Reply All: Rejecting Obama’s E-mail Smear Campaign (Template Included)

I stole this brilliant image from Not Your Sweetie blog, illustrating a story on the smear campaign currently being waged against Palin by the Stupid Media, Obama’s surrogates, the so-called “progressives,” the Bots, and the regressive morons who compose the political party formerly known as Democrats.

They first launched baby-gate, a carnival of misogyny celebrated by world-class misogynists accusing Sarah Palin of being her son, Trig’s, grandmother. Then they trotted out Dan Quayle-gate, Barbie-gate, go go boots-gate, trooper-gate, polar bear-gate, pipeline-gate, vindictive bitch-gate, book banning-gate, racist-gate and on and on it goes. And now the Obamacans are using faux personal emails to smear Palin. Here’s the beginning of one that I received from a friend, who received it from a friend, who also received it from a friend:

This is from a Bryn Mawr college grad to her fellow alums

Dear classmates -

As an Alaskan, I am writing to give all of you some information on Sarah Palin, Senator McCain’s choice for VP. As an Alaska voter, I now more than most of you about her and, frankly, I am horrified that he picked her. The most accurate description of her is red neck….

This email is allegedly from a former Bryn Mawr graduate (read, she’s no one’s fool) sent as a heads-up to her fellow alums. In the many paragraphs that follow, the email leaves no stone unturned in its attack against Palin. The biggest giveaway that it’s a fake, besides the relentless savaging of Palin, is the claim that Biden will make a much better VP, followed by the assertion that anyone who supported Hillary should now support Barky. But this is line that cracks me up:

Palin isn’t “squeaky clean” and causes me to think there may be more issues that could come to light.

I have a few names for that light:

William Ayers, Tony Rezko, Jeremiah Wright, Khalid al-Mansour, Zbigniew Brzezinski, Jesse Jackson Jr.

This email was followed by another:

Books Sarah Palin wanted banned in Wasilla

This was the subject line of an email from my worried sister-in-law. Based on a Time Magazine article, the email includes a list of dozens of books that Palin is said to have wanted banned from the Wasilla library:

[Former Wasilla mayor] Stein says that as mayor, Palin continued to inject religious beliefs into her policy at times. “She asked the library how she could go about banning books,” he says, because some voters thought they had inappropriate language in them. “The librarian was aghast.” The librarian, Mary Ellen Baker, couldn’t be reached for comment, but news reports from the time show that Palin had threatened to fire her for not giving “full support” to the mayor.” Mary Ellen Baker resigned from her library director job in 1999.

I found a rebuttal to this smear from the comments to Conflucian garychapelhill’s very fine post “Sometimes They Write (Fake) Letters.

BTW —- the smear campaign is saying the Gov Palin wanted to ban books — but my girlfriend did all the research and guess what — IT’s NOT TRUE.

HERE’S THE RESEARCH AND e-mail she sent back to her friend.

http://www.gamepolitics.com/2008/09/03/republican-vp-choice-sarah-palin-tried-ban-books

http://www.cityofwasilla.com/index.aspx?page=136

hey, so i researched the link you sent me about banning books. i researched this further since I am skeptic about Time.
Time mag had BO on several covers, more than any other candidate. almost monthly. i subscribed to Time and then cancelled after seeing BO on the cover for the 10th time. and was sick of the biased reporting.

check out the first link: i found the article on gamepolitics that reports the story a whole less explosive. no details on books were ever discussed.

i went on line to the Frontiersman and other local papers in Wasilla and Alaska — no such story is depicted. I researched archives 1995- 1999. nothing in the four local and state papers.

which took me to the local board, city council post their records on their local website.
Apparently there are many inquiries, and you will see the link from the City of Wasilla, who has received several inquiries and the Mayor herself says there was no banning.

If she ever made the comment, she didn’t do anything, didn’t pursue, and not a matter of public record. if she ever made more than one comment, it would have made the papers, an ‘letter to the editor’, something. NOTHING is there.

