The Obama Campaign May Have Finished Itself Off Permanently — Through Utter Cruelty [Update]

SAT. A.M. UPDATE: THIS has become a monster story on the Internet. Memeorandum.com is tracking the huge number of posts. However, so far, I see no indication that the MSM is doing its job on this story. (I’m shocked, just shocked.)
……………………….

Today, the Obama campaign launched a smart-alecky ad mocking John McCain’s age and inability to keep up with modern devices, such as using a computer. Why, John McCain doesn’t even know how to send an e-mail. Writes Mark Halperin for Time’s blog The Page, “In one of his two latest TV spots, the Land of Lincolner gets personal, saying McCain has admitted he doesn’t know how to use a computer or send an e-mail, doesn’t understand the economy.”

Here’s the problem: John McCain cannot send an e-mail, not because he hasn’t bothered to learn, but because he is physically unable to do so.

John McCain, because of the torture he endured as a prisoner of war, cannot use a computer keyboard. John McCain can’t even comb his own hair.

This ad, released by the Obama campaign today, and played numerous times on television, is utterly cruel, and should not only be pulled from the Obama Web site and Obama YouTube channel — where it is still displayed — but also require Obama to issue a profound apology:

Thanks to Ed Morrissey, we have the full back-story on this:

Earlier today, Barack Obama’s campaign released an ad attacking John McCain for not knowing how to send an e-mail. Their crack research team apparently never heard of Google or Lexis-Nexis, but Jonah Goldberg does. He discovers why McCain doesn’t use a keyboard — his torturers made sure he couldn’t. The Boston Globe reported it eight years ago:

McCain gets emotional at the mention of military families needing food stamps or veterans lacking health care. The outrage comes from inside: McCain’s severe war injuries prevent him from combing his hair, typing on a keyboard, or tying his shoes. Friends marvel at McCain’s encyclopedic knowledge of sports. He’s an avid fan - Ted Williams is his hero - but he can’t raise his arm above his shoulder to throw a baseball.

After Vietnam, McCain had Ann Lawrence, a physical therapist, help him regain flexibility in his leg, which had been frozen in an extended position by a shattered knee. It was the only way he could hope to resume his career as a Navy flier, but Lawrence said the treatment, taken twice a week for six months, was excruciatingly painful.

”He endured it, he wouldn’t settle for less,” said Lawrence, who rejoiced with McCain when he passed the Navy physical. ”I have never seen such toughness and resolve.”

Making fun of a war hero’s severe injuries — smooth move, Team O. Talk about computer illiteracy! Doesn’t anyone on the Obama campaign know what they’re doing? Didn’t it ever occur to them that a man who can’t raise his arms above his head might have a physical barrier to using a computer?

Thank you, Ed.

What a terrible error, Team Obama.

The sooner you issue a truly sincere apology, the better.

If you have the character to do so.

Frankly, I doubt you do.

In your world, Being O means never having to say you’re sorry. Or eat humble pie.

Your arrogance will be the ruin of you, Barack.

Not to mention the Democratic party.

::::

The one saving grace for Barack: The media will doubtless not cover this nearly to the extent it should.

If Hillary Clinton or Sarah Palin or John McCain had made such a cruel mistake, the TV news coverage would be relentless and condemning.

We shall see if the media do their job this time. I’m not holding my breath.

Democrats on Capitol Hill fear Obama fallout
By Andrew Ward in Washington
Published: September 11 2008 23:30 | Last updated: September 11 2008 23:30

Democratic jitters about the US presidential race have spread to Capitol Hill, where some members of Congress are worried that Barack Obama’s faltering campaign could hurt their chances of re-election.

“There is a growing sense of doom among Democrats I have spoken to . . . People are going crazy, telling the campaign ‘you’ve got to do something’.”

What do they say in those McDonald’s ads? ‘I’m loving it’? ;)

Shame on Barack! His huge ego knows no bounds of decency.
“Periodically, Barack feels down in the polls and starts launching cruel attacks to boost his appeal”…

Generally speaking, when one invokes HITLER, one has lost the argument, but this appears to be an exception to the rule.

The whole “bunker mentality” concept is a bit amusing. And it has that ring of reality around it, too!

OT–I’m still amazed that we’re at the point where we CAN laugh at that shit! I can remember a time when more than a few people remained APPALLED at Hogan’s Heroes (and that was BEFORE Bob Crane’s perversion was exposed) and even making cracks about the assasination of Lincoln was viewed as “too soon!”

I just hope the lessons of the war are taught–I kinda don’t think they are, which is a shame.

The more Americans who see this ad, the better. This will show everyone the true Barack Obama.

And this ad will play much worse throughout our country than the “General Petraeus or General Betray us” ad from the infantile MoveOn.Org geniuses.

Someone might have taken the time to figure out that most civilized Americans don’t like it when you belittle a person who has served their country, especially not a person with a lifetime in uniform, like Petraeus (whether you agree with his actions or not — these slurs do not get the point across).

And they really don’t like it when you make fun of someone’s disability — particular since it was the result of torture.

Obama, Axelrod and company should really hang their heads in shame tonight — but I think they have no shame.

Honestly, if I didn’t know any better, I would think they are deliberately trying to lose this election. Hmmm.

Comment by abbie | 2008-09-12 22:41:00

Obama keeps whining that no one focuses on the issues, yet he’s the one talking about lipstick on pigs and smelly fish. McCain wanted to do town hall meetings with him, but no, he’d rather focus on the fact that he can type faster than McCain and knows how to hit the “send” button on a computer. How very Presidential of him.

