Blog Roll on The O’s Speech

invescojoeraedlegetty.jpgHot Air seemed to be an appropriate blog to start with considering the location of the O’s speech and its “grandeur”, a bit over the top. Certainly didn’t make this Kansas Tornado find him any less elitist. And it absolutely made me feel my blue collar roots grow deeper and more entrenched. Obama you missed in this working house!

Ed Morrisey at Hot Air had this to say about the Obama speech. He said it was “more of the same, only less”. Ed’s appraisal of the speech was great, he highlighted the lack of specifics.

Instead, Obama essentially mailed in his usual stump speech. While people waited to hear specifics, Obama only offered slogans. Meanwhile, he threw in the same attacks that his campaign has made for the last four weeks against John McCain and offered more bluster about having a debate on foreign policy, national security, and patriotism without agreeing to actually meet McCain to do it.

Andrew Sullivan from The Daily Dish had this to say:

It was a deeply substantive speech, full of policy detail, full of people other than the candidate, centered overwhelmingly on domestic economic anxiety. It was a liberal speech, more unabashedly, unashamedly liberal than any Democratic acceptance speech since the great era of American liberalism. But it made the case for that liberalism – in the context of the decline of the American dream, and the rise of cynicism and the collapse of cultural unity. His ability to portray that liberalism as a patriotic, unifying, ennobling tradition makes him the most lethal and remarkable Democratic figure since John F Kennedy.

Personally I heard some of Hillary’s stump speech intermingled in the O’s speech. Just didn’t cut the deal when he had to borrow once again from Hillary! It may have sounded “patriotic” to Sullivan, he may have worn a “flag” pin, all I heard and saw was dead veterans in the crowd…I know I borrowed that from Obama!

And the fireworks, this isn’t the 4th of July, you know!…more on the Obamessiah from Powerline.

Fireworks! The perfect end to an evening of BS slinging of historic proportions. Barack Obama is a demagogue who will stoop to any lie or distortion; the question is how many people he can fool. On that, the jury is out. The answer will emerge between now and November.

As I was listening to the speech I was tearing the speech apart, pointing out to my daughter all the lies his speech pointed out. We chatted up the flip flops…as I was wagging my red, white and blue decorated flip flop at the TV….it had the whole list of the O’s flips.

More from Powerline:

Obama outlined, in the vaguest terms possible, countless billions or trillions of new federal spending. How would he pay for it? By “closing corporate loopholes”–like what? The idea that Obama’s orgy of spending can be funded by “closing corporate loopholes” is frankly childish. By increasing taxes on the top 5% of taxpayers, i.e., precisely those who are grossly over-taxed already. The top 5% already pay 60% of all federal income taxes. And by “eliminating programs that no longer work.” Really? Which ones? No one seriously imagines that Obama–let alone the Democratic Congress!–has any intention of eliminating any significant government programs.

Obama says he wants to become independent of foreign oil in ten years. How? By tapping natural gas reserves. I wonder whether Obama, unlike Nancy Pelosi, understands that natural gas is a fossil fuel for which we must drill offshore, in ANWR, etc. There was perhaps some news here: Obama also came out for developing nuclear energy, yet another flip-flop. But does anyone imagine that nuclear energy development would go forward in a Democratic Congress and White House? In one of his many cheap shots, Obama said that we import three times as much foreign oil as when John McCain went to Washington. That’s no doubt true, because the Democratic Party has enacted legislation that makes it illegal to develop our domestic resources.

Obama said he is happy to debate John McCain about who has the judgment and temperament to guide foreign policy. Of course, he has had many opportunities to do so, and has ducked them. Does this mean that Obama will now accept McCain’s challenge to a series of town hall appearances? But what about Obama’s foreign policy judgment? He barely mentioned Iraq–once, in the distant past, his signature issue–but never referred at all to the surge. Obama was dead wrong on the most important foreign policy issue that has arisen during his time in the Senate, and he failed even to mention it, let alone try to justify his error.

Rather weirdly, Obama attacked McCain for alleged unwillingness to “follow Osama bin Laden to the cave where he lives.” If this means anything, it means that Obama is still in favor of invading Pakistan. Again, no one really believes Obama will do this; it’s just another example of how he doesn’t feel any obligation to conform his words to reality.

He says we “don’t deter Iran by talking tough,” so how, then, do we deter Iran? Obama offers no clue. Likewise with Georgia; “talking tough” won’t stop the Russians. True enough; deterring the Russians requires military capability. Yet Obama has pledged to reduce our military capability. So how, exactly, are the Russians to be stopped?

