John Lennon, Meet Hillary Clinton and Sarah Palin

The treatment Sarah Palin has enjoyed during her first 4 days as McCain’s running mate is disgusting. I hope she watched what happened to Hillary, because the same horrible people are using the same tactics. It’s an indication of how much the politics of governing doesn’t matter that the same type of attacks are used against two women with very different political leanings. Get that? It’s NOT ABOUT THE POLITICS.

How do they do this? By making the candidate look as small as possible. How do you do that? You attack on a personal level - particularly if you cannot really attack someone’s positions or experience.

Let’s review, shall we?

In Hillary’s case, her positions on issues were more attractive to the primary voters, so attacks were leveled against her as a wife (she can’t keep “house”), mother (pimping out Chelsea), and woman (cackles, appearance, etc). Attacks were leveled against her husband (racist, not THAT good a president, crazy, out-of-control). The only attacks I remember against Chelsea directly involved her looks.

Read the rest ->
All these attacks were clothed as “real journalism” and worthy of constant comment. Need a reminder of some of this? Good, because I’ve got a list:

* On his radio show Glenn Beck called Senator Clinton “. . . the stereotypical bitch” and he said “After four years, don’t you think every man in America will go insane?” or “. . .there is a range in women’s voices that experts say is just the chalk, I mean, the fingernails on the blackboard.”

In reply Mr. Andros said, “Oh my gosh, she could be talking about how she’s giving every American a million dollars, and I’m hearing, “Could you take out the garbage now?”

* Marc Rudov said, “You know what? The woman is not called a B-word because she’s assertive and aggressive; she’s called a B-word because she acts like one,” and “Men are depressed, and it’s their own fault, because men are allowing women to take over the world.” How about he says when asked about the downside of having a female president, “You mean besides the PMS and the mood swings, right?”

* CNN’s Alex Castellanos asserted, “And some women, by the way, are named that [white bitch] and it’s accurate” or when he suggested that if Clinton were Sen. Barack Obama’s vice president, “I think Barack Obama would have to hire a food tester …”

Fox’s Mort Kondracke said “Well, this person says Hillary’s a vampire. She’s sucking the blood out of Barack Obama.”

* NPR’s Ken Rudin stated, “[L]et’s be honest here, Hillary Clinton is Glenn Close in Fatal Attraction. She’s going to keep coming back, and they’re not going to stop her.”

* On MSNBC David Shuster presented Tucker Carlson with “a Hillary laughing pen” where the mouth moves and the pen makes a laughing noise. In response, Carlson stated: “I can’t tell you, David, how much I appreciate this. . . ”

* On MSNBC Pat Buchanan asserted that when Clinton “raises her voice, and when a lot of women do, you know, it’s — as I say — it reaches a point … where every husband in America … has heard at one time or another.” or when he said,”It’s very difficult for women to reach those kinds of levels effectively, as it is to make them sort of a rally speech. They’re not good at that.”

* Tony Hendra, at the bastion of quality political thinking known as Huffington Post, imagined, “Wednesday morning, a crazed grin splitting her Chucky-like cheeks, Clinton told her staff: “All my life I’ve felt I was a man trapped in a woman’s body!” No-one disagreed.”

* John Eskow , also at the HuffyPot, said, “Her cause is herself. Her feminism is a feminism of convenience. Her concern for kids — which surely once must’ve been real and profound — has turned into a breezy willingness to “obliterate” them. . . ”

* David Rees, yet again at the HuffyPot, titled his carefully researched article “Journey To The Center Of Hillary Clinton’s Mind: ‘Why Would I Drop Out Before Barack Obama Is Assassinated?’”

* And where do I start with MoDo? Blech.

* How about Mike Barnicle on MSNBC saying Clinton “look[ed] like everyone’s first wife standing outside a probate court. . . ”

* Bill Kristol on Fox News said that among the only people supporting Hillary Clinton were white women, and “[w]hite women are a problem, that’s, you know — we all live with that.”

* CNN’s Jack Cafferty likened Clinton to “a scolding mother, talking down to a child. . .”

* MSNBC’s Tucker Carlson announced that “when [Clinton] comes on television, I involuntarily cross my legs.”

* At MSNBC, Chris Matthews, repeatedly dismissed, insulted and belittled Senator Clinton. He said “I hate her. I hate her. All that she stands for.”

* Or how about MSNBC’s slimy Keith Olbermann whose many pontifications on Senator Clinton regularly veered into insanity, such as when he referred to what Democrats needed to force Senator Clinton from the race, and said, “Somebody who can take her into a room and only he comes out.”

And that’s only a partial media list as anyone who followed this knows by now. Obama’s campaign made good use of the race card when indirectly accusing both Clintons of racism. Obama also used sexist themes, saying Clinton was “likable enough,” “periodically lashed out” when she wasn’t feeling well and used his campaign’s music background to label Clinton a “bitch” not worthy of his time.

Now we come to Sarah Palin. So, what high falutin tactics on the political high road have we seen in her 4 days as a candidate?

Well, Andrew Sullivan questions whether Trig is Sara’s son. He wants proof from an obstetrician. He’s been flogging this story despite the utter stupidity of it. Here is what this ethically-challenged dude has to say today:

. . . what harm would it do to release the medical records showing that Sarah Palin delivered Trig on April 18 in Wasilla? This is not hard: there must be an obstetrician, medical records, and data that can easily refute this rumor. It is not out of the ordinary either: candidates routinely issue medical records. So let’s have them. And then we can move on.

(This is the bulk of the “story” if you want to go, do it. I refuse to link to this trash.)
Know what this is though? It’s a guy trying to justify his earlier bs by pretending that proof would allow everyone to “move on.” So, he’s doing the CYA dance.

However.

This is also a bullying tactic. He’s trying to get Palin to answer to him, no matter how ridiculous the charge. Just because he can. It’s so high school and he never grew up, did he?

In an amazingly snide piece, Richard Cohen at the WaPo gives another anti-Palin screed. Only this time she’s compared to Caligula’s horse. I kid you not.

