“Cindy McCain, John McCain and Barack Obama pay their respects” is the caption of this Maisel/News photograph reproduced in an article that refers to the Presidential candidates’ visit to Ground Zero in Lower Manhattan on 11 SEPT 2008 as “an extraordinary show of unity 54 days from the election.”
Notice Michelle Obama was conspicuously absent from this event. Michelle Obama is not one to engage in “extraordinary shows of unity,” I guess. Besides, Michelle has priorities. But those priorities are not those related by the Chicago Tribune’s “The Swamp.” I quote:
Michelle Obama, the Democratic nominee’s wife, remained at home in Chicago, where her two daughters are going through the first week of school.
No, her priorities entail campaigning for her husband at religious conferences in Cincinnati, Ohio. While the McCains are now famously subscribing to the dictum “country first,” Michelle Obama continues to place her husband’s political ambitions above all else. The Toledo Blade explains the situation quite well in an article published on 11 SEPT 2008. I quote:
CINCINNATI – “I come here today as a Christian,” Michelle Obama said yesterday to a standing ovation at a convention of mostly black Baptists. She appealed not only for their prayers but for their votes for her husband.
“This election is going to change the world,” she said. “This election will determine the course of an entire generation. Just think about that.
“I know that no one here wants to look back and think, ‘Wouldn’t that have been great?’” she said. “I don’t want to think about what might have been. I want to look back and think, ‘We did it. We really did it, and we did it together.”’
The nonprofit National Baptist Convention USA Inc. is not permitted to endorse a candidate, but there was no doubt that the crowd of about 4,700 watching her speech in the convention center ballroom and in an overflow room receiving a video feed was firmly behind Sen. Barack Obama.
While spectators viewed Cindy McCain, John McCain and Barack Obama commemorating the lives lost during the tragic day that was September 11, 2001, on their television screens, the eyes of readers of the printed media in Ohio scanned a report on Michelle Obama’s crass and debased identity politics at a largely African-American religious conference in Cincinnati, Ohio. Did the aspiring First Lady leave the children at home, or did she decide that they can endure that particular day of their first week of school without her?
The precedence of blurring the distinction between Church and State in the name of racial and religious divisiveness and political power over one’s love of country is the lesson admirers of Michelle Obama learned on 11 SEPT 2008. But then again, admirers of Michelle Obama seem to believe it is perfectly acceptable for an aspiring First Lady to drag the children who ostensibly kept her from visiting Ground Zero into a God Damn America church wherein the following is the prevailing interpretation of September 11, 2001:
I am sure Obama partisans are not batting their eyes. They certainly did not when Michelle Obama proclaimed her lack of love of country twice when campaigning for her husband in Wisconsin.
And they certainly did not blink when the New Yorker revealed that Michelle Obama invoked Reverend Wright’s name in order to build ties of solidarity with African-American Christians in South Carolina before that state’s racially and religiously divisive primary. I quote:
Earlier on the day that Obama visited the nursery school, she addressed a congregation at the Pee Dee Union Baptist Church, in Cheraw, a hamlet of about six thousand known as “The Prettiest Town in Dixie.” The church’s makeshift gravel parking lot, next to the Pee Dee Ice and Fuel Company and bounded by train tracks, was full. After an invocation by the Reverend Jerry Corbett and an introduction by the mayor of Cheraw, Obama came to the pulpit. “You all got up bright and early just for me?” she asked the mostly elderly, almost all-black crowd. “Yes!” they roared. Obama continued, “On behalf of my church home and my pastor, Reverend Wright, I bring greetings.”
She was a Reverend Wright, “God Damn America” Christian in January, a “Christian” on 10 SEPT 2008 in Cincinnati, Ohio, and a liar when questioned by the media on 11 SEPT 2008 about her absence from the ceremonies that took place at Ground Zero in Lower Manhattan. Michelle Obama has priorities, but these priorities will not appeal to the grand majority of honest Americans who love their country in times good and bad. No wonder why her husband’s lead is eroding: when voters are asked to compare Cindy McCain and Michelle Obama, they see a Republican who always puts her “country first” and a mendacious Democrat whose patriotism is questionable. To these voters it is a question of Michelle Obama’s utterly warped priorities on a day when all aspiring public figures should at least try to feign sentiments of unity in the name of one’s unassailable love of country.