And I thought it would be great to hear from an Ol’ Broad. She is a very staunch right winger. What can I say?

Obama draws parallels to Martin Luther King Jr.

Embarking on the final leg of his historic presidential run, Barack Obama on Thursday invoked the promise of Martin Luther King in a pledge to end “the broken politics in Washington and the failed presidency of George W. Bush.”

Before nearly 90,000 flag-waving supporters in an open-air NFL stadium, Obama accepted his party’s nomination in a quest to become the nation’s first African-American president — 45 years to the day after King delivered his iconic “I Have a Dream” speech on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial.

I can hear Dr. King crying from Heaven at the thought that his dream has been pre-empted and turned into something it was never meant to be.

I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.

And more from the Ol’ Broad. Her comments here highlight the problem Obama still has with National Security.

“If John McCain wants to have a debate about who has the temperament and judgment to serve as the next commander in chief, that’s a debate I’m willing to have,” Mr. Obama said last night, accepting the Democratic presidential nomination before a crowd of 75,000 in the highly unusual venue of an outdoor football stadium.

Mr. Obama invoked one of the hallmarks of his campaign, his opposition to the war in Iraq, as he painted Mr. McCain as a key supporter of the strategy that put America’s military focus on Baghdad while Al Qaeda regrouped in Afghanistan.

Obama regurgitated his 2002 anti-war speech meme, the one from 2002 that was reproduced with canned applause, the same one ignored by the media in 2002. Yeah! That memorable one!

The American Prospect…..Obama, the American Prospect, the prospect of that when considered in the face of some tough National Security issues and Russia, The Bear, and its tough action…..scary. Here is what Ezra Klein had to say on the O’s speech.

This has been the most aggressive speech of the week. And the most substantive I’ve seen Obama give. It’s not a thematic address: It’s not about hope or values or the universality of the American experience of the illusory obstacles that divide us. It’s concrete. It’s about the failure of the Republican Party, and the promises of the Democratic Party. Internet is spotty and the speech is ongoing, so for now, this is an open thread on his speech.

I am rather opinionated about Obama. I dissected his speech as he was speaking and remembered all his flips and lies! I was less kind than Ezra was.

Here are some words from the comments at Ezra’s place:

I was really hoping that he’d do something for party unity and say something to the many women who are hurting from sexism in the primaries… at least acknowledge it, perhaps even promise to increase representation of women in government.

I expected that the O wouldn’t really address the sexism. He seems to have a blind spot. Obama said “the women have to get over it, I have a campaign to run against McCain”. I have paraphrased here of course.

Yuval Levin at The Corner said this about the O’s speech.

I thought Obama’s speech was better than Biden’s though not as good as either of the Clintons’ speeches. It was a decent text, and a reasonably good performance, though Obama has done a whole lot better on both fronts in the past. Given his considerable talent, he could have done much better. But it wasn’t bad. It was a more traditional liberal Democratic speech than he normally gives, and that certainly must have turned off Republicans (it turned off this one, let me tell you) and might have left some independents cold, but being perceived as a generic Democrat is not such a bad thing in this particular election year, alas. What it didn’t do, though, was answer the basic question the McCain campaign has worked to plant in voters’ minds: what makes this guy think he’s qualified and ready to be president?

What makes anyone think this guy can be president. His resume? No. His time in the Illinois Senate? No. His time in the US Senate? No.

I am reminded of a burger commercial! I can’t remember whose commercial it was but it had a line about, where’s the beef! Well when I look at his speech and consider his lack of experience, I feel like I am looking at an empty bun, asking where’s the beef?

That’s what America thinks, too.

According to the Rasmussen data, Sarah stole Barry’s bounce:

http://www.hillaryclintonforum.net/discussion/showthread.php?t=26382

This is a maginficent development. Only Gustav has any chance of aiding Barry now and preventing his likely being overtaken in the polls in the coming week.

Comment by vinnie | 2008-08-30 10:54:45

somebody didn’t get his return-on-investment for money spent on those columns. It was supposed to get him at least a 10-15 point bounce. It’s all Hillary’s fault I’m sure.

It will be another couple days before we know how much bounce Obama got from his convention. I can tell you right now that 15 points is ridiculous. No modern presidential convention has delivered a 15-bounce — not since the mid-80s, I believe, certainly not since the advent of 24-hour cable news. If the McCain camp felt a 15 point bounce was remotely possible, they would have told the press they expected a 20-point bounce.

