this is happening.

Comment by missE | 2008-08-20 21:37:48

Katmandu, read this one on a Trib blog. Check out the readers comments they are pissed at Daley and the Trib.

Daley won’t say whether UIC should release Obama-Ayers records

Comment by elise | 2008-08-21 04:04:25

Why is Daley defending Ayers? If there is nothing damning in those papers, why would they care if they were released. In his speech in Orlando, Obama said he had released all his papers and it’s just another attempt to obscure the truth. Someone should be demanding he release all his tax records and legislative records from that time. His grade transcripts for Columbia and Harvard, plus his thesis paper which no one seems to have a copy of anymore. How could someone lose something they should be proud of and treasure?

If you read the story by Kurtz at the NRO you will see that he credits STEVE DIAMOND for his posts on his blog, which were also posted here. Steve was the first person writing about the Annenberg connection, thanks to his work it is spreading, Hannity talked about this on the radio today as well. Soon this will be a story the MSM will have to cover. I think this “born alive” bill that Obama voted against will be HUGE, it will destroy him. It’s all so ironic, Obama usually voted “present” on everything, for once he took a side on a vote, wrong side!

Comment by JML | 2008-08-21 00:50:41

I recall hearing this, too. That they cannot convene a committee because there is not a full committee to convene.

Comment by elise | 2008-08-21 04:07:58

Well, that’s just great! Why don’t they appoint a committee and convene it before it’s too late?

Comment by Grail Guardian | 2008-08-21 06:59:31

Don’t know for fact, but I would assume it’s because the Democratic Congress is responsible for approving new members. They need their vacation time. They’ll appoint someone to investigate fraud as soon as McCain is elected.

Comment by PamFlorida | 2008-08-21 09:19:41

The Dems didn’t approve FEC Committee appointments because Bush insisted on approval of the nominees as a package deal-approve all as a group or nothing. The problem was that the group of nominees included Hans von Spakovsky (interim recess appointee as Head of FEC by Bush)-a man dedicated to pursuing “rampant voter fraud”. He was involved in the firing of the US Attorneys, voter caging, purging of voter roles, restrictive voter ID laws (in Georgia, tribal areas), redistricting irregularities in Texas, and the 2000 Florida recount (on behalf of Bush). Google him-he’s as corrupt as they come.

Comment by Clinton Fan | 2008-08-21 12:12:57

Ah….there’s those shenanigans. I knew it was something.

There’s crap on both sides of the fence, here.

On the right, it’s voter suppression, on the left, it’s payoffs to agents to pad the voter rolls.

Becoming an independent is looking more and more attractive to me…

Comment by Clinton Fan | 2008-08-21 12:07:01

No, that’s not the reason at all.

The appointments–the names of commission members– have to come from BUSH, and then they are vetted by the Senate (advise and consent). If no one is nominated by the Executive Branch, no one can be approved by the Legislative Branch.

IIRC, there’s a requirement that the commission be “bipartisan” so they can’t all be from one party or the other.

There’s crap to fling on both sides of the FEC fence. I’m not clear on details or specifics, but there’s been shenanigans on McCain’s side as well–I think with regard to amounts raised, but I am not positive.

That’s likely why Bush doesn’t want to “go there.” I seem to recall that elements within the DNC were whining about McCain, public financing, and “getting around the law” in some way or another.

This ACORN shit is pretty BAD, though. This is worse than “excessive contributions” certainly. This is…er…fraud. Money laundering. Graft. Corruption.

Or, as they call it in Chicago, business as usual.

Reminds me of the old days, before computers, debit cards and Pay Pal and all that fancy, shmancy stuff, when “campaign operatives” would wander around with “envelopes” containing thousands and thousands of dollars in cash.

Amazing…!

After reading your your well documented article, and having been reading the recent writings of Proffesor Diamond and other great writers at NQ, looking back to the actions of SEIU/ACORN in Pueto Rico and the SEIU spat in Nevada, I am wondering if you have seen the manifest of the documents at UC IL. that have been deeped six’ed?

All that orginizing by ACORN in Chicago that surrounds the Public Schools and the Annenburg challenge are sitting in the dark.

Bill Ayers and connections to ACORN?
Rezko interaction with TUCC and ST Sabina funneled in to ACORN. BO would not have been elected street sweeper with out them.
The two individuals from Recreate68 have only two degrees of seperation
“Front” is saying it politely.

“Bada Bing Mailboxes Are Us” is more like it.

Can anyone tell me WHO the two “per deim” payments were made to? Two payments; the same amount = two people…and in the course of what work were these expenses inccured?

Just out of curiosity…anyone one ever collect 13k and change for being “on the road”?

This scam is a Park Avenue three card monte. That money comes full circle minus “finders fees”.

Comment by Hope Floats | 2008-08-20 23:23:37

So much money went through TUCC. Dress something up with Jesus, and no one asks any questions. The worst is the Democrats looked at this corruption, and they decided they’d like to license it instead of remove it. Their nominee Obama was selected just for this. And he was so owned by TUCC, if they (or Advocate) asked him to vote for infanticide, he’d do it three times. It hasn’t hit his followers - what kind of a human being would do such a thing? Not a lot. None in the US Senate and six in the state of Illinois. The coldest of them all was Mr. Hope Change himself.

Comment by Ai1een | 2008-08-20 23:36:24

Yes - but I’m not surprised at Obama’s vote. Look at Michelle and Barack’s charitable giving - less than 1% prior to running for President…LESS THAN 1%!!! How do you live that close to the refuse of Tony Rezko projects and give less than 1% to charity…OH WAIT - yeah that wouldn’t have been a problem for Obama - after all - he helped garner the buildings for Tony Rezko so that he could financially rape and pillage that community who desperately needed someplace to live.

Comment by Hope Floats | 2008-08-21 11:37:16

No, the Pie Eating Queen herself sent out letters asking people to give her husband $150, so he could crusade against the “right wingers” and keep killing babies - let’s stress not abortion but infanticide.

Obama’s Foreign Donors: The media averts its eyes
By Pamela Geller

I have been researching, documenting and studying thousands upon thousands of Obama’s campaign donations for the past month. Egregious abuse was immediately evident and I published the results of my ongoing investigation. Each subsequent post built a more damning case against Obama’s illegal contribution activity.

The media took little notice of what I was substantiating. I went so far as to upload the documents so that anyone could do their own research. I asked readers to download the documents and a number of folks pitched in.

