Attorney’s for Unrepentant Terrorist Bill Ayers Go to Bat for Obama

Yes, I told you so. Way back in December I made what I thought was the obvious point that Barack Obama’s old friend, Bill Ayers, would likely become the poster child for one avenue of attacks against the presumptive Democratic nominee. Barack and his acolytes averted their eyes and harrumphed that this is preposterous. I also wrote about the longstanding, but hidden, relationship Obama had with Ayers (see here). Well, guess what? Even before Barack can deliver his acceptance speech a Republican 527 group is out with an accurate, understated ad calling into question Obama’s judgment. The facts are fair and the question is valid–Why did Barack Obama get in bed on both business and politics with a man who insisted that his only regret from his days as a member of a domestic terrorist group was that he didn’t plant more bombs?

ayersflag.jpg
I reported here the other day the missive sent by Barack’s campaign to the media buyers pleading with them not to air the ad and Susan followed up with the letter the 527 group sent to the same media buyers. Well, here’s the new twist. Lawyers acting on behalf of the company that made a documentary covering in part the life of unrepentant former terrorist, Bill Ayers, are going to bat for Barack Obama.

The folks behind the American Issues Project came prepared to battle. They know that you need to bring a gun–a big gun at that–to a gun fight.

Re: American Issues Project, Inc. Advertisement(s)
Dear Mr. Keker:

The undersigned represents American Issues Project, Inc. (“AIP”), a not-for-profit organization engaged in various activities and projects, one of which involves sponsorship of a television advertisement, “Know Enough?” A representative of the news media has forwarded to my client who has, in turn, forwarded to me a copy of your letter dated August 25, 2008, related to the referenced advertisement (“the Ad”).

You have alleged that the Ad improperly utilizes protected material from your client, the Free History Project’s documentary, “The Weather Underground”.

Please be advised that my client takes very seriously the protection of intellectual property. In that regard, we have reviewed carefully the snippets of footage to which you refer: news reel footage of the bombing of the United States Capitol and a brief video (without audio) of an interview with William Ayers.

The use of all materials in the Ad has been considered in the context of 17 U.S.C. §107 which sets forth the various purposes for which the reproduction of a particular work may be considered “fair”. We have also reviewed each of the four factors to be considered in determining whether or not this particular use is fair:

1. the purpose and character of the use;
2. the nature of the copyrighted work;
3. the amount and substantiality of the portion used in relation to the copyrighted work as a whole; and
4. the effect of the use upon the potential market for or value of the copyrighted work.

Having reviewed the documentary and the Ad, it is apparent that any use is within the parameters of the doctrine of ‘fair use’ of publicly available materials and is protected by that doctrine in accordance with federal law.
Please feel free to contact me should you have additional questions. Thank you.
Sincerely,

/s/ Cleta Mitchell

Here is the problem for Barack. He tried to pretend that he barely knew Bill Ayers. Well, that is a bald face lie and it will be exposed. I don’t know why or how Barack “Barry Soetoro” Obama first came to meet Bill Ayers, but as Steve Diamond has documented Ayers and Obama entered into a formal business relationship way back in 1995. Ayers hired Obama to run his foundation. You don’t do that with some guy you happen to meet in the corner market.

Barack’s hope of keeping this quiet and off the front pages is crazy. And he made a further tactical error on Monday by releasing an ad ostensibly to push back against the American Issues Project but blamed John McCain in the process. He has now given John McCain’s folks the opening for going after the issue themselves. What a maroon. But there you have it.

This is just the beginning. The other issues–Barack’s true name for many years (i.e., Barry Soetoro), holding citizenship in other countries (i.e., Indonesia and Kenya), his adopted father, his medical records, his trip to Pakistan, and his romantic entanglements–will become stories at some point. Barack will be like a paratrooper on D-Day who has landed smack in the middle of a German Army unit. He will be spending so much time seeking cover and trying to defend himself that he won’t have time to pursue a focused, coherent campaign. James Carville’s critique of the lack of focus on issues last night is spot on and is a preview of coming attractions. Obama’s relationship with Ayers is a big problem, but it is not the only one that will be hanging around his neck come October. Women and children, to the lifeboats!!

great post…I agree, he is already no doubt being distracted by the pesky truth. In the end, when you keep doing the wrong things they catch up w you one way or another. Obama and his little minions can be as arrogant as they want to be. But one thing will always remain the same and that is mistakes and wrongdoing catch up w you. Like they say, no matter where you go, there you are.

BRAVO Larry!

You can run but you can’t hide Obambi. There are not many TRUE American’s that would knowingly do business with Ayer’s knowing his terrorist past.

