Columnist on Gov. Sarah Palin [Updates]

225px-palin1.jpgI’m astonished — it sounds like the McCain team played the cleverest of media games, even leaking that the Romney family had been screened by the Secret Service. Now we know it is Gov. Sarah Palin, the second woman to be selected to run for the vice presidency. [UPDATE 2: Check out the flood of stories and blog posts about Gov. Palin at Memeorandum.com. In a short while, I will post a new story with a "blog round-up" to give you a sampling, pro and con, of first impressions. E.g., The Moderate Voice says this is John McCain's "desperation" choice. (Huh?) What McCain's selection HAS accomplished is to have pushed Obama's speech OFF the radar as the top story of the day! What a move by McCain.]

[UPDATE 3: At the end I am posting the "official" announcement I just received from John McCain's press office.]

This morning, a reader sent me this column by Jack Kelly in June 2008:

McCain Should Pick Sarah Palin for VP

[...]

There is one potential running mate who has virtually no down side. Those conservatives who’ve heard of her were delighted to learn that McCain advance man Arthur Culvahouse was in Alaska recently, because they surmised he could only be there to discuss the vice presidential nomination with Gov. Sarah Palin.

At 44, Sarah Louise Heath Palin is both the youngest and the first female governor in Alaska’s relatively brief history as a state. She’s also the most popular governor in America, with an approval rating that has bounced around 90 percent.

This is due partly to her personal qualities. When she was leading her underdog Wasilla high school basketball team to the state championship in 1982, her teammates called her “Sarah Barracuda” because of her fierce competitiveness.

Two years later, when she won the “Miss Wasilla” beauty pageant, she was also voted “Miss Congeniality” by the other contestants.

Sarah Barracuda. Miss Congeniality. Fire and nice. A happily married mother of five who is still drop dead gorgeous. And smart to boot.

But it’s mostly because she’s been a crackerjack governor, a strong fiscal conservative and a ferocious fighter of corruption, especially in her own party.

Ms. Palin touches other conservative bases, some of which Sen. McCain has been accused of rounding. Track, her eldest son, enlisted in the Army last Sept. 11. She’s a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association who hunts, fishes and runs marathons. A regular churchgoer, she’s staunchly pro-life.

Kimberley Strassel of the Wall Street Journal said Sen. McCain should run against a corrupt, do-nothing Congress, a la Harry Truman. If he should choose to do so, Gov. Palin would make an excellent partner “The landscape is littered with the bodies of those who have crossed Sarah,” pollster Dave Dittman told the Weekly Standard’s Fred Barnes.

Sen. Barack Obama’s support has plunged recently among white women. Many Hillary Clinton supporters accuse him — I think unfairly — of being sexist. Having Sarah Palin on the ticket could help Sen. McCain appeal to these disgruntled Democrats. [...]

UPDATE 1: From the Wikipedia bio summary:

Sarah Louise Heath Palin (born February 11, 1964) is the current Governor of Alaska, and the presumptive 2008 Republican candidate for Vice President of the United States.[1] She is expected to be the second female Vice Presidential nominee representing one of the two major American political parties.[2] Palin was selected as the runner-up in the 1984 Miss Alaska contest, and received a scholarship to the University of Idaho where she received a degree in journalism. After working as a sports reporter at an Anchorage television station, Palin served two terms on the Wasilla, Alaska, City Council from 1992 to 1996, was elected mayor of Wasilla in 1996, and ran unsuccessfully for Lieutenant Governor in 2002.

After charging ethical violations by state Republican Party leaders,[3] she won election in 2006 by first defeating incumbent governor Frank Murkowski in the Republican primary, then former Democratic Alaskan governor Tony Knowles in the general election.
On August 29, 2008, presumptive GOP nominee John McCain chose Palin as his nominee for vice president.

UPDATE 3:
This is John McCain’s official announcement:

JOHN MCCAIN SELECTS ALASKA GOVERNOR SARAH PALIN AS VICE PRESIDENTIAL RUNNING MATE

For Immediate Release

Contact: Press Office

Friday, August 29, 2008

703-650-5550

ARLINGTON, VA — U.S. Senator John McCain today announced that he has selected Alaska Governor Sarah Palin to be his running mate and to serve as his vice president.

Governor Palin is a tough executive who has demonstrated during her time in office that she is ready to be president. She has brought Republicans and Democrats together within her Administration and has a record of delivering on the change and reform that we need in Washington.

Governor Palin has challenged the influence of the big oil companies while fighting for the development of new energy resources. She leads a state that matters to every one of us — Alaska has significant energy resources and she has been a leader in the fight to make America energy independent.

In Alaska, Governor Palin challenged a corrupt system and passed a landmark ethics reform bill. She has actually used her veto and cut budgetary spending. She put a stop to the “bridge to nowhere” that would have cost taxpayers $400 million dollars.

As the head of Alaska’s National Guard and as the mother of a soldier herself, Governor Palin understands what it takes to lead our nation and she understands the importance of supporting our troops.

Governor Palin has the record of reform and bipartisanship that others can only speak of. Her experience in shaking up the status quo is exactly what is needed in Washington today.

A first-term governor of Alaska, ready to lead on “Day One”?

Well so much for McCain’s “inexperienced” argument.

Biden will tear her apart in the VP debates.

Comment by katmandu | 2008-08-29 10:17:14

Joe Biden, who was a C and D student and fourth tier University of Delaware? Who plagiarized a law school paper (before he did the same when he stole the Kinnock speech)?

Washingtonian Magazine does a poll every year of Congressional staffers. Guess who was biggest drone? (after Robert Byrd) Joe Biden.

Her Wikipedia entry is sterling. And unlike Obama, who except for his failed tenure as head of the Annenberg Challenge in Chicago has never managed anything, she has been a highly successful manager of her state. Her approval ratings have been in the 80-90% range.

This is exciting.

Comment by Nicole | 2008-08-29 10:27:43

Alyssa’s argument doesn’t wash: even if true (which I doubt), that wouldn’t make Sarah any less sterling in the pulic’s eyes. After all, Kerry clearly won all the debates against Dubya, and Hillary demolished Barack in their head-to-head debates.

Try another tack, Alyssa.

Comment by vb | 2008-08-29 10:44:38

She has more experience running things than BO… Governor, Mayor, City Councilmember, owner of 2 businesses, Chair of National Governor’s Assn Energy Committee and the list goes on.
The only experiences BO has running anything are:
1. Chicago Annenberg Challenge (and we now know how that ended)
2. Subcommittee on Afghanistan….he’s never held a meeting.

She also represents change, unlike Biden.

Comment by wolf | 2008-08-29 13:51:09

You are absolutely right she is a change. A change to overthrow Roe vs. Wade. No Thanks.

Comment by Jana | 2008-08-29 14:04:58

Get real. NOBODY is going to “overthrow” Roe v. Wade, much less a VP.

First, a VP has ZERO do with ANY change in the law…that is the Supreme Court’s jurisdiction. And IF, by some long shot chance, a vote came before the Supreme Court to “overturn” it…it would only go back to individual states to make their own laws about it.

The more you hit Palin over the head with Roe v. Wade, the sillier you look, and the better she appears for standing up in a personal way for what she believes.

Comment by jon hocking | 2008-08-29 15:01:47

the issue jana is not what she did with her child but what she would tell you to do with yours ..are you unable to see that

Comment by RR | 2008-08-29 17:28:04

Maybe you should have thought about that before you helped beat Hillary down with sexist tactics. Maybe you would have some credibility now. Oh, well.

Comment by Jackie | 2008-09-01 03:28:08

Regardless of how you feel about Palin she adds a compelling voice to the mix. She represents women who do not often have a voice on the national stage.

Many of us are not pro-choice because of how we feel about the nature of life.

It is time that we make a law, a good one, that defines the uses of abortion for the best interests of the nation as a whole. Because right now it is just plain broke.

Comment by Get a Life | 2008-08-29 17:58:57

McCain has already said he supports overturning Roe v Wade. If you don’t think this is one of his main objectives, you are deluding yourself.

States have no rights if a constitutional ban is passed. So much for states rights.

We will have more Alitos, Roberts and Scalias. Period.

My right to chose will be gone. My choice, my body. Not some right wing nut jobs.

Comment by wolf | 2008-08-29 19:31:27

Do you actually read or listen to the promises of the candidate you are endorsing? Or are you the type of person who simply barks loudly expecting others to roll over to your point of view. McCain has said he is committed to putting a judge in the supreme court that will support overturning Roe v. Wade. In addition, he has chosen a candidate that is rabidly pro-life. Are you so blinded by your loss that you’re willing to endorse someone because they’ve chosen a female veep? Perhaps, you are the one that needs to “get real!” Obviously, you were simply looking for a female president at all costs. Hasn’t the last eight years been proof enough that the republicans have been tasking the country in the wrong direction? Do you not care about the environment, health care, our standing in the world? Are you actually are bullying your agenda at the expense of these issues.Perhaps you were simply pandering to the republican agenda all along. Well, you can keep your closet Republican views. They certainly don’t align with mine.

Comment by MzTrina | 2008-08-29 22:58:08

Lol @ “Get real. NOBODY is going to “overthrow” Roe v. Wade”…that is EXACTLY what McCain said he would do as president. But hey, don’t take my word for it, see it for yourself:

Silly. One pro-life judge on the Supreme Court is not going to overturn Roe v Wade.

Agree, anyone who makes this argument only wants more lies to justify the current Democratic Party trainwreck. McCain hit it out of the ball park today with Palin.

Whoowhee, Obambi had this coming and 18 million Clinton supporters now can all wear orange and celbrate the new Orange Revolution to throw out the corrupt Obama hi-jacking of the Dem nomination.

The joke is now on Obama and he looks totally unprepared now that he has to run the first real contested political race in his life.

