Blog Round-Up on Gov. Sarah Palin

This is a mix-up of the good, the bad, and the ugly reviews of John McCain’s vice presidential selection. But first, you’ll want to check out the Draft Palin Web site. The site owner has been at it for Sarah Palin since February 2007. I started collecting these about three days ago, and just got around to publishing:

Palin,” by David Frum at the National Review:

The longer I think about it, the less well this selection sits with me. And I increasingly doubt that it will prove good politics. The Palin choice looks cynical. The wires are showing. …

SusanUnPC’s note: Since Frum’s concerns may surprise you, here’s more from Frum: “Palin the irresponsible choice?” (National Post column) and his latest blog post, “My Palin Mailbox - Updating,” today at the National Review.

PALIN A HUGE HIT AT THE CLINTON FORUM,” by Jim Lindgren at Volokh Conspiracy:

You would not believe how the Sarah Palin pick is playing out at the Hillary Clinton Forum. … In order, these are all the posts on the first (and only) page I’ve looked at (page 8 of the Palin thread; . … (Read the comments.)

Palin in the Green Room,” by Karen Breslau at Newsweek:

When Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin arrived backstage for our NEWSWEEK Women & Leadership Event in Los Angeles last March, John McCain had just wrapped up the GOP nomination. Palin had yet to endorse McCain—she liked Mitt Romney—and as we waited in the green room, I urged her to “feel free” to make some news on stage. …

Once onstage, together with Arizona Gov. Janet Napolitano, Palin talked about what women expect from women leaders; how she took charge in Alaska during a political scandal that threatened to unseat the state’s entire Republican power structure, and her feelings about Sen. Hillary Clinton. (She said she felt kind of bad she couldn’t support a woman, but she didn’t like Clinton’s “whining.”) …

Palin’s the One,” by Josh Marshall at Talking Points Memo:

[I]t’s a daring pick but I think a very weak one. I’m perfectly happy with it. Palin is in the midst of a reasonably serious scandal in her home state. …

Next, John McCain’s central and best argument in this campaign is that Barack Obama simply lacks the experience to be President of the United States. And now John McCain, who is a cancer survivor who turns 72 years old today, is picking a vice presidential nominee who has been governor of a small state for less than two years and prior to that was mayor of a town with roughly one-twenty-seventh of the constituents that Barack Obama represented when he was a state senator. …

Whatever you think of Barack Obama’s qualifications to be President, Palin is manifestly less qualified. And that undermines the central premise of McCain’s campaign. …

How Do The Hillary Fans Feel About Palin?,” by Curt at Flopping Aces:

Interesting thread on the Hillary Clinton forum entitled:

Action Items: 1) Donate to McCain to affirm Palin pick; 2) Stay vigilant for all sexism against Palin

It gets better:

Donate to John McCain and Sarah Palin, and let them know you love this pick and are thrilled that McCain showed Palin the respect that Democrats, and Barack “You’re likable enough” Obama in particular, NEVER showed Hillary Clinton:

https://secure.johnmccain.com/Contribute/ContributeE.aspx

Show McCain, Palin and America that you support women in the executive branch!

There are already stunning, sexist attacks against Palin all over the kook blogosphere. Daily Kos is comparing her with Dan Quayle, implying that she is mere eye candy, likely kind of dim-witted, and totally disrespecting her and all women.

Palin was both a mayor and a governor of the largest state in America. And these pigs are just dismissing her as though she were some joke in glasses.

The only party that’s dissed a high-profile woman recently is the Democratic Party. What they did both in rigging the system so Hillary could not win the nomination and what Obama did in utterly disrespecting Hillary by not even vetting her for the VP was unconscionable. A disgrace.

Today, we have a ticket that respects women as equals and recognizing their full worth.

Please, donate to that ticket today and show America that you appreciate this historical McCain/Palin combination, and that you want to help bring America its first-ever female Vice President.

The glass ceiling is cracking. Let’s shatter it!

Comments on the thread pretty much show what many of us suspected. Obama made a huge, freakin HUGE mistake not even vetting Hillary. If Hillary had been chosen as the VP he would have become the next President…but his arrogance and ego wouldn’t let him.

Thank You, John McCain,” by Jeralyn at TalkLeft.com:

The more I’m learning about Gov. Sarah Palin, and now having heard the McCain’s weak justification for it, the more I’m convinced McCain just conceded the election.

Since it is now OK to attack Palin on her abstinence-only sex education programs, when can we start doing the same to Ed Rendell?

