McCain/Palin Rides Post Convention Bounce To A Commanding 54%-44% lead Over Obama/Biden!!!!!

Breaking News: As of three hours ago, McCain/Palin beat Obama/Biden in a new USA Today/Gallup Poll 54%-44%.

palin.jpgAccording to a USA TODAY/Gallup Poll taken over the weekend shows, as running mate Sarah Palin helps close an “enthusiasm gap” that has dogged the GOP all year. The USA Today reported three hours ago that the McCain/Palin ticket has taken a significant lead over Obama/Biden.

The poll figures are as follows:

McCain leads Democrat Barack Obama by 50%-46% among registered voters, the Republican’s biggest advantage since January and a turnaround from the USA TODAY poll taken just before the convention opened in St. Paul. Then, he lagged by 7 percentage points.

Not only has the popularity of the McCain/Palin ticket increased, but the view of down ticket Republicans has improved. More on that from USA Today.

“The Republicans had a very successful convention and, at least initially, the selection of Sarah Palin has made a big difference,” says political scientist Larry Sabato of the University of Virginia. “He’s in a far better position than his people imagined he would be in at this point.”

McCain still has problems with people worried that he will continue the Bush style of government. People need to be reminded consistently, that McCain has already distanced himself from Bush. McCain is the real deal, a real maverick, working across the aisle on bills. Yet doubts remain.

In the new poll taken over the weekend, the numbers have changed significantly. And here are those numbers:

In the new poll, taken Friday through Sunday, McCain leads Obama by 54%-44% among those seen as most likely to vote. The survey of 1,022 adults, including 959 registered voters, has a margin of error of +/— 3 points for both samples.

Among the findings:

• Before the convention, Republicans by 47%-39% were less enthusiastic than usual about voting. Now, they are more enthusiastic by 60%-24%, a sweeping change that narrows a key Democratic advantage. Democrats report being more enthusiastic by 67%-19%.

• Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, a national unknown before McCain chose her for the ticket 10 days ago, draws a strong reaction from voters on both sides. Now, 29% say she makes them more likely to vote for McCain, 21% less likely.

Obama’s choice of Delaware Sen. Joe Biden as running mate made 14% more likely to vote for the Democrat, 7% less likely.

• McCain’s acceptance speech Thursday received lower ratings than the one Obama gave a week earlier: 15% called McCain’s speech “excellent” compared with 35% for Obama.

This is an incredible bounce post-convention. Though bounces generally hang on, this is still awesome! It seems McCain’s choice of Governor Sarah Palin was the right one. Bravo McCain/Palin, good job!

Comment by Jim S | 2008-09-08 13:13:33

Country First? Tell that to Congress!

From the NumbersUSA website:

No sooner had the Labor Day speeches extolling American workers ceased than the leaders of the U.S. House of Representatives decided to bring up a bill this week to inflict 550,000 stab wounds onto those American workers.

That’s right: A week after we hear that official unemployment is at a 5-year high, House leaders are going to try to move a bill to offer 550,000 MORE permanent greencards, above the 1 million immigrants already planned!

Way to go Nancy, sell the American worker down the drain. They’re so sure that Democrats will fall in line and vote a straight democrat ticket that they cut our throats before we even vote. I intend to vote, but I’m voting McCain/Palin for President/VP and anyone else that is running against an incumbent. There is no Dem/Repub this time around. We should clean house and start over. As far as I’m concerned, that is “Country First”

Don’t be so hard on poor Michelle.

If the only Americans I hung around with were folks like Jeremiah Wright, Bill Ayers, Toni Rezko, Richard Daley, the elitist snobs at Princeton, the greedy management of Univ. of Chicago Hospital and the nut roots smear mongers at the DailyKos, I would probably have a dim view of America too.

Those folks are certainly all “downright mean” and nothing to be proud of.

If she would only get to know some real Americans, I’m sure she would love her country.

Comment by IvyLeaguer | 2008-09-07 23:58:08

Doubt she hung out with the elitists at Princeton. There is an awful lot of nice folks there, smart, nice, and genuine. She most likely surrounded herslf in her comfort zone of like-mindedness. And didn’t bother to savor the great aspects and other people there.