How very, very unattractive Obama and Michelle look in comparison. They can take their anger and their hissy fits back to Chicago because their faux moment on the stage of history has passed them by.

hmmm…Obama has an ivy league degree. Was president of the Harvard law review. Is clearly intellectual. A professor of law. A community activist. A state senator. A U.S senator. WON the primaries squarely! Can talk about issues without someone whispering in his ears…

Palin was a hockey mom, beauty queen (not in that order), mayor of a small city and well governor for 20 months. She shoots moose and likes to pop out kids.

Yeah. Quite a contest.

Yeah, and where are his college grades and link to anything he wrote as a the President of the Harvard Law review, show me any cases he argued before a court, and why didn’t he know they don’t speak Arabic in Pakistan, why didn’t he hold any meetings of the foriegn affairs committee, and why did he claim to be on the banking committee…jeez, my hand is cramping…I’ve got more questions, but let’s start with those.

Comment by coolpun | 2008-08-31 02:00:06

Wow. You could have answered some of those questions by yourself.

1. He graduated magna cum laude in Harvard Law School, meaning he was in the top 10% of his class, and he was president of Harvard Law Review, the highest honor for a Harvard Law graduate. Since we are talking grades McCain finished 3rd from the bottom, and GWB, well….you know…

2. He didnt make the comment about arabic speaking pakistanis. It was afghanistan. Check your facts first. Also lots of muslims speak arabic. The point he was making stands.

3. The foreign relations subcommittee meetings were held as part of the larger committee headed by Joe Biden.

Now, I am not arguing that everything he did or did not do is easily excused, but I think given the alternative this guy is awesome.

Comment by Ellie | 2008-08-30 14:13:53

This is what your referral says: Constitutional balance would be restored by the reversal of Roe v. Wade, returning the abortion question to the individual states. The difficult issue of abortion should not be decided by judicial fiat.

Yes, McCain is against abortion, in particular, late term abortion. Have you ever seen one?

I also believe this should be handled by States, there would be a lot less conflict….

Comment by Terrin | 2008-08-29 23:58:45

You are right, the VP has nothing to do with Roe v Wade or over turning abortion. For that matter, a President rarely has little to do with that either. Yet we somehow get caught up with a Presidential candidate’s views on that. However, you should take the VP’s lack of power in that area further. The VP generally has no power period, other then being the deciding vote in a dead locked Chamber. Presidential candidates pick VPs for personalities to help them win the election. If McCain or Obama wins, they will do what most Presidents do with VPs: quickly push him or her out of sight.

Comment by Jimi | 2008-08-30 18:35:07

You are missing the point ! McSame already said that he wants to get rid of the liberal members of the Supreme court. In addition, he lambasted the court for granting prisoners of war the right of Habeus Corpus. This is SUCH AN old provision that has been with this country since day one. Whats next for McSame, are women going to be chattel again ?

This guy is such a NEOCON that who knows what rights he will take a way from women when he gets his way. Oh, and I hope you all know what a “classy” guy McSame is ? He called his wife a Trollop and a C word. So much for being a liberated man.

Comment by Trouble | 2008-08-30 11:35:51

Jana,

You’re right. It’s not Palin who would overturn Roe v. Wade.

It’s the Supreme Court. There are four justices on the court now who WILL vote to overturn Roe v Wade: Thomas, Scalia, Alito, and Roberts. That means the Republicans need only one more. And one of the other five will almost certainly retire or pass in this next term.

Which means if McCain wins, it is virtually guaranteed that we’ll be back to the days of coat hangers. Of course that may not matter because our economy and healthcare will be so bad that no one will be able to afford or obtain anything but a coat hanger abortion anyway.

Thanks to Hillary supporters like you who put a perceived gender snub before country or your own best interest if that happens.

Comment by Jimi | 2008-08-30 17:59:00

You are absolutely clueless.

Yes, A VP and Most certain a McCain presidency would over throw Roe vs. Wade. They have already started appointing nut jobs such as Scalia, Thomas, Alito and Roberts who are more than happy to Kill Roe with “death by a thousand cuts”.

One more republican appointment means that Roe is over, and your devotion to Hillary will leave you with no right to choose at all.

Ever hear of the morning after pill? Dudh!

Comment by Get a Life | 2008-08-29 18:11:16

In the view of staunch conservatives, that pill is murder. Which is why they tried to block it from even coming up for a vote on the floor.

Pharmacists and doctors are now refusing to provide it. This is just the beginning of overturning my right to chose.

Comment by WildChild | 2008-08-29 18:16:29

When you say pharmacists and doctors are now refusing to provide it are you saying that all pharmacists and doctors are refusing to provide it, or is this just another tactic of your disinformation campaign?

Comment by dana b | 2008-08-29 18:37:26

Wildchild,
I could not get the morning after pill from Walmart pharmacies, because Walmart’s founder opposed it. That was few years ago. I don’t know if they’ve changed their policy since then.

Comment by seasiren | 2008-08-29 21:08:00

That is not the point. The last time I looked, I still have control over my life.

This is the same argument that people use when trying to say a hospital can refuse medical care. Is someone supposed to then drive around to find another one?

Comment by Get a Life | 2008-08-29 20:34:33

No I did not say all, but pro life opponents are trying to get this into the courts so activist judges can rule that they have the right not to provide or fill prescriptions.
Their claim is based on religion. If they can pick and chose what to prescibe and who to care for, where does this end? Can they then say they won’t care for patients of color? Or gay people? No disinformation campaign here. Just the facts. Go do the research like I did. Then come back and say I am making it up.

Or watch the Senate, you might learn something.

Comment by Pink Panther | 2008-08-29 20:41:53

You are making an issue where there is non.

Obama is making decisions about people based on race and you don’t say one word about that!

When the 2000 census revealed dramatic growth in Chicago’s Hispanic and Asian populations alongside a decline in the number of African Americans, the Illinois black caucus was alarmed at the prospect that the number of blacks in the Illinois General Assembly might decline. At that point, Obama stepped to the forefront of the effort to preserve as many black seats as possible.

The Chicago Defender quotes Obama as saying that,
“while everyone agrees that the Hispanic population has grown, they cannot expand by taking African-American seats.”

Obama is a sexist and you disregard that issue.

I don’t really care.

The behavior you saw in this primary is the root of rape, sexual harassment, domestic violence and hate crimes.

The Democratic party not only allowed rampant sexism and misogyny, but was a willing participant.

Just like when LBJ signed the 1964 Civil Rights Act, when McCain selected Sarah Palin as his VP, he made a courageous move that spoke to me as a woman. He acknowledged the struggles that many so called progressives are oblivious to.

The fact that you are here arguing about abortion demonstrates that.

You can deal with your uterus or penis, since men seem to have a stake in this, too. (Child support?) I know how to use contraception and stand up for myself. I refuse to be bullied with RvW.

Comment by Jimi | 2008-08-30 18:13:17

The same can be said for blantant racism and fear mongering against a supposed Muslim candidate.

Get a life–get a life. These wedge issues constantly being overhyped by right- and left-wing extremists are a disservice to the nation. We’ve got quite a few problems on our collective plates with which to deal and don’t need to be sidetracked by non-starter issues which don’t pass the “so what?” test

Comment by seasiren | 2008-08-29 21:15:00

I have a life, thanks. This is an issue. I am pro choice and will not apologize for it. My point was that if the repubs have their way, including Palin, women will no longer have the choice. McCain will put up judges that will overturn Roe v Wade. That is one of their stated platform goals. If you had read the entire thread you would have seen my point. This is not a wedge issue. This is a democrat vs repub issue. You think that appointing supreme court justices is a non starter? Think again. We have already seen evidence of who republicans will appoint to the bench. With three more due to retire, what kind of people will McCain nominate? Yeah this is really so non important.

Comment by WildChild | 2008-08-29 21:37:25

it’s a non issue if the democratic senate has a backbone.

(Comments wont nest below this level)

Comment by Terrin | 2008-08-30 00:05:03

That is a good point. Congress has the power to increase or decrease the number of Supreme Court justices. If they had a backbone, they could increase the number of justices. However, that would require a Democratic President to nominate favorable justices.

Don’t reduce women to one issue alone!

I don’t give a rats ass about Roe v Wade any more!!! My generation fought for choice, pay equity, recognition of domestic labor, universal health, family leave, etc.
And what did the next generation of women do? They disassociated themselves from feminism and their hard work, refused to recognize that sexism, misogyny and gender discrimination still exist (even refused to see it this primary season!), took for granted Title VII and Roe V Wade.

How many times have I heard young women (40 & under) say, “I’m not a feminist” or “feminism is dead” or “feminism is no longer necessary”?

If these women and their male cohorts want to preserve choice, then go ahead and do the hard work because my generation is tired of carrying water for their sorry asses!

Comment by Ferdberfle | 2008-08-29 18:23:28

Excellent rebuttal. Game, set, match.

Comment by Cincymom10 | 2008-08-29 18:24:28

Thank you for saying that! I have felt that way for a long time but never quite articulated it. I think there are many of us who know exactly where we were when Thomas was confirmed – I carried the water for women at work while I was young – taking their overtime because they had families to go home to. Now, guess what – no one is there for me. I watched as BO dissed my Hil – and how his inexperience trumped her wisdom and life experience. I am a lifelong Democrat and – for the first time in my life – I am seriously considering switching parties.

Comment by Jackie | 2008-09-01 03:46:55

Don’t switch parties for God’s sake take the DNC back. It needs to be the party of something other than “not them”. Once it was a progressive good for the people organization. Vote for McCain Palin and then be prepared to make your voice heard and DEMAND good laws for the health and well being of all citizens.

Comment by Jules | 2008-08-29 20:53:26

I am slightly under 40 and in my opinion, going out and defining yourself a feminist makes it harder to get equal treatment in a certain way. I was a real hard ass for awhile in my 20’s. But it separates you in a way that I personally don’t think is productive. And people want to get away from you! I feel it actually prevents the process of acceptance and integration and equal treatment which is really the goal. Plus you are always looking for slights when they may not exist. If they really do exist I wouldn’t tolerate it for a moment, but you can’t be on constant lookout for slights. If you want something you TAKE it based on your merits and performance. Similarly, I feel that African Americans would be better off using this approach as well. There are plenty of people in this world that are not sexist or racist and you don’t need to focus on the ones that are. Times HAVE truly changed. I don’t like to dwell in the past. There is a huge change for the better in racial and gender perceptions within the younger generations. Not giving others credit where credit is due actually reinforces sexism and racism.

