John Coale — a top backer of Hillary Clinton’s candidacy — has endorsed the McCain/Palin ticket because, he told Newsweek in an exclusive interview, “Obama is not who he says he is.”

John Coale, a prominent Washington lawyer, husband of Fox TV host Greta Van Susteren and a supporter of Sen. Hillary Clinton, announced today that he was supporting John McCain for president.
Coale, who traveled with Sen. Clinton, President Clinton and her family through out the primary season, complained of sexism, and said the Democratic Party is “being taken over by the moveon.org types” in an exclusive interview with Newsweek.com’s Tammy Haddad.
He said he tried to prevent Clinton’s brother, Tony Rodham, from attending an August 18th meeting in Scranton, Pa. with McCain campaign surrogate Carly Fiorina. “I urged him not to go and told him it would embarrass his sister, but he has a mind of his own.” Coale says Mr. Rodham asked Ms. Fiorina “about McCain’s Supreme Court picks.”
It is clear that Mr. Coale did NOT make this move in a rush. He tried to “prevent Clinton’s brother, Tony Rodham, from attending an August 18th meeting in Scranton, Pa. with McCain campaign surrogate Carly Fiorina.”
But, it is also clear that he too became unduly concerned about Barack Obama’s qualifications and his honesty.
As are we.
Mr. Coale has my complete sympathy. I continue to have internal debates about where I find myself headed when I vote in November. How can I abandon the platform of the Democratic party? How can I vote for a proponent of the Iraq War? But then I worry about Obama’s utter lack of qualifications and his lack of knowledge. And I am extremely worried about the fate of the Democratic party if it becomes controlled by the crooked Chicago machine. I see that the only way to stop the Democratic party from being lost to crooks is to defeat its icon.
Further, he hits on a key major concern: That the Moveon.org types ARE taking over the party. As we have all learned — the hard way — “Moveon types” have zero tolerance for any dissenting viewpoints, and demand complete loyalty. They are as far from core Democratic party values of diversity and tolerance as the old Soviet Union.
P.S. It is also clear that Mr. Coale keeps a low profile typically because that’s the only photograph I could find of him — and it is from several years ago.

Mr. Coale is as frustrated with the entire Dem process so far, he had to finally say something. He joins ranks with the enlightened who acually analyze and make decisions rationally and independantly. Not just eat what’s put on the plate in front of them.
OR - perhaps this isn’t that surprising, given that his wife works for the #1 disseminator of lies about Democrats in the media, and he’s given money to stellar chaps like Newt Gingrich, Orrin Hatch, and Lindsey Graham in the past.

If this was actually a true statement, then why hasn’t FOX been sued for slander or libel?
…or why hasn’t Hillary sued MSNBC, right? Libel and slander both have really high thresholds when dealing with public figures; all news organizations work really hard to cover their asses. And most of the lies are presented as opinion or rumor, so the network doesn’t have to stand behind it.

During the primary season, according to non-partisan media watchdog organizations, FOX scored the highest of all networks regarding equitable coverage of Democrats and Republicans, with the Republicans actually receiving a bit more negative reporting by FOX than the Democrats, but a “virtual” even.
According to just one of the published reports, below, by the NON-PARTISAN Center for Media and Public Affairs,
“Who’s Fair and Balanced?:
Fox News Channel’s coverage was more balanced toward both parties
than the broadcast networks were. On FOX, evaluations of all Democratic candidates combined were
split almost evenly – 51% positive vs. 49% negative, as were all evaluations of GOP candidates – 49%
positive vs. 51% negative, producing a perfectly balanced 50-50 split for all candidates of both parties.
On the three broadcast networks, opinion on Democratic candidates split 47% positive vs. 53%