Comment by Perry Logan | 2008-09-13 05:48:13

Shameful and despicable.

But don’t forget: the Republican Party has a proven history of smearing Viet Nam veterans. They were smearing John McCain before we ever heard of Barack Obama.

The Republicans thought nothing of smearing John Kerry in 2004, so they could get their National Guard deserted hacked into the White House. Remember those cute little Purple Heart bandages they wore at their convention? For this alone, every Republican in America should be tarred and feathered.

Comment by roseeriter | 2008-09-13 06:21:28

No offense Perry, but mocking a blowhard like Kerry with bandaids is pretty mild compared what the Obamacrats have done and said about Hillary and Sarah. I know you don’t like Obama so I wonder who you’ll vote for, but McCain and Hillary are more alike being Centrists than not.

And if you think McCain hearts Bush I doubt it.

I ranted and raged against Bush since 2000, but after seeing the Obamacrats and knowing how PHONY the DNC/Dems are I’m choosing Country First this time.

Uppity Woman’s Sawdust article here a few days ago really Hit Home about the real Truth Of the Democrats for me.

Believe me most Of Us Hillary supporters who have decided to support McCain/Palin are voting Republican for the VERY first time. And its not going to be easy, but anyone will be a step up over Obama.

Comment by Zelda Crunch | 2008-09-13 06:38:46

Kerry is such a loser anyway.

Comment by Marble68 | 2008-09-13 14:02:12

EXACTLY!

The more I learn about Obama, the more I dislike the direction he’s wanting to go.

After doing a little research about Palin I find that most of what is being said about her is absolutely false.

Someone said it elsewhere; but Obama runs this ad but doesn’t effectively search the web? If he can’t manage a campaign effectively, how can he manage the country?

Again, I wholeheartedly agree. I have to vote for McCain. I think he’s a decent man and stands for reform, not just a change in policy. When I found out Obama got the 3rd most contributions from Fannie Mae / Freddie Mac I knew where he stood.

It breaks my heart what Obama is doing to the proud democratic party.

we better have centrists like McCain then communists!!!
Hillary is not centrist, She is Progressive!!!

Comment by bmc | 2008-09-13 06:34:30

That’s true. The Republicans did mock John Kerry’s service in Vietnam and it was outrageous. I hope no one here will succumb to defending such odious behavior from Republicans in 2004 because there is NO DEFENSE for such disgusting displays.

And, in fact, McCain deplored and condemned the swiftboat attacks on John Kerry when they were occurring because he knew full well that the Republicans were acting despicably. McCain respects John Kerry’s service, and in fact the two worked together to normalize US relations with Vietnam–for which they were both criticized by some in the GOP.

So, keep it real here. Perry Logan is right on this point. The Republican convention in 2004 was a pathetic and ugly display. I know John McCain would agree with that opinion.

Comment by Jana | 2008-09-13 16:11:42

Look, a campaign has VERY little if any control over what a 527 will put out there.

A campaign DOES have control over what THEY put out there!

Obama crossed the line here…intentional or not, either way shows a complete lack of judgment and character!

NOBAMA ‘08!!

Comment by JimDawg | 2008-09-13 13:53:30

As a Vietnam veteran myself, the only one that deserved to be smeared was that traitor Kerry. He was and continues to be the lowest piece of shit this side of Jane Fonda.

Comment by Jkmyers | 2008-09-14 05:41:34

Kerry was exposed as a liar after he said that troops in Vietnam were all rapist and murderers. That was the problem that Republicans had with him especially after other Vietnam Veterans came forward exposing him as a liar. McCain does not get a free pass with Republicans either but because of ideology not because he has a problem telling the truth.

They also failed to use Goggle to find an article from Forbes back in 2000:

“In certain ways, McCain was a natural Web candidate. Chairman of the Senate Telecommunications Subcommittee and regarded as the U.S. Senate’s savviest technologist, McCain is an inveterate devotee of email. His nightly ritual is to read his email together with his wife, Cindy. The injuries he incurred as a Vietnam POW make it painful for McCain to type. Instead, he dictates responses that his wife types on a laptop. “She’s a whiz on the keyboard, and I’m so laborious,” McCain admits.”

Well, some folks get a little cranky when they can’t have free college, free welfare, free condoms and above all, free abortion.

These bastards act as if the president’s most important job is to know the latest computer technology and cut their constituents a welfare check, with the tab going to everybody’s children– or grandchildren, depending on when the country collapses.

Comment by mary | 2008-09-14 13:16:08

In Canada, Dr. Morgentaler just received the Order of Canada for his ‘open clinics’ in the 70s and 80s in Canada that enabled victimized children (teenagers like Palin’s daughter) who were pregrant due to Rape and Incest, mental health of finances to have an abortion (not late term of course!). I consider Canada a civilized country and one that gives its women PERSONAL CHOICE IN ABORTION!
You cannot insist that the Government acts irresponsibly and uses a warrant to search every girl’s and woman’s womb and interfere with her person! This is barbaric.
However, education should be given to girls to AVOID UNWANTED PREGNANCIES. Teen pregnancies have considerable diminished as result of education.

