Move On’s (And Others) Rumor Mongering – Updated AGAIN

A few days ago, I printed an email that Move On sent out with a number of “dangerous” positions that Gov. Palin allegedly holds or actions in which she engaged. A number of them were flat out wrong. It is exactly this kind of “Swiftboating” we all decried when it happened to Kerry. I am all for disagreeing with another’s political position, but it needs to be REALITY based, and not conjecture, rumor, or innuendo. Below are some of the main ones Move On mentioned, and the truth:

Buchanan: Move On claimed that Palin supported this “right-wing extremist” who is, they claim, a Nazi sympathizer. Palin supported Forbes in 2000, and worked on his campaign. She wore a Buchanan button when Buchanan came to visit as a sign of respect. For what it’s worth, this “right wing extremist” is supporting OBAMA. (HERE’S the UPDATE: There are some who are debating the validity of this claim. After Obama’s speech, Buchanan said this:

I stand with Obama(emphasis mine)! It was a genuinely outstanding speech, it was magnificent. I saw Cuomo’s speech, I saw Kennedy in ‘80, I even saw Douglas MacArthur, I saw MLK; this is the greatest convention speech and probably the most important because unlike Cuomo and the others, this was an acceptance speech, this came out of the heart of America, and he went right at the heart of America. This wasn’t a liberal speech at all. This is a deeply, deeply centrist speech. It had wit, it had humor, and when he used the needle on McCain, he stuck it into McCain and it was funny. It was Kennedy’s speech in ‘80. I laughed with Kennedy when he was needling Ronald Reagan.”

Make of it what you will. He may be making positive remarks about Sarah Palin now, but this is what he said right after Obama’s speech.

And Charles Martin, who has been debunking Palin rumors left and right (H/T to Medusa!), has this at #24:

No, Buchanan doesn’t support her now; in fact he’s supporting Obama. (Buchanan did think her speech was amazing, but then so do 80 percent of the people who saw it.) Or maybe not. Buchanan sure doesn’t like McCain though.

Creationism: she does not want to teach creationism in school. She said if it comes up in a classroom discussion, then people should be able to discuss it.

Abortion: Palin believes in birth control as a way to prevent unwanted pregnancies. And she believes in abortion for the sake of the mother’s life.

Just for comparison, how many of you are aware that Senate Majority Leader, Harry Reid, is anti-choice? He is the most powerful Democrat in Congress. There are a NUMBER of anti-choice Democrats in Congress. To attack Palin on this one point repeatedly is hypocritical when so many Dems hold a similar, and in some cases, even MORE conservative positions. The bottom line is, a Pres. or VP, cannot take away a law. It is one that has been upheld repeatedly by the Supreme Court.

Then there’s Sen. Bob Casey of PA, a HUGE supporter of Barack Obama’s. We’ve heard all about him and his pro-life stance.

Environment: she does acknowledge that we need to make changes in energy, and has said clearly that we need to look into geothermal and wind energies. As far as the wolves go, and I say this as someone who has LONG been a member of “Defenders of Wildlife,” she supports culling the packs from the air because they kill so many caribou and moose, which people need to be able to hunt to survive.

Move On also slams Governor Palin for only being a governor of Alaska for 1.5 months. She was inaugurated in December, 2006. Since that time, and it is more like 1.75 years, Move On, she has enacted a number of reforms, as well as run a state the NY Times said is harder to govern than other states in the Continental US:

That said, by other measures, Alaska is harder to govern than a smaller, more settled realm in the Lower 48. With vast distances, large numbers of indigenous peoples and a narrowly based extraction economy — with a handful of giant multinational oil corporations dominating the game — some economists say a country like Nigeria might be an apter comparison.

“Alaska really is a colonial place,” said Stephen Haycox, a professor of history at the University of Alaska, Anchorage. “One third of the economic base is oil; another third is federal spending. The economy is extremely narrow and highly dependent. It’s not to say that Alaska is a beggar state, but it certainly is true that Alaska is dependent on decisions made outside it, and over which Alaskans don’t have great control.”

Add to that a sense that Alaskan governors are more accessible to their people:

Overlaid across all of that is a distinctly informal Alaskan style. At the annual governor’s picnic, usually held in July, the governor is expected to turn the brats and burgers on the grill — something Ms. Palin has done with gusto — with cabinet members in aprons rounding out the kitchen staff.

The article continues with information about Alaska I sure didn’t know, and which is important to consider when belittling Palin’s experience:

Alaska also came of political age recently, which has meant two crucial things to Ms. Palin’s rise and experience as governor.

First, the State Constitution concentrates power in the governor’s office more thoroughly than in almost any other state — a legacy of the late 1950s, historians say, when statehood and a simultaneous trend all over the country toward elevating executive authority coincided.

Alaskan governors can edit legislation and their vetoes are tougher for lawmakers to overcome. In the numerical scale of power devised by Thad Beyle, a political scientist at the University of North Carolina, only Massachusetts’ governor has a mightier tool kit.

Second, inch-deep history has meant that the leading lights of statehood are not mere names in history books but are in many cases still around and even still in power, like Senator Ted Stevens and Representative Don Young, both Republicans with decades under their belts in Washington. That old guard is still revered by some Alaskans, but it is disdained by others who have been on the lookout for fresh Republican faces.

It is in that densely layered Alaskan mix that Ms. Palin rose, governed and must be understood, academics and people in both parties say — not as merely a governor, or a woman, but as an Alaskan.

“The frontier mentality, whether myth or not, is still alive,” said Donald Linky, director of the Program on the Governor, at the Eagleton Institute of Politics at Rutgers University.

Huh. Apparently being the Governor of Alaska actually counts for something after all!

And here’s a good one. This just goes to show what strange bedfellows Politics makes. It turns out that the reports of Gov. Palin moving to ban a bunch of books is bogus – yet another rumor concocted to demean her. We cannot stoop to these kinds of Swiftboat levels. So, I am being FORCED to use sources like Michelle Malkin. What the hell is the world coming to?!? But, even a broken clock is right twice a day. Ahem. Ms. Malkin had this article yesterday (and honestly, she has been debunking a lot of Palin smears, so it is worth a trip to her site to see what else is being said):

The Bogus Sarah Palin Banned Books List (Michelle Malkin debunks yet another Palin smear), MichelleMalkin.com

Palin Derangement Syndrome strikes again. This time it’s hysterical librarians and their readers on the Internet disseminating a bogus list of books Gov. Sarah Palin supposedly banned in 1996. Looks like some of these library people failed reading comprehension. Take a look at the list below and you’ll find books Gov. Palin supposedly tried to ban…that hadn’t even been published yet. Example: The Harry Potter books, the first of which wasn’t published until 1998.

The smear merchants who continue to circulate the list also failed to do a simple Google search, which would have showed them that the bogus Sarah Palin Banned Book List is almost an exact copy-and-paste reproduction of a generic list of “Books Banned at One Time or Another in the United States” that has been floating around the Internet for years. STACLU notes that the official Obama campaign website is also perpetuating the fraud. And it’s spread to craigslist, where some unhinged user is posting images likening Palin to Hitler. Here it is again.

The person who first spread the Palin smear is identified as “Andrew Aucoin,” a commenter on the blog of librarian Jessamyn West. West has done the right thing in keeping the bogus comment up and pointing out in her main post that “there appears to be no truth to the claim made by the commenter, and no further documentation or support for this has turned up.”

It’s a fake. Not true. Total B.S. A lie.

If it gets sent to you by a moonbat friend or family member, set ‘em all straight. Fight the smears. They’ve only just begun.

The bogus Sarah Palin Banned Books List(can be found) HERE.