Despite dropping the groundbreaking bombshell story of “Palestinian” brothers from the Rafah refugee camp in Gaza who donated $33,000 to Obama’s campaign, no big media picked up the story. Jihadis donating to Obama from Gaza? Could there be a bigger story? Foreign donations are illegal, but this story was all that and so much more. The “Palestinian” brothers were proud and vocal of their “love” for Obama. Their vocal support on behalf of “Palestinians” spoke volumes to Obama’s campaign.

And yet still no media.

But Obama pricked up his ears. He smelled trouble and while no media asked, he answered anyway. Sen. Obama’s campaign immediately scrambled and contended they had returned the $33,500 in illegal contributions from Palestinians in Hamas-controlled Gaza, despite the fact that records do not show that it was returned and the brothers said they have not received any money. Having gone through all of Obama’s refunds redesignations etc, no refund was made to Osama, Hossam, or Edwan Monir in the Rafah refugee camp. And still no media.

One of the Gazan brothers, Monir Edwan (identified here), claimed he bought “Obama for President” T-shirts off Obama’s website and then sold the T-shirts in Gaza for a profit. All purchases on the Barack Obama website are considered contributions.

The Palestinians allegedly claimed “they were American citizens”, so said Obama’s people. They listed their address — zip code 972 (ironically the area code for Israel) and they input “GA”the state abbreviation for Georgia (screen shot here) They actually lived in a Hamas controlled refugee camp. So if Obama’s people thought it was “Georgia” why did they ship the tee shirts to the correct address in Gaza? Shipping overseas to a Gaza refugee camp is vastly different than the state next door.

Still no media.

“Some young men even bought the T-shirts for 60 shekel ($17.29), which is a lot to spend in Gaza on a T-shirt, but that is how much Gazans like Obama,” Edwan claimed in a follow up article in the conservative websiet WorldNetDaily. And Hamas has publicly endorsed Obama.

And still no media.

Obama’s campaign said the Palestinian brothers in the Middle East made $33,000 in illegal donations to the campaign via the internet.

The donations came in between Sept. 20 and Dec. 6 and virtually all of the money, about $33,500, was returned by December 6. But the refunds weren’t reported to the Federal Election Commission due to a technical error, campaign officials said.

If McCain had been involved with something so dark and nefarious, taking money from Islamic jihad, his candidacy would never withstand the media blowback.

But it was the son of hope, the agent of change, the one we have been waiting for , so the media yawned.

The jihad donations were hardly the only bloody red flags. The first in my series of posts ran July 19th. The documents were so unwieldy, readers like John, Doc, and Cathy (who discovered Rafah) were working furiously to cross check our findings at the FEC site and then mine the data.

Obama’s overseas (foreign) contributors are making multiple small donations, ostensibly in their own names, over a period of a few days, some under maximum donation allowances, but others are aggregating in excess of the maximums when all added up. The countries and major cities from which contributions have been received France, Virgin Islands, Planegg, Vienna, Hague, Madrid, London, AE, IR, Geneva,Tokyo, Bangkok, Turin, Paris, Munich, Madrid, Roma, Zurich, Netherlands, Moscow, Ireland, Milan, Singapore, Bejing, Switzerland, Toronto, Vancouver, La Creche, Pak Chong, Dublin, Panama, Krabi, Berlin, Geneva, Buenos Aires, Prague, Nagoya, Budapest, Barcelona, Sweden, Taipei, Hong Kong, Rio de Janeiro, Sydney, Zurich, Ragusa, Amsterdam, Hamburg, Uganda, Mumbia, Nagoya, Tunis, Zacatecas, St, Croix, Mississauga, Laval, Nadi, Behchoko, Ragusa, DUBIA, Lima, Copenhagen, Quaama, Jeddah, Kabul, Cairo, Nassau(not the county on Long Island, lol), Luxembourg (Auchi’s stomping grounds), etc, etc, etc,

Half a million dollars had been donated from overseas by unidentified people “not employed”.

Digging deeper, all sorts of very bizarre activity jumped at us. Dr and JJ continued to break it down and pull data from various sources. We found Rebecca Kurth contributed $3,137.38 to the Obama Campaign in 112 donations, including 34 separate donations recorded in one day,

How about this gibberish donor on the 30th of April in 2008.

A donor named Hbkjb, jkbkj

City: Jkbjnj Works for: Kuman Bank (doesn’t exist)

Occupation: Balanon Jalalan Amount: $1,077.23

or the donor Doodad, The # of transactions = 1,044

The $ contributed = $10,780.00

This Doodad character works for FDGFDGF and occupation is DFGFDG

The more questions we answered the more questions we discovered.

Thousands of Obama’s foreign donations ended in cents. The “cents” did not make sense. And we compared McCain donation documentss to Obama’s. McCain’s records are nothing like Obama’s. McCain’s are so clean. No cents, all even dollar amounts. But Obama’s contained thousands of strange, odd amounts — evidence of foreign contributors, since Americans living overseas would almost uniformly be able to contribute dollars. Still no media.

Julia Gorin told me a funny story two months ago. Her husband’s co-worker wanted to see what would happen if he tried giving a contribution to the Obama campaign via a credit card. He used his Macy’s card. The system accepted it. He tried the same with McCain’s campaign, and the transaction wouldn’t go through. Now, obviously, down the line, the Obama transaction would fail as well, but it goes to the point that there is no safety system in place — it’ll just accept any and all money, which helps explain how his campaign raised so much more money than everyone else’s.

Despite the evidence of dirty campaign donations, crickets chirped in newsrooms across the country. The moment my Gaza story started to get some chatter on talk radio, the left and their supplicant handmaidens in the media sprang into action and created a McCain illegal campaign contribution “scandal”. The Washington Post published an inaccurate allegation and then retracted not a day later, at the risk of looking stupid. They are jeopardizing the little credibility that they have left.

The article goes on, but i am sure you wont read it before you start parroting the Obullshit from camp koolaid…

Yes I know…thinking for yourself is above your pay grade…

COLUMBUS — Secretary of State Jennifer Brunner (D) issued a directive Tuesday, Aug. 19, that will end the practice of allowing poll workers to take voting machines home overnight in the days leading to Election Day.

Ohio has created a window in the election calendar that would allow residents instant gratification — register one minute The move will benefit Obama, who enjoys a 2-to-1 lead over McCain among 18- to 34-year-olds, according to a Washington Post-ABC News poll released last month. If Obama’s campaign were able to tap into college campuses with one-stop voting, it would add thousands of votes to his tally .