Comment by Jimi | 2008-08-30 18:07:32

Waaa..so you are tired fighting the hard battles such as feminism. Try fighting against Totalitarianism and Fascism. Those are real fights being fought right now by people that want to seize absolute control for corporations. This will mean that noone has power except for multinational corporations that can :

- outsource all labor to cheap places without any labor laws ( say hello to more exploitation of women in third world countries
- no whistle blower laws that protect consumers ( SCOTUS is teetering on reversing ALL of the gains made in regard to this )
- Tell you that you can’t get health care because you had a small pallup removed .

These issues are bigger than whether a woman is elected this time. A woman president is going to happen soon, but our country won’t be worth living in when that time comes if you vote republican.

Comment by LindaA1 | 2008-08-29 19:05:06

Oh cry wolfe -

Nobody is going to overturn Roe vs Wade. It takes an approval of the majority of the Senate to confirm a justice. Do you really believe a Senate with a strong democratic majority (some say as high as 60/40) is going to allow McCain to get a conservative bent on overturning Roe on the court?

If the Senators loss their minds and committ political suicide and do that, then it’s not McCain or the GOP or Palin who will overturn Roe, it will be Senate Democrats who no longer value their political careers.

Shove the fear tactics on Roe. It’s so disingenuous.

Comment by TeakwoodKite | 2008-08-29 20:52:26

Did Biden vote for Clarence Thomas? I don’t recall.

Comment by seasiren | 2008-08-29 21:29:43

No Biden did not vote for Thomas, Bork or Roberts. For that matter, he did not support Rehnquist either. He did vote for Scallia and regrets that now.

Comment by seasiren | 2008-08-29 21:26:37

This is not a fear tactic, it is a fact. When some of you vote for McCain remember where he stands on issues. He is determined to see conservative activists judges, which is what we will get in the supreme court. There is no guarantee that that the Senate or the house will be overwhelmingly democratic. I am not willing to take that chance. That is just the tip of the iceberg with McCain and I will not be a party to the titanic sinking. We have had that for 8 years.

No way. No how. No McCain.

Hilary was my only choice. Trying to justify a bait and switch to vote for McCain is ludicrous and cannot be justified.

I wish I could understand the point of view of so many women on this topic. I’ve tried for years… in fact, nearly all my life. A couple of years ago, I saw Whoopy Goldberg at a women s rights rally hold up a coat hangar and state that at some point in near history, that coat hangar had been the only choice. I wondered about the same thing that has made me wonder for decades: What if that really was the “choice”? I’ve been on this earth for 39 years because someone loved me enough to allow me to be adopted and didn’t decide to kill me. I love my family. I love my life. I love my country. I make a difference and I count to those around me every day. I can’t find a way to understand this issue.

McCain and the GOP care nothing for families ,women or children unless they have a net worth over $5 mil which he defines as being beyond the middle class .. please take a look at the last 8 yrs for a litany of policies that benefited no one but the super rich ..how much support for families and women do you think there would be id the bush administration had not poured 1.5 trillion dollars down the rat hole of Iraq ? and thats only the tip of the iceberg ..so go on and be proud about a woman being nominated for VP but remember it is nothing but a cynical manipulative GOP move which i hope you are able to easily see through . McCain voted for Bush’s policies 95 % of the time ..this is the “change “you want .. jh

I think the cynical candidate is Obama—no resume to speak of, no interest in even presiding over his current Senate committees, no grasp of what it means to be a true Democrat. The Clintons even had to outline for him core Dem principles and the Party platform!
All Obama has is the platitudes of hope and change! So much for the Neo-liberal platform and for the Obama’s Pod Dem Party!

He was editor of the Harvard Law Review ; first black person ever at that position

After school he went back to volunteer and help inner city Chicago and taught law. He could have easily taken a 7 figure a year salary , but instead decided to help out his community.

These ain’t exactly values of someone looking out for himself first.

For those republican talking heads who insist this garbage about Senator Obama doing nothing in the US Senate, here are a few. If you want to know what he’s done in the Illinois Senate, there are over 800 Bills.I’ll list them separately.

Obama does have experience running something – HIS MOUTH! Maybe we ought to hang it up and vote for McCain/Palin…it occurred to me that those 2 are independent and both may not be all that conservative and may just be lip-synching it to their right wing. What do we have to lose? We may be pleasantly surprised that it’s not that bad after all. On the other hand, does anyone really believe Obama will be a good president? A bad Obama presidency will get him run out of office and we get 100 years of Republicans from angry voters in the whole country after an Obama mess after that. Or a bad McCain 4 years can put HRC into the White House and McCain to get the blame for the post-Bush mess. What’s better? Or worse?

Comment by Hope Floats | 2008-08-30 01:54:18

Suppose he pulls a Bush and starts a war to stay in office?

Yeah come to think of it, I’ve run things too. When I was 15 I worked at Marine World Africa USA, I ran a snack hut. I also ran a lemonade stand. I was assistent manager at a hobby and craft store. Now I run a product team of about 15 people. I never realized how much executive experience that I have. I’m way more qualified to run the country than Barak Obama and Joe Biden. I’m an executive!

Palin in her convention speech:

“Some will say I am inexperienced, but I could not ask for a better running mate to expose me to the depths of sacrifice required for a life in public service. And unlike our opponents, I will be will be looking up to the President, not the other way around!”

A roar erupts from the crowd as the delegates leap to their feet and all those watching at home know this woman is right. Joe Biden, not Barack Obama, is ready to President. Unfortunately, he isn’t running for that position.

Comment by Undercover Black Man | 2008-08-29 10:56:28

So, Joe… you’re saying Sarah Palin is ready to be president?

Comment by StrawberrybitesBarky | 2008-08-29 11:01:51

No you idiot, she’s ready to be VP. And that ‘looking up to the president’ line…holy crap, whiz bang…Biden had better be on his toes or she will hand him his balls. After he gets them back from Barky, that is.

Comment by Undercover Black Man | 2008-08-29 11:40:33

So, Strawb… McCain’s most important decision to date — the choice of who would replace him as president of the United States if he were incapacitated — and he picks a woman who (you acknowledge) is not ready to fill that role.

Obama picked Joe Biden.

Game, set, Obama.

Comment by Hope Floats | 2008-08-29 11:55:23

Less than 1% of Democrats thought Joe Biden would make a good President a few months ago, so I don’t see why you think he’s such a great VP. Face it, he is there to make Obama look more experienced, because Biden actualy did something with the Senate Foreign Affairs European Subcommittee when he chaired it. Obama skipped three meetings about Afghanistan and never held a meeting with the North Atlantic allies, and he *did* have NATO oversight.

Comment by Rico | 2008-08-29 16:40:05

Er, that’s not true. Just because only 1% voted for him doesn’t mean they are the only ones who “thought Joe Biden would make a good president”. It just means the other 99% thought someone else would make a better one…or that someone else had a chance of winning the nomination. Of oourse, you knew that, didn’t you?

That’s like saying 50% of democrats thought Hillary would be a crappy president, which is untrue, too. They just thought Obama would be incrementally better. The fact is, there are lot of strong candidates, and we can only vote for one.

For the record, McCain’s choice was a masterstroke, and it is precisely why Biden was a mistake. Obama had a chance to put any number of strong women on his ticket and picking Biden opened himself up to this strategem.

Sure, she’s pro-life and an evangelical, but she’s also an ethics hawk, and willing to criticize her own party. I’m excited.

Comment by TeakwoodKite | 2008-08-29 21:15:43

incrementally better

You ignore the fact that it was not a question “of the people” in the Dem party, it’s a select few that decided the outcome of this Dem primary out of a combine, call it 36 million votes, it came down the cohersion of several hundred party hacks.

Hope has never put food on my family’s table. Some where in our history we had to hunt for it ourselves or perish.

Been there done that.

Your idiocy is exposed like a true Obama-tron.

Keep on with your stupidity, sexism, and hypocrisy – you’re digging your grave deeper and deeper.

Now every misogynistic thing that is uttered in this election will be grist for the mill, fuel to energize McCain’s campaign and his massive female base.

If we knew a good racist joke, we’d put one here.

Absent that, stick it.

You didn’t learn anything, did you? This kind of remark is exactly what has the Democratic Party divided and 25% of Hillary’s supporters ready to vote for McCain. You know nothing about this woman but you are attacking on the basis of gender. Whether or not I agree with his policies, this was brilliant and my respect for him has risen exponentially. I always thought it would be a Democrat to finally have the guts to do this, but I think McCain can actually pull this off. If you want to attack this woman, find out more about her and judge her on what she has done with her life. The Dem party is beginning to look very unfriendly to women.

Actually, the Republicans have succeeded in defining their message. Government reform and national security will be what McCain and Palin keep talking about.

Hope and Change is depressing. It means times are bleak and call for desperate measures like electing Smug and Plugs.

When Sarah Palin spoke to the crowd at Dayton, OH today, she told them exactly what she’s done and will do. They were proud of their country and optimistic.

Big difference between confidence and arrogance and hope and optimism.

The beauty of that comment is that McCain and Palin won’t be butting heads constantly. We had that problem with Bush/Cheney and it caused a lot of problems that affected the efficiency of the presidency.

If McCain got shot six months into the job, Palin would be in hot water, However, there are always hundreds of administrative assistants, cabinet members, etc, on whose advice and experience the presidents always rely. No matter who you are and how many offices/jobs you have previously held, there is always a learning curve. Palin seems very acute. I think she would survive with flying colors.

Honestly, I am less concerned with the improbability of Palin with all her “inexperience” being president than I am with Obama and all of his “experience”.

