Feeling A Little Ill

I have to admit, I am feeling a bit ill this morning. I picked up my newspaper, and there was a lovely photo of Hillary Clinton, with the headline, “Clinton ‘proud” to back Obama.” Ugh. I know, I know, she is a sitting US Senator, and a Democratic one to boot, so yes, she HAS to say that. I guess. I am still just so dismayed at what the Democratic Party has become this year, I can barely stand it. Like I said, it makes me ill. I never, ever thought I would see this day.

Others have been discussing Obama’s “Greek temple” stage, and some of the other Convention shenanigans, so I’ll spare you. Except to say this about the FAKE Greek Temple – that should be a little clue to all of you Obama supporters out there of his real mindset. I’m just sayin’ – take a good hard look, and then ask yourselves – what the heck were you THINKING?!?!?! Because of ONE LOUSY SPEECH you think this first term senator who has done nothing of note but run for President really DESERVES the highest office in the land?? And you are willing to destroy the Democratic Party, denigate the only two-term Democratic president in four decades, and any real chance of taking BACK the White House with this man? All I can ask is, WHY??? WHY are you so supportive of him? What has he done that makes you think he will follow up on ANY ONE of his promises?? Why do you dismiss the people with whom he chooses to surround himself?? Why do you keep claiming he has “good judgment”??? I just do not get it. I do not understand any of this.

And then there’s Howard Dean. And Donna Brazile. Nancy Pelosi. John Kerry. Ted Kennedy. ESPECIALLY Ted Kennedy, the man who fought tooth and nail for the Democratic nomination has become the one DEMANDING the popular vote winner get out of the race, and shut up already. All of them did not even want Hillary Clinton on the ROLL CALL. All of the leadership at the DNC has to be thrown out if we have any chance whatsoever of re-CLAIMING the DNC. What these people have done, what the DNC has BECOME is anything BUT Democratic.

So, Hillary Clinton’s speech is done. I am so going to miss hearing from her. Whoever wins this election, it will be four more years of me not being able to listen to the president speak, that’s for sure.

Oh, and one last thing – as others have pointed out so eloquently – HILLARY CLINTON is not responsible for Obama’s loss OR win (yeah, right). Stop freakin’ blaming your candidate’s poor performances on HER. It is ALL about him, which is what those of us who did not drink the Kool Aid have been saying all along. Instead of focusing so much of your energies on Clinton and REAL Democrats, maybe you should have been looking at who Obama really is/is not. Hillary is not his mother; she is not his handmaiden; she is not the cause of his not getting our votes – HE is doing that all by his own self. So knock it off already and get a clue. Go look at him standing up in his faux Greek temple, and open your eyes. It’s too late for this election, though, but still, maybe, JUST maybe, we’ll get the Democratic Party back to being one of Democratic ideals – REAL Democratic ideal, not vote stealing, caucus fraud, and all the stuff you already know the DNC did this year. Yep, getting back to real Democratic Ideas? Now THAT would be change I could believe in.

And this is WHO I believe in:

Someone on another blog suggested that the temple was really supposed to be the Lincoln Memorial to recreat the “I have a Dream Speech” of King Either way, if its Obama as God likeor Obama as reincarnation of MLK, it’s insufferably pretentious and egotistical.

Doesn’t look a THING like the Lincoln Memorial. White, with columns, sure. But it bears NO resemblance to the rather unique and readily recognizable structure of the Lincoln Memorial.

That thing looks like a Greek temple. A great big honking fake Greek temple…a Potemkin temple for a Potemkin candidate.

Actually, the US Senate was his first full-time job. The Illinois Senate only met for 55 days a year.

EXACTLY WHAT I WAS GOING TO SAY…

143 DAYs IN THE SENATE AND THAT QUALIFIES HIM FOR THE PRESIDENCY OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA (?)

If that isn’t the height of pure, unadulterated RACISM – I don’t know what is. If a caucasian senator man or woman had tried to run with 143 days in the Senate they wouldn’t have made it past the IOWA caucus.

AA Pundit on Fox just now (O’Reilly Factor) talking about how the Obama campaign has bent over backwards for the Clintons…of course he didn’t mention one word about all the campaigning Hillary has done for Barack.