Of Note:
The Ohio Supreme Court Thursday denied a request by Secretary of State Jennifer Brunner to seal her videotaped deposition in a case filed by the Summit County Republican Party. (not sure what this is over)

I JUST sent an email earlier to my BOSTON DEM cousin about that very thing.
Reminding him that ballots were stuffed in Gary, Etc., and why would he “hope BO wins” when he’s a cheat and grew up thinking his Cousins, Brother and Aunt were “bitter” “racist” people who “cling to their religion and guns” and gave “aids to the blacks” etc.

He told me I was being “zany” if I was hoping for BO to “crash & burn”

I asked him to PLEASEEEEEE stop drinking the KOOLAID! lol

I don’t mind being zany, and I’m glad my relatives live in Cleveland instead of Boston. I’m glad I live in Toronto instead of New York right now, too, because even here the Obama saturation is barely tolerable. The bloom is fading from that rose, though. He’s McGovern.

It will be very interesting to see how this all plays out. The question in my mind is…Is there a way for Obama to distance or disconnect himself from these “irregularities”. If so, then it would make sense for him to throw this whole crew of pirates under the bus just as soon as he possibly can.

If there is no way for him to distance himself or to leave his campaign intact by doing so, then the superdelegates, if they still are in possession of any decency or sense whatsoever, have to throw Obama under the bus and let the chips fall where they may.

If nothing happens before next Thursday, then I will sadly conclude that this country has totally gone down the tubes and these politicians just consider this “business as usual.”

At least the Obama campaign responded to the Gaza issue, so, hopefully, they will be forced to respond to these concerns also.

I watched to see what CNN would pull, and sure enough - they painted a very bad picture of McCain’s life,

And, a wonderful, beautiful, bright, intelligent wonderful wonderful wonderful Barack Obama’s life and experience.

CNN is a joke!!!!!!!!!! If you want unfair and unbalanced reporting CNN is for you.

I agree-what are all those politicans and delegates going to do or say when the dust settles. Without this post and others like it the truth would be so hard to discern about this horror of an election–well during WW II they had the underground radio free europe to get past the propaganda and that’s what this is–a place for the truth that the msm will not address but those pseudojournalists also will lose all credibility(they already have to an extent) when this is over.

Excellent. Not only did ob work for ACORN in his early days in Chicago, he still is associated with them deeply and did a switch-eroo to hide it.

The truth is out there. It all comes out in the wash.

Also, the Rezko trial sentencing was moved to a week before the election. It will be very fresh on peoples minds. Guess who isn’t going to be one of the Chicago pols with a guest of honor spot? Ob is hiding from Blago too. Funny that, after they were such close knit partners in crime all those years.

I’ve been carping about that since I first found out many, many months ago “nOOne” had a PIRG - Acorn history of involvement.

He took credit in his book due to Hazel Johnson and the original stories he told in his book have all been discredited by people who actually did organize help.

All the puzzle pieces this year are forming a rather nasty picture of a man who should be handcuffed and dragged away for many years along with his cronies.

Voting them out isn’t enough. They need to pay for their crimes. Where are the ETHICS committees and watchdog groups? Get cracking and nail this THUG.

just one teeny problem so far, you used Google street maps which is not accurate, it even has my house as the wrong number and days on the Google maps that addresses are approximate. When you look closely, and zoom in on the house, the number is clearly 1008 and not 1024. Oh and I am not a bot either, loooong time Clinton supporter. By the way, ACORN was influential in getting her elected to the Senate.

sorry you call people Obots who see things differently than you Larry, I have been a long time supporter of Senator Clinton and blogged countless hours for her and against BO since January over at Marsh and then Bitterpoliticz Google has a disclaimer when you click on Street View states, “Address is approximate” because not all addresses are accurate….but since you can identify it from overhead then the numbers by the door must be wrong.

Comment by missE | 2008-08-20 22:01:58

The Acorn office is a double shotgun, I have been in it. It was shabbier than that photo. I haven’t been there for over a year, could be a different house. All a new photo will do is show another double shotgun.

Comment by Portia Elizabeth | 2008-08-21 08:45:47

I was thinking the same thing. The house next door is the same structure. Those little houses were all over NO in the more modest neighborhoods. It makes sense that the place could have an address on one side of 1008 and on the other of 1028. At my last addy my house was 17815. My neighbors on one side were 17811 and on the other 17821. It seems pretty arbitrary how house numbers are assigned within a city block.

Comment by karen for Clinton | 2008-08-20 22:07:23

AJ, that is a knee jerk reaction I have done a few times myself. The obots are so sneaky and are always pushing misinformation so we occasionally jump the gun and react to a genuine post. We all do that, and if yours was an honest one it will be known soon enough.

I tried to zoom in and can’t see an address. My computer (or my eyes) may not be as good as yours. Where is the number exactly?

If you are right, then don’t take it personal.

I am pretty sure I called somebody an obot here earlier today because I found his/her post offensive and figured it couldn’t have been a NQ regular. If it wasn’t an obot then it was a republican most likely, but it just could have been a Hillary fan who is oddly a total jerk, as rare as that is.

As our Donna Brazile says - Stop the hate. :-)

and FALL barky FALL.

Comment by Disgusted | 2008-08-20 23:08:33

Like someone above said, that residence looks like a duplex. If that is the same as a double shotgun, sorry, I am not familiar with that term. The 2 front doors are evidence that it is a double residence. Which most likely means 2 addresses. We would need the addresses of the buldings on each side of the building in question to fully determine the exact address. Like another poster said the building in the picture is not really the point. It’s the fact that Obama is paying money for services that the company does NOT provide.

Comment by Hope Floats | 2008-08-21 12:14:48

In NYC, they call them railroad apts. The floorplan is long and narrow with one room going straight into another like the links on a railroad. But in New Orleans, they call them shotguns, because you can stand at one end of the apt and fire a shotgun through each room straight out the back door. So, you could have four different addresses at this bldg, since it’s a duplex with two units on each side.

Comment by TeakwoodKite | 2008-08-20 23:12:43

ACORN’s the grayish-green 2-story building with the white columns. Google Maps shows it at 1064 Elysian Fields Ave. Here’s a picture (scroll to the bottom):
http://ondestructionroad.org/NOLA%20ACORN.html

Found by searching Google Images for «acorn headquarters», no quotes. That was hit 3; hits 1 and 2 were pictures from the parking lot in the back. Is that indicative of the research that went into the rest of the report? I don’t think I’ll try to find out.