From the Anchorage Daily News story that inflamed P.D.S.:
Back in 1996, when she first became mayor, Sarah Palin asked the city librarian if she would be all right with censoring library books should she be asked to do so.
According to news coverage at the time, the librarian said she would definitely not be all right with it. A few months later, the librarian, Mary Ellen Emmons, got a letter from Palin telling her she was going to be fired. The censorship issue was not mentioned as a reason for the firing. The letter just said the new mayor felt Emmons didn’t fully support her and had to go.

Emmons had been city librarian for seven years and was well liked. After a wave of public support for her, Palin relented and let Emmons keep her job.

It all happened 12 years ago and the controversy long ago disappeared into musty files. Until this week. Under intense national scrutiny, the issue has returned to dog her. It has been mentioned in news stories in Time Magazine and The New York Times and is spreading like a virus through the blogosphere.

The stories are all suggestive, but facts are hard to come by. Did Palin actually ban books at the Wasilla Public Library?

…Were any books censored banned? June Pinell-Stephens, chairwoman of the Alaska Library Association’s Intellectual Freedom Committee since 1984, checked her files Wednesday and came up empty-handed.

Pinell-Stephens also had no record of any phone conversations with Emmons about the issue back then. Emmons was president of the Alaska Library Association at the time.

Amazing the rumors that are coming out, and the lengths to which organizations will go to fabricate stories about Governor Palin. There seems to be no care for the damage these falsehoods will do the organizations’ own reputation in their haste to discredit this woman. It is remarkable. And remarkably stupid. It makes people like me question how in the world I was ever even a MEMBER of Move On. It lowers the level of discourse to ducking mud slinging all around. We can do better than that. I’d like to think we are BETTER than that. So, come out with the facts – let’s take a look, form our opinions, and have some honest discussion, not this constant smearing with any crackpot rumor that comes down the pike. Just a thought.

Another one of those smears to try and hook those of us who are environmentalists. ALL of the rumors are hooks, I guess….

The Hunt for Sarah October
City slickers invade Wasilla

September 9, 2008
Democrats understand Sarah Palin is a formidable political force who has upset the Obama victory plan. The latest Washington Post/ABC Poll shows John McCain taking a 12-point lead over Barack Obama among white women, a reversal of Mr. Obama’s eight-point lead last month.

It’s no surprise, then, that Democrats have airdropped a mini-army of 30 lawyers, investigators and opposition researchers into Anchorage, the state capital Juneau and Mrs. Palin’s hometown of Wasilla to dig into her record and background. My sources report the first wave arrived in Anchorage less than 24 hours after John McCain selected her on August 29.
The main area of interest to the Democratic SWAT team is Mrs. Palin’s dismissal in July of her public safety commissioner. Mrs. Palin says he was fired for cause. Her critics claim he was fired because he wouldn’t bend to pressure to get rid of a state trooper, Mike Wooten, who had been involved in a bitter divorce battle with Mrs. Palin’s sister. Mr. Wooten is certainly a colorful character. He served a five-day suspension after the Palin family filed a complaint against him alleging he had threatened Mrs. Palin’s father. They also accused him of using a Taser on his 10-year-old stepson, drinking in his patrol car and illegally shooting a moose.
Mrs. Palin will return to Alaska for the first time in nearly two weeks on Wednesday night, when she is scheduled to arrive in Fairbanks. Local Republicans will hold a “Welcome Home” rally for her. You can bet some of the Democratic opposition research contingent will be in the audience taking notes. They’ll be the ones arriving in rental cars and wearing fancy dress shoes from back east.

Yes of course all the rumors about Obama are true but the ones about Palin are false and debunked. Bunch of right wing hacks.

Do your homework people, McCain is worse than any Democrat. Palin is a liar and totally unqualified. Eveyone who claims to have been a Hillary supporter and now says they will vote for McCain because Obama is the devil, are a bunch of liars. Period. Hillary had my support and still does. You will all get what you deserve if McCain wins and no more whining for you.

Michelle Malkin? This is the woman who says internment camps were the right thing to do? This is who you use as a source? These people are disgusting.

There is no debunking Pailin. There are enough tapes to show words from her own mouth. She is no woman I would ever look up to or respect. She is no Hillary. She ought to be run out of town on a rail.

I suppose the earmarks she got for her state go very well with the platform now of no earmarks. Do you realize how contradictory every word she utters is? She is just another politican along the lines of Marcia Blackburn. Ugly, dirty politics from two disgusting woman. It makes me sick.

Yes, us dems are loons alright. Bush and all of his ilk are what we want runing this country. No Way, No How, No McCain. No Palin. I say Hillary has it right.

According to Snopes.Com, Princeton was requested to put a ‘restriction’ on distribution of any copies of the thesis of Michelle Obama (a/k/a/ Michelle LaVaughn Robinson) saying it could not be made available until November 5, 2008, but when it was published on a political website they decided they would lift the restriction.

your pro-choice issue is right on point. Dems don’t really defend pro-choice issues and that is why our rights have been dwindling. The only use it as a campaign slgen. Half these wind bags are pro-life and did nothing to defend against the bush supreme court minations. And look how Biden sold Anita Hill and all American women down the river during the Clarence Thomas confirmation hearings.

Rev. Amy – thanks for all the hard work and time put into bringing us the facts.

I see Michelle Malkin’s column is being highlighted. She has very good points, but I’m just not a fan. I haven’t found one Republican that doesn’t like her. I must be in the minority because she annoys me for whatever reason.

Oh! Amy:

And remarkably stupid. It makes people like me question how in the world I was ever even a MEMBER of Move On.

The organization’s main purpose or starting was probably something that attracted you. Also, I’m sure many members of MoveOn believe they’re helping to fight off “right wing smears”.

However, there is a line between the truth and making up stories. I cannot see you participating in that type of behavior. After reading your articles these past few months, I don’t think you could stomach lying to advance your point.

Just my thought.

I am certainly not a republican but I like her. She definitely has a slant to her reporting but I haven’t found her to be a liar or coward. She stakes out her positions and defends them well. She is an excellent writer. Don’t agree with her on the immigration issue at all but she does have some valid points there as well.

You can’t write two more works of fiction to compensate for your total lack of living history.

But it wont change the fact that you never have nor ever will live up to the fictional mythology that you created to promote your self interest in your two books, “Dreams of my Future” and “The Audacity of Hype.”

Its been discovered that your campaign is publishing fake websites promoting the idea that there is a grass roots opinion out there that Jesus was a community organizer and Pontius Pilate a Governor, and your then you send your ignorant cow of a partisan hack on “The Race to the White House” to repeat that claim as a way to smear Governor Sarah Palin as Pontius Pilate?

What are your surrogates trying to say for you Senator? End please spare us the Non Mea Culpa as you pass the Culpa to those cute supporters of yours that are enthusiastic and overzealous wink wink.

We all know who the freaks Get their marching orders from!

How exactly is Public Opinion formed on the net?
Yes it really IS an O-BOT!

http://minx.cc/?post=272887

No Way! David Axelrod’s Other Public-Relations Business Makes Extensive Use of “Astroturfing” to Dishonestly Shape Public Opinion
—Ace

“Astroturfing” is the practice of creating a false impression of widespread public support through the creation of dummy websites and organizations which are merely parroting their corporate parent’s line (unbeknownst to the reader, who thinks he’s reading an “independent take”), and of course spreading memes on the internet through sockpuppet commenters.

As Treacher noted, that line Kos got from “a reader” (unnamed), that “Jesus was a community organizer, Pontius Pilate was a governor” sure did rocket through the interwebs quickly. Problem with the theory of it spreading rapidly by real, organic transmission? It’s fucking laugh out loud stupid!

And of course there may be a couple of big bloggers representing themselves as the sort of people who, say, struggle to see the truth in front of their noses, who just might be benefiting from Axelrod’s astroturf campaigning.

Seems kind of interesting. Interesting story, interesting technique, a lot of dishonesty to give it some juice… an important story about the inner workings of a major political campaign for president.