One of the great sights of American political life — a YouTube moment if ever there was one — was to see the doughboy face of Newt Gingrich as he extolled the virtues of Sarah Palin, a sitcom of a vice presidential choice and a disaster movie if she moves up to the presidency: “She’s the first journalist ever to be nominated, I think, for the president or vice president, and she was a sportscaster on local television,” Gingrich said on the “Today” show. “So she has a lot of interesting background. And she has a lot of experience. Remember that, when people worry about how inexperienced she is, for two years she’s been in charge of the Alaska National Guard.”

It’s a pity Gingrich was not around when the Roman Emperor Gaius Julius Caesar Augustus Germanicus, better known by his nickname Caligula, reputedly named Incitatus as a consul and a priest. Incitatus was his horse.

Cohen, rediscovering his childhood love of mud pies and name-calling, is reducing all Palin’s experience to the level of a horse. A horse gets ridden, has no choice in where it goes with a bit between its teeth and is considered a “beast of burden.”

When reminded that Palin did have responsibilities as governor to use the National Guard if necessary, and that Alaska is closer to a potentially hostile power than other states, Cohen had this pithy statement:

Still, you have to admit that in all that time, especially since Palin became governor about two years ago, no Russian invasion force has come across the strait, maybe because she was in charge of the Guard, maybe because she herself is a hunter and an athlete. The record is unclear because no high-ranking Russian appeared on any of the weekend talk shows to say how they had considered an invasion of Alaska and then backed off when Sarah Palin became commander in chief of the Alaska National Guard. Who could blame them?

No one claimed Palin spent her time repelling invading forces across the Bering Strait. However, being aware of your neighbors is something everyone does, whether in the neighborhood or in geo-politics. It’s called “situational awareness.” Trying to make Palin look small because she knows exactly where Alaska is, is, well, kind of stupid. So is making fun of her for hunting. Everyone seems to think it’s hip for Obama to shoot some hoops while wearing a USMC t-shirt.

Alan Colmes has already questioned Palin’s ability as a gestating mother and asks whether she and her husband eloped. The first is unacceptable and the second simply stupid. Naturally, Colmes has taken these bits off his website. Must have been embarrassed. I doubt he grew a conscience.

Today’s NYT has a story about Palin as a mother that also references the famous “mommy wars.” I really hate this piece. It totally takes out her husband’s likely contributions as a parent and, quite frankly, outlines the subtle or not so subtle attacks to be lobbed against Palin for the rest of her political career. (Look for Michelle to talk more about “keeping house.”)

But since then, as mothers across the country supervise the season’s final water fights and pack book bags, some have voiced the kind of doubts that few male pundits have dared raise on television. With five children, including an infant with Down syndrome and, as the country learned Monday, a pregnant 17-year-old, Ms. Palin has set off a fierce argument among women about whether there are enough hours in the day for her to take on the vice presidency, and whether she is right to try.

————————–

“When I first heard about Palin, I was impressed,” said Pamela Moore, a mother of two from Birmingham, Ala. But upon reading that Ms. Palin’s special-needs child was three days old when she went back to work, Ms. Moore began questioning the governor’s judgment. Partly as a result, she plans to vote for Senator Barack Obama.
——————–

“You can juggle a BlackBerry and a breast pump in a lot of jobs, but not in the vice presidency,” said Christina Henry de Tessan, a mother of two in Portland, Ore., who supports Mr. Obama.
————————

And upon hearing Monday that Ms. Palin had known of the pregnancy of her 17-year-old daughter, Bristol, before accepting the vice-presidential slot, some wondered why she had not bypassed the offer in order to spare her daughter the scrutiny.

————————–

“I know now that it was virtually impossible for me [former Gov. of MA Jane Swift] to take advice and make decisions when I was responding emotionally as a mother, not thinking rationally as a public official,” she wrote in an essay in Boston magazine.

See this? Watch for stories about whether Palin is a “good mother” who devotes herself to her family or whether she’s “selfish” and pursues her opportunities. No stories, however, on Palin’s husband and his parenting. Since he left his job to avoid conflict of interest issues in Alaska, it could easily be supposed he would become the caretaker parent. I see stay-at-home dads at the park these days; what’s the problem here?

I hate this. I hate this. I hate this. I hate this. Discuss her positions on issues, discuss her experience (although how anyone could argue it’s less than Obama’s is beyond me) or discuss her appeal to voters.

Her family should be left out of it. Her kids should be left alone. Her body should be off limits to stupid pundits - particularly someone like Sullivan who has famously advertised for “bareback” partners despite his positive HIV status.

If Palin’s family is taken apart, Obama’s family should be as well. Get grandma out of her nursing home and ask her a few questions. Get Michelle’s OB to issue a statement about her children. Ask Michelle why she accepted a high paying job when she could have stayed home with the kids. Ask whether Barack is a fit parent because of his associations with Ayers and Rezko. Ask if exposing his daughters to a racist theology is good for their development.

Oh, yeah. I can see it now. Michelle as the “good mother” and Palin as the “ambitious” mother. Blech.

So, look for more “stories” like these. Look for Obama’s campaign attacking Palin along the same lines Hillary was attacked and along the lines of her family history. Look for these idiots to question her loyalty and love for her kids and her ability to handle a job despite the presence of her spouse. Look for them to reduce her accomplishments to ambition, lack of love for her children, small town politics, second tier state governor, not so successful hockey mom, shallow woman.

Look for these losers to cloak their attacks in concern about the “vetting process,” since that’s an indirect way to attack Palin. Look for them to call for her to drop out “for the good of her family.” For the good of her wonderful special needs baby who must surely need so much care Palin cannot rely on the child’s father and must leave public life.

Obama will probably pronounce her “likable enough,” don’t you think?

Unfortunately, it looks like John Lennon and Yoko are still right:

Seems like you’re in the minority:

Here’s a finding from Gallup: Among Democratic women — including those who may be disappointed that Hillary Clinton did not win the Democratic nomination — 9% say Palin makes them more likely to support McCain, 15% less likely.

I personally feel that this statistic is meaningless because it obviously would have to include a lot of Obama supporters who would obviously say “less”. Even so the numbers aren’t that far apart, so I rest my case.

Well, this sums up a lot of the points. There is a play to some sort of stereotyping of roles here. (dare I mention, “stereotyping” used to be a synonym for “racism”) The Obama campaign is in a rotten place, because they can’t compare his experience to McCain’s for a number of reasons, and experience is a strong deciding factor for many people. What to do? Set off a campaign against the VP! Dumb as it is in many ways, it could be their best move right now.