Rendell Plans to Ask Feds for $$ for Abstinence-Only Sex Ed.

The Rendell administration is defending its decision to seek $1.7 million dollars in federal funding for abstinence-only sex education programs, which has drawn criticism from progressive groups, including ACT UP.

Even though the Rendell administration has generally spurned funds in the past, Pennsylvania Health Department spokeswoman Claudine Battisti says it doesn’t oppose abstinence programs:

“We just don’t think it should be the only part of sex education.”

But Battista says while it remains committed to its belief in comprehensive sex education, the administration has now decided to allow what amounts to a pass-through of federal dollars to community groups and schools that will have to provide their own matching funds for abstinence-only programs:

“There are people whose moral beliefs, religious beliefs, what have you, really believe this is a viable alternative. So, there are many arguments to this absolutely, but, again, we won’t stand in their way.”

Battisti also says the administration is satisfied that regulations regarding medical accuracy have been tightened.

These so-called Dems are pretty disgusting is the lesson from this past week. They target the daughter to get to the mother until she quits for the sake of the daughter. If the mother doesn’t quit, they will start the meme that she’s a bad mother who doesn’t care that her daughter is being attacked (by them, ironically).

I hope Palin soldiers on and may the backlash blow all these cold-hearted “liberals” down the gutters. A McCain victory is a must now to keep these horrible people from power.

Comment by imustprotest | 2008-09-02 00:49:41

So true. If for no other reason. More power to these obamasoretoro lunatics would be a huge mistake.

Comment by rosered56 | 2008-09-02 01:37:23

Why aren’t they asking Obama the same questions? Why aren’t they telling him to stay home and care of his younger daughters? Hell, look at his so called friends, what kind of example is he setting? Obama should be judged the same way. It’s a two way street. We need to start asking Obama the same questons.

Comment by No Mo, Bo or Stumblin Jo | 2008-09-02 06:26:33

It would be just as fair to question Obama’s judgment in taking his girls to his church.

Why would they think that the selection of Palin would end McCain’s chances in the election? Because her 17 year old daughter got pregnant and because she is keeping the baby? How many of them have been faced with that situation and forced their children to abort so as not to embarrass them or ruin their chances?

How can anyone claim that a 17 year old was not aware of birth control?

Bristol should not be a topic of conversation and I’m angry that the Obama supporters are so weak that they must attack a teenager. Sarah Palin should kick his ass personally.

I agree completely!
Somewhere along the line I reached a tipping point and the Democrats have become anathema to me……I simply cannot recall why I ever supported the Party or voted for Democrats……
either it was a dream or a past life.
I find this incarnation of the Democratic Party to be a whiny, unattractive collection of bitter and cranky angry people with whom I choose to have absolutely nothing to do with.

I didn’t do this…..they threw me under the bus , so I have found some new friends….and like John Coale says…..they dress better

Comment by mimi | 2008-09-02 08:34:51

I concur and I others in cyberspace echoing similar thoughts.

There’s no way of knowing how big our numbers are, but I have a feeling in my gut that they are significant. The Democratic leaders can dismiss us all they want in favor of these new and younger voters, but it’s going to come back and bite them in the ass.

Even if Barack 0bama wins, he will never succeed in satisfying the majority of Americans and therefore will fail. Everything that we are saying about him will prove true. He is not qualified to lead. But it seems is that many in America have to SEE it to believe it.

I’m going to say this again, I was going to vote for McCain no matter who picked. (except Dick Cheney, I draw the line at Cheney) So all of these revelations about Palin are meaningless to me because the do not cancel out 0bama’s inexperience matched with McCain’s, they don’t change the fact that Democratic leadership selected him even before the Primary played out, that the msm has been complicit in this process, refusing to report anything about 0bama the same way that they are now reporting about Palin, that his followers have behaved like Hitler’s Brownshirts, threatening violence, spouting offensive and abusive language on the Internet and out in the real world, the 0bama and his campaign is already engaging in censorship, that 0bama has dubious ties, that 0bama played the race card against the Clintons and his opponents and that sexism has been the order of the day.

Win or lose, the Democratic Party is going to pay. That’s my promise to them. We all just have to be patient to watch it play out.

Agreed, I like the ticket very much. All the so called “dirt” on Palin will backfire. She’s a real, genuine, authentic, principled human being with loads of character and integrity–a very good match for John McCain. They’re both maverick reformers. They can help bring about the real change we all want to see in Washington. They both actually have a track record of bringing about positive changes in government. Obama has a speech. All words, no action. Sort of like all hat and no cattle. ;)

As a Hillary-supporting PUMA, I’ll be voting for McCain-Palin on November 4.

