“You [women] Can’t Have THAT”, and other morning news
By LisaB on September 14, 2008 at 10:50 AM in Current Affairs
1) There is a terrific piece at the Baltimore Sun this morning. Go read it. Lynette Long – a familiar name to NQ, wrote about why, as a Democratic woman, she will be voting for McCain. I’ll only put a snippet here so you’ll go read the rest.
After the Democratic primaries, I and a small group of Hillary Clinton supporters met with Sen. John McCain. I explained to him that women comprise more than half of the population, yet are underrepresented in every branch of government. I asked him to choose a woman for the vice presidential slot and to increase the number of women in the Cabinet and on the Supreme Court. Mr. McCain listened respectfully to my request.
After the Democratic Primary, I was contacted by a member of Sen. Barack Obama’s Finance Committee, and we had numerous contentious conversations. I finally told him I would be happy to vote for Mr. Obama and rally other Hillary Clinton supporters, but in return I wanted Mr. Obama to pledge gender parity in the Cabinet.
Read the rest ->
“What if there aren’t qualified women – you still expect us to appoint half women to the Cabinet?” he replied. “There are 300 million people in this country; you’re telling me you can’t find 10 qualified women?” I said.
He responded, “You can’t have that.” We had no further conversations.
That’s it in a nutshell. The Obama campaign wouldn’t even commit to looking for qualified women. Amazing. Absolutely, freaking, amazing. It’s a great piece and neatly encompasses much of what we’ve all said here at NQ. Go read it.
2)The UK Daily Telegraph publishes a piece about internal worries that Democratic candidate Obama’s campaign is ignoring advice on how to beat John McCain.
The Sunday Telegraph has learned that senators, governors and union leaders who have experience of winning hard-fought races in swing states have been bombarding Obamas campaign headquarters with telephone calls offering advice. But many of those calls have not been returned.
A senior Democratic strategist, who has played a prominent role in two presidential campaigns, told The Sunday Telegraph: “These guys are on the verge of blowing the greatest gimme in the history of American politics. They’re the most arrogant bunch Ive [sic] ever seen. They won’t accept that they are losing and they won’t listen.”
——————
A senior aide to one of the most powerful Democrats in the House of Representatives voiced the fears of many: “Palin doesn’t just play to the Republican base. She has much broader appeal.”
The aide said that her repeated mockery of Mr Obama’s boasts about his time as a community organiser in Chicago are “the most effective criticisms of Barack Obama we have yet seen.” He said: “Americans in small and medium size towns dont [sic] know what the hell a community organiser is. Real Americans graduate from high school or college and get a job that pays a wage. Campus radicals go off and organise a community.”
—————-Peggy Noonan, the former Reagan speechwriter, blamed the defection of women voters from Mr Obama on the atom bomb of ritual abuse by left-wing bloggers and Democratic officials, painting Mrs Palin as a bad mother and religious weirdo.
Ms Noonan wrote: “The snobbery of it, the meanness of it, reminded the entire country, for the first time in a decade, what it is they don’t like about the Left.”
This is, officially, the second “worried” story I’ve seen now. But I think it’s relevant that it appears in a paper outside the US. Suppose it might be a way for people to “get word” to the Obama campaign before the US press gets wind (or bothers to pay attention) to these issues?
3) The Weekly Standard is again working on the bad political attitude. The focus this time is on Democratic / Lefty hypocrisy. Not exactly new material, but there are some worthy points here.
Let’s get this straight: Your party has just nominated for president a fellow who has been elected exactly once to the United States Senate, in an uncompetitive race, following a garden-variety stint in a state legislature. And your response to the GOP nominee’s choice for vice president–someone who has been elected once as governor following a stint as a small town mayor–is to decry the lack of experience? Nobody ever said Barack Obama was unqualified for the No. 2 spot on the ticket.
Had Hillary Clinton won the nomination and selected Obama as her running mate–which, being a savvy politician, she would certainly have done, in order to fire up his 18 million primary supporters–Obama would have been perfectly positioned. Either he would be preparing himself as vice president for his run for the Oval Office eight years hence. Or he would be experienced and tested in a national campaign that he would never be held responsible for losing, with a fundraising base beyond the imagination of Croesus. Instead, it’s McCain-Palin with the wind at their backs, and Palin who is being prepared as the outstanding future prospect for her party.
—————-Well, maybe because it is not a sign of the strength of a candidate at the top of a ticket to need the experience of Joe Biden (or Dick Cheney) in order to allay concerns that he’s not quite up to some aspects of the job. And, contrariwise, it is a sign of strength at the top when the nominee can look to the future and make a priority of party-building. Does anybody think that if Obama loses, he will have left his party in a stronger position by advancing the prospects of Joe Biden? Fortunately for Democrats, at least they’ve got Hillary in the wings.
The part I like is the idea of bringing in “new blood” to the party through the vp slot. It’s like McCain was looking to the future of his party while Obama was rewarding a long-time pol who deserved a slot. Which is the more conservative move?
4) Apparently the WaPo (link to realclearpolitics) never thought about securing a future for the party by picking a new standard bearer should the lead “man” fall. They’re still flogging the “reckless pick of John McCain” theme.
McCain made the most important command decision of his life when he chose Sarah Palin as his vice presidential nominee. Two weeks later, it is still puzzling that he selected a person who, for all her admirable qualities, is not prepared by experience or interest to be commander in chief. No promotion board in history would have made such a decision.
Yawn. This article MUST be for Obamabots. I really can’t see anyone else taking it to heart. Of course, maybe the writer will follow it up with an expose on the reckless choices of the Democratic party in their efforts to elect someone “not prepared by experience or interest to be commander in chief.”