I think I will read through all the 100 Greatest Books over the next four years because I swear I cannot stomach him any more than I can stand Shrub. THIS CAN’T REALLY BE HAPPENING!

Comment by Laura | 2008-08-27 18:15:43

I am also feeling disgusted at the unbelievable actions of the DNC in promoting Obama and disenfranchising 18 million voters for Hillary. The election will be a wipeout win for McCain as voters see through this fraudulent candidate.

I will not vote for Obama, I cannot vote for McCain so I intend to vote for Ralph Nader. All the votes for Nader will be recognized by the DNC as votes that would have been for the Democratic candidate, if that candidate had been Hillary Clinton.

I am also disgusted with the Democrats in both the Senate and the House. I will vote against all Democratic incumbents for the disgraceful way they have refused to impeach Bush and have continued to fund the war.

The Democratic party has become corrupted by the special interests and they could care less what their constituents think. Wake up America and stop voting for these corrupt party hacks.
Until they see that third parties are a significant threat to them they will continue to treat their constituents like dirt.

I feel good about my vote for Ralph Nader. Nader is not a spoiler. The Democratic party is spoiled.

At what point will they get off the bandwagon that crucified them and find ANOTHER bandwagon…bigger and better.

Comment by Psyche | 2008-08-28 15:02:27

Psyche

At what point will they get off the bandwagon that crucified them and find ANOTHER bandwagon…bigger and better.

1. Because they’re Democrats.
2. Because they live in the real world and understand that they lost.
3. Because they decided to come home to the party that reflects their values.
4. Because they know that however imperfect and in need of repair, it’s worth working within the party because there is nothing bigger and better out there.
5. Because they’ve been welcomed home.
6. Because folks on the liberal web sites are helping Hillary pay down her campaign debt now that she’s back in the fold.

If you’d like to have some idea of how we actually feel, recommend that you check out Billmon’s post and comments. You might be surprised!

I love Hillary’s orange pantsuit. When she walked out there, it made me smile. So different from Pelosi with her designer clothes and jewels. Hillary is real and none of the rest matters. I don’t even care what the media says anymore. There is a real feeling of peace in my heart since her wonderful speech because I know she has survived this and her life will continue to be exceptional and glorious and the low life DNC can’t touch her anymore. I predict she will get whatever she wants in the senate from now on. I heard Biden is up for re-election this year, but he isn’t resigning from the senate. He will go back in Jan as a loser and so will Obama. Bill will survive too.

Comment by Ai1een | 2008-08-27 19:32:58

Bill O’Reilly was just dissing Hillary with the orange pantsuit (when did HE become a fashion plate?). I thought she looked fantastic – bright, glowing and powerful and of course…rather pumaish, lol.

It is dispiriting to have to listen and see what’s going on. The whole Convention is beyond weird and unbelievable.

But I’ve made up my mind. I’ll vote for John McCain in November and hope the grownups return to the Democratic Party. However, I intend to stay registered as an Independent. The Dems have lost the do-or-die loyalty I once had. They betrayed the confidence and trust I placed in them, perhaps foolishly. That won’t be coming back anytime soon, not for any party.

fyi – our local NC PUMA sent another report today from DENVER. (sharing)

——————————————–

Hello Hill Fans!

Yesterday was very busy. First, I really got into wearing my Hillary gear as it was the day of the march. I put on my Hillary t-shirt along with, oooohhh, about five buttons: three on the front and one on each sleeve. I grabbed my Hillary rally signs and went to the 16th St mall for coffee. On the way, I had an excellent interview with Canada.com. This was my idea of a reporter. Absolutely no spin. Also a really good interview with the LA Times. I gave her one of our dvds.

My gear got quite a bit of attention and lots of photos…press and others. Met a couple of other folks with Hillary signs and had coffee. Then off to the march!

The march was really great! Crowd estimate was between 300 – 500 Hillary fans. Lots of signs, drums, and chanting. A lot of press coverage; lots of interviews. The march was maybe a mile to a mile and half. I thought it went really well, although the march route was off the main route.