So i don’t buy much into this story line. these are the stories that I call the “sound bites” that feed fear into people who wont’ do the research.

footnote: she is not in support of same sex marriage YET, her first Gubernatorial veto supported securing benefits for same sex partnerships for state employees

I really appreciate SimoFish’s corrective to this smear but, like me, you probably don’t have time to research and debunk each and every attack. As I was writing this, I received two more emails: one citing all the damage Palin will do to women and including the full text of Gloria Steinem’s article in the LATimes. Funny how the same people sending this email called Steinem an old hag when she wrote in favor of Hillary. And the second email contains an article by Charley James entitled “Alaskans Speak (In A Frightened Whisper): Palin Is “Racist, Sexist, Vindictive, And Mean.” Damn she’s scary! No doubt these emails will worsen and continue until Obama’s surrogates have filled every inbox in America. So, I’ve come up with the following response. Feel free to copy it and use it as your own and please include your additions in your comments:

BTW: This looks like a good clearing house on Palin rumors.

Dear friend,

I received your email with the attachment about Sarah Palin. While this report might be scary and threatening to some, to me it sounds like the same the kind of trash written about Hillary Clinton, Bill Clinton and even Barack Obama. However, since the Clintons are no longer in the race we can leave them out. But what I wonder is why it’s okay to say that Palin is a fundamentalist Christian but not okay to ask why Obama spent twenty years in the pews of Jeremiah Wright’s intolerant church? And why is it okay to allege that Palin wants to destroy Alaska’s wildlife but not okay to ask if Obama plans to support Hamas instead of Israel? And people can can accuse Palin of racism based on rumor and hearsay but not hold Obama accountable for playing the race card, quoting Malcolm X and accusing good people, particularly the Clintons, of racism. While I may not agree with Palin’s politics, I am unmoved by the smear campaign launched against her. Please do not send me any more political emails. While this e-mail goes to great lengths to appear to be politically correct and to be doing me a favor, it’s actually savaging someone’s reputation based on shoddy evidence or outright lies. After forty years of voting for the Democratic candidate for president, I want you to know that these sexist and hateful lies against Sarah Palin you forwarded go against the reason I am a Democrat. Therefore, under no circumstance will I be voting for Obama.

Best Regards,

Frankly I hope they continue to do more of this. Apparently they haven’t noticed that it pisses people off, due to their recent history of skewering the last woman who threatented The One.

This is the stuff that’s tanking them in the polls. How delicious!

The behavior of Obama’s supporters seems distinctly compulsive–as when they started calling their fellow Democrats racists.

Any sane person could have told them that this would drive a stake through the heart of the party.

Their reaction to Sarah Palin is equally suicidal, as the polls demonstrate. Yet the Obamites can’t stop themselves.

I can only conclude that the Democratic Party has been taken over by a group of people who are clinically insane. :(

The behavior of Obama’s supporters seems distinctly compulsive–as when they started calling their fellow Democrats racists.

And the net result was a bigger audience for Palin’s speech than watched Biden, and almost as big as Obama’s. (actually it was probably the same as Obama’s because a couple networks blacked out Palin).

The compulsive nuts are doing the RNC’s work for them.

Comment by Hope Floats | 2008-09-08 09:34:34

The audience for Palin’s speech was greater than Obama’s nearly double that of Biden’s.

Comment by Andy | 2008-09-08 09:05:14

It is amazing how the “if you do not support Obama you are a racist” comment is permeating a large portion of the population voting for teh ticket this Nov. I hear it in people’s conversations at airports, I hear it from
“friends”. I just heard last night again: a friend had 2 men from “the South” that had just moved to MA paint their home. These two workers were former Hillary supporters. My friend asked them while discussing the politics of New England if they would vote for Obama. They said they were not sure they could support him.
So, another friend listening -like me- to this story asks with intent and fake indigation: “Were they white??!!”

I almost choke on my food and snaped: “Oh C’on stop that crap” (couldn’t go any further b/c there were little kids around).

It is unbelievable and unforgivable how the Obama camp & the MSM have seared this meme in people’s minds.