Ah, wait! I see it! That’s it! He added “interest.” So, unless you choose to launch yourself for president, you would never have any interest. OK, someone has to be “interested” in the job. Gotcha. That would mean since Obama is “interested” he is still more qualified than a politician content to work the job she has before seeking another. Raging ambition is a GOOD thing – well, unless you’re Hillary. . .
5) Dueling Roe v. Wade articles today. The Boston Globe says it is in peril. Of course, the piece is penned by an Obama “advisor.”
It is inevitable that the principal debates between McCain and Democratic candidate Barack Obama will involve the economy and foreign policy. For most voters, the Supreme Court is simply too abstract. But we should not overlook a crucial point: The fate of Roe v. Wade, and of countless principles in constitutional law, is now hanging in the balance.
Cass Sunstein is a professor of law at Harvard Law School and an informal adviser to the Obama campaign.
Over at the National Journal, another writer thinks any overturn of Roe v. Wade isn’t at all likely and not only because it is accepted law.
Would a McCain-Palin victory spell doom for Roe v. Wade and constitutional protection of abortion rights? It’s an outside possibility, but I’d bet a lot against it.
I suspect that even McCain himself might not want Roe overruled, notwithstanding his repeated assurances to anti-abortion conservatives that he does. Indeed, in a revealing 1999 newspaper interview, McCain said: “Certainly in the short term, or even the long term, I would not support repeal of Roe v. Wade, which would then force X number of women in America to [undergo] illegal and dangerous operations.”
——————-[Despite becoming more conservative on abortion] if McCain is elected, he would not be taking his marching orders on abortion from Palin or the platform. He still supports abortion rights in cases of rape or incest. He voted last year to fund some embryonic-stem-cell research. He is well aware that a decision overruling Roe would be hugely unpopular, hurting Republican candidates at all levels for years.
Here at NQ, we have many people whose opinions on Roe v. Wade are all over the place. However, the general sense is that with a likely Democratic Congress, Roe is not in imminent danger of being completely overturned anytime soon.
6) The LA Times has a piece purporting to talk about lies and truths on the campaign trail. But all you need know about this article is in its summary. Oh, and it features a picture of that “The View” interview with McCain.
Political innocents may wonder why a candidate such as McCain, whose campaign is premised on ’straight talk’ — and to a lesser extent Obama — have veered from the truth. Because it works.
If this article was worth reading it would have included arguments about the Obama campaign as well as the McCain campaign. But it doesn’t. So, don’t bother.
7) The Philadelphia Inquirer doesn’t like Obama’s economic proposals. If your issue is the economy, give this a read and see what you think.
8 ) Need a giggle? Pat Racimora mentioned this site a month ago, but it bears mentioning again. Anyplace that says Michelle Obama is really a Klingon can’t be all bad.

Far be it from me to suggest the following as well:

Nice try Fritzie hahahaha! Still can handle the powerful Cuda!! I love it, you Obamabullies are so afraid of a woman! A woman will bring him down! Poetic justice! hahahahaha!
Sarah granted Jesse’s wish.
are you really that uninformed about how things work in government?
saw this yesterday…yawn. try again.
It’s the first fruits of the “investigative” hit squad that landed in Alaska and fanned out, looking for dirt.
Too bad for them. The nation loves Sarah and these attacks are going to sound like so much white noise to the WOMEN.
In the unintended consequences dept:
With the 0bama campaign focussing so much effort on taking out Sarah Palin, aren’t they leaving his most vulnerable flanks undefended?
They need to study some military history because I suspect there is an ambush a-comin’.
JK,
Is This It? Really?

Thanks but no thanks, I dont’ tend to believe the new york times. This is the same MSM that purposely cut palins interview to make her look like a warmonger, embarresses her teen age daughter, and steal an elction from a woman who probably could have made a difference of a corrupt chicago politician that running aroun bankrupting his own parties down ticket candidate. When they report that michelle Obama was was breaking John McCain and Obama’s campaign suspension on 9/11 I might just start reading it, but until that day please take your nazi propaganda somewhere else.
kgirl1028
I disagree with the NY Times article however- it’s out there and peopel are reading it.
Palin is being attacked unfairly.
It is wise not to ignore these attacks-or else the facts presented in these poorly written pieces will stick.
If I learned anything from the Kerry campaign and the Dukakis campaign- it is NEVER LET ATTACKS GO UNCHALLENGED.
Do not be diverted by attacks either-continue to research the facts about Sen Obama and get it out to the voters-its up to us to do this- the msm WONT do this. But- still challeneg the attack immediately and then move forward towards objective of getting the truth about Sen Obama out there.
We need to know what they are putting out there about McCain, Palin, Obama, Biden
the positive stuff as well as the negative stuff. We cant bury our heads in the sand.
meh.
They said the same thing about Hillary. About the vendettas, etc.
Obviously you have never lived in a small town. It’s almost impossible NOT to make a decision in small town politics that doesn’t come off as seeming to be a personal issue–BECAUSE EVERYONE KNOWS EVERYONE ELSE.
It works the opposite way also. I worked as a teacher in a small town. You couldn’t believe the corruption that was allowed in the school district because no one would fire the incompetents because those people were their neighbors and because they attended the same churches, community groups, etc.
Well, then, I’d say all politicians better tow the line man! I am all for it! Scared politicians in both parties? Awesome.
Go get em all Sarahcuda! This is the change we have been waiting for. Clean up in aisle washington, democrats, republicans spilled all over. bring a big bucket and mop!
I wish I had the power to clean house in government. There are very few politicians who do a good job anyway. New blood. That excites me!
I’m wondering Fritz, if you think it would be a good idea to keep a cop who tasered his 10-year old step-son on the street as a cop in Chicago. If he would taser a 10-year old kid I’m guessing he would have NO problem tasering a suspect he is questioning.
street_parade-
excellent point.