What I find incredibly sexist and demeaning is the trivalization of Palin experience. Let’s not forget when Hillary ran for the senate we heard the same sexist comments about her qualifications. It was the same nonsense about her role and first lady and “housewife” and how all she did was “stand by the side” of her husband. So I guess her legal career did not matter, nor her board of director experience, or her congressional hearings on healthcare reform. Despite all the blatent sexism she won her senate position despite all her inexperience.

Palin faces the same sexist statements that mention her “lack of experience” What I find interesting is how no one questions how Obama will “juggle his responsibilities” as a father while at the same time holding office?

That view is so sexist as it intends to convey an image of a “neurotic woman” trying to shuttle the “litter” around and still manage to do her job!

Is this as far as we have come?

Obama picked Joe — the Potus Candidate who got the LEAST votes.

The guy who pushed the new Bankruptcy bill through Congress because it favors his buddies in the credit card industry. A Bill that has led to PREDATORY LENDING.

The same Joe whose son is a big time Washington lobbyist.

And let’s review Obama’s tendency to BREAK HIS PROMISES:

He voted for FISA after he swore he filibuster.

He voted FOR the BUSH CHENEY Energy bill and has gladly taken OIL INDUSTRY Bundler Donations after he swore he wouldn’t.

He broke his promise on campaign finance reform after he swore he would do the right thing.

Obama has a track record for breaking promises. I don’t believe any of his promises.

So, Palin who has more experience than Obama is not ready to be President, then that means that Obama is not ready to be President. Game, set and match to Obama follower.

Obama kinda had to pick Biden, now didn’t he…because he has even less experience than Palin. Palin, though certainly not a heavy weight in the experience department still has more than Obama. She is a governor. He is a senator. Governors are more powerful than Senators. Governors are executive. Senators are legislative. Governor trumps Senator. So what if she was only a mayor before, he was only a community organizer, whatever that is. It is extremely rare for a senator to be elected president without serving in another office first, such as VP. Governors or VP’s are usually elected. No doubt we’ll have a senator this year.

This is the person who will become President when McCain croaks? OMG what a doddering fool!

Someone who has no experience?

They think Hilary supporters will vote for her because she is a woman and has a family?

Think again! What a joke!

Comment by Steve | 2008-08-29 12:34:51

Palin has more executive experience than all three guys put together. She ran a city and she ran a state. Alaska borders on Canada and is close to Russia. While Biden is an expert on foreign policy Washington style, she knows about foreign relation as the bread and butter of her job.

Biden is a 30-year veteran of Washington, she is a fresh face. Tell me, who is now standing for the “same tired old Washington way”?

A Republican picking a female running mate. How conservative is that?
She is a babe and the lack of national name recognition will be history this time tomorrow. Obama would be historic? A female Veep does not look that conventional to me.

Comment by Get a Life | 2008-08-29 13:05:24

Comment by Brendy | 2008-08-29 17:02:01

‘a babe’? All you female voters out there – did you hear this insult?

I bet that ‘babe’ could run circles around Obummer and Biden together! Just wait until this lady’s accomplishments and record is made public – just wait until ALL of America has heard about Palin. That is, of course, if Obummer’s love-fest media will ‘allow’ it. The media is SO in the tank for Obummer I’m sure they’ll try to squelsh all the good qualities and/or experience she TRULY has!

I love your point. To take it one degree farther; no where in the Constitution does it mandate that the President graduate from an Ivy League College. Perhaps it is time that we get a fresh perspective. Unlike Joe, Barak and even McCain she understands the needs of working class people. Child care, medical care for special needs children, and the aggrivation of watching a government that fails to serve the people. She chose to act against corruption on behalf of the people instead of turning a blind eye and going along with the crowd.

Oh I beg you, BEG YOU, to post a factual list of what Obama has done to prove he is more experienced than Palin. BEG YOU!!! I have never heard even one accomplishment. Seriously. Even Bill and Hillary couldn’t think of one at the convention to name. They sure sidestepped that issue. I guess he’s just “the one” because he is so “special”. How can you support someone who began his political career in the home of a convicted terrorist, Bill Ayers (research it!). Ayers set off bombs at the Pentagon and the Capitol and said his only regret is not setting off more bombs. “God Damn America” indeed. You Obama supporters have blinders on. God help you idiots. Oh I forgot, we are supposed to overlook EVERYTHING he does because he is black. Associating with American terrorists who have been to jail…oh who cares, right? He’s black. That makes it ok.

Comment by Jackie | 2008-09-01 04:16:00

Did you notice that there was no one from Baraks past except his wife at the convention?

Kerry had 12 commrads from his days in the Navy to vouch for him. Al Gore had oodles of people telling us what a fine man he is.

Not one speaker in Denver said that they had faith in the man Barak Obama.
Barak stands alone as the sole representative of his life story and this should tell us all something.

No. McCain is. Just like (from an experience standpoint) Biden is. But Biden is running for VP, and the inexperienced guy is running for POTUS.

When I see BHO and JB on stage together, it doesn’t look right. That ticket should be flipped, and I think a lot of people perceive it the same way I do.

And, if she isn’t ready, then why is BHO? She has more executive experience than anyone else in the race (even if it is only two years). She also knows what hard work is like, having lived in Alaska and helped with her husband’s commercial fishing business. Trust me, after a few weeks of getting to know her, people will be more comfortable with her running the ship than BHO.

Comment by Undercover Black Man | 2008-08-29 11:50:24

And, if she isn’t ready, then why is BHO?

Because Obama put himself before the Democrats of America for the past two years and they decided he was ready.

And if you watched his speech last night, you can see why.

It’s not about resumes. It’s about getting out there and competing and winning.

And talk about optics… Sarah Palin looks like McCain’s daughter.

Comment by joe | 2008-08-29 11:56:28

Did you twist yourself into a pretzel with that logic? That was one of the most absurd things I have ever heard. If its not about resumes, then how is she not ready? Just because he has a good campaign team that can bamboozle the people, he is ready to be President? Just because he raised more money than the next guy, he is ready to be President?

I swear, logic and reason have no place in an Obots mind. As long as they can justify it to themselves, that is all that matters. Grow up kid!!

Comment by Get a Life | 2008-08-29 12:08:09

I for one am not a kid. I am a Hilary supporter. McCain just did the most stupid thing he could have done. Everyone talks about Obama’s inexperience? Oh please. Now we have two of them. Our political system is a joke.
Talk about pandering. Wasn’t it McCain who has been blabbing about experience? Then he goes and picks a VP who was a pundit and has 1 1/2 years experience running a state? Never will I vote for Obama or McCain. They can both jump in a lake!

Comment by joe | 2008-08-29 12:28:34

I wasn’t responding to your post. I was responding to undercover whatever he is. Sorry about the confusion.

I have been researching for Palin for a few months and I was hoping he would pick her. She is experienced. Executive experience is ten times more important than legislative experience. As an executive, you make the decisions. You balance the budget. You sign the orders, and you direct your staff. you can not get out of bad decisions by voting present or not showing up for a vote. As an executive, it all falls on you. So her two years, times 10, is roughly comparable to 20 years of legislative experience.

I wanted Hillary to win the nomination so badly, and was really disappointed when she didn’t. So when McCain announced Palin as his running mate, I was thrilled.

But then I thought about it–if McCain really wanted to woo me as a voter, he should have picked someone like Republican Senator Olympia Snowe, who’s much more experienced than Obama AND who represents the same ideals that Hillary fights for.

Also, Palin may have “honored” Hillary by referring to HRC in her speech, but Palin couldn’t be more different from HRC. She’s pro-life, opposes same-sex marriage (she signed a bill implementing same-sex benefits into law but said she did so only because the law required her to), she’s a member of the NRA and an avid hunter, and she doesn’t believe that global warming and climate change are man-made.

Yes, Obama betrayed us. He betrayed Hillary. But is that enough to vote for someone who stands for everything that Hillary is against?

Comment by notjoking | 2008-08-30 00:44:07

Very classy indeed. Do you know why Palin couldn’t bring herself to support another woman for president? Because she didn’t like Clinton’s “whining” (http://www.newsweek.com/id/156190).

Everyone on this blog seems very angry, which is appropriate since you’re all going to vote for Mr. Temper McCain even though he voted against things like equal pay for equal work (http://voices.washingtonpost.com/fact-checker/2008/07/mccain_on_equal_pay.html).

Back in April, McCain told reporters that he was “all in favor of equal pay” for women, but that there were better ways to help women find higher paying jobs. “They need the education and training, particularly since more and more women are heads of their households,” he explained.

See? McCain already knows what’s best for women. Oh, unless what’s best for women is being able to sue their employer for age discrimination.

Good campaign team reflects very well on Obama’s managerial competence.

Record-setting fundraising reflects very well on Obama’s ability to inspire people… and therefore to lead them.

You know, Joe, there’s a reason there is such a thing as “job interviews”… and that you don’t hire employees based on just looking at the resume, without ever taking the person’s measure with your own eyes.

Obama has been on the “job interview” of his life for the past two years. If he can convince enough people to look past the holes in his resume, he will have earned the job.

Comment by alexei | 2008-08-29 15:03:28

I think you protest too much. Obama ran a corrupt, negative campaign employing the race card and cheating big time in the caucuses. He lost every big state but his own and he lost the popular vote. His fundraising is very suspect with proven money coming from overseas (illegal). Hillary cleaned his clock even when she was being outspent 2, 3, 4 and sometimes 5 to 1.

He is losing his core group of young people because they are not inspired – they are disillusioned by the flip flops and backtracking.

The Democratic party bosses decided Obama was ready but more importantly that Clinton was out of fashion. That’s how the decision was made, not by elected delegates since neither Clinton nor Obama reached the required total. Not by popular vote. Not by a floor fight at the convention. Not by a fair ruling from the RBC committee. Obama received four of Hillary’s delegates and 55 from people who never voted for him, since he cynically withdrew his name from the ballot. Obama was selected. His speech last night borrowed heavily from Clintons’ (both of them), because they are REAL Democrats. He gave a boring speech about the party platform, but he delivered it well and is a historic candidate, so he gets points for that. But he did not defeat Clinton fairly, and the convention underlined that.

