McCain’s Ugly Frogs!
By NancyA on September 16, 2008 at 9:30 PM in Arrogance, Arugula (Elitism), Barack Obama, Current Affairs, Germany, John McCain
Democrats are on defense and not playing it well, as highlighted in my recent article quoting legendary politician Willie Brown, “The Democrats Are On Defense And They Don’t Play It Well.” However, the Telegraph.co.uk calls the put-them-on-the-defense routine McCain’s “Ugly Frog”, writes Craig Crawford at CQ.
The “ugly frog” is a well-known routine that predates Karl Rove’s infamous “Rovian” tactics. Craig Crawford described the “ugly frog routine” this way:
[A] top Republican operative who specializes in electing weak candidates once explained to me how you derail a powerful foe who’s winning on issues. He called it the ugly frog routine.
Ugly frogs in this game can be anything that opposing candidates do or say that, out of context, puts them on the defense.
“Stick that frog right in their face, shake it all around, and say, ‘Here, look at this BIG UGLY FROG,’” the GOP consultant said. “Then, as they defend themselves and explain the context, real quick grab another ugly frog. Repeat often until they’ve spent most of the campaign reacting to your agenda.”
Crawford pointed out something that McCain has been very good — and consistent in exploiting this routine. McCain’s primary routine has been to point out that Barack Obama is an elitist, rock star, out-of-touch Democrat!
John McCain’s team has been playing the ugly frog routine against Barack Obama almost daily, starting with the Paris Hilton celebrity advertisement, forcing the Democrats to react to a barrage of silly attacks.
Do you remember this?
Craig asked the “dark operative” how to combat the routine:
“Get your own frogs,” he said. “Stay off defense.”
Whether it is the ugly frog routine or getting Obama’s “achille’s heel,” as I call it, McCain has it over Obama. McCain’s tactics are keeping Obama off his game, not knowing where to find his own “ugly frogs”. Obama scrambled to find his own “ugly frog” but came up with one that back-fired:
This ad drew strong criticism of Obama, as Uppity Woman pointed out in “Obama Makes Fun of McCain’s Disabilities in Ad.”
Well, Obama’s first “ugly frog” died. I guess he will have to try again, if he can just find another one!

i guess that means that barko can “take it on a hop”…
Obama should add another mantra to his never ending bag of bullshit:
Everytime Obama opens his mouth, an angel clips their wings.
I earnestly wish Obama to fail. I’m worried about the national poll numbers but pleased with the state polls. Stupid Nobama is full of evil. I have never seen someone so diabolical. I hope Barbara Streisand’s nose knocks Obama in the face. Maybe then he will realize that he is an unqualified jerk who shouldn’t be running for the most important job in the world. I doubt it, Babs keeps that thing under wraps but I can hope.
P.S. I need reassurance. O’Reilly has gone all soft on NOBAMA and Colmes is getting that Matthews look. I think O’Reilly might even be getting it too. The one journalist I trusted is now in the “limo”.
Clarification. That journalist was O’Reilly not Colmes. Colmes is a disgusting Skeletore-in-the-making DNC bumboy.
it’s the state poll numbers that count – hope you feel better now…
It’s true about O’Reilly. He seems to have a crush on BO. Lame.
birds of a feather…
O’R has a strange sex life to say the least as we all know.
I think what O’Rielly is doing is trying to win the respect and affection of Obama supporters and undecided independents… and when Oct. rolls around and/or McCain needs a hand then O’Rielly will punch Obama where it hurts and do some real damage.
O’Reilly is a narcissistic sociopath – just like Obama. They have no core beliefs and go with whatever is getting them the most attention and power. I was laughing today when O’Reilly was bragging about his ratings. He does that A LOT. That’s all he cares about.
That Hillary was able to hold her own against this creep makes me proud.
I think that he does it to rub it in the face of Olberman. They have or had an ongoing vendetta/rivalry!!!!
Another bird of the same feather – Olberman. I am not at all deceived that he seems to be on the opposite side of O’Reilly. They are much more alike than different.
Just to name a couple of O’Reilly’s recent examples that he is a creep.
“never apologize – it makes you seem weak.”
“I don’t have any buddies.”
I loved when he was talking to Obama about “wealth redistribution”. He really has his funny moments. Actually, I really liked that interview.
No way. He’s all goo goo ga ga over Obama. O’Reilly wants desperately to be liked. He is a big baby who cries for attention, and he got it from Obama. Dumb move on his part going easy on Barry Queen of Snots. He only shrank his audience.
‘Hope Floats! Flush Twice!’ has got to be the coolest handle ever!