If Sarah were a guy, the article would say it was an example of strong leadership and getting things done. But female leaders can only “pursue vendettas”.
Hey JK..would that be from the NYTIMES that brought us Judith Miller and the lies and march to war ?????????
This article is featured on the front page of the Raleigh News and Observer:
This is the same great McClatchy newspaper that gave us the headline last week:
“Women Crowd the NC Ballot”
How can they be so obtuse? Can you imagine a headline “Men crowd NC ballot”?
Don’t ask about the coverage during the primary.
Obama’s in trouble in NC. ‘Nuff said.
What world do you live in? This is common practice in every corner of America and in our federal governement. Those who were appointed to their positions are replaced by apointees of the incoming official. Get real.
Nancy Reagan did the same thing and she never held any elected office. No one ever complained about it and her husband won two terms.
Gee, they managed to find 60 and none of them have names. They’re simply “officials”. Officials of what? What are their positions?
So these unnamed “officials” “impressions” of how Palin operated constitute proof?
Heck there were pictures of John Edwards and the NYT wouldn’t touch it.
Now that there’s some fine journalizing!
JKFriz:
I’m looking for teammates to join a competitive Frisbee team.
Can you hook me up?
HA HA HA! The NY Times! It has sunk so low in it’s standards, I think it’s somewhere below US Magazine at this point. The Times is desperate to bring in revenue, because newspapers are becoming extinct, so it’s competing for traffic with HuffPo and DailyKos. “The Best News That’s Fit to Print” died a long time ago.
Far be it from me to suggest the following as well:
Throughout her political career, she has pursued vendettas, fired officials who crossed her and sometimes blurred the line between government and personal grievance, according to a review of public records and interviews with 60 Republican and Democratic legislators and local officials.
Thanks for the wonderful article references. I especially want to read Ms. Long’s piece.
A kickback to yesterday and the “computer illiterate” video. Jake Tapper contacted the McCain campaign about it. Very illuminating:
http://blogs.abcnews.com/politicalpunch/2008/09/why-doesnt-mcca.html#comments
I’m glad that someone contacted the McCain campaign about Obama’s cruel and mean-spirited ad. Now, I hope the entire MSM jumps on this.
not holding my breath on that one…it would hurt “the one.”
Mccain needs to find a Rolfer and get some body work done.
New video made by someone in the group.
It’s about Gov. Palins accomplishments. It’s stunning!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jt6VzuseI30
It is a great video, something the msm should have been doing instead of trying to dig up dirt. I’ve posted the link everywhere I’ve visited today. Let’s get the truth out!
maverick-
THANK YOU VERY MUCH for forwarding this link to us.
This MUST…MUST be put out there for the public to read.
I will pass this on.
Thank you once again.
katmandu-
thank you for this link.

excellent article. Very informative.A lot to work with as we try to inform the misinformed voters .
Keep up the great work.
Thanks!
I had to comment there because it breaks my heart. I sat by the bedsides of paralyzed and dying vets. I listened to them because their own families had deserted them.
Most were resigned. Some were angry. I took it when they yelled at me because I could see the pain in their eyes.
The theme seems to be that McCain hasn’t suffered enough so he should use a computer with voice software.
I believe if he had, he’d be criticized for being elitist and not providing that system to the poor.
McCain knows how a computer functions. He knows what email and voice mail are. The fact that he limits his use makes him no less computer literate.
These people are just mean. Is this how they intend to treat vets from Iraq and Afghanistan?
If this bunch gets in power we’re all in trouble.
SHe sounds like a Rudy Guilliani who clean up New York. Throughout Obama political career he has surrounded himself with terrorists black liberation theologists, radicals and slezeballs real estate slum lords.
SHe sounds like a Rudy Guilliani who clean up New York. Throughout Obama political career he has surrounded himself with terrorists, black liberation theologists, radicals and slezeball real estate slum lords.
Thanks for the round up and the Long piece is great…
Nice try Lynette!
That’s what we call “shooting the moon” in Rook! Or “going for broke!”
There are too many women and men who will not rally to BO no matter the enticements!
The Democratic Party is in a “world of hurt” and they have EARNED it!
sassy — We Hill/Dems have been told we have no place to go–we are old hags–that we don’t exist–we are zealots–we are fools–we are in mourning. Whatever, we are here and we are not voting for Obama who finally gets it that our numbers are HUGE and after trying to trash another woman thinks he might have to make a play for us after all. Won’t work BO too little too late.
It is the Republicans who are shattering this glass ceiling and not the Democrats who have talked about women’s rights for decades but stood by while Hillary was being savaged. McCain listened to people like Lynette Long and thought of the future of the Republican Party when he picked his VP candidate. McCain knows who he is and is comfortable in his own skin–Obama is still trying to work out his relationships with his mother and grandmother.
Obama likes to make AA’s the underdog in this race but the real underdogs are women who are called upon to raise families and work for less then the average man doing the same job. To pick this fight with women who are sick to death of seeing one of their own trashed for an inexperienced incompetent man shows a man who is tone deaf to all but his own craven needs. Even Hillary says she will campaign for Obama but she doubts she will have any influence over these women. As usual Hillary has it just right.
I don’t care what they call me, as long as they ultimately call me “SPOILER.”
Nice roundup…BARKY IS DOOMED…..Chuckle….Another bag of Popcorn pleeez….NQ ROCKS !
One candidate in this race has enough confidence in himself that he doesn’t mind being upstaged by a woman. In fact he enjoys it. The other candidate makes it obvious how frightened he is by a competitive woman–As a Democratic Woman I will vote McCain/Palin and tell that misogynist Obama to kiss it where the sun don’t shine.