Too have a potential POTUS doing business with and being a close friend of Ayer’s, in fact having his political launch done at Ater’s house, is something the TRUE American citizen will NOT TOLERATE.

It’s just a matter of time now before the whole yucky details are mainstream America. It’s no wonder Obambi has the lawyers working over-time trying to squash this info. What a nutjob for for also trying to counter with his own come back ad, free publicity lol, thanks for that Obambi, you are your own worst enemy. It’s no wonder Obambi needs Hillary so bad to bolster his image, fact is Hillary’s hands are clean on this one, Obambi sinks on this all by his lonesome.

Who are Obama’s friends by the names of:
Michael Joseph Rafferty, Jr.
Jules Michael Taylor
Hank Anderson

They are all aliases (Akas) for William Charles Ayers according to the FBI.

Please check out: Weather Underground Organization (Weatherman)

420 pages

In 1976, the FBI’s Chicago Field Office prepared a summary which described the activities of the Weather Underground Organization, also known as Weathermen. This organization described itself as a revolutionary organization of communist men and women. The FBI’s analysis of its motivations, beliefs, and international travels are outlined in this summary.

Part 1a Part 1b Part 1c Part 2a Part 2b Part 2c

Weatherman Underground summary dated 8/20/76

Ayers page 188 (5 of 70 )section 2a http://foia.fbi.gov/weather/weath2a.pdf

The subject and content are extremely serious, however, I find it rather amusing the Ayers, as quoted in the report, apparently trying to be black and ignoring his own skin color used the term honkey to describe white people.

From the report: “In 1969 U of Oregon speech re SDS’s (Students for a Democratic Society) role in the Venceremos Brigade, and promotion of a trip to Cuba to retaliate for US boycott
Ayers praised black panthers called white people a “bunch of honkeys”.”

Ayers, Dohrn, and Ayer’s brother were still fugitives at the time of the report in 1976.

Comment by tzada | 2008-08-27 10:28:08

So did David Knowles at the Political Machine AOL.
Right there in his OP-ED he called white men honkeys. He is so in love with Barry that it makes Chris M tingle look like puppy love.

The bigger the truth, the bigger the intimidation tactics. If Obama is trying to shut down that ad with this much effort, it must mean there’s a right big can of truth waiting to be opened.

Comment by wodiej | 2008-08-26 19:40:16

I thought the same thing…..

Comment by Mr. X | 2008-08-26 19:41:45

I should add that this also has the side-effect of telling McCain exactly where he should continue his efforts as obviously Obama believes this to be highly sensitive to his chances in November to cause such a reaction.

Comment by SHV | 2008-08-26 19:39:46

The more of the farce that I watch, the more I think that it is the culmination of a 15-20 plan, by the “real Dems”, for payback on the Clintons. When the young and up-coming Gov of AR hooked up the the DNC in 1987 and became head of that organizaion in 1990, it was an FU by Bill to the Dem loosers. The fact that he won twice was just salt in their wounds. This is all payback by the Dem elite. The elites, however, FU’d by not vetting their chosen won. Obama turned out to be a corrupt sociopath who can’t be controlled by the elites. What a mess for our country.

I am glad that this is comming out, It is not so much about Clinton not winning for me it has become about stopping a sinister man with no rthics poor character judgement and zero class. His associations with terror supporting groups after our 9-11 is more than I can stomach. I believe as America is educated Obamas chickens will come home and he will not be elected. I challenge every democrat who feels this Party has lost ouch with their base of voters to do the unthinkable and vote them out of office. Imagen the look on Kerry, Pelosi and Wexler when they are out on the idelines without any power. We need to tak back the party by electing Republicans (vote a straight ticket) and then in 2012 let Hillary run again and elect a stright Dem ticket. We all know that this election period has been off since the begining. It is not right and they need to be held accountable. Vote for McCain don’t sit home, don’t write in HRC just vote McCain. He is a centrist like Clinton that is why the Party has so many issues with her. Mccain 08, Clinton 2012!

No roll call vote, at least not a real one. I will never ever forgive the democratic party for what they have done, NEVER. I am going to work my ass off to defeat them. If this Obambi train wreck of a candidacy actually becomes a reality (I still hope Hillary ‘08) then one of the things that needs to be done for the post-Obambi electoral disaster in mid-November is decide who will topple Nancy Pelosi as House Speaker. Those knives need to start sharpening now. I’m guessing Steny Hoyer is next up and can lead an insurgency, but Tom Sestak(Pa) (I hope I spelled his name right) looks good too. Anyone know a good young Hillary storm trooper up to that task?

Romantic entanglements? Oh, do tell. We need a good British sex scandal.