However, it could have a really bad backlash with women, as it is now obvious the bias is against women: not issues, not Clintons, but women. Especially powerful women, or women controlling men. Contrast the minds that think this way with the many modern men who are quite capable around the house, and with children. Men and women have somewhat different ways of handling things, but it seems to work out for the children, so what’s the fuss?

I must be one of the 9%. But then I live in Obama’s neighborhood and am very aware of what he has not done for his constituents. The running joke is that every time he gets elected to a position (using Chicago style tactics) he prepares for the next and writes a book. We should each get a portion of the profits here in Illinois as he was getting rich on our time, and tax dollars while nothing got done.

Palin accomplished quite a bit during her tenure as governor. Does the pre-marital pregnancy of her daughter, and her trying to bring justice to a situation where a man abused his wife and child compare to Obama’s unethical behavior (Rezko, dirty Chicago politics)and position legarding live birth? No- her integrity stand far abov his.

But, like the black lady on CNN, Obama has 2 months. If he keeps being the racist, misyogist that he is he will see what my vote will be like in Nov-08.

I’m not sure I understand your point. Why do you think liberal women would be jumping on the conservative bandwagon just because McCain picked a woman? And what is it about that clip that you perceive as bad news?

If you personally are basing your political decisions on the gender of the candidates, you are on a different page than most of us. That was not the point of this post. Rampant and revolting sexism was the point. If that is something you enjoy engaging in then, once again, you are on a different page than most of us.

Comment by HotGreen | 2008-09-02 12:47:52

There are several issues here. First of all, Palin is going to be attacked… it’s politics.

Sarah Palin and her husband chose to parade their daughter in front of millions on Friday and they were hiding the fact that she was pregnant by shielding her stomach with the youngest child and a blanket. I think if they would have been forthcoming with the public in the beginning, this would not be an issue (which personally I could care less if the girl is pregnant or not). The simple fact that the parents were hiding this from the public makes them untrustworthy. The announcement was made as the hurricane hit, how tacky!

Finally, all of you so called women and PUMA’s should stop beating a dead horse. You guys attack Obama with unfounded “facts” on a daily basis. The fact is Palin was not vetted due to McCain’s hast in choosing her. If you think Troopergate is the only skeleton in her closet think again and get your tissues out.

Comment by roseeriter | 2008-09-02 12:51:11

Well hotgreen when Obama gets vetted maybe we’ll ease up but Obama has not been vetted. Too many unanswered questions. HOT GREEN: You’re an idiot!

It was Sarah’s moment on Friday and it SHOULD NOT have been overshadowed by an “oh by the way my daughter is pregnant statement.”

The daughter being pregnant has nothing to do with the Vice Presidential position period! Do you get it you pig! Obama’s mother was 17 and pregnant out of wedlock with a married man’s child so cut the double standard will you.

You absolutely disgust me and just make that much more determined to make sure Obama doesn’t reach the White House by voting for McCain.

Are you so stupid to not realize that by attacking Palin’s daughter it is galvanizing more and more women to stick up for Sarah. It happens in the best of families because when a teen decides to have sex there is no stopping them. They maybe won’t do it at your house but they’ll do it somewhere else. Life happens so grow up you moron!

Comment by Factor_X | 2008-09-04 14:21:50

My question for you is this…
If Palin has such a great abstinence plan, like she said, then why is her own daughter pregnant? Sort of hard to believe she’ll get a whole nation of girls to be abstinent when she can’t even get her own daughter to not have sex.

Comment by Obama's gums look sick | 2008-09-02 13:16:20

Take a look at the Newsweek video interview of Palin in March 2008 and you may want to radically revise your attacks on Palin.

She was fully vetted and this video will show you who she is and why she remains a brilliant and effective choice. Remind yourself this was done in March when she was not on any’s VP short list. She was just being Sarah Palin - articulate, candid, effective, intelligent, engaging and capable.

Go tilt your double standard windmills on some other forum because we see through them here to quickly and you are just taking up too much space.

Comment by DAB | 2008-09-02 13:22:27

I agree. The squeals from the Obamabots indicates “worry”. If they weren’t worried, they would pretty much ignore her like they would have a Pawlenty or Romney (ho hum, yawn). Besides isn’t it a bit premature to judge her before she is given a chance to show her stuff. Clearly indicates that many Democrats are at least as intolerant as right wingers, if not more so.

Comment by bert | 2008-09-02 13:30:07

Oh you poor naive, ignorant child. Palin was vetted thoroughly. You belie your nonchalant attitude with your 3 paragraph, 167 word screed.

Palin’s daughter’s pregnancy is no ones business, period. What next we have to vett Obambi’s kids to see if they are still virgin’s or god forbid perhaps they have been molested by Obama? Yeah, how about we start a vicious rumor like that, wouldn’t that be oh so sweet, NOT.

Comment by joe | 2008-09-02 13:39:56

Hot Green,

I remember when Obama took his kids on the TV show and they were interviewed. Obama later said that he thought it was mistake. Does that bit of bad parenting and lack of judgment disqualify him from being POTUS, or is it only conservative women who are attacked?

Don’t worry. I know my logic probably blew your petty little mind right out of your head, so I won’t expect a response.

Comment by C.S. | 2008-09-02 13:44:00

~”You guys attack Obama with unfounded “facts” on a daily basis.”

OK, Hot Green, convince us. Take every item listed above and do a equivalent on Soretoro/Obama and we’ll compare them.

Since there seems to be a lot of judgment of Palin’s household; let’s start there. Since both the Obamas work who is raising their kids? Did Obama only work part time to be a house hubby? Was he the one changing diapers and fixing bottles? Or did they hire help? Professional nannys or au pairs? Who fed the kids while they were gone? Who bought the food, Mrs. Lawyer Obama or Mr. Law School Lecturer Obama?

Now, about that basketball career. We don’t know much about Soertoro/Obama and his success so we need to delve more into his high school years to discover who really had the better game but according to news coverage it looks like Palin is ahead on that one.

And here’s another for you. Much has been made of Soetoro/Obama’s “African American” background, although that half of his heritage is firmly rooted in Kenya; but his wife has an authentic claim to being African American. However, Palin seems to have beaten Obama there, too. Her citizenship is unquestioned and she is a fairly typical American who is married to a genuine minority that levels that “African American” playing field Soertoro/Obama is so dependent on.