I heard on one of the networks that the base wasn’t going to permit any members of the press to be present, but then changed it’s mind.
We know it’s military policy not to permit candidates to use their bases for campaigning, no stump speeches permitted, they don’t want service people to be pawns tossed about in a campaign.

She told us with those words that she never shared our pride in our heroes, our policemen, our firemen and our private citizens who rescued others caught in that terrible terrorist attack on September 11, 2001. It was the worst of times and the best of humanity that came together that day; from the brave friend who stayed with his wheelchair bound co-worker who was waiting to be evacuated and perished with him to the 343 firemen and 37 police officers who died that day.
And Michelle Obama who had spent months chasing her husband’s political dreams across our country could not spare a few hours away from her in-school children to honor the victims and the heroes of that day 7 years ago. Who was watching them while she campaigned? Couldn’t she have hired that babysitter? After all, it wasn’t as if one of them was going off to war.

I do not have a problem with the fairness doctrine returning if it is what it was: differing points of view must have equal time on news media. I thought that doctrine served us well and it does not apply to the people who are openly committed one side or another. I also think that doctrine is valuable to ever maybe having a viable third or fourth party. I am absolutely opposed to Obama.

Considering what Rev. Wright preached the Sunday after 9/11, it’s not really surprising that Michelle avoided the 9/11 ceremony. Who doubts that she shared Wright’s view on America deserving to be hit? Standing at Ground Zero is a profoundly moving experience; maybe she didn’t want to risk it.

When MSNBC was rebroadcasting 9/11, I was listening to the coverage when Katie Couric got to the report of Palestinians dancing in the streets over the news. Which I think was later dismissed as incorrect reporting with old photos as well.
Anyway, this was the first year that I thought.

The statement on health care is what’s known in the trade as a campaign promise, and you made it from a UCC pulpit.
The “political activities” in question involve Barack Obama’s “A Politics of Conscience,” which he delivered at the UCC’s 50th anniversary General Synod in Hartford, Conn., on June 23, 2007. The UCC says that Obama agreed beforehand that his speech would contain no campaign-related content, but a transcript of “A Politics of Conscience” shows extensive campaign-related content. Furthermore, the speech was apparently pre-written; in other words, Obama did not get carried away in the heat of the moment, forget himself, and talk about his Presidential ambitions. If the UCC’s statements are accurate, Obama chose in advance to break his word to his own church, violate its trust, and get it into trouble with the IRS.

I voted for Gore. Then I heard the story of Bush going into the crowd to hug a grieving child. There are stories about him stopping Walter Reed to visit troops in the after hours so it can be a quiet visit. Then I saw him tear up talking about soldiers who had died serving America. I’ve read a lot about Lincoln and Bush’s behavior around children and the grief he shows for families and soldiers, I believe is very real. I think he took very seriously the duty of the President is to serve and protect Americans.

Watching the video of Obama and McCain at the service at Ground Zero I was stunned as Senator Obama, without his wife, simply tossed his flower on the pile of 3,000 flowers while both Senator McCain and his wife respectfully placed their flowers onto the pile. McCain – reverence and honor. Obama – casualness and disrespect.
Some will say this is “No big deal”. For me their actions at Ground Zero speak loudly of their inner character. Rituals and symbols are crucial to all societies and nations. They are part of the glue that keep us together. Obama has often times acted with an indifference to our nation’s most important symbols, starting with the Flag on his lapel to now tossing his flower at Ground Zero.

