How’s it going out there?

UPDATE: Am I seeing things, or are those lines behind him suggestive of the Christian cross? Remember the Mike Huckabee commercial that used the same trick?

I had better things to do. Cleaned my toilets and took the dog out to pee. Heard one neighbor vacuuming out their car and the other neighbor who’s tv I saw over the fence had on Nickelodeon. Guess we’re not Obama country here.

Comment by Liz B | 2008-08-28 21:55:16

We have on Nickelodeon, too! It’s an awesome SpongeBob festival…do you think they might get more viewers than The one’s Speech? At least SpongeBob is intentionally funny.

Comment by myriam | 2008-08-28 22:44:17

During The One’s speech, on the other channel I watched a Homer Simpson cartoon all the way through for the first time. It looked, for the minute before I changed BO’s channel (Ohhhh, that’s the change he was talking about …) that he was using three tele-prompters instead of the usual two. Hillary appeared to be speaking from memory during her speech.

He says his grandma worked her way up to middle management. She was a VP for crying out loud! OF the largest bank in Hawaii. That is not middle management. And I still don’t buy the mom was on food stamps garbage, either. Don’t tell me his grandparents who both had college degrees (like her) and good jobs let their only child and grandchild live on food stamps. It makes no sense.

He should brag about this grandmother’s career and his moms PhD in anthropology as well as her work in microlending in 3rd world countries instead of poor mouthing.

Even if she were on food stamps, keep in mind that BHO and his sister went to exclusive private schools on scholarships. His own daughters go to private school at the prestious University of Chicago prep school. And he think we will trust him to fix America’s public schools for the mass of children–he has never had any dealings with one!!!

ee, he gets PUMA’s and he gets Hillary supporters… you need to take a lesson from his playbook, but it is under lock and key when it comes to those with lofty minds…;)

Obama needs to make his case, and he has failed to do so with many Democrats. The fact that he has supporters like you, coming into other peoples houses and pissing on what they hold dear does not further in our view of Obama as the crowned nominee.

IMO, you should to stop being a sore “winner”, or would you rather have me accuse you of being a Republican, because you daily win votes for McCain.

Comment by BernieO | 2008-08-28 21:16:37

Yeah like playing Chain of Fools before Bill spoke then Addicted to Love after.

Comment by Leisa | 2008-08-28 21:45:40

I caught that too. I wonder if the media will sweep that under the rug as they do all of Obama’s failings.

So far, Obama fails the gracious winner test, the diplomat test (has he even tried to reach out to Hillary’s supporters?), the good judgment test (the songs alone before and after Bill’s supportive speech), impeccable associates test, good manners test, integrity test, and the ultimate test… CIC.

The GOP have been collecting info on this man longer than the Dems… The DNC offered up an unvetted candidate and they think he will win a mandate?

I am truly embarrassed about what the Democratic Party has become. I think there are enough of us Dems and Repubs, that are sick and tired of this crap. Team Obama tried to capitalize on our discontent(can we say poll driven and will say anything to be elected?), but his message and motives were to manipulate. We saw his “grassroots” movement as the AstroTurf that it is.

We really need to find a way to build a viable third party. One for honest moderates that will work to solve our problems here and globally. We need a party that will help our country live up to it’s promise. It would have to be an exclusive party though… No plastics would be allowed…

Comment by Liz B | 2008-08-28 22:04:17

Comment by heather | 2008-08-28 22:15:18

Yes that was classy and a good tactical move. It gives him the upper hand, as you have to be strong to be gracious.

Comment by dee4hill | 2008-08-28 23:06:53

Great point! Yes, you have to be gracious to be strong - 2 attributes Barry has never cultivated.

Comment by heather | 2008-08-28 23:34:57

Comment by Hope Floats | 2008-08-28 23:05:43

How many times did they say “grassroots” on CNN?!! If this were the case, you would have seen a truly democratic process. I’m used to it now. Given how much they overhyped his toughness, specificity and “new approach” touching on social issues, I feel pretty confident the Republicans will eat him alive.

and where was BO on MLK day, at the State of the Black Union…absent, busy campaigning. He seems to be afraid to do things that honor the AA community, but wants their votes. People who are going to vote for him would have no problem with him attending those events, wouldn’t have cared if he attended those events, people that would care that he attended aren’t going to vote for him people that have a problem aren’t going to vote for him anyhow…

He just seems more than a little two faced to me…

Reason tatters, the forces tear loose from the axis.
Searchlight casting for faults in the clouds of delusion.
Shall we go, you and I while we can
Through the transitive nightfall of diamonds?