I was interested to see that the AP story (which goes all over America) is now carrying the Annenberg connection. And here’s the excerpt referencing Annenberg in USA Today –another story that will be widely spread across the USA.

Ayers was a founder of the Chicago Annenberg Challenge, a school-reform group. Obama chaired its board from 1995-99. National Review reported last week that UIC said records detailing meetings and other business were public, then reversed itself. UIC said Friday there was a misunderstanding.

Obama and Ayers, now a professor and author, live a few blocks apart in this city’s Hyde Park neighborhood. Conservative activists say their relationship is evidence that Ayers’ radical politics helped mold Obama’s views.

Here it is:
Obama camp: Prosecute Simmons

The American Issues Project released a statement responding to the letter.

“Having failed in its attempts to get our legal, factual and fully-supported ad off the air, Barack Obama’s campaign now wants to put our donors in prison for exercising their right to free speech,” said Ed Martin, the group’s president. “These over-the-top bullying tactics are reminiscent of the kind of censorship one would see in a Stalinist dictatorship, with the only difference being that those guys generally had to wait until they were in power to throw people who disagreed with them into jail.”

I request that someone clever make a video of Ayers stomping on the flag using “What a Feeling” as the sound track.

The companion video would be Obama flip-flopping like an electrified fish to the tune of “He’s a maniac.”

Please. Somebody make these, and make ‘em viral.

PS: Please move the apostrophe on the headline so that it reads ” Attorneys’ ”

I wonder if he found a kindred spirit in Soetoro? Than you have Frank Marshall Davis! We can’t forget Stuart Levine’s testimony from the Tony Rezko trial? All male, all weekend drug gatherings>>>ummmjust makes you think?

Again–I just can’t understand how the Democratic Party couldn’t see that the country that voted for “W” for two Presidencies (though he didn’t really win one of those elections) could possibly really go for Obama.

The Annenberg organization is not a bad organizations, and I am not afraid of old radicals. But we needed a Democratic President, and the DNC have thrown it away out of sheer stupidity.

Maybe they were afraid after all and want to rest in their familiar role as loyal opposition.

When all of this is over, after all the attacks, Obama is likely to be destroyed. As he should be.

He has one day that will be just his over the next 10 weeks. Thursday. If any bounce in the polls occurs in the next 2 days, it will be attributed to the Clintons. Friday Mac makes his VP pick. And it’s starting to sound like Thursday’s show could be some Greek-structure farce, which will make for the filler in the next round of “Celeb” ads.

fox news website has several articles on Ayers/Obama…

heh heh…

http://elections.foxnews.com/2008/08/26/newly-released-documents-highlight-obamas-relationship-with-ayers/

Documents released Tuesday by the University of Illinois at Chicago shed some light on Barack Obama’s relationship with William Ayers, a founding member of the 1960s and 1970s radical group the Weather Underground.

Obama’s association with Ayers, who now teaches at the university, has become an issue in the Illinois senator’s presidential campaign. The Weather Underground took credit for several nonfatal bombings on targets that included the Pentagon and the U.S. Capitol, and critics accuse Obama of rubbing elbows with an unabashed 1960s radical.

Obama has said that, although he knew Ayers as a professor involved in community outreach efforts in Chicago, he doesn’t share Ayers’ extreme views.

The massive collection of newly released documents — 140 boxes full of them — includes agendas that clearly put Obama and Ayers in the same room for meetings of Chicago Annenberg Challenge, an educational initiative that Ayers was instrumental in starting and that Obama chaired in the 1990s.

The initiative was funded by $49.2 million from the Annenberg Foundation with the intention of establishing community partnerships that would improve schools.

FOX News was among several news organizations that reviewed the university’s records by appointment. In one agenda, a March 15, 1995, meeting featured Obama making introductions and Ayers giving a briefing.

But more than a year later, Obama pushed the group to be bolder in its reforms, according to the Associated Press, which also reviewed the documents. Minutes from an October 1996 gathering show Obama, a guest at a meeting of the collaborative, raised questions about what the group should be doing.

The Associates Press reports the minutes characterized Obama’s concerns as twofold: Whether the group was raising additional money and whether money was being used “to prop up existing organizations as opposed to creating fresh educational practices in the schools?”

“At the end of five years, will we have broken the mold? Not much seems to be bubbling up that is inspiring or substantive,” the minutes say, paraphrasing Obama.

Even so, Stanley Kurtz, a contributing editor for the conservative magazine National Review, thinks Obama’s association with Ayers should raise questions in the mind of voters who wonder of Obama is as mainstream as he claims to be.

“The fact that Obama and Ayers were working together stems from the pretty sharp left-leaning ideology that both of them shared to some extent,” Kurtz said.