After the march I went to the Womancountpac.org luncheon. The food was really good and quite coincidentally I ate at a table with one of the founders of the New Agenda. She gave me her email, so we will be able to connect with them concerning our boycott of msnbc/nbc. There were several speakers, mainly women running for congress or the senate. One on particular, from New York, spoke about electing women who support other women. This is a problem, as we had several women, for example Pelosi, McCaskill, and Napolitano, who were supported by women contributors and then did not support Hillary. Then, Hillary arrived!!! Yes, I saw her. She had Chelsea with her. She gave a brief talk, mentioned unity, but not OB’s name. We were all relieved. At one point everyone started chanting HILLARY! HILLARY! And Hillary quipped, “With that energy we could raise this room.” After the talk I managed to get up close enough to have her sign my rally sign. Then, I waited for Chelsea to walk down, and I went up to her, told her I was from Asheville, and gave her our dvd! She said she liked Asheville and looked real interested in the dvd. (that was my last one! should have brought more). Interestingly, at this precise moment, Anne Marie was also walking up to Chelsea. So we also chatted.

As I left the luncheon and walked out the door, I ran into Kristie (can’t remember her last name now), the founder of Clintons for McCain. She was organizing a walk down the sidewalk to the MSNBC/NBC site so a few of us joined in. She started chanting, Clintons for McCain, and we were immediately surrounded and barraged with insults and calls. So, Kristie asked for a police escort. (the streets are lined with fully equipped riot police and I think most are Hillary supporters). So we got this escort down the sidewalk. Just at this point, a reporter from the New York Times asked if he could interview me. So, I said yes, as long as he walked with me, which he did.

Well, by this point I had to rush back to where I was staying so I could clean up and get back into town for the Denver Group meet and eat. (I can not tell you how much I have sweated since being here…the sun is intense! and all of those marches and walks are in the sun).

The Denver Group meet and eat was in a French restaurant (casual). Heidi was there, but Marc could not come to Denver due to personal issues. Heidi is a very petite, very bright person and she recognized my name and said how impressed she was with our group and all we do. She spoke briefly and said the Denver Group’s focus after the convention will be reform of the Democratic Party, starting immediately with a change in leadership. She said it is important to start right away, as the new leadership is chosen right after the convention. She, personally, will not be voting for Obama and it sounded like she would just not be voting. Many of us in the room had other opinions on this, but Heidi speaks just like she writes: very precisely and thoughtfully, and also she is very gracious and charming, and knows how to handle a crowd. I’d say keep an eye on this group.

After this , I went to Cheesman Park to watch Hillary’s speech. They had a big screen set up. The crowd was very upbeat and we all cheered wildly when Hillary came on to speak. One person started dancing in the wading pool. There was press there also. However, once Hillary started speaking, the mood definitely went down, as she said OB’s name so many times….some people wanted to leave. But we all stayed.

This morning I spoke with two people who were inside the convention. Nancy from San Diego said that there was such a great feeling of love for Hillary and many people were crying. Her speech was terrific. Dee, another new friend, said many people, and delegates, were saying, “she is my president.” There really is no unity inside that convention. I can testify that the Obama people are making no effort to be nice to Hillary people or trying at all for unity; apparently that is somehow Hillary’s job…Nancy said she gave an interview where she said that it was not Hillary’s job to create unity and what was Obama doing about it?

Today we are hoping to get a bit closer to the Pepsi Center as the delegates enter and show our continued support for Hillary. I have to leave tomorrow, so it will be an early evening for me. I have to clean up the place I am staying, which has been really quiet and comfortable, but pretty much all I do is sleep and shower there.

If you come across any interviews with me, please save them as I really don’t have the time to check myself.

Go Hillary!
Kathy

Fox already joining in the fun, reading comments about the Temple. As big, if not bigger, miscalculation than the European fiasco. Because, coupled with those images, it will be the last one we’ll have to witness. They don’t get it. Every time he goes the rock star route, his numbers dive. But then, that’s good news for me.

NO WAY
NO HOW
NO OBAMA

What has Obama done to win them over? He’s not Hillary Clinton. They had a winner, but she wasn’t good enough for them, so they’re going with a loser instead. I still remember the Kos poster who wrote “I would rather lose with Obama than win with Clinton” Looks like you’re going to get your wish, dumbass.