Nothing on Washington Journal ever about Obama’s relationship with Ayers, Auchi, etc.

I remember well - when Obamabots and Obamedia were claiming Hillary’s remark about RFK was really her wish that Obama would be assassinated so she could be the nominee.

iii) He never heard Rev. Wright make controversial remarks-lie
iv)Rezko donations were $150,000-lie
v)He was not aware of Rezko being under Fed. Investigation when he bought his house-lie
v)His uncle helped liberate Auschwich-lie
vi)He would support fillibuster of bill to grant ammunity in FISA Bill-lie

I’m sure there are others I have forgotten, but I want to address your claims.

1.If HIllery wouldve pulled out the race earlier , she wouldve been the VP, Hillery Made the decision to run up her debt, bad decisions make up her resume for VP
2.Obama didnt need Hillery on the ticket
3.Hillery wouldve needed Obama on the ticket no matter what
4.McCains best Offense attack was Hillery in the Primery
5.McCain thought he had a “change agent /Hillery-like VP choice” when Obama Picked “experienced agent” Biden. Palin backfired , but of course duh

1. So, if Hillary had “dropped out” and given the nomination to BO, he would have picked her as VP? Who told you that? She kept fighting through the entire primary because she was winning the popular vote. Ohio,TX,PA,ID,WV,KY,PR and SD. More people voted for her than for any candidate in presidential primary history and she was the first woman to win a primary in history. So, Yeah. Eighteen million people wanted her to continue.
2.Right. He doesn’t need her on the ticket so he doesn’t need her votes. 25% of her voters have said they will vote for McCain. In case you don’t do arithmetic, that is over four million votes. Al Gore lost by 150 in 2000. John Kerry lost by less than a thousand in 2004.
3.No, Hillary would not have needed Obama, but she probably would have asked him AFTER HE HAD BEEN VETTED.
4.What????????
5.Oh yeah! Do you know anything about Biden? No? Well just wait until he starts running his mouth off. Do you remember what he said about Obama when he was a candidate? “I mean, you got the first mainstream African-American who is articulate and bright and clean and a nice-looking guy,” Biden said. “I mean, that’s a storybook, man.” Biden was called a racist for that comment.Check this out.

No matter who McCain chose for his running mate — the Obama tag team would have attacked. Right now it’s easy for them to reuse the sexist sort of attacks they used against Hillary — GASP, but, but — Palin is FEMALE.

I believe that the hidden agenda for the attacks is to keep the attention away from “who the hell is Obama?”

Also, more than likely Sarah Palin is going to be rethinking her — Clinton whines — remark. Palin has the advantage of being from the other party. Clinton just didn’t get the concept that Obama isn’t a real democrat — Obama is an Obamacrat — his ego is all that is needed for a new party.

Since Palin is a Republican and Republicans are ready and willing to fight back — I would be shocked if Barracuda Sarah backs down from this fight.

The Obama nuts have already done the damage — and now she needs to give the speech of her life on Wednesday — I suspect that her speech with break network viewing records.

It is a long long way to 4 November — lots of things will happens. The GOP attack machine has not yet begun to wind up and unload.

Personal attacks seems to be the only thing that the Obama- Axlerod gang has in their bag of tricks.

Comment by OBushMA! | 2008-09-02 01:22:53

Quite a few women thought Hillary was “whining” about sexism early on, then a few months later, they too agreed the sexism was over-the-top and unrestrained. Now Palin has a taste of what Hillary went through for months and months. Of course, Hillary, bless her, turned the other cheek all the way to the end. But I hope Palin brings out her big gun and blows these suckers out of the water. Otherwise, these bullies would never learn.

Comment by elise | 2008-09-02 03:16:36

OBushma, Hillary didn’t get any help from the DNC countering sexist attacks. We, her supporters, emailed, made phone calls and did everything else we could to bring attention to what was going on, but the media was part of the problem so how to get the message out? Women’s groups put up token protests, but were afraid of being called racist. Hopefully, Republicans will fight it in order to win the election.

Comment by jadwiga | 2008-09-02 01:38:21

I agree except for one: Hillary couldn’t fight back the way she would have if Obama was republican. It would have hurt the Democratic Party too much.

She needs to stay above it if she wants to reform the Democratic Party. I believe, this is exactly what she will do.