Therefore, I am sure I speak for everyone when I say I expect the media to get right on this.

http://jimtreacher.com/archives/001554.html

Mother, May I Sleep with Treacher?
Look at all these rumors, runnin’ me every day

Just Asking Questions

I’ve been trying to find out more about Obama’s chief campaign adviser David Axelrod. No particular reason; I’ve just seen him on some of these talking-heads shows and he seems like an awesome guy. And after about 20 seconds with Google, I found this interesting tidbit from the March ‘08 issue of Business Week. It’s about how Axelrod juggles his work for AKP&D Message & Media, his Chicago-based political consultancy business, with his work for another PR company he runs:

From the same River North address, Axelrod operates a second business, ASK Public Strategies, that discreetly plots strategy and advertising campaigns for corporate clients to tilt public opinion their way. He and his partners consider virtually everything about ASK to be top secret, from its client roster and revenue to even the number of its employees. But customers and public records confirm that it has quarterbacked campaigns for the Chicago Children’s Museum, ComEd, Cablevision, and AT&T.

ASK’s predilection for operating in the shadows shows up in its work. On behalf of ComEd and Comcast, the firm helped set up front organizations that were listed as sponsors of public-issue ads. Industry insiders call such practices “Astroturfing,” a reference to manufacturing grassroots support. Alderman Brendan Reilly of the 42nd Ward, who has been battling the Children’s Museum’s relocation plans, describes ASK as “the gold standard in Astroturf organizing. This is an emerging industry, and ASK has made a name for itself in shaping public opinion and manufacturing public support.”

Weird, huh?

O’brien and her ilk should be canned. To my knowledge, she and CNN have neither offered a retraction nor an apology. Olbermann down. Mathews down. Who’s next? Keep this shit up, loony leftists, and we’ll be up by 20% in national polls come next week.

Just like it used to be with Fox I think you seriously have to want to drink the coolaid to watch CNN or MSNBC now. Fox is alright for the moment but they could revert back at any time. My 90 year old grandfather and grandmother have CNN on 24/7. They threatened to cut me and my mother out of their will if we vote for McCain even though my mother is a relious conservative (pentecostal). It doesn’t make any sense to watch something that is pure propaganda. It is so bad they were actually lampooning McCain for the way he walked and their perception that he is old and senile. I really pissed them off when I mentioned some of Obama’s gaffes. Of course, they hadn’t ever heard of them. Just more deception brought to you by the MSM.

Hey Amy,
Don’t mess with FACTS, these movers and shakers would rather ignore them!
When they face up to the FACT that the Republicans played them like a pin-ball machine, we will have the last laugh!
They really thought the Republicans were “terrified” of running against Barky!
HA!HA!

Comment by csuzeq | 2008-09-09 12:10:45

Dems would tell me that and I would just laugh. They would say, “Well the republicans are saying they want Clinton and they can beat her, but they won’t be able to beat Obama.” I’d say, “well, duh, if you are afraid of someone, do you really think you should tell the competition that? Wouldn’t you think they’d tell you the opposite? And watch the democrats be stupid enough to buy it!” Yep. They did. There are 2 parties in America, the rethuglicans and the dumbocrats. One is smart and knows how to win, the other is the democratic party. The democrats should like that Palin promises to be their friend in the White House, she will take care of folks like them who have special needs (it turns out alot of dems are mentally challenged).

Awesome Sassy!

I’m in total agreement and have been saying the same since last winter. Did they really think that Obama would have a snowball’s chance in Hell?

Oh yeah, they tried to convince us by guilt tripping us and insulting us with racism smears.

sounds to me like Sarah could readily step right in as CIC if something were to happen to McCain.

I figured the wolf hunting had something to do w them eating other animals that Alaskans hunt for food.

The bridge to nowhere thing I figured was explainable too and it was. She supported it initially and then when she found out more about it said no. Nuff said…

She took on the oil companies in her state and brought ethics reform in and cleaned the state up. How many men would have the balls and character to do that let alone a woman?

Thing is, this smear campaign won’t work.

Yes, I can see more and more why the pea brain pod bots are terrified right out of their pampers. They must be filling them up pretty quick these days. Haven’t seen many around here either lately.

It seems the Dems have their own swiftboat group — Brave New Pac. It was disgusting when Kerry’s military service was attacked and it is equally disgusting that McCain’s service is being attacked. What a bunch of hypocrites.

Comment by Palin4Prez | 2008-09-09 08:53:24

I suggest that to anyone stupid and foolhardy enough to try and discredit JM’s military record (most of which is documented and viedographed by the enemy and news at the time) rethink engaging in political discourse unril A) They grow the fuck up and B) They willingly accept being thrown into a dank, foreign prison with broken limbs for a period no less than 5 years.

option B will gladly get my respect and only after that will I be open to listening.:-)

Comment by Irish1139 | 2008-09-09 09:35:43

What an asshole that man is. Does he really think John McCain is the same man that was in that POW cell all those years ago. He has already told how that period of his life changed him and how his country saved him.

The man must be jealous of the success of John McCain. What other reason would another POW denigrate a man like McCain.

Comment by Rev. Wright, can you fix my garlic nose? | 2008-09-09 09:57:22

McCain has endured these types of attacks before, most recently during his last presidential run.

I watched his speech at the Republican convention. The POW who inhabited John’s adjoining cell was present as McCain told the story of when he broke under extreme duress. The eyes of neighbor POW grew misty. One can only imagine his thoughts: when they were residents of a dirt cell in the Hanoi Hilton, could either one of them have imagined the moment when John would be accepting the nomination to run for POTUS?

My dad’s older brother went off to WWII and never returned. He was MIA. My grandparents lived the rest of their long lives hoping and waiting for the call that would notify them of the whereabouts of their son. It never came.

To diminish the service of any POW is a direct assault on the horrible experience that the POW suffered, as well as that of the soldier’s loved ones. Reprehensible, to say the least.

Comment by stodghie | 2008-09-09 11:02:51

well yes his neighbor in the hanoi hilton was there. i noticed that mccain certainly talked about it and his bio covered his viet nam ordeal, but it wasn’t made into the centerpiece of the convention like kerry did. the repubs used that against him.

Comment by FembotsForObama | 2008-09-09 15:23:50

I thought the most compelling thing McCain said during his acceptance speech was why he was instrumental in getting good relations with Vietnam back — he realized that rising above the anger and allowing a place for healing would make both of our countries better!

That’s what led to the tears in my eyes.

Real transcendence anyone? This blew Obama’s fake uniting theme out of the water.

Anyway, attacking McCain’s war record is just plain stupid. Why do the Dems so insist on following bad tactical maneuvers?

Comment by csuzeq | 2008-09-09 12:15:09

When Wesly Clark was attacking McCain as a hero, I was thoroughly disgusted. I wanted to strangle that man, Obama and any democrat I came across for not speaking against it. Had I still been a dem and supporting Obama, that alone may have changed my mind or made me stay home on election day. They had better not go there. I know of no one who thinks that is acceptable. I would not support McCain if he were to attack Obama’s race (if we knew what exactly it was!?). Certain attacks just cross a line that is not to be crossed and the people will not tolerate that crap!

Comment by gregoryp | 2008-09-09 09:33:22

I am not defending the swift boaters because they were/still are repugnant humans; however, Kerry opened himself up to that kind of attack because of his actions testifying in front of Congress when he got back from service. He raked his fellow soldiers over the coals pretty damned good. You know the cliche’, payback is a bitch. It may not be right but those guys felt betrayed by Kerry. McCain on the other hand has always pledged his unwavering support for all veterans, all military personnel, and pretty much for everyone in this country. McCain is a positive role model. Always has been. Always will be.

Comment by stodghie | 2008-09-09 11:05:06

i understand kerry’s anger and even the tossing of the medals. many of the viet nam soldiers felt betrayed by the policies of the us government and having their hands tied behind them and told to win the war.