You said we would come back to the fold because we had no place else to go. WRONG
Mccain should respond with an ad explaining why he does not use a computer is connected to his war wounds. I think it would be very effective against Obama’s arrogance.
Also today on Bob Schiefer’s show, Debbie Wasserman Schultz went on about McCain not supporting equal pay for equal work. He does. Yet what about Obama? He doesn’t pay his own women staff equal pay for equal work- yet that was not mentioned. Hypocrite Obama.
Obama is a fraud. Can’t light a candle to the war hero.
I hope and pray America sees this.
Obama Only Talks Good Game On Gender Pay Equity
From The Seattle Post-Intelligencer
By Deroy Murdock
September 11, 2008
Compensation figures for [Obama's] legislative staff reveal that Obama pays women just 83 cents for every dollar his men make.
A watchdog group called LegiStorm posts online the salaries for Capitol Hill staffers.
Based on these calculations, Obama’s 28 male staffers divided among themselves total payroll expenditures of $1,523,120. Thus, Obama’s average male employee earned $54,397.
Obama’s 30 female employees split $1,354,580 among themselves, or $45,152, on average.
Among Obama’s five best-paid advisors, only one was a woman. Among his top 20, seven were women.
Again, on average, Obama’s female staffers earn just 83 cents for every dollar his male staffers make. This figure certainly exceeds the 77-cent threshold that Obama’s campaign website condemns. However, 83 cents do not equal $1. In spite of this 17-cent gap between Obama’s rhetoric and reality, he chose to chide GOP presidential contender John McCain on this issue.
Obama responded Aug. 31 to Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin’s Republican vice-presidential nomination. Palin “seems like a very engaging person,” Obama told voters in Toledo, Ohio. “But I’ve got to say, she’s opposed — like John McCain is — to equal pay for equal work. That doesn’t make much sense to me.”
McCain’s 17 male staffers split $916,914, thus averaging $53,936. His 25 female employees divided $1,396,958 and averaged $55,878.
On average, according to these data, women in John McCain’s office make $1.04 for every dollar a man makes. In fact, all other things being equal, a typical female staffer could earn 21 cents more per dollar paid to her male counterpart — while adding $10,726 to her annual income — by leaving Barack Obama’s office and going to work for John McCain.
Among [McCain's] top-five best-compensated staffers, three are women. Of his 20-highest-salaried employees, 13 are women.
In short, these statistics suggest that John McCain is more than fair with his female employees, while Barack Obama — at the expense of the women who work for him — quietly perpetuates the very same pay-equity divide that he loudly denounces.

Well I’ll be damned…
Let me get this straight: McCain is paying his female staff MORE than Obama’s paying his female staff? And Obama represents the party that prides itself on supporting equal rights & pay for women????
Obama – 83 cents for every dollar his male staffers make.
McCain – $1.04 for every dollar his male staffers make!!
The Democrat party needs its ass BEAT DOWN for claiming to give a damn about women! And for cheating, lying and stealing from a more qualified woman candidate to give this fraudulent, far-less qualified sexist dog the nomination! Then got the nerve to act like they give a damn about Roe vs. Wade and other women’s issues. Lying roaches!
Regarding the piece in the UK Telegraph, Barry and his camp are not listening to advice because they are hovering around with ACORN members thinking of inventive ways to cheat in the GE.
Ms. Long’s piece, very nice.
Exactly! It’s just what I was thinking!
That article on Obama’s lousy economic ideas is great.
One of the most relevant developments in American politics in the last 3 decades was Bill Clinton’s adoption of a quasi-conservative outlook on economic matters. He really was a centrist on economic, tax, and welfare policies.
It amazes me that many Democrats have chosen to go back to the 1970s by choosing Obama… It really intrigues me.
Not ‘many’ democrats — a minority of caucus-abusing vote-stealing fake dems.
oy — those who forget their history are condemned to repeat it. May Obama also be a one state wonder like McGovern. Hello Democrats? Northern Liberals don’t win general elections–and those who are trashed by Hollywood do.
The coasts are the liberal bastions which house some of the most bigoted Americans–those who look down on ordinary people in the rest of the country as low information voters. Well these people in the fly over states are the ones who grow our food and fight our wars. Perhaps in this election we will have to show once again that we are the ones who choose our presidents and those snobs on the coasts can along with Obama — eat their arugula and DEAL WITH IT.
Obama`s own hubris is what will defeat him in the end.
Have you all read this…
Obama Did Vote to Teach Sex Ed (and Much More) to Kindergartners
http://amyproctor.squarespace.com/blog/2008/9/14/obama-did-vote-to-teach-sex-ed-and-much-more-to-kindergartne.html
It has…. the course curriculum for kindergartners through 3rd grade:
amyproctor.squarespace.com/blog/2008/9/14/obama-did-vote-to-teach-sex-ed-and-much-more-to-kindergartne.html
From the Article above:
Please send that over to Fox- OMG- that sexual education teaching is the final straw that will break the religious front. If you don’t- I will!
Oh my gosh! Are they on drugs? That goes above and beyond there are good touches and bad touches. Not to talk with strangers, go with strangers. Why the hell does a five year old child need to know such explicits about sexual intercourse?
How are they even expected to comprehend it? Most children at age 5 still believe in Santa Claus for pete’s sake. They live in a magical world, taking in information, just learning to comprehend the outside world. Why do they have to have their innocence shattered at such a young age? Yes there are sick people in this world, yes children should be taught there are good touches and bad touches. They should not be exposed to this type of information at 5, not by strangers. I’m sorry, I see a lot of children that will be traumatized by this type of information at such a young age.
Well, armed with this and a few pieces of candy, the kindergarteners will be well on thier way to developing into extreme left wingers.
yeah…i am not religious at all, but…
age appropriate discussions about penis but mentioning Jesus/Buddah/whatever is innaproprizte?