Washington (The Daily Standard) – IT’S WIDELY ACCEPTED now that Barack Obama would be better off if he’d picked Hillary Clinton as his vice presidential running mate instead of Joe Biden. Obama had his reasons, particularly his discomfort with her as his actual vice president if he’s elected. Still, Obama sacrificed a stronger ticket by rejecting Clinton.
Absent Hillary, the contest between Obama-Biden and the Republican ticket of John McCain and Sarah Palin is throwing the Democrats into disarray. The consequences of Obama’s veep decision appear mostly to favor McCain. And if Obama had picked Hillary? Here are a few of the differences.
No Palin. Okay, McCain might have picked her anyway. He was looking for a running mate who would help him shake up the campaign. And Palin has delivered spectacularly on that. But choosing her would have seemed far less of a game-changer had Obama picked Clinton. Palin would have been merely the second female running mate in 2008. And her appeal to those who had voted for Clinton in the primaries would have been reduced if not nullified altogether.
As a result, the prospects of the other potential game-changers McCain was considering–Democratic senator Joe Lieberman and pro-choice ex-Pennsylvania governor Tom Ridge–would surely have risen. And while it’s unknowable whether McCain would have picked Palin if Obama had gone with Clinton, selecting Palin would have been a lot less likely.
No Biden. He’s not an albatross, but he certainly hasn’t given Obama a boost. He has brought no balance to the ticket, not in regard to class, gender, ideology, or anything except longevity in Washington. Worse, unlike Palin, he’s generated no enthusiasm or excitement. Biden has little appeal to the working class voters, especially women, who swarmed to Clinton in the primaries. He lacks the populist streak that Clinton had fashioned for herself. Biden is simply a weaker running mate.
Party unity. Democrats have come together fairly well behind the Obama-Biden ticket–but not as well as they would have if Obama had chosen Clinton. We still hear from disgruntled Hillary backers. Reporters have discovered they’re easy to find at McCain-Palin rallies. Polls can’t tell us how many will ultimately vote for McCain and Palin. But a chunk of them will–perhaps a few million–which means that Democrats aren’t as unified as they might have been.
Ohio and Pennsylvania. Republicans figured these states, notably Pennsylvania, were all but goners if Clinton won the Democratic nomination. Even as veep, she’d have had a favorable impact. When she was passed over by Obama, Republicans jumped for joy. Ohio, which a Republican presidential candidate has to win, now leans McCain. Pennsylvania, which is crucial to a Democratic candidate’s chances, has become a ripe target of opportunity for McCain.
Arkansas. As a Southern state, Arkansas is inclined to vote Republican in presidential races unless there’s a compelling reason not to. One of those reasons: a Clinton on the Democratic ticket. Without Clinton, Arkansas moves into the leaning (strongly) McCain camp.
Vice presidential debate. This is a no-brainer. Who would be the easier opponent for Palin to face in the nationally televised debate on October 2? Clinton or Biden? The tough woman or Senator Windbag? Biden will have to be on his best behavior and treat Palin gingerly. Clinton wouldn’t have had to.
Republican women. Mark Penn, chief strategist in the Clinton campaign, once insisted that 25 percent of Republican women were ready to vote for her for president. Many crossed party lines and voted for her in the primaries. Many of those women might have voted for an Obama-Clinton ticket. But how many Republican women are going to reject Palin and vote for an Obama-Biden ticket? Mighty few.
Because of all the problems associated with the Clintons–husband Bill, her relatively high unfavorability in polls, Clinton fatigue–Hillary Clinton appeared to be the wrong running mate for Obama. I thought so. I was mistaken. As Clinton won primaries in big states and developed a populist appeal to downscale white voters, her political value soared. As it turns out, Obama needed her. McCain is lucky Obama missed his chance.

