“The Democrats’ Glass Ceiling”

Looks like William Kristol is trying to get something started. This brief piece in the Weekly Standard notes that despite getting 18 million votes, Hillary isn’t accorded any respect (yeah, we know).

So Hillary Clinton gets about 18 million votes in 2008, and isn’t even considered for–she apparently isn’t even given the courtesy of being consulted–the vice presidential pick. Joe Biden manages to persuade a few thousand (if that) Iowans to support him. And Barack Obama selects Biden? Normally, if the VP pick came from that year’s presidential field, it’s the runner-up (Kerry-Edwards in 2004, Reagan-Bush in 1980, Stevenson-Kefauver in 1956). (Lyndon Johnson in 1960 hadn’t entered the primaries.) And Biden wasn’t even the third most successful candidate this year (hi, John Edwards!), or fourth (Bill Richardson, I suppose), or fifth (Dennis Kucinich!).

Read the rest ->

Kristol notes that Hillary and Biden have roughly the same experience in terms of foreign policy. He also notes that Hillary is a stronger populist. He thinks either could perform the required attack-dog duties.

Then Kristol has a suggestion:

A modest suggestion to my justifiably outraged Democratic friends: Hillary’s name should be placed in nomination not for the presidency (Obama won that more or less fair and square)–but for the vice presidency. It would be an interesting roll call vote.

The title of the piece? “The Democrats’ Glass Ceiling.”

Yeah, I know it’s William Kristol, and I know he’s taking potshots at the Democrats. But the party’s brought that on itself.

Obama’s donors aren’t doing much to help Clinton retire her debt either, contrary to his promise (surprise). According to the LA Times, Clinton’s supporters have donated millions to Obama while his donors have given her a paltry 400K.

If Democratic Party unity can be measured in dollars, then the party has a ways to go.

Barack Obama’s financial backers have given Hillary Rodham Clinton about $430,000 in the two months since he exhorted them to help pay off her campaign debt, which includes nearly $11 million in unpaid bills to vendors and consultants.

Clinton donors, however, have given Obama more than $3 million in the same period, a Times review of their campaign finance reports shows.

You know, I keep waiting on Obama to come through on ANYTHING. Usually, you don’t find out if a promise is worthless until AFTER the election. Obama is sparing us the breathless anticipation, I guess.

We’re now taking cues from The Weekly Standard?

Seriously Larry, can we please all stop pretending this is a site for Hillary “Democrats”?

Comment by Francis | 2008-08-23 22:55:20

Kristol is obviously trying to stir the pot, as Lisa indicates. But by publishing his piece, aren’t you validating it?

Comment by Pink Panther | 2008-08-23 23:50:06

Obama and the new Democratic Party stirred and blended the pot when they victimized Hillary and her supporters during the primary. The new Democratic Party is a good old boy network filled with racist and sexist individuals.

As a life long Democrat who has participated in every Presidential election since I could vote starting in the 1980s, I have never seen such hatred coming from the DNC.

Comment by Thinker | 2008-08-24 01:22:24

Exactly. And a lot of us left the Dem party because of their actions.

At least she and Bill are off the hook campaigning for the loser. Soretoes has a VP to snipe at John McCain now. He didn’t need Hillary on his ticket and he doesn’t need her advocating for him on the stump. I call the announcement a commutation of her sentence.

Comment by nobamaever09 | 2008-08-24 11:46:48

I am sure, that Hillary knows that She will not be His VP… and Her time will come. Obama as usual , didnt keep His promise, to help Hillary pay Her debit, and I am so sure, that He never plan to do that!!!
One day table will turn around.

Francis, don’t be so ignorant. Intelligent people read columnists and choose to engage their critical thinking to decide whether or not they think the argument is relevant or important. Apparently you are afraid to read a different viewpoint. You ought to try it sometime, because choosing to read only that information you agree with, makes you no different from Fox News devotees, those conservatives who are afraid a different viewpoint from their own might shatter their carefully constructed illusions.

People who automatically say, e.g., all Republicans are bad, or everything on Kos is shit (or gospel, have stopped thinking. I may not read some sites frequently because of their slant, and I have limited time, but occasional reading of any alternative source can be stimulating and enlightening. But you don’t care–you just wanted to dig at Larry.