The far left…so far out there that they can’t find their way back.
Has any one reconciled these fund raising numbers with actual that O’s campaign reports I know about the consolidation where McCains money goes all over to 527 RNC etc and how about down tickets are they getting money my rep isn’t this needs sunshine fast? O supposedly is pulling in 66 mil this month and I don’t buy it.
Word is he and the DNC need 100 mil a month to match the RNC…I don’t know if that is a fact or not.
Well Barry pulled in 66 million in August. They are 2/3s of the way to the august fundraising goal, there and its only half way through september. They have 11.5 months left!
jeremiah
Why isn’t he pulling in close to the 400 million he had during the primaries? What’s changed,he didn’t take public funds like McCain? It seems he’s desperate now after the nomination. What’s up?
How much of this money comes from americans and how much from foreign countries? That’s my question.
Mine too! How much comes from Palestein and other countries cough cough which is illegal money laundering.
New Minnesota poll shows the race TIED at 45-45!
Maybe the Obamabots trashing Sarah Palin as sounding like “Marge Gunderson” from the movie “Fargo”, might be coming back to bite them, ya think?
As I remember, Marge was a pretty smart cookie.
The analysis about Roe v Wade is exactly what I wrote to friend just yesterday….it’s a political tool used by both parties and neither wants to give it up. And, I think McCain is not hell-bent on wanting it to go, either.
insight — too right. Both parties take in tons of money and rev up their bases in every election by scaring people about roe v wade. Why would they lose a wedge issue like this?
Exactly. If the Republicans wanted to outlaw legal abortion they’d introduce a constitutional amendment because, Roe or no Roe, that is the only way it can be made illegal. (If Roe is overturned the question returns to the states and legal abortion will remain the law in many states.)
So ask yourself, why have the Republicans never introduced that amendment even when they held the White House and the Congress for 6 of the last 8 years? Because it would destroy their party and they know it.
BOTH parties use the issue to beat their bases into submission every few years. It’s a useful tool for both of them. For that reason the Democrats don’t want to strengthen it and the Republicans want to keep it around so they can drum up the votes of the Christian right.
Street-Parade
good points.
I cant take credit for this statement below-another blogger wrote it .
However this helps explain how -in my (athy) opinion-certain ‘questionable characters’ use this technique among well-educated, well-informed but not too intelligent voters. They especially use this technique with voters who have minimal education or facts at their disposal.
1. Use the democracy to get to the power,
2. Fail to deliver promised benefits,
3. Entice your power base to subvert democracy in order to get more power because the insufficient power is the only reason the promised benefit did not realized,
4. Get as close to totalitarism as possible because, again, the only reason community organizer (by now the great and dear leader) could not deliver on his promises is insufficient power and enemies of the people
5. Bring country to disaster
Out of all major countries that had this experience in the last century (Russia, Italy, Germany and USA) only this country managed to retain its democratic form of government even if we’ve got the president for life. Mercifully it lasted only 13 years.
The blogger continues:
I believe that due to a number of reasons Obama will never get to accomplish step 1 of the sequence, but in case he will I hope our institutional strength in freedom and democracy will prevent him from succeeding in step 3
Amen, Lynette Long. At first, when I started getting hysterical emails about Sarah Palin from women democrats I knew (SARAH SHOOTS WOLVES FROM PLANES, SARAH BANS BOOKS, SARAH HAS INVADED MY MIND AND I CAN’T GET HER OUT), I thought it was funny. Now, it’s starting to infuriate me. Most of the women from whom I’m getting these emails did not support Hillary. Now, they’re terrified of, and hate, Sarah. Just what the hell kind of woman are they waiting for? No. In my book, if you didn’t support Hillary, you don’t get to bitch about Sarah.
Exactly!
Where were most of these loser “feminists” when Hillary Clinton was being trashed?
Nowhere to be found.
Now they’re everywhere – like a bad virus – weighing in on Sarah Palin.
They need to go take a hike.
Also, with Obama questioning why a woman’s mental health should be a reason for an abortion, he’s teetering into Republican territory anyway and can’t be trusted NOT to throw women under the bus on that score, too!
A little OT, but just read over at Not Your Sweetie that MSNBO’s Chuck Todd says Obama will lose 70% of the independents – no link, but apparently he said it on MTP this morning – and they’re “discussing” it over at the big orange nuthouse – won’t link that here.
Todd is the obamamedia’s numbers guy – if he’s saying this now, I wonder how bad it really is for BO…
firefly — there are a number of top Dems who are trying to get Obama to listen to the truth about his loss of women and independent voters. He will not listen to anyone. He is in Hitler full-bunker mode and has tuned out all but the rosiest senario.
Great news, mcpalin hill!
By that I mean that not only will obama lose, but his arrogance and his “crack” know-it-all team will be the instruments of their own demise.
It doesn’t get better or more karmic than that!
McCain/Palin ‘08!
He is losing 70% of Independents and 30% of HRC supporters and anyone thinks he can win? Hello, America! Get used to saying President McCain!
I will be so happy. The dems screwed up major league and I have no respect for most of them. I would love to see some dems stand up after the election and say, I cannot support a party that doesn’t support 1/2 of it’s voters and I am going Independent. That would be awesome if a new Independent party is born out of this crap. A moderate party, where I could fit in finally!
Let’s list the groups not for Obama.70% (or more) independents.
Native Americans-all tribes.
Hispanic & Latinos
75% women
Republicans
college youth going over to Mccain
60% of the Dems
PUMAS
Blue collar
Unions
Ohio!