The alternative would be to say, sorry I can’t attend the funeral, I have to watch a soccer game? With an attitude like that you’d just teach kids that they are the center of the universe. Not even the death of thousands of people takes precedent over their first day of school? Life doesn’t work that way. Kids may be the center of “your world”, but they aren’t the center of “the world” and they shouldn’t be taught that.

I was living in New Jersey during 9/11. A woman I worked with husband worked in the Twin Towers; I can’t forget her hysteria and no one could find out if he was alive or dead. She was so distraught we could not let her leave, all we could do was hug her and try to offer her comfort as best we could. She had no one to go home to. Her husband survived but people he worked and they were close with didn’t.
That’s why Obama’s action with the rose and learning Michelle lied and couldn’t find it in her to attend the ceremony, really has angered me.
Let’s see how long Obama has a 3 point lead in the polls in NJ when it gets out Michelle was not home the children’s first week of school, but campaigning in two states. Obama’s lie is NOT going to sit well at all!!!

I can assure you that it was noticed and talked about by everyone around me—all of us relatives of victims. A lot of discussion about it being more offensive personally if Ms God Damn America had shown her nasty face, but overall unforgivably disrespectful to the entire country and especially military and others fighting terror that she did not. HC, the best thing to do is politely tell your mother that you both have a right to your own opinions and since they differ greatly it is best not to talk about politics or send any e-mails in reference to it. My mother came unglued when I refused to vote for George Bush. She was calling me some nasty names that I won’t repeat.
If that doesn’t work with your mother and she continues to send the anti Palin stuff, flag it as junk or just don’t respond to anything she says about it. That’s what I did with mine-or I would just politely and quickly change the subject. If you don’t engage w them they have nothing to respond to and will eventually stop talking about it.

You’ve probably give all your reasons for not supporting Obama. My sense is that a numebr of fervent Obama supporters have been so traumatized by Bush that they think the only “salvation” so to speak for the U.S. is in getting a Dem in The more extreme ones think that any method used to get a Dem in is o.k. Michhele Malkin whom I don’t generally like has a phrase for this extreme anti-Palinism. It’s called “Palin Derangement Syndrome” or PDS. It sort of sums up this attitude.

I at least nipped it in the bud with my sister in Ohio. I have a feeling my socially retarded youngest sister who so wants to be cool and her jerk husband who no one in my family can stand are Obama supporters. My mother voted for Perot, and I think she and my stepfather might be Obama supporters. But my next oldest siblings (I’m the oldest) have young families, are very traditional but emulate the GOP ticket. They both married their HS sweethearts. In my brother’s case, his wife is half-Thai and already had a daughter. My brother adopted the child, and they had a baby boy shortly after they married. My other sister moved out of the house to live with her BF at 17. A few years later she had twins. They’re all very excited about the Republicans this year. I sent my sister the list that compares Obama and Palin and also the list of lies about Palin debunked. When my sister saw her speech at the convention, she already knew about her accomplishments as well as the smear campaign being waged. So, she was very impressed and instantly enthusiastic. I suspect she and my brother talk about politics as little as possible with the rest of my family.

Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama’s wife Michelle will lead a roundtable discussion Wednesday in Fishers on issues facing working women.
They are keeping Michelle out of mainstream public view as much as possible. It looked odd to me this week watching the ceremony. If she was there, we’d all wonder why she wasn’t proud of her country right after 9/11 like the rest of us. Or, it might remind us of her Rev. Wright’s view of the U.S. the Sunday after 9/11. One thing ya can’t hide, is when you’re crippled inside.
So she may have stayed home on the first day of school, but not the second or the third. So why not on the 4th 9/11?

Well, in terms of politics and 9/11 when I think about it in the media, I think about that picture of Hillary in the mask standing in the rubble. Given her committment to America/its people, I just found it bizarre that she wasn’t there (or was she).