Now here you are making patronizing and sexist comments about the woman John McCain put on his ticket. Did you think it was racist when the Republican state Representative Geoff Davis of Kentucky called Obama “boy”? More double standards from the Democrats.

Comment by Rocky Mountain High | 2008-08-29 13:54:25

Obama was ’selected’ by the DNC not ‘elected’. They manipulated the votes, the caucuses and the delegates. They used the Clintons but dishonored Hillary and all her supporters. For that the Dems deserve to lose the GE. Besides, the McCain/Palin ticket is hot! That’s change we can believe it!

Get this straight. The Democratic party this year showed it is against DEMOCRACY with a big D followed by all caps. This principle is so fundamental to this country that all others are null and void unless it is met.

Five states broke rule 11a, and two were punished with draconian measures.

Unconstitutional measures.

You cannot deprive people of the right to vote in the US. Even in primaries.

Done. Once those rights become negotiable, all rights are. Fuck abortions and equal pay and everything else at that point.

Good night and good luck.

Then again BO has 0 problems running off the hard work of other’s does he? 25 bills other senators worked on, wrote just handed to him and he had 0 problem taking credit for the work. Too bad they didn’t appreciate it and went to the media.

The abestos in Chicago 0 problems taking credit for all the work right out from under a woman that fought her whole life for. When he came in at the end, just in time to get his name added to the list.

Campaigning in 2006 for a man that’s accused of Genocide, still has never addressed that one. Etc…etc.

The people elected him? Caucuses elected him and we won’t even talk about the 10s of thousands of complaints to voters offices around the country, accusing threats, intimidation. The AAs standing outside of the caucuses telling Hillary voters the caucus has been moved. Or that, “If they’re not voting for Obama you’re not voting here!” making elderly people go back home. I could go on all day with the problems of what you said I won’t. I’m TOO HAPPY TODAY.

Palin has MUCH more experience than BO without all the corruption. Questionable ties. The Racist Religion. How’s that FISA going for you? NAFTA? And don’t say McCain supports them. City Counsil, Mayor, Ethic Commisioner, Governor…

Your turn to show us how much more experience OB has. Senator who’s done nothing. Please don’t use any of the 25 bills handed to him. Or we’ll have to counter with his 6 oops votes when he couldn’t tell the difference between two big buttons. One that says yes, and one that says No, but you want his finger on the most important button.

Or maybe we can talk about those present votes. You know the ones that did indeed impact the people’s lives. Like when he voted to give illegal men who commit rape, crimes against children, stalking the right to become citizens of this country. Felt they didn’t need to be punished.

Or how he voted to give time off for good behavior against men that committed rape. Or how about how he voted against protecting children against porn sites, felt there was no need to put software on schools computers that protect children.

Or how about how he held up in committee for two years the Born ALIVE infant act. You know it’s where those unwanted children actually survive their late term abortion. They’re ALIVE and breathing. He wanted to just shelve them in a linen closet until they died. How long does it take an infant that doesn’t need oxygen born a premie to starve to death? Let’s ask Obama, what was it he said again? Oh that’s right! “Infants who SURVIVE their abortions are not afforded the same constitutional protection as everyone else is.”

Then we’ll go back and look at Chicago before Obama and what his neighborhoods look like now, he’s running for President not her. Once you’re done giving us all his wonderful experience, let’s go back and look at both Palin and Obama’s districts. He had one district to run, she had an entire state and let’s look at their actual accomplishments…With such accomplishments as below.

Palin served two terms on the Wasilla City Council from 1992 to 1996.

In 1996, she challenged and defeated the incumbent mayor, criticizing wasteful spending and high taxes.

Palin kept her campaign promises by reducing her own salary, as well as reducing property taxes by 60%. She ran for reelection against the former mayor in 1999, winning by an even larger margin.

Palin was also elected president of the Alaska Conference of Mayors.

Governor Murkowski appointed Palin Ethics Commissioner of the Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission, where she served from 2003 to 2004 until resigning in protest over what she called the “lack of ethics” of fellow Alaskan Republican leaders, who ignored her whistleblowing complaints of legal violations and conflicts of interest. After she resigned, she exposed the state Republican Party’s chairman, Randy Ruedrich, one of her fellow Oil & Gas commissioners, who was accused of doing work for the party on public time, and supplying a lobbyist with a sensitive e-mail. Palin filed formal complaints against both Ruedrich and former Alaska Attorney General Gregg Renkes, who both resigned; Ruedrich paid a record $12,000 fine.

In 2006, Palin, running on a clean-government campaign, executed an upset victory over then-Gov. Murkowski in the Republican gubernatorial primary. Despite the lack of support from party leaders and being outspent by her Democratic opponent, she went on to win the general election in November 2006, defeating former Governor Tony Knowles. Palin said in 2006 that education, public safety, and transportation would be three cornerstones of her administration.

Sarah Palin-

“Barack Obam says I have “ZERO” experience.

Well, let’s examine that, shall we?

How many businesses has Barack Obama owned and run? ZERO

How many cities did Barack Obama govern? ZERO

How many states has Barack Obama governed? ZERO

How many children has Barack Obama given birth to and raised while running anything? ZERO

Speaking of which, how many things has Barack Obama successfully run at all? ZERO

How many hearings on Afghanistan did Barack Obama convene? ZERO

How much “CHANGE” did Barack Obama deliver while running the Annenberg Challenge with Bill Ayers? ZERO

Now that is what I call “ZERO experience. Where I come from we do not call that HOPE we call it HYPE…because it is nothing but hypocrisy.”

Alyssa, she has more executive experience than Obama. Moreover, she is really for government integrity. She could have chosen to be part of the “Alaskan politics” but distanced herself from two senior Republican office-holders, sen. Ted Stevens and Rep. Don young. Both men are under federal corruption investigations.

You should be proud of your peer, Alyssa. Very unlike your candidate who needs the backing of the Chicago politicians.

Come on, wake up already and stop fanticizing about Obama.

This is exciting. She was supposedly a superstar of her college debate team. They called her “Barricuda Sarah.” She handles herself well in interviews, but she can come off as ditzy sometimes.

I’m worried that with her relative inexperience, it will seem she was picked as a token female and will be viewed as arm candy.

The upside is that Clyburn has already whined which looks like McCain scored a direct hit! This could be a year where women voters are energetically courted and taken seriously. Congratulations, PUMAs!

Comment by GetOverIt | 2008-08-29 11:05:19

it would be a good time for her to find out what the VP actually does…LOL…

Larry Kudlow of CNBC’s “Kudlow & Co.” asked her about the possibility of becoming McCain ticket mate.
Palin replied: “[A]s for that V.P. talk all the time, I’ll tell you, I still can’t answer that question until somebody answers for me what is it exactly that the V.P. does every day? I’m used to being very productive and working real hard in an administration. We want to make sure that that V.P .slot would be a fruitful type of position, especially for Alaskans and for the things that we’re trying to accomplish up here for the rest of the U.S., before I can even start addressing that question.”

Then there is that pesky investigation regarding abuse of power and her “creationism” background.

That’s not change I can believe in, my friends…

She is facing an investigation regarding her sisters ex husband. Oh and let’s not forget the great Senator form Alaska Ted Stevens.

What this shows is John McCains lack of judgement. This was wholly a pick to pander to Clinton supporters who are still pissed off. They think they can bring woman over to vote. She is no Hilary Clinton and never will be.

I love Hillary, but she is not in this race any longer, and as a Lifelong Democrat, I felt like my teeth had been kicked in during this Election…I never wanted to see my party go low…in today’s world I guess I am becoming Conservative, I don’t want my kids to hear the stuff that’s on their favorite stations, I don’t want my daughters to swing on a poll, and I don’t need to work hard and see my husband work hard in our blue collar jobs to see celebrities influence us on how to vote when we are America! We are the people who get up and work hard every day and it’s time that we take back this election and push the Middle class Agenda. I RESPECT John McCain for all of his years of service to this country and I thank him for choosing a VP who can offer a different view point in a way that no man could ever do. Awesome choice!

Another telling comparison: Joe Biden’s son is in Washington, serving special interests as a lobbyist. Sarah Palin’s son is in the Army, serving his country. And he’s heading to Iraq on Sept 11.

Actions speak louder than words. The One and his blowhard sidekick are toast in November.

Joe’s son Beau is heading to Iraq in Oct as well. He is currently the Attorney General of Delaware, which last time I looked is not in Washington or a lobbying group.

Where do you come up with this garbage? Their sons will probably serve together. Get your facts straight man.

Now you can see why people don’t believe half the garbage on this site about Obama? No facts and no sourcing. I heard it or read it somewhere does not make it so.

I am still waiting for the whitey tape.

Do your homework and have some respect for a man who lost his wife and child and still decided to serve this country with honor and raise a family at the same time, He did a good job. Please, please go beyond the fact that Hillary is not on the ticket. Senator Clinton seems to have accepted is gracefully and with humor. She is indeed one magnificent representative of women in America. However, Gov. Palin would trounce on a woman’s right to choose, universal healthcare, the environment, and everything that Hillary Rodham Clinton stands for. Gov. Palin is no substitute for Clinton and we must get Democrats elected as our leaders or we will loose all the ground Hillary has made. Hillary will be a part of the Obama administration as an advisor, and hopefully a Cabinet member. She’s great, has so much to offer… Do not do her the disservice of endorsing the McCain/Palin ticket.

She is under investigation for ethics violation as we speak (and as she runs), does not have the street creds of Clinton or Obama. Check out the sources and you will be amazed at what her stand is on issues important to women.

Comment by Jimi | 2008-08-30 18:45:09

Hillary IS an amazing woman and has stated time and again that she supports Obama.

