Longtime Alaskan National Guard Commander Lauds Sarah Palin’s Performance [Updates x2]

UPDATES: BELOW THE FOLD, I’ve added a longer video from Fox News that includes Greta’s interview last night with the current mayor of Wasilla, Alaska about who Sarah Palin really is. (The second update is Wikipedia’s entry about the town of Wasilla, Alaska, and a photograph of the city hall.)
…………….

I caught this interview of Major General Craig E. Campbell, a longtime National Guard commander, last night on Greta Van Susteran’s show, and am so glad that Andy sent me the YouTube video this morning. Major General Campbell provides a vivid description of what is truly entailed in a governor’s job as head of a statewide national guard unit — as well as how individual governors differ in how well they step up to the job — and especially of Sarah Palin’s intense interest and commitment to the unit that she commanded:

As Jennifer Rubin of Commentary magazine explains, the “commander of the national guard” talking point can seem, at first blush, a rather weak one, but this interview proves there is merit to mentioning this area of Gov. Palin’s experience:

I confess I thought the “head of the National Guard” argument was a weak one in defense of Sarah Palin. But this is actually a fairly illuminating interview [link goes to the video above] which explains what she did and how she did it. You actually learn something about Palin and how she operates.

This is one of those instances where the talking point sounds goofy on the surface, but actually has some merit.

Of note: Jennifer Rubin’s blog, Contentions, is excellent, and worth bookmarking.