You want the realistic figures? 5-10 points is a good solid bounce. More than 10 points is an immense, game-changing bounce. Less than 5 points is a disappointment for us Obamans. And needless to say, a successful McCain convention (which now seems unlikely) could erase or mitigate even a strong Democratic bounce.

The real number you want to be looking at is the aggregate of all the major national tracking polls one week after the Republican convention. That will us where this race is. If Obama is leading by 5 points or more, then he won the battle of the convention and must then be considered the favorite, by far, to win the election. If it’s between 2 and 5 points or so for Obama, then he is still holding the slight lead that he has had most of the summer and the convention weeks must be considered a wash, and the race must still be considered close. And if Obama’s lead is 2 points or less, or god forbid, McCain is actually winning, then the conventions were a disaster for the Democrats and McCain must then be considered the favorite to win the election.

Based on the numbers coming out of the Dem convention, I consider a 5-10 point Obama lead the most likely scenario. We’ll see. Considering that he is now leading by 8 in Gallup and by 4 in Rasmussen — both polls that showed the race tied just last week — your assertion that Obama hasn’t gotten a bounce is ludicrous. Quite clearly he has. Whether it will last is another question that has yet to be answered.

Comment by sfhillary | 2008-08-30 21:01:25

One last point: I will say, again, that one factor which poll-watchers must bear in mind this year is that Obama’s GOTV organization, at this point, seems likely to move Obama’s numbers beyond what the polls predict. In 2004, it was Rove’s mobilization of evangelicals that moved the numbers for Bush beyond what the polls said he could get. That year the GOP had better GOTV. This year we will, by far. So you Republicans had better hope that McCain is leading by a few points heading into November 4th.

Comment by StrawberrybitesBarky | 2008-08-30 21:12:37

Whatever gets you through the night. I love it when you get all verbose when polls don’t go your way. Frankly, it’s gotten to the point where most of us don’t even bother with trying to convince you, we just point and laugh. Yup, we thought Kerry had it in the bag as well, and Dukakis, and Gore…and I remember they had much better bounces and were much better candidates.

Comment by sfhillary | 2008-08-30 23:34:25

You think Kerry, Dukakis and Gore were better candidates than Obama? If so, nothing is going to convince you until you watch McCain conceding around midnight Eastern time on November 4th.

For the record: Barack Obama, his other qualities aside, is probably the most gifted political candidate any of us will ever see in our lifetimes. I used to think the Big Dog would always hold that title. But after seeing that speech the other night I realize that Obama is even better than Bill Clinton.

Someone pointed out that even Dukakis got a seven point bump from his convention speech.

I tried to be objective but it was all marshmallow fluff.

Here comes the McCain/Palin freight train, and it’s gonna run right over Obama.

Comment by beebop | 2008-08-30 09:05:49

That bump they are seeing is 6% courtesy of the “reviled racists” they kicked to the curb.

Comment by sfhillary | 2008-08-30 21:03:23

Well, we didn’t kick anyone to the curb. But yes, I suspect most of the bump is Clinton Democrats returning to the fold. Just as I’ve been telling you they would all along. Sorry PUMAs. Democrats are Democrats, and this is our year. McCain is going to get crushed like a bug on a windshield. Trust me on this. He’s going to lose, badly.

Comment by sfhillary | 2008-08-31 00:14:50

Dukakis’ convention bump was much bigger than 7 points; it was more like 15, which is where I think the McCain guys got that figure from. But 1988 was an eternity ago, the media and political landscapes have changed dramatically in this contemporary era of 24/7 media, nobody gets those kinds of movements in the polls any longer. The expected convention bump these days is around 5 to 7 points, at least half of which can be expected to dissipate within a week. Obama certainly has his 5 to 7. Between Gustav and Palin and whatever the hell the GOP figures out to do next week about nominating McCain, we can expect Obama’s numbers to slip somewhat. As i wrote earlier, tune in to the aggregate tracking poll figures about ten days from now to see where the race really is. Any Obama lead over 3 or 4 points and he’s the clear favorite to win the election. Anything tied or worse and McCain won the convention period and has a great shot at pulling out the election.

Today I woke up to an article on Yahoo about Palin being a “plus or bust” for McCain. What nerve of these dipshits. I mean, really, what fucking nerve. Did anyone dare mention this about Obama, the WORST candidate the Democratic party has ever nominated??? Awww, would that be rascist to imply that this man is a major embarassment? He will be a BUST to the entire party, a collasal failure that will have effects for decades to come. Yet the media goes on and on about his historic candidacy ignoring the other half of history, as if a female vice president is an everyday affair or something to mute. What bothers me more is that women allow these statements to stand.