(please add to the list)
YES but will their not voting be enough to offset the votes of:
Dead people
dogs, kitty kats and birdies
Doodads
and citizens/not citizens/who knows just vote anyway
I ole’ Chucky say it. Everyone on the “fish” panel instantly crapped in their shorts.
He concluded by say that Obama needs to get “about” 48% of them.
I an Indie…not gonna happen.
I met a person running for city council.
he indicated he was not happy with Obama…looking at my cars bumper sticker that said “another person who is not faling for BO’s line of Crap…he said “you and I are closer than you think.”
The rank and file Dem’s at the local level are not buying it either. At least in my neck of the “wine country”.
Tks for this news. You can’t lose that many Indies and win an election.
These are the Reasons for the Puma PAC Protest of the 2008 Election
* The DNC punished the VOTERS of Florida and Michigan with DISENFRANCHISEMENT. because of the actions of their elected officials. In Florida, Democratic VOTERS WERE DISENFRANCHISEDbecause of the shenanigans of a REPUBLICAN legislature.
* The DNC CHANGED THE VOTES of 600,000 Michiganders on May 31, 2008 when it stole 4 pledged delegates from one candidate and re-pledged them to another.
* The Obama Movement PAID THE SUPERDELEGATES who endorsed Senator Obama. Crucial Super Delegates pledged their support to Obama after the Obama Movement contributed tens of thousands of dollars to them. These were Super Delegates whose constituents had voted overwhelmingly for Senator Clinton in the the primaries.
* The DNC allowed sexist bias to HANDICAP the ONLY WOMAN in the race. When Tucker Carlson said that Hillary Clinton was a CASTRATOR, the DNC WAS SILENT. When Chris Matthews said that Bill Clinton’s INFIDELITY was the ONLY REASON for Hillary Clinton’s achievements, the DNC WAS SILENT. When the MEDIA CIRCUS unleashed a sexist onslaught of criticism against Senator Clinton regarding: her laugh, her cleavage, her pants, her wrinkles, her earrings, her “bitchiness,” her emotional “instability” the DNC WAS SILENT.
* The DNC and the Obama Movement SUPPRESSED THE VOTES OF CLINTON Delegates at the National Convention in Denver. On August 27th, 2008 the DNC and the Obama Movement maneuvered an undemocratic and underhanded voting script to ensure that Hillary Clinton’s pledged delegates (and the 18 million votes they represented) HAD NO VOTE. Entire state delegations were brow-beaten into voting Present or Passing their votes to other states. August 27, 2008 is a day that will live in infamy for the Democratic National Committee.
If you are a Democrat and you are FED UP with the DNC and the Obama Movement’s tactics, JOIN US! We are Protesting the 2008 Election.

MAC HATER HAS A LOUSY ‘IMAGE’
MAG FOTOG IN DIRTY TRICK TO TURN POL ‘EVIL’
Controversial celebrity photographer Jill Greenberg, a self-professed “hard-core Dem,” deliberately took a series of unflattering shots of Republican nominee John McCain for the current cover of The Atlantic – and then bragged about it on a blog.
Visit Her Blog Here
Greenberg, known for her heavily retouched pics of apes and babies, boasted to Photo District News that she submitted photos of the Arizona senator to the mag while barely airbrushing them.
“I left his eyes red and his skin looking bad,” she boasted.
Greenberg also crowed that she had tricked McCain into standing over a strobe light placed on the floor – turning the septuagenarian’s face into a horror show of shadows.
Asking McCain to “please come over here” for a final shot, Greenberg pretended to be using a standard modeling light.
The resulting photos depict McCain as devilish, with bulging brows and washed-out skin.
“He had no idea he was being lit from below,” Greenberg said, adding that none of his entourage picked up on the light switch either. “I guess they’re not very sophisticated,” she said.
The Atlantic opted not to use the distorted McCain shot on its cover, selecting instead a more straightforward portrait.
“We stand by the picture we are running on our cover,” said Atlantic editor James Bennet. “We feel it’s a respectful portrait. We hope we’ll be judged by that picture.”
But Bennet was appalled by Greenberg saying she tried to portray McCain in an unflattering way.
“We feel totally blind-sided,” he said. “Her behavior is outrageous. Incredibly unprofessional.”
Greenberg later decided to use some of the images she was assigned to take to make a political statement.

Our media news has been useless since the 1990’s. But now, Republicans know what it’s like to get screwed over by the media—an experience formerly reserved for Democrats.

Ain’t those Liberals too cute by half? I am a lifelong Democrat but its always been my contention that the left of our party was as bad as the Ripublican right.
Keep digging Obama supporters.
They’re not sophisticated enough? Translation: They are all dumb hicks and we oh-so-smart liberals know how to trick them.
Why can’t these people learn? You don’t get votes by insulting people.
Ya know, if you’re going to do something mean and vindictave, I’m guessing it’s a bad idea to brag about it and then put it on a blog. How sophisticated is that? Stupid twank.
Well, now we all know why Andrew Sullivan is still employed by The Atlantic, huh?
They wrote a hit piece about Hillary’s campaing a while back? Did anybody read it? I’m not going to visit their website to give them the traffic, but if anybody here read it and remembers it, I’d love the confirmation that it existed….or a link to a blog that excerpted. I don’t even want my measly little “click” to boost The Atlantic’s traffic and ad revenue.
best comment, and 100% agreement from me (and I didn’t even write it!)
They did this to Hillary at the end.
I’m a semi-pro photographer, I noticed it right away!

I love your take on “interest” in #4) : yep; that would be it.
Lynette Long’s piece is very good indeed; sobering and thoughtful; I really appreciate it (whether supporting McCain or a Green candidate).
LoganHRC, wow, what a video. thank you for that.
That quote reminds me of Grand Moff Tarkin from StarWars:
“Evacuate? In our moment of triumph? I think you overestimate their chances.”