I own only one vote, but it will be hers - after November.

Comment by OBushMA! | 2008-09-02 02:26:25

Hillary has become a saint in my eyes for enduring all the sticks and stones thrown at her. That she was able to walk away from the most important fight of her career also shows a transcendency of all the sordid dealings of the power hungry beasts in her own party. Many wanted her to fight to the end, but I believe she knew her party needed to be proven wrong by the voters, to learn a lesson in humility that she could not teach without losing her way.

Her path was to focus on policies and not on personality, while BO chose the polar opposite path. We all know that nothing good can come out of a personality cult, and yet the party embraced it without a second thought. Hillary had the admiration of millions but she focused always on what her policies can achieve for all the people she hoped to serve. BO said it was not about him, but he acted for his own benefit at every turn in his career over the good of others. Life’s really not about winning or losing, but about intentions and their realization. Hillary has solid intentions and the path to realization will come to her in time. BO has false intentions and his path of delusion will end with a great fall.

correct; i think hillary is well on the way to being a national icon, if she isn’t already. and if palin becomes the first female vice president, it will be because of the work of hillary, ferraro, and all of the women and men throughout history who supported and fought for equal rights and equal dignity for women.

I think it was a brilliant choice, and yes, a clear move for women’s votes, particularly PUMAs and HRC supporters as well. It reflects some strategy above this, too:

It forces the awful sexist racist Obama democrats to show themselves and not hide behind attacking HRC.

It traps obama into talking about experience and comparing himself to the VP instead of McCain, and makes it “fair game” to go after every skeleton in Obama and Michelle’s closets.

Its too late for obama to claim “I’ll fire anyone who did this”, it is his pattern. He wants hands off families? Nope, he’s not going to get it.

Having said that, the next people the media and obama will turn on is us: can you hear it? “those clinton women just want a woman, how shallow they are”…

we can defeat this easily by pointing out that real women (and men) can disagree and also work together.

update, i just saw obama talking about Palin and laughing about her small town. he is such a dufus for once again diminishing small town people. he will lose women consistently if he continues to ridicule us. what a clown.

Northwest rain -

I respectfully disagree about you saying the republicans are able and willing to fight back. That may have been true in 2000 or 2004 with Karl Rove running the show, but the McCain campaign does not seem to be up for the fight. The only response from the Republicans today was to praise BO for his saying to back off Palin. Other than that they just let her get butchered by the media and kos. I think the media has already defined her in a even worse light than Quayle. I fully expect McCain will order the convention to continue tommorrow in a non- partisian way, and the media will continue to butcher her and her children.

I lean your way there jwjr, but am curious about the timing.
And that is the frikken Rub… If it really is a bombshell that would blow him away with no hope at all, they may play it early.
Remember, just like all the speculation before the actual Colorado Coronation as to what might happen with Hillary, nobody could really tell what was to go down.
Now, McCain and Palin aren’t even the formal nominees yet so we must hang on for a short while before knowing if they have possible scenario number 1, da bomb… This still means only that they might use it early.
My bet is that McCain/Palin will take the moral high ground and not stoop to Barry’s level.
What may happen instead will be an assault by the R 527’s that will deafen the cries of Barry’s minions…
Like they have already said.

This is like when McCain made nicey-nice by doing the ad congratulating Obama on the day of his “historic nomination”, and then the next day -
WHAM- slammin him over the head with the Palin baseball bat.

Don’t worry about the Republicans’ apparent lack of response on this one.

Also, 0bama right now is letting his minions in the msm do his dirty work.

And so, the Republicans are going about Convention business, raising money for Hurricane victims and getting through this week.

In the meantime, Botheads are showing what absolute jerks they are.

When the Repubs retaliate, what are they going to say?

The word unfair comes to mind, but who will have sympathy for them at that point?

Comment by Rev. Wright, can you fix my garlic nose? | 2008-09-02 09:31:54

mimi,

I’m a Republican, and I know that the base is fired up over the Palin pick. Expect some mention of the abuse at the convention - not a full frontal attack against Obama (on this point alone), but some reference to the unwarranted attacks against Palin.

Conservative 527s are now ready willing and able to throw down on behalf of McCain. You know the way Dems were about Kerry…”I’ll hold my nose and vote for him”…that’s the way a lot of Republicans were about McCain before he picked Gov. Palin.

My opinion about the Obot MSM and the Palin “controversy” is, to coin a phrase:
sound and fury signifying nothing.