Hillary’s enlightened stand on education was both conservative (no late terms and qualified) and progressive in GIVING WOMEN THE CHOICE OVER THEIR BODIES–NOT THE DAMN GOVERNMENT!

wow I didn’t know this. But I thought it was a bad move because many of seniors and elderly do not know how to use a computer. My dad doesn’t know how to use a computer but he sure as hell knows how to vote! By making fun of McCain for not using a computer he is it reinforces that elitist snob persona that so many think he is already. I know another man that is rich and he doesn’t know how to send and email either because he pays people to run his business and send his emails. This is just dumb on so many levels.

Comment by roseeriter | 2008-09-13 06:24:45

You must be David Axelrod.

Yes, that is a possibility. Believe it or not, that occurred to me as well as I was writing up this article.

But it is extremely time-consuming and inefficient to use such devices, and it is far smarter for a busy man like John McCain to have able staff who can handle these tasks for him.

Voice recognition software is great, if you only use it to make lists, create rough drafts for memos are chat with your friends. It makes tons of spelling errors, you have to dictate punctuation and pauses, and you have to repeat basic grammar to it. It doesn’t recognize the difference between most words phonetically or when a letter is upper or lower case. Great if you’re Stephen Hawkins, but a PITA for a senator who writes very long speeches and would find an assistant more helpful.

Two weeks ago the polls at mydd had Obama over 300 EC votes and John McCain struggling at 225 or so. Look how he has managed to make a sow’s ear out of a silk purse. We can only hope he keeps it up and takes out down ballot Dems while he is on a roll.

Comment by Blue Intrigue | 2008-09-12 22:50:30

OMG! You just called Sarah Palin a pig. I mean the polls dropped when she was named VP, so clearly that sow’s ear remark is sexist!

Comment by Hope Floats | 2008-09-12 22:55:02

It’s only going to get better. Dukakis was polling better at this point. Barely over a month to go, and Obama’s going down in flames.

The man is a sick joke, he is so consumed with Sarah Palin that he cannot concentrate on his own campaign. Mocking a woman can be hazardous to his bid to become President — in fact McCain is already leading Obama by 13% among women–another image of Obama demeaning women will double that.

Substantive. Who do you think will initiate levies and taxes on internet trade and traffic? McCain or Oblahblah? Vote for Oblahblah and you’ll find out that by the first 100 days you would have to pay 2/3 percent federal taxes on internet commerce and 1/2 percent on traffic volume. Maybe more. Is that substantive enough?

You may have been born here, but you are NOT AMERICANS!

When REAL Americans find out about this they will join together and make sure that slimey, little worm you nominated will go down in a devastating defeat. He will then resign from the Senate and become a Bill Ayers style, bitter, anti-American collge professor at some leftist school.

Of course we hate Obama when he is so dismissive and trivial of every last category that isn’t him, and we aren’t buying the “it was my staffers” stuff either. He likes to claim that running his campaign is the experience he needs to be preznit, doesn’t he? It will be good for you to read not only because the majority of voters in this country are over fifty, but also because you will be old someday yourself (if you are lucky).

Nothing would make me happier than to see the Obamination over and done with.

There is still enough time for them to fully implode, have all the DNC leaders offer full mea culpas and apologies put together a ticket with Hill and her choice of VP and head towards november.

Pelosi Reed and Dean will ofcourse need to resign.

Donna Brazile will have to be kicked out of the party along with James Clyburn and every other racemonger.

Keith Olberman will have to be taken into custady and evaluated for mental health reasons and then put in an institution.

Ofcourse none of that will happen. We will be forced to watch and laugh as this greek temple tragedy plays out over the next 8 weeks and the DNC implodes and meltdown into utter and total chaos in horrificly garish detail.

If this is what happens when they takes the gloves off, maybe they should just keep them on in the future.

Update (AP): I’m not sure how he’s accessing the ‘Net given his injuries, but he does appear to have some kind of access. From an NYT interview in July:

Q: What websites if any do you look at regularly?

Mr. McCain: Brooke and Mark show me Drudge, obviously, everybody watches, for better or for worse, Drudge. Sometimes I look at Politico. Sometimes RealPolitics, sometimes.

(Mrs. McCain and Ms. Buchanan both interject: “Meagan’s blog!”)

Mr. McCain: Excuse me, Meagan’s blog. And we also look at the blogs from Michael and from you that may not be in the newspaper, that are just part of your blog.

Q: But do you go on line for yourself?

Mr. McCain: They go on for me. I am learning to get online myself, and I will have that down fairly soon, getting on myself. I don’t expect to be a great communicator, I don’t expect to set up my own blog, but I am becoming computer literate to the point where I can get the information that I need – including going to my daughter’s blog first, before anything else.

Maybe he’s able to move the mouse so he can access sites bookmarked for him?

Update (Ed): Jonah Goldberg makes an excellent point in an update:

Lord knows I think the chicken-hawk arguments are stupid. And I don’t think the fact that Obama never served in the military should count against him in and of itself. But how stupid is it for the Obama campaign to claim that McCain is unqualified to be president because he can’t grasp cyber-security issues based on the fact he has never sent an email when the McCain campaign can just as easily say Obama can’t understand first order national security issues because he’s never fired a rife, flown a plane, commanded men in battle, or faced an enemy? I mean which prepares someone to be commander in chief better, hitting “send” on AOL or fighting a war?

In fact, didn’t Obama just make all of those arguments valid and fair?

Update II: Ace notes that Forbes Magazine noted McCain’s disability in 2000, too:

In certain ways, McCain was a natural Web candidate. “She’s a whiz on the keyboard, and I’m so laborious,” McCain admits.