I think Fox gave O’Reilly to Obama, temporarily while Greta goes all the way for McCain and specially Palin. Greta requested a woman for VP during the Dem convention to Fiorina. If Greta goes OJ, I think O’Reilly will go back to McCain. Is a question of fair and balance. Except O’Reilly do not have the credibility that Greta brings with her. So McCain gains as a net effect.
I wish other networks would be doing something similar as Fox. But they don’t. They simply are relentlessly against the McCain/Palin ticket, all day long, every day of the week.
Okay first of all, I watch Fox every night the way a friend of mine watches the Soaps. So, let me run it down for ya, For the entire Primary season O’Reilly had easy access to the GOP candidates, and he invited Hillary and Barack to guest on the Factor every week, in fact, in a flip on Olbermann’s countdown, O’Reilly counted how many days it had been since Obama had agreed to come to Fox…so, as we PUMA’s remember well, Hillary was facing extreme bias against her in the MSM, so she took Bill up on his offer, made a strategic move, against the wishes of the DNC, who were terrified at what O’Reilly and Clinton might do without them not having a newsperson who was on their payout doing the interview. It was a great interview that was aired on two consecutive nights. It was a huge success for Hillary, and O’Reilly proved he could be fair and balanced. Again, he started with the mantra “Why won’t Obama do the Factor”? O’Reilly argued that Obama was getting bad advice from those around him because he, Bill O’Reilly has the most watched show in his time slot and he could open doors to a whole new audience that BO might not otherwise reach.
Okay, months go by and no Obama, Fox and all the MSM awaited the Conventions, Obama assumed he would bury McCain by September 1st, and instead he turned the acceptance speech into a joke and made himself look ridiculous, especially to the large pool of Fox viewers. Obama did not get the 15 point bounce he anticipated and the day after the speech McCain unleashed Sarah Palin on him. Obama was severely wounded with that blow, so in hopes of usurping McCain on his most important day, he calls Fox (his people did), and asks if O’Reilly wants to interview him…on the night of McCain’s speech…Bill got the last laugh by doing the interview strictly on his terms, he broke it up into four 15 minute interviews and spread it out over four nights, so draw your own conclusions. I see O’Reilly as a McCain supporter, absolutely no doubt in my mind, Sean Hannity has it much easier than Bill because Sean gets to openly criticize Obama, and he has sole ownership in all of televised MSM, of being the one to break the Wright story, he broke the Ayers story, the BAIPA vote, and many other things, as the Right side of a Liberal/Conservative team he never has to give the appearance of impartiality, O’Reilly does have to, and like newsmen of yesteryear he does a pretty good job of being fair. Can a Conservative Commentator conduct an impartial interview with an extremely Liberal Candidate whom he has well known idealogical differences with and still relate to that person cordially? You bet. Obama is likeable enough, and it is hard to be mean to someone who so obviously craves your approval, BO practically asks Bill, “why don’t you like me?” So, as two men who disagree fundamentally, they just kind of end the hour giving the viewer a sense that they could sit down and drink a beer together if they met casually in a bar, they might trade stories and say “nice to meet ya” and go seperate ways. make no mistake, they will never be friends…never.
nice summation… i agree!
Good analysis and thank you. However:
You. Gotta. Be. Kidding. Obama gives people shivers up their spines because he’s so obviously a SNAKE.
Good review. I watch Fox daily at all times of the day and I agree with your synopsis. However, I took offense to Bill’s dig last night about the bloggers on the internet who report on anti-Obama sites. Re the bc controversy and others, he said not to pay attention to the internet “kooks”. These have all been debunked in his opinion. Maybe so, but he needs to pay attention to the very true, very good and very researched info that we have here on sites like this one. I resent the fact that he dismisses all of us so arrogantly even though this is his mo. He should have his staff pay closer attention to what is presented by the more rational bloggers out here.
Keep in mind that there are quite a few white middle-class and lower middle-class white voters that might be telling the pollsters that they intend to vote for Obama or that they’re undecided but who really intend to vote for McCain.
So, if the national polls are showing McCain 1 or 2 points ahead, my suspicion is that he’s actually about 4 or 5 points ahead.
And why would they be doing this?
My opinion is that it is a form of ‘white guilt’, that crops up when asked by a reporter, pollster, etc. whether you are going to vote for the ‘black’ person or the ‘white’ person. Put on the spot, they say they’ll vote for the black candidate. Then maybe they won’t actually vote for that candidate in the privacy of the voting booth. The phenomenon has been observed in a few races with a black candidate, where polls didn’t match the final outcome. Whether it is real, and more importantly, whether it will pertain in this case is the big question. With all the stories about how you’ll be racist if you vote against Obama, maybe it will actually increase the influence of this phenomenon.