Love the sidebar! Winnie the Pooh as Obama’s national security advisor, LOL! But, on the other hand, must we malign Pooh’s good name by associating him with Obama?
Please you should have told him that he wasn’t the most qualified candidate for the job and he got it because he was black. LOL you might have been called racist, but you could smear him as a underqualifed sexist pig.
Great post. Thank you, Lisa B.
btw, Peggy Noonan has a LOT of nerve complaining about how ‘mean’ Sarah Palin has been treated when Ms. Noonan herself had the stake poised to drive into Hillary’s heart for months.
And Palin’s after that. Noonan had/has such a terrible case of CDS that she went all swoony over Obama because he beat Hillary. It was an embarrassing spectacle to see someone who obviously sees herself as quite the highbrow genius get all girl-crushy over an empty suit.
And she was caught at the GOP convention saying nasty stuff about Palin herself. I wonder if she transferred some of her Hillary hate to Palin, or if she is unable to cope with the fact that people don’t always want our politicians to come from the WSJ’s “acceptable” class.
When the super hip/super destructive wing of the Democratic Party leaves for their next 40 year exile I will return — until then I am voting with the Republicans and sanity.
I just had a co worker who was a huge obama supporter who just tole me she going to sit this election out. She seemed a little defensive when I was telling her some of the foolishness obama had been getting with over the last few days, she’s not happy about it, but lots of people just can’t bring themselves to vote for McCain because he is a republican, but i’m thirty so I belong to a disloyal ding bat generation and I wear it as a badge of honor.obama must be really getting on peoples nerve, cause some of his most loyal fans are becoming very luke warm on the issue of voting for him. Of course they still want to trash palin and McCain, but they are talking about staying home. on election day.
Good for them because anyone who still supports Obama is a political MORON.

Ok, so McCain/Palin are now ahead in the polls, with a massive 20 point shift among white women. But we all know that polls are fickle, and nothing is settled until the election. With that in mind, I have a request, particularly for any members of the loyal opposition who may be reading this.
We’re going to need you to do your part for McCain/Palin ‘08.
1.)Please keep attacking Sarah Palin’s family. Especially if you happen to be an official member of the Obama campaign. Failure to follow through on his threats to fire anyone who participates in those kinds of attacks will call into question his sincerity and resolve, allowing Republicans to have all the voters who value that kind of thing in a chief executive.
2.)Please keep mocking small towns and rural folk who know where meat comes from. We can use all their votes too.
2.5)Please continue to question Sarah Palin’s ability to “have it all” as a working mother. After you finish scorning the dreams and aspirations of working mothers around the nation, we’ll be happy to take their votes.
3.)Please make fun of her religion. We can not only use the votes of devoutly religious folks—and could you please compare your candidate to Jesus some more? Thanks!—but also of non-believers who respect Christians who spend more time living their faith than trying to force it on others.
4.)Please point out any instance in which she only halfway lived up to her ideals. This will provide us with plenty of glass-half-full talking points, and point out that Obama’s glass has always been completely full… of hot air.
5.)Please belittle her accomplishments as governor of Alaska. I will never tire of asking how many 4-way, $25 billion deals Obama has successfully negotiated between foreign nations, oil companies, state legislators, and native tribes. (And after 30 years of delays, she did it in her first term!)
6.)Please point out how stereotypically submissive and overtly feminine she is, with her red patent leather heels and her hair done up, and her… house husband? (Who quit his job to avoid a conflict of interest while Michelle Obama was getting her pay doubled, and whose employers then conveniently got a million $ earmark written for them by her husband.)
I know it’s a lot to ask, but with your help, we can keep this wave rolling all the way to the White House!

LOL breeze, that was a great list. Thanks! I did happen to catch your question to me the other night but it was hours later, I’ve patiently waited until I could catch you in a current thread. Yes I am the same person that used to comment at AW until acute CDS ruined their biased minds and negated their credibility.
After that for awhile during the primaries I hung out at TM and continued talks on esoteric subjects there. I correctly predicted and warned some people a couple months in advance that Taylor was using psy ops on her readers and would turn on us on a dime, it came to pass. I was one of the first to leave there. I also correctly predicted something would happen on Aug 5th and Aug 22nd to further damage BO, by his own hand. My next prediction for some fallout is around Sept 27th. Haven’t gotten around to studying Oct yet but will soon. These days I don’t comment very often anywhere for now, but NQ is my favorite blog and I spend the better part of my time here reading and fully appreciating the posters and commenters.
Jeremiahetc.,
You need to take a chill pill.
This is nothing new. Certainly not “BREAKINGBREAKINGBREAKING!”
Your posts are bordering on hysteria. I’d already read the article you posted in full here yesterday, on the editing of Sarah Palin’s interview….also nothing new.
These are good things to NOTE, and remark upon, but the idea that they are some new, heinous, unheard of tactics is laughable.
And a link to the story is sufficient, instead of posting entire articles as you did on the Sarah Palin interview.
We don’t need to manufacture outrage. Simple attention to well-worn tactics is sufficient.
Hi Zee.
Suck it.
You blog for obama your way and i’ll do it mine.

Great post. Thannk you.
Instead of READ MY LIPSTICK, I still like Big Dawg’s words, Barack Obama can KISS MY A–.
And BTW it looks like purple lips had to do just that. Had to swallow that huge lump in his throat and go crawling to Big Dawg for some advice on how to handle the little lady from Alaska. You go girl.(Gov. Palin) Bill probably told his arragant ass to lay off Sarah. Reason he cancelled SNL appearance.
Jeremiah is hilarious and full of fun. come on, he/she is kewl.
This was such an informative piece! Thank you LisaB.