I hope that I will be so sharp as OUR VP Mr.Biden is. Live this guy alone and talk about those real issues!!!
I am glad that Hillary is not Obamas choice for VP, but very angry that He-Obama is the worst-dishonest and flip-flop candidate for President of USA, not mentioning His short list of experience. So who will be the real President, I think it will be Mr.Biden!!! Obama will be marionette. Speaches, very empty. Obama is talking about future, WHAT ABOUT NOW, NOW WE NEED CHANGES. NOW, NOW, NOW… CURRENT GENERATION NEED HELP NOW. STOP TALKING ABOUT “LATER”, WE NEED CHANGES NOW!!!!

Read the piece - it is noted thus “Yeah, I know it’s William Kristol, and I know he’s taking potshots at the Democrats. But the party’s brought that on itself.”

Reading comprehension is a lost art for Obama followers.

Comment by Northwest rain | 2008-08-23 22:21:44

Obamabots can’t or don’t read — they just post stupid stuff.

On to the real topic — it is helpful to read the “opposition” — especially in an upside down political year.

In this case — Clinton won — she won the popular vote and she won the major states needed to win the General election. Obama gamed red state caucuses — he was given delegates he didn’t win and Florida’s delegates were cut in half. The GOP can certainly see that Dean and Donna had to drag Soetoro over the line and then jump up and down and scream “he” won, “he” won.

Meanwhile 18 million people are ignored. The Republicans can count — and they know that a huge chunk of those 18 million will NOT be voting for Soetoro . . . EVER!

It is smart for Republicans to point out the obvious — because the theft of the nomination will not go away . . . EVER!

Comment by nobamaever09 | 2008-08-24 12:06:28

THAT IS WHAT i JUST DONT UNDERSTAND, why any one from those 18 millions are changing their mined and start to support Obama. WHY??? because someone told them to do so???. I thought that those 18 millions are more for real, but only 45% are stay behind what they were fighting ,for”HILLARY”. Those who start support Obama, could wait untill November 4th, but no, they got scared , and jump on Obama wagon, why they are in such horry, why not fight to the end, and make decision in November 4th. No sense at all and WE those true Hillary supporters can see, how some of Hillary supporters are weak. That is why Obama laughing at US, that He dont care about US, because of weaknes of 55% of Hillary supporters!!!Shame on You, You didnt finish You fight, and ley down so easy…

Of course, every time you show up, we know there’s a problem in Barackland. You’re like a swallow returning to Capistrano–like clockwork, you are.

What’s the problem THIS time, Francis? Did you see a poll that SKEEEERED you? Or did some mean old reporter say something nasty-wasty about poor widdle Barack n Biden?

Awwwwww, dry your tears, Francis. Understand that that pit of unending fear in your little tummy will never go away until the day after Election Day, when it will be replaced by abject despair. Your lousy candidate, the one you touted, the one who cheated his way to the nomination, is not going to win. The best candidate, Clinton, could have won this in a walk. But thanks to YOU, Francis, we’ll have four years of McCain while we wait for Clinton in Four.

Why would any women, especially an African-American women, vote for Obama after he picked Biden as his VP considering Biden’s despicable treatment of Anita Hill during the Hill/Thomas hearings? If Biden had treated Hill fairly very possibly Clarence Thomas would not be on the Supreme Court.

Comment by Francis | 2008-08-23 22:52:32

He disrespected Anita Hill?

My memory may be foggy, but didn’t the democrats introduce Anita Hill’s allegation as a means of derailing Thomas’ confirmation?

Comment by Clinton Fan | 2008-08-24 05:41:45

Go back and have a look at how “the democrats”–MY Democrats–ripped that poor woman to shit.

She reported the conduct, she did NOT want to testify, the GOP compelled it, because they had the smear and the Poor Me act by Thomas all mapped out, she was subpoenaed, and Biden AND Kennedy were either willing, or pawns–they treated Anita like shit. LIKE SHIT!

And you KNOW she was telling the truth. You’d have to be an IDIOT or obtuse not to see it. Biden behaved very badly during parts of that testimony.

But hey…only a woman, after all. Bros before Hos, isn’t that the Obama mantra?