How difficult was this for a campaign to find before they ran an ad embarrassing themselves?

Could it have anything to do with the Obamaphiles claiming every word out of her or Bill’s mouth was meant as a racist comment. Obama’s supporters editing clips from 16 yr old video’s falsely claiming Clinton supporters were making racist statements? Or are you going to claim Obama’s campaign had nothing to do with any of it. Just like they apparently had no control over illegal campaign fund raising in Kenya being advertised on the official Obama campaign website. And of course we know Obama had no control over changing the laws in Illinois to make it possible for his buddy Rezko to commit his crimes. I’m beginning to think that Obama supporters should be taken in and subjected to genetic testing so we can start screening for the STUPID gene they are obviously carrying to prevent mankind from going the way of the DODO!

You damn right AAs are pissed off at the Clintons because Obama lied about them.

Obama had won Iowa, lost New Hampshire, lost Nevada, and was desperate to win SC, otherwise his candidacy would have been over if he could not win a state with such a large black, democratic primary majority. At that point Hillary lead in the SC poll and had 65% black support. He had to pry those votes from her hands and he had a limited amount of time to do it. As a result he and his wife put into action their revolting racial strategy to rile up the black people. Do you people actually think the Clintons would under those favorable circumstances come to SC and conspire to make black people angry with race baiting talk and then expect them to go out and vote for Hillary? If anyone believes that he is an idiot. I don’t think Clyburn believed it either therefore he was complicit in this fraud that was perpetuated on black people. Just as with the southern governors George Wallace and Lester Maddox, his strategy worked perfectly. HE MADE A FOOL OUT OF BLACK PEOPLE!. As an AA female Hillary supporter, a person who marched with DR. King, and a firm believer in truth telling, I DESTEST OBAMA FOR WHAT HE HAS DONE AND I WILL NEVER VOTE FOR HIM. He is today’s black George Wallace and Lester Maddox using race for crass political gains.

Finger-to-the-wind Iraq Stands

” In July of `04, Barack Obama, “I’m not privy to Senate intelligence reports. What would I have done? I don’t know,” in terms of how you would have voted on the war. And then this: “There’s not much of a difference between my position on Iraq and George Bush’s position at this stage.” That was July of `04. And this: “I think” there’s “some room for disagreement in that initial decision to vote for authorization of the war.” It doesn’t seem that you are firmly wedded against the war, and that you left some wiggle room that, if you had been in the Senate, you may have voted for it”

Freedom Fighter, you know you want to open your eyes to the truth. Just do it. Obama won’t come after you. You know Obama is a dimwit, an empty suit. It’s still not too late. You’ll thank yourself later. Just get it over and you’ll feel much much better. The stress and that heavy feeling in the pit of your gut will go away. Just drop him like a bad habit. I mean really, what has he really done for you? Name his greatest accomplishment.

Really? There are none? Right, there are none.

There is nothing there. It is easy to see once you clear your mind and think about it.

See, it wasn’t that hard. Just kick him to the curb, and get on with life. He isn’t what he made himself out to be, no reason to go down with the Titanic when there are lifeboats left. After all, you were fooled. Many people were fooled. No one is going to think bad if you do give him up. Well, maybe the drones on those insane Obama kool-aid sites, but then again you don’t need their kind either. Who are they anyway? Right, a bunch of internet weenies who are eating up their parent’s credit cards taking classes they will fail in anyway. They haven’t had to face real responsibility yet. Obama was the cool kid on the block. They believed in Obama. They believed he was the answer (to what question, they do not know). They were fooled too.

You, Freedom Fighter, don’t have to remain blind. You’ve been here for awhile now. You have seen information and read ideas from different viewpoints that you just don’t get on those hate-filled sites. It’s creeping in your mind. Somewhere, you know the truth. You know it. It’s ok to question yourself. It’s ok to question Obama.

Free yourself of the shackles of lies and hate. Just give him up. You think he cares what you think? You think he will help you? He doesn’t care about you. Really, he doesn’t.

Free yourself, Freedom Fighter. Can you do it?

Yes You Can!!!

This ad is so lame. Besides the fact that it makes fun of McCain’s permanent injuries from being a POW, the ad is simply ineffective. It reflects Obama’s lame sense of humor. The music is awful and it makes fun of old people. My mother doesn’t use the internet either. That doesn’t make her retarded. This is going to rub a lot of people the wrong way. The only people who would find this ad funny are wealthy 20-something Obamabots who believe that anyone who can’t afford MacBook and internet access isn’t worth the dirt off their shoes.

I read about this at Commentary earlier today and was really sadden. The ad was really stupid anyway: I don’t believe for a nanosecond McCain doesn’t know about computers or cell phones; second the ad insults millions of Americans that don’t use computers(I guess Obama wrote Florida off for good with this).
But as SusanUnPC says: we can now add cruel to stupid.

The Obama campaign have given reporters their marching orders for today and the weekend: use the word “dishonorable” while describing McCain and feign as much “outrage” as possible for McCain’s 2 ads ( lipstick & education)… And the reopoters complied: today I heard 5 different reporters going through the same routine and read a couple other as well.

