So Salon conducted an “interview” (if by “interview” you mean typing answers to weak, insipid questions) with Markos Moulitsas about his insane clown posse “progressive” blog and thoughts on how to advance “liberal” causes.
You also write with respect for many of the campaign strategies Republicans have successfully employed over the years. How much of the book’s advice was inspired by the tactics of Karl Rove and Tom DeLay?
I think a lot of my activities, the way I’ve organized and built my little operation, have been predicated on the right-wing example. I have immense respect for and even jealously for what they’ve done. And so now we’re finally getting around to building our own version of a vast right-wing conspiracy. We’re starting to build our own vast left-wing conspiracy.
Well, there it is. Not a single question about how the Orange Place has become virtually indistinguishable from the online asylum known as the Free Republic. No questions about how spreading psychotic conspiracy theories moves the progressive agenda forward, or how lying about the parenthood of a special needs child, or how any of these tactics will win anyone over…or, indeed, how this behavior advances the “hope” and “change” theme.
Now, I couldn’t give a damn about what the trolls, the underwear-draped-dormroom-inhabiting-Cheetoh-eating “citizen journalists”, the Delta Taus over at MSNBC and other members of the MSM have to say about this site and the people who write for it. You can say we’re closet Republicans; that the women who supported Hillary and refuse to pledge allegiance to Barack Obama are an embittered, delusional minority; that those of us who admire Sarah Palin need to be ridden out of town on a rail. Go ahead. But we here at NQ can boast about two things:
1. We were right when we compared the tactics used against Hillary Clinton and Sarah Palin to those used to destroy John McCain and his family in South Carolina. I seem to remember we were all horrified back then. We thought that those who planned and launched such an attack had forfeited the right to walk among civilized, decent human beings. How things change.
2. No one here ever held up Karl Rove and Tom DeLay, two of the biggest scumbags on the planet, as role models.

I am not a huge fan of where Kos has taken his operation, philosophically. I think his backing of Obama is a mistake.
That said, I have to give him credit as a marketer and a businessman. And, I have to add, as someone whose ’shop’ affects the debate, if for no other reason than that his Kossacks flood the zone with information that the MSM does look at, rightly or wrongly.
I respect Kos; he gets things done and has a clear vision of where he wants to take things. I have a similar feeling towards Taylor Marsh. Both of these people, and many others who would be properly referred to as members of the Blogger Kook Kidz, are driven and they are able to establish fiefdoms of various sizes which contribute to the political discussion.

After seeing Maria Bartiromo’s (sp?) interview of Sarah Palin I knew Sarah was not going to fail. I watched to see to what extent she would succeed. She met my high expectations of her.
Not only did the left nut case attacks swell the nunber of people who watched, the nasty aggresiveness of the attacks set the bar pretty low. All she had to do was show up. But she hit a grand slam. And now the far lefties will be hoist on their own petard. I am looking forward to the show.

My first choice for Veep was Tom Ridge, so I needed a little convincing. At the end of her speech, I thought, this lady will have no problem staring into the eyes of the K-G-B aka Putin.

I’m a former fashionista, so I was conscious of everyone’s wardrobe and hair, etc.
When McCain made his appearance, I was really shocked that he was wearing an apricot colored tie. That surely is a fashion forward shade, but he has always been conservative in his neckwear. The tie looked incongruous on him.
It really stuck in my craw until it came to me -

I agree. Although I really cannot stand Chertoff and Bush was an arrogant slob while Katrina was happening, you do have to keep in mind that the levee break happened a day AFTER Katrina blew through. Everyone — everyone — was breathing a sigh of relief and got caught unawares. Also no natural disaster on this scale has happened in the U.S. and there was going to be a learning curve. Not clear a Dem adminstration would’ve been a whole lot faster. Some faster, ok, but not perfect.

There are many more – the leadership attack paradox that Obama is in – the rabid firing up the base she has accomplished – the fact that we now have our own celebrity, just when the celebrity attack didn’t work anymore – appeal to women, working moms, and small town America – credibility and expertise on drilling – dynamic speaker and effective messenger.
The leadership paradox is the best though. She will spend a good deal of her time comparing her experience to his, deflating O’s resume for POTUS and bolstering McCain’s. The BHO can’t attack back, lest they be too harsh or they get into a debate over his resume and hers, because she wins every time.
The BHO campaign is almost surrounded by Gen. McCain’s army after Lt. Obama stepped right into the ambush of Gov. Palin — set up when McCain knew BHO would not choose HRC.
Anyone who thinks that McCain is too old, that he is foggy, or that he is going to die in office should think again. This pick showed that he has amazing political awareness and brass balls the size of doorknobs. I have all the confidence in the world that these two fine individuals will lead our nation with honor and integrity.

Sure, most of us Democrats were soured last time out when Kerry didn’t stand up to the Swiftboaters. In our hearts we probably all wanted to fight fire with fire.
But 0bama used fire and dirty tricks with Hillary. Within the Party. And he turned half the base off. He told Congresswomen: “Get over it!”
He didn’t even vet Hillary and has made NO ATTEMPT to make peace with her base. 0bama and the Democratic elite told us to “Stay home.” These people keep insulting us because as far as they’re concerned, the issues are all that matter.

And what about sexism? That’s an issue. Why can’t the Democratic leaders and 0bama realize that simply threatening us with Roe v Wade while at the same time calling us derisive names does not speak well of the issue sexism. 0bama could have had Hillary’s base sewn up months ago if he had challenged the media to stick to the issues and stop the sexist attacks against Hillary. But he wanted those attacks, even gave not-so-subtle hints in his sexist mannerisms. And his unwillingness to humbly and honestly make a plea for the base is why Democrats are looking at Sarah and finding her appealing.
Well it’s too late now! Anything like that will seen as cheap and shameless pandering now that he’s in a fight for his life.
So let Botheads keep it up. The Dems were trumped last night. After years of being the Party of women, the Repubs have put their money where their mouth is.

I think the reason the tactics failed is because the Democrats ‘ate’ one of their own first and everyone could see it. The DNC made a big mistake, HUGE. Instead of ‘paying’ his dues, Obama was shoved to the forefront by the DNC tearing down Hillary and tossing her aside. Just how stupid can they get? Now they are in the midst of making the same mistake with Palin, only this time they will get their collectice asses spanked.

Markos Moulitsas has tossed aside any respectability he ever had–and I am being generous to allow that he might of had some to begin with. He and his nutroots crowd can spin their own little theories and spew hateful lies and trash but they will increasingly lose their credibitily with anyone who isn’t OD’ing on Kool-Aid.
It is simply stunning. I believe the Democrats have just lost the moral high ground to the party of George Bush. I didn’t even realize that was possible.
Authenticity matters in elections. Trust is one of the major factors in how people vote. I believe it trumps policy, agendas, and rhetoric.
You cannot sell yourself as the party of election reform while stacking caucuses and holding roll call votes in name only. You cannot sell yourself as the party of women’s rights while attempting to shame a 17 yr old girl for being pregnant. You cannot sell yourself as the party of reform, while voting to approve FISA immunity and passing out AT&T bags at your convention. You cannot sell yourself as the party of the working class while building a Greek temple for your candidate to rise out of in the middle of a football stadium.