Comment by beebop | 2008-08-24 05:42:09

Clarence Thomas sits on the Supreme Court because Joe Biden is a coward. As Chairman of the Judiciary Committee, Biden allowed Republicans to hijack the Thomas confirmation hearings. He watched passively while the nominee’s perjury was overshadowed by vicious right wing attacks upon Dr. Anita Hill. Witnesses who were prepared to substantiate Hill’s allegations of professional misconduct against Thomas were not summoned because Biden’s top priority was mollifying his reactionary colleagues. Biden became enraged during the Thomas hearings, but his hostility was not directed toward the Republicans who smeared an honorable woman or at the judicial nominee who lied under oath. Instead, the senator furiously denounced civil rights groups and women’s organizations that claimed they had convinced him to derail the nomination. “Joe Biden is not in anyone’s pocket!” he thundered.

Never thought I’d ever find myself in that “Reagan Democrat” wilderness–especially since I don’t share many of the GOP values.

However, I value integrity and honesty above all else, and Obama has neither. His entire staff are a bunch of lying, cheating bullies and buffoons. Even his supporters, as we see here, are some of the biggest assholes on the planet.

I’ve no desire to be associated with that enterprise. I’ll count on the legislature to earn their pay this time around.

Our LOCAL Asheville PUMA sent her first email to our group! From Day ONE in DENVER! (sharing)
———————————————-
I have exactly 10 minutes to write this.

It was a beautiful day here. I walked all over…took the LightRail into town. Checked Confluence Park where there is a meet and greet for Hill supporters on Monday. Found Cheesman Park, where The Rise and Pumapac and RHR are having their rallies. Found the Pumapac Den…great location…in an Hispanic neighborhood surrounded by Bail bondsman. The building they are in is completely rehabbed..they found it through Craig’s list. The owner is thrilled to have them there…the neighbors are all Hillary fans. I met Mama Puma, but Murphy was out doing errands. I’ll have to go back tomorrow.

I wore my pin and hat with another pin and wow!! People want to talk about Hillary…even Republicans like her. I ran into two women with Hillary shirts on. One is a delegate from Florida. Bad news is that what she got out of the delegate phone call is that what is going to happen on roll call is the states where Hillary has huge margins will all pass so Obama can get his win; then they will go back and let the other states vote..that’s why they are saying “symbolic.” Good news is that she heard 293 superdelegates were at this point switching to Hillary.

I am exhausted…I have to pay 10 cents a minute for this computer..thanks to your kind contributions I am able to email you..

I spotted where MSNBC/NBC are setting up a huge media location…right by the Light Rail station I used. I told Mama Puma this would be a good place to go with some signs…like boycott MSNBC, your friends in Asheville, NC…

So, I will try to keep in touch…Day two coming up!

Oh, people are really nice here!

Go Hillary!
Kathy

Had many so-called progressives voted for Gore in 2000 and not Nadar, we would not be in the jam we are in as a nation.

Actually dear francis my masters thesis was a case study comparing the application of “soft power” in U.S. Foreign policy (using Gulf War 1 the Iraq war and the two Bush administrations) Alot of work with Joseph Nye and Robert Kagen; two men on opposite ends of the spectrum.

As for your own “witty retort”, you obviously have a wonderful command of the English language. About as much as Michelle Obama does; at least from what I was able to gather from the poorly written thesis she passed off at Princeton.

eurogirl, I was utterly appalled when I read that thesis, for the grammatical errors alone, much less the shoddy thinking.

Honestly, if my high school senior daughter turned that in as an English paper, it would come back with red ink all over it. I was reading excerpts of it aloud to her, and she was laughing and correcting the sentence composition, saying “OMG!! That’s for COLLEGE?!!”

Comment by Clinton Fan | 2008-08-24 06:32:31

So what if Obama had vetted her? He would have had access to all of her financial, medical, and other personal records.

Then he doesn’t take her, he loses in the fall, and they both run again in 2012 with Obama having seen all her personal information.

That would have been a disgrace and humiliation for Hillary, and Obama would have been lambasted (rightfully I might add).

Truth is Hillary never acted like she wanted to play second fiddle to Obama anyway.

