Please name one "moral crime" that Obama has committed against Clinton or women. Please be specific. I'd honestly like to know what you're thinking of.

Yeah, it isn't often that these NQers let slip with a directly racist comment. "Osambo" is the exception here, not the rule, but it's still offensive.

She is a pro-life, pro-creationism, anti-stem-cell research, abstinence-only evangelical Christian. You're all just going to ignore who this woman is and cheer her on for no other reason than the fact that she's against Obama, aren't you? And you're going to pretend you're feminists. Amazing.

The Democratic Party is done, huh? You do realize that a higher percentage of Americans identify themselves as Democrats today, right now, than have done so for a generation? You do realize that the Democratic Party has completely taken over the northeast and the west coast and is making huge inroads in the West and even along the edges of the South? You do understand that the GOP is on its way to being a minority party and that Democrats will dominate Congress for years to come?

You base your belief that the Democratic Party is done on the fact that a few freakazoid Hillary voters are offended that she blew it. This is delusional. The Democratic Party is ascendant, and if a few dumbshit Democrats want to start voting Republican, that is just fine -- you'll find plenty of dumbshit company thre.

Dukakis' convention bump was much bigger than 7 points; it was more like 15, which is where I think the McCain guys got that figure from. But 1988 was an eternity ago, the media and political landscapes have changed dramatically in this contemporary era of 24/7 media, nobody gets those kinds of movements in the polls any longer. The expected convention bump these days is around 5 to 7 points, at least half of which can be expected to dissipate within a week. Obama certainly has his 5 to 7. Between Gustav and Palin and whatever the hell the GOP figures out to do next week about nominating McCain, we can expect Obama's numbers to slip somewhat. As i wrote earlier, tune in to the aggregate tracking poll figures about ten days from now to see where the race really is. Any Obama lead over 3 or 4 points and he's the clear favorite to win the election. Anything tied or worse and McCain won the convention period and has a great shot at pulling out the election.

You think Kerry, Dukakis and Gore were better candidates than Obama? If so, nothing is going to convince you until you watch McCain conceding around midnight Eastern time on November 4th.

For the record: Barack Obama, his other qualities aside, is probably the most gifted political candidate any of us will ever see in our lifetimes. I used to think the Big Dog would always hold that title. But after seeing that speech the other night I realize that Obama is even better than Bill Clinton.

Okay, the data is starting to come in. You have, in Sarah Palin, a disaster. Here is the first poll data...

By Editor & Publisher STaff

Published: August 30, 2008 1:35 PM ET

NEW YORK The first national polls on John McCain's pick of Sarah Palin yesterday came out today from Rasmussen and Gallup -- and contrary to what the GOP probably hoped, she scored less well with women than men.

Here's a finding from Gallup: Among Democratic women -- including those who may be disappointed that Hillary Clinton did not win the Democratic nomination -- 9% say Palin makes them more likely to support McCain, 15% less likely.

From Rasmussen: Some 38% of men said they were more likely to vote for McCain now, but only 32% of women. By a narrow 41% to 35% margin, men said she was not ready to be president -- but women soundly rejected her, 48% to 25%.

Only 9% of Obama supporters said they might be more likely to vote for McCain.

Overall, voters expressed a favorable impression of her by a 53/26 margin, but there was a severe gender gap on this: Men embraced her at 58% to 23%, while for women it was 48/30.

And by a 29/44 margin, men and women together, they do not believe that she is ready to be President.

She is a pro-life, creationism-in-science-class, anti-stem-cell-research, abstinence-only evangelical Christian. She will never fly with Middle-American independents. McCain picked her because his numbers are so shitty his advisors told him he needed to shore up his right-wing base. When you are making decisions to shore up your base at the end of August, your campaign is in trouble.

I don't expect any of you PUMAs to understand this, but I would expect you to at least pause and think about the fact that you are former Hillary Clinton supporters who are now supporting a hardcore, far right evangelical Christian who is BACKWARD on every important social issue. How could you? You claim to be feminists who care about gender equality, but you support a woman who is pro-life, who doesn't want your kids receiving sex ed, who wants them taught creationism in science class, who thinks stem cell research is immoral?

You are all insane. The fact that you simultaneously apparently believe that Hillary Clinton would feel anything but repugnance for you is astonishing. The human capacity for self-delusional never ceases to amaze me.

Whatever gets you through the night. I love it when you get all verbose when polls don't go your way. Frankly, it's gotten to the point where most of us don't even bother with trying to convince you, we just point and laugh. Yup, we thought Kerry had it in the bag as well, and Dukakis, and Gore...and I remember they had much better bounces and were much better candidates.

No, if he had offered it and she turned it down publicly he would have looked like a weak idiot and all you PUMAs would be crowing. Obama's way too smart for that. I'm sure he talked to her about it months ago and it became clear that neither of them wanted the other.

Well, we didn't kick anyone to the curb. But yes, I suspect most of the bump is Clinton Democrats returning to the fold. Just as I've been telling you they would all along. Sorry PUMAs. Democrats are Democrats, and this is our year. McCain is going to get crushed like a bug on a windshield. Trust me on this. He's going to lose, badly.

One last point: I will say, again, that one factor which poll-watchers must bear in mind this year is that Obama's GOTV organization, at this point, seems likely to move Obama's numbers beyond what the polls predict. In 2004, it was Rove's mobilization of evangelicals that moved the numbers for Bush beyond what the polls said he could get. That year the GOP had better GOTV. This year we will, by far. So you Republicans had better hope that McCain is leading by a few points heading into November 4th.