Comment by Portia Elizabeth | 2008-08-21 08:39:52

Did you read the post under the pic of St. Roch Market that you posted? It didn’t say ACORN was situated there; it said ACORN was helping to restore the abandoned building.

“Currently, ACORN is partnering with Cornell University to restore St. Roch Market as part of a larger Cornell New Orleans Planning Initiative. Owned by the city, this 1870’s open-air market had become a restaurant and is now vacant and in disrepair. The St. Roch Neighborhood Association is negotiating to lease and return it to its historic use. Currently, there are neither supermarkets nor convenience stores serving the Eighth and Ninth Wards of St. Bernard Parish.”

Please refrain from posting more disinformation.

Hannity said on his show tonite that he had the tape that is circulating on you tube now, that has Obama coldly talking about his support for post birth abortions. He said they are vetting it now. Expect to see that played over and over again on TV. Not only does it show him taking such a extreme position, but his voice is chillingly cold. And it also hurts him on the character issue as it relates to the fact that he called all the pro lifers “liars” and it turns out they were telling the truth. Great way for him to start his pre convention build up.

Comment by karen for Clinton | 2008-08-21 07:30:14

Yep, that we haven’t had the convention yet is our one solace and our one open door.

If the SD’s, vote for him next week, after all we have informed them of for so long, and after much of it has become documented in the msm, it will be their burden to carry. If they still stubbornly chose an entirely unelectable person over a highly capable and vetted one, and they still continue to railroad and hijack the Democratic voter process, they will all be shown to be utter fools and corrupt enablers.

They must make their choice based on what is best for the party and for this country which they are sworn to serve.

It is once again ob’s own actions, words and horrific gang of thugs he collects all around him to do his dirty work, which they must weigh on the balances of justice and they MUST find him sorely lacking of their trust and backing.

Hillary on one hand and ob on the other of the scale, clearly it is - Rise Hillary Rise - all the way to the top of that dome in Denver!

If they go ahead with their long planned coronation they will destroy their own party.

I have been in that office, it is pretty bare bones.
I helped gut a couple homes with Acorn after the storm.
I had know idea what their history was.

As someone who grew up in Chicago and now lives in New Orleans, this made me laugh, we ask this kind of question often:

One should ask why there appears to be so much deception and misdirection surrounding a tiny storefront not-for-profit organization from New Orleans.

I know lots of music production people that do events for candidates, even the White House. A campaign as big as Obama’s would have someone on staff to coordinate these events. The bill would go to the campaign/White House directly. If CSI was the “producer” they would tell the campaign the production cost, hire a sound and lighting co. and whatever other staff or expenses they needed and keep the rest. All I do know is those are big numbers and if CSI is not in the business, I agree that is really fishy.

Comment by karen for Clinton | 2008-08-20 21:49:24

Is the reason they do it to fool the volunteers they are a shabby grassroots not for profit poor company?

One of the reasons, perhaps. I have seen companies do this before, they feign poverty and are rich.

If the door knockers knew the ACORN money skimmers were on yachts eating caviar they wouldn’t sell their young little souls for $5 an hour writing fake voter registration cards.

Or did I miss something ?

Comment by karen for Clinton | 2008-08-21 07:56:42

Even black people who are against ob get called racist.

Call it preemptive to state so clearly when it applies.

Ob and his supporters made it about the color of skin and they had the audacity to do that knowing he is of multiple genetic make-up, not that it matters at all.

As a result of being accused frequently (as we all have been) we now tend to defend ourselves instinctively. I have always taken false accusations, especially ones that are meant to incite and flame, as an assault. The obots haven’t figured out yet that we were the very ones who least deserve what they hurl at us.

We so often have had to repeat our self-defense of not being Republican, Racist, uneducated, etc. that we end up starting sentences with things like “As a life-long democrat”, just to be called a liar yet again, moments later.

Go read some of the attacks black Hillary supporters have shared with us all, it is beyond sad what they have had to put up with from the oborg collective.

Comment by tj | 2008-08-21 10:47:19

Maybe we should be called Obamacist’s. Since to us it is not about the color of the skin, but about what he stands for. We are not against a certain race we are against the principles of a certain individual and the people he associates with.

Individuals here who are Black feel they need to let us know they are for us to understand that not all Blacks support BO. Most of us understand this so lets find a better title then racist to be known by.

Comment by Newly Independent | 2008-08-21 12:49:52

Or did I miss something?

You did.

Since the Obamabots and the MSM have brainwashed many into believing that only “racist” White people are Hillary supporters, Black Hillary supporters are speaking up - making their presence known in cyberspace.

They’re letting everyone know that some Black people didn’t drink the polluted Kool-Aid.

It’s true that ACORN helped the Clintons, but there are more than a few rotten apples in the barrel there. ENRON had alot of hard-working, sincere people, but it cratered because the ones in charge were corrupt. I think that’s what will come out with regard to ACORN’s involvement with the Obama campaign.
To use the Obot’s boat analogy, Obama is the captain of this sinking ship and he’s going to have to accept responsibility for ramming into that big ACORN iceberg.

Comment by karen for Clinton | 2008-08-21 08:02:43

There are dozens of things this year that should have knocked him off his way too high pedestal long ago.

When he falls and what makes him fall is unknown, but that he will fall, crash and burn is guaranteed.

Just a matter of time. Unfortunately, time is of the utmost ESSENCE and right about NOW would do nicely.

But, of course… the more stuff that comes out about barky, the better!

I think the abortion issue is a waking giant. Can you imagine how the average American is going to react when it is explained very simply and clearly? We are talking about killing suffering babies here–that is how the Republicans are going to present it. It’s stomach-churning stuff. And it is backed up by a consistent hard-left abortion voting record.

Look at the video of the nurse who held a baby from a botched abortion until it died. She was on the Senate floor and Barack Hussein Obama was there laughing at her. He voted it down 3 times. Please pass this important video around.

So how do feel about Alice and Pasquale Rocchio, a working-class couple from Queens NY, writing $61,600 in checks to John McCain’s presidential campaign and the Republican National Committee–most of it within days of McCain’s decision to endorse offshore oil drilling? Alice is a low-level office manager for the Hess Corporation, an oil industry company based in New York. Pasquale works for Amtrack.

Their $61,600 in “personal” donations were part of $1.2 million in oil industry contributions to McCain’s Victory ‘08 Committee, 73 percent coming after McCain reversed his long-held opposition to offshore oil drilling. That particular bit of campaign money was just traced back to its “source” by Campaign Money Watch.

http://www.mcclatchydc.com/251/story/46533.html

Nothing suspicious about McCain money from the oil industry, of course. But what the heck… The FEC should do a thorough investigation of both the Obama campaign’s CSI payments, and all of the oil industry contributions made to the John McCain campaign. That sounds fair to me. Let’s do that and see exactly what all we can come up with!