Yes, in a way McCain should be grateful for that experience because it prepared him for this excursion into the blood sport known as a presidential election.

To piggyback on my above post re: POW attacks -

If anyone reading gets the chance, you should attend a Rolling Thunder event on Memorial Day. The roll call of the soldiers still missing is truly a moving experience.

Barky’s boys are playing with fire on this front.

Comment by deke | 2008-09-09 10:58:41

Perry so true. I was a democrat because it was not the party of smears, lies and innuendos but this election cycle has changed things. We have become everything we hated about republicans and no longer stand for anything but obtaining power. It was very telling when majority whip Steny Hoyer said after the 2006 elections it was time for the democrats to reap the spoils of being in the majority. I can’t support a candidate who has no core beliefs other than self promotion. There are still alot of good democrats out there but I no longer can just blindly support a democratic candidate. The republicans nominate a person who a large portion of the members don’t like but he won fair and square, nobody tried to manipulate the results of the primary and we have the democrats acting like the republicans in florida in 2000. What has become of our country.

WASHINGTON — Senator Joseph R. Biden Jr., the Democratic nominee for vice president, departed Sunday from party doctrine on abortion rights, declaring that as a Catholic, he believes life begins at conception.

While Mr. Biden’s views may not be new to Democrats in his circle, his comments, in an interview on “Meet the Press” on NBC

And the Catholic Church is against any form of contraceptive (other than abstinence of course, Ted Kennedy being the poster child for that idea).

Since the pill can theoretically abort a fertilized ovum, access to the Pill is less guaranteed under Biden than Palin (who wholeheartedly believes in contraceptives)

But someone should get it through 0bama’s thick narcissistic skull that he’s running against McCain.

Hey, Rep. Chick – I know – that’s why I couldn’t believe I was actually quoting her. But in this case, and in some other instances in which she is dispelling rumors, she’s been okay (and it isn’t like I read her all the time – it’s kind of a fluke that I found this piece at all).

And thank you – you are quite right that I will not “go along to get along,” especially when it is a question of integrity/ethics. Move On endorsed Obama early on, with only 10% of its membership responding. Even then, the numbers were inflated because of Obama people stuffing the ballot box. It DID stand for something good early on, but it has gone way over the edge into “Kookdom.” The problem is, though, that so many people think of it how it was, and do not see it for what it IS. I got that “Dangerous” email from at least three people. I was mighty surprised at two of them. So, you just never know.

Comment by Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy | 2008-09-09 09:29:04

Don’t know why this ended up way down here, but oh well – I needed to respond to you, MIMI, anyway.

Buchanan: ——————————————————————————–

BUCHANAN: “I stand with Obama! I laughed with Kennedy when he was needling Ronald Reagan.” http://clipmarks.com/clipmark/C92514F2-4302-40E0-8F4C-E21D4D40E8FD/

You’re welcome.

Btw, Larry Johnson JUST wrote an article on why the RNC and 527s are holding off. Perhaps you should read it – it answers your questions.

Rev Amy,

I here ya. For the first time in my life, I am actually turning to other news sources than my usual ones to get some type of balance. It originally started when I was trying to find reasons to campaign for Obama after Edwards dropped out of the WI primary. And my research led me to many problems with Obama; the privatization of public housing fiasco but one.

I also became very disturbed by his supporters’ comments that he is the Black messiah, and a sort of reincarnation of (a black) Jesus, if not Jesus himself. Am very disturbed by this use of “Jesus was a community organizer…” crap, because they are trying to thwart the rational justification of Jesus we saw in “Jesus Christ Superstar.” Jesus would never have been a politician. It is perverse for me that some would actually try to say he was. Wasn’t that the problem with the Pharisees so aptly pointed out in said movie, and truly the problem in the Bible that they had become corrupt.

And then I am really really angered by the atheist/agnostic liberals who support him. Do we really want a POTUS who some people believe is descended from the Heavens? Who wants to expand the faith-based initiatives program? Which as far as I’m concerned, it is the bigger problem for churches when the government can dictate their policy, which is what receiving federal funds opens the door for no matter how good intentioned the idea is.

No it reinforces McCain’s judgment. The only reason they can bring troops home is because the surge worked and the cooperative arrangement with tribal leaders against Al Queda has reduced the violence to the point where partial withdrawal is possible. They are only removing 10,000 soldiers I think right? Approx. 130,000 remain.

What worries me is that we have been on the defensive now since the end of the convention. Beating back one rumor after another. So far we have been succesful, but I have a football analogy for you …

You have a great defense and you are shutting the other team down in the first half holding them to 1-2 yard runs, but your offense is non existent and your defense is on the field the whole time. During the 3rd quarter your defense is still doing good, but they cant get off the field and the runs are starting to become 3-4 yard runs, and then in the 4th quarter your defense is totally exhausted and the other team is getting 20 yard runs every other play.

We need to get the defense off the field, and give them a rest. We need to go on offense with Rezko, Ayers, Rev. Wright, Birth Certificate/Citzenship, Michelle Obamas previous comments, thesis etc.

It is time that Obama has to start answering some questions, and wasting his time rebuking rumors. If the McCain campaign or the 527’s dont start putting this stuff out there, then the MSM will never do it on their own, they have proven that over the last 20 months.

Comment by wodiej | 2008-09-09 09:21:16

I am sure the Republicans have a strategy that will unfold in the coming weeks. They want to make sure what they do has the greatest effect which would be the closer to the GE the better. The more the Dem’s attack the Republicans and their made up fairy tales are revealed, the more free publicity for McCain and Palin and the worse the Dem’s look. They are showing their desperation.

Comment by Lark | 2008-09-09 10:39:54

Here is the way is going to go. He’ll use the discredit Hillary tactic. At the debate, once McCain says he is for school vouchers, then Obama will say he is also for school vouchers. Mark my words.

Comment by FembotsForObama | 2008-09-09 15:54:13

He’s been for vouchers, saying that what they are doing in WI is a good thing. The main proponent of school vouchers was the milwaukee Superintendent Howard Fuller, a black man. It is an issue that is not just divided on race lines, as some would like America to believe.

I’ve been in an email argument with someone in LA, a writer, who sent me the list of banned books this week. When I sent him the link to the site with the “Books Banned at One Time or Another in the United States,” he wrote back: “I don’t see what difference the list makes–what matters is that she wants to ban books.”
Huh? I replied with the same basic argument you made above, and he said he respects Time Magazine (which repeated the book banning smear), and didn’t think people believe everything they receive in an email without further investigation. (He clearly underestimates the effect of propaganda.) Then, he argues that Obama has been thoroughly vetted (and uses Wright as an example, the ONLY example), and that they are “cloistering” Sarah. It’s been ONE WEEK!?

I realized again that there is no talking to an Obot. It’s a very strange form of tunnel vision that is, I’m afraid, incurable with logic and reason.

Comment by Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy | 2008-09-09 09:34:54

Oh my. How to explain the wanting to ban books BEFORE THEY WERE PUBLISHED??? Wow, that Palin must be mighty powerful to know Harry Potter was going to come out two years in the FUTURE!!

And yes, you are right – bottom line, no arguing with them, or using “facts.” Like UBM above assuming because something hasn’t come out that it doesn’t exist. Who cares abt facts? Not the DNC and Obama suporters, I think that has been made abundantly clear this season. Heck, here at this post!

Comment by UBM | 2008-09-09 13:26:19

Like UBM above assuming because something hasn’t come out that it doesn’t exist.

The question, Miss Amy, is why you assume it does exist? What REALITY is that based upon?

Until it comes out, it’s just “conjecture, rumor, or innuendo”… right? See my point? You have to, because I am indisputably correct.