Did they ask if that person was a Republican? Not that it wasn’t already obvious. Only Republicans hate the Clintons that much.

Sad, sad day indeed…

I don’t understand this either.

But, I know one thing – (today is a day of grief over the loss of a potential great President – a national tragedy) tomorrow we must stand strong and fight Obama and the DNC.

I never want to see this again in my life time.
One of the reasons I love No Quarter is the brilliant people on this blog who have dared to not accept what has happened to a party that we all loved – most of us since children.

Sooooo, tomorrow we pull it together and do what we can to save this country. I see this as a very noble journey we are on to defeat Barack Obama.

.
The DNC

I met a traveler from an antique land,
Who said: Two vast and trunkless legs of stone
Stand in the desert. Near them, on the sand,
Half sunk, a shattered visage lies, whose frown
And wrinkled hp and sneer of cold command,
Tell that its sculptor well those passions read,
Which yet survive stamped on these lifeless things,
The hand that mocked them, and the heart that fed;
.And on the pedestal these words appear:
‘My name is Obamiassus, King of Kings;
Look on my works. Ye Mighty, and despair!’
Nothing beside remains. Round the decay
Of that colossal wreck, boundless and bare
The lone and level sands stretch far away.

Any Greek woman over the age of 30 was considered over the hill and no longer an ornament to society (that’s all they were good for, apparently, being ornaments). BO is DETERMINED to perpetuate this ancient Greek tradition. Pity (for him and the ‘bots at the DNC) it’s 2008 and the rest of us aren’t buying it. Thank Goddess for internet. 143 days served in the U.S Senate – OBAMA

Only served 55 days a year in the Illinois Senate – OBAMA

The first 6 years in Illinois Senate – accomplished virtually NOTHING.

Last year in the Illinois Senate – Emil Jones Jr. ordered other Dem. Senators to give their own authored legislation to Barack Obama so he (Emil) could “make me a U.S. Senator”.

Obama left his own AA constituents in filth, no heat, leaking roofs, rats, roaches, mice and their feces – all in Tony Rezko slumhousing which Obama, for YEARS, helped Tony Rezko obtain, in exchange for Rezko bundling money for Obama.

143 days served in the U.S. Senate b/f he began running for the Presidency…

THIS ENTIRE CAMPAIGN WAS A SET UP OF MAGNUM PROPORTIONS. THE ONLY ONES WHO WILL SAVE AMERICA FROM THE MONSTROSITY OF THIS CORRUPTION…

Yeah, because a guy with absolutely NO executive experience (and a VP with same) is like, you know, dudes….SOOOOOO much better!! It’s like, you know… KEWL to have the excitement of not knowing if the DUDE will be able to pull it off! And like, you know, we don’t care if he voted for FISA or war funding or Bush’s Energy Plan or flipflopped on oil drilling or a hundred other issues because, like, you know, issues don’t matter since he’s cool and he like, you know, plays BASKETBALL and stuff and, you know, likes Jay Z!!! You know? It’s like, you know, dudes, way more important to have a President that, like, you know, LOOOOOOKS KEWL!

And the drama of the future (what stupid thing will he say NEXT without his teleprompter?) is like…so much more interesting, and er, “KEWL, dudes,” because, like Obama, like, you know… he’s better because he’s not white, you know….because BLAAAAAAHK is KEWLER and like, you know, more ethnic..and voting for OhhhBAAAAAAHMa will show that I am not like, you know, ….racist?….you know? Oh, and those Clinton years of peace and prosperity were like, you know..total epic fail, dudes! And those Clintons, like, you know…they’re OLD! And it’s not KEWL to be old!

Barack and his supporters need to get over their racism if they hope to accomplish anything. It’s holding them back more than any other trait they have.
I’m so sick of the racism being shown by blacks supporting obama, it’s disgusting and hate-filled.

anyone who votes on the bsis of the color of skin is a pure bigot and racist. 90+ % of the black voters chose obama, that means at least 45+% of the black community is nothing but racists. I think more because they can never name reasons for voting for him other than “hope” and “change”. Hope for WHAT? Change to WHAT? Not all change is good.

I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character. ~~~ MLK Jr.