Comment by Dan | 2008-09-07 22:30:25

As happy as I am to see this (I am, after all, A a Republican) this margin probably won’t be maintained. The post-convention “bump” for McCain & Palin will probably fade in time just like the one for Obama did. Still, I think that McCain is in a very good position indeed right now.

By and large, the people who will decide this election are middle-class and lower-middle-class whites. A lot of them are still undecided, and that’s why McCain’s pick of Palin as his VP was a stroke of genius. These people will easily see her as being “one of us” and, combined with a bona fide war hero who isn’t afraid of stepping on toes within his own party if that’s what it takes, it makes for a very formidable ticket.

The three debates between McCain and Obama will be critical. But the unscripted, give & take format of a debate is an environment in which McCain excels and in which Obama has had trouble in the past. As we all know, Obama gives terrific speeches in front of adoring crowds, but when pressed to answer specific questions on the spot, he often gets flustered and every other word turns into “ummm” or “uh”.

Then there’s the “Bradley effect” which, at the minimum, will probably be worth 2-3 percentage points for McCain.

There’s a long way to go yet and anything can happen. But if I were putting money down today on who will end up winning on Nov. 5th, I’d definitely bet on John McCain & Sarah Palin.

Comment by Vince P | 2008-09-07 22:34:56

I think Mr McCain has to get a concrete narrative going.

I think our govt is in a financial meltdown. He has to stress that we’ll be in emergency and that he will work right away on the money side, and that the Palin will immediately move with energy production.

I hven’t heard the speech they give so i have no what they say.

And then a plan for how to deal with Nancy Stretch Pelosi

Comment by JohninCA | 2008-09-07 22:59:30

Yeah, I would say eight trillion in debt with a half trillion deficit is a meltdown.

Still, I hope Sarah knows what to do with those that would see another Republican administration as an invitation to rape and pillage the middle class, yet again.

We’re gonna need a maverick and a reformer for sure.

If the Republicans don’t get off their aszes and register more voters O-pie hole will win by sheer numbers.

Especially with Soros’ “Vote America” and Barky’s ACORN to which he’s still funneling money–they are busy I’m sure making up names for scores of fake voter registrations (AGAIN). They’ll have to get creative, they already used up “Mr. Jive Turkey”.

Comment by For Impartial Journalism | 2008-09-08 02:22:03

I think it was a separate question just about how one rated the speech (excellent, good, fair, poor?)?

As far as stagecraft and eloquence, most would rate Obama’s speech better than McCain’s.

Of course, IMHO, as far as truth, character, straight talk, and sincerity, I would vote McCain’s the best. :)

Thank you NancyA for providing the information.

Comment by Chicago Joe | 2008-09-07 22:35:54

Obama’s bounce was predicted to be as high as `15%, but that never materialized. This actually may reflect the fact that he had soft support, and people were looking for another option. Though the Palin pick may have been ostensibly an overt play for women, they are finding that men really like her and might be more enthusiastic about voting for McCain. What a difference a day makes. And I think it is karmic because Barry was all that when he was new…..and now he ain’t the new one anymore!

I was at a high school football game Friday night, sitting in front of some very elderly gentlemen. The topic of discussion turned to politics. These men were thrilled with McCain’s pick for VP!! The other day, an elderly guy who rents our pasture, stopped by to visit. He brought up politics, and he too was THRILLED with Sarah Palin.

I agree with the poster up thread. I’m even MORE proud of my country knowing that many see through Sen. Obama and are ready to embrace a woman VP. I only wish it was Hillary at the top of the ticket being embraced.

Creationism and evolution are not mutually exclusive. Sarah has said that Creationism should not be taught as a subject, but if it came up, it should be discussed.

I went to public, and Catholic schools. We discussed creation in Public schools, and studied natural histoy in Catholic school.

Einstein said that the more he learned about science, the more he believed in a creator.

Comment by pbsc | 2008-09-08 03:36:41

So true. Palin has plainly never said that evolution should not be taught, and she only wants communities and parents deciding whether or not to allow a discussion of creationism in the classroom if it comes up. I can live with that.

The Obama campaign will now focus on trying to derail Palin. Obama sent his first wave of thugs into Alaska — 30 goons to try and dig up dirt on Palin.

Obama’s major strategy will consist of the following:

1. Dig up dirt on Palin with the ultimate hope of getting her off the ticket.
2. Race card
3. Sex card

The focus will now be on Palin and trying to tie her into some sort of racist comment or involvement with someone they can try to say is racist. Obama feels he can hit a home run and score on all 3 by trying to tie paint Palin as racist.