Francis,

You have to excuse them tonight. Forgive the normal rudeness they impose upon anyone who differs. They are upset and confused. On one hand they howled (and continue to howl) about how they will never vote for Obama, but are upset anyway because he didn’t make her the V.P. You should all be happy and thank Obama. You won’t have to make the hard choice and vote against the PUMA Princess. The beautiful part is no matter what happens Hill won’t be president. If Obama wins, Hill can’t. If Obama loses, Biden will probably run in 2012 with the hearty support of Obama/Biden supporters. This coupled with the Clintons’ failure to eliminate the caucus systems means Biden would beat Hill if Obama doesn’t win. A good day overall.

Comment by AnnieCarmel | 2008-08-24 01:26:28

That’s too silly. Biden will never run for anything above his senate seat again…unless he wants to be known as the new (but not improved) version of Adali Stevenson.

What a presumptous joke the two of them are…………………..wheeeeeeeeeeee and yes, you guessed it, I am a republican, but I also recogonize sexism when I see it…..the good ole boys in Washington, with the help of a few ‘good ole women wannabe’s’ gave the nomination to a little boy so they can raise him and train him in their ways. And if you Obama supporters can’t see through the smoke, you will choke on the inhalation.

Exactly..that is why she didn’t want to be his VP
He would have cost her too much to be his VP. He would have taken her down with him. She needs to be President and pick her own VP then she could make some change take place in this country. You can’t be linked with someone that is going to take you down the tube like Wright, Ayers and Rezko did to Obama. How could anyone vote for someone with those kind of connections? Hillary is pretty smart by distancing herself from him. If Hillary did (does) make it I’m sure she didn’t have him as her choice for VP. That’s a good way to really destroy your political career and with Biden, at his age and tenure in the Senate he is on his way out anyway. He doesn’t have anything to loose expect for some self-respect.

Todd Beeton at MyDD saw something today he didn’t like:

On my shuttle to the hotel, I encountered a storm of another kind: an Obama delegate from Illinois and a Clinton delegate from Massachusetts. When she said she was a Hillary delegate, the Obama delegate said facetiously: “Oh they’re letting you in here, are they?” She retorted (in a friendly but stern way): “That’s what’s wrong with Obama folks. You’re not reaching out to the Hillary people.” It was the second time in as many days that I’d heard the same complaint from a Hillary supporter. Whether it’s true or not, the perception is there and it needs to be addressed. I hope they’re on it.

Kathy,

If you can get this to MSNBC, please do — ask them when they’re going to report on it:

http://freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2065855/posts

Suit filed Thurs. in Fed. Court in Philadelphia - Obama constitutionally ineligible for presidency.

The lawyer (Philip Berg) who filed the suit said this in an interview yesterday:

“Sen. Obama really owes it to everyone to confront this. He should threaten me. “Berg,” he should say, “here are the documents and, if you do not withdraw the suit, I will sue you.” Right now, he has no basis to sue me. If he does have the documents, he should show them, and I’ll walk away. I’ll withdraw the case. But, again, he must show me a certified vault copy of his birth certificate and must show me a certified copy of the oath of allegiance taken between the time he was 19 to 21 at a Consulate, U.S. Embassy or the like. If those documents can be presented, again, I’m out of here. But I don’t think he can, I don’t think he will, and I think it is a total disgrace on his part.”

I think if Obama/campaign can’t produce these documents in 48 hours, Obama is toast, and DNC, etc. will be begging Hillary to be candidate.

I saw a dateline awhile back about Americans getting scammed on the internet by people sitting in internet cafes in Nigeria. I thought to myself “Who are these naive suckers who buy this BS hook line and sinker? How can people trust what they read simply because it is on the internet?”.

After spending a couple of months “trolling” on NQ, I now understand the fertile ground in which the Nigerian scammers have to work.

A modest suggestion to my justifiably outraged Democratic friends: Hillary’s name should be placed in nomination not for the presidency (Obama won that more or less fair and square)–but for the vice presidency. It would be an interesting roll call vote.

I disagree, Hillary’s name should be placed in nomination for the presidency.

I think most of us would agree with you about that.
As for what some have said about reading Kristol, I don’t think it negates our argument to find some agreement on the right especially when there has already been so much betrayal on the left. I don’t labels are especially useful for anyone right now. They have lost their meaning. This is not the French Revolution. We need cogent positions and a unity which can only come from discussing all the various ideas. I have been reading Commentary and Weekly Standard when I can’t find a fair assessment in left wing publications. I see nothing wrong with that.
I see plenty wrong with following one line of march.

