You suspect wrong. I have been a Democrat since 1976. I left the party after it became apparent that the nomination process was rigged. I can live with a bad choice duly nominated, e.g., Kerry, Dukakis. What I cannot abide is an extremist choice shoved down my throat.

You can have the former Democratic Party and the plastic man they're running. He's all yours.

Wrong, Rico.

I've been a Dem all my life as has my husband. We registered as Indies on June 7th -- the day Hillary suspended and the day it was clear that the DNC had thrown fair reflection, common sense and decency out the window to rig this election for that empty suit, cheating, lying, incompetent fraud.

Country before Party.

I will not allow myself to throw everything I believe in out the window just because Obama calls himself a Democrat. Character is as character does. His words are meaningless -- his actions show he is not true Democrat and I will not vote for him.

I hope that clarifies the butter a little and I am sure many on this site feel as I do.

It is true that Palin started out by praising Hillary, but that did not play well to the republican crowd, and she had to cut it out. She doens't make those comments in front of republicans any more.

The problem, of course, is Senator Clinton's ongoing support for abortion rights. Palin's base won't abide that hand has hated both of the Clintons for quite a while now.

I think Clinton makes a fair point about the Titanic, although, I suspect most here would disagree with her assessment. This is another reason why I suspect that many here are no dems.

Elise,

I understand the rationale. In fact, I think most Americans vote on their perception of character, and not on policy issues. I'm a bit of a pragmatist on that one. For one, I'm not a believer in the integrity of any politician. John McCain is my guy, but he already broke with his own beliefs by voting for the torture bill late last year, and "making nice" with evangelicals and even putting one on the ticket to shore up that base.

Do I blame him? Nope. He's doing what he has to do to win. Do I like that he is compromising so many of his long-cherished beliefs? You bet.

If you think any of these folks' real character are on easy display and that they don't carefully craft the public's perception of them, you are a considerably more trusting than I.

On the other hand, is relatively easy to see policy positions and vote based on what laws they will advocate and what kinds of judges they might appoint. These policy decisions will outlast their own candidacy.

It is the policy that matters most to me. If better policies can be enacted by a bunch of creeps, then so be it.

Fred,

I'm not convinced. Her position in '64 isn't exactly a good indicator of her 2008 policies. The health care plan, alone, would lurch the country way to the left. I would concede that she would be somewhat conservative militarily (I see her as a hawk when it comes to such issues, despite primary campaign rhetoric), but her domestic policies (NAFTA, taxes, energy, education, health care, etc) are considerably to the left of her husband, even if they may be to the right of Obama.

Of course, that last bit is hard to prove, since we don't know much about Obama's political ideology.

JD,

Why would you hate to tell me that?

I agree that Limbaugh didn't want to help Hillary, and just wanted to string the contest along. He admitted as much when he encouraged all those dittoheads to vote for her. I, myself, considered voting Clinton for that reason. I ended up voting Paul because I'm more interested in reforming my own party than destroying the dems.

No, I never voted Obama. I think there was a typo there. I voted Paul in the primaries and will vote McCain in the fall. I meant to say that I *considered* voting Hillary in the primary.

As far as Limbaugh's intentions, I agree that he isn't a huge McCain fan, but he clearly would rather have McCain than either Clinton or Obama. There are others, like Ann Coulter, that prefer Clinton, though.

By the way, I also happen to agree with you that Clinton was more "electable" in the sense that she had a better chance against McCain than Obama. That was one other reason I didn't vote Clinton in the end.

As a moderate republican, I'm concerned about Palin being so socially conservative, but it hasn't swayed me to change my vote, yet. I really need to hear more from both her and McCain regarding the future of the party.

Decided I don't much care for Emanuel either -- struck me as weasel-y.

Someone else suggested Harold Ford but I don't know enough about him to comment in terms of his effectiveness in the position. This may sound completely bizarre and he'd probably never do it, but Wes Clark (need somebody like that with some integrity who backed HRC -- at least he had plenty before he came out lately to support the unity pony).

We need somebody in the Clinton Wing, not the Pelosi loony wing -- don't know who that would be.

Ps:

A primary reason I've been suggesting him is that it had been Dean vs Emanuel for quite awhile, at least in terms of DNC strategies.

Wow, guys. I thought Emanuel was for Hillary... up until June 3rd, that is.

I guess I'd better rethink this one.

Who do you guys propose to be the next chair of the DNC?

TexasDarlin, it's good to see your comment here. I have been asking about you. Perhaps one day you can write your own book about this campaign also (or collaborate with Ani)? I would be very interested in buying that and hearing what you have to say. It's hard to find anyone who can be heard above the noise anymore and it feels more like Alice in Wonderland everyday. Your site was down when I tried a few weeks ago.(?)

And you, texaslatina. Truly.

Apropos of nothing, I am still waiting for a journalist out there to grow some integrity and report fairly on this election. And stand up in a loud voice to declare "the emperor has no clothes." How about a Dem elder? Now there is something to pray for. Nothing else seems to be working. But I will not hold my breath.

The only ones who have been laying this out in a somewhat fair way have been Lou Dobbs and Greta Van Susteren.

The rest, koolaid sippers and corporate shills, who likewise wish to trash Hillary and miss no opportunity to drag he back into the fray.

Her courage and "testicular fortitude" is truly amazing. The one thing I have found to be happy about in this mess is that I think Hillary now truly knows the breadth, depth and strength of the 18,000,000 who supported her.

It is cold comfort, perhaps, but I think it truly touches her how many people were furious at this fraud and absolutely refuse even now, or in November for that matter, to fall into line.

Unfortunately, "Playing the Political Game" is one of the darker sides of our system. I, too, would like to see both Clintons say exactly how they feel about what has happened. However, they cannot do that without damaging themselves - everyone has not followed this travesty like this group has. It would look like sour grapes to many, and the Clintons would be blamed when BO loses. Thus the game.

President Clinton told ABC's Kate Snow that he would have a lot to say about the primary in January. That says to me 1) he does not think BO will win - otherwise he would have to continue to hold his fire in January. 2) He is still mad as hell, but knows the consequences of not toing the line......and playing the game of unity - even if it IS fake unity.

Thankfully Hillary has made it clear she draws the line on playing the attack dog on Sarah Palin.
Those Obama campaign idiot managers would have Hillary using the same tactics against Palin that the Obama people used against her if they could. I can't wait to read Bill's book on all of this. Another best seller!! And many more $Millions!