Obama would like to divert attention from the racist church attended and the racist pastors made spiritual advisors to him. Obama also made racist comments in his own book.

The media does not want to criticize Obama for being racist but will be happy to jump on any story or rumor that they could tie into Palin as racist.

Comment by Johnny at Work | 2008-09-07 22:50:04

It’s the “Dirt on Palin” that has turned so many voters away from Fraudbama.

Comment by joe | 2008-09-08 00:18:44

Yah, good luck with all of that Team Obama. With a recent 83% approval rating, I bet the people of Alaska know a losing bet when they see one. I would bet that people up there know what Obama has on his hands, and wouldn’t dare get in her way.

The media and the Obama campaign have lost all credibility in the eyes of most independent and conservative voters. They both painted a caricature of her which was drasticly off base when they viewed her speech, what the media said became irrelevant.

Gov. Palin is a rare political talent. Like Reagan and Clinton, people don’t care what the media says about them, because they like them. She connects with people and they understand her. Coupled with a real deal war hero who is a true bipartisan reformer, the ticket cannot lose and they can dig up all the dirt in the world, and it won’t matter.

Look at where the candidates have been going: Obama in Pennsylvania and Michigan. McCain in Wisconsin, Michigan, and Colorado. McCain is on offense and Obama on defense. Obama spent two to three days in Pennsylvania, and if his numbers are bleeding that badly there, he is in REAL trouble.

As I have said before (Oh no, I’m starting to sound like Barry), I highly doubt Zerobama’s thugs will find anything on Palin because:

a) If there was anything there, Ted Stevens, the Oil companies and the Republican machine, all of whom she took on, would have found it long ago and used it against her.

b) She is from a small town, where everyone knows everyone else’s business. A quick canvass of the local beauty salons would have revealed any hidden dirt on Palin.

More the what Obama is feeling and thinking right now - I am sure Donna Brazile and Michele are going through the roof.

Comment by Above My Pay Grade | 2008-09-07 23:37:39

Lieberman yes, but Clinton, I highly doubt.

McCain might possibly offer her something, but I am sure she would turn it down.

If she accepted a cabinet post from McCain it would look like she had a deal with him to help derail Obama, which would kill her chances of running in 2012.

Hilary needs to keep doing what she is doing. That is, going through the motions of supporting Obama, so that she won’t be unfairly blamed for his defeat.

It seems obvious, though she has been a loyal Democrat and is making a good faith effort for Zerobama, her heart is clearly not in it, nor should it be after the way Obama and his hit squad treated her and her husband.

Comment by For Impartial Journalism | 2008-09-08 02:48:33

I think Hillary would most benefit by staying in the Senate and working up her own additional record of bi-partisanship. Think of Hillary and Palin working together to get rid of Pelosi and Reid? How cool would that be?

If my prayers are answered and McCain/Palin win in November, the majority will have spoken as to their attitudes on wanting Washington cleaned up and demanding that those elected get back to the business of representing the people rather than special interests.

If Hillary leads the way on the Democratic Party side, she will be in a prime position to run again in 2012.

Needs a two thirds vote by both houses of congress and ratification by 3/4 of the states.

Comment by Johnny at Work | 2008-09-07 23:35:24

The repubs “Contract for America” authored by former House Speaker Newt Gingrich had “Term Limits” as one of it’s main goals. This ushered in the first republican majority in the House in 40yrs of Dem majorities.

The failure of the Republican Revolution to achieve any of its goals, term limits, campaign finance, ethics reforms, balanced budgets, was what McCain refered to in his convention speech when he said, “we failed to keep our promise, and we have to make it right.” or words to that effect.

California passed term limits for the State Senate, and representatives as a result of the populist “Contract for America”. Career Politicians may be a dying breed at least in that state.

Comment by hank48188 | 2008-09-08 09:24:10

We voted in term Limits in Michiganistan and it hasn’t been very good. The huge turnover means you have many new people that have no idea what to do. By the time they get a clue their time is up. That is what elections are, Term Limits for people doing a bad job, people that are doing a good job get to stay.

Erm…wow. Lindsay did you even read the article you linked to?