As you yourself wrote, Miss Amy: “I am all for disagreeing with another’s political position, but it needs to be REALITY based, and not conjecture, rumor, or innuendo.”

Hence, your arguments are confused and not worth taking seriously.

Comment by Darryl | 2008-09-09 13:28:39

I think the point of the article is that Buchannan will say anything to be the center of attention depending on wear he is at. This is whats called a two face.

fif,

I live in the inner city of Milwaukee, and for the first time in my life, I’m seeing McCain/Palin signs everywhere. When I’ve tried to use this as a rebuttal for people don’t want Obama because they are racist, I am actually dumbfounded. And when in the poorer areas that are just blocks away, I don’t see Obama signs. But they are plastered all over in the richer areas where the college students and academics live.

Hey Reverend Amy, maybe we should just pretend to be shocked by all of these bullshit accusations. Even Bill O’Reilly said last night that every one of these smears gains John McCain another vote. He may be on to something. My mother is 76 years old, and has never voted for a Republican in her life. When I joked a week or so ago about putting a McCain bumper sticker on my car, she promptly informed me that she wouldn’t be riding in it if I did. She told me last night that she is seriously considering voting for McCain/Palin. When I asked her what had changed, she said that she was disgusted by the way that both Hillary and Palin had been treated by the media and the Obama campaign. She has said all along that the only way she would vote for Obama is if he had the good sense to put Hillary on the ticket, because she didn’t want to vote against her. Obama didn’t, but she has been impressed with Palin, and with McCain for choosing her.

Rec. Amy, thanks for this post. Maybe it can get me out of the ridiculous charges about Palin on the Bridge to Nowhere

“She was for it before she was against it”

I laughed like hell when I heard the Obamaphiles start that chorus.

How about this:
Obama Re: FISA: He was against it before he was for it

Obama Re: Private funding for his campaign: He was against it before he was for it

Obama Re: putting a Washington Insider on his ticket: He was against it before he was for it

Obama Re: Saying anything to get elected: He was against it before he was for it

Obama Re: Hillary Clinton’s Platform: He was against it before he was for it

Obama Re: ‘Karl Rove Style Campaigning’: He was against it before he was for it

Obama Re: the success of the Troop Surge: He was against it before he was for it

Obama Re: Funding the Iraq war: He was against it before he was for it

I could go on, but I have to get to work.

Re: Earmarks, Obama asked for 890 million dollars in earmarks, as opposed to Palin’s less than 150 million.

He criticizes and demonizes Palin’s appeal to Evangelical Christians, while 95 percent of African Americans voted for him simply because of his skin color.

Yet, the Evangelical Community is characterized as a ’special interest group’, and the African American Community’s support is called ‘energized voters.

I’m not even going to mention the difference in ideology between the Evangelical Church and Black Liberation Theology

Comment by Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy | 2008-09-09 09:39:26

And you forgot that he voted TWICE for the “bridge to Nowhere” and now he is criticizing Palin for it? Even Ted Stevens said Palin has consistently been resistant to the whole bridge thing. BUt again – why let facts influence one’s opinion??

FF: The thing abt Malkin is the PRIMARY point she made was not something SHE created. It came from another source. And that does not negaet that it exists, that the rumors are mere smear attempts, and that books that had not yet been printed could possibly be banned. Perhaps the logic is escaping you.

I am not a professional strategist, but in my humble opinion, what better time to hit Obama with his anti-american church, anti-american associations, and anti-american wife, then around 9/11 ????

Comment by JM08 | 2008-09-09 09:47:28

Hillary is Goddess -

There are two sides to that arguement. Say if a woman gets pregneant by her boyfriend or husband just because they were not careful using protection.

Who gives that woman a right to kill her baby, just because it would be inconvient for her to have it ?

If you believe life begins at conception, then that baby is a human being with full rights. I mean a mother just cannot kill a baby after it is born, just because she decided she doesnt want it anymore …

My point is abortion is a complicated issue, and if you really want to nit pick the issue, then yeah you can make Sarah Palin look like a radical for not wanting abortions even in the case of rape, but you can also make “mainstream” abortions look like murder.

The bottom line is whatever Palin thinks on a personal level is not going to effect Roe v. Wade. It simply just cant be overturned, because she wants it to be.

I dont think Palins opinion on abortion makes her a bad person. It is just her personal belief. Now Obamas support of infantcide, I find much more troubling, because that is really kind of a evil position to take, even by 3rd world standards.

But if you are going to use that as a excuse to vote for Obama, then I think you were going to vote for Obama all along regardless of anything, so I dont see it as any major loss that you feel that way.

My suggestion would to be to go on Kos with the rest of the Hillary haters, your feeling should get alot of traction there.

Good post, Rev.Amy. There is just no rest when it comes to stopping rumors. First, our minds can only assimilate so much. Second, people are notoriously inaccurate witnesses, that is, they don’t remember accurately. Third, people confabulate like crazy–this is making up a plausible story to fill in memory gaps–it is not a moral failing but a “jellyware” failing of our brains. So far this is innocent corruption of the truth, but it is enough to make it hard to evaluate discourse reliably.

Now add to that deliberate lies and slants and it is no longer a slow but steady drift away from truth, but a quick jerk. Or a big hole in the Truth boat. And there is no such thing as a hole in your end of the boat that doesn’t affect me in my end of the boat. It behooves everyone to work constantly to investigate and correct what we hear.

Palin is a right-wing wacko. And no former Hillary supporter could possibly vote for her as her views are diametrically opposed to Hillary’s.

To say otherwise is the lie.

From Hillary’s blog

“We should all be proud of Governor Sarah Palin’s historic nomination, and I congratulate her and Senator McCain. While their policies would take America in the wrong direction, Governor Palin will add an important new voice to the debate.”

The key statement here is wrong direction.

And this site is a total wrong direction site. Let’s bring back David Koresh from the dead while we are about it — he and Palin could be best buds.

I guess if you are comming from the extreme left, she might be right-wing but it is a stretch for anyone to suggest she is a ‘wacko’. She is clearly very level-headed, sensible, and a good executive. Her views are much in line with a majority of Americans. Hysteria about her being a ‘right-wing wacko’ is hillarious. And saying that Clinton supports this conclusion with her comment that Palin would take the country in the ‘wrong direction’ is ludicrous. Clinton does not, I am confident, think Palin is a ‘right-wing wacko’!

Comment by Lark | 2008-09-09 10:09:36

and now close your eyes until Nov 5th.

First McCain has not prescribe anything different from what Barack is saying. Hillary is not running. Barack is the one that makes prescriptions for the economy, for foreign policy, etc. Barack knows everything. What McCain is saying is that he will veto pork-barrel spending; all of it. Other than that, McCain is not saying he knows everything. He says he will work with anyone Democrat, Hillary, Republican, Lieberman, Independents.

So, the only one that could be going in the wrong direction is Obama. Why? Because he knows. McCain cannot go in the wrong direction. Why? Because he still does not know what direction to take. He will wait until the time comes to set the direction.

Si o No?

Hillary never said that Palin is a right-wing wacko!

If you’ve ever met a real right wing wacko, you would realize that they don’t even get into a man’s field, like politics or business!

And yes Hillary did say that about them taking us in the wrong direction, but I believe that Hillary is tied to the party, which is becoming more dominated by neo-progressives and George Soros. She more importantly is responsible to her current senator status and her constitutents, and cannot rock the boat of her standing in her own party if she hopes to get anything for her state during an Obama term. The threats of loss of money and support if you do not support Obama is very real, and although it represents somewhat of the nature of politics, the Soros financed Obama campaign is trying to take it one step further, wherein THEY decide who is eligible to run for any office. Do you really want to go back to the 1960s?