Slightly off topic, but not really.
Did anyone see the New York Times this am? Seems we’re finally getting through to NBC and their bottom line concerns. They are pulling their ‘incendiary’MSNBC anchors, Olbermann and Matthews from election night coverage. They are relegated to ‘analyst’ roles.
Read the article. Your good work is beginning to open their eyes to the fact that we aren’t going to take it anymore.

Comment by Vince P | 2008-09-08 09:36:15

I dont think NBC is reacting to its viewers.. I think their staff is fed up.. have you seen all the fights bubble up to being on-air?

There are major conflicts behind the scenes.. that is why they shuffled..

Not because they are trying to be less sycophantic

I am beginning to wonder whether the charge of “banning books” is a smokescreen for Obamacan efforts to supress free speech on the internet through posts like these.

It seems that a couple of New Jersey towns are trying to force “NJ.com” to reveal the identities of bloggers on their site.

http://www.hudsonreporter.com/site/news.cfm?newsid=20108147&BRD=1291&PAG=461&dept_id=523587&rfi=6

It’s bad enough that the Kool- Aid drinkers have bamboozled the MSM. Can we allow them to further erode our rights to free speech through this type of strangle-hold on the internet?

You can call it instinct.
I’m unable to watch movies that show violence against women as it enrages me and I’m unable to do anything to protect the victim.
The same is for Sarah.
Republicans and bitter guys like me are very protective of our women.
The democrats haven’t a clue what their up against.

We will fight for what’s right!!!

Comment by K.L. | 2008-09-08 01:44:23

Somehow Seattle Moss I do not think that Sarah-cuda necessarily needs protection….lol. I really think that she can hold her own.

Check this out for those of you who do not think that Sarah-cuda has experience. Decide for yourselves and think about what a community organizer does. BTW, The PTA is a major community organizer. Sarah-cuda just graduated to bigger and better things as her talents allowed.

SARAH PALIN’S EXPERIENCE:

Don’t dismiss the fact that Sarah Palin is Commander of the Alaska National Guard– consider this.

Alaska is the first line of defense in our missile interceptor defense system. The 49th Missile Defense Battalion of the Alaska National Guard is the unit that protects the entire nation from ballistic missile attacks. It’s on permanent active duty, unlike other Guard units.

As governor of Alaska , Palin is briefed on highly classified military issues, homeland security, and counter terrorism. Her exposure to classified material may rival even Biden’s and certainly by far exceeds Obama’s.

She’s also the commander in chief of the Alaska State Defense Force (ASDF), a federally recognized militia incorporated into Homeland Security’s counter terrorism plans.

Palin is privy to military and intelligence secrets that are vital to the entire country’s defense. Given Alaska ’s proximity to Russia , she may have security clearances we don’t even know about.

According to the Washington Post, she first met with McCain in February, but nobody ever found out. This is a woman used to keeping secrets.

She can be entrusted with our national security, because she already is.

Comment by Feelin' Testy | 2008-09-16 23:17:19

holy crap, what a load of hooey! You believe that being the head of the Alaska National Guard givees this knucklehead some sort of credible experience? That’s a real stretch…

Palin was a horrible choice – she is not – and never will be IMO – ready for ANY national office.

Comment by AdrianS | 2008-09-08 00:25:21

It’s interesting to note that our of sheer desparation Mr. Obama has now sent out S.O.S. signals to Hillary. But she is too busy with getting her butt out of debt that she has no meaningful time for Obama.

Besides what can Hillary say? “Don’t vote for Palin ’cause she’s a woman.” Or maybe, “Democrats find it unusual that a woman would want to run for higher office.” Will Hillary attack Palin on experience when Obama lacks it? Will Hillary say Palin has no foreign affairs when Obama chose Joe Biden to help him with this weakness?

Or perhaps Hillary will say Joe Biden will make a better V.P. than Sarah Palin. No, she can’t — that would kill the idea of change and hope right away. You see Joe’s an old crusty guy who’s been in the Senate for 37 years. Perhaps she’ll tell Joe he’s got to go if change is to be had.

Obama’s problems are multiplying fast. He’s now saying that he would have enlisted in the military. It’s nothing more than a cheap shot to counter the honorable military service and sacrifice of John McCain to America. More empty talk. Obama’s a scoundrel. No cigar. If I had wings I could fly.

No more Obama. Elvis has left the building.

I wonder who’s using the Styrofoam pillars nowadays. Too bad, Obama. No more circus.

No more Obama. Good night and good riddance.

Comment by pbsc | 2008-09-08 01:46:36

She’s too smart to be goaded into a girl fight: Hillary has said repeatedly that she will not attack Palin directly, so Obama would be better off sending the media to do his work. Wait a minute…

Comment by Raven | 2008-09-08 13:40:31

FoxNews just reported on Obama’s request to
Hillary to go after Gov. Palin. “She will campaign
on the issues, will not use personal attacks”,
this from Lanny Davis.
I wish thank Medusa for this excellent post. I par-
ticularly appreciate the piece by Simofish. I read
the piece by Mr. James that he named. I posted it here. I did so in an honest desire know, “who is this person”? What are we not being told? But, that
doesn’t mean that I want lies and distortions about Gov. Palin. Those of us who have for years been
supporters of Sen. Clinton, have nothing but loathing for those who utilzed such tactics in the
primary. And now…so many of OB’s supporters are
going fullsteam ahead in doing so, having learned nothing!
I had the misfortune to have caught portion of
Bill Maher’s “New Rulz”…the words “amniotic fluid”
made their way into his “callous humor”! Disgusting.
Gov. Palin will be on ABC for an upcoming interview,
I look forward to that.
Gov. Palin done’s wonders for the Democratic party!
She’s caused them to have to reevaluate their choice, tactics, priorities and processes.
In a year where we should have been “leading”, we’ve
been “misled”.

Though I live in WV, I was raised in south western Virginia. In many counties there attacks and rape were never reported. Missing bodies of men who perpetrated those crimes were rarely solved.

We, here in the hills in VA, WV, PA OH,TN, KY, (the ARC is 13 states, so I will quit listing us) understand Alaska. We are very much like them.

Initially, Obama gave the impression that he was a liberal in order to solidify his base of supporters, but then moved to the right of HRC on all the issues. By looking at his circle of advisors on the economy (Goolsby), health care, Choice, campaign finance, national security (Bzrezinski & Soros), etc., his policies are also to the right of HRC.

I believe, Obama is a trojan horse for the monied interests of Wall Street who want to privatize further our national infrastructure, the military, and Social Security.

OT:

MSNBC Takes Incendiary Hosts From Anchor Seat

MSNBC tried a bold experiment this year by putting two politically incendiary hosts, Keith Olbermann and Chris Matthews, in the anchor chair to lead the cable news channel’s coverage of the election.

That experiment appears to be over.

After months of accusations of political bias and simmering animosity between MSNBC and its parent network NBC, the channel decided over the weekend that the NBC News correspondent and MSNBC host David Gregory would anchor news coverage of the coming debates and election night. Mr. Olbermann and Mr. Matthews will remain as analysts during the coverage.

The change — which comes in the home stretch of the long election cycle — is a direct result of tensions associated with the channel’s perceived shift to the political left.

“The most disappointing shift is to see the partisan attitude move from prime time into what’s supposed to be straight news programming,” said Davidson Goldin, formerly the editorial director of MSNBC and a co-founder of the reputation management firm DolceGoldin.

Executives at the channel’s parent company, NBC Universal, had high hopes for MSNBC’s coverage of the political conventions. Instead, the coverage frequently descended into on-air squabbles between the anchors, embarrassing some workers at NBC’s news division, and quite possibly alienating viewers. Although MSNBC nearly doubled its total audience compared with the 2004 conventions, its competitive position did not improve, as it remained in last place among the broadcast and cable news networks. In prime time, the channel averaged 2.2 million viewers during the Democratic convention and 1.7 million viewers during the Republican convention.

I’ve not bombarded my friends with anti-Obama anything via email (I do talk one on one, though). But if someone does email me pro-Obama or anti-Palin stuff now, I will respond vehemently.

To the email I got this evening, I said I was a proud PUMA voting for McCain and that I would not support caucus fraud. And I said a few other tasty things.