Here for anyone who is interested:

What are the two secrets that will rip the mask from Obama’s young face and reveal his charade for what it is-phantom liberalism?

Floyd Brown has the answers!

And who better to begin the unmasking than Floyd Brown, the man who has loyally served the conservative cause since the Reagan years. Floyd’s search for the real man behind the mask took him onto 3 continents, into the slums of South Chicago, up into New York’s power suites, and out to Hollywood…

Floyd had no interest in attacking Obama with base accusations or wild smears. He aimed for the simple facts…

Would the mad
billionaire George
Soros run wild in an
Obama White House?

But what he uncovered - especially two plots being hatched by George Soros and David Geffen to steal the White House for Obama - were the most damning things we’ve ever seen in politics.

There are several good books on Obama, and I applaud them all. But no other book reveals these two secret plots, plots which clearly explain how Obama rose to power so quickly and how dearly we’ll all pay if he wins.

These plots could be as damaging to Obama as Deep Throat was to Nixon or Whitewater to Clinton. When these revelations hit the streets, they’ll he hotter than a liberal hawking global warming.

If Obama fails in his bid, it will be because of new discoveries about the people who brought him into this world, who groomed him for this moment, who now see themselves on the cusp of controlling a superpower-a lifelong dream of these people, these handlers.

So I am asking you to get Obama Unmasked and then tell at least five friends to get a copy as well - that’s how we’ll stop the Obama media machine from rolling right over an unsuspecting electorate.

Geffen’s “November Surprise” Could Trick Millions into Voting for Obama and Make Soros a Fortune.

A dirty Chicago machine
made Obama, and will be
expecting blood loyalty…

Soros’ lefty candidates have lost the last two elections, and he’s pissing mad. He has $7 billion to spend to get it right this time! He is reportedly planning to sack the U.S. economy, make himself billions richer, and put Obama in the White House marching to his mad tune. All the details, as well as how you’ll be affected financially, are in the book.

And out on the left coast, Obama has a powerful ally in billionaire Hollywood mogul David Geffen.

Nobody knows how to spin a yarn better than Hollywood’s finest, David Geffen. And according to our source, he’ll be a whirling dervish!

Radical leftists see Obama as their ticket to power-and they are pulling out all the stops. Not just an October Surprise, but a November Surprise as well. The first from New York, the second from Hollywood.

We may be in for the craziest election ever, with so many unknowns…

That’s why Floyd has worked so hard to peel back the mask and reveal the real Obama, his true political leanings, and what we could expect from an Obama presidency.

Few books are written in hopes of being unnecessary in just a few months-but this is one of those books. Our hope is that this book will be remaindered on November 5th because Obama has been told by voters that he’s not ready for such an important job.

Our fear is that voters will say otherwise.

So we’re doing our best to make sure we’re not stuck in an Obama nation. Can you help?

It sounds like they really want you to buy their book when it hits…

I hope its well written and juicy and salacious…with lots of incontrovertible facts mixed in with the inuendos and suppositions.

In any event…i am sure it will sell well if they
do it right.

This has been the model this campaign has used from the beginning. Anybody who doesn’t “get” the “hopey-changey” message… it’s not the message. Because the message comes from “The One” the message is beyond reproach. They conclude then that we are either “low education” a code word for hic or redneck… or that we are “racists” either overt racists or that we are an even worse kind of racist… racists that don’t even realize we are racists… bring on the self imposed guilt compliments of Saul Alinsky.

MSNBC Takes Incendiary Hosts From Anchor Seat
By BRIAN STELTER

MSNBC tried a bold experiment this year by putting two politically incendiary hosts, Keith Olbermann and Chris Matthews, in the anchor chair to lead the cable news channel’s coverage of the election.

That experiment appears to be over.

After months of accusations of political bias and simmering animosity between MSNBC and its parent network NBC, the channel decided over the weekend that the NBC News correspondent and MSNBC host David Gregory would anchor news coverage of the coming debates and election night. Mr. Olbermann and Mr. Matthews will remain as analysts during the coverage.

The change — which comes in the home stretch of the long election cycle — is a direct result of tensions associated with the channel’s perceived shift to the political left.

“The most disappointing shift is to see the partisan attitude move from prime time into what’s supposed to be straight news programming,” said Davidson Goldin, formerly the editorial director of MSNBC and a co-founder of the reputation management firm DolceGoldin.