Greta was an attorney that was bought on the air during the OJ trial. She had a show on CNN and still kept her law practice. She was lured to FOX after a contract talks broke down with CNN. I once thought the way you did but after I actually watched their programs, I’d say they’re about 65-35, conservative to liberal, which is close. There are some commentators there that I dislike, including Bill O’Reilly.
On the other hand, I used to watch MSNBC often. Then Keith, Chrissy, Shuster and the rest suddenly went in the tank for Oblahblah before the primaries were even over. I was a Hillary delegate to my precinct convention (pct 217-Williamson Country, Texas) and county convention. Obama won my precinct and the county convention 2-1. His people ran a good camapign and did not cheat. They took advantage of the process in place in Texas and won it fair and square. They also took advantage of the various caucus processes in states that used the caucus. Our side (the Hillary side) chose to go the election route and neglected the caucus organization process, against my constant harangue.
You-and all those so-called “Hillary backers” who support McCain now-who screech on the blogs that Obama cheated are full of crap. I begged the Hillary people to organize for the caucuses…The Penn bunch said no. That was a calculated risk which ended up biting the Hillary campaign in the ass, sad for me to say.
Yes, I think Hillary would have been the best nominee but that is a moot matter now. So all of you so-called Hillary people who really never were real Hillary backers or real Democrats (Hillary is a real Democrat!), your effort to divide the Democratic party, with your whines about who won and lost in the primaries, will be found out before election day. Those of us who have been in the process for years-in my case over 50 years- can see through your crap. You were never going to vote for Hillary in the general election and, By God, you know it. You were closet republicans during the primary period. You are being outed.
Real Hillary backers will vote a democratic ticket from top to bottom or rue the day they didn’t! For those of you who really supported Hillary on her merits and qualifications, don’t go down that childish route of allowing McCain to win with your vote.
Many years ago, when JFK got the nomination and picked LBJ, we (Texas) held a special election to replace LBJ in the senate. Almost 80 candidates ran in that special election. The two top vote getters were Republican John Tower, & Conservative Democrat Bill Blakely. Liberal Democrat Maury Maverick, supported by labor, didn’t make the run-off. Labor, thoroughly pissed, decided to go fishing on election day to teach the Democrats a lesson. Yeah, some lesson.
Tower defeated Blakely 50.6% to 49.4% (a little over 10,000 votes statewide) and that was the first time a Republican won a statewide election in Texas since Reconstruction. Labor was sure that we would get that seat back in 6 years. Yeah! Right! Tower died in a plane crash in his 5th 6yr term. While in the senate, he helped put together a statewide Republican organization which eventually came to control every stateside ofice in Texsas and he voted against the Civil rights legislation. He was a nothing senator with a puny record & he stayed drunk most of the time.
The real lesson is that if you have governing principles and if you care about the economy, education, children, enviornment, the issues regarding Iraq, energy, etc., and if your philosophy closely parallels Hillary Clinton’s, you will do what labor did in 1960. If you vote for McCain-Palin, you will guaranteeing at least four more years of failed policies regarding all of the above issues, not to mention the Supreme Court.
Palin will be McCains Cheney with lipstick. She was put on that ticket by the Rovians & Tom Delay. She will watch evey move McCain makes and if he deviates from the Rovian straight and narrow, they will neutralize McCain and make sure Palin implements their sinister and counter productive agenda. They will guarantee more let downs for the middle class and more of the “pity the poor rich” policies in place today in the Bush administration.
Is that the lesson the true Hillary supporters want to teach the Democrats? After all, since 1992, Bill & Hillary heve been the powers of the Democratic party. Why did they not change the nominating process in that time? I begged them to do so. I begged the state & local party chairs during that time to do so. So, if you are mad at anyone, be mad at the states that use the caucus process and the convoluted Texas process and at our Clintons for not working the caucus process hand in hand with the election process. If we had only changed the rules to allow winner take all in primary election states, Hillary would be the nominee.
Now, we have one choice. That is to let go of petty, childish foolishness such as that being played by some of the so-called “Hillary voters for McCain.” If Obama loses this election, Hillary will be blamed and her shot in 2112 or 2116, well, you know how that will turn out. So, our real alternative is to beat the hell out of McCain and the down Republican ticket or lose the White House for decades to come. If that is what you want, have at it.
Personally, I think this is a set-up for Hannity. Now when Hannity goes full throttle on 0bama, what can Colmes and any 0bama supporter say?

It is the leading determinant of poverty. With regard to minority communities the cycle of poverty - and thus a multi-generational sense of hopelessness - is devastatingly connected to the fact that a huge number of children grow up without father figures.