Comment by VRWC - Obama out-Bidens Biden Dept. | 2008-09-12 22:32:20

Biden’s understandable gaffe with a paraplegic in a live setting (asking him to stand, then realizing his error, and then, making the best of it, asking everybody to stand for the paraplegic) might have been a timely warning to the Obama campaign. But instead Obama has bested Biden in the gaffe contest. At least Biden recovered in a quick and admirable way. Obama will first have to work through and get over the feeling that he was right at the time given the info that he had. You know how Obama is. Obama is never just plain wrong. Obama was always right under the truth conditions as given at the time. Soporific pride.

McCain is not unaware of the Internet, he does surf it, and has pushed for a permanent Internet sales tax ban for years - since 2001 or earlier, if I recall aright. Whether one thinks that permanent ban on tax a good or bad idea, it’s certainly the case that McCain has thought about Internet.

Comment by Retired | 2008-09-12 22:52:46

It was a 527 group ad, and it was about Obama’s friendship with William Ayers. Apologies for the huffpo link, and for having my facts wrong:

WASHINGTON — A conservative nonprofit group with a past link to Sen. John McCain’s presidential campaign wants to spend $2.8 million on an ad questioning Democrat Barack Obama’s relationship to a founder of the 1960s radical group Weather Underground.

The ad, which is expected to begin airing Thursday in Michigan and Friday in Ohio, focuses on William Ayers, whose Weatherman organization took credit for a series of bombings, including nonfatal explosions at the Pentagon and U.S. Capitol four decades ago.

American Issues Project, the sponsor of the ad, is a nonprofit 501(c)4 organization. One of its board members, Ed Failor Jr., was a paid consultant for McCain’s campaign in Iowa last year. The campaign paid his firm $50,000 until July 2007. American Issues Project spokesman Christian Pinkston said Failor has no connection to the McCain campaign now.

The ad signals the emergence of the type of tough advertising by independent organizations that operate outside the financial limits of campaign finance law. It is reminiscent of the Swift Boat ads aired against John Kerry four years ago questioning his military service and are widely blamed by Democrats for contributing to his defeat.

Organizers sought to air the ad on Fox News Channel, but a Fox spokesman said the network declined to run it. He would not say why.

Ayers is now a professor at the University of Illinois at Chicago. He and Obama live in Chicago’s Hyde Park neighborhood and served together on the board of the Woods Fund, a Chicago-based charity that develops community groups to help the poor. Obama left the board in December 2002.

Obama also was the first chairman of the Chicago Annenberg Challenge, a school reform group of which Ayers was a founder. Ayers also held a meet-the-candidate event at his home for Obama when Obama first ran for office in the mid-1990s.

“Barack Obama is friends with Ayers, defending him as, quote, ‘Respectable’ and ‘Mainstream,’” the ad states. “Obama’s political career was launched in Ayers’ home. And the two served together on a left-wing board. Why would Barack Obama be friends with someone who bombed the Capitol and is proud of it? Do you know enough to elect Barack Obama?”

This is so disgusting on so many levels.

My mother suffered a stroke ten years before she died. She couldn’t move her right side at all. She couldn’t get out of bed unless others got her out to sit in a chair and only was able to leave the nursing home on rare occasions.

Yet, she still had every bit of her mental faculties and made a point to vote an absentee ballot up until when she died just two years ago, when her heart finally gave out.

She never used the internet of course, who could even think of such a thing under those conditions. And there are hundreds of thousands of others like her being cared for all across this country by family or in nursing homes. Their physical limitations in no way effect their mental capacity, and they can think and reason just as good as you or I.

I am so angry over this ad that I can’t see straight. Fuck you, Barack Obama. Sorry, censor it if you want but I can think of no other way to put it.

There’s no telling if he’s going to buy a tape from the Video Professor, or just have his son-in-law sit down with him for a few days, but John McCain has decided to learn how to use the internet.

“I am learning to get online myself, and I will have that down fairly soon, getting on myself,” McCain told the New York Times in an interview that appeared Sunday. “I don’t expect to be a great communicator, I don’t expect to set up my own blog, but I am becoming computer literate to the point where I can get the information that I need.”

Even so, McCain bluntly admits, “I don’t e-mail. I’ve never felt the particular need to e-mail.”

Much like Obama’s lipstick on a pig and smelly fish remarks. Had he not been caught making sexist comments about Hillary, stroking the side of his jaw with his middle finger when he mentioned her name is a speech or brushing her off his shoulder we might have believed it was a gaff on his part.

He set the tone Obama and alot of people sure damn followed.

Not for one minute I doubt the cruelty to this ad. A couple of days ago I posted a comment about how on Taylor Marsh a poster was making comments calling McCain a “Crippled War Monger” and I was pissed that they were allowing comments like that without moderation but I got banned for saying that shit wasnt right because you dont know who is on the other side of that computer screen.

God do they even know how many of us have gotten injured in this war alone? The injuries suffered? I know Obama knows because he has talked about traumatic head injuries suffered from those who have gotten hurt. I cant believe THIS is what you get when the gloves come off. At least they had the heart and gave us the courtesy to waite one day before they showed us exactly how they really feel. I guess throwing the rose on live national television wasnt enough.

Keep pretending people Barack Obama has any love for this country. Your fucking delusional. How many presidential candidates can come along and explain why they wont wear the flag pin, wont honor the tradition of rendering respect while everyone else is placing there hand over there heart, minister damns our country while saying 9-11 is the chickens coming home to roost from the goddamn pulpit, have associates pictured stepping on our flag, and wife telling you exactly when she became proud of our country for the first time?