Executives at the channel’s parent company, NBC Universal, had high hopes for MSNBC’s coverage of the political conventions. Instead, the coverage frequently descended into on-air squabbles between the anchors, embarrassing some workers at NBC’s news division, and quite possibly alienating viewers. Although MSNBC nearly doubled its total audience compared with the 2004 conventions, its competitive position did not improve, as it remained in last place among the broadcast and cable news networks. In prime time, the channel averaged 2.2 million viewers during the Democratic convention and 1.7 million viewers during the Republican convention.

The success of the Fox News Channel in the past decade along with the growth of political blogs have convinced many media companies that provocative commentary attracts viewers and lures Web browsers more than straight news delivered dispassionately.

“In a rapidly changing media environment, this is the great philosophical debate,” Phil Griffin, the president of MSNBC, said in a telephone interview Saturday. Fighting the ratings game, he added, “the bottom line is that we’re experiencing incredible success.”

But as the past two weeks have shown, that success has a downside. When the vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin lamented media bias during her speech, attendees of the Republican convention loudly chanted “NBC.”

In interviews, 10 current and former staff members said that long-simmering tensions between MSNBC and NBC reached a boiling point during the conventions. “MSNBC is behaving like a heroin addict,” one senior staff member observed. “They’re living from fix to fix and swearing they’ll go into rehab the next week.”

The employee, like others, spoke on condition of anonymity because the network does not permit it people to speak to the media without authorization. (The New York Times and NBC News have a content-sharing arrangement exclusively for political coverage.)

Mr. Olbermann, a 49-year-old former sportscaster, has become the face of the more aggressive MSNBC, and the lightning rod for much of the criticism. His program “Countdown,” now a liberal institution, was created by Mr. Olbermann in 2003 but it found its voice in his gnawing dissent regarding the Bush administration, often in the form of “special comment” segments.

As Mr. Olbermann raised his voice, his ratings rose as well, and he now reaches more than one million viewers a night, a higher television rating than any other show in the troubled 12-year history of the network. As a result, his identity largely defines MSNBC. “They have banked the entirety of the network on Keith Olbermann,” one employee said.

In January, Mr. Olbermann and Mr. Matthews, the host of “Hardball,” began co-anchoring primary night coverage, drawing an audience that enjoyed the pair’s “SportsCenter”-style show. While some critics argued that the assignment was akin to having the Fox News commentator Bill O’Reilly anchor on election night — something that has never happened — MSNBC insisted that Mr. Olbermann knew the difference between news and commentary.

But in the past two weeks, that line has been blurred. On the final night of the Republican convention, after MSNBC televised the party’s video “tribute to the victims of 9/11,” including graphic footage of the World Trade Center attacks, Mr. Olbermann abruptly took off his journalistic hat.

“I’m sorry, it’s necessary to say this,” he began. After saying that the video had exploited the memories of the dead, he directly apologized to viewers who were offended. Then, sounding like a network executive, he said it was “probably not appropriate to be shown.”

In an interview on Sunday, Mr. Olbermann said that moment — and the perception that he is “not utterly neutral” — restarted months-old conversations about his role on political nights.

“I found it ironic and instructive that I could have easily said exactly what I did say, exactly when I did say it, if I had been wearing a different hat, and nobody would have taken any issue,” he said.

“Countdown” will still be shown before the three fall debates and a second edition will be shown sometime afterwards, following the program anchored by Mr. Gregory.

The change casts new doubt on what some staff members believe is an effective programming strategy: prime-time talk of a liberal sort. A like-minded talk show will now follow “Countdown” at 9 p.m.: “The Rachel Maddow Show,” hosted by the liberal radio host, begins Monday.

Mr. Griffin, MSNBC’s president, denies that it has an ideology. “I think ideology means we think one way, and we don’t,” he said. Rather than label MSNBC’s prime time as left-leaning, he says it has passion and point of view.

But MSNBC is the cable arm of NBC News, the dispassionate news division of NBC Universal. MSNBC, “Today” and “NBC Nightly News” share some staff members, workspace and content. And some critics are claiming they also share a political affiliation.