Mirror shatters in formless reflections of matter.
Glass hand dissolving to ice petal flowers revolving.
Lady in velvet recedes in the nights of good-bye.
Shall we go, you and I while we can
Through the transitive nightfall of diamonds?

I will , I will, I will. At first it was yes WE can, now it is I will.

While we are sleeping in front of the TV set that is showing the crowning of CalibuBo, the rest of the world is no looking at the Obama - ACORN - Ayers - Soros connections. And they don’t like what they see. Read this. Don’t worry. If Obama comes on with a hard on it won’t even make a point in his toga and you won’t miss a thing.

Editorial: Soros poised for payback on his political investment

Examiner Staff Writer 8/28/08

It’s bad enough that American taxpayers have to bail out the privately owned, tax-exempt Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.

But it’s truly outrageous that tax dollars will also go to support activist groups involved in voter fraud and illegal immigration.

According to House Financial Services Committee member Rep. Michele Bachmann, R-Minn., the small print in the $42 billion bailout bill passed by Congress and signed by President Bush requires these two government-sponsored mortgage giants to

deposit 4.2 percent of all new mortgages they underwrite into the National Affordable Housing Trust Fund.

The Congressional Budget Office estimates that will be $531 million in fiscal 2009 alone.

Here’s the catch. Bachmann warns that the trust fund — the largest expansion of federal housing assistance since Lyndon Johnson’s Great Society — is required to make grants to organizations that have “demonstrated the experience and the capacity to carry out the proposed Trust Fund activity.”

Which means that money can easily be siphoned off to groups such as the National Council of La Raza and the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now. The latter has been heavily funded by George Soros, the mega-wealthy mogul behind many liberal causes.

La Raza, which opposes efforts to stop illegal immigration, and ACORN, members of which have been convicted of voter registration fraud in numerous states, are each eligible for $230 million under Section 134: Grants for Housing Counseling Assistance. And because the trust fund is “off budget,” the grants won’t show up on any congressional balance sheets.

The Fannie Mae Foundation has already contributed more than $800,000 to the ACORN Housing Corp., which was also actively involved in the sub-prime mortgage disaster.

La Raza testified before the Financial Services Committee in favor of the housing trust fund on numerous occasions. Little wonder. It’s a perfect way to hide payoffs to activist groups that in turn support political candidates who promise to keep their funding spigot on full blast.

These morsels are just a taste of what’s to come if Barack Obama wins the White House and Democrats gain veto-proof majorities in the Senate and House. As an opening bid in his $6 billion anti-poverty program, Obama seeks a Social Investment Fund Network with a White House office to disburse funds to “social entrepreneurs and leading non-profits” that are inspiring “change in their communities.”

Translated: Obama will give billions more tax dollars to radical non-profits like Soros’ ACORN and LaRaza. Soros – who is also a long-time Obama donor - must want a return on his investment.

Hey, tax man. I want my money back!

Wow, that sounds bigger than this program I stumbled across. Something called the FSP (Financial Sector Program) of Haaarvard crosspollenated with NATF (New Alliance Task Force) and worked with the FDIC and the Mexican consulate to provide banking and mortgages for illegal immigrants in the lovely city of Chicago with 35 banks involved. Now that there is some change you can believe in.

Durbin was talking about governmental reach into our private lives, perhaps forgetting about Obama and his support of FISA?

And here’s a view from a writer at CNET, the geek/technology blog, on Biden, which makes it seem like Biden is for governmental intrusiveness, and is a big friend of the copyright interests.

The lede:

By choosing Joe Biden as their vice presidential candidate, the Democrats have selected a politician with a mixed record on technology who has spent most of his Senate career allied with the FBI and copyright holders, who ranks toward the bottom of CNET’s Technology Voters’ Guide, and whose anti-privacy legislation was actually responsible for the creation of PGP.

(PGP, as I understand it, is encryption technology that does not give government a back door into the message — but I’m no expert here.)

http://news.cnet.com/8301-13578_3-10024163-38.html

There’s a lot more here, but I think the techies who are also progressives won’t like much of this.

Undercover.

While it is historic for the people who didn’t pay attention. It makes you wonder if history is going to let this go unchallenged? Will books be written 50 years from now about Gore and Hillary winning but really losing?

The DNC not only stole from the Dem popular vote winner. They stole this historic night from those unwitting Americans and political wonks like me by selecting him like Bush was.

They sullied this historic moment with their corruption.

The jerks were probably scared that the Republicans were going to beat them to the historic punch with Colin Powell. So they figured the end justified the means, because they knew Colin Powell would have no probelms getting Dems to cross the aisle for him.