Obama shouted ENOUGH in his rockstar stadium speech, and I thought the same damn thing. Enough of you Obama, you pathetic liar and loser. Enough of your criminally minded buddies and loser party members and sexist mentalities. The Democratic Party is done.

Comment by wodiej | 2008-08-30 08:39:20

exactly…it sure makes the Democratic party look even more stupid when the Republicans nominated their first female VP ever and the Dem’s chose a corrupt black man for their Presidential nominee and an obvious VP choice in Hillary totally ignored. Screw them.

Comment by Kevin | 2008-08-30 09:56:23

It may be very likely that Senator Clinton didn’t want the VP nod.

Comment by Grail Guardian | 2008-08-30 10:31:37

That doesn’t mean a thing. If Obama had offered and Clinton had turned it down (BTW she wouldn’t have; she stated she would do “Whatever Barack asks me to do”) he would’ve come off smelling like a rose.

The point is, he didn’t even look at her as a possibility. Never bothered to vet her. And even though many here wouldn’t have changed their minds, millions would have. The combo would have been unbeatable, but Obama’s ego is bigger than America, so…

Comment by Observer | 2008-08-30 12:09:43

It used to be that a collective effort from all of us meant not only party unity but representation for our views in government.

It meant that collaboration from all quarters of Dems meant to show the nation our commitment to LIVING our stated values and positions.

NOT NOW. Now its all a bunch of control freaks at the DNC making sure an inexperienced puppet is elected so that a select few can be the decision-makers at the very top.

Unbelievable.

You do realize that the Democratic Party has completely taken over the northeast and the west coast and is making huge inroads in the West and even along the edges of the South? You do understand that the GOP is on its way to being a minority party and that Democrats will dominate Congress for years to come?

You base your belief that the Democratic Party is done on the fact that a few freakazoid Hillary voters are offended that she blew it. This is delusional. The Democratic Party is ascendant, and if a few dumbshit Democrats want to start voting Republican, that is just fine — you’ll find plenty of dumbshit company thre.

She is a pro-life, creationism-in-science-class, anti-stem-cell-research, abstinence-only evangelical Christian. She will never fly with Middle-American independents. McCain picked her because his numbers are so shitty his advisors told him he needed to shore up his right-wing base. When you are making decisions to shore up your base at the end of August, your campaign is in trouble.

I don’t expect any of you PUMAs to understand this, but I would expect you to at least pause and think about the fact that you are former Hillary Clinton supporters who are now supporting a hardcore, far right evangelical Christian who is BACKWARD on every important social issue. How could you? You claim to be feminists who care about gender equality, but you support a woman who is pro-life, who doesn’t want your kids receiving sex ed, who wants them taught creationism in science class, who thinks stem cell research is immoral?

You are all insane. The fact that you simultaneously apparently believe that Hillary Clinton would feel anything but repugnance for you is astonishing. The human capacity for self-delusional never ceases to amaze me.

Okay, the data is starting to come in. You have, in Sarah Palin, a disaster. Here is the first poll data…

By Editor & Publisher STaff

Published: August 30, 2008 1:35 PM ET

NEW YORK The first national polls on John McCain’s pick of Sarah Palin yesterday came out today from Rasmussen and Gallup — and contrary to what the GOP probably hoped, she scored less well with women than men.

Here’s a finding from Gallup: Among Democratic women — including those who may be disappointed that Hillary Clinton did not win the Democratic nomination — 9% say Palin makes them more likely to support McCain, 15% less likely.

From Rasmussen: Some 38% of men said they were more likely to vote for McCain now, but only 32% of women. By a narrow 41% to 35% margin, men said she was not ready to be president — but women soundly rejected her, 48% to 25%.

Only 9% of Obama supporters said they might be more likely to vote for McCain.

Overall, voters expressed a favorable impression of her by a 53/26 margin, but there was a severe gender gap on this: Men embraced her at 58% to 23%, while for women it was 48/30.

And by a 29/44 margin, men and women together, they do not believe that she is ready to be President.

Besides they have their plate full right now talking about how much experience matters and boobs don’t qualify you for high office and women who are birthin babies should be barefoot and pregnant in the kitchen at home waitin for their man, not in political office.

I am sure it never occured to them that Mr. Palin might have an active role in raising the kids.