The McCain campaign has filed letters of complaint to the news division about its coverage and openly tied MSNBC to it. Tension between the network and the campaign hit an apex the day Mr. McCain announced Gov. Sarah Palin as his running mate. MSNBC had reported Friday morning that Ms. Palin’s plane was enroute to the announcement and she was likely the pick. But McCain campaign officials warned the network off, with one official going so far as to say that all of the candidates on the short list were on their way — which MSNBC then reported.

“The fact that it was reported in real time was very embarrassing,” said a senior MSNBC official. “We were told, ‘No, it’s not Sarah Palin and you don’t know who it is.’ ”

Tom Brokaw and Brian Williams, the past and present anchors of “NBC Nightly News,” have told friends and colleagues that they are finding it tougher and tougher to defend the cable arm of the news division, even while they anchored daytime hours of convention coverage on MSNBC and contributed commentary each evening.

Mr. Williams did not respond to a request for comment and Mr. Brokaw declined to comment. At a panel discussion in Denver, Mr. Brokaw acknowledged that Mr. Olbermann and Mr. Matthews had “gone too far” at times, but emphasized they were “not the only voices” on MSNBC, according to The Washington Post.

Al Hunt, the executive Washington bureau chief of Bloomberg News, said that the entire news division was being singled out by Republicans because of the work of partisans like Mr. Olbermann. “To go and tar the whole news network and Brokaw and Mitchell is grossly unfair,” he said, referring to the NBC correspondent Andrea Mitchell.

Some tensions have spilled out on-screen. On the first night in Denver, as the fellow MSNBC host Joe Scarborough talked about the resurgence of the McCain campaign, Mr. Olbermann dismissed it by saying: “Jesus, Joe, why don’t you get a shovel?”

The following night, Mr. Olbermann and his co-anchor for convention coverage, Mr. Matthews, had their own squabble after Mr. Olbermann observed that Mr. Matthews had talked too long.

Some staff members said the tension led to the network’s decision to keep Mr. Olbermann in New York for the Republican convention, after he ran the desk in Denver during the Democratic convention. MSNBC said that he stayed in New York to anchor coverage of Hurricane Gustav. But some workers say there were other reasons — namely, that Mr. Olbermann was concerned about his safety in St. Paul, given the loud crowds at MSNBC’s set in Denver.

NBC Universal executives are also known to be concerned about the perception that MSNBC’s partisan tilt in prime time is bleeding into the rest of the programming day. On a recent Friday afternoon, a graphic labeled “Breaking News” asked: “How many houses does Palin add to the Republican ticket?” Mr. Griffin called the graphic “an embarrassment.”

According to three staff members, Jeff Zucker, chief executive of NBC Universal, and Steve Capus, president of NBC News, considered flying to the Republican convention in Minnesota last week to address the lingering tensions.

Up to now, the company’s public support for MSNBC’s strategy has been enthusiastic. At an anniversary party for Mr. Olbermann in April, Mr. Zucker called “Countdown” “one of the signature brands of the entire company.”

Just last year, Mr. Olbermann signed a four-year, $4-million-a-year contract with MSNBC. NBC is close to supplementing that contract with Mr. Olbermann, extending his deal through 2013 — and ensuring that he will be on MSNBC through the next election.

I saw his talking points full of lies get put out over and over and heard them repeated to hurt me and others who supported Hillary with thug like perfection from a gang they implemented things like “How will Hillary be able to deal with the middle east as a woman - they don’t respect women and they will not respect her like Obama.” I was called a racist and I saw Hillary and Bill Clinton called racists. Obama did this. His people where harsh and were unwilling to have a legit campaign they took it to the back alleys and gutter and ruined the Democratic Party.

Obama said today he would delay rescinding Bush’s tax cuts on wealthy Americans if he becomes the next president and the economy is in a recession, suggesting such an increase would further hurt the economy.

The Tax Policy Center, a think tank run jointly by the Brookings Institution and the Urban Institute, concluded that Obama would also raise taxes on small businesses that make more than $250,000 a year.

Comment by fluffy bunny | 2008-09-07 23:45:16

Bill should have conditions before he agrees to stump for barky - lots of them, including:

- $20 million, or however much is left on Hillary’s debt, payable immediately

- bambi himself to publicly admit he - falsely - used the race card on the Clintons as a campaign tactic - and bambi himself to publicly renounce it

- bambi to publicly embrace and promise to implement Hillary’s health care plan

Oh, there could be other conditions - so many others!