It is going to take you a long time to accomplish this comparison because your guy is very secretive while Palin was open enough to admit her teenage daughter was pregnant. But if you expect to have any chance of convincing us to vote for your guy you need to hurry.

Comment by looking for integrity | 2008-09-02 15:07:23

I would have done the same thing with my daughter. It was the campaigns moment and the focus was on the choice for VP. The last thing I would have mentioned is the pregnancy of my daughter on such a public platform where no one knew me yet.

All of Alaska knew - my friends who live there knew. Palin would have addressed it at the appropriate moment when necessary

Comment by cappy | 2008-09-02 15:15:02

You’ve got a point there HotGreen. Most reasonable parents would have the hussy in chains in the basement. Not the Palins, though. They had the utter gall to have Bristol hold the baby during the event. It is unthinkable that she might have stepped up and offered since Mom was a little busy. And holding the baby in front of her like that!! She could have just slung him over her shoulder like a sack of potatoes so the world could examine her body. Better yet, strap him to the top of the family car like Mitt’s dog.

You also seem to have some inside knowledge about all the skeletons in the Palin’s closet? Are you a relative? A staff member? Or have you just been slurping up the venom at Daily Kos and Huffpo?

It would really be nice to stop this crap.

‘WOMAN IS THE NIGGER OF THE WORLD’

is his best! Should we send a copy of the lyrics and the vid to Obama with a note that we find

“Periodically, Barack feels down, and starts launching attacks…” against women he finds threatening to his supersize Ego…

JFK put Johnson as his V-P in l960 and won the election! JFK despised Johnson. But JFK was a politician who understood compromise and how to win elections.

Obama, you ain’t JFK–you’re a sexist fraud whose ego was too fragile to realize that you couldn’t win without Hillary as V-P….

Sweetie, come Novembeer you’ll sure “get over it”…

“Doesn’t it seem odd that the media is talking about Sarah Palin’s daughter, but the media refused to talk about John “bathroom-hider” Edwards, his affair, his love child, or the fact his wife knew about all of this and still campaigned for him?”

We witnessed the relentless attacks http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ke64670GkZ8
on candidate Hillary Clinton based on the fact that she was a woman and not that she wasn’t qualified or on policy issues. She gave years of her life to public service to defend those that were defenseless, especially children throughout the world and for the protection of ‘Human Rights’.

Hillary Clinton made us aware that; “Every women deserves the chance to realize her own God given potential. But we must recognize that women will never gain full dignity until their human rights are respected and protected. There is one message that echoes forth from this conference. Let it be, that Human Rights are Women’s Rights and Women’s Rights are Human Rights once and for all. And among those rights, are the right to speak freely and the right to be heard. Women must enjoy the rights to participate fully in the social and political lives of their countries if we want freedom and democracy to thrive and endure.” UN Women’s Conference in Beijing in Sept. 5, 1995.

Hillary Clinton was THE BEST CANDIDATE THAT JUST HAPPENED TO BE A WOMAN! DNC…you should have let her have her ‘Rightful Roll Call’, she earned it. He outspent her 3 to 1 and still won…that is a ‘fighter’ and she earned every VOTE…the ones you didn’t count!

Hon I do a lot of public speaking and good speakers monitor themselves when they speak. Had I made that 57 state gaffe I would have made a joke about it right then and there. Obama is so dumb he doesn’t even hear himself let alone self-correct. He is too hung up on the sound of his own voice and on the adulation of his fawning crowds. He is arrogant and out of touch. AND HE WILL LOSE IN NOVEMBER.

Comment by wry | 2008-09-02 15:35:46

And more difference as well between ignorance and a lie. Barack “the Kennedy’s sent my goatherd not Muslim father to America so he could hook up with my single (married twice) PhD mother on food stamps in Selma”Obama has stepped over the line.

Comment by Digg Watcher | 2008-09-02 16:37:45

It’s not a mere slip-up. The poor empty husk is punch drunk and weary from the long campaign. But gee sitting in the White House could be even worse, no? But what really distinguishes Obama is he takes himself SO FUCKING SERIOUSLY. So as others say: no he can’t joke about it - he can’t even openly admit the gaffe - as in so doing he’d encourage others to think about it and joke about it and the next thing you know the bubble would burst and people would see him with the Kool-Aid veil taken from their eyes. It’s all manipulation.

Comment by Digg Watcher | 2008-09-02 16:43:22

But the vetting has to reach the media. What’s going to get on CNN with Donna “Pepper Spray” Brazile sitting there? With the likes of Chris “Barky Gives Me An Erection” Matthews? With the likes of Keith “All Women Are Aliens” Olbermann? Axelrod and Moulitsas, Pritzker and Soros: they have this thing SO well organized. It’s going to take a minor miracle to change anything. The media are the key. The media gave the 2000 election to Bush; the media gave the Iraqi war to Bush/Cheney; now they want their Plastic Messiah. They are doing someone’s bidding.

Judging from what I have seen of the Obamas, I doubt they are authorities on the origins of the Pledge of Allegiance, either. It seems odd to me that an obot would even care. Why not blast Sarah Palin’s ignorance of the wisdom of Saul Alinsky, and Louis Farrakhan, and Bill Ayers and Bernadine Dohrn? You’d be right on the money, I am sure.

Excellent article, Lisa B. Thank you for reminding us all.

The idiotic Dems in my ex-party should be awarethat with every comment like this, they ensure that I will NEVER vote for Obama.

Actually, I had still planned to vote Democratic down ticket…but depending on who joins in on the Palin slime-fest, those guys won’t get my vote either.

Keep it up, Dems, you are destroying yourselves as a party.

Here’s something important to remember. The media is own by corporate interests — in 2000, they promoted Bush and trashed Gore. They also sold Bush’s war in Iraq. There is no longer a reliable 4th estate.

This year, they are pushing Obama like crazy — ask yourselves who benefits??

It is a sure fire bet that you ought to vote against the guy that they are trying to jam down your throats.

Who got the worst treatment — Hillary — because she was the best candidate, the one capable of bringing real, positive change. Can’t have that, now can we?

Obviously, these interests promote Obama because they know he is in their pockets and they have nothing to fear from him. He has already sold us out on FISA and many other issues.