Comment by fif | 2008-08-20 21:49:22

Isn’t that the same off-shore drilling that Obama flipped on and now recommends? And is that related at all to the Bush/Cheney energy bill that Obama voted for? Nice try.

Comment by ziggy | 2008-08-20 21:57:09

I believe the topic raised by Estan McNeal was money laundering? I’m perfectly happy to stick to the topic.

By the way, Obama didn’t get an apparent “pay off” of over a million bucks from the oil industry just after he announced his willingness to consider some flexibility in his previous offshore drilling position. He softened his position in response to polls and public opinion, not payola.

Comment by Truthteller | 2008-08-20 22:04:24

Obama is motivated by polls and not by conviction? Thank you for admitting what we already know.

Comment by ziggy | 2008-08-20 22:15:28

He does seem unusually responsive to public opinion, doesn’t he? Maybe he’s got the weird idea that he should be responsive to the will and opinions of the voters. The republicans should really try it sometime. Maybe we wouldn’t still be pursuing a war that less than half of the American public supports, and that only 36% believe was worth the cost in lives and money to begin with…

HA!

If Obama is concerned about “the will and opinions of the voters,” he’d get the hell out of the race!

And he’d wouldn’t have conspired along with Dean, Brazile, Pelosi and the rest of the DNC rats to cheat two states out of their votes. And steal delegates that he didn’t win from Hillary Clinton to get the nomination.

I could definitely go on. But you’re not worth it.

Thank you. In fact, when I saw the heading of this post, I was ecstatic. ‘Finally,’ I thought to myself, ‘they’re writing about Robert Blackwell and the $8,000/month retainer the men laundered through the Miner Law Firm!’ I would have remained sorely disappointed except that, writing this note, I did a search for the name of the law firm - I used to search for Blackwell and Killerspin almost every day since April but gave up - and, surprise, surprise, there it is! Finally, I am no longer the only person predicting that a federal indictment for money-laundering will finally bring Obama down.

Comment by Hope Floats | 2008-08-21 12:40:29

So, McCain was the first to recognize the popularity of this issue and then benefit from it, but it’s wrong that he did it first while Obama should be commended for attacking his opponent on this then flipping in a week? I bet payola and polls had nothing to do with that.

Also, bundling is recognized with both campaigns. Obama has over 500 of them, and a few are Bush contributers tied to “small” domestic drilling co’s (I believe it was George Kaiser and Robert Cavnar) not to mention all those evil big oil co’s like Chevron, Exxon, BP, etc.

BUNDLING IS NOT MONEY LAUNDERING. Read the article before you try to distract from the topic. This was money that went to shell companies with fraudulent and nonexistent services. It looks bad when Obama has received illegal campaign contributions from foreigners and dead people.

Comment by Truthteller | 2008-08-20 21:52:16

And perhaps the FEC can investigate all the money mobster banker and Illinois state Treasurer Alexi Giannoulias bundled for Barack Obama. Giannoulias, by the way, authorized a loan to Rezko.

Comment by ziggy | 2008-08-20 22:04:57

Sure, let’s look into that. Let’s trace all of the Obama and McCain money, and see where the trails lead. I would enjoy a highly public and fully documented comparison of the two candidates’ funding sources.

Comment by Truthteller | 2008-08-20 22:06:20

I do too. Bring it on. And please be sure to include Obama’s Palestinian donations. Be sure to include all the cash Rezko bundled for his bitch in the Illinois state Senate and the US Senate.

Comment by Truthteller | 2008-08-20 22:08:48

Also include all the Exelon money and all the money the mining interests in the mountain West bundled for Obama. I also hope all the funds amassed by the state lobbyist in New Hampshire for PHARMA are included in your calculation. In fact, I ask you to compile all donations amassed by state LOBBYISTS in a separate spreadsheet. This should keep you occupied for a good month.

Comment by ziggy | 2008-08-20 22:23:31

Maybe I’ll do McCain while I’m at it. Although that would take more than months. I probably don’t have enough years left to trace down all of his lobbyist connections. John has more lobbyists directly involved in his campaign than Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama combined, remember? John’s even got advisor/lobbyists that work for foreign countries. The Republics of Georgia, Romania, and Lithuania immediately come to mind. They’ve not only taken money from those countries, but officially advise him on policy about those countries. We’ve also got the McCain advisors who were paid lobbyists for Airbus, and those interesting defense contract votes. Then there’s the $200,000 telecom contribution, and John’s letter of recommendation to the FCC…

Comment by Truthteller | 2008-08-20 22:26:22

McCain stated no one in his administration would work for lobbyists. Obama, on the other hand, has multiple state and national lobbyists in leadership positions of his campaign. Many also chair his state steering committees. But more importantly, what is one to think of Austin Goolsbee and the clandestine conversations he had with the Canadian government?

I recommend you research the candidate you support, Obamabot. And by the way, your rejoinders are wanting.

Comment by ziggy | 2008-08-20 22:39:27

Actually, I prefer wearing a belt to rejoinders. Rejoinders are a bit old-fashioned. Even John McCain wears a belt.

Comment by ziggy | 2008-08-20 22:49:35

I believe John on that point. The republicans have a lot of experience with structuring their lines of command to allow for plausible deniability when lower level operatives get caught red-handed. I’m sure Cheney can give John some pointers. Off the record, of course.

When the State of Illinois Democratic Party had misgivings about Giannoulias’ alleged mob ties and questionable loans to questionable characters, and did not want to slate Giannoulias for State Treasurer, Obama stepped in to vouch for his “integrity”. Federal prosecutors should take any Obama endorsement of someone’s integrity as a signal to commence an investigation.

Help me out here folks, I know it’s a long list.

And he can also reveal the exact sources of all those “small donors,” that he’s always bragging about, since we know that a major percentage (60%) are bundled from Wall St. firms.

What a small world! I am related to the Rocchio’s of Queens, NY. I was born and raised in their extended family and I can tell you for a fact, those garlic noses are fine upstanding people and life-long hard workers! I knew their parents, went to their homes and know their historical struggles personally!!!

So let me attest to their 15 minutes of fame. There is no doubt in my mind this is how it goes - they socked away a few dollars by living frugally for generations in the same area.

There is nothing more important to them than God and Country and their family.