Ayers did not respond to an e-mail requesting comment.

and it gets worse…

http://elections.foxnews.com/2008/08/26/obama-associate-bill-ayers-unrepentant-for-acts-of-terror/

William Ayers, who was a founder of the 1960s and 1970s radical group the Weather Underground, told FOX News correspondent James Rosen in a candid 2004 interview that he still believed he was “on the side of justice” years after the group’s wave of attacks.

In the interview, conducted three years after the September 11 attacks, Ayers argued the U.S. government had carried out “many other acts of terror … even recently, that are comparable,” and claimed he and his bomb-planting comrades were “restrained” in their actions.

Ayers, now a professor at the University of Illinois, Chicago, served with Barack Obama on the board of the charitable Woods Fund of Chicago for three years and helped launch Obama’s political career in Illinois by hosting in his Hyde Park home an informal campaign event for the future state senator in 1995.

Ayers claimed the Weathermen were driven by “hope and love,” not despair, and said he did not think the group’s violent acts, targeting federal officials and local law enforcement officers, were “a big deal.”

what cracks me up is this Ayers story might have faded away out of the realm of the MSM if Obama simply ignored it… but he kept lying about Ayers and defending Ayers…

Let’s see now… Barry doesn’t share the views of Ayers, he doesn’t share the views of Wright…yet, he doesn’t have anything to say until now. Barry has no spine.

His wife said in her speech that Barry’s word is his bond…makes me want to vomit. Why is noone picking up on that? his bond??? Maybe she’s been drinking the koolaid too.

I can’t help but wonder if Obama mockingly got his salf-confessed leg-spreading groupie Chris Matthews to yell, “Let’s play hardball” when he started his response to the Republicans. Trouble is, his oppo is pitching 100mph screamers and all his lawyers, who must have been community organizing during law school, can do is say, “Huh?”

I’ve been saying for some time now that the Republican machine was quietly preparing for battle like Colin Powell & his tactical and logistics geniuses in the first Gulf War. Obama’s people have obviously been spending their time puffing on the hope bong. Once Obama is safely nominated, he and his disciples are in for a rude awakening on just how “hardball” is played.

Once Obama is safely nominated,
Retired, that’s putting is loosely. :)

I don’t know why or how Barack “Barry Soetoro” Obama first came to meet Bill Ayers

how: Frank called Bills dad…and Barry “walking Bird” Obama slept in a alley way on his first night in NY. (sure thing)…
why: shit happens. Most of the time.

Come on man, this is just another “swift boat” style attack. I’d hope that after Hillary’s speech tonight that people could be focused on helping Barack Obama win. This election shouldn’t be about this sort of fear mongering nonsense – it should be about the real issues. There are real ramifications of John McCain continuing 4 more years of GW Bush. Wars, people dying, the economy going down the tubes, the Supreme Court… We can’t take another 4 years of neocon rule via McCain. We just can’t.

This is a baseless attack on Obama that could also be made of anyone else who knows this Ayers dude who is a PROFESSOR at a college. I mean… it’s just insane that folks are trying to make a big deal out of this.

“Don’t be an Obama New Democrat
Vote Against Obama.”

Comment by Johnny | 2008-08-27 01:45:37

You are voting directly against Hillary Clinton when you do that.

Obama is not a “new Democrat.” He’s a Democrat. He believes in the things that we (Democrats) believe in – just like Hillary Clinton does – McCain is diametrically opposed to those things.

Obama voted for Cheney Energy bill. Obama voted with Bu$h to give retroactive immunity on companies who spied on Americans.
Obama is against free speech ( chastised the Gen Betrayus ad) and against womens’ right to privacy ( see Ill Senate voting records)
No Obama is NOT one of us.
Real Dems stand up for our rights, not acquiesce like Obama does.

It’s also very important to note that many people were on this board – including Republicans! This guy is a PROFESSOR! Again, think about that. He’s a professor! He was involved with counter culture biz in the 1960s. So friggin what?! It’s so amazing that anyone thinks this is even the slightest deal. It shows how desperate the GOP is to make people think about anything other than the real issues.

The thing is Obama should go after McCain with negative ads – the difference is Obama can go after McCain on the ISSUES! These attacks on Obama are just baseless smears.

Great picture. It should be used in a commercial. Here’s what I am thinking.

Start with a face shot of Ayers.
Voiceover: This is the man who started Obama’s Political Career in 1995.

Pan out a bit, to Ayers Waist
Voiceover: Obama has known him for over a decade, and collaborated with him on many projects.

Pan out more, to the knees:
Voiceover: Ayers is a self admitted marxist and terrorist bomber

Pan out more, to show the flag:
Voiceover: Are you impressed?

End of commercial