Since you cruise the same information that we do here. You know what really happened….and you know they stole the geniune moment from you too.

I truly hoped this moment in history would have been so much more.

I wanted to have goosebumps on my arms and tears in my eyes….and the DNC stole that from me and so many others here.

So, I guess the thought of Colin Powell as Pres and how excited my husband and I were at the possibility will have to supplant tonight….since that was real.

His pandering to small business is worthless. Most small businesses have income taxed at the highest bracket, so reducing their capital gains taxes does nothing, unless you are George Bush and call income capital gains. Oh, I guess that is coming up. I read ahead to avoid watching.

Comment by Carol | 2008-08-28 23:06:54

I am a small business owner (sole proprietor), work is a little slow right now but expect it to pick up soon. Not only do I pay higher taxes but I also have to pay the full SS tax abt. 13%. Reducing my capital gains is not going to help me in the least.

Huge contrast between Bill Clinton’s big smile on stage and Obama’s “proud face” .. he didn’t look happy when he came out. I bet the pundits are trying to see which standing ovation was longer …
Not listening to the speech after I caught half the intro and see he still claims he was raised by a single mom!?

Comment by Hope Floats | 2008-08-28 23:42:11

Obama always does that thing where he tries to drag out the applause. You can tell the difference between the welcome Bill Clinton got and the prompted cheering Obama got - his kept starting up all over again. I bet people were placed in the crowd.

Hey, he just mentioned the grandmother! She taught him about hard work. Put off buying new car or dress for herself. Poured everything she had into him. “Tonight is her night as well” (typical white person that she is).

Swipe at John McCain:

“I dont’ know how John McCain thinks celebrities live, but this is how I’ve lived my life” (Wha?) “and these are my heros” (McCain probably has a higher standard for the word ‘hero’)

I SNATCHED THIS COMMENT FROM ANOTHER BLOGGER WHO SEEMS TO KNOW SOMETHING ABOUT MENTAL HEALTH

“This is a nearly psychotic man with a deep-seated need for larger-than-life approval. The expression of this need eclipses everything else in his world to an extreme, sociopathic degree. When he gets up in the morning, if he sleeps at all, he has no free choice except to seek another audience to bolster his arrogance and his ego. What this maniac doesn’t realize yet–what he wont permit himself to admit–is that he will fail in his mission to become the President of the United States. His arrogance and lack of conscience will catch up with him and bring him down.”

If I remember correctly, Gore was tasked to do it.

Yeah, I think he’s trying to make us avert our eyes when the onslaught begins - starting with Ayers - continuing with Rezko, Rev. Wright, the birth certificate, the citizenship questions, the ACORN questions, the late-night limo limbos, his wife screaming about whitey - you know, that stuff that McCain “dreamed up” just to impugn barky’s “character” - but he’s really only saying it because he’s “black,” donchaknow. After all, bambi doesn’t even know those people - well, maybe to say hi in passing…

Comment by Firefly | 2008-08-28 21:48:18

Ya know, McCain and the republican 527s can have a field day with this speech - it’s so full of lies - just picking it apart and juxtaposing what he claims against the truth.

I’d especially like to see them put the lie to his rewritten personal “story” about being raised by a single mom on food stamps, blah blah blah. It’s so easily proven a lie - and he’s not only been telling this FAIRY TALE himself for months and months, but he’s got all his minions telling it - over and over again. And they all know it’s complete BS. They don’t care - it’s “so compelling,” donchaknow - and nobody but nobody has ever called them on it.

“[We can't have] the same old politics and same old players.”

“At defining moments like this.”

“New politics for a new time. This is one of those moments.”

“The change we need is coming. I’ve seen it.”

Now he’s bragging about moving people from welfare to work?!? I thought that was the evil Clintons who did that.

Wow, was that bad. Nothing but fluff.

Comment by morganjane | 2008-08-28 21:59:38

I just heard Matthews insulted Colin Powell and C. Rice… and insulted history by suggesting Obama won this nomination when we all know that the DNC thought a AA would be better than a Woman and made it happen…
Here is what the idiot said…
“Again he [Barack Obama] carries with him the history of tonight. And it’s important to point out, as we have not so far, Barack Obama was not given this nomination, he won it. He was not offered a nice title like Secretary of State, like Condoleezza Rice got from the Republicans. He was not offered the title of Chairman of the Joint Chiefs as Colin Powell was, or Secretary of State. He won the nomination of a Democratic Party voting together. He defeated all other opponents and took the prize and took the leadership. He is the chosen leader of the Democratic Party.