This part especialy caught my eye:
What makes anyone think they will listen if they are elected?
VERY important to repeat!
Obama’s arrogantly tuning out help from fellow Democrats now – AND HE’S NOT EVEN THE PRESIDENT.
Guess what’s going to happen if Obama wins (or steals) this election?
Just like Bush.
This blog posts responses faster than LGF!
The Democratic Party needs to be reformed and rebuilt. I’m a Republican but we need two parties to keep us all honest and accountable. I hope you can kick out the grifters and loons and rebuild with leaders like the Clintons, Joe Lieberman, Dick Gephardt, Zell Miller, and some of the blue dog Democratic representatives recruited for 2006. I hope you can boot out Howard Dean, Pelosi, Reid, and other embarrassments like Harkin, Levin and Leahy. Let them go to the Green or Socialist Parties where they belong.
Back at ya. Clean out the corrupt radical right that infested the GOP too from your side. The Republican party is screaming to be reformed and rebuilt which is why I admire McCain and Palin. Both the Dem and Repub brands have been ruined.
At this point we need to vote out 90% of all of them from both parties and start over. Not only do women need parity in politics, but Independents need primary parity. These rules in many states that Independents can’t vote in primaries is bullshit. I fully support a viable new party of moderates, currently the sane Americans, that represent good hearted honest *average* citizens that are the foundation and bedrock of the USA.
The Republicans also have a HUGE pedophilia problem:

Speaking of Levin. He is one of the reasons the RBC kicked Hillary to the curb. For those in Michigan who see Levin on the ballot, take heed. He’s got to go. Any voters in WV who can remove Alice Germond a DNC insider and big supporter of stealing this election, please do so. She is a friend of Donkey nuts and a perpetrator of this stolen Dem Primary.
And by all means continue with the impeachment of Wexler. He failed to do the right thing. He’s another supporter culprit for stealing this Dem primary election.
The Weekly Standard’s piece sums up my sentiments to a tee.
Fortunately for Democrats, at least they’ve got Hillary in the wings.
As we can see in past GEs, the Dems are totally unforgiving when one of their own loses. They turn their backs on the loser and begin their pursuit of the next hard-left nutjob. (To lose ANOTHER GE.)
Here is how I predict it will play out:
* Oblowme loses the GE.
* The DNC turns their back on their former “superstar” and he never gets another shot at the WH.
* He goes back to his Senate position to finish serving out his lackluster, inconsequential term.
* Hillary continues to work for the good of the country, expanding her political stock on both sides of the aisle.
The only question mark in this scenario is… will the DNC regroup and grovel at the feet of the MOST QUALIFIED and beloved Democratic candidate? Will they finally “get a clue” and steer towards the middle or will they continue in their errant, sexist, elitist, stubborn ways?
Stay Tuned.

I know a lot of PUMAs like to talk about Obama as if he were a radical lefty, but I don’t quite see it that way. If Obama were a real progressive, I’m sure I’d like him better.
They call him a radical lefty when it is convenient, and too conservative the other times. They’ve called him whatever they thing the audience-of-the-moment hates.
Obama’s too far left for me, but then again, so is Hillary.
Anyone concerned about the treatment of women in the MSM lately should develop an email list of news organizations and bombard them with email. Get your friends who agree with you to do the same. You can find a list of media emails and build your own email group at: http://www.fair.org/index.php?page=111
Take action and take back the center-left and center-right from the extremists so that we can have a decent debate with people who are willing to work together to get something done.
LisaB. trends like the “huh oh” type reporting are starting to grow.
If you look at the the haggard faces of the Dem talking heads who supported Clinton, they are more than a little concerned. Frankly, Obama has but him in a box that he is providing nails for at a breakneck rate.
Obama speaks Klingon? Who knew?
Obama; “qaStaHnuq”
I sent an e-mail to Dr. Long. Here it is:
Dr. Long,
I’m sure you’re getting a lot of nasty e-mails about your piece in the Baltimore Sun, so here’s a letter of support to let you know that there are like-minded people who support you and share your point of view. Two candidates have been the victims of horrendous, unconscionable attacks this election season: Hillary Clinton and Sarah Palin. It is no coincidence that they are both women.
I will not support the Democrats with my vote, and thereby support their actions, or inaction, as the case may be in some circumstances. My vote is my voice, and I won’t cast it in favor of the terrible misdeeds of the Democratic Party and their media accomplices. Instead, I will rebuke the party and raise my vote, my voice, against their malfeasance, not necessarily for John McCain.
best regards,
Tom K.
Good email! Here was mine:
As a son, husband, and father also in Bethesda who wants to make sure there are no limits as to what my daughter can achieve in life, I thank you for writing your column.
Is anyone under the impression that McCain will pledge to appoint women to half of his cabinet?
No chance.
I mean, sure, I’m pro-McCain and all, but even I wouldn’t jump on this as a reason to vote for him. We just don’t have gender parity in the repubican party, yet. We’re working on it, but there aren’t enough women in our ranks for that kind of pledge. If you fill the cabinet to match the proportion of women in the pool, men would outnumber men more than 10 to 1.
Besides, republicans are against quotas, and we largely agree with Barak on this one. You can’t impose quotas on a cabinet.
Anyone willing to make the connection that obama’s muslim background might hold a key to his “problem” with women? Not even wackjob rush limbaugh was as nuts on Hillary as the obama supporters are on Palin.
I’m just saying: it’s really strange.
McCain or Obama–whichever is elected–should look for the best qualified people. Gender, race, etc, should not enter into their decisions, unless it comes down to a choice between equally qualified people.
It doesn’t surprise me in the least that Obama wouldn’t commit to gender parity. He shouldn’t have. I’d question the judgment of anyone who would.