She would be a great nomination to the supreme court or a great presidential candidate in 8 years as well. PLease don’t consider voting for a Neocon (and lose the war) just because Hillary lost a battle.

She will be reborn like the Phoenix and continue to great things with the Obama administration.

McCain already showed his lack of judgment by voting with Bush 90%. Now he’s selected a city counselor to be his running mate. Obama was gaining REAL executive experience running a very successful multi-million dollar national campaign against the Clinton machine the whole time she was governor of tiny (pop) Alaska.

Comment by hmpierson | 2008-08-30 12:46:59

katmandu says “her wikipedia entry is sterling”

Really? In office less than 20 months, she already has two major abuse of power issues.

In addition to Troopergate (reminiscent of the Nixon Saturday Night Massacre, firing a public servant who would not carry out her personal vendetta), she replaced an entire board because she had an ill-conceived agenda to reverse a well made policy agenda.

“When on June 6, 2007, the Alaska Creamery Board recommended closing Matanuska Maid Dairy, an unprofitable state-owned business, Palin objected, citing concern for the impact on dairy farmers and the fact that the dairy had just received $600,000 in state money. When Palin found out that the Board of Agriculture and Conservation appoints Creamery Board members, she replaced the entire membership of the Board of Agriculture and Conservation.[25][54] The new board reversed the decision to close the dairy, but later in 2007, with Palin’s support, the unprofitable business was put up for sale. There were no offers in December 2007, when the minimum bid was set at $3.35 million,[55][56] and the dairy was closed that month. In August 2008, the Anchorage plant was purchased for $1.5 million, the new minimum bid; the purchaser plans to convert it into heated storage units.[57]”

Additionally, if 8 years of McCain is followed by 8 years of Palin, you’ll have 9 clones of Clarence Thomas on the Supreme Court, and Roe v Wade will be overturned.

This will satisfy all the pro-Hillary dead-enders?

Comment by Jimi | 2008-08-30 18:41:33

McSame was in the bottom 5 people to graduate from the Naval academy.

He has repeatedly misunderstood the differences between Shi’ite and Suni sects in Iraq and in Iran.

The fact of the matter is that with McSame you get an unhinged Neocon who wants to
1. keep the war alive that runs up 15 billion dollars a month in debt
2. Look to invade Iran which will add even more debt.
3. Roll back Habeus Corpus for ANY enemy combatant foreign or domestic ( which could mean any americans detained for even a possible involvement with a crime )
4. Won’t investigate Bush and Cheney for lying us into a war in Iraq, the Valerie Plame outing, the illegal Cheney energy taskforce , Illegal spying and wiretapping.

The danger that Mcsame brings to this country far outweighs any potential gain that having a window dressing VP could bring ( meaning VPs generally don’t contribute that much to the presidency , Cheney aside ).

Comment by pburns | 2008-08-30 20:13:31

“her wikipedia entry is sterling”

Except for the ethics investigation.

And it doesn’t mention the fact that the state she has been governing for a mere two years has fewer than 700,000 inhabitants.

Furthermore, until very recently she seems to have been uncertain as to what a vice president does.

I ain’t impressed. There are more experienced Republican women out there.

McCain was only partly pandering to Hillary supporters: he needed someone with major conservative credentials to bring him closer to different factions in his party.

“Sarah Palin, a libertarian and hockey mom from the fast-growing suburbs of Anchorage, began her political career — as an appointed member of the state’s Oil and Gas Commission — by hacking into the computer of another commissioner, Randy Ruedrich, chairman of the Alaska Republican Party.”

Also I can’t believe you rely on publicly editable source for facts.

Comment by hmpierson | 2008-08-31 00:20:24

Her Wikipedia entry is “Sterling”? It’s better after 30 changes made to sanitize it in the last 2 days. But she’s still a small town mayor who has been governor of a state with a smaller population than Memphis TN, for less than 20 months.

As for McCain, that great champion of women:

“Why is Chelsea Clinton so ugly?
Because her father is Janet Reno.”

Now who would make such an ugly “joke?” Obama? A surrogate?

No, it was your hero, John McCain. You can do a google search, or just go to:

http://www.salon.com/news/1998/06/25newsb.html

But why should that be a surprise? McCain frequently drops the C-bomb on his wife in public.

So all of you who are SO offended about that misogynist Obama, go vote for that great pro-life champion of women, John McCain. He’ll be laughing at you all the way to the White House.

Exactly True Patriot,
It is Obama’s lack of accomplishment, his lack of having a record that proves he will do what he says he will do, and his willingness to embellish (putting it nicely) upon that record that paints him as the inexperienced candidate he is.

If Mrs Palin’s record appears thin, which I find as an incredible argument, the questions must be: What has she stood for and what has she gotten done in that time? Does she have a clear set of values from which she makes her judgments?

For starters, Sarah actually runs a state as governor of Alaska.

Obama -having served less than 150 days as a U.S. Senator and less than 365 days as an Illinois state senator – runs his mouth.

Most importantly, Sarah is running for VICE-PRESIDENT. Obama is running for PRESIDENT. So stop trying to compare him with her. Had Sarah been running for PRESIDENT, she would have been underqualified – like Obama is.

Sarah will gain far more experience being vice-president when John McCain takes office in January.

Excellent choice for McCain. Neither Obama nor Biden will be able to handle someone with a governor’s experience.

The VP questions are not going to be about foreign policy, they are going to be about the home front and governance.

This leaves Obama completely alone to have to fight the foreign policy credentials of McCain. And that is the way it should be. The President makes the foreign policy decisions/direction, not the VP.

No more tickets where the Presdient has to have a baby sitter a la Bush/Cheney..Soetoro/Biden.

Biden doesn’t run that state. He is a senator. Sarah Palin has the executive experience of running first a city and then a state. Incidentally, she has a very high approval rating in her current position-that is also quite an accomplishment.

Honest discourse regarding the respective VP candidates requires a little more research than state population numbers.

VMorris is correct. Obama’s New Democratic Party members are bitter because now the world will discover that it is they who are racist, sexist and misogynist.

Are you kidding me? Even Greg Valliere, well-known Republican and business advocate, was saying on CNBC you can’t begin to compare Palin to Obama, she totally lacks “gravitas” in his words.

McCain reaches into the ‘Icebox’ and pulls out Palin
By LoRayne Apo-Joynt 8/29/08 10:12 AM

Multiple media outlets are confirming that Gov. Sarah Palin of Alaska has been selected as the vice presidential candidate for the GOP ticket.

Palin is a first term governor, having only served since 2006; she’s also a self-described “hockey mom” and a mother of five, extremely pro-life and a proponent of Big Oil. You’re sure to hear more soon about her experience, although there won’t be much to report. The choice of a political figure from Alaska seems odd, as it will draw attention to that state’s “Icebox of Corruption”, what with the investigations into Ted Stevens and family as well as other Alaskan pols.

From the outside, it appears as if conservatives may be in shock, if CNBC’s analysts opinions are an indication.

“This is utter madness, absolutely insane,” said political analyst Greg Valliere, who then ran down McCain’s age and all of his health problems. “This woman makes Dan Quayle look reasonable.”

On the issue of a debate with Biden, Valliere said, “[the] stature gap is significant here.”

When asked about Valliere’s assessment, CNBC’s chief Washington correspondent John Harwood responds, “[it's] basically nightmare scenario for the Republican ticket.”

Stay tuned!

She has accomplished FAR more in her 2 years as governor of a state than Barry Soetoro has done as a first term U.S. Senator or even as an Illinois state senator.

Comment by jwrjr | 2008-08-29 10:40:42

Be fair – Soetoro only has 143 days experience in the Senate. (/snark) Of course he hasn’t achieved anything. He was too busy running for Emperor.

You people need to go research what you are talking about. She has had less than 1 year and half, was a pundit on a talk show and comes from a corrupt state. Next. The inexperience debate is over. Now we have two inexperienced candidates to pick from. Leave in to the GOP. Calling him Barry does not make it so.

Comment by latina | 2008-08-29 13:05:49

If your contention about Palin is correct, which they aren’t, than you have to strike and foul Barry for POTUS, for some of the most corrupt politics and politicians come from Chigago, being Barry Hussein one of them, with one of the worst voting records a Junior Senator can achieve.

Your ignorance make me sad. Like you all Obamabots who only listen to your false prophet, this is my advice….. READ!!! Go to her story. Don’t let anybody brainwash Kool-Aid feed you. Then, you might then think outside the box, and see that there is a horizon not of empty chanting words, but of real people, better candidates with proven facts, and then come back and make a decent comment.

I am a Hilary suppoter not an Obama supporter. The ignorance here knows no bounds. I do think outside the box which is why I do not believe everything I read or am told to believe.

I look at the facts and source them. I make up my own mind. I am not on the Obama bandwagon nor do I follow group think when people try to tell me Obama is the devil rather than a human being.

The problem is the woman is not qualified which has been the main contention on this site regarding Obama. When the human brain starts hearing bad things about someone it is truly astonishing how the mob mentality sets in. This is known as group think. If you have ever learned critical thinking skills you would know what I am talking about.

I don’t spout hate as some of you do on this site. Rather I look at the issues and what is best for this country. Neither McCain or Obama has what it takes to bring this country back to what it once was.

We had a candidate who could do that and she caved to the DNC in favor of her political future. That is the saddest commentary of all.

You don’t know me. Have some respect for your fellow human beings. We all have something to add to the discussion. Life is not all anti Obama all the time.

Obama is only a one term Senator who has been running for president for the past two years and he is on the top of the ticket.

This may be a good move by McCain. If Obama or the media tries to attack McCain’s VP for inexperience they will finally have to take Obama to task for lack of experience at the top of the ticket. Obama is not prepared to lead and he will be exposed.

Comment by Obama is a bum | 2008-08-29 11:22:27

The Obama media is already attacking Sarah — she is inexperienced, if McCain were really a maverick he would have picked Liberman not Palin, etc.