He is not some popular appointment or a showcase appointment. He is the victor here tonight. That’s why he dictates the agenda. That’s why he says, personally, what the Democratic Party will do if he’s elected President. He is the leader of the party. He may be the leader of the country through a democratic process. It is so vital to understand the history being made here tonight. This is not something cute or wonderful. It is something compelling and powerful. This country has changed its history.”

Sounds to me Matthews gets off on being dominated (by Obama or someone). That is fine and all but he should really leave his fetches in the Bedroom!!

Seems to me he just insulted the brains of the Bush operation.

It’s obvious from this Ziegfield folly show, that obama does not understand that he is a public servant. His actions betray the fact that he considers the public his servant. I’m betting that the majority of Americans will be turned off by this coronation. This is a Greek tragedy for the democratic party.

Comment by Anne | 2008-08-28 22:14:26

What makes me the saddest about this, is that if he loses big, no one will have confidence to present a viable AA candidate on the national stage for a while. I would very much like to see this. Both party and voters will equate all AA candidates to Barack Obama. How unfortunate. If he loses by a small margin, perhaps not so much. But then he may not go away and I want him to go away. just go away. please.

Comment by Julius Streicher | 2008-08-28 23:33:36

I don’t think that’s something to worry about. If people regret such a turn of events they will realize they have Obama to blame. Then again, look at the type of people supporting Obama - the radical muslims, etc. Do you really want to give them another chance? It is THEY who have to change before a black candidate can be given another chance.

Tequila has no worm, or gusanito, in it. There are very strict laws regarding what is tequila. (Just like Jack Daniels isn’t Bourbon… It’s only whiskey.)

Mezcal, made from the maguey, has no restrictions and some distillers like to decorate it with the worm that feeds on the plant.

I love tequila. I have several hand made tequilas in my collection.

Check out Casa Noble. Also, El Jimador and Corralejo. These are for sipping only! If you were to combine them with margarita mix or some other pollutant you would be promptly struck down by a bus load of cancer. Serious.

Just read this at Politico.com. It’s McCain’s response to Obama’s speech:

“Tonight, Americans witnessed a misleading speech that was so fundamentally at odds with the meager record of Barack Obama. When the temple comes down, the fireworks end, and the words are over, the facts remain: Senator Obama still has no record of bipartisanship, still opposes offshore drilling, still voted to raise taxes on those making just $42,000 per year, and still voted against funds for American troops in harm’s way. The fact remains: Barack Obama is still not ready to be President.”

It’s hard to separate out what he said from the hype of the corinthian columns, the fireworks, the massive size of the crowd (only 1 out of 7 people interviewed in the waiting line were actual Obama supporters). So, yes, what an extravaganza. But the speech didn’t introduce any elements we haven’t already heard coming from his mouth. Time will tell.

Comment by Carmen Purser | 2008-08-28 22:24:01

I found this all to be a bit too much hype this week. Hillary promoting this guy to the American public. Bill Clinton saying that he too had been accused of “being too young and inexperienced” just seemed to put down his own record. If I recall by the time he came to Washington, had he (Bill) not been in charge of running something–3 time Governor and Attorney General for Arkansas?

BHO is such a farce. He tell us to save fuel by inflating our tires with air, but then he puts on a show in a stadium that is projected to have cost in excess of $5 million. As a former community organizer why didn’t he go out and feed some of the hungry as a real gesture of compassion? But then I forgot–he dd not do much for the citizens of Chicago when Rezko had them living in horrible conditions. When I came through Chicago airport last week, I heard this city is more than $400 million in debt. One of BHO’s senior finance manager is Mayor Daley’s brother–amazing! He should be helping his brother figure out how to get their city out of debt.

Amazing this celebrity status of BHO–just heard David Gergen say it was more than a speech–”it was more like a symphony!!! ” So now we know he can put on a show and he can put on a concert!! We will need more than music to get our country on course again.

Do you think BHO’s surrogates will correct CNN comments–”that this is the largest crowd he has ever spoken before.” I thoughyt he spoke before 200,000 in Berlin!

If you watched the pre-speech video, did you note that little was mentioned about those college years–this was the period I believe where he had those wreckless years–wouldn’t want to bring attention to those years. Didn’t say anything about his sister either–would have to remind us about his Indonesian ties and stepfather.

All just a real paraxdox or as Bill Clinton say “It’s a fairy tale.”

I know who I will be voting for at the poll. Can’t wait for the Republican Convention next week.

Comment by Karma | 2008-08-28 22:37:35