For those who are wrapped up in the 9/11 conspiracy, here’s a news flash for you.
National Graphic ran a riveting documentary about 9/11 a few years ago. A New York City teacher said that a week before 9/11/1 one of her 5th grade students (a Palestinian boy) kept looking out the window of the classroom (a high rise).
The teacher asked him what he was looking at, and he pointed out the window at the Twin Towers and said, “See those buildings? They won’t be there next week.”
I find it odd that Michelle Obama wasn’t at the 911 ceremonies. Considering her past statements, they do need to make a show of her acting patriotic. If she could fly into Cincinnati for a few hours while her kids are in school to speak to the Baptists, she could have done the same with a trip to NYC and a brief appearance at Ground Zero. It’s not like the Obama campaign is one concerned with excess spending.
Mrs. Obama has never been a SAHM or a part time career woman, she’s worked full time on her career. Why are they trying to paint her as a SAHM who is there every day when her kids get home from school? Plus, if I remember, school began for the Obama girls the week before Labor Day Weekend. The explanation that this is the first week of school is erroneous, even if I’m wrong and they began the week after Labor Day.

wrongwright?I went and looked at the video of the visit to the tradecenter site on 9-11 by McCain and Obama. It was interesting to watch the interaction between the McCains and Obama with the first responders, police etc. who were there. Obama sidesteps one firefighter and goes down the line to catch up to the others. Ob didn’t even acknowledge him. Guess he was afraid JMc. would get too far away from him. Anyway, as the McCains go down the line and greet the people, the warmth and respect shown by both the McCains and the responders was heartwarming and very visible. Not so much for Barry. He tries, but it sure seems like they are just being polite to him and nothing more. The McCains are given much greater response. At one point, one guy takes off a pin and gives it to John. A little further along a gentleman gives one to Cindy. I did not see one person give OB anything but a polite smile and a few words. OB looked a little lost and like a tag-a-long, especially without his wife who wants so badly to be the next first lady. She should have been there out of respect to the event and respect for America. Fascinating isn’t it.
By the way, at the end of the video, one announcer asks the question “Where is Michelle Obama.” The response from the other is “She apparently had other events to attend.” No mention of the school thing. Big mistake on Obama’s campaign not having her get to NYC for this and it is being noticed alot.
At the end of the day, Meeeechelle wasn’t there. Some may know of her whereabouts that day, some won’t. I’m guessing the ones that don’t know will not think too positively of her no show.
Don’t know how big of a mistake it is when not one single news outlet, including Fox News (which is supposed to be biased to the right), hasn’t even made one mention of it anywhere. It’ll just get burried by the media like Ayers, Phleger, Wright, Rezko, and Obama’s muslim faith.

I think it had more to do with the Obama camp not finding out from McCain’s people whether or not John was bringing Cindy. As they coordinated the meeting at Ground Zero, Obama’s people probably didn’t bother asking and McCain’s certainly didn’t volunteer the info. Poor judgment by Barack’s reps. They’re ones to always think about their boy’s image and making him look as appealing as possible (the performance that was the DNC immediately comes to mind). This would have been a prime opportunity for Michelle to show that she’s actually “proud” of her country.
9/11 is a day of remembrance and holding your loved ones even closer. The world is watching every move these candidates make. For appearance sake, Michelle should have been with her husband as opposed to campaigning. Not a smart move at all.
The press, news commentators, and talk shows all need to be vetted. (Not censored, mind you). But I even heard Hannity start to say something agin’ Obama, then say he couldn’t continue, because his boss would be angry. We should ALL be informed as to who owns each of the news networks, who owns each of the talk shows, and who owns each of the newspapers, then know something about them and of their backgrounds, so when we hear or read this “news” we know from whence it came. Not only are there great sins (lies) in reporting the news, there are sins of ommission (not reporting news that might show to someone’s credit, because the news source is only interested in defaming someone.)

We also see from Palin’s following remark, which was also edited out, that she is far from some sort of latter day Cold Warrior which the edited interview made her seem to be:
