I am extremely disappointed in the choice of Sarah Palin as the Vice Presidential candidate of the Republican Party….
Children and young adults look to those who are visible and successful as a road map of what is acceptable behavior and emulate those actions over the morals and values their parents and churches have taught and tried to reinforce….
I’m stunned – couldn’t the Republican Party find one competent female with adult children to run for Vice President with McCain? I realize his advisors probably didn’t want a “mature” woman, as the Democrats keep harping on his age. But really, what kind of role model is a woman whose fifth child was recently born with a serious issue, Down Syndrome, and then goes back to the job of Governor within days of the birth?
When Mom and Dad both work full-time (no matter how many folks get involved with the children), it becomes a somewhat chaotic situation. Certainly, if a child becomes ill and is rushed to the hospital, and you’re on the hotline with both Israel and Iran as nuclear tempers are flaring, where’s your attention going to be?
Any full-time working wife and mother knows that the family takes the short end of the stick. Marriages and the welfare of children suffer when a stressed-out mother doesn’t have time to be a woman, a wife, and a hands-on Mommy.
Mmmkay. What was that about people who are visible and successful being looked to as roadmaps of what is acceptable behaviors? Let’s turn that around, shall we?
Dr. Laura Advises Mom to Dump Autistic Child:
Prominent radio talk show host Dr. Laura Schlessinger today advises a mother with an autistic child to place her child in an institution so that she can “have a life.”
Schlessenger never got along well with her father, and she and her mother had been estranged for at least 14 years before her mother’s odd death in 2002. (Her partially decomposed corpse had been on the floor of her apartment for several weeks before being discovered, and police initially suspected foul play.) Schlessinger has also been estranged from her sister since the mid-1970s, and has reportedly told friends she is an only child.
Dr. Laura disapproves of divorce and pornography, but as a divorcee she posed for what can be called a “beaver shot” with her legs spread. In October of 1998, this and other naked photos of Schlessinger appeared on the internet. The photographer was Schlessinger’s ex-boyfriend Ballance, but as the woman in the photos was so much younger than the present-day Schlessinger, she simply lied at first — stating that it was a different woman. She then sued for copyright infringement, making the unlikely claim that while the woman in the pictures wasn’t her, she owned the copyright to the pictures. Eventually Schlessinger admitted her identity as the subject of the photos.

My mother was always a stay at home mom and 3 of her 5 children were pregnant before they got married . I was in my 20’s and had dated my now husband for over 5 years, but my two brother were both teenagers when they became fathers. No matter how hard you try you can’t totally control your children. I thank God every day that my boys who are now both in their early 20’s that they haven’t come home with surprising news for me.
If Sarah Palin becomes Vice President all her free time will be spent with her children. She won’t have to lift another finger to make a bed, clean a house, do a load of laundry, make a meal, or any of the other chores that all us stay at home moms do that take away from the time we devote to our children.
Sarah married a GOOD MAN, he helps with the children and besides, it will make her just like all USA women…we balance work and home life, we have too…to make a living!
I worked until my last day and was back to work within a weeks time. She had a Down’s Syndrome child…it is PAINFULLY clear that no one knows that women with disabled children still work!

Now I do not care about anyone’s personal life, HOWEVER she made a career out of throwing a guilt trip on working moms. I used to listen to her show, I never once heard her refer to her checkered past as something she grew out of, she just blacked it out as if it never happened.
And really what I found most reprehensible about Laura S. is that her own mother was found dead in her apartment, she’d been there for some time. Laura had a falling out with her, the story she told was that she gave her mom a job and told the mother that she needed to take typing lessons and the mother objected.
That’s why she cut off her own mom.
If nothing else, Schleshinger should have anticipated what a public relations nightmare it would be for herself, and just kept up a relationship with her mother on that basis.