Anyway, I personally believe that the direction that the Dem Party is headed in is more of a wrong direction than anyone could anticipate. It is not just “petty politics” as some would like for us to believe. It is about external forces taking over American government and our nation’s sovereignty, something that was also occurring in 1932, which almost made FDR not even get the nomination. I suggest you read your history. [History is something that is lost among the youth today!]

Obama is no FDR no matter how this New Dem Party wants to swing it, and his civilian corps is not comparable to the New Deal. It goes way beyond something that most Dems and real liberals are not comfortable with.

I would think that students would be very concerned about tying their receipt of federal grant funds and loans to which group they volunteer for determined by the Obama presidency. And he has made no bones about his desire to expand the faith-based recipients for such funds. Perhaps you should look at this plan, one of the few policy proposals Obama has bothered to expound upon. You cannot assume that Obama is for the mere expansion of groups like the PeaceCorps and AmeriCorps by increasing their federal dollars. He is NOT saying that.

Comment by Matthew Weaver | 2008-09-09 10:02:38

Excellent post. The lies being thrown out by MoveOn, Obama’s campaign, and the nutroots gangs is incredible in the audacity. The stupidy of the adoring media to then repeat them, even after they are shown to be lies is pathetic. Hopefully people who take only an occasional look at the political news realize the lies they are being fed.

“Palin supported Forbes in 2000, and worked on his campaign. She wore a Buchanan button when Buchanan came to visit as a sign of respect. For what it’s worth, this “right wing extremist” is supporting OBAMA.”

As others here have pointed out, Pat Buchanan is NOT supporting Obama. But that’s not the only thing wrong with this statement.

Amy must be unaware that Buchanan also ran for president in 1996. And Pat Buchanan himself says that Sarah Palin and her husband were part of his “pitchfork brigades” in 1996… BAM!

If you’re gonna “truth-squad,” Amy… you have to tell the truth.

Comment by Matthew Weaver | 2008-09-09 10:11:51

Does it really matter? I am a very strong supporter of Clinton, yet I also read Buchanan and even support many of his views. I supported and worked on Jackson’s 1984 campaign. While guilty of naivety, does this make me a racist?

Anyway, what’s your alternative? Obama? Let’s see, he’s been buds with terrorists for over 20 years. He sat in Wright’s church for 20 years! He is indoctrinated in racist black liberation theology and the anti-American hate of Wright, Meeks, and Pfleger! Is this what you instead support?! I’ll take a one-time Buchanan supporter of a life-long hate-filled racist any day.

It always makes for great verbal jousting, however :)

Just saw Palin on TV, again, it’s is AWESOME to watch how happy the crowds there are, and how POSITIVE the message is that this ticket is espousing.

Obama is comletely off his game. He seems so amazingly ANGRY all the time now, which really will not play well with undecideds (but it DOES help shore up the ‘angry left’ vote). One ticket is ALWAYS SMILING, the other ticket is down, dour and negative about absolutely everything.

It appears that now that McCain has taken Obama’s change message and made it his own, Obama’s Hope mantra is next in line to be exposed for what it was, pre-packaged corporate driven fraud.

Take care,

Sorry, but Pat Buchanan does NOT support Barack Obama. Don’t know where you got that idea. I get Pat’s columns in my inbox each week. I have read several of his books. This is his latest column that was in my inbox today:

September 9, 2008
PJB: One of Them and One of Us
by Patrick J. Buchanan

One wonders: What did Sarah Palin ever do to inspire the rage and bile that exploded on her selection by John McCain? What is there either in this woman’s record or resume to elicit such feline ferocity?

What did we know of her when she was introduced?

That she was a mother of five who had brought into this world a baby boy with Down syndrome, thus living her Christian beliefs. That she was a small-town conservative who had risen from mayor of Wasilla (Pop. 9,700) to be governor of a state twice the size of Texas.

That she was a reformer who had dethroned an Old Boys’ Network by dumping a sitting Republican governor. That she had taken on Big Oil, taxed the companies and returned the money in $1,200 checks to every citizen of Alaska. And that she had cut a deal with Canada to build a pipeline to bring natural gas to her fellow Americans.

And, oh, yes. She was “Sarah Barracuda” — a fierce high school athlete, a runner-up in the Miss Alaska pageant, a Feminist for Life and lifetime member of the NRA. Introduced by McCain, she praised Hillary Clinton and pledged to finish her work by smashing through the glass ceiling in which Hillary had made 18 million cracks.

What, in any or all of this, is there to justify the feral attacks within minutes of her introduction? What had she done to cause this outburst? Answer: absolutely nothing.

No. Sarah Palin is not resented for what she has done, but for who she is: a Christian conservative who believes unborn children are gifts of God, even those with birth defects, and have a God-given right to life.

Normally, the press is reluctant to rummage into the private lives of public servants, unless their conduct affects their duties or they preach virtues they hypocritically do not practice.

Yet, no sooner was Palin introduced, than the media went berserk over the news that her 17-year-old daughter is pregnant. As one in three births in America is out-of-wedlock and Hollywood celebrates this lifestyle, why did The New York Times and The Washington Post splash this “news” on page one above the fold?

How does Bristol Palin’s pregnancy disqualify Sarah Palin to be vice president? Why is it even relevant?

They did it because they thought it would damage Sarah Palin in the eyes of a Christian community they do not comprehend.

So out of bounds was the media that Obama, in an act of decency, declared Palin’s family off limits and reminded the media that he was himself born to a teenage single mom.

If one would wish to see the famous liberal double standard on naked display, consider.

Palin’s daughter was fair game for a media that refused to look into reports that John Edwards, a Democratic candidate for president, was conducting an illicit affair with a woman said to be carrying his child and cheating on his faithful wife Elizabeth, who has incurable cancer. That was not a legitimate story, but Bristol Palin’s pregnancy is?

Why did the selection of Sarah Palin cause a suspension of all standards and a near riot among a media that has been so in the tank for Barack even “Saturday Night Live” has satirized the infatuation?

Because she is one of us — and he is one of them.

Barack and Michelle are affirmative action, Princeton, Columbia, Harvard Law. She is public schools and Idaho State. Barack was a Saul Alinsky social worker who rustled up food stamps. Sarah Palin kills her own food.

Michelle has a $300,000-a-year sinecure doing PR for a Chicago hospital. Todd Palin is a union steelworker who augments his income working vacations on the North Slope. Sarah has always been proud to be an American. Michelle was never proud of America — until Barack started winning.

Barack has zero experience as an executive. Sarah ran her own fishing fleet, was mayor for six years and runs the largest state in the union. She belongs to a mainstream Christian church. Barack was, for 15 years, a parishioner at Trinity United and had his daughters baptized by Pastor Jeremiah Wright, whose sermons are saturated in black-power, anti-white racism and anti-Americanism.

Sarah is a rebel. Obama has been a go-along, get-along cog in the Daley Machine. She is Middle America. Barack, behind closed doors in San Francisco, mocked Middle Americans as folks left behind by the global economy who cling bitterly to their Bibles, bigotries and guns.

Barack has zero foreign policy experience. Palin runs a state that is home to anti-missile, missile and air defense bases facing the Far East, commands the Alaska National Guard and has a soldier-son heading for Iraq.

Barack, says the National Journal, has the most left-wing voting record in the Senate, besting Socialist Bernie Sanders. Palin’s stances read as though they were lifted from Reagan’s 1980 “no pale pastels” platform. And this is what this media firestorm is all about.

My son called me the other day (he’s a big O supporter) and told me that he had received an email and MoveOn.org was sending “troops” to Alaska to “dig the dirt” about Sarah Palin. But considering their (MoveOn) tactics, any friend, any family member, any business associate, will be in their cross hairs. They will not care who they slander, who they hurt, in their desire to “dig the dirt” on Gov. Palin.

The media: now a total disgrace and started to be held in contempt by every clear thinking American. It was evident that the media was in the toilet for Obama during the primaries when they took every damn thing Hillary ever said, twisted it and made her look bad. Now, it is becoming evident to ALL Americans.