But then a party that now thinks “wheres my daddy” is the status quo, a Man actually being involved in the day to day like Mr. Palin is unthinkable.

I never thought i would see the day when it was the Republicans and not the Democrats who were espousing the right of women to be treated as equals.

But then, i never thought i would see the day where the Democrats would cannabolise the Clintons to steal a nomination and push a leftwing extremist puppet out as the nominee.

You may agree with her on tackling government corruption, on fiscal responsibility, on the family values that don’t get milked for votes, i.e., two people sticking together through thick and thin.

I don’t know if any of this translates to Washington D.C.

It’s such a colossal mess.

That is not easy to do unless you have a spine.

I also like the fact that she is from Alaska and loves moose burgers…That means BOBiden will be on the menu.

You’re all just going to ignore who this woman is and cheer her on for no other reason than the fact that she’s against Obama, aren’t you? And you’re going to pretend you’re feminists. Amazing.

Well, the one line is ripped from The American President (McCain’s problem isn’t that he doesn’t care, his problem is he doesn’t get it). But to me it brought to mind the line from The Hunt for Red October “You arrogant ass! You’ve killed us!”

I’ve posted on allegedly “Progressive” blogs to ask people who gushed over Obama’s “amazing” speech to take a deep breath and think rationally about their reaction every time Obama opens his mouth.

It couldn’t be more obvious to me that most of these idiots who can’t stop having orgasms over Obama’s every utterance are the real racists- deep down, they simply can’t get over the fact that there’s this good-looking black guy who can actually walk upright and speak English clearly. Everything he says is so darned impressive, because he’s the one who is saying it.

People who actually DO look beyond race don’t see a black guy giving speeches- they see a candidate for President, just like every other candidate for President, and they judge his speeches on content and clarity, just as they do the speeches of every other candidate. And when they do this, they find that Obama’s speeches come up short, every time.

Try to post this on HuffingtonPost, MoveOn, MMFA, etc: you’ll get flamed by people too shallow and ashamed to admit it’s truth. Because somehow they think there’s something noble in applying a form of Affirmative Action to a presidential candidate.

Comment by karen for Clinton (sigh, McPalin now) | 2008-08-30 08:47:14

yep, I was born and lived in NYC and the area for 47 years. There is nothing new at all for me for having black leaders, landlords, babysitters, best friends, class mates, neighbors, friends and that goes for every other ethnic group too.

So white guilt does not apply here. They can’t shove their crappy candidate down my throat by saying “by the way he is black”, I didn’t have anything to get over, I learned about equality for all as a child due to black, gay, female, hispanic, muslim, jewish, etc. family!

The whole concept of racism has been turned inside out and spun around in a centrifuge in an effort to shore up Howard Dean’s revenge ( Obama ). I write about it all the time, so do the guys at the Black Agenda Report. And you all know Sugar gets it. The media pushes the narrative so hard that it doesn’t matter whether there’s any reality to it. The truth is, Obama is graded on a curve, and that’s racist.

Comment by Heather | 2008-08-30 11:20:54

Bingo. Among white people, it’s the ones who have very low expectations of African-Americans who are most impressed. And we’ve seen it in statements by McCaskill (”A black candidate who doesn’t on as a victim”) and Biden for goodness sake (”He’s clean and articulate” wha?). People were crying over Michelle’s speech not because it was a good speech but because it didn’t sound like Aunt Jemima. If I were African-American this would be making me uneasy. And I think there’s a lot about Obama that makes African-Americans uneasy, but it’s “what the heck, close enough for jazz!” <- as my classical piano instructor used to say. :)

Comment by Heather | 2008-08-30 11:26:42

And P.S. that is the one thing that gives me pause. Solidarity with the 90+% of African Americans who want to give this guy a chance. I feel badly not being part of that. I voted for Jesse Jackson twice in the 80s. I’d love to see Colin Powell get in. And I’m an avid fan of young African-American leaders like Cory Booker (Mayor of Newark, NJ). If Obama had not committed so many moral crimes against the Clintons and women, I’d be behind him 100% now.

Comment by sfhillary | 2008-08-31 00:39:10

Florida oranges she would have won the state
orange jumpsuit – a prisoner of the obamacrat party

The impressions it gave me and others too. There were more, I can’t think of them right now.

Comment by Clinton Fan | 2008-08-30 13:03:23

ORANGE (that same shade, in fact) was the symbol color for those protesting ELECTION FRAUD in the Ukraine, as well–a point that was not lost on many who have a bit of “international experience” under their belts.