Obama wouldn’t need an ugly frog if he were an actual Democrat who ran as an actual Democrat on actual Democratic issues. Because he isn’t and he won’t, he’s stuck with lying, whining, namecalling, and personal insults.
Sucks to be him. Or anyone else. Thanks Barfy!
I agree. He’s not running on Democratic issues. He’s running on his biography.
True. The 8 years of W is the biggest ugliest Kermit ever.
that is what i have been trying to explain to JM08. I am guessing an ugly frog will be hoisted on obama in a day or 2.
McCain went after him pretty hard today in the rally in Ohio with palin.
I also just watched CNN and they fact checked 4 of obama’s ltest ads, and they were LIES. AND CNN actually said they were.
CNN ADMITTED BO lied?!! Who let that slip by?? Wolfe & Co. will be upset.
I won’t believe it until I see it.
Same here. I’ll drink champagne through a straw if it’s true but I want proof!
OMG! what will jack cafferty have to say to that?
is it me, or is he… gosh, words escape me…
That Ohio rally is what McCain should be saying in ads in all battleground states. He went after Obama good.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XZqn2nog_S8
Yes, more Ohio rally jabs. Also, McCain needs to talk about his co-sponsorship of the 2005 proposal to reign in Freddie and Fannie. He warned in a speech supporting that legislation that Freddie and Fannie if not reigned in could cause serious harm to the US economy. He was right. Author of the bill was Chuck Hagel. It would be great if Hagel would step forward on this. I have come to the conclusion that the talking heads do not follow all this stuff themselves. They rely on feeds from their research clerks so they only get what they are fed and the heads do not have a clue beyond that point. They are not journalists/researchers, they are teleprompter readers.
It must be so. They are so out of touch.
jangles, can you send a copy of the speech to Fox? Hannity, O’Reilly, Greta……even MSNBC and see what they do with it?
I heard McCain on the radio today speaking at another rally. He sounded good. It sounded like he was speaking off the cuff as he was in this video, going from a very perfunctory list of points that he wanted to cover. His pacing was much brisker than when he speaks using a teleprompter, and he had passion in his voice.
wow, wow, wow! More of that please!
Oh that is so good!
Wow! This is great. I definitely agree – in fact, I think McCain should stop running the same old negative ads and run things like this, i.e. straight talk. When people see the authentic McCain, they really like him. I know a lot of people credit his post-convention bump to Sarah Palin, but everybody who watched his acceptance speech was blown away with how real he was. Take the high road, shelve the negative ads, and show the real McCain. Obama will look like a little spoiled kid by comparison.
Wouldnt it be funny if the people running the Siena poll in ny were actually obama supporters who purposely made it look close, so that they could trick mccain into thinking he had a chance there, so mccain would waste valuable money in a state where all the other polls have obama way ahead, and history tells us that ny is overwhelmingly reliably blue
You do know both campaigns make use of internal polling, right?
Obama is the one who needs to worry about where he should spend his finite resources of money and time.
Biden is less than inspirational, which means Barry needs to appear in front of more voters himself; and he also needs to continue to fundraise himself.
That’s the way Obama likes it – he chose Biden because he doesn’t want to have to share the limelight. What he DOES like is attack dogs out in front who are disposable.
McCain doesn’t have to waste money on the NY market. He is addressing Bill Clinton’s Global Initiative, and Sarah Palin and Hillary Clinton will be giving speeches across from the UN protesting Ahmadenihad’s visit. McCain and Palin will be attending the UN where she will meet world leaders and be briefed in foreign policy. And if polls tighten in NY, McCain may well be in a position to make Obama buy ads there.
Smart move having Palin talk tough against ‘I’m-a-dinner-jacket’ (sorry, it’s the only way I can pronounce his name). Good for the Jewish vote in NY, NJ and FL and giving her some foreign policy cred. She’ll look tough and BO will look weak since all he wants to do is have tea with ‘I’m-a-dinner-jacket’.
Sadly, Hillary canceled, saying she was blindsided when the organizers didn’t tell her that Sarah Palin would be in attendance. Can they invite Geraldine Ferraro… no, she was maneuvered into helping 0bama. Too bad.
I just read that, too. She said she was “blindsided.” I was very disappointed.
It would be turned into a media “catfight” moment if those two women were together, whatever they had to say.
That I would love. How much money has that pissant wasted by now?