So while the media will spend endless hours “digging the dirt” about Palin, how much bandwidth would it take to list the number of MSM outlets that has spent time “digging the dirt” about Obama and William Ayers. Remember, Ayers wanted to kill fellow Americans. Not our enemies, not those who wanted to harm us, but fellow Americans like police officers who are sworn to protect us from the bad guys. How much time has been spent “digging the dirt” on Obama and Rashid Khalidi, Tony Rezko (and the favors Obama did for him by helping Rezko secure millions in grant money for the biggest snake oil scam in Illinois history)? Where are the reports that Obama currently has other Weatherman Underground members working for his campaign? When will we see those connections reported in the “accepted” media?

Women on not “one” issue voters. And while Roe v. Wade is important to women (3% actually) it is not as high on the list as the war in Iraq and the economy. So when Obama raises the taxes on those individuals who file their business taxes as a “sole proprioter”, how many people will lose their jobs so that business can cover it’s new tax burder? How many jobs will incorporate in the Bahamas in order to avoid those taxes all together? How many companies will rush off shore? How many jobs have ever, EVER been created by a poor man?

Obama wants to give a tax cut to the lowest wage earner. That is bull. What he wants to do is increase the amount of money that those workers get back although they never paid one damn dime in taxes. Read the Earned Income Tax Credit rules. How much does a family of four that earns less than $35,000/yr pay now and how big a check to they get that came out of some poor smuck’s pay check in Obama’s desire to further the tenent of the Communist Manifesto? Take from those that have and give to those thay have not, the EITC being the dirty little secret that no one wants to talk about.

Today Barack Obama is talking about how he will improve our educational systems. He says that John McCain has never done anything to help in that area. But we can only look no further than the Chicago Annenburg Challange, the millions of dollars throw at the CAC, and the person who was in charge of it all (Obama) to see that even throwing millions of $$ at it, Obama acheived nada, nothing, nil, zip. It was a big, BIG flop. Yes, Senator Obama, words do have meaning. But so do actions, and your actions on the CAC showed us a great deal in your ability to improve school systems.

What can we do?

We can contact our newpapers and tell them that unless they really vet ALL the candidates, we will no longer subscribe or buy the products sold by their advertisers. We can contact the alphabet networks and tell them the same, we won’t be watching them or buying their advertiser’s products.

Americans deserve honesty in reporting and we deserve to be told ALL the facts, not just those that support the reporters personal views. We deserve truth in reporting, just as truth in lending, truth in advertising. And we deserve our media vetting a candidate that has had associations with terrorists who wanted to kill fellow Americans, a man who had strong connections to Yasar Arafat, to someone who has been convicted of theft by the Iraqi government but still roams the streets of Chicago a free man, to a convicted felon who was buddies with that Iraqi theif.

When will we get it?

Don’t worry about it. Lower 48ers stick out like sore thumbs and are not well liked. Especially in small towns like Wasilla. Alaskans will be polite, but they will not put up with someone ‘digging up dirt’ on one of their own.

“Get a new meme. The “how can you go against Hillary” thing is old.

Was this site ever a “Hillary Support Site”?

I think not.”

Yes, it was. Larry Johnson was VERY pro-Hillary. Until that is, the neocons came and took him away and put someone in his place.

Or… he was a stealth neocon to begin with.

Otherwise I would never have visited here at all. I don’t need to waste my time with liars and deceivers.

For every educated and informed voter that turns away from Obama- there will be more younger,and/or less informed voters brought on board to vote for him.

They can be swayed more easily.

We who will not vote for Sen Obama (because we either know too much about him or know absolutely nothing about him) will be labeled everything you can think of-including racists, neocons, ignorant disgruntled Hillary supporters, Ignorant militant feminists, you name it they will call us that. They will throw every label at us-except the correct one- to see what sticks.

They will NEVER EVER refer to us as well-informed, patriotic US voters who put country first.

Is anyone struck by the hypocrisy of Obama and Biden, US Congressmen, trying to blame the Bridge to Nowhere on the Governor of Alaska?

I mean come on, you two buffoons as Congressmen are the ones charged with authorizing federal funds. You are the ones that legislate the budget. Since when are Governors responsible for the acts of Congressmen?

So the writer is a LONG time supporter of Defenders of Wildlife but though a love of Hillary or hated of Obama or something now understands the wolves have to hunted from the air in friggin’ helicopters so a bunch of rednecks can have moose meat in their freezers. Very UNsportsman like. So bye bye wolves, polar bears, eagles, whales, etc & hello developers & oil rigs in ANWAR & Exxon Valdez spills that are UNcompensated 14 yrs after the fact… Frankly I’m getting tired of licking envelopes for so called wildlife preservation groups who are silent on the topic of human over population. How about clubbing a few baby seals to death for good measure & sticking some electro prodes up the butts of minks so poor people in cold climates can just stay warm. boo hoo. You may change/rationalize your entire enviornmental stance just to hawk a vote but I can’t. Both Obama & McCain want to open the immigration floodgates wider but damn, I don’t have to like it! & in an over populated world I will not to kiss up to uber breeders or assholes who think it their G-d given right to hunt animals to extinction to build subdivisions etc. This line of bs is so repugnant to me I may just stay home in Nov.

Comment by Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy | 2008-09-09 14:37:53

Wow – way to misinterpret what I said. The rumors have been that Palin herself shoots these wolves from the air since she’s a hunter. No – they are culled so that the people of Alaska who do not have the resources you apparently have can EAT. To demean them by calling them rednecks is telling – about you, not them. And your extrapolation to seals, etc, etc., has absolutely nothing to do with people hunting to eat. This may be a newsflash for you, but many people in this country HAVE to hunt to eat. I don’t like hunting myself, don’t even like guns, but I acknowledge that it is their right, and often, their necessity. Try having some compassion for those less fortunate than you.

And it has nothing to do with Hillary or Barack, it has to do with people’s daily lives.

(HERE’S the UPDATE: There are some who are debating the validity of this claim. After Obama’s speech, Buchanan said this:
“I stand with Obama (emphasis mine)! …”

Ridiculously wrong, Miss Amy. Looks like you were duped by an Internet prank.

The Buchanan video clip you referenced is here… and Buchanan clearly says: “I understand it was signed Barack Obama.” Please see for yourself. Then correct your misinformation.

Comment by Darryl | 2008-09-09 13:35:20

I think the point of the article was that Buchannan is a typical politican whom will talk about of both sides of his mouth in depending on where he is and whom he is talking too.

I have watched these commentors and rallys. I think they are very influential. What I see going on is a bunch of people at a rally lavishing praise on a canidate because the people behind them will cheer at them and make them feel special. LOL.

UBM, if you listen to ani defranco and you support any politican, you clearly don’t get her.

Comment by Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy | 2008-09-09 14:32:23

I have added another link in support of my statement. Deal with it – Buchanan supports Obama.

Comment by UBM | 2008-09-09 16:28:10

You funny, Rev. Amy. You real funny.

Here’s some of what Pat Buchanan wrote today:

“Barack and Michelle are affirmative action, Princeton, Columbia, Harvard Law. [Palin] is public schools and Idaho State. Barack was a Saul Alinsky social worker who rustled up food stamps. Sarah Palin kills her own food. …

“Sarah is a rebel. Obama has been a go-along, get-along cog in the Daley Machine. …”

Pat Buchanan has never, ever supported Barack Obama in this race. So Amy, will you please correct the misinformation in your original post?

I have a friend that came from Hollywood. He moved here because he had to take care of his dying mother. He has lots of these “rich” friends in California. From the conversations I have had with him, I can let you guys in on what is really happening this election cycle. Its all about the money and ideology. McCain was right, for the democrats, its not about the “issues”.