I think McCain played rope-a-dope with Obama. He waited for Obama to thumb his nose at the woman he stole the election from and then McCain picks a woman.

Comment by Get a Life | 2008-08-29 12:21:50

Rope a dope? What a joke. I may just have to vote for Barky now. At least with Joe you get experience. Sarah is inexperienced. What a joke. Obama’s going up again in the poles I fear after this bone headed move.

Comment by Hope floats | 2008-08-29 12:59:14

Joe Lieberman has already been on a national ticket, and it didn’t help. That’s not change.

McCain doesn’t need experience, either. If Obama can run for President, then Palin will do great as VP. Lieberman would have infuriated the base.

Sounds like you were going to vote for Barky, anyway. So, do it. You’ll still lose.

Comment by tiberius | 2008-08-29 13:12:58

A person with absolutely no foreign policy or national defense experience, a single heartbeat away from taking command? When the president would be a 72-year-old male with a history of serious health problems and a Type-A personality?

Anyone who thinks this is somehow a safer bet than Obama/Biden has either forgotten how many times VP’s have taken over for the elected president, or simply isn’t playing with a full deck.

Comment by Diana | 2008-08-29 14:58:56

Are you serious? What exactly do you think your voting for with Obama? If you have problems with Palin who will gain in experience or are you thinking McCain is going to die on day one? Please explain if you have such a problem with Palin why is it again you’re voting for Obama? You just described exactly to a T your candidate and why Palin was a bad choice, yet you want to vote for Obama on day one. Unbelievable!

“Sounds like I was going to vote for Barky?” Not hardly.

McCains choice for VP is a joke.

All this is much ado about nothing. Obama bashing regarding lack of experience? Then McCain goes and picks the number two spot who has less experience than Obama? Well I guess if we need someone to change McCains diapers she has the experience all right. What a farce. McCain just did the worst thing he could have. What a pandering bonehead. My vote for Hillary is not a vote for any woman McCain puts up. That is all this is about. Typical GOP thinking the rest of us are as stupid as they are.

Comment by Get a Life | 2008-08-29 13:39:19

I am and have been a lifelong dem who fully supported Hillary. I was up until today, not going to vote for either candidate. This choice of McCain’s has made me re-think my position.

I am not a troll and if that is your best response to a thoughful post, do us all a favor and stay home on election day. This is what is wrong with this country; ignorant people who have no clue about politics thinking they have all the answers. As I said before, when this country goes further into the toilet, you will be responsible. There is no way you can claim to be a die hard Hilary supporter and then turn around and vote for McCain. He is the complete opposite on all policy issues and that is what matters. Not personality, not inuendo but policy; look it up in the dictionary.

By the way this is the definition of a troll:
An Internet troll, or simply troll in Internet slang, is someone who posts controversial and irrelevant or off-topic messages in an online community, such as an online discussion forum or chat room, with the intention of provoking other users into an emotional response[1] or to generally disrupt normal on-topic discussion.[2]

I would say you are calling the kettle black. I am on topic and providing thoughtful posts wheras you are trying to provoke emotional responses. Again:

Ignorance=Uninformed

Comment by alexei | 2008-08-29 15:46:43

I still don’t get why the Palin pick makes you “re-think” voting for Obama? Because you believe that this is a pander – so what! Obama panders to the audience of the day – that is why he is on both sides of every issue.

Because she doesn’t have enough experience to be President – well, Obama has less, so why would you vote for him?

Because you believe that Obama is good on the issues? He should have been on the Olympic Gymnastics Team with his flip flops. Obama has no core values, he has no desire to fight for his “policies” and he has no clue about many of these policies.

So, explain why you would vote for Obama now.

Comment by Get a Life | 2008-08-29 18:30:48

Alexi,

This is pandering at its finest brought to us by the Grand Ole Party that has brought this country low.

I stated I am re-thinking voting for Barky. I have not made up my mind. I will never vote for a republican. Ever.

Everyone in this country is entiltiled to change their view. Policticans do it all the time. This is not unique to Obama. It does not make it right but rather reflects policiticians as a whole. I do not know Obama. I cannot make blatant statements that he has no core values or desire to fight for his policies.

It seems he is fighting for half this countries policies.

If and I mean if I vote for Obama, I will do so after having made up my own mind.

Both Obama and Palin lack experience but I will never vote for McCain or any Republican.

I also will not be played into thinking that because Hilary is not the nominee that as a woman, I will blindly vote for McCain. That’s all this is about. This pandering is disgusting. The repubs are trying to play this as something it is not.

I believe in the democratic platform. I have all my life. I cannot get behind the repubs trickle down theory. It does not work. Just look at their record over the last 8 years.

Yeah and Georgey and his GOP cronies including McCain had so much experience. What did that get us?

Let’s see;

Civil rights abuses

The government eavesdropping on any communications they choose

Rendering any person they deem a threat

Two more judges legislating from the bench

A war with thousands dead and wounded

Jack Ambramoff and the rest of the corrupt GOP

Katrina and the drowining of a city and our citizens

Countless unqualified cabinet leaders

Alberto Gonzales and his law breaking (pick one)

The Don Seigelman case ala Rove

Suspension of Habeas Corpus

Mounting fiscal debt and sky high oil prices

The outing of a CIA agent

9/11 and the disasterous aftermath;
like our first responders ill and dying

The mortgage crisis

More jobs going overseas

Nothing on immigration and securing our borders or ports

More Americans in poverty and without healthcare

No goverment oversight as they all rolled over and played dead

Abu Ghraib & Guantanimo

What few laws congress passes; he issues hundreds of signing statements that he does not have to follow the law

Hundreds of other examples of why I will never vote for a candidate who supported Bushy 90% of the time. By the way here is McCain’s voting record:

Not at all. He absoulutley can defend his votes. McCain cannot.

McCain is more of the same and if he wins all of you will be culpable in this fiasco.

Joe Biden tried as head of the foriegn relations commitee, to get documents and provide oversight and he was stymied at every turn. The dems were not allowed to hold hearings and if they were, they were regulated to the basement. In some case doors were locked to prevent the dems from getting in. This is your change in McCain? Are you kidding?

Comment by Pink Panther | 2008-08-29 20:01:06

Some of Biden’s accomplishments/statements:

* The 1987 plagiarism bout,
* Support of credit card companies (he pushed the bankruptcy bill that Dems now hate),
* Made the statement about Obama: “First mainstream AA who is articulant, bright and clean and a nice looking guy.”
* Racial obliviousness (the comment about Indian-Americans in 7/11).
“In Delaware, the largest growth of population is Indian Americans, moving from India. You cannot go to a 7/11 or a Dunkin’ Donuts unless you have a slight Indian accent. I’m not joking.”

He and an unrepentant, lying terrorist collaborated on that. And we all know how well it worked out. Do you know what the VP does? I doubt it. Except for being in the line of succession, the President decides the duties of the VP. Not much after that except breaking ties in the Senate.

From Wikipedia:

“The Vice President of the United States[1] is the first person in the presidential line of succession, becoming the new President of the United States upon the death, resignation, or removal of the president, serving out the balance of that presidential term no matter how much or little time remains in it. Every presidential term ends on January 20 of the year immediately after a presidential election. As designated by the Constitution of the United States, the vice president also serves as the President of the Senate, and may break tie votes in that chamber.[2] He or she may be assigned additional duties by the president but, as the Constitution assigns no executive powers to the vice president, in performing such duties he or she acts only as an agent of the president.”

Biden will tear her apart in the VP debates.

Very sexist and don’t bet on it. She is very bright and very articulate. She was also an on-air political commentator. She will catch Biden in one of his many shifting positions. She need only to point to Mr. Obama who began running for President essentially when he entered the Senate – This would most certainly score a “nuff said.”

Comment by nocturnal warrior | 2008-08-29 11:01:18

Actually, her choice is perfect for debates. She is an excellent speaker and Biden will not be able to get red in the face nasty with her. Biden and Romeny would have turned into a shouting match which Biden is good at.

But if he tries that on Palin, it backfires just like Rick Lazio getting in Hillary’s face.

Her experience with the natural gas pipleine and other Alaske initiatives makes her so well versed in oil, drilling, enegergy issues etc. She will tear Biden apart on this issue with facts.

When he goes foreign policy, all she has to do is ask him where we would be today if they enacted his partition plan in Iraq.

I am still not voting for McCain. But his political instincts on this choice were excellent.

Comment by Joy | 2008-08-29 12:26:57

It looks bad with yet another pereson with a direct conection to the oil industry. We’ve had 8 years of that. If McCain had wanted a female on the ticket why not go with Kay Bailey Hutchison.

Comment by Hope floats | 2008-08-29 13:04:52

We all need gas for our cars, so I don’t want the oil industry run out on a rail. Palin has a clean record with the oil industry and has taken on reform in her state.

Kay Bailey Hutchison has her eye on the governor’s mansion in Texas. She didn’t want the VP job, but I don’t think it was even offered to her.

I don’t think you know this woman yet. Just wait. She can stand up for herself. Beautiful and powerful.

I think it was a very good choice for the Republicans.

As a Democrat, I can only say. “Pass the popcorn.” the next couple of months will be interesting.

Outstanding choice for McCain, I can’t wait to work for this campaign! A women with five children and a governor and a hockey mom! SCORE!

The truth of the matter is that if you combine the experience of Obama and Palin, you still don’t have someone with enough experience to be president. But I preper the potential risk of Palin to the certain risk of Obama.

McCain/Palin ‘08

Hillary / ?? ‘12

Comment by Susan | 2008-08-29 11:22:01

McCain was smart to pick a Gov., and people are looking at the top of the ticket when looking for experience, they will settle for less experience in a VP choice, figuring the VP will get the experience they need before their “day 1″ – if it ever comes.

Alyssa, I realize that’s all Obama has as an argument, even though it’s laughable that Obama is actually using the exper….exper…exper..ience argument, when that just reminds folks of his litle experience. BUT, She has much more experience than her current job even though her current job is that of EXECUTIVE EXPERIENCE. lol

…She was on City Council for 4 years, then served successfuly 2 terms as city Mayor and then won election over fellow Republican as Governor, of which she has been serving and receiving a 90 percent approval rating.