It’s all moot, though - barky would never accept any of these conditions so Bill has his out - no campaigning for barky.

Of course, Bill could just plain out refuse, which is what I hope he does.

I guess it is plain to see that I took to liking Sarah right away. I still have my Hillary stuff all around the office, but I like this lady.

Her jersey number she held when she took her high school team to the state championships was 22. I love teasing numerologists, so I point out that mother plus leader equals 22 + 22 or 44.

Now throw that out of your head and visit my store. I set it up. I have no idea how it works or who gets the money. But it sure was fun doing it. You can get your own Wasilla 22 Warriors shirt right here - right now.

It doesn’t bother you that most of Sarah Palin’s positions are in total opposition to those of Hillary Clinton?

Apparently this bothers you no more than the fact that John McCain’s positions are nearly identical to those of George W. Bush.

what the hell?

At least McCain and Palin are chomping at the bit to go knock heads in the damn congress and get pork and earmarks killed.

Comment by ziggy | 2008-09-08 00:45:42

What McCain is going to do is obstruct democratic congressional initiatives with vetos. Didn’t you hear what Palin said about the power of vetos during her recent speech?

They’ll stall Congress to deepen public disapproval, then Palin will run as the republican candidate in 2012. By then, the democratic majority in Congress will have been eroded, and a couple more right-leaning judges will be sitting on the Supreme Court. Clinton will be probably lose the 2012 election to a solidly entrenched Palin.

Karl Rove probably has the whole strategy mapped out on his bedroom wall.

Comment by Fred | 2008-09-08 01:20:50

Vetos to stop earmarks? What’s the problem with that?

Idiot.

Comment by ziggy | 2008-09-08 01:40:48

I would venture the opinion that anyone who would vote to put a personable-but-inexperienced 22 month governor of the 3rd least populace state in the nation a heartbeat away from assuming the duties of Commander in Chief of the largest military force on the planet ought to have their own head examined.

With all due respect, of course…

Comment by ritamary | 2008-09-08 02:55:26

Want to talk about experience? What about a presidential candidate who has never had any executive experience except with a non-profit organization that he refuses to talk about? What about a candidate who voted present 130 times while he served in a state legislature? How about a candidate who chaired a US Senate subcommittee but never held one meeting because he was “too busy running for president”?

Here’s good commentary from Willie Brown who is an astute politician, dapper dresser, past mayor of SF and past head of the CA Assembly about Palin as a political natural

and here’s a feminist and former head of the L.A. chapter of NOW praising Palin and why Hillary’s voters will vote for her

Hey if you live any where near Palo Alto, you can vote against Anna Eshoo who as SD endorsed Obama early. I used to like her because she’s good on the environment, but you know, ANYONE from this district is going to be great on environment so what’s so special about her? Plus, this district went for Hillary in the primary I believe, so endorsing Blomama was a violation of voter intent.

I’m afraid the cheating is going to be on the Republican side. They’ve already got a list of 650,000 young and minority voters that will be challenged in Ohio on election. The Republican-controlled election board is running the same “caging” scam they ran there in 2004.

Right. All who don’t share the prevailing opinions here are trolls by definition. I keep forgetting that.

I keep forgetting that true democrats now support republican policy, and that the Democratic Party is the party of privilage and self-interest, while the Republican Party is the party of the selfless love of country–despite all evidence to the contrary.

I haven’t quite gotten unboard with the idea that Palin is the new Hillary Clinton yet.

I also keep forgetting that Obama is Bush, while McCain is Change.

Perhaps I’ll retire for the evening and contemplate these self-evident truths. *S*

Not that I’m keeping score or anything, but what happened to:
50 state strategy, fundagelicals flocking, red states turning blue, Hillary voters coming home, being kool, undecideds being overwhelmed by cheering Berliners, the “surge” being a non-issue, suburbanites putting issues aside and voting with urbans, traditional swing states not swinging this time, campaign “energy,” being ahead by double digits by Labor Day — is there any prognosticated strategy of the BZero campaign that has the least bit chance of being true?

It is not a campaign between red America and blue America.

It is not a campaign between the politics of the past and the politics of the future.

Here is the scenario I would like to see.

I supported Hillary, and she was my pick for ‘08.

I want to see her run against McCain/Palin in 2012 and LOSE.