Obama is being paid for and brought to you via the media industry because him and his wife have become the adoration of the rich and “well-connected” hollywood crowd. These people are funneling millions and millions of money to him. For them its not about the gas, or the groceries, or paying the bills and house note. For them its about a black guy who makes them feel good when he speaks, becoming the center of attention for 4 to 8 years–he’s litterally a superstar.

Superstars used to be singers or actors, this is no longer the case. Since the rise of reality shows, anyone can be rich and famous just selling themselves to poor people who want to be like them. Obama is nothing more than this. He is a billboard, and advertisement, a popular high school prom king.

Make no mistake, this reeks of 19th century Liberalism in England. The rich are no longer connected to any of us. They live in another world, full of extravagence and overindulgance, and they use us to work for them and all the while they do nothing for us except put on a pretty gown and give a wonderfull speech every now and then. This is what Obama represents and unfortunately a large majority of american are eating it up. They have joined the souless in America.

Comment by Tristan | 2008-09-09 13:26:26

Haha wolves, how appropriate. The point is that Palin has been on the scene barely a week and the MSM and liberal blogs have cried wolf too many times and are now no longer believed. If a story came out tomorrow that Palin killed her parents and buried them in the backyard I and most people would be saying “Wow that media bias has really gotten out of hand”.

[...] Move On’s (And Others) Rumor Mongering – Updated [...]

Comment by FembotsForObama | 2008-09-09 16:55:38

Sorry to post something so long, but it is relevant to Rev Amy’s post on MoveOn’s rumor mongering, since George Soros has provided the seed money to them and other liberal groups. One has to question why such a person has been instrumental in the development of The New Democratic Party that has selected Obama as its leader.

See George Soros was a Hungarian Jew and Nazi colloborator. What I think is striking is his absolute lack of remorse for what he did. This is from an interview during “60’s Minutes” with Steve Kroft on 12/20/1998:

Kroft: (Voiceover) These are pictures from 1944 of
what happened to George Soros’ friends and neighbors.
(Vintage footage of women and men with bags over their
shoulders walking; crowd by a train)
Kroft: (Voiceover) You’re a Hungarian Jew. . .
Mr. Soros: (Voiceover) Mm-hmm.
Kroft: (Voiceover) . . .who escaped the Holocaust. . .
(Vintage footage of women walking by train)
Mr. Soros: (Voiceover) Mm-hmm. (Vintage footage of
people getting on train)
Kroft: (Voiceover) . . .by–by posing as a Christian.
Mr. Soros: (Voiceover) Right. (Vintage footage of women
helping each other get on train; train door closing with
people in boxcar)
Kroft: (Voiceover) And you watched lots of people get
shipped off to the death camps.
Mr. Soros: Right. I was 14 years old. And I would say
that that’s when my character was made.
Kroft: In what way?
Mr. Soros: That one should think ahead. One should
understand and–and anticipate events and when–when
one is threatened. It was a tremendous threat of evil. I
mean, it was a–a very personal experience of evil.
Kroft: My understanding is that you went out with this
protector of yours who swore that you were his adopted
godson.
Mr. Soros: Yes. Yes.
Kroft: Went out, in fact, and helped in the confiscation
of property from the Jews.
Mr. Soros: Yes. That’s right. Yes.
Kroft: I mean, that’s–that sounds like an experience that would send lots of people to the psychiatric couch for
many, many years. Was it difficult?
Mr. Soros: Not–not at all. Not at all. Maybe as a child
you don’t–you don’t see the connection. But it was–it created
no–no problem at all.
Kroft: No feeling of guilt?
Mr. Soros: No.
Kroft: For example that, ‘I’m Jewish and
here I am, watching these people go. I could
just as easily be there. I should be there.’
None of that?
Mr. Soros: Well, of course I c—I could be
on the other side or I could be the one from
whom the thing is being taken away. But
there was no sense that I shouldn’t be there,
because that was—well, actually, in a funny
way, it’s just like in markets—that if I weren’t
there—of course, I wasn’t doing it, but somebody
else would—would—would be taking it
away anyhow. And it was the—whether I was
there or not, I was only a spectator, the property
was being taken away. So the—I had no
role in taking away that property. So I had no
sense of guilt.

The Soros family was among the “elite” Hungarian
Jews, which afforded them the ability to make arrangements
to survive under the Nazi occupation.

Soros has been the main backer of Obama since he was a state senator, and was the source of the soft money that went into his campaigns.

I am really really curious how some Obama backers can start explaining to me how a person like Obama who claims he is taking the moral high road and starting a new form of politics can knowingly receive backing by a man with such a lack of remorse for what he did to his own people and his own culture. Needless to say, Soros is not liked by many Jews.

Deer has to be thinned out during hunting season. And if not can you see how many deer will take over and running into the path of cars? And can you see how many people will get hurt OR Killed. And to go and try this is just unreal.Again had put down the hunters who hunt for food. Now what else you want to try to smear a women who took out corruption in her own party. So the deer thing sounds a lost cause.

I don’t think Barack can get US out of the pickle we’re in without divine intervention; it’s a pretty deep hole.
BUT the Republicans have had the ball for quite sometime. How they got it is questionable (Supreme Court Decision).
Eight years ago the country was in the Black and was not hemorrhaging billions a week because of a trumped up war. Joe American was pretty happy. He could afford to gas up his 4×4, at less than $2.00 per gallon, and head to the lake for LABOR DAY weekend.
The Right was happy Bill passed NAFTA. But it was too good, so they grabbed Billy Boy by the jewels and wouldn’t let him go (a moral issue). Don’t we all live in glass houses?
Now it’s a lifetime later, and here we go again.
Mc Same is talking about CHANGE (that’s Barack platform) but his current voting record shows he’s voted 95% with Bush. Maybe he just voted that way to get the nomination (who knows why people do what they do). He thinks US can muscle a stay in IRAQ. I guess he didn’t learn that one in Vietnam (Documented Iraq civilian deaths 87,800 – 94,700+, that could be up to 1/2 million),
And as for Afghanistan, they are tuff and they have nothing to lose. Ask the Russians or any other nation who have tried them. I can’t believe we’re making any brownie points by bombing their women and kids. We had our chance and blew it. And there a lot of money to be made selling hard drugs which, up until a few years ago, had been all but eradicated, thanks to the tali ban.
So I’m voting for a change (not McSame). The way we’ve been going, we’re making enemies, at a faster pace. We take the moral high grown, but can’t hold on to it. We need someone with morals. Is that asking too much? I think Barack is wrong about Afghanistan; and Pakistan is a hornet’s nest. But CHANGE and hope Biden doesn’t get to involve.
As for Palin, Me Smells a RAT. If anyone is going to drop out, she may not make the cut. In comes Lieberman, what a supprise.
WAKE UP!!!!!

McCain has never earned a dime in the private sector during his entire seventy-two years on this planet, you might ask yourself what are these “opportunities” he’s been so “blessed by” that now allow him to own more houses than he can remember. Well, it turns out it was really only one opportunity but McCain jumped on it when it presented itself. It was when a forty-three-year-old John McCain met a twenty-four-year-old heiress named Cindy Lou Hensley at a party in Hawaii in 1979 and promptly began having an affair with her. After about a year of cheating on his wife of fifteen years — the wife who had kept vigil during his entire POW experience — John and Cindy decided to make it legal and tie the knot so he could move to Cindy’s home state of Arizona and run for Congress. He divorced his wife Carol in April 1980 and married Cindy — and her money — a month later. As you would expect, the wedding was a grand society affair befitting the marriage of a twenty-something debutante to a middle-aged man. The only blemish to the entire event was the conspicuous absence of the three children who McCain had walked out on and who didn’t speak to him for several years afterwards. But, hey, can there be a bigger downer at your wedding than having your abandoned kids throwing rocks at you while everyone else is throwing rice?