…Weary Barry can just kiss his butt buh bye. lmao

actually being a governor is more executive experience than being a senator. So yes she has has experience. So biden migh be at a disadvantage. he knows how to make laws but does he know how to create policies.

Comment by Elle | 2008-08-29 20:43:59

“Governor Palin challenged a corrupt system and passed a landmark ethics reform bill. She has actually used her veto and cut budgetary spending. She put a stop to the “bridge to nowhere” that would have cost taxpayers $400 million dollars.”

Obama used the corrupt chicago political system to launch his political career and nurtured that corrupt system over the years. In his sole ‘management’ job experience, he spent $160million (the Annenberg Challenge)and had nothing to show for it.

You’re way off base here.

Baraccuda Sarah will chew both the Skinny arrogant resume-holder Obamarama and his copy-cat Senator in one bite..and toss them to a Moose-grinder in Alaska!

Unlike clueless, self-involved COWARD OBAMA, this girl–with ideas I don’t always support–has and lives by her principles. She’s never befriended a Terrorist (to get ahead) who bombed his fellow citizens!

Shame on Barack for being such a damn coward. Had he chosen Hillary as VP the 18 million votes would be guaranteed! He felt threatened and lacked politicial instinct…he hadn’t learned how to change his political diapers…

JFK installed his Southern arch-enemy Sen.Lyndon B. Johnson as his V-P! JFK was no coward. He was a gutsy politician who knew how to WIN!

GREAT choice! I honestly didn’t know if McCain would do it, but I think once he found out Barky didn’t have the “audacity” to pick a strong woman because of his super-sized ego, Mac listened and he heard us!

Anyone care to take that statement back? Hmmm?
This was a brilliant move on McCain’s part if for nothing else than the fact that for the last hour there hasn’t been a picture or clip of Obama in sight on the news. All they’re talking about is Sarah, Sarah, Sarah. Love it, love it, love it!!

Women for Hillary will see this move for what it is – major pandering. Palin isn’t fit to sit at in the same resturant as Hillary. Could you imagine if a 72 year old plus McCain with health problems had to step down for this woman?

So, not a good indication of judgement on McCain’s part at all.

Comment by Grail Guardian | 2008-08-29 11:54:45

What makes her so scary – the fact that George Soros and Bill Ayers aren’t there to put words in her mouth? LOL – if Palin has the same effect on women as Obama had on blacks, Obama bin Biden is soooooooooooooo toast!

Can’t wipe the grin off my face today!

Actually I’m a woman for Hillary and I like the Palin choice. Pander away, Johnny Boy!

He’s going for the morality vote, and lot of liberal progressive women are fed up with immorality: Immorality in Hollywood, immorality on our streets, immorality in the rap music that poisons our children’s minds, immorality in movies, and — yes indeedy — immorality in the Democratic party! The immorality of coercive politics, throwing aside the old ladies of the League of Women voters so young male thugs can cheat the caucuses.

Oh yes, I’m a Hillary voter — and Ph.D. research engineer and latte drinker so please don’t bother to call me down scale.

I also like the timing of this announcement. McCain team is doing some awesome work.

Comment by Diana | 2008-08-29 15:42:57

I’m honestly hoping McCain will appoint her to a higher office of her choosing. Over health care maybe? She’s been through enough with the DNC, without having to deal with them trying to take her seat away from her in the Senate. I just cringe every single time I think about her being up for re-election and what they’re going to try to pull on her. We all saw what they did to her in this election. How she has gone above and beyond, bent over backwards to appease these so called leaders of the Democratic Party, even after everything they put her through.

With McCain/Palin in the WH and Hillary serving as Senate Majority Leader, we’ll FINALLY have some true friggin leadership in this country. And yes, I left out Pelosi…her days are numbered and has served to be the greatest of disappointments to come out 2006. Enough said.

Her experience in public office is roughly THREE TIMES LONGER than that of Obama. So yes, let us PLEASE have the experience debate. Now, more than ever.

Comment by Reg | 2008-08-29 10:59:28

Um, Palin was mayor of Wasilla (pop. about 7000), not Anchorage (pop. about 200,000). She has less overall time in elected office than Obama.

And you wonder why you lot aren’t taken seriously.

The IL senate meets less that 70 days per year. X 8 years 560 or about the same them Palin was Gov.

I’m sure if we look at Barky’s attendance it will be less than half of that.

And we know how his Afgan hearings have gone in the US Senate – not at all. (Afganistan is kind of out there and not too important – how many people can point to it on a map??, besides Barky is still studying up on how many states there are.)

HAPPY BIRTHDAY JSMcCain.

AHA!!!!!! MAC HEARD US!!!!!!!!!!!

I stated some reasons for picking a woman yesterday in this thread!!!!!!! YIPPIE!!!!!!!!

http://noquarterusa.net/blog/2008/08/28/tonight-on-nqr-special-convention-coverage-with-patsy-sugar/

I said – It would be a WISE choice. Picking a female who was not Hillary would have hurt ob but it will help Mac. It sends a strong message. It counters the “historic” claim of ob’s AA. It squashes the Dems uterus attacks. The reps won’t balk – they will vote for Mac over bambi no matter who Mac picks. Hillary’s whole campaign has had one year of intense renewal of feminist unity due to the abuse we all witnessed. If not now, when? Was our plea. And it was answered by the GOP not the DNC! I suggested Carly Fiorina, Kay Bailey Hutchinson, Sarah Palin, Meg Whitman, Condi Rice etc. and said I could vote for a Republican ticket with a female VP without having to hold my nose.
It would definitely be a media darling news story and it would fill that gap of “all white men” we have suffered under for 232 years. Talk about hitting the Dems with their own error! A woman as VP would be devastating to the party who stole the nomination from a woman in full view of God, the electorate and the world. It would be a bite in Dean’s ass and Pelosi would be forced to see the results of ignoring all the sexism all year. NBC could go on attacking a woman and further reducing their credibility. It is to me the most intelligent choice, and the women they can pick from are great choices and stand strong without the benefits of gender. And I said a win-win with no downside.

GO DONATE HILL FOLKS, show the NOBAMA love to our new president and HISTORIC VP.

GO MAC and THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!

Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you. LORD this is GREAT news.

Comment by Hope Floats | 2008-08-29 11:11:38

I absolutely agree with you, Karen. My biggest objection to Sarah Palin was how she pushes for drilling in ANWR. If McCain is a one-term President, and she succeeds him with an interesting veep, I am afraid of the Arctic Wildlife Reserve being destroyed.

alert to everyone!!

I just called Pelosi’s office and i said to the guy who answered the phone..that i was a lifelong dem and i had one message for Pelosi…checkmate..

he put me through to her answering device..and i said i was a lifelong dem, a former delegate in 2004..and that she and the dems didn’t just open the door for McCain..they stood there and said welcome to your white house McCain..and i said i was happy and that her new world order was over..and that i won’t be happy until i see the dem party torn apart..

I was very careful how I phrased what I was saying..

Then after I hung up..my phone rang..with no name, no number..there was no one on the line..Pelosi’s office is tracing calls..of that i have no doubt!!

Please be careful when calling her office!!
Be careful of the words you use!!

Not only does she have 8 years more executive experience than obama, who has zero, she actually went to visit the troops in Landstuhl Germany without a press corps in 2007 and has accomplished a great deal in her executive tenure. Unlike Obama who does nothing but promote himself and doesn’t even show up to the senate or call even one committee meeting. She is miles and miles more qualified and more presidential than Obama, so bring it on. She wins hands down. If they want to question her readiness to lead, they open up the question about obama, who obviously isn’t.

This makes us all qualified to be POTUS.

This makes her more Presidential how?

How much has she accomplished for the state of Alaska with five kids to raise and a husband serving big oil interests? Of course she wants drilling in ANWR she is another big oil interest. More of the same.

Comment by VMorris | 2008-08-29 10:48:29

Exactly.

I am sure Hillary will be interviewed about this choice and am sure, since the Democrats are still making her bend over, I am sure she will have some statement about why there is too much at stake for us to take to heart that the Republicans seized the moment. Remember, we are not supposed to be in this for us or Hillary, cough, cough….wink, wink

And I hope when interviewed she wears something akin to the Orange prisoner pant suit to convey a subliminal message….like RED for REPUBLICAN!!!!

Comment by Diana | 2008-08-29 16:58:33

This isn’t about replacing Hillary. McCain who actually took the time to meet with PUMA’s promised he was going to put more women into higher offices. You know McCain who pays the women on his staff as much if not more than his counter part Obama.

IT’S ABOUT KEEPING HIS PROMISES. I’m sorry you know nothing about that, your candidate hasn’t kept any of his promises. How’s that FISA thing going for you? NAFTA?

Comment by Diana | 2008-08-29 17:03:57

I’m Sorry. I am seriously lagging on here today. That should have read the women on his staff as much, if not more than the men on his staff, unlike his counter part Obama. Oh plus he employees more women. Imagine that. Let me add actions speak louder than words. McCain=Action. Obama=Words. Not even his own words. Those he stumbles all over, makes a fool of himself. But, his speech writers words.

Comment by seasiren | 2008-08-29 22:32:15

Well the answer is you get what you deserve. More of the repulicans. No thanks. I would like our country back from these thugs.

Whatever made you believe that politicians keep their promises?

They all will say and do whatever they have to in order to get elected. I am a Hillary supporter and disapointed in the fact that she caved. Instead of a floor fight , she walked away to save her career in politics. That is the saddest commentary of all. I would not give two cents for any politicians promise. They all pander the stuff like the old fashioned remedies to cure the common cold.

Yes, he does. The GOP believes that we will fall for it and apparently some are gullible enough to do it. After 8 years of this garbage some people are still willing to have more of the same.

No way. No how.No mcCain.