They aren’t oil barons or anything like that, they grew up in a proud and strong family of workers.

My dad had two jobs and worked 7 days a week and when he took me to see the Rocchio clan they were ALL just like that. So SCREW YOU ZIGGY, that is MY family you are talking about and now I AM taking it PERSONALLY!!!

Grandma lived in Sunnyside, spent a lot of time at the Bliss St. station waiting on the 7 train.

You cannot find a place more blue collar than Queens, NY. Archie Bunker, the Nanny, and King of Queens do it some justice. Meathead was a character I fully understood! I don’t think I sound like the Nanny, I’ve done my best not to… he he.

Teak and Ginaswo (as well as Harriet Christian etc.) know what it is like to grow up in a place that is a rainbow of culture and diversity.

Every time the obots call me racist - it makes me want to freaking scream. When ob said he was post-racial at first I took that for granted since that is what MY life was in truth. He lied, he is anything but past it and has done everything he can to make the horrors of the past come back and bite us all on the ass again. And for what?

We DO NOT want to recreate ‘68. Been there done that and it is better off left 40 years long gone!

Empowerment starts within.

Hillary reminded women of that this year - loud and clear, as she always has.

Ob’s messages created nothing but confusion among everyone who listened to him talk about any subject.

One of ACORN’s projects is “A living Wage” project. ACORN believes that a good working wage is $12 per hour (interesting to note that they only pay around minimum wage and never overtime). They harass Walmart and kick them out of poor neighborhoods because they don’t pay “412″ per hour. See the following: http://noquarterusa.net/blog/2008/07/05/obamas-acorn/. There is a section on Walmart!

The Tides Foundation has funded a number of the pillars of the radical legal establishment. Chief among these is the National Lawyers Guild, which began as a Communist front organization and is proud of its lineage. At its recent convention last October, the concluding speaker was Lynne Stewart, an indicted terrorist NLG lawyer arrested for helping her client – convicted 1993 World Trade Center bombing mastermind Sheikh Omar Abdel Rahman – communicate with his terrorist cells in Egypt. In her speech, Stewart said she and her NLG comrades were carrying on a proud tradition of their forebears, past and present:

“http://track-em-down.com/teresa.html” (halfway down the page, take it or leave it, what a rabbit hole.)

The December 2003 Pittsburgh Tribune reports details of the relationship between the Tides Center and Pelosi, who received a $5,000 donation contribution from the center and deposited it into an account for a political action committee she formed in 2002 called Team Majority to fund candidates running for office. Pelosi was fined $21,000 by the FEC for accepting donations over federal limits and paid the fine in October of 2003.

According to the Pittsburgh Tribune, the FEC declined to comment on the matter but confirmed the case remains open. Violations concerning charitable foundations can also be reported to the California Franchise Tax Board .

Comment by navyvet48 | 2008-08-20 22:37:01

Several ACORN employees were found guilty of fraud in Missouri. The fraud was connected to McCaskill’s campaign. One of the workers was working under an assumed name after stealing another person’s ID

Notice how Obama won Missouri only as a result of questionable turnout in St. Louis County. This, I believe, should be investigated.

I visited the ACORN website - clicked on N.O. I see where ACORN was able to help thousands of familes in N.O. file their tax returns from that little bitty house.

I wouldn’t want to live on that block with all that traffic.

Actually I was trying to find some sort of financial report but none seemed available. I did skim the 2005 Annual Report. The 2006 and 2007 reports were not available. However, they said if I filled out the “form below” I could request a copy of the 2006 report. The only problem - there was no “form” below. Guess Obama needs to get them some more funds - they can’t keep up.

There must be an audit report out there somewhere.

According to the Malkin article linked above in the OP - 40% of ACORN’s operating budget is from tax dollars.

The way I see this - our federal tax dollars are distributed as “street” money. In other words, we are paying people to go vote.

Yeah, Jennifer Millerwise Dyke was playing that totally bogus allegation up bigtime on Hannity and Colmes this evening. She’s a pretty slick disinformation specialist. Of course that’s to be expected, considering that she’s a republican campaign strategist and was formerly a CIA public affairs spokesperson.

It did little good for Colmes to point out that the bill Obama voted against was actually a backhanded attempt to allow for the felony prosecution of medial professionals who performed a very wide range of abortion procedures, and would have opened a backdoor line of attack on Roe v. Wade choices.

Nor did it help to point out that there is already an Illinois law on the books that specifically provides full legal protection to newborns in the case of all live deliveries, even if pregnancy termination was the original intent of the procedure.

New documents just obtained by NRLC, and linked below, prove that Senator [Barack] Obama has for the past four years blatantly misrepresented his actions on the [Illinois] Born-Alive Infants Protection bill.

Summary and comment by NRLC spokesman Douglas Johnson:

Newly obtained documents prove that in 2003, Barack Obama, as chairman of an IL state Senate committee, voted down a bill to protect live-born survivors of abortion - even after the panel had amended the bill to contain verbatim language, copied from a federal bill passed by Congress without objection in 2002, explicitly foreclosing any impact on abortion. Obama’s legislative actions in 2003 - denying effective protection even to babies born alive during abortions - were contrary to the position taken on the same language by even the most liberal members of Congress. The bill Obama killed was virtually identical to the federal bill that even NARAL ultimately did not oppose….

Documents obtained by NRLC now demonstrate conclusively that Obama’s entire defense is based on a brazen factual misrepresentation.

The documents prove that in March 2003, state Senator Obama, then the chairman of the IL state Senate Health and Human Services Committee, presided over a committee meeting in which the “neutrality clause” (copied verbatim from the federal bill) was added to the state BAIPA, with Obama voting in support of adding the revision. Yet, immediately afterwards, Obama led the committee Democrats in voting against the amended bill, and it was killed, 6-4.

The bill that Chairman Obama killed, as amended, was virtually identical to the federal law; the only remaining differences were on minor points of bill-drafting style.

# Obama has been a member of Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago since 1988.

# Obama calls TUCC’s pastor, Wright, a spiritual advisor. Wright was the first person Obama thanked in his 2004 U. S. Senate victory speech, along with “fellow Trinitarians.” The name of Obama’s book, Audacity of Hope, comes from a line he said he heard Wright make in a sermon.

# From 1986 to 1989, Wright served on the board of directors of Evangelical Health Systems, Christ Hospital’s parent company. In 1995, EHS merged to create Advocate Health Care, controlled jointly by the United Church of Christ and Evangelical Lutheran Church of America, both pro-abortion.