Obama’s skin color is not the issue. The issue is his lack of character.

Gloria Allred goes to CDP delegate breakfast wearing a gag in Clinton protestBy Jeff Mitchell
Category: LocalTags: Democratic National Convention
DENVER — Feminist attorney Gloria Allred was denied an opportunity to address the California Democratic Party at its morning breakfast meeting Tuesday, prompting the celebrity lawyer to wrap a red bandana across her face as a gag.

Following the meeting she suggested that the Democratic National Committee was not giving her candidate, Sen. Hillary Clinton, fair due during the convention. She called for the DNC to provide a full roll-call vote for the New York senator during tonight’s first ballot process.

A least one sympathetic California delegate attended the meeting wearing a gas mask in protest.

According to the Obama rules of the “fair” roll call vote he was not allowed to trail at any time during the roll. Hence California and their hundreds of Hillary delegates had to pass.

Instead of going back to your court-appointed methadone clinic/vocational training center, you will be forced to walk a gauntlet of over-worked and underpaid college and graduate level employees for making their already hectic and pressure-filled lives a bit more tenuous when you decided to play in the sandbox with the adults and you “F’d” it all up.

Walking the gauntlet will involve being pummeled with un-opened cans of Red Bull, Ludacris and Jay-Z cd’s. You will then be tagged with a tracking monitor so that you can be tracked for migratory purposes!

Rev. Amy, you expressed many of my sentiments here.

This is a combination of a power grab by DNC power-brokers and former party losers, combined with co-dependency by the electorate toward a mixed-race candidate, all of which maybe was or maybe was not taken advantage of by Rovian influences. The only people with clean hands are the ones who have always been able to think for themselves.

I disagree with any delegates switching-over during the first roll call, however, because in some states that is illegal, and it creates a misrepresentation for the history books.

And WHY does every single person on my teevee tell me he’s a great speaker? I’m from Missouri, and we think obama’s an outright idiot. Just like so many black people, they overcompensate for their lack of skills by pretending to have them. Dude is about to be exposed in a couple of months.

How the DNC fell for this I’ll never figure out. Can Kennedy, Pelosi, Brazille, Dean, Reid, etc be this stupid? Can BO himself not see that he’s being used and no one is going to protect him now. McCain doesn’t care how many people threaten race riots in November like the DNC was afraid of in Denver(go back to statement made by former Gov Wilder, Brazille, Sharpton, AA pundits, etc)Let him try and use the race card against a Republican, LOL.

Hillary supporters expect the purchased or threatened delegates to switch their votes to Hillary, thereby risking their political future; and these supporters seem to be utterly perplexed if the delegates don’t do that – however, if Hillary puts her own political survival first, tries to shove Obama down our throats, and does not give a hoot about the country, this seems to be perfectly fine in the eyes of these ardent Hillary supporters.

If it is true that the party leaders have it in for her, then I do not see how she can have a chance at the presidency in 2012 or whenever.

I voted for Hillary during the primary, and even went to the evening caucus (I live in Texas), getting yelled at by Obama suppoerters, and now Hillary simply throws my vote away and tells me I might as well have voted for Obama to begin with? Hey, Hillary, there was a REASON why I picked you over American-hating Obama; therefore my vote is going to McCain in November.

Unfortunately, there will be millions who make no distinction between a lukewarm endorsement, there will be millions who will not read between the lines, there will be millions of Hillary supporters who will cast their vote for Obama based on Hillary’s speech.

Hillary, I think you are right, and there is no difference between you and Obama: Both of you put your own careers first. You will never ever get MY vote again!!! And I couldn’t care less about her pretending to “work” for health care and for the little man.

Comment by John House | 2008-08-27 17:51:53

Now now. I think you missed the point of Amy’s post. DON’T blame this on squarely on Hillary. of course her political career is important to her; she’s been fighting for it her entire life, and if seeing her as President is important to you, then you better well damn vote for her in 2012 again (that is if nothing spectacular happens during the roll call). Her lukewarm “endorsement” of Obama is just one punch in the political fight…it won’t be over until she’s in the White House.