The “authorities” rigged that election in favor of the wrong “Viktor” in that circumstance. It was, eventually, put to rights. I doubt we shall be so lucky, but that did cross my mind when I saw the outfit.

Of course, they tried to poison the rather handsome politician who was defrauded of votes in that example–almost killed him, he ended up having a disfigured face from the poisons.

Here’s an article on the Orange Revolution, for those interested:

Comment by karen for Clinton (sigh, McPalin now) | 2008-08-30 09:00:52

Oh and about the polls and the women voters. There were so many people totally fooled by those numbers. There were MSM articles which failed to take into account the AA vote percentages also applied to the female AA vote numbers.

If 90% of female AA’s were supporting ob over Hillary they represented a portion of her missing female support base.

They even tried to make the case that more women were leaning toward ob. When they took out the numbers of skewed unrepresentative AA women who were voting along racial lines it totally changed the female support base for ob. AA women were a large chunk of his female support base.

When they broke it down to women other than AA’s Clinton had a huge lead among women. But the MSM wanted to make it SEEM as if ob won women over and Hillary couldn’t.

As the time comes closer and the polls actually start to have meaning we must remember to consider the AA women in the Mac vs ob equation.

The articles, one I think was in Newsweek or Time back in April or May – were proven to totally skewer the results because they not only counted those women as AA voter base, but they again gave him the lead of those same women counted as a whole.

All along the 90% + AA vote for him skewered every single category. That type of percentile in a Presidential election has never been encountered by any demographic before. Not even of Dems voting for the Dem candidate or Reps voting for the Reps.

The highly unusual circumstances of the polls this year have given us all a lot of hog wash to mull over.

Comment by Heather | 2008-08-30 11:34:13

That John Roberts statement is so 1950’s and 1960’s. I remember when I first went out into the world of work in those years and filled out job applications. A standard question on applications in those years was are you were married or were going to get married. And often your affirmative answer was used to determine if you would get the job or not. The thinking went if you got married pregnancy would soon follow. So companies could discriminate against women based on sex.

Someone needs to remind John Roberts that is not allowed any longer.

This just reminds me yet again, as did Obama’s entire racist campaign, that it is OK to be sexist in this country more than it is OK to be racist.

It is less than 100 years since women got the vote, 88 years to be exact. And we are still battling sexism. And many of us former Democrats have been shocked and saddened to see that it is the Democratic Party that is the biggest sexist of all. After years of working for the Party and believing they were on my side they will now have to win me back. If they want my support in the future they will have to get it the old fashioned way – THEY WILL HAVE TO EARN IT!!!!!

Biden’s connections to the region are suspicious, to say the least. When lobbyist Stephen Payne was caught on tape saying he could arrange for the rehabilitation of a certain Central Asian ex-dictator for a hefty “donation” to the Bush library, he also mentioned that Biden could be brought along – presumably for a price. Bruce Ettinger, formerly Biden’s director of legislative affairs, is Payne’s business partner.

Where’s the beef was Wendy’s, I believe.

The beef was our Hillary. Funny how the speeches from Hill and Bill were miles above the rest of the entire dog and pony show 4 day extravaganza.

I had this past week off work and had originally planned on going to Denver in hopes there would be justice served.

Then as the day drew closer to decide, I remembered how I expected justice to prevail on May 31st, and how it had made me change to Indy after all these years, and I knew in my heart there was no point in going to Denver since it was just going to be a great big illusion of unity.

The news of the whippets blocking any Hillary proponents just solidified my resolve to let them have their party and let them slowly realize their regrets.

I have NO regrets, Hill and Bill made me proud to the end.

Yes, it is striking to consider that NO ONE from his Harvard days has come forward to say what a great guy he was. NO ONE from Chicago days of ‘community organizing’ has come forward. NO ONE from childhood, NO ONE from anywhere.

Either he’s thrown them all under the but, or else they’re not presentable. Probably a combination of both. All the nice ones he’s thrown under the bus and all the rotten ones are not presentable.

By my count, he’s got two people — Michelle and his sister — willing to testify to his character. They’re not exactly objective.

A key moment for Palin will be the vice presidential debate, to be held at Washington University in St. Louis on October 2. One liberal commentator–a former U.S. ambassador and not normally an unabashed vulgarian–licked his chops Friday afternoon: “To steal an old adage of former Secretary of State James Baker .  .  . putting Sarah Palin into a debate with Joe Biden is going to be like throwing Howdy Doody into a knife fight!”