You know what’s funny is how I instinctively knew having a woman running for office would turn this election into one marked by sophomoric behavior and beauty pageant cattiness. That’s why my name is Hope Floats (imdb the movie.) Plus, I think Obama’s a turd.

I believe the only solution for Mrs. Palin to show her strength is to stop stumping with Mccain. Get on CNN answer all the gossiping questions presented to her and I know she will do it with class. Get on the Chris Matthew show- let him try to be mean to her- he will get a backlash with women. Maybe this will give him a bump on his ratings, since they are go down and down everyday. After that- go on the Oreally show and Sean H—-go on every show- even on the comedy shows- make fun of her sex appeal and her baby machine making——-The public will get to know her and fall in love with her>! that my dear friends is what she needs to do- otherwise the dailykos, and all the other liberal MSM will continue the same destruction as they did to Hillary!

Comment by Lark | 2008-09-02 13:15:41

Comment by No Obamislamists | 2008-09-02 12:51:58

I know this may not be popular, and I did vote for Hillary, but in some ways I’m even more surprised and supportive of Palin.

Let’s face it, despite the well documented attacks on Hillary Clinton she (and Bill) eventually put her party before her country in spite of these sexist and mysogonist attacks on her. It validated and reinforced the Obamacus/DNC line to democratic women to “sit down, shut, and vote for Obama, because where else are you going to go biotch.” At that level I’m extremely disappointed in the Clintons.

The party that was supposed to be so liberal and open and tolerant apparently is not.

Comment by Stella | 2008-09-02 13:09:39

That’s so right. They got away with it by trashing Hillary so now they know they can get away with whatever they say. To trash her 17 year old daughter for being pregnant & how Sarah gave birth to her son is the most rediculous thing I’ve ever heard. Obama’s method of change & is to set the race & gender back years.

Whether these far-left critics of Hillary and Sarah Palin are really misogynists or whether they simply make use of sexist attacks to attempt to help Obama, they have stepped into a pile of poop from which they will never stop stinking. They’ve decided that it’s high time the nation had a black President, and they self-righteously assumed that any tactic is acceptable to see that we get him–no matter that the man is involved with racist clergymen, domestic terrorists, or cutthroat Chicago crooks. Clear-thinking women will never forgive these despicable men. You got that, boys? Never. You’ve thrown your reputations and your careers into BO’s lap, and when he gets up off his shaky throne to limp back to Chi-Town, you’re going to be dumped right into the dirt. And I hope he walks right over you.

The smear is working. McCain/Palin has dropped 3 points in one day in both the Gallop and Rasmussen tracking polls. This, I believe, is because the media is playing the pregnancy as a full blown scandal.

The line of attack is, “This is a private matter, however it brings up the issue of……

1. Was McCain’s vetting process flawed, I guess for picking someone who had a pregnant daughter. (Johnathan Alter’s argument).

2. What about Palin’s views on sex education. (Campbell Brown and others).

3. Her daughter had a choice to abort the baby, but Palin would deny others that choice. (Chris Mathews argument).

4. She was a bad mother for accepting the vice presidential nomination, knowing that her daughter would be exposed to the public. (Talk radio and the Internet).

But of course, HER FAMILY IS OFF LIMITS!!

Obama is such a mean-spirited hypocrite. He cranks up the slander machine and then pretends he is above it. Obamaland is the land of the continued double standard against women.

Endemic sexist attacks against women is finally coming out because now we see the same charges made against two women of vastly different political histories and political agendas.

The only common denominator is the nature of attacks against them:

1. emotional
2. manipulative
3. vindictive
4. failed mothers
5. poor female role model
6. looks made more an issue than character
7. less bright, less experienced than a man with similar intelligence and experience

At last the national agenda curiously only against women in America is coming to light. But Sarah is of a new generation not saddled with the double standards of the first wave accomplished women like Hillary, who did in fact have to coat-tail a husband’s career into her own national prominence.

Palin is the real thing, the team athelete, the realistic beauty pagent winner comfortable with her femininity, bright, articulate, driven, capable, humorous, self-refelctive woman that shines under the spotlight.

And Palin will have a far different response to the same attacks and criticisms leveled against Hillary.

Go Sarah. You were brilliant in the Newsweek March 2008 interview at the women’s governors conference - a must see by everyone before you write this amazing woman off.

Comment by roseeriter | 2008-09-02 13:37:13

McCains base is ENERGIZED behind him. He does not need a bunch of former Hillary supporters to win. If he only gets 10 percent of former Hillary backers, than that is 10 % more than a Republican usually gets, and in look how close the electorate is divided (see 2000 and 2004). 10% is plenty to give McCain the win, and besides after the Republican convention you will see polls coming out that look much better for McCain. The backlash that everybody expects will occur once Palin gives her speech and America falls in love with her. There is no backlash now because nobody knows her, but when she gives her speech , she will hit it out of the park … She will be in front of a adoring crowd, she will look great, they have hired the top guns to write her speech, and she is naturally a good speaker. Its common sense to assume she will knock it out of the park.

Brilliant observation and it is a relief to finally see these issues get out of the closet because the pattern of discrimination against women is now clearly outlined.

Men fear us as their archtypal punishing “mothers”: emotional, manipulative, vindictive, castrating.

At last the fascination with the Powerful Female Archetype hinted at in the amazing popularity of the DaVinci Code is getting a full hearing.

Comment by Obama's gums look sick | 2008-09-02 13:21:10

Men will be healed just getting these issues out into the sunlight. At last. And then maybe millions of American women can get off of anti-depressant drugs.

Comment by Obama's gums look sick | 2008-09-02 13:23:39

Depression they say in suppressed anger.

There is no larger class of drugs prescribed in America besides anti-depressants with the vast majority of them being fed to women. A lot of women are very, very angry in America and only keeping the lid on by swilling billions of dollars of anti-depressant medication.

This national public health disaster will finally be healed the more women see and learn what the national agenda against them has long been. The lid is coming off and men will be healed along with women.

SoetorObama goons attack cub scouts at Republican Convention

http://hillbuzz.wordpress.com/

Nothing SoetorObama’s fans do surprises us anymore, but this is really beyond the pale. THIS is what we are talking about when we say SoetorObama’s fans are worse than the McGovern kids in 1972. They are hateful, filled with rage, and lash out at innocent people. We’ve had to deal with them for over a year now, throwing rocks, calling people racist, keying cars with Hillary stickers on them, smashing windows, etc.