Comment by John House | 2008-08-27 17:54:29

Comment by MBC | 2008-08-27 22:11:49

Max I understand how you feel, I felt that way too, but there is one thing to consider…I don’t think Hillary did what she did just for the sake of her political career or the prestige of being a Senator (like BO does), I think she did what she did in order to remain in a position that would enable her to accomplish her goals (our goals). I think one of the clues was her statement about watching President Obama sign in Universal Health Care. She is holding that over his head big time. I think in the end with Hillary, it really is about the issues and SHE will ensure that she accomplishes those goals and doesn’t have to have a title or glory to do it!

It makes me physically sick, too, and that’s no small thing with me. I already have high bp and take meds for it; for the last week or so I’ve been feeling like I’m about to have a stroke or something. This election business is really doing me in, as before it all I was ALREADY frustrated with the state of humanity as it is (vapid, disgusting, GOTTA HAVE IT NOW, entitled, STUPID).

It is interesting, though, how this election cycle has kick-started the reshaping of my own politics. I used to idnetify with the hard left, but now I feel like I’m more of a centrist/conservative. It’s weird.

Comment by cathnealon | 2008-08-27 17:59:40

I think you need to read between the lines a little more. At face value you’re right on but let’s say she did denounce BO and articulate her reasons why she could not support him. This would have been more for her personal benefit than for her country. Rather, she understood that by going against BO after he and the powers that be hijacked the nomination would be counter productive. It would have made her even more of a scapegoat and all attention would have even been more on her denouncement than on all the dirty laundry that’s going to start coming out. This way there is a clear field for the secret life of Barry Sotero to start being aired without any distractions and accusations flying around. No, she played it exactly right. She was already done for in June and now she’s going to watch the Savior be crucified.

I supported Obama in the primaries because he was more likely to win the general. With two candidates with as few policy differences between them as Obama and Clinton, that’s the only obvious criterion for support I can discern. Nothing that happened during the primaries or thus far in the general election season has altered my judgment that he is in a better position to win than Clinton would have been.

As for the rest, it boils down to your thinking Clinton was entitled to the nomination. I don’t think that’s a totally irrational position, I just really don’t agree with it. She’s a leader in the party because of her husband. She has barely any real political experience–she has spent less time in elected office than Obama has. She’d have been a fine candidate and a fine President, I’m sure, but her negatives among independents and Republicans were too high to make her my choice for nominee.

So that’s all. I still think Obama will win, and if and when he does, he’ll get to work implementing his policy agenda, which is indistinguishable from Clinton’s (if you disregard that gas tax holiday nonsense as the embarrassing, desperate pander that it was).

Comment by Ferdberfle | 2008-08-27 18:14:28

Obama is a shiftless, lazy political hack with delusions of accomplishment and grandeur. His resume is a thin as the paper it’s written on and worth even less. How does that work for you?

Comment by Anon12 | 2008-08-27 18:21:44

Well, it’s not responsive. If that’s true, but he can win and Clinton might not, and they have identical policy positions, and I agree with those policy positions…see where this is going? Qualifications matter approximately infinitely less than policy positions when you’re choosing candidates. And the primary was a choice for policy positions of sorts, even though the two major candidates had mostly identical policies, because if one candidate is likely to lose, then a vote for that candidate is a vote for Republican policies. (This being in the mind of the voter, obviously. If you thought Clinton was more electable, then a vote for her was a vote for Democratic policies.)

Comment by Ferdberfle | 2008-08-27 18:39:24

It was responsive and you’re naive if you think Oblahblah can actually bring about change or any of that other fluff he yaps about incessantly.

If he really WERE a Constitutional scholar, he would have know that the whole “change” shtick is patently false. The Constitution has built-in restraints on rapid change. In addition, the sort of change your false Idol envisions will cost so much it will make our current drunken sailor in the WH look like a piker in comparison.

But you bots know better and who are we to argue with child-men and women? We don’t need yet another arrogant, ignorant occupant for the WH.

Comment by Anon12 | 2008-08-27 18:45:08

You’re not making the slightest bit of sense. What big “change” is Obama proposing that Clinton rejected because it was unconstitutional or too expensive? Universal health care? Obviously not. Cap-and-trade system for auctioning carbon permits to combat global warming? No, they were in sync on that too. “Change” is just a theme the Obama campaign successfully latched on to. It doesn’t mean very much, by itself. Policy positions are what matter. And Clinton and Obama were and are very much in agreement on all major policy issues.