Charming. And if Palin holds her own against Biden, as she is fully capable of doing? McCain will then have succeeded in combining with his own huge advantage in experience and judgment, a politician of great promise in his vice presidential slot who will make Joe Biden look like a tiresome relic. McCain’s willingness to take a chance on Palin could turn what looked, after Obama’s impressive speech Thursday night in Denver, like a long two months for Republicans and conservatives, into a campaign of excitement and–dare we say it?–hope, which will culminate on November 4 in victory.

You can bet she’s doing NOTHING but debate prep at every free moment, if the GOP are smart.

And if the debate topics are to be fair, there ought to be a mixture of “executive” questions, foreign policy questions, management questions and the usual fluff and “let me throw this fucker off their game” questions.

You know she’s going to get the “What makes YOU prepared to be VP?” question. That’s probably the first one to work on…

All Palin has to do is be charming, demonstrate sufficient knowledge and reasoning skills, and do that old “exceed expectations” game.

Wonder who is playing Biden in her mock debates?

I respect her so very much. John McCain gave her more respect then Obama or the DNC.
I am a PUMA and will be fighting for John MCCain now. First time I will vote Republican!!

I looked too long and now my retinas are burned! I am so #$%@*ing tired of having the Oborg throw Hillary in my face as an argument! Sure Palin’s no Hillary. But she’s closer than Obama.

Comment by Jeremiah God Damn Barack Amerikkka Wrightopolis | 2008-08-30 16:12:46

Nevermind Palin not being hillary.

Obama Is NO Hillary Clinton.

Hell!

Obama is not the Obama we thought we didn’t know either.

Yeah pretty repulsive. I’d spend some timing commenting on their horribleness, but I’ve been forever banned from the site because I spoke truth to Queen Arianna once or twice. Oh well, let them stew in their own juices.

Comment by Clinton Fan | 2008-08-30 14:15:06

You mean Queen Arianna, who used to be a rather VICIOUS rightwing Republican until she figured out her husband was gay (everyone knew but her) and then, when he came out and left that marriage, all of her GOP friends shunned her in embarrassment…so she suddenly had an epiphany and decided she could make more money being a reformed wingnut?

THAT Arianna?

The one who treats flight attendants like shit? THAT Arianna?

What a rude creature she is.

No, we’re just immune to the race card. And the red neck/white trash/typical white person card. Now YOU need to get used to the Sexist Pig card – because that’s what you are, that’s what your candidate is, and that’s what your party is.

Now shut up and go iron my skirt!

this one is definately about 4-6 months behind on its talking points.
I haven’t been called a racist, red-neck in quite some time, sure will bring a laugh tonight over at my weekly Aryan Brotherhood, KKK, Nazi PartyAmerican Legion meeting.
Good news though, the Palin v Biden favorability ratings are in and yes, the relatively unknown Gov. has 53-48 edge over Senator Hair Club.

Comment by beebop | 2008-08-30 09:49:14

I think that turnover is high right now and they are having a hard time keeping the talking points manual up to date. Money is tight and there looks to be no end in sight of markets where he will have to suspend advertising because of shortfall. Add the “windows” between the Greek pillars on a last minute basis couldn’t have helped the budget on the faux temple to the god either imho ….

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA …. too bad Kerry wasn’t nearer. He knows what NAPLAM smells like.

I think they have had to cut back on what they can pay per hour …. so you get what you get, no?

No longer seeing any ads for “get out the vote” canvassers on Craigslist in Cleveland, Columbus or Akron. ACORN has been so scrutinized that they are all under the microscope.

Slightly off topic …. 0bama and Plugs will be at the Tubbs-Jones memorial service today. Couldn’t manage to honor her with two sentences during the self congratulatory speeches, but God forbid they miss a chance to use her funeral to do some canvassing. Low lifes. Both of them. There will probably be so much kumbaya that totally forgotten in the entire thing will be that STEPHANIE supported HILLARY … yeah, a racist African American female … who knew?

Comment by Grail Guardian | 2008-08-30 10:10:12

CAN WE MAKE OUR POLITICIANS LISTEN?
Yes We CAN!

If Obama is so sure of himself, why not debate McCain, anytime, anyplace, anywhere and anyhow?
Answer: Because he doesn’t have an answer without 300 advisors whispering in his ear and without a teleprompter!
WE SHOULD DEMAND TOWN HALLS SO WE KNOW EXACTLY WHERE THE CANDIDATES STAND AND HOW THEY ARE GOING TO GET TO THERE.