Now, they are attacking Republicans supporting McCain/Palin, and even going after cub scouts — attacking a busload of them at the Republican Convention, throwing heavy sandbags on top the bus, rocking it, trying to harm small children there to present flags at the opening ceremony.

This is the calm before the storm for the bots. The GOP knows exactly what they are doing. They know the absorb a couple tough days, but it pays off big time by really setting Palin up to give up a big speech and become a hero, and further attacks against her will be impossible to make. Its like once it was shown Dan Rather used faulty info to slam Bush over that National Guard thing it was impossible for the media to really nail him on anything else. Same with Sarah she will come out of this so strong after Wed. If the dems didnt attack her like this and she gave a good speech, she would be in good shape, but now if she gives a good speech it will be alot better than good, she will elevated to goddess stature. The dems have basically built slit their own throats by attacking her like this. Bots enjoy it while you can, because after her speech Wed she will be the most popular figure in this politcal race by far, and watch those polls next week move in a way you dont like, and then when the republicans bring out all of obamas dirty laundry, he wont be able to complain or play the race card, because after what they did to Sarah McCain will be able to attack obama hard core and nobody will complain.

I no longer see the way they treated Hillary as misogynistic. It was hostile to be sure but aside from some “good old boys” who like women barefoot in the kitchen baking cookies I think it’s very fair to say the Obama maniacs treat all opponents to their candidate with the same hostility, the same persecution. It’s gender-free - heck it’s even race-free! If you are not Obama you get attacked. Mercilessly. And Obama just smiles and David Axelrod pats him on the butt.

Donna Brazile Hit by Pepper Spray

http://hillbuzz.wordpress.com/

By Holly Watt
ST. PAUL — Donna Brazile was hit by pepper spray as she walked to the Xcel Center at the start of the Republican Convention here.

The well-known Democratic pundit and strategist confirmed the incident, but declined to comment further. Protests outside the convention center led to 56 arrests earlier in the day.

Brazile is the Chair of the Democratic National Committee’s Voting Rights Institute and was a delegate at the Democratic National Convention in Denver.

Originally from New Orleans, La., Brazile has worked on several presidential campaigns and was the campaign manager for Al Gore in 2000. She frequently appears on CNN as a political commentator.

From the article above, You can juggle a BlackBerry and a breast pump in a lot of jobs, but not in the vice presidency, said Christina Henry de Tessan, a mother of two in Portland, Ore., who supports Mr. Obama.

Hey, that’s awesome, Christina Henry de Tessan. Guess what de Tessan? You are a FUCKING LOSER. Who the hell are you to tell any mother what she can and can not do? I have news for you de Tessan, 1912 is calling, so please go back.

And let me give a hearty shout out to all the women who continue to support Obama, and all the women “insulted” by the choice of Palin. FUCK YOU. You vote for Obama in November and you vote yourself to be a second class citizen.

Hillary Clinton gave all of us the best chance to have a leader in the Oval Office. And women for Obama shat all over it, for mysterious and assinine reasons. Now there is another chance to stand up for WOMEN and yet again, some bots and misguided Dems want to shit all over it. The Republican Party noticed that 18 million people voted for Hillary and decided to put a competent female on their ticket in response. Whether or not you follow their ideologies, the Republican Party deemed women IMPORTANT ENOUGH TO COURT. This is an insult? You know what I personally find insulting? We have had lackeys and dipshits in office since time began and women still voted for them because they were party loyalists. Enough already.

Someone mentioned that the perfect candidate died on a cross two thousand years ago. If you are waiting and waiting and waiting for the “right woman,” you will be waiting another 2,000 years. Stop voting against yourselves and trying to live up to impossible standards and start accepting what is now possible. Thanks!

Secondly, the more I hear on both sides, the more I am inclined to vote for one of the 3rd party candidates who will be on the ballot in my state. I know it is impossible for them to win, but in all good conscience I cannot vote for either of these candidates.

The Sarah Palin attacks are the same as they were on Hillary. It’s attacks on Hillary all over again, only on steroids. The Obama campaign used Hillary for target practice.

Thanks to Obuttface, his supporters and the media collusion, this is turning out to be the dirtiest campaign EVER!!!

Polls don’t really worry me. John Kerry was leading Bush in the polls right up to election day.
Sure, the swiftboat thing hurt him but he still had the lead.

I’m not dismissing the Ohio shenanigans but polls don’t always bear out what people do on voting day.

I’ve been telephone polled several times and they hung up when they found out I wasn’t pro-Obama. I doubt I’m the only person this happened to. This may be skewing the polls.

The poster that pointed out the margin of error is correct. Obama may have a lead but it’s much smaller when that’s taken into account.

That said, this is America. If Bush can win so can Obama. There needs to be a “Plan B” for what to do if that happens.

Comment by Digg Watcher | 2008-09-02 16:24:28

I don’t understand how it makes any sense to hang up when you declare you’re not for Obama. Who are they in such case and what are they looking for? This is puzzling.

I have voted straight Democratic tickets since 1972 and would never have considered voting Republican until this year BUT after Obama’s use of the race card, the thuggery of the caucuses, the emptiness of Obama’s words, the stealing of the nomination from Hillary and now the smears of a 17 year old, preganant girl and her Downs Syndrome baby brother, I have had it. I will gladly vote for McCain/Palin and will probably think long and hard about how I vote down-ticket.

I am embarrassed by the Democratic Party of today. It is disgusting to attack minor children of your opponent. The Democratic Party has to be destroyed in this election, including Obama, Dean, Pelosi, Brazille and so many others. Can’t wait for the Republicans to get started. I predict Obama will lose by a landslide once he is properly vetted. If he wins, by vote stealing or otherwise, our country is in for some very rough times.

Comment by wodiej | 2008-09-02 14:20:25

I agree. Obama is done. He may be slightly ahead in the polls today but when the Repub’s get done w him by November, they’ll have to use Obama’s dental records to identify him. I don’t know why supporters of any party would think that these types of things are proactive or helpful to their candidate. It’s mind boggling.