McCain is much smarter than Obama, and so are his advisors. I imagine McCain has never even considered NY at all. I also don’t think he is putting his eggs anywhere near that basket. He is going where he will win, can win, and could possibly win with a little work. Hopey, changey, “I transcend the red/blue map” boy is the one who is delusional enough that he probably believes he’ll win Alaska.
sellouts:
http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/hillarys-women-reject-mccains-vp-choice-933050.html
who do they think they are? they are lost.
The problem with that is that NOW is not “hillary’s women.” I am a Hillary woman for Palin. So there.
NOW is now a twisted branch of the DNC. It’s run by elitists, I think.
All these left wing feminists apparently hate women.
These are the same feminists who complain about how young women are exploited and depicted in our society. Well, they helped create that IMO. Their “liberalness” has transformed into an illusion to young women that it is socially acceptable to dress and behave in sexualized ways…
I grew up around some of these women, some of their daughters (school mates of mine) posed for Playboy Magazine and they would bring the magazines to bridal showers and show off their beautiful daughters. The human body is so beautiful…
From “Girls Gone Wild”, to the Obama Girl, the decline in self respect for girls , all can be linked in some way to this permissiveness and open mindedness about sexuality. The lines of healthy sexuality and relationships become blurred for young people. What message are they getting?
what a stupid comment!!!
I received an e-mail from President Clinton today asking me to support Obama. I sent an e-mail back saying that I supported Hillary during the primaries and will continue to support her in everything she does in the future. I also told him that because of what occurred during the primaries (the stealing of Hillary’s delegates, superdelegates, the Michigan and Florida debacle, the horrible treatment of her by the DNC, the media, etc. and the treatment he received from our Party, that I would not be supporting nor voting for Barack.
carol — Those e-mails are probably being generated by the Obama Campaign.
True. But they’re still getting a message.
Exactly – I pulled my NOW membership quite awhile ago – they don’t represent me. I think for myself.
I urged them (the National NOW PAC) not to do this as I am an officer in a state chapter, but they didn’t listen. I am hugely disappointed in this endorsement and the convenient memory of those who voted to endorse this Fraud. Many of us remember the Anita Hill hearings and Biden’s part in it, and The One supports none of NOW’s priorities. For me, “this is a day that will live in infamy.”
Yea, like a UK paper knows all about us HRC supporters! LOL! I am one of these mysterious HRC supporters who will never ever support BO.
Get over it.
Unfortunately this story is getting legs in the international media where it’s being picked up by a horde of typically lazy journalists who never learned how to research.
‘Repeat a lie often enough and ultimately it becomes true.’
Sad that even the UK newspapers are printing the smears as fact. NOW has last all credibility with me and I suspect with a lot of women. Add me to the list of Hillary supporters that have moved to McCain/Palin.
Why don’t you ever see the headline ‘Psychic Wins Lottery’?
I don’t know about the others, but my method is to have someone else buy the ticket. Then we split the winnings.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uk_fPi-24Iw
Brilliant. Bloody brilliant!
I knew you’d say that!
If I owned the salt lake tribune, I would put out a poll saying that mccain was only up by 3 points.
The bots would go crazy, and the kool aid would be flowing, and maybe obama would take some of that colorado ad money and put it in utah.
I discovered this vlog from Sgt Freedom. I think you will like this as he seems to question Obama’s patriotism very, very well.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S-mQKaQrdWM
The patriotism angle doesn’t work so well, because Republicans ALWAYS say the Democrat running for President is unpatriotic—so people just ignore it.
In case you hadn’t noticed, Republicans say the same things about every single Democrat who runs for President. Republicans don’t have a creative bone in their bodies.
Doesn’t mean it’s not true of the flag pin denouncing, National Anthem hating, terroist appeasing, bomb the capitol friend having, treasonous, America hating wife and pastor having Barry Soetoro.
I don’t think the average person who is aware of these things would ignore it.
I agree that the accusation of being unpatriotic has legs with Obama. But since Republicans have proven themselves willing to smear any and all Democrats who run for President–including a Viet Nam War hero (John Kerry)–only a fool or a madman would listen to them now.
If Hillary were the nominee, the Republicans would be telling you how unpatriotic she is every day of the week.
Yeah, and it usually works because there is a perceived element of truth in the accusation. This go ’round, we have images of Obama refusing to put his hand over his heart while standing on stage with Hillary during the pledge of allegiance, his videotaped explanation of why he wouldn’t wear a flag lapel pin after 9/11, and the infamous film clip of his pastor for 20 years screaming “God damn America!!!”
Trust me, the “unpatriotic” line of attack will work against Obama better than it’s worked against any Democrat in a long time.
>The patriotism angle doesn’t work so well, because Republicans >ALWAYS say the Democrat running for President is unpatriotic—so >people just ignore it.