Also, anyone who emails me about supporting Obama is getting a link to the caucus fraud documentary:

No Bryn Mawr grad would mistake “now” for “know”. No Bryn Mawr grad would ever send out such an email without properly proof reading.

And reminded by the West Va poster here, I clearly heard Andrea Mitchell condemn the entire state as “hillbillies” when Hillary was there during the run up and not a word was said about that (and mostly every other miserable comment they’ve made).

Good point! And what Bryn Mawr grad has access to all the alums email addresses!??

Thanks for the information that refutes the lies and smears. Obama supporters seem to be using the same Method of Operation (MOP) as they did against Hillary Clinton.

Saw some good news today at Truthout.org of all places:

http://www.truthout.org/article/msnbc-demotes-keith-olbermann

MSNBC executives, who had publicly defended their anchors’ roles while privately monitoring it throughout the political season, made the change over the weekend after discussions with Olbermann. Despite the controversy around him, Olbermann has been a hero with left-leaning viewers and keyed MSNBC’s growth among coveted young viewers.

During her acceptance speech last week, Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin talked about the “Washington elite” not accepting her qualifications for the job. Some delegates on the convention floor began chanting, “N-B-C, N-B-C.”

Olbermann began to have difficulty keeping his opinions in check, or simply stopped trying.

He sarcastically dismissed GOP pundit Pat Buchanan on the air after Buchanan said the GOP had been enlivened by the entrance of a conservative Republican.

“Those reading US Weekly with the picture of her and her youngest daughter with the word `scandal’ written across it won’t be so happy,” Olbermann said.

I think you can drop the “I’m a Democrat” facade now. It lost any resemblance to truth some weeks ago.

Actually Jennifer, we are the Democrats. Those who are now parading under that title are the Moveon neolibs, the elitists who hate the blue collar workers, and those who would exploit women for their own gain.

Just wait till the truth of Fannie Mae comes out.

It will be the Democrat Party Enron , if not worse.

I’m not being partisan by saying it. But the people on the inside and their protectors in Congress are almost all Dems.

And some of these people are tied in with Obama’s campaign.

Sounds like “Astroturf” David Axelrove has been really busy behind his keyboard.

But BO stated that he would “fire’ anyone from his campaign that were part of vicious rumors against Palin. Okay, he really is Bush now. That’s exactly what he told the press when they asked him if her were in on the outing of Valerie Plame. Hillary was stumping for BO in Florida today, she looked very rough but she was definitely going after Palin. So you know she can do this if she wants but she’s wrong. She doesn’t owe BO anything and for her to go along with any smears, the same thing that was used against her, will come back to haunt her. I live in a rural area and today at the grocery store we were all talking about the cover of Us magazine and everyone was in a fighting spirit against this type of horrivle smear. We took an informal vote and 2 democrats were voting for McCain, 1 democrat voting for BO and 3 repubs for McCAIN. Clinton will not be respected if she contributes to Palin bashing.

They just can’t help themselves can they?!

They’re objectifying her as a sex object only here (shame on donnie d.) and they want to try and sell her as only that? A sex object in a box of cereal? They’re so fucking stupid! I don’t get it.

What a bunch of idiots if they think all we Americans see is a sex object in Governor Sara Palin. They have another thing coming.

Maybe we should objectify Barry Soetora put him in some 70’s style shorts and drools over me some Barack.

Has anyone found evidence to debunk the email that is EVERYWHERE smearing Palin from Wasilla resident “Anne Kilkenny”? It goes into great detail about Palin’s ruthless ambition, her behavior as Mayor, and then into the present. It is well-written and sounds credible, so it is having an impact. I’d like a response to it, because people keep sending it to me or telling me about it.

Comment by Brian Fellows | 2008-09-08 16:41:55

yes it comes from a very clever psycho who lives in Wasilla and drive people crazy. You should meet her in person – she doesn’t come off quite like her lying e-mails. Can you say crazy lady next door? Go to http://www.adn.com and search her name.

Anne Kilkenny now writes for Huffpo. That speaks volumes.