# TUCC is a member of the Religious Coalition for Reproductive Choice.

# In 1999, I discovered babies were being aborted alive at Christ Hospital. I testified before a Congressional committee in 2000 and 2001. I was fired in 2001. Obama opposed IL’s Born Alive Infant Protection Act in 2001, 2002, and 2003.

# Christ Hospital’s CEO throughout that time, Carole Schneider, was a UCC member.

# One prominent Advocate board member then and now is Rev. Dr. Ozzie Smith, Jr., a former associate pastor at TUCC under Wright.

# TUCC was listed in 2004 as the U.S.’s largest UCC church. Advocate is the largest nonprofit healthcare provider in Chicago. A crossroads of power and money.

# Speaking of crossroads, TUCC is located only 5 miles from Christ Hospital (click to enlarge map).

I would like to hear Barack Obama answer under oath whether Wright or any UCC big wig ever lobbied - whoops, I mean “counseled” - him to oppose the Born Alive Infant Protection Act.

You’ve got a republican candidate who openly opposes a woman’s right to choice, who believes a fertilized egg has the same rights as any living child from the moment of conception, and who has expressed a clear intention to fill the upcoming Supreme Court vacancies with those who think as he thinks about interpretation of the Constitution.

He also supports a war democrats have been long united against, supports a tax scheme that greatly benefits the richest while ignoring the poorest, favors privatization of Social Security, has only a sham alternative energy plan, has no coherent plan to deal with our ailing economy, and no coherent plan to reverse staggering fiscal deficits or a dollar that’s dropping like a stone. He also shows every indication that he might reigniting the cold war with Russia, which will inevitably lead to massive increases in defense spending while we’re already sinking under the weight of a $10-billion-a-month occupation of Iraq.

Linked where below? I’d like to see that.

If the Illinois state bill was really “identical” to the federal bill which had already been passed–Public Law 108-105, HR 760, S 3, 18 U.S. Code 1531, if anyone is interested–why was a new Illinois state bill even needed?

Obviously something wasn’t “identical”.

Comment by HARP | 2008-08-20 23:50:33

The dispute flared again last week when a leading opponent of legalized abortion, the National Right to Life Committee, posted records from the Illinois Legislature showing that Mr. Obama, while chairman of a Senate committee, in 2003, voted against a “Born Alive” bill that contained nearly identical language to the federal bill that passed unanimously, including the provision limiting its scope.

The group says the documents prove Mr. Obama misrepresented his record.

Indeed, Mr. Obama appeared to misstate his position in the CBN interview on Saturday when he said the federal version he supported “was not the bill that was presented at the state level.”

His campaign yesterday acknowledged that he had voted against an identical bill in the state Senate, and a spokesman, Hari Sevugan, said the senator and other lawmakers had concerns that even as worded, the legislation could have undermined existing Illinois abortion law. Those concerns did not exist for the federal bill, because there is no federal abortion law.

In 2005, the campaign noted, a “Born Alive” bill passed the Illinois Legislature after another clause had been added that explicitly stated that the legislation would have no effect on existing state abortion laws.

‘Indeed, Obama appeared to misstate his position in the CBN interview on Saturday when he said the federal version he supported “was not the bill that was presented at the state level.”
In 2005, the campaign noted, a “Born Alive” bill passed the Illinois Legislature after another clause had been added that explicitly stated that the legislation would have no effect on existing state abortion laws.’

In this version, Obama finally acknowledges that the bill he shot down as committee chair had the neutrality clause, but now he voted against it because it would have had some deleterious effect on abortion law. As the NRLC points out to Berman, that’s flat-out untrue. The neutrality clause Obama now acknowledge existed in the law explicitly stated that the law had no intent on affecting abortions in which the fetus did not survive; that was the entire point of the neutrality clause. Even without it, in the language of the original bill, the law clearly stated that it only applied to infants born alive.
So Obama lied, and in typical fashion for liars, lashed out at the people who exposed the lie before finally acknowledging it. He told David Brody in his CBN interview taped Saturday that he found it ‘offensive’ that people pushed him on this issue, and 24 hours later the campaign folded on the point.

OK, I read the bill and the ammendment. Here’s a scenario: Had it passed, a previously diagnosed acephalic fetus expelled by induced labor that demonstrated umbilical pulsation would instantly be granted the same legal rights as a full-term infant. The law would then require that all available medical support and technology be provided to keep the fetus alive. The mother, the father, and the doctor would be deprived of any say in the matter.

Or conjoined twins are born, both demonstrating heartbeats, and both will die shortly unless a separation is performed that will prove fatal to one. The father, mother, and doctor may no longer make a decision.

Do you see no problem with this?

Comment by HARP | 2008-08-21 01:03:13

You, like most of his supporters, are beyond help. Obama could be caught in bed with a young boy and you would still make up excuses for him. Says more about your mental state than his.

Comment by ziggy | 2008-08-21 01:14:04

I’ll take that to mean you see a problem, but would rather switch to insults than think about it.

This is why fathers, mothers, and doctors should be allowed to make certain very difficult decisions, without the interference of pro-life activists who see all things as either right or wrong, black or white, and subject to legislation from a State House.

Now take your pious attitude and leave this site. No body here is interested in any more of your verbose drivel.

Comment by Katmoon | 2008-08-21 10:49:10

As I said to you before Ziggy, days ago when you brought this issue up before. Take the problem in reverse, when a mother gives birth and abandons a newborn, and the child dies, the investigation will first focus on if the child drew breath. If the child breathing, guess what that makes it, at the very least?
To write over and over again looking for some loophole to make you feel good about your candidate who clearly said and supported a less compassionate piece of legislation, will not erase the words he said or the papers he signed. Rant, rave, argue, but it doesn’t make his actions disappear, nor will it alter them, for any reinterpretation, people can figure it out on their own. No amount of reframing or trying to gloss over will change what O did and said.

Comment by ziggy | 2008-08-21 14:01:15

The inflexible restrictions that pro-life radicals would impose upon everyone else because of their own narrow and inflexible views of morality would not always allow for what I and many others consider to be the most compassionate decisions, or the most moral decisions.

Basically these are people who believe that their own definition of when an individual human life begins is right and totally inarguable; they believe that the authority of the state is an extension of the authority of God; they have some very specific ideas about what God does and does not approve of; and they believe that they have the right to force other human beings to behave as they believe they ought to, given their infallible understanding of what is and isn’t moral.

I don’t believe that such people have a fundamental right to force themselves into moments when other people are confronting some of their most difficult and heart-rending decisions.