Comment by Anon12 | 2008-08-27 18:37:15

If Obama wins the election, I don’t care if he’s the shiflessest, laziest candidate ever to stand for public office in this country. His policy positions are what matter, not his personal characteristics. And his policy positions are a) identical to Hillary Clinton’s policy positions in almost every detail and; b) 180-degree reversals from essentially everything the Bush administration has been disastrously pursuing for the last 8 years.

Comment by Ferdberfle | 2008-08-27 18:43:23

Their positions are not identical. I’ve done the research.

But that isn’t the point, ultimately. The reason I will never vote for him is because he is unfit and unqualified for the position for which he is applying.

Comment by Anon12 | 2008-08-27 19:12:06

Their positions are not identical. I’ve done the research.

Elaborate, please. I’m aware of mandates versus no mandates on health care, and I don’t consider it consequential because the President doesn’t write the bills. I’m aware of the gas tax holiday, which was an incredibly stupid, pandering idea with no policy merits. I’m aware that Obama has a clearer time frame for Iraq withdrawal, but Clinton has never expressed opposition to his 16-month timetable, that I’m aware of. Do you have any instances of significant policy divergences from your research?

Where have you been? Are we even on the same planet?

Comment by Kelvin Hearts PUMAs | 2008-08-27 18:30:48

Actually, she does. Obama was Ill State Senator for 6 years before he came to the Senate in 2002. Hillary’s first political gig was her Senate run in 2000. Until then, she was a first lady, chasing away all of Bill’s girlfriends.

Comment by Anon12 | 2008-08-27 18:33:09

Well, those are facts. She has spent less time in elected office than Obama. She has been in the U.S. Senate for 8 years, and Obama has been in the U.S. Senate for 4 years and was in the Illinois Senate for 8 years before that. 8 + 4 = 12 > 8.

As for the negatives, old polling data is a little hard to come by, but unless we really are on different planets you should at least be willing to concede that before the primaries began, Clinton did have much higher negatives, because she was emblematic of the strong woman archetype that Republicans hate, and was perceived as aggressively partisan by independents. Obama, by contrast, had much lower name recognition, but it was mostly positive recognition. After the primaries and now into the general election, Obama has almost certainly overtaken Clinton in negatives among Republicans because he’s the Democratic nominee and she isn’t. As to independents, I doubt there’s much difference at this point. Just keep in mind, Clinton was starting from a base of high negatives, and then the Republicans would go to work on her. Obviously it’s not simple addition, but there’s little doubt in my mind that Clinton would have worse favorability ratings and probably be running lower in the polls than Obama is if she was the nominee right now.

Comment by Paul Arnett | 2008-08-27 18:11:26

I am watching the roll call vote which is farcically portraying the real situation- popular vote and pledged delegates. There are so many sickeningly absurd expressions it is not worth trying to enumerate them. One psychotic woman, in reporting her states delegate count as a massive reversal and distortion of the actual vote ( Hillary had won the state easily ) proudly prefaced her report by saying “Reflecting the principal of one person, one vote….”. I swear she wasn’t being ironic. It’s now ended at 1550 to 350 by Hillary’s request. A political movement that requires this kind of swashing and humiliation of it’s opponents ( opponents not even enemies ) betrays it’s insecurity and need for overcompensation. Truly dangerous and scary! Should Obama win he will beat the Democratic congress into submission, a congress already supine vis Bush will be all to happy to prostrate itself before the One. We are
heading for a real tragedy and, yes, it can get worse, much worse, and it will.

A political movement that requires this kind of swashing and humiliation of it’s opponents ( opponents not even enemies ) betrays it’s insecurity and need for overcompensation.