Moveon.org was in effect hijacked by the Obama camp. The organization had been originally started by Bill Clinton. At one point Obama offered a contribution to moveon.org IF they would not accept any monies from any other candidates. They agreed to that, [it must have been a hefty offering,] and in exchange the Obama camp got the use of their mailing list along with their endorsement. Such a list is good for fundraising or maybe even fundplacing if there is a huge contribution that has to appear as “small” $25 dollar donations. I can’t PROVE it but I thought of it. If I thought of it surely Obama’s fundraisers did too.

I think he’s the first of many Democratic defections. This is the craziest election I remember. But it’s interesting that the issue of sexism really, really bothered him. The Dems could have avoided this break, but they didn’t. In fact, they encouraged the gender bashing. Still are.

These Clinton donors have contributed at least $200,000 to McCain’s campaign in the last few months, an amount which doesn’t include larger contributions to the Republican joint fundraising committees.
But the defecting donors, along with a significant segment (20 percent) of Clinton fans who have expressed support for McCain in recent polls, could present a problem for Obama in the general election.
In her convention speech on Tuesday night, Clinton passionately encouraged her supporters to back Obama, but some of her one-time backers weren’t convinced.
“That speech was amazing, but it’s not going to change my mind,” one Texas donor, who gave $2,300 to Clinton earlier this year and contributed $2,300 to McCain last month, told ABCNews.com. “I talk to plenty of people like me who just won’t accept an unqualified president.”
At least one of Clinton’s HillRaisers, elite fundraisers who contributed at least $100,000 to her failed campaign, recently donated to the Republican candidate.
Charles Dolan, head of the giant Cablevision, wrote a $2,300 check to McCain on June 30 after Clinton’s initial plea to help Obama.
Ronald Book, one of the biggest lobbyists in Florida who represents clients as diverse as the University of Miami and Bell South, raised $700,000 for President Clinton in recent years and contributed the maximum to Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign earlier this year.
Now, he’s contributing to McCain and is leaning toward endorsing the Republican nominee. Book notes that he wouldn’t give money to Obama even if the candidate took money from lobbyists.
“Obama has said a lot of stuff, but nothing with a concrete vision,” says Book. “I have heard at least some sensible things from Senator McCain. He’s a comeback kind of guy and I’ve heard from many other people who are clearly leaning in his direction.”

Trump, the New York realtor and reality show host, has long been a bipartisan campaign contributor and gave $2,000 to John Kerry’s campaign in 2004.
This time around, he contributed $600 to Clinton. But when it was clear in May that her campaign was over, The Donald gave the legal maximum individual contribution of $2,300 to McCain’s primary fund and another $2,300 to his general election fund. He even tried to give an extra $1,000, but the McCain campaign returned it because it was over the legal limit. Trump was traveling and unavailable for comment. California researcher Danit Aharon was among those who changed her financial allegiance, gving $2,300 to McCain at the end of June. Aharon did not return an email for comment.
Several Democratic defectors contacted by ABCNews.com were reluctant to go on the record with their reasons for defying the party and contributing to McCain.

John Coale is right, and I think it’s great that he came out to the public to show that NOT EVERYONE is on the fakey changey unity bandwagon.

This primary season was extremely disturbing, I felt as if my ideals were crashing in front of my face. Progressives attacking a good hardworking, intelligent woman. A woman who had worked for all people of all different colors. Eathing their own? If this was happening, my whole concept of humanity seemed inadequate. I really was in despair, part of my identity was crumbling.
What I have come to grasp is that life is really about survival of the fittest and if you want your side to win, most will do anything to achieve that end, even if they label themselves as a “peaceful progressive.” What then makes these people any better than the “right” who I have so come to view as “bad”? Answer is, nothing.
I picked up Ron Paul’s book Revolution and was able to understand what true conservatives were and what they wanted. I would define Paul as a compassionate conservative. They themselves were fighting back for their party against the neocons who had taken over and used Gwb as a puppet. I ended up reading books on history, diplomacy, current world events and leaders. I can say my grasp and vision of the world has changed. I have registered as an Independent voter and will not show an allegiance to any political party as of now. It is one of the great dangers to our Democracy, hence the Obambi takeover of the Democratic Party. Why wouldn’t they think, “Where else can they go”?
All this being said, you speak of the character of Senator Mccain and Gov. Palin and I couldn’t agree with you more on the importance of character in a leader. Read THE BUSH TRAGEDY, it is solely based on the character of GWB and how it affected his decision making. Knowing that Obambi has no character, it is highly dangerous to our country if this man enters office.
I have been reading up on Gov. Palin and am truly impressed. I think this whole country has been on a roller coaster ride through this election process and we have all learned something and grown. Without Hillary we would never have had VP nominee Palin. If women didn’t stand with Hillary, we probably wouldn’t have either. The Democratic party needs to fall and rebuild in the classic Democratic tradition. If Obambi gets elected this will not happen, so it is of upmost importance he loses a landslide victory, so we as citizens can have two real choices from Parties for the people. No more puppets! Real leaders who put country first.