If Palin is less experienced than Obama, Biden and McCain–BRING ON THE DEBATES, EVEN PALIN V OBAMA!

Why can’t Obama answer a question definitively without referring to his website?
Answer: Because even he doesn’t know what his 300 advisors have determined is the best course of action in any given situation.

One thing that is said about Palin, she will not hesitate to go after corruption, even if it is in her OWN party! This is the person we need in the White House. Look over that Budget, Sarah! I’ll be our tax dollars have already been paying for much more good to be done than the wasteful spending going on there!

I’m am really stoked about Palin, despite hesitancy yesterday. The more I’ve heard about her guts and tenacity, the more I liken her as a female “Mr Smith goes to Washington”. We need her and dozens like her. Now this IS change we can believe in!

Let’s force them to debate. Hold their feet to the fire if they refuse to do so. Force them to answer a question that has not been pre-screened.

Please help to carry this message. Even if you’re an Obama supporter, even YOU should support our demand for more debates and for clear and decisive answers–out of Obama’s mouth! Not on a website that he can soon enough declare was wrong.

Comment by csuzeq | 2008-08-30 09:54:42

We should start emailing Sarah all the corrupt Obama behavior and put her on it! She puts that f-ing loser away and her and Mac rule America forever!

Comment by Athena-NoBama | 2008-08-30 10:01:36

Sarah would have a field day!

Wouldn’t you love to see Obama try to debate Palin? From what they’re saying, she says what she thinks no matter what and is firm in her convictions. I would love to see them debate each other! If Palin is weakness in the BOTTOM of the ticket, she would certainly expose the weakness at the TOP of the Dem ticket. That would make the Obama camp stfu-making them put up or shut up about anything.

(Something tells me Hillary is secretly cheering Sarah on!)

Comment by Blu | 2008-08-30 10:09:08

Wouldn’t you love to see Obama try to debate Palin?

Yes I would, I would also like to see some one on one basketball after the debate. That might give obama a slight chance of winning one contest.

If being a racist and a thug is a qualification for being a president, then no doubt Obama is the best qualified of any candidate since David duke ran for the republican nomination. Look for Obama to try and have the RUULZ changed so J. Biden can stand-in for him in a debate with McCain on Foriegn Relations and National Security. Too bad Dr King’s “I Have a Dream” hope may have been set back for eons to come due to the collapse of the democratic party which may in fact contribute to the advancement of the EQUALITY OF WOMEN’s RIGHTS through the PROGRESSIVE REPUBLICAN PARTY.

MCCAIN AND PALIN– HELL YEAH

Comment by MaggiefromMichigan | 2008-08-30 11:00:47

Sarah Palin is the change we’re looking for! It will be fun to see her in the debates. Not only has she held an executive position as Governor and been in charge of the National Guard she also has experience in the oil and gas industry. She and her husband have both stated that he will be taking leave from his job to help with the kids more. And she comes from a true middle class background which is very refreshing. In her speech she said she has the heart of a servant and what she meant is that she understands she works for the people.

Ok, has anyone notice that it is the woman of the democratic party trying to tear down Palin, will the DNC has them doing the dirty work, I enjoyed Bob Beckell be toren apart by a woman republican when he tried to inject that she was Palin a dumb decesion , boy, did she tear into him , and Oreilly did the same to the democratic stratergist that was a woman, . I see that the democratic party is going to use sexism and racism more and more in this campaign, and all of us must lash back with the pride we have , and say it will not get the empty suit elected, we must speak loud and clear that the Republican party starts using this against the Democratic one since the Os supporters lashed out their own candidate Hillary, disrespect and ignorance will not be tolerated by the voters of the Democratic party. Just as the republican party are using Obamas and and the pundits words against him, and his own words to tear down his experience and judgment calls, they must use the pundants O’s words that degraded Hillary , and what they used to tear her record apart and for the 527, someone needs to catch the attention of all those woman , to show the lack of integrity and disrespect of Obama and the Dnc not to put a stop too it, no one stood up for Hillary but Ferraro, and she was labeled a racist along with the Clintons, no thank you I own my vote, one voice one vote Nobama, it is not ok to allow sexism racism, and voter fraud, t, and chicago dirty politics, to elect this empty suit, that lacks integirty , character, and conviction to stand up for what is right, the dnc, does not deserve this office of the President, vote and voice the embarrassment of our party, it is not ok, for dirty politics. We the people deserve better and McCain has respect for the 18+ million voices that O and the party threw under the bus, remember they did not need us.,, Nobama ever.