Comment by ziggy | 2008-08-21 14:15:39

BTW, I didn’t bring the matter up.

Deliberate misrepresentations of what the Illinois bills were actually intended to accomplish and deliberate misrepresentations of the reason that Barack Obama voted against those bills are currently being used as a basis for the moronic assertion that Barack Obama promotes infanticide.

This is the just the latest character attack launched by the right-wing smear machine as a diversion from substantive issues. It has simultaneously appeared in e mails, all across the internet, and of course on FOX “news”.

I’m only responding to the bullshit. I didn’t bring the topic up in a thread that’s supposed to be about money laundering.

Dumbass. Regardless of your health, once you are born, you’re granted full constitutional rights. Whether a doctor gave your mother drugs to make her deliver you prematurely, no matter what your health is at that time, a doctor has taken a Hippocratic oath - not a hypocritical oath - to do everything to save your life or lessen your pain and suffering. Leaving babies to suffocate to death is inhumane no matter how you look at it.

I have seen Chicago area classified ads online and in small local papers advertising ‘up to $41,000 per year’ for outstanding grassroots organizational workers — that was right after the primaries ended and the DNC operations were moved to Chicago. Being from Chicago myself, I automatically assumed this was aimed at lining up workers to bring in new registrations and wondered if there will be a lot of absentee votes from people in nursing homes or worse in that area.

What’s crazy is that 1024 Elysian Fields Avenue, used to be a funeral home owned b E. J. Ranson & Sons Inc.

Great work .I hope the MM do their work and put pressure on the Gov now to do their’s.

Well, I guess this proves Obama is indeed a “new” type of politician. Other crooked politicians could manage, at best, a max of only 4 or 5 slush funds out of a broken-down false front like that one!

Am I the only one who thinks its possible that Obama could win with ACORNS help?

Our job is to put focus on Obama-ACORN - to prevent a fraudulent election.

Whether the “building” in the picture is the actual 1024 building or not doesn’t even matter because it doesn’t look as though even if 1024 is a couple doors down, it won’t look like a place where a nearly $1,000,000 operation is being run. You guys have hit the jackpot. Will the MSM do their damn jobs is the question?

Comment by Northwest rain | 2008-08-21 02:37:25

This is sort of like watching a movie — the raw cuts — where the researchers go out and get the information/data for the big name journalists/reporters. We know what the big stories should be and we also have a glimpse of what the truth is.

Will the media “names” report the news? Will their bosses even let a hint of the truth reach the audience? Or with the news be sanitized and rationalized and changed into something we no longer recognize?

What we know is that a whole lot of money is floating around and there are a lot of dirty players — who are involved in the Chicago political machine. We know that Obama-Soetoro is a player in the Chicago machine — the proof is how high and how fast he managed to raise in this political machine.

Back to Sugar’s question — will the media do their damned jobs?

They don’t have a very good track records of being journalists — they are media whores. (where is the website Media whores when we need it??)

The house in the pic isn’t ACORN’s headquarters. If you look really closely, you can see that the number of the house in the pic is 1008.

ACORN is a couple doors up Elysian Fields to the North. If you point North, in the direction of the pink building on the corner (Gene’s Po-Boys), the building before you get to the pink building is ACORN.

Comment by Whodatguy?? | 2008-08-21 04:20:23

Right. Acorn’s headquarters are at 1064 Elysian Fields a few doors up as this picture of theid headquarters matches that building:

http://ondestructionroad.org/NOLA%20ACORN.html

The question remains though:
Why do all those people and names connected with ACORN need to show 1024 Elysian Fields as their address??

Funny thing about that Google picture and 1024 Elysian Fields.
There were actually 3 different days that building’s picture was taken.
You can see this by going to 1038 E.F. and panning the camera left:
a red pick-up truck is in front.
then go to 1028 Elysian Fields…
a police car is on the corner and a maroon import station-wagon and a Land Rover is in front.
then go to 1016 Elysian Fields…
panning the camera to the right:
a silver Honda and a more expensive looking dark blue Volvo(?) is in front…and the Land Rover.

Hmmm. Busy address. Plus it looks like the building is much larger in the rear, so 1024 may be in back.

This money laundering stuff is HUGE!!

The pink building has great poorboys and daquiries and that entire block is armed robbery central. I’d stay away from it after dark if I were you.

Comment by Hope Floats | 2008-08-21 12:58:53

mmmmm… poorboys and daquiris - the real ones with just lime and rum on ice, not the bottled mix stuff.

Comment by Iggy | 2008-08-21 00:05:58

Sorry, I didn’t notice that there are two pink buildings when you head North.

ACORN is next to the first pink building, the one NOT on the corner.

Most likely the decision will give it to the stronger one.

I think the connection between the BA bill and Michelle Obama’s employment is right on point.

She carried out a very active movement in Feb. 2004 to organize opposition to that bill, and of course the implications for hospitals are huge, because as I read the bill, a second doctor has to be available to care for any potential ‘born alive’ fetus. With such a wide definition of ‘born alive’ in the statute, this would have substantial staffing and cost implications for hospitals, and liability implications for doctors, hospitals, and insurance companies. I don’t know how, in practice, the second doctor requirement would play out, but it would certainly burden access to abortion in communities where doctors would simply refuse to act as second doctor, and could open all of the above up to law suits.

I don’t, however, think that either MO or BO were/are motivated by concern about women going through abortions. I don’t think BO can really ’see’ women as real persons.

Found this house by entering the address in Google Earth. Couldn’t see the numbers on the side of the house, but I think GE identified it as 1022, not 1024, even though I entered 1024 ELYSIAN FIELDS AVE
NEW ORLEANS, LA 70117-8402 in the search bar.

Be interesting to see if this address actually exists.

Looking closer from Google maps, I’ll bet this is the place. It has some sort of red-white-blue circle decoration in one of the windows.

Well, Rep.William Jefferson won a race against several opponents despite only 30% of the vote. Sound like anyone we know and their first electoral win?

How much does it take to put names on the ballot to dilute opposition, or get names scrubbed from ballots over signature discrepencies that said petition drivers were coached to invalidate?

Educational software items too. Wonder if iGate has any ties to Annenberg?

Jefferson also took bribes from a Nigerian offical in line with a business(iGate)that is claiming work with University of Illinois.

Hmmmm. Only two letters were exlcuded fromt he Niger summary wrongly inserted to the Intelligence Committee report. Was it the letters “no” or the final syllable “-ia” in the assessment conclusion?