Thank you, Beverly, for your comment—it expresses much of what I have experienced this primary season. It is “shaky” ground that I’m on as well with my newly opened eyes. I thought the Democrats were above all the negative, vicious campaigning and could not understand how they adopted Rovian tactics and used them against one of their own (Hillary). Now I understand that the DNC took from the Rovian playbook and then became Rovian themselves. Those are not my principles and tactics. It’s disgusting—-they have become what they have detested. It is like the world has turned upside down, but I’m going to vote for McCain/Palin, too. I’ve researched Palin, too, and have found her to be someone who does have principles, even though I don’t agree with all of them.
With the low approval rating of the Bush administration, perhaps Republican McCain will try even harder to “right the ship,” getting his party back on course toward a more centrist platform. The Dems. seem to be going the way of the neo-con Republicans with their fraudulent selection process.
It does seem like this primary season created a very valid reason to start a 3rd party, made up of both centrist Dems. and centrist Repubs.
I have changed my party registration from Democratic to “decline to state” (independent) here in California. It is freeing!

Good for John Coale; I applaud his candor and bravery. This man surely sees what so many of us do: The restoration of the Democratic Party requires an Obama loss in November and its subsequent purging of the radical-left.
It’s an odd place for a lifelong Dem such as myself to be in, but my principles demand the position I have taken: to give no support to the fraud Obama, and in fact support his defeat.

I just watched the video of Mr Coale and it sounds like more Dems will be becoming out for McCain very soon. Mr Coale seems like a very nice guy with the same concerns that many of us have regarding Obama and the DNC being taken over by MoveOn.

Isn’t it ironic that the news media and left wing blogs like daily kos are fixated on the one thing that makes Sarah Palin different from any other candidate: She’s capable of pregnancy. So is her daughter. Was there this kind of hysteria about Obama’s association with William Ayres? No–in fact, the media won’t even carry it. What about all the other questionable associations in Obama’s life? They’re apparently not newsworthy. The election was officially lost today. While the primary candidates are helping out down South, the Move-on.org crowd morphs back into 1968 Yippys. That worked out real well back in ‘68 and it’ll turn on them again. Coupled with the trashing of the Palin family taking care of their own…what losers.

FYI: (1)Philip Berg filed a motion for a temporary restraining order in federal court in Philadelphia questioning the authenticity of Obama’s Hawaii birth certificate and claiming the Illinois senator was actually born in Kenya, according to court papers.
Though the motion was denied, Berg said he was encouraged that Judge R. Barclay Surrick DID NOT dismiss the lawsuit. The litigation also sought “expedited discovery.”
“We’re still waiting to serve the senator,” Berg said in a telephone interview Wednesday. Discovery would include examining the candidate’s birth certificate and adoption papers, among other documents, Berg said.”On Friday, Judge Surrick denied Berg’s emergency request, Berg said, because Obama had not yet been served with the legal complaint and a summons.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office of the Eastern District of Pennsylvania accepted service of the suit on behalf of the DNC and FEC, according to Berg’s office.Once the senator is served, Berg will be able to move the suit forward in court. The case is still”very alive and active,” according to an e-mail message from his office.The lawyer plans to file another motion for a temporary restraining order once Obama has been served.”
(2)MOVE ON: “We Bought” the Democratic Party
Having already”bought”the party, George Soros(Moveon.org)wanted the Democrats to pick someone who will allow him to act as its absentee owner. He wants to place the party formally under the control of the Shadow Party.
MoveOn PAC successfully influenced the party faithful in choosing the DNC chair and Soros’ ideas found a new outlet. That may represent a great return on investment for George Soros, but it would be disastrous for Democrats…and America.