YOU were the ones who made the excuses for him and to explain his actions and HE told you exactly how he felt as well as his wife, friends and pastor. Maybe the Democratic party should get the fucking hint before more people are hurt by there nominees campaign. There bad judgement is simply damn amazing. If the Democratic party thinks we deserve this, maybe they shouldnt have the ability to have an opinion that counts.

Obama seeks to silence ad tying him to 60s radical

Aug 25 08:47 PM US/Eastern
By JIM KUHNHENN
Associated Press Writer
DENVER (AP) - Barack Obama is striking back fiercely and swiftly to stamp out an ad that links him to a 1960s radical, eager to demonstrate a far more aggressive response to attacks than John Kerry did when faced with the 2004 “Swift Boat” campaign.
Obama not only aired a response ad to the spot linking him to William Ayers, but he sought to block stations the commercial by warning station managers and asking the Justice Department to intervene. The campaign also planned to compel advertisers to pressure stations that continue to air the anti-Obama commercial.

It’s the type of going-for-the-jugular approach to politics many Democrats complain that Kerry lacked and that Republicans exploit.

Obama’s target is an ad by the conservative American Issues Project, a nonprofit group that questions Obama’s ties to Ayers, a founder of the Weather Underground organization that took credit for a series of bombings, including nonfatal explosions at the Pentagon and U.S. Capitol four decades ago.

The lone financier of the anti-Obama ad, Texas billionaire Harold Simmons, was also one of the main funders of the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth who targeted Kerry. Simmons, a McCain fundraiser, contributed nearly $2.9 million to the American Issues Project, according to documents filed by the group with the Federal Election Commission.

Fox News and CNN have declined to air the anti-Obama ad. But by Monday afternoon, the ad had run about 150 times in local markets in Pennsylvania, Ohio, Virginia and Michigan, according to Evan Tracey, head of TNS Media Intelligence/Campaign Media Analysis Group, an ad tracking firm.

Obama spokesman Tommy Vietor said Obama supporters have inundated stations that are airing the ad, many of them owned by Sinclair Communications, with 93,000 e-mails. He called the ad false, despicable and outrageous.

“Other stations that follow Sinclair’s lead should expect a similar response from people who don’t want the political discourse cheapened with these false, negative attacks,” Vietor said.

Here is a nice one-liner from the Obama blog on the campaign site where everyone is discussing the new ads (there are maybe one or two posters who recommended removing it and many who just thought it was ineffective because it was too weak0:

“Sadly, many undecided voters have gravitated to Sarah Palin obviously because of her looks.”

http://my.barackobama.com/page/community/post/samgrahamfelsen/gG53SH/commentary

I don’t think any of them get the possible repercussions of this ad. If you are goin to argue that your opponent is not tech-savvy, you should probably ensure that you know how to use Google (or some search engine) first. Then you should probably show some type of judgement and do a little research before placing an ad on YouTube and national TV. Since Senator Obama has been declared a genius and constantly praises his own greatness in memoirs, I have to assume that in approving this commercial he was aware of all the facts.

This means he either:
1) he doesn’t care (see primaries for evidence)
2) knows the media will give him the benefit of the doubt when he throws a staffer under the bus and denies knowledge (see primaries and the graveyard under his bus for evidence)
3) he will declare it a non-issue and distraction from the real issues (even though he made the commercial), insist there is fake outrage manufactured by closet racists and the media will nod and poo-poo poor white trash folks for not seeing the higher calling of supporting ‘change we can believe in’ (see his response to Senator Clinton’s supporters’ grievances and his latest sexist attacks for evidence)

Which response will we get, assuming he is ever forced to account for anyone’s ‘misperception’ of his message?

Comment by kbdabear | 2008-09-12 23:01:16

Comment by fluffy bunny | 2008-09-12 23:15:31

Comment by fluffy bunny | 2008-09-12 23:32:01

I like to think of it this way: George Soros is liberating huge amounts of his offshore funds and spreading them throughout the American economy. Every ad buy helps pay salaries for people at TV stations, and people who works at printing companies, etc. Those people use their salaries to buy food and stuff for their families.

Better yet, more people are waking up to the toxic brew being fed to them by MSNBC, CNN, CBS, and the rest. So those media companies can alter their behavior or be replaced by new players in the market who will provide what the American consumer demands.

shrug. Every cloud has a silver lining.

Comment by Another Fred | 2008-09-13 03:29:00

Yes, I believe they can be that stupid.

Maybe when Obama said the other day (referring to the McCain campaign) “they think you’re stupid” he meant to say “I think you’re stupid.”

Comment by iVet | 2008-09-12 23:12:27

The problem with hanging too much hope on ‘Troopergate’ is that many people think the trooper had it coming to be fired, he was a pubic menace, and that if the Director of Public Safety could not see that or was too weak to act he deserved to be fired. Even if they prove that Gov. Palin abused her power, many people may not care that much because they are sick and tired of people who work for the government getting a free pass to be incompetent and unaccountable. She did not tolerate it. Did she break the law? Probably not. Many people accuse government executives of abusing power when they are acting within the scope of their duties–it is usually those who were fired and their political allies. It is most likely a witch hunt by people who have an axe to grind with Gov. Palin. They tried this stuff with President Clinton as well and the charges don’t stick because it is a gray area, the accusers have political and monetary motivations and, if the leader is popular (like President Clinton) the people tend to side with the leader rather than the partisan hacks coming after them. Is it any surprise that the investigation is being lead by an Obama supporter (check his website) and that the incompetent official who was fired went to Gov. Palin’s political enemies for backing? She pissed off a lot of politicians in the Alaska machine and has to have a stiff spine to deal with them. The DNC could have allowed the people to elect a politician with an equally stiff spine and a record of dealing with this type of thing as well, but they chose someone who has never had to withstand a tough campaign and who is a better as motivational speaker and drivel writer. He should have just sold books and joined up with Eckhart Tolle on Oprah.