Because when those politically tone deaf idiots keep harping on Bristol’s pregnancy, Middle America is seeing someone in their family criticized: a niece, a sister, a daughter, themselves, even…and it opens up the question in the viewer’s mind: What is the big deal, why are we not talking about the Presidential candidate?

New Rasmussen poll out two hours ago. It seems people really like Palin though most people still don’t know her that well yet. 53% favorable!

A poll on who people would prefer to meet ranks Obama at #1 with 43% and Palin is #2 at 30%, McCain at 17% and Biden at 6%.

What I find funny is that Dems prefer to meet Obama by 69% (no shock there), but 14% of Dems would prefer to meet Palin and Biden… well, he’s at 9%.

Obama: 47% w/ leaners 49%
McCain: 44% w/ leaners 46%

Palin is popular. And men really like her. I don’t understand why women overwhelmingly prefer Obama though.

Obama has favorable reviews from 85% of Dems.
McCain has favorable reviews from 90% of GOP.

McCain’s numbers are going up. Attacks on Palin seem to be backfiring.

The Republicans now like McCain MORE than the Dems like Obama!!!

No free-thinking Dems can stomach the overbearing BO people anyway, and they know BO will not deliver on any of his liberal talking points. I think it’s rather smart for the Republicans to let the Democrats set the bar so low for Palin that she won’t help but do well. I think this “bimbo” is going to surprise a lot of people with her intelligence and her ability to speak off the cuff in complete sentences unlike some people we know.

Comment by Obama is a bum | 2008-09-02 01:32:40

McCain was in a bind on this VP selection since no matter who he picked he was not going to satisfy a lot of people. Romney was the front runner but McCain did not have chemistry with him and the Huckabee people would have complained. Had McCain picked Huckabee the Romney people would have complained. McCain wanted Liberman and Ridge but the base would have gotten mad with either of those picks. Pawlenty is a second term Governor who I thought he would finally settle on.

Palin’s resume appears thin but she has been in government since 1992 in positions of Governor, O&G Conservation Commision, Mayor, and City Counsil. Unfortunately, a handicap for Palin is she is a women where there is still a large group of people in this country who are opposed to a woman rising to VP or president.

Obama and the Democrats want to run against Bush and Palin. I can never recall someone trying to run against another who was not even on the ticket and this is the second time I can remember the nominee for president trying to run against the opponent’s VP — the other time was Dan Qualye.

Trying to run against a mythical candidate like Bush may backfire on Obama, it shows how much he is out of touch. Obama trying to run against Palin may backfire as well. Trying to point out Palin’s inexperience only puts Obama’s inexperience on the table. Where Palin actually worked at her jobs, Obama rarely did. Obama had chances in the state senate where he sat there and voted “present” about 130 times and even pressed the wrong button 6 times. He also sat in the US Senate where he did nothing but run for president. Obama is a good example of a lazy government employee who accomplishes little.

Mr. X -

That poll is from this morning, before the bloodletting by the media, and considering that the media just had a collective orgasm over BO saying the media should back off, and then that praise by the media was reinforced by republicans on TV all night praising BO, my guess is McCain will drop in the polls tommorrow. Then he will have his convention tommorrow, but order nobody to attack BO out of respect for the hurricane victims, while at the same time the media and daily kos will continue their rampage, all while BO is telling all his henchmen to back off (wink wink) the media will once again praise him for what a statesmen he is, and the republican talking heads will follow suit on TV at the end of the night. Looks real bad for McCain, but he has nobody to blame but himself. If his campaign would have immediatly came out and told the media to back the fuck off, then maybe people would have seen the biased media for what they are, but instead the only person that came to her defense was BO (even though he was the one who fueled it from the start) so basically BO got to have his cake and eat it too.

Comment by Dr. Kate | 2008-09-02 01:42:32

no, McCain played it smart. he let the dems and obama hang themselves with this bullshit attack. now McCain set him up for an ad on his pattern of letting these attacks occur and then disavowing them. that is not leadership.

and now he has to apologize (he should, but he won’t) but can’t help himself diminishing others, especially women…just saw him again doing that.

He is so full of himself he does not see he is making an ass out of himself, thus leaving him completely open to his skeletons falling out of the closet, one by one, until he is so damaged he will never survive.

And he will lose in a historic landslide. end of his story, except the “memoirs of a presidential candidate from jail”

Comment by NoBamaNoWay | 2008-09-02 05:20:29

you’re right; the attacks should be answered with facts and logic, but the insane obamacrat/media tool feeding frenzy is going to backfire and piss people off. their true character is showing again. nasty little punks, all of them.