I would like to add another comment about why I join John Coale and will not vote for Obama. Yesterday, while McCain was traveling to the areas to be hit by the hurricane, Obama said that he was worried that McCain would be usurping resources from those on the ground. Then he said something to the effect that “MY supporters will be happy to volunteer to help out–I can send and email to about 2 million”. Meanwhile, McCain said something to the effect that “I am sure Democrats and Republicans would want to join together . . . ” This is a very telling difference–McCain includes everyone. Obama acts as if he is a general or king who can command his troops and ONLY HIS troops. This is not a uniter, folks. This is a sneak preview of an Obama presidency–beware!
I, too, found McCain’s response form Obama’s starkly starkly different and telling. Any politician who has a “civilian army” at his disposal is frightening indeed! BTW, Obama also supports Black Water.

I just watched the most amazing bit of TV in decades - I cannot wait to see the YouTube version of it. Wolf Ditzer (aka Blitzer) was hosting Gloria Berger, Bill Bennet, Donna Brazille an John King (I believe) on The Situation Room and were discussing young Bristol Palin’s (Governor Palin’s oldest daughter) pregnancy and her plans to have the baby and marry the father. At the center of this discussion was Barack Obama’s call to keep the families (and these personal decisions) off limits. But what does CNN do? They air a woman reporter who ran to Alaska questioning the entire abstinence position of Governor Palin in light of her daughter’s pregnancy. It was pathetic.
Besides the Duh factor that abstinence works every time it is tried (pregnancies being proof of the opposite) Bill Bennet was rightfully outraged at CNN and Blitzer for bringing the Palin family’s personal issues into the debate like this. Bennett was hammering Blitzer who did not want to concede CNN crossed the line.
John King was looking just stunned and as if he was going to get sick. He wanted nothing to do with the muck raking by CNN. And Gloria Berger basically agreed with Bennett and said Bristol Palin should be off limits - and then just sneered at Blitzer and looked apologetically to the camera.
Blitzer ‘the ditz’ was stunned to silence. Only Brazille, the Democrat attack dawg, tried to make some connection. CNN could not keep itself out of the gutter, and fell into the sewer with that one.
I hate to admit it but when I used to watch news on TV that was my station of choice. I liked their coverage during big news events over the decades and as they say, I turned to them first. 911, Shock and Awe, Persian Gulf, etc, they were on it 24/7.
Around the time they got rid of Carville, Begala and Zimmerman, due to pressure from the ob campaign… I got suspicious but gave them the benefit of the doubt.
Donna’s in the tank remarks while saying she was undeclared showed their bias. When they screwed over Lanny and made him wait just to have him face 10 obots who wouldn’t let him speak, they lost me for good.
Same with the NY Times.
Some of these comments mentioned the takeover of the Democrat Party by the moveon.org types. I registered Democrat in the early 70’s. My parents, grandparents, and myself had worked for the party. We worked in elections, we hauled voters, etc. A few years back, I registered as Independent. I began to see the Democrat party leadership infiltrating every organization such as labor unions, minorities, senior citizens, the poor, etc. By promising handouts and delivering them once elected, they are buying the votes of these unsuspecting people. They are making slaves of the voters by making them dependent upon the Democrats and they are slaves themselves because they have sold themselves to whoever is providing the money. This is the way I see it.

Thanks to several alert readers here at No Quarter, I have learned about a new documentary on Caucus Fraud that is just coming out. “We Will Not Be Silenced, ” by Gigi Gaston, came into being according to their website because:
As Americans, we expect certain liberties and rights that were granted us by our forefathers, who wrote documents like the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence. “We the people” expect that these fundamental rights will always be protected.
However, in the current Democratic Presidential Primary, this has not been the case. We believe that the The Democratic National Committee (DNC) made a grave error by depriving American voters of their choice of Hillary Clinton as Democratic nominee. Senator Clinton, by all accounts, except caucuses, won the Primary Election and, therefore, should be the 2008 Democratic Nominee.

There are at least 2000 complaints, in Texas alone, of irregularities directed towards the Obama Campaign, that have lead to a very fractured and broken Democratic Party.