JOE BIDEN’S FAILED ATTEMPT TO DISLODGE BRATTY SON FROM LOBBYING BIZ
K STREET HOLE Joe, Hunter
Vice presidential nominee Joe Biden and his lobbyist son got nailed yesterday for being rich and insider-y and basically exactly like every other well-connected political clan you’ve ever heard about. “Biden’s Son a Well-Paid D.C. Insider” advises the headline of a story detailing how Hunter Biden has personally billed clients $3.8 million for his lobbying services, and how the firm he co-founded with one of his dad’s buddies excels in a particularly scummy niche of the lobbying trade that involves coercing a small group of congressmen and staffers to slip earmarks into monstrous spending bills.
That article makes no mention of the jobs and large consulting fees Hunter earned from his dad’s biggest contributor (but this one does!) or Sen. Biden’s staggeringly unsuccessful effort to avoid exactly these kinds of stories by getting his son out of the lobbying business altogether. Many of the alleged details on that can be found in a lawsuit filed last year against Hunter and his uncle James Biden, Joe’s brother.
According to a claim filed by pissed-off business guy Anthony Lotito, “In early January 2006, James Biden called Lotito to inform him that his brother, Senator Joseph P. Biden, was concerned with the impact that Hunter’s lobbying would have on his expected campaign for the 2008 Democratic presidential nomination.” James allegedly said that “his brother had asked him to seek Lotito’s assistance in finding employment for Hunter in a non-lobbying capacity.”
This supposed ploy worked out just fine at first, assuming that hedge fund work was somehow less of a political liability than lobbying. Lotito partnered with the two Bidens and bought controlling interest of a hedge fund called Paradigm Global Advisors; despite having no hedge fund experience, Hunter was made CEO and given an annual salary of $1.2 million as a way of “fulfilling Senator Biden’s wish that Hunter secure employment in a non-lobbying capacity.” But soon the bottom fell out. Lotito’s lawsuit claims that the Biden boys began “repeatedly citing their political connections and family status” to avoid paying him, and threatened “to use their alleged connections with a former United States senator to retaliate against [Lotito's lawyers] for insisting that his bill be paid.”
The Bidens deny all of this and say Lotito was the bad actor in the deal, but whatever happened, it’s clear that the hedge fund foray was not a success. Hunter quickly returned to lobbying and ostensibly tried to establish some degree of political cover for his dad’s presidential run by playing up his selfless work on the Amtrak Reform Board, a do-nothing patronage gig given to him, of course, by his dad.
Still, the drama continues; the Biden boys were recently slapped with another lawsuit by a different investor who claims they “engaged in an elaborate scheme to defraud” him. It’s unclear how exactly all of this might figure into Barack Obama’s crusade against business-as-usual in Washington, but here’s hoping that some wise journalist covering this week’s Democratic convention will take a look at the impact of Washington establishment brats on Obama’s message of change. We’re looking at you Luke Russert!

Frankly, Dr. Laura is a nut. I discovered this after listening to her – briefly – years ago. She has zero cred, as far as I’m concerned.
I listened to her toward the end of her run on local talk radio. It was clear from the tone of her voice that she was starting to lose it.
She made a promo appearance on behalf of the radio station, and the word got around town that she freaked out and one of the radio staff found her sitting in a fetal position, on the floor, in the corner of an office.
In Dr.Laura’s world Mommies stay home to raise children,parents shouldn’t divorce for the sake of the children, and if they divorce the parents should not date until the youngest child is 18. Beyond that any woman living in sin is a “unpaid whore” She lives in her own world with benefits. In the real world women work by choice and necessity. Divorce does happen and people do move on. She is a hypocrite for not accepting the fact that Sarah Palin’s husband has and will be a stay at home dad. I think women like Dr. Laura, Nancy Pelosi and many others only like women to suceed when its them.

One of the places I volunteered at one one of those rich well to do places where they dump off their kids to save them the embarrssment of having them interrupt their wine and cheese parties. She argues that family comes first and that is why she ostracized her mother, who was dead for a week inside her own apartment before neighbors [not her daughter] discovered her.
She talks about the need to put family first and that a woman’s place is in the home and yet she somehow finds time to be a full-time radio personality with her own nationally syndicated show.
She talks about personal morality, and yet nude and semi-naked pictures she allowed an old boyfriend of hers to take were released!

What are you talking about? I am a liberal who was lucky enough to be able to stay home BECAUSE of women like Hillary. I was given a choice and I chose to stay home with my kids. Sarah chose to go back to work. But guess what, now that my kids are older and my husband is no longer going back and forth to a war zone and won’t ever be going back, I’m choosing to go get my commercial pilot’s licence so hubby and I will be able to retire in style and tour the world while doing charity work. It’s called FREEDOM to CHOOSE!
Why is freedom of choice such a difficult concept to so many people?
And why is Laura still out there being quoted? Who cares what she says? A working mommy telling all the other mommies to stay home, she was so irrelevant last decade. Not even a blip on the old radar this decade.