Why do I want Hillary to lose in 2012, when I support her?

Because if she can’t beat McCain/Palin, it will mean McCain/Palin achieved the goals and commitments they made for ending corruption, pork, earmarks, and wasteful spending.

McCain went to Iowa “Where the Tall Corn Grows” and said he would end subsidies for farming corn. That did not endear him to many Iowans, but it got my attention.

If Hillary loses in 2012, it will mean McCain was successful.

Hillary will work with McCain on health care reform, and McCain will welcome it. If they succeed, McCain/Palin will win again in 2012.

But the reality is, we will all have won.

Every time the DEM elite try to pack the caucuses and cram some candidate down our throats, they lose (McGovern, Dukakis, etc.) These effete snobs have been swimming in self-congratulatory crap so long they can’t smell it anymore. It nonetheless stinks!

This latest poll is just the start of the true measure of Obama’s support. Rigged committees, bought-off/threatened delegates, bussed in swooning acolytes, obsequious ‘news’ comentators, and marketing savvy are no substitute for honest political thought and action. What appears to be a vast sea of Obama support is actually no more than ankle deep. A shallow dead sea destined to evaporate.

The cabal of DEM insiders that engineered this coup by surrounding Hillary with traitors and snarling dogs barely managed to run out the clock. Now what? McCain’s opening salvo slapped you so hard your face errupted in pimples. “OMG brittany, did UC that disgusting growth, what was that?”

Your TV conspirators are a laughingstock, your drunken admirari are sobering up, Karl Rove has your Pakistani passport in his back pocket, Resko is gonna rat on you, Ayers, Annenberg, Wright, Phlegler, the list is endless. You’ll be lucky to stay out of jail. And try that brush off/flip off dismissal with McCain and see what happens Huckleberry.

Now that Hillary is safely out of the picture, the Repubs are going to tear you a new one — and your so full of it, that probably won’t help.

AFTER you called me a racist, told me to get lost, flipped me off, and lied and cheated your way into the nomination, you want to be friends. I’ll give you exactly as much respect as you gave Hillary.

DON’T COME RUNNING TO ME!

Ya know, I was thinking last night about what my own father had accomplished by age 47 — the same age as Barky Boy.

Dad, raised in poverty, joined Army in Jan. 1941. He had a high school degree. As soon as the war started, he decided to go to Officer Candidate School and became a Chemical Warfare Officer. Served in Pacific Theater and was base adjutant at Tachikawa AFB in Japan during the occupation.

He married my Mom along the way.

Contracted TB while stationed at the Pentagon. Put on inactive duty (TB was scary back then), sent to Fitzsimmmons AFB Hospital for a year. Monitored for the next 6 years to make sure TB did not re-occur.

Since he was on inactive duty, Dad got bored. While in hospital, he decided to take some correspondence courses. Once out of hospital, he decided to go to U of Maryland and get a Bachelor’s degree.

Still on inactive duty, he decided to go to Washington College of Law at American University in DC and get a law degree. That was 1955, and he was still only 36.

Retired into AF Reserves and continued through 1961 to get 20 years service in (qualified for military pension).

Became a Daddy in 1962. :)

Practiced law from fall 1955 until July 1967 when he was appointed as a Circuit Court Judge in Maryland. Won election the next year for a fifteen year term and cut his “pay grade” from $250,000 to $18,000 per year. :p

In July, 1967, he was just a month shy of his 48th birthday.

Now, remind me exactly what Barky has done with that same amount of time?

THE TRUE LEADERS TAKE THE LEAD …
Once again … if you compare McCain/Palin’s track record with Obama/Biden’s, it’s no contest. McCain/Palin are a hundred times more qualified to lead this country. McCain/Palin show scores of actual achievements and solid service to America, while once again, Obama’s track record is one of excessive absences from his responsibilities, and all talk with no actual experience, or contributions to America. Like Governor Palin has pointed out … Obama had the time to write two memoirs, but never wrote one piece of significant legislation … not even when he was in the state legislature. Regarding earmarks, and the economy … If Obama gets elected, his irresponsible and clueless ideas for shifting America’s wealth would turn the U.S.A. into a third world country, with businesses laying off employees to keep their doors open. Obama’s ideas for national security would de-fang America and make us weak, putting us at the mercy of the world’s tyrants.