How these people are still supporting and defending a man who sat in a church that espouses Black Liberation Theology - a doctrine that is anti-white, anti-semetic, and anti-American, swears allegiance to Africa, gives Louis Farrakhan an award, whose pastor humps the pulpit and insults our former President by name, and then claims he was his “spiritual mentor” and only speaks out against this when he was forced to do so by the press because he was busted - well, there’s no hope for these people. If one doesn’t see anything wrong with this kind of person becoming the PRESIDENT of the U.S, for God’s sake, not a dogcatcher, but the President then the party is lost. If any other person running for this office had this is their background, they would have never even gotten into the primary - the media would have skewered them and ended their political careers forever.

This kind of background is unheard of - would a member of the KKK be allowed to run for President? Would the DNC allow that? Would we? I think not - I certainly wouldn’t vote for them or believe they were deserving and I certainly wouldn’t defend them and think there was nothing wrong with them ever being a member of the KKK!

You Obama supporters are really dragging the bottom of a barrel for a candidate. He can say all the nice words in the world about race and how we all need to come together, but actions speak louder than words and his ACTIONS were to stay in that church and clap his hands and let Jeremiah Wright mentor him and marry him and bring his children there to be baptized. Those actions speak VOLUMES and he can’t deny it. Others left - Oprah left - he stayed. It’s indefensible - it’s called JUDGEMENT!

It disqualifies him from elective office in my opinion right off the bat - I can’t get past it - read the doctrine - anti-white, anti-semetic, anti-American. I don’t want a president with that in his past.

I think many will fight even harder to get her this nomination,if not the VP pick,as this entire election, process in the Primaries, was a theft of Democracy…

Many people are angry from reading other Blogs, and I don’t think the convention, will be as unified as people think…Obama has broken the Democratic Party, and it will take a lifetime to repair..Many hurt feelings, and Mccain will win the election in November,if theres no changes to Clinton’s status, from what I’ve read on other blogs.

PewL,, Don’t agree on that one but respect your opinion. I think Hillary’s insiders have been reading the tea leaves for some time now and realized that the fix has been in since Iowa. I think that’s when they were shocked…at the thuggish behavior of this guy. All that’s left to do for this season is to let it play out. There’s no way the power structure of Hill as VP would have worked. She is more experienced, intelligent and able than Barry will ever be. But I do think they were blindsided by the Dean/Pelosi/Brazile/Reid contingent.

I couldn’t agree more on your other point. There is and will be no unity…as the joke went: They met in Unity because they couldn’t find a town named Disfunctional. There should be no wishing, begging or hoping. The party is broken and not going to win another election. This breach is as great as it was in ‘68 and look how long it took to get another Democrat in office for even one term after that. It would be tragic if it weren’t so stupid.

LOL. Bill Kristol saying nice things about Hillary’s 18 MILLION voters? Talk about crocodile tears!

Looks like the GOP and corporate media are going into overdrive to continue to divide the Democratic Party–as if they and of course Barack O’Racebait haven’t thoroughly succeeded already.

Regardless, I’m still voting for McCain to make sure Obama loses. I’m still urging everyone to vote for McCain, particularly Democrats.

I am NOT a Republican. I typically would NEVER vote for the party of Willie Horton and the Confederate flag. And I always need to take a shower every time I even think about it. Normally I’d sooner vote for Nader than for a GOP candidate–any GOP Candidate. I like Nader a lot, but for his causing Gore to lose in 2000 and thereby electing that HORRIFIC Bushit.

So why am I voting for McCain? And not Nader? If in 2000, “A vote for Nader is a vote for Bush!”, then in 2008, “A vote for Nader is a vote for Obama!” FUCK THAT.

Liberal Dems such as myself always expect the GOP to do what they do, play dirty, race-bait or whatnot. But Obama’s brand of race-baiting, and not to mention gender-baiting and character assassination, has been the most dispicable thing I’ve ever seen: The GOP is an external enemy, but OBAMA IS THE CANCER FROM WITHIN IN. The threat from within is always the most dangerous threat of all.