I am so angry right now, I’d like to see the media sit down and discuss Obama’s Uncle Frank and his pedophile porn autobiography. I’d like them to ask Obama all sorts of invasive questions about the pervert know as Uncle Frank.
Hey, a 17 yr old girl is fair game, let’s go back to your teen age years, Obama. Let’s invade your privacy, let’s smear you with our speculations. Let’s talk about Uncle Frank.

You can be sure the Obambibots don’t want to talk about Obambi’s mentor Uncle Frank, because Obambi would have a hard time explained his Uncles sex with a 13 year old girl. Lets shove that under the carpet, lets instead chase down some poor 17 year old woman who has done nothing to anybody.

I’m tired of these fake ass feminists. I’m mistrusting this campaign more and more.
It’s like all they want to do is parade strong women around to make the party look more diverse, and talk about how great they are. Yet when you have an example of a strong women, they fall back to same old arguments against strong women, the same women they supposedly held in high esteem. And it has nothing to do her ability to be a mother, but everything to do with her politics. F-ing, liberal wannabes; if they don’t like your politics, they don’t like you.

obama and his vicious minions are out in full force. They are very worried. They need to be. He isn’t going to be the next president, he isn’t going to be a senator, he is going to be in jail. The people supporting Obama are stupid people and not worth the time to respond to their bullshit. Having a D behind a name does not make you worthy of anything. As far as this election cycle, anybody except Hillary with a D behind their name, will not get my vote ever again. The democratic party is dead. It died years ago when this coup was being put together.

It goes downhill from there with more sliming of Palin at his site.

My priority this November is to see Palin elected because she and I are females. That McCain is part of the deal no longer matters although I am against most of his policies. I donated to Senator Clinton’s campaign, helped in every way I could, and voted for her but I want revenge on the Dim Party and their thugs for denying us the most qualified presidential candidate. I want the MSM, BO and BO supporters to go down in the most “shocking,” “stunning” (words used against Palin’s selection) defeat and their empty heads shattered along with the glass ceiling.

Absolutely disgusting. I’ve come to the conclusion that hiding behind the label of “liberalism” gives these self-professed progressives free reign to espouse the same narrow-minded viewpoints that they accuse conservatives of supporting. In the minds of these liberals, it’s a capital crime to be racist and yet they think nothing of stigmatizing their opponents with that very tag. I’m not sure what their true motives are when they employ this irresponsible tactic, but my cynicism tells me it’s all about the means justifying the end.

These same, so-called progressives harbor no such outrage when it comes to sexism and misogyny. For many of them, equality has no connotations outside of sexuality. In other words, women achieved equality when we are no longer constrained by sexual mores and formal laws governing our bodies. Outside of this realm however, it is still acceptable for “progressives” to make judgments of how we, as women, choose to live our lives. Need a few examples? Just go on any liberal blogs on any given day, and you will see conservative women being bashed for their lifestyles or beliefs. So how exactly are women supposed to behave? Let’s see, in accordance to progressive viewpoints, we must balance carefully on a tightrope. We must achieve success in our chosen fields, but not to the point of being TOO accomplished unless we suffer being branded as bitches i.e. Hillary. Also, we must also accept that our choices pertaining to our personal relationships, children, family, and even obstetric care are fair game to criticism, especially if they are based upon conservative convictions i.e. Sarah Palin’s beliefs.

Now, the sexism and misogyny once reserved for our conservative sisters are being extended to women perceived as too strident and uppity. Hillary Clinton is the prime example of this type of warped attack against independent, successful woman. Sarah Palin is going to be flayed by the same liberals who destroyed Hillary. Palin, however, will be ripped apart for not only being a conservative woman, but one who has attained professional stature. For so-called progressives, it’s incongruent that a woman can concurrently venture outside the confines of liberalism and manage success.

I’ve been politically and socially aware since I was a teenager. I’m in my thirties and have been an Independent for only a few years. Previously I had identified myself as a liberal, but subsequently found liberalism to be just as inflexible as rigid conservatism. Both ideologies demand intellectual adherence to issues, thoughts and opinions that are, in reality, not entrenched in black or white. In this election season, there is a stark contrast between the Democratic ticket and the Republican ticket. Nevertheless, corruption and misogyny stemming from the progressive candidates Obama/ Biden, their supporters, and the hapless media have swayed this Independent voter to the side of McCain/ Palin.

Thanks for making my choice so easy, liberals!

Liberals think John Lennon was one of them, but this song was an attack on the misogyny he was observing among his so-called enlightened friends. It wasn’t written to middle-class America, it was written to the Weather Underground etc. and the way they treated their wives and girlfriends. John was right then, and he’s right now. I sent a version, “Hillary is the N* of the World” to a liberal blog and got crickets. I’m now including a verse about Sarah Palin.

Where is Nancy, Harry, and Howard to condemn the Obama attacks on this Mother of Five, 17 year old girl and 4 month infant???

I hate to say this, but this is about us.

Obama left Denver thinking he had put the Hillary supporters to sleep,

With no were to go, he reasoned that we would just drift back to him as the election drew close.

Less than 12 hours later Sarah Palin picked up the “Woman’s Standard” and all of Obama’s worst fears suddenly became probable.

What we are seeing is “Shock and Awe” Chicago style.

They hope to drive the entire Palin Family back to the land of the Northern Lights.

They are afraid of us, not her!

They are afraid that this army on their flank will rally and defeat them at the last minute.

Sarah stole their “bounce”.

We are the Bounce.

If we had come back after “The Speech”. as they expected Obama would be 22 pts up right now.

No Quarter and The PUMAs have kept us alive and active and now they fear we will never come home to help win the election.

Obama has NEVER run against a Republican!

That’s a fact.

Obama faces a real election for the first time and he is afraid of one thing.

Us!

The Crucifixion of the 17 year old daughter is meant to do what nailing people to a cross was always meant to do, INTIMADATE their followers.

I am in a position to know that Larry’s F.U. thread shook some trees yesterday and caused Obama to issue the statement he did.

Those of you who called into talk radio also had an effect both on the Media and the Obama campaign.

We need to do more.

We need to make every woman see that the attack on this 17 year old, soon to be Mother, is an an attack on Women everywhere.

We have a chance to deliver a resounding defeat to the sexists.

If we can keep the stink of these sexist tactics in the media and on Obama we will deliver him a resounding defeat.