Comment by OBushMA! | 2008-09-02 01:44:00

This is typical BO logic. His minions/associates act like freaks, and BO placates/slaps them to get the media to lick his ass. It’s been done so many times. Do you really think Americans are so stupid they won’t see the pattern?

Even obots in their cult-like coccoon are not that stupid, they just pretend it’s okay if their cult leader wins in the end. Eventually their conscience will wear them down, and they have to admit it was foolish to sacrifice all their human decency just to win.

Comment by Clinton Fan | 2008-09-02 08:57:08

You can’t go to that well too often. The blowback ruins “authenticity” and it’s already happening with Obama.

After a while it looks like this to the average voter: Even Obama’s SUPPORTERS don’t listen to him! He says stop, they refuse! If he can’t control his rabid base, he’s NOT READY TO LEAD!

The theme that follows is: Obama is disengenous. Axelrod is worse than Rove, they’re using Rovian tactics and trying to play the naive dummy about it. Only evil politicians use those kinds of tactics. Obama=Bush.

I am continually amazed at how dense a lot of these guys on the left are. They are in such denial. There they are, yelling and attacking Fox News for helping “steal the election” in 2000, and they are completely unwilling to look at the real caucus fraud in their own party. And as much as we try to articulate what the issues are, they just don’t get it. Then they keep trying to make out like there aren’t that many of us. Are they really that dumb?

Comment by JM08 | 2008-09-02 01:53:54

First off Obamas henchmen have no conscience. Anybody that will butcher a teen age pregneant girl and a 4 month old down syndrom baby, are not going to “come around” thats wishful thinking.

Secondly Obama is not hanging himself. I mean if the GOP had a ad planned showing this pattern of BO attacking and then disavowing, the republicans would not have gone out of their way to praise him tonight for his response. And obviously the praise was coordinated by the McCain campaign because everyone was using all the same talking points.

Everybody keeps assuming the republicans are the same party that they were when they were being ran by Rove.

The fact is that when McCain said he was going to run a respectful campaign, he actually obviously meant it. I admire him for his wanting to be a good person, but the fact is playing nice is a recipe for disaster when your going up against a ruthless win at all costs campaign ran by David Axelrod.

Comment by MMI | 2008-09-02 03:02:05

I have been speaking to people across the country, and most find the attacks against Palin’s daughter disgusting and they recognize that there is both overt and covert sexism in the coverage of Palin.

They are trying to egg McCain and Palin into making mistakes. I think the McCain campaign is handling this the right way. Speaking about this only draws more attention to it. McCain wants to keep the focus on hurricane relief and the convention. Palin can’t let herself be distracted. Right now, the best way for her to fight back is to give a solid acceptance speech. That’s true for McCain too. Let’s wait and see how this plays out the next few days.

I just read this book, it’s a good account of her political career. A fast easy read. Democrats, Republicans and Independents all love our Alaskan Governor. She has an average approval rating of 80% and as high as 90%. No other governer in the union can match that. She has been the under dog in every campaiqn, an AP article says, ” the landscape in Alaska is litered with her political rivals.” I work with a mechanic that has sat on the hockey benches with her and chat while their children played hocky together. He has great respect for her and for what she has done to clean up our government. There is a shirt I’ve seen that says, ” Sarha Palin for 2008, because america needs a good spanking.” Those good old boys in DC won’t know what hit them.

A paragraph from the book. ” At forty-two, Sarah becomes the youngest governor in Alaska history and the first woman elected to the office. Her public approval rating is the highest of any governor in the nation. She has a gift for connecting with people, possesses a steely resolve, and competes with fierce tenacity. The biggest mistake her adversaries make is underestimating her.” -Kaylene Johnson

John Mccain is either the most brilliant man in the world or forrest gump. he probably did know about Bristol pregnancy. Infact it’s brilliant. Number one, conservatives are going to rally around her especially since she keeps the baby, Number two obamabots and the press would attack bristol making themselves look bad, and number 3 hillary clinton supporters would run to protect her because a. we don’t like obama,b. because we don’t like MSM right now,and c. we are sick of women being bullied in this campaign. John mccain is like a box of chocolate you don’t know what you are going to get. this alone makes him white house worthy.

Why are people so anti babies. everyone is a baby at some time. Babies have to be born =cant get them at the supermarket.