Forbes magazine, 2000

In certain ways, McCain was a natural Web candidate. “She’s a whiz on the keyboard, and I’m so laborious,” McCain admits.

SEXIST PRESS CONTINUES AD NAUSEUM

In todays Chicago Suntimes Neil Steinberg writes:

I walk in beauty, as Krazy Kat used to say. My heart sings, while my Democratic brethren fuss and fret over the advent of Sarah Palin, that George Bush in drag, that QVC home shopping channel in human form. They see her as a Trojan horse, with John McCain crouching inside (and within him, a tiny George Bush, nestled in his heart).

They watch in horror as their gleeful fellow citizens fling open the gates; they see the happy crowd strain at the ropes and they despair.

Yet I am not afraid.

First, because it’s September and not November. A lot can happen in six weeks. The cracks in the feisty facade Palin offered in her maiden speech before the nation are already widening — the 300 nights of travel reimbursement the reformer received while sleeping at home; her initial support of the Bridge to Nowhere, and worst of all, the casual attitude toward the truth revealed in her brash claims, all too familiar to anyone who has been paying attention the last eight years.

Second, remember, those are just the immediately obvious flaws, the rotten fruit littering the ground, waiting to be gathered. If Palin were ready to be vice president, never mind president, she would not have spent the last two weeks in complete media isolation, while squads of Republican spinmeisters struggled to prepare her for the ordeal of being given a cat bath by Charlie Gibson, master of the slow-pitch softball.

And finally, even if the ruse works. Even if America buys this cubic zirconium in four easy payments of $33.99 and then proudly presents it to the world as a political diamond? Well then, frankly, that’s OK too, because it will be entirely our fault, and we’ll deserve what we get.”

Nearly vomiting after reading this by a writer who did not vet Obama nor write about him in this manner,
I came home to Bill Moyer interviewing Obama supporting journalists who were criticizing the media including CNN for trating Palin like a celebrity, the mocking tones of the CNN anchors and their laughter was unbelievable. These “journalists” felt that the media should be highlighting the investigations of Palin. Well, where are the investigations of Obama? When is the media going to stop talking about Palin, and Hillary before her in such an insulting manner?

Comment by WMCB | 2008-09-13 02:39:45

It’s bogus. It was entirely legal. The smearers always forget to mention that “home” at that point was 600 miles away from where she was working.

The per diem hotel/travel allowance is allowed to be used to travel home to be with family so long as it meets a certain distance requirement. It cost her no more to go home than it would have to stay at a hotel, so it was allowed.

Get out of the echo chamber people! This place is nuts!

Sarah Palin, an obvious joke and picked by John McCain for the shallowest of reasons, appearances and not judgment or experience, is a clear lapse of judgement on his part and a fatal mistake. Seems John McCain really would rather lose his integrity than lose an election.

He is losing both. The pushback against the unreality these two have attempted to foist on this country has begun and the whole sordid truth will be liberated before it’s done. That means for John McCain, it’s all down hill from here.

Sarah Palin is a dog that won’t hunt and all of the McCain campaign’s obvious attempts at innoculating her from the real world were for naught. LOL!

What a well-deserved disaster! Couldn’t happen to a sleazier bunch of goons.

Perhaps another brain-storming session with Karl Rove might help huh Johnny? lol

the “ONE”. Over 60% of the voters now believe that the MSM is doing exactly that. It won’t make any difference to the MSM what the results of “trooper-gate” prove to be. They will spin it to crucify Palin and to glorify B.O. And by the time the results are out and the MSM spin is put on it, much more than just 60% of the voters will know the game the MSM is playing.

OK, really funny.

And you know something? I bet Joe Biden knew right off the bat that this ad was a total f*uckup. I feel sorry for Biden. He took one for the democrat team by accepting the veep nom, and had any of the nasty folks in the Obama campaign consulted with him, this ad never would have been made.

Or if they had run it by him before finalizing the ad purchase, it never would have gotten on the air. Biden and McCain have been friends for over 20 years…pretty good friends. He must be just beside himself right now.

Also, the Biden joke about Sarah Palin’s being attractive was kinda funny…he said it was a big area where she is different from him.

And his statement that Hillary is qualified for veep or POTUS was in answer to a question/rant against Hillary at a town hall/campaign appearance.

Chin up, Senator Biden. Less than 2 months to go, and then you can return to the Senate.

Comment by miriam | 2008-09-13 00:41:15

Why do you think Biden is trying so hard to get out this? When he said Hillary might have been a better pick, I expected his next words to be: So please Hillary, take this job! Join the captain and crew of the good ship Titanic.

If this unbelievable ad is an example of what Obama is calling his “experience running a campaign” I wonder what he’ll call LOSING AN ELECTION.

Trying to remember about McCain’s 2000 online campaign finding some articles…

“Though some had envisioned that the Internet might supplant old media such as newspapers, radio and television, Bimber and Davis found in 2000 that old media and new media were working in complementary ways. Senator John McCain’s campaign was a good example.