If Obama succeeds, then he set a truly dangerous precedent: HENCE FORTH, ALL MINORITY DEMOCRATIC (OR EVEN FEMALE) CANDIDATES ARE FREE TO RACE-BAIT (OR GENDER-BAIT) THEIR WAY INTO OFFICE. Naturally, this would lead to even more race-baiting and gender-baiting by the GOP, something which they do already anyway.

THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY WOULD BE FOREVER IN A STATE OF DIVISION AND BEING PERENNIALLY CONQUERED.

Obama divided and conquered the once strong democratic coalition.

For the sake of this coalition, for the sake of the party, and for the sake of the country, we simply cannot reward this arrogant ASSHOLE for his TREACHERY.

Comment by anon | 2008-08-24 13:33:25

Of course Bill Kristol is saying nice things about Hillary’s 18 million voters. He’s trying to exploit the division in the democratic party.

Here’s what Bill Kristol said on February 3, 2008, during a Fox News Sunday interview:

“Look, the only people for Hillary Clinton are the Democratic establishment and white women. The Democratic establishment — it would be crazy for the Democratic Party to follow an establishment that’s led it to defeat year after year. White women are a problem, that’s, you know — we all live with that.”

Bill Kristol wasn’t quite so flattering when he thought Hillary was going to be the democratic nominee, was he?

Comment by Beowulf | 2008-08-24 16:38:25

Eh… In case there’s any confusion on your part… There’s no apparent disagreement between your post and mine. Of course, I’m sure we disagree around the edges, i.e. things that were not mentioned in either posts.

I know what the GOP was up to and what the corporate media was up to the whole time. Any casual reflection on the timing of the Jeremiah scandal should inform anyone of what the Man (GOP, CORPORATE media and CORPORATE America, which owns both) is up to:
1. Everyone knew about Wright for over a year before the story broke.
2. They waited until Obama racked up all those caucus wins, as well as a few primaries dominated by black voters in hardcore GOP red states, ensuring he had an insurmountable lead in elected delegates.
3. They, both the Media and GOP, scarcely attacked Obama prior to the Wright story breaking, i.e. about April. Meanwhile, both were going after Hillary BIG TIME. They were also going after Edwards early on. They never feared Obama, they’ve always wanted him to win the nomination, and later lose to McCain.
4. The corporate media kept portraying Obama the way he was portraying himself, as the American Nelson Mandela. Now they are slowly but surely flipping on him and turning him into OJ. And there’s nothing Obama can do about it.
5. Hillary crushed Obama in most of the later primaries, post Jeremiah.
6. I suspect, as many here on NoQuarter do, that there will be quite a number of “October surprises” awaiting Obama in the coming weeks.

P.S. The corporate media knew about the Edwards scandal, and sat on it. Dominique Dunne of Vanity Fair is not only on record, but on video saying he and everyone in the (corporate) media knew about Monica Lewinsky long before Ken Starr brought her out into the limelight. Everyone knows about Bush41’s affairs, McCain’s, and so on. They simply hide them–for GOP big wigs anyway.

In 2000, Larry Flint said live CNN (and I saw it live too!!!) that candidate George W. had an affair and got a girl pregnant when he was in his late twenties (or early thirties)… Now wait for the punch line… The girl was 14 years old! After that, Flint was persona non grata on all the major networks.

Recall that Flint nailed quite a number of GOP hypocrits during the Lewinsky/impeachment scandal. Flint is NOT one to make flimsy accusations. It was not hard for me to figure out that Flint’s appearances on the corporate media soon afterwards would diminish practically down to ZERO. Further, that he was never to appear on live broadcasts again.

Both Biden and Clinton vociferously criticized Obama in the primaries (as should have been expected). Why would Obama pick Biden who can only deliver a few hundred thousand votes, when Clinton can deliver 18 million very enthusiastic votes?!? Obama did not vet Clinton or even consult her on the VP position. How else to interpret this other than that Obama has a personal antipathy for Hillary Clinton? But why would he not also hate Biden? The only conclusion can be that Obama is a narcissist. Despite that the logical and intelligent move would be to pick Hillary as VP, he shoots himself and the Democratic party in the foot to assuage his hurt feelings over Hillary’s pushing him to the limit in the primaries.