17 years is not too young. Bristol may be 18 by te time of birth & it is a scientific act that the best age to have a child -at the perfect biological time-is 19 years old.
In russia 19 is the average age fir 1st babies. (Remember how good looking Anna kournikova’s mum was in the stands -yeah well she was only mid 30s).

A baby with a young mum & lots of support is very lucky.

My mom was 19 when she delivered me.

She was a respectable married woman, but a little bit off the mark when it came to our family tradition of shotgun weddings.

My grandparents’ oldest child was two years old before they got around to making it legal. Current crop of cousins manifests every variation and permutation of family arrangements, the Gen Xers seem to have the babies first, then get married.
I talked to a 40something cousin of mine yesterday, inquiring about his six month old twin boys. I wasn’t sure if he and his longtime girlfriend, the twins’ mom, had gotten married yet. They purchased a house together, they have sons, they just don’t have a marriage license.

The Palin daughter’s pregnancy will only magnify the Palins’ “authenticity quotient”. And it has elevated the Governor’s stature among pro-lifers, because she is not just pro-life on the Mom level, she is also now pro-life on the Grandmom level.

(and back to your point about young mothers: yes, I grew up with strangers thinking my mom was my older sister!)

Well the issue with Palins daughter is what is going on all over America, young people making a choice and family standing by it together, it is happening to many , grandparents at 40 is no a big issue, this enlightens the fact that they are alot closer, to the average Americans rather than the elitest from
Chicago.
This highlights that more and more grandparents are raising children and grandchildren, the is highlights the love and conviction she has for her family. I applaud her, and it is a issue that affects many across America, and it is a issue she can talk about with out being critized for not being there at a time when her daughter needs her the most. I applaud her, Palin will be admired more from those single mothers , and mothers.
I like palin, i dont agree with some but, i admire her for thking on the Obozos, and she will overcome their stupidity, that woman can not balance , job , marriage , children, because many of us woman do it all, why our husbands are deployed, , it makes us stronger . Nobama ever. McCain Palin 2008

The attacks on Palin are a cry of despair from the Obama camp.

If politics were a game of chess, we would say the Republicans have taken the Democrats’ queen.

The more the Obamots, the mainstream media, and the “progressive” blogs attack Palin, the more voters will be reminded of what these people did to Hillary.

The Republicans have also neutralized Hillary’s effectiveness as a campaigner for Obama–which is good news for PUMAs. The more Hillary campaigns for Obama, the more people will remember Obama’s attacks on her.

Ergo, the Democrats are screwed.

Now they have pictures of Bristols boyfriend over at the huff & puff!

These folks will not be happy until they destroy young kids. How sick is it for a bunch of middle aged folks to have pics of this young guy and remark on his looks?

No one can tell me that Obama isn’t at the root of this. Until he goes after these folks (including the NYT!) he is trying to reap the rewards of this smear machine.

I’m so heartbroken for Bristol and now her boyfriend.

The more Hillary is out there campaigning for Obama the people are realizing and getting mad that Obama did not chose Hillary. Then those people are now turning to McCain and Palin! Obama is going down.
Finally after they ruined the Democratic party. The DNC is corrupt.

BTD (longtime Obama supporter) at TL is pretty upset at the “Palin’s jihad” being waged by the left. Good for him:

A personal note –I am not comfortable with writing about this election right now. I am not comfortable with the behavior of some Democrats and Left blogs regarding Sarah Palin. Of course everyone is entitled to their own views on this and I respect that. But I am entitled to mine as well. I am going to take a break and see how I feel next week.

Comment by Marjorie | 2008-09-02 08:28:34

““Palin in the Green Room,” by Karen Breslau at Newsweek:
as we waited in the green room, I urged her to “feel free” to make some news on stage. …

Once onstage, together with Arizona Gov. Janet Napolitano, Palin talked about what women expect from women leaders; how she took charge in Alaska during a political scandal that threatened to unseat the state’s entire Republican power structure, and her feelings about Sen. Hillary Clinton. (She said she felt kind of bad she couldn’t support a woman, but she didn’t like Clinton’s “whining.”) …”

Breslau’s indirect quote on Palin’s on not supporting Clinton due to Clinton’s ‘whining’, is not in keeping with the rest of the paragraph. Was this said on stage and does a record of this comment exist? I question this because Palin was so enthused about Clinton and the cracks in the glass ceiling when McCain introduced her as his VP last week. Was this wishful thinking on the part of Breslau or is this a contradiction on the part of Palin? ‘Whining’ was an interesting choice of words, as that was one of Obama’s cohort’s terms used against Clinton.