McCain earned a lot of coverage in the old media when he defeated George Bush in the New Hampshire primary, Bimber said. The heavy coverage was followed by a flood of $1.5 million in contributions in just three days via the McCain Web site. McCain’s campaign staff convinced reporters that the sudden bonanza of contributions was in itself big news, which earned McCain more time and space in the mainstream media.

“The success of former Vermont governor Howard Dean this year very much echoes what happened with McCain and Bradley last time around, though Dean has benefited even more from online campaigning,” Bimber said.”

A few more comments from the Obama blog about the ads today:

1. The, stick with the elitists’ vote (or don’t worry about pissing off dumb white trash who don’t have computers) advice:

” do you ‘honestly’ believe those folks that do NOT use a computer will actually be inclined to vote for BARACK??? i mean, really!!! this is one thing that i think BARACK has to realize…he cannot be all things to all people. it just does not work like that IMHO. he’s got to be himself, present who he really is, present his policies, and let people judge and vote.”

2. The, holy crap we need Clinton help response (no comment on the ad being offensive):

“Rollo out ads that end with a Bill Clinton and Obama together with Clinton endorsing him.

And as I said earlier, SHOW NO MERCY or we could lose this election!”

“ALSO, BRING HILLARY BACK!!!! WHERE IS SHE??? VOTERS NEED TO FEEL THAT SHE IS STILL WITH THE CAMPAIGN, TOGETHER WITH BIDEN!!!”

3. The, holy crap, we haven’t realized that our own strategy was using celebrity over substance and it has backfired, they have celebrity and a person that regular folks like, we better come up with some issues:

“It further appears that most of the undecided voters in this historic election year have completely lost their focus on the issues, education and economy, which should be foremost on any political agenda but rather the voters are leaning towards the party who can best entertain them!”

The few decisions that Sen Obama has made really make me question his values and integrity.

This ad is reprehensible.Sen McCain’s physical handicap is under a campaign challenge?

WHat…are they going to go after Gov Palin’s baby boy because he has Downs Syndrome next?

Sen Obama’s campaign tactics and his position on the live birth abortion ban R E A L L Y gives me some insight into his personal values and ethics…

Here is recap of Live Birth ABortion Ban.
The Live Birth Abortion ban deals ONLY with LIVE BIRTHS- babies that are out of the uterus…and Sen Obama rejected this ban why???

Roe Vs Wade deals with a woman’s body-her uterus. Once a baby leaves the womb-the Live Birth Abortion Ban says “HANDS OFF THIS baby-it is now a person-no one has a right to KILL this person.
Sen Obama disagreed with this.

Freddoso’s book discusses this in detail. PLEASE LEARN THE TRUTH ABOUT HIS POSITION ON THIS

Read about the book that Sen Obama and his campaign DO NOT WANT YOU TO READ…

The media is completely silent about this book-(See below)

The Case Against Barack Obama: The Unlikely Rise and Unexamined Agenda of the Media’s Favorite Candidate (Hardcover)

We are the sum of all our decisions-our decisions and actions form our value system. What does this say about Sen Obama. What kind of a human being is he?

The McCain campaign should fire back with an ad that simply has Cindy McCain giving a brief explanation that John does indeed use email, but thanks to the torture he sustained for five years living in a hell hole that he is barely able to type due to discomfort — so she does this for him. Make them eat their words.

I doubt that John McCain would use a woman to answer for him.

this is like Joe Biden encouraging a handicapped, wheelchair bound Chuck Graham to stand up for a crowd.

Comment by fluffy bunny | 2008-09-13 00:34:17

No, it’s not. Biden didn’t know, and didn’t put out an ad saying that Mr. Graham wasn’t qualified for his job because of his handicap.

Tying the two together lets Obama and his ad team off the hook, IMHO.

Look at the MI polls…Rasmussen is stronger for Obama in LV polls pretty much across the board than other organizations. I read somewhere that he does a weird thing where he tries to weight results by party, but he uses old numbers with inflated representation for self-proclaimed democrats.

I have no idea if the organization that has McCain at +1 is a good one or not, but it does look like Obama’s gonna have to spend time and money in some states he probably thought would go his way automatically.

I am speechless.

Obama: you are nothing but a cruel, heartless, ruthless sociopath.

Oh, BTW, prisons are FULL of sociopaths.

Reveal your TRUE SELF for a “change.”

It’s the only “HOPE” left for you.

Obama, you are a RUDE, DISGUSTING, DEPLORABLE person. But, what you have done along with the filth & lies spewing from your mouth will eventually come full circle to HAUNT you.

YOU have THAT to look forward to! NONE OF US is INVOLVED with this because YOU DID IT ALL TO YOURSELF!

Ask Lee Atwater for his opinion on that subject, why don’t you, Mr. Obama?

GROW UP, Mr. CLUELESS.

I can’t stand that voice. Obama’s. Gives me the creeps. Something like what having Sauron breathe on you must be like. ;)

A lot of people are finding that they’re having that very same reaction to Palin’s bray.

Her Whiny Vacuousness, and her voice, are beginning to sound like trouble.

It’s fascinating watching her self-destruct though.

A lot of personal computer systems come with voice recognition. You don’t have to use either a keyboard or a mouse for a lot of the functionality. McCain could do things that way. He could at least learn what’s going on. Better still he could come out and tell people he already does know what’s going on.

BTW I’ve always suspected Obam