That will be a demonstration of power that will command respect.

They must be made to understand that GENDER trumps everything, including race.

It will only happen if we drive these sexist tactics right down their throats from now to November.

If we can trun up the heat for the nex week to ten days, these sexist tactics will turn right around and bite Obam in the ass.

For them to fear you, you need bodies.

Alan Colmns at Fox is low hanging fruit and needs to be taken out.

The guy who heads the Kos works at Newsweek, go after him there. Put the stink on Newsweek for this.

Local Radio is taking shots at the girl.

Get petitions and do a High Profile delivery complete with Live At Five News crews when you march in too deliver them.

The public didn’t care about sexist attacks on Hillary.

Hillary was seasoned and they expected her to take what ever got thrown at her.

Obama has made a HUGE mistake thinking the public would feel the same when he did the same thing to a 17 year old girl.

Go after him hard and make him pay big time.

The hour of the PUMA has arrived.

Stay angry and remember, NO QUARTER!

What about Obama’s JayZ rapper-wannabe performance on N.C. stage day after his pathetic Pa. ABC Debate. He ‘flip-offed’ his fellow female senator using his midfinger. He then dusted her off and “scraped her off” his shoes as if excrement, smirking and waiting for his fan club members to ‘clue in’…

He said: “Periodically, HIllary feels down and starts launching attacks…”
“The claws are comin’ out”

This misogynist ignoramus will pay for playing the SEXIST CARD and the Racist card!

It just came to me that all babies start out female. Then that fatal error that so often happens occurs, and they turn male. Ha ha, just kidding. Anyway, we all see how badly women are treated in other parts of the world, but are things really all that great for us girls here? I think in light of current events, we have a long way to go ladies.

Comment by Alice Paul | 2008-09-02 18:07:16

Well thank GOD, I’ve been thinking of John’s song the entire time this debacle was going on while the DNC and the world watched. Not many said a word. Riots in the streets were threatened if anyone dared put down his holiness but, god knows those little women over there can be crapped all over and nobody has to be afraid or threatened, right? So this gives it all a rubber stamp of approval, a dismissal as if it’s some how not “quite” as horrible as it really has been. A *shrug* and a projection so you dont’ have to feel bad going along with it and can label anyone standing up to it as the “bad” ones right? Projection is such a cute trick. It allows you to effectively say “I did this but, I’m going to blame you for it.”

There have been a lot of faux newby liberals running around acting like faux thugs with a faux “cause” all because it’s all kinds of MTV fun. They dont’ give a flying you know what who gets hurt or EVEN if anything changes at all truth be told. In fact if women’s rights are blasted back to cave man days, so what? And so what too if it was those very women who stood up for every single cause that had a thing to do with anyone ELSES rights for all this time. As long as we’re all having fun, fun, fun and pretending this is YOUR sixties. It’s as fake as it comes and you know and we do too. Grow up and get real for once. The “lovefest” was a fraud. There was no love in these comments and actions you Obama supporters FAILED to stand up to, failed to show what you’re really about. Indeed, when we saw what you were about it oozed hatred day after day.

This is so beyond being about Hillary Clinton though surely she did not deserve your vitirole or the misogynistic b.s. thrown out there. You see Obama as “historic” and it’s all to be respected. But she was treated as not “as” important to the millions of women this meant something to as well. Blind and selfish abandonment of principles. It was all only about YOUR principles of convience when it suited you and when it didnt’ you were frauds for your “cause”

This has been the most disgusting campaign I’ve ever seen anyone run and the media jumped on while Obama sat silent for a kind of hatred he claims to abhore.

Who up there mentioned “troopergate” The trooper in question TASERED his eleven year old step child…he is an abuser. But once again the female defender or the victim are made out to be the bad guy while the b.s. abuser is defended. This can only be because violence against women is given a pass while SHE is held to ten times the standard.

Hillary was held to ten times the standard while Obama got a full pass on some of the most blatantly immoral behavior I’ve seen in a politican since Bushco got into power. now Palin will be held to ten times the standard her counterpart will be.

Get ready, batten down the hatches, and btw kids, we “little women” are NOT going to sit down for it this time and noooo we’re not afraid anymore. You don’t like that and want to label or threaten, go ahead, we’re hardened to it. The focus is on making sure this b.s. stops once and for all now. And keeping the candidate of the rampant misogyny campaign OUT of power.

Lisa, thank you for this post. I have a niece living in TX and we correspond by email almost daily. She is a Republican and although, we are very different in our politics, I love her dearly.

A few months ago, I wrote about how upset I was with the media and the sexism. She wrote back and told me she watched CNN and hadn’t noticed anything like that. Like a lot of Republicans, she hated the Clintons and every time I asked why, she gave the typical talking points of Limbaugh and others.

Last week, when McCain announced Gov. Palin would be his VP, she was so excited and happy with the choice. This morning when I read her latest email, I didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. She is so disturbed by the way CNN has reacted to this announcement and shocked they would be so callous. My niece is very intelligent and well educated, but like so many other politically active people, has been blind to media attacks on Hillary.

This may not be completely rational, but I see hope here. If the media continues it’s sexist attacks on Gov. Palin, many Republican women may have their eyes opened to what happens when a well qualified woman seeks national office and we could make a new alliance that transcends ideology. The Democratic Party through away all this year. The heart and soul has been torn apart and so many women Dems have suffered a real lose and are grieving for all that has been taken from us.

Your post covers only part of what has been said and now there is a new line of attack on Palin. I hope someone has kept and will continue to keep a record that can be translated into a complete book when this election is over covering Hillary’s campaign and the GE and Palin.

I have wondered why everyone recognizes racism, identifies it and condemns it, but a woman can’t point to something and say this is sexist because it only resonates with those who have seen it’s reality and been victimized at work or in the home. There hasn’t been any real exploration of the subject since Simone de Beauvoir and Germaine Greer and even those are now subjected to redicule. We have power in our numbers, but have never been able to use it as a group. Why do you think this is the case? I think many women would like some answers about cause and effect. In the 70s we hitched our hopes and dreams onto the anti-war and civil rights movements, but in reality, as this election has shown, it is stagnant at best, regressing at worst.

Sorry this is so long. BTW. Love the Lennon/Ono song. As true today as when it was written.