Barack Obama is behaving like a child and will be spanked by Clinton Democrats in the election for it…

Maybe because Clinton supporters kept insisting they would never vote for him, even with Hillary on the ticket? That tended to diminish Hillary’s attractiveness as a possible running mate.

Open Letter to Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton

Shortly, the Democratic National Committee will nominate a candidate for President. Eighteen million voters cast their vote for you because they believed you had the experience, judgment, and patriotism to be president. Instead, an unqualified newcomer was selected by the media and the DNC based on rhetoric and empty promises. Backed by Wall Street money, created by media consultants, and pushed ahead by unearned delegates, a Chicago politician hijacked the Democratic primary.

We are now in an unfortunate situation in which a handful of superdelegates will choose the Democratic nominee. This will neither represent the will of the voters, nor will it represent what is best for our country. The superdelegates have not shown themselves to have the country’s best interests at heart. While the media and the DNC was bashing your candidacy, you stood alone against them, and neither the superdelegates nor members of your own party, save a few lone voices, stood up for you. We, the citizens, know you will be a great president, because the world watched you stand alone against adversity, and you did not waver. A president must do what is right regardless of public opinion, and you stood your ground despite the endless stream of disrespect unleashed against you. This country’s leaders should be ashamed that, with the exception of Geraldine Ferraro, no one spoke out to defend you. Unfortunately, many of those leaders proved to be followers in your time of need. Our citizens now know that many superdelegates have been bought and that they do not have the fortitude or integrity to lead this country.

Now the time has come to choose, and the citizens of this country do not want a president selected against their wishes. Eighteen million voters still want you to be nominated. We do not intend to abandon you. We will vote for you, and elect you president, but you must speak out to reaffirm your candidacy, retain your delegates, and fight against your own party. You will not be alone. Eighteen million voters stand with you, secure in the certainty that you have the knowledge and determination to be a superb president who will usher in economic prosperity and respect for America. The time is not in four or eight years, when too many uncertainties may take hold, but now. The time is now because our country is at a critical juncture. Before us looms an economic recession, a mortgage crisis, war in the Middle East, and spiraling energy costs. Foreign governments, using oil profits greedily gathered from American citizens, have bought stakes in our financial system. American urgently needs a competent president to navigate the country away from these imminent dangers, or run the risk of permanently diminished American prosperity and power. Obama can not win the presidency once his tainted past is widely understood and his political corruption is splashed across American televisions. Obama’s weaknesses will eventually be on display, ruining chances for a Democratic win. As the most popular politician today, only you have the power to win a Democratic presidency. Your time is now.

Although you are loyal to your party, a stark choice between party and country now stands before you. It is this country that you must preserve, protect, and defend, not the Democratic party. The Democratic party has not upheld the ideals of this country. As loyal Democrats, we intend to support our country’s best interests, even if that means abandoning our party. We refuse to blindly follow the Democratic party, which has betrayed its citizens by stealing delegates, forcing superdelegates to choose a preselected candidate prematurely, and tolerating caucus cheating. As citizens of this country, we intend to preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution because the Democratic party refuses to do so.

Please stand with our forefathers, who fought and died for this country. Stand alongside the men and women who have made this country great. Stand now for your country, alongside eighteen million citizens, to assure its integrity, prosperity, and productivity. Do not allow the Democratic party to perpetuate this fraud on the American people. Stand firm, as you have always done, for our children and our future, and for our liberty. Reaffirm your allegiance to the eighteen million citizens that voted for you. It is to these citizens, and to your daughter Chelsea, that you owe your allegiance. We stand for the principle of country before party, and we respectfully request that you stand with us, now, when your country needs you most.

“America will never be destroyed from the outside. If we falter and lose our freedoms, it will be because we destroyed ourselves”.

anon said: “Maybe because Clinton supporters kept insisting they would never vote for him, even with Hillary on the ticket? That tended to diminish Hillary’s attractiveness as a possible running mate.”

If this were true then it doesn’t matter who Obama picks, he won’t win. But this assertion is nonsense. Clinton supporters will follow Hillary - and right now that is back home to sit on their hands. Barack Obama can wave bye, bye to his presidency…