Susan,
Some interesting information that I came across:
As Governor of Alaska, Palin commands Alaska’s 49th Missile Defense Battalion…which is always on duty…missile interceptor defense system.
Also the Alaska State Defense Force, a militia incorporated into Homeland Security.
She receives briefings on classified military issues, homeland security, and counter-terrorism.
She supposedly met with McCain, in secret, in Feburary.
She may be as “able” as Biden!

Comment by fif | 2008-09-02 08:54:06

Please note: the MSM is pushing the lie that Palin called Hillary a whiner. If you see the quote in context, she says she felt bad for Hillary, because if she defended herself it would be PERCEIVED BY PEOPLE (who dislike her) as whining. Big difference. But they don’t want to give us the context do they, because they have an agenda.

Comment by Rev. Wright, can you fix my garlic nose? | 2008-09-02 09:20:22

It so doesn’t matter.

These MSM and botworlds and everyone else are so frickin stupid obsessing over a teenage girl’s pregnancy and her Down’s syndrome little brother.

They are going to be KO’d by the sidewinder that comes their way after the Republican convention.

Thank you, fif, for the clarification. I suspected as much given the way the paragraph was written–all direct quotations, except for the indirect quotation at the end on “whining.” The term “whining” did not fit with the language Palin had used earlier, nor with the tone of her comments.

Comment by Marjorie | 2008-09-02 09:27:17

fif, where did you find the context of the quote?

This is the part that is the scariest to me. The msm’s agenda. Even if I liked 0bama, which I don’t, with such overt preferential treatment, I would not vote for him.

This is a democracy! The media is picking our candidates now?

I DON’T THINK SO!

Be warned people. This is not a healthy sign.

Remember, they also sold Bush’s war.

How is this any different????

Sarah may be able to take her baby to work with her and nurse during a meeting as Governor of Alaska - a state with a population of 626,000 people. It is a different story being the VP of the United States. No CEO in any corporation would do such a thing. I think a woman with children is certainly capable of being the VP or president of the US, but I do question the judgment and “family first” priority of a new mother with a newborn having special needs.

When it comes down to it, where will her allegiance be? With the MILLIONS of people relying upon her to lead the country, or with her children, whether they be pregnant, sick or whatever the issue? Will she be in the Middle East brokering a peace deal and suddenly have to fly home to attend to the health care needs of her infant son? She would be a cruel, heartless mother if she did no less, but she will be an ineffective, laughable joke of a world leader if she places her family priorities ahead of her country.

Comment by Andy | 2008-09-02 13:07:55

Why? What’s wrong with the father?? Where I work we have parental leaves for the FATHER who –in my profession– is the one usually spending more time at home after the 2 months leave buisness give the mother. And FATHERS do a damn good job.

Your comment seems pretty backwards socially and culturally. It is a complete fallacy nowadays.

Comment by LindaA1 | 2008-09-02 13:38:08

The question is “how would a man in the Presidency handle the same situation?”

In a real world, he would stay in the Middle East brokering the deal for the good of humankind while his wife and family care for the sick child - and then return home as quickly as possible.

It would be a stressful, heartbreaking situation but that’s the kind of sacrifices the leader of the free world makes.

I fully trust Sarah Palin to know her priorities and attend to them appropriately. She apparently has a wonderful, loving husband and family who can step in to cover the “wife and mother” role if necessary.

Think outside the box - it’s a new world for women politicians and the public who elects them.

Comment by wodiej | 2008-09-02 15:32:53

how in the HELL would you have any idea what a mother is or isn’t capable of?? BASED ON FUCKING WHAT?? Your “superior knowledge”?? Are you a woman, ever been pregnant, ever nursed or cared for a child? No I didn’t think so. When a man can give birth then they can pass out advice otherwise opening that hole in your face just shows further proof of the empty space between your ears.

Have you noticed how zealously the Republicans are keeping Palin away from reporters and questions? There is a very good reason. They would quickly penetrate the public, sanitized “veneer” of VP candidate Palin. Newsweek says it best “There’s no better measure of her (Palin)character and convictions than dueling with press and the public on a regular basis.” Women should be disgusted with the way that they are being manipulated by the MCCain campaign. I would vote for my grandmother for VP, even though she passed away several years ago before I would cast a vote for Palin. She is the worst credentialed and experienced VP candidate in the history of the U.S. We absolutely cannot afford to put in office a person as VP that is not fully vetted BY THE PUBLIC AND PRESS!