First of all, really, what difference does this make? I guess Barack Obama should leave the Dem. ticket then because he has young girls. And having two small children hasn’t stopped Michelle Obama from having a career.
Second of all and perhaps more importantly, since Palin’s candidacy was announced I keep reading this argument that many women are angry/insulted that McCain passed over women more qualified women already serving in Congress or as governor of their respective state. But what astounds me is that we haven’t seen any kind of the same resentment from more African-Americans over Barack Obama’s ascent to the top of the Democratic Party ranks. What is so special about Barack Obama? What has he really accomplished? The answer is nothing at all, well, nothing of any sort of substance or matter.
Anything he is attached to is only because he himself attached the name Obama to it, and in many cases has taken full credit for other people’s hard work and bi-partisan risk. There are many more qualified members of the Black Caucus that are far more deserving of a presidential nomination than Barack Obama. I predict that after what is surely to be a disastrous and landslide loss to John McCain in November, this illegitimate candidacy will result in a major setback for the advancement of all minorities seeking major elected offices.
Obama’s nomination is a slap in the face to the black community as he tries to claim the mantle from the community he isn’t even a product of. I fear that African-American communities will be disillusioned if he is elected and doesn’t deliver whatever it is that they expect him to deliver. This blind support for someone they perceive to be one of their own is a huge risk as he really hasn’t even promised them anything in return for their support other than “Hope”. “Hope” for what? It would have been smarter to throw this kind of support behind a proven and respected steward of the Black Caucus like Sheila Jackson Lee or Maxine Waters. These people who have been sowing the seeds for years should reap the rewards, not an American Idol contestant.
If he does win, I hope I am wrong.
African Americans reacted as naive as Hillary did. They will get the Hillary treatment. Everyone will. Even Biden. Obama chooses always according to what’s best for him. He steals what belongs to others. He chose Biden to steal his 35 years of Senate accomplishments. If he wins, it will be chaos in Washington and elsewhere.
What I am trying to say is that I am surprised that more African-Americans are not upset that a black candidate has been shoo’d along up the ladder to a presidential nomination as an apparent “token” candidate with a generic change message (because really, what politician in any race doesn’t promise change?) as opposed to a black candidate that earns a presidential nomination based off merit and hard work? To me it’s clear that the Democratic party is just using Obama as a minority candidate under the guise of unity. I think that’s insulting to the African-American community.
One could argue to counter that Mccain is using Palin as a female token the way the DNC is using Obama as a black one, but I don’t think that arguement will hold water with the general electorate. While Palin has that same “one of us”/grass-roots sort of feel with a clear background and personal narrative, Obama does not produce the same “one of us” feel. Sure, he has something of a global background that may indeed connect with many across the this multi-cultural nation and even the world, but at the end of the day it’s the residents of this country, not the planet, that decide who their leader is; Obama just doesn’t connect on that same backyard/neighbor bar-B-que way that, to quote Ruben Navarrette of the San Diego Union-Tribune, elected Clinton Over Dole in 1996 and G.W. Bush over Kerry in 2004. His personal narrative that spans the globe is inconsistent with what comforts everyday Americans and this weakness is ultimately what will be a factor, if not the factor in his losing in November to McCain. Like it or not, time after time people will overwhelmingly choose to go with with what they know and what they are familiar with over uncertainty and risk.

I am the proud mother of a down syndrome child who has been the joy in my life and gave me purpose. Her expectations were minimized by “professionals” but she has been a shining star and showed them all good.
True she is now on the downslide of her life at age 42 and it is heartbreaking, but I have NO regrets for having and loving her and helping her meet the MANY challenges in her life. She is still at home with me and well be to the end which with her accelerated alzheimer condition could be within 6 months to a few years. Yes she is now a bit hard to handle but you know what, we all are when we get old, and she is no different and DS age quicker than those without so is not unexpected.
I hope Governor Palin’s 4 yrs away from EVERY family moment only makes the bond stronger among her children for her sacrifices as well as the country.