It’s strange that you would say that, because it was certainly Clinton supporters who, by and large, made up the chorus of voices calling for a roll call vote at the convention. (Of course, that’s what the Obama team had originally planned, but Clinton’s negotiators weren’t originally sure that that’s what they wanted.) They were adamant in their demand for a roll call, even though they knew (or ought to have known), that not only would Clinton lose, but that she would lose by a wider margin than she actually lost during the primaries due to delegates’ understandable preference for presenting a unified front. So Clinton supporters got what they wanted, the roll call vote went forward, and now suddenly it’s a “swashing [sic] and humiliation of it’s [sic] opponents.” I truly don’t get it. Is this really just dishonest, heads-I-win-tails-you-lose crap, or were you one of the few Clinton supporters who didn’t want a roll call in the first place?

Comment by K Bentley | 2008-08-27 20:11:41

The ROLL CALL. It’s was like watching a movie that you know how it’s going to end. When Arkansas gave all their delegates to Obama, did any one of you Obama supporters thank that kind of strange?

This has always been about Obama. We PUMAs must do what we set out to do. Our new motto “Remember November.” We must do all we can to keep Obama out of the White House.

I’m calling all of you that have done your homework of Obama’s life and friends. Staying home, not voting, or voting 3rd party, is a vote for Obama. I will back McCain, a war hero that loves our country. With Hillary in the senate I do not worry about Roe v Wade, or any issues really. Together we will wipe out the sham that we saw today at the convention. We have to take down the Democratic Party, then rebuild for the people.

Comment by jc | 2008-08-27 18:13:56

Obama won because he ran a better campaign. Doesn’t that suggest he has some ability to carry through on his promises? If Hillary is so much more competent, then why did she lose when she had every advantage to start with? I would have happily voted for her in the general election because I care about the same issues she does. If you want more and more tax breaks for the rich, then vote McCain.

I declare these two men cut of the same cloth and each of the lowest caliber available in the political landscape, which is saying a lot.
In the interest of my Country and in the interest of my own life, I stand as a citizen with no political party, no preference of either organized/disorganized group and pledge my vote in November to John McCain for the soul purpose of preventing the election of Barrack Hussein Obama, the man destined to destroy all that has been achieved by our Country in the past 230+ years. This vote does not go to support John McCain, it goes as a protest vote AGAINST Obama and against the dirty politics the Democratic Party has lowered itself to in this farce of a convention.
I am furious, saddened, disgusted and appauled at the actions on the convention floor that facilitated this farce that will destroy the Democratic Party as we know it. Is it ok to nominate for President of the United States a man with virtually no experience on the national or international stage?
· Do you find that it is in line with your moral standards that we nominate for President someone who found it acceptable to remain an active member of a church that espoused not only hateful rhetoric, but which elevated Louis Farrakhan to great heights, remembering that Farrakhan is a man who thinks Hitler was a “great man”.
· Is it fine with you that we nominate for President an individual who has a history of associating himself not with one, but several different people who have been and/or currently are criminals and/or terrorists?
· And, if the above is alright with you, is it also ok that we nominate for President a man who would minimize and/or claim innocence about these relationships?
· Are you comfortable with nominating for President someone who has shifted their position on numerous key issues in a matter of weeks such that the number of shifts in the short amount of time is unprecedented for a Presidential candidate and would leave anyone wondering where they truly stand on any issue?
· Can you ignore the fact that we nominate a person who, as a state senator, avoided controversial issues by voting “present” a disproportionately frequent number of times?
· And, are you also able to ignore with any pangs or self-doubt the fact that we nominate someone who while a state senator, ignored the plight of impoverished individuals and families, most of whom were African American, living in deplorable, sub-standard housing conditions in his congressional district?
· Should the above be alright with you, is it also ok that the Presidential nominee would have befriended the very person who was the slumlord of those housing units, and that he should accept seed money from this now convicted criminal in order to kick start his campaign?
· Do you feel it shows integrity to make a commitment to an adored colleague and friend by the name of Alice Palmer and then break your word, obliterating her from the ballot back in 1996?
· And what of nominating a man for President who during a press conference after winning his senate seat, tells the press corps and the American public, that he will not run for President, citing lack of experience and the need to begin such a campaign immediately upon becoming a senator, who then proceeds to run for President?
TODAY, you can be exceptional by doing the thing we humans find it hard to do – reassess our positions, face challenging discrepancies between our values and our positions, and show unusual courage and bravery by privately and then perhaps openly acknowledging that a mistake has been made and a new day is here.