So true. Right up until it’s time to vote.
>In case you hadn’t noticed, Republicans say the same things about >every single Democrat who runs for President.
Dems have earned it. Or why isn’t the shoe on the other foot? Why? And every election, why do socialists, communists, and America-haters support Democrats? (Me too, but not THIS time! F Obama.)
>Republicans don’t have a creative bone in their bodies.
Perry, you are very creative, and I think you will become a Republican before you cash in your spit-flecked chips. Your tombstone will be made of recycled Perry Logan microphones and the Perry Logan paperback library (sorry, no one wanted it) and the inscription will read “Here lies Perry Logan, the biggest Republican of all. Eat dirt, Rush!”
I promise to visit your grave.
Pumapurr – tell it like it is!
Guys…it’s not MY fault Republicans are serial liars!
Perry, I love your show. You are an inspiration to all PUMAs.
I get a little vitriolic because the reaction I get on blogs is so often that it’s not enough to have been a lifelong Dem. It’s not enough to loathe what Obama did to democracy and Hillary. No. I must also HATE republicans. All republicans! Always! Or else be labeled a Republican shill and a Karl Rove plant. That gets irritating. I don’t hate them. I just tend to vote the other side. But I’ll have no problem crossing over this November.
McCain ‘08!
Hillary ‘12!
Logan ‘16!
now now Perry, let’s don’t get carried away.
outstanding!
That guy is just brilliant. I didn’t think I’d last 8 minutes with his ‘high-gain’ delivery but it was so refreshing, so much fun. He’s good! Thanks!
We could start throwing the lies he used to win the far-left support and beat Senator Clinton back at him:
Title: Obama Statement on Possible Pause of Iraq Troop Reductions

Obama Statement on Possible Pause of Iraq Troop Reductions
Senator Barack Obama issued the following statement in response to Secretary Gates’ comments on pausing troop reductions.
“I strongly disagree with the Administration’s plans to “pause” the long overdue removal of our combat brigades from Iraq. We cannot wage war without end in Iraq while ignoring mounting costs to our troops and their families, our security and our economy. While the Administration puts our drawdown on permanent pause, bin Laden is on the loose, Afghanistan is sliding toward chaos, and we’re spending billions of dollars a week in Baghdad instead of helping Americans who are struggling here at home. Our military leaders are concerned that Iraq is setting back our ability to respond to other priorities, and a Blue Ribbon Panel warned late last month that our National Guard is short of the equipment it needs to address crises at home. Instead of false promises and a faulty strategy, the American people need a rapid and responsible removal of our combat brigades that relieves the burden on our military, pressures the Iraqis to reconcile, and allows us to finally focus on the priorities that George Bush has neglected.”

Or this one:
Title: Obama Statement on FISA
Date: 02/12/2008
Location: Washington, DC
Press Release
Obama Statement on FISA
U.S. Senator Barack Obama (D-IL) today released the following statement on the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA). Earlier today, Senator Obama voted in favor of the Dodd-Feingold amendment to repeal retroactive immunity for telecommunications companies (S. Amdt. 3907). He also supported other amendments to improve the bill, including the Feingold-Webb-Tester amendment to protect Americans from unwarranted surveillance (S. Amdt. 3979), and the Feingold amendment to protect Americans from the bulk collection of communications (S. Amdt. 3912).
“I am proud to stand with Senator Dodd, Senator Feingold and a grassroots movement of Americans who are refusing to let President Bush put protections for special interests ahead of our security and our liberty. There is no reason why telephone companies should be given blanket immunity to cover violations of the rights of the American people – we must reaffirm that no one in this country is above the law.
“We can give our intelligence and law enforcement community the powers they need to track down and take out terrorists without undermining our commitment to the rule of law, or our basic rights and liberties. That is why I am proud to cosponsor several amendments that protect our privacy while making sure we have the power to track down and take out terrorists.
“This Administration continues to use a politics of fear to advance a political agenda. It is time for this politics of fear to end. We are trying to protect the American people, not special interests like the telecommunications industry. We are trying to ensure that we don’t sacrifice our liberty in pursuit of security, and it is past time for the Administration to join us in that effort.”

And of course there is so much more to find. For people who claim to know so much more about technology, his supporters sure don’t do much research. Over on his site they are lauding the speech today as if it were a Full Gospel Revival rather than a serious political blog. I try to point a few things out one time and get banned from posting, so, I change my name and post a few more and people complain about the negativity and go to bed. Guess they have a hard time clicking on links.

Read statements Senator Obama made in this general time period.
ivet…
Excellent idea.
Hope you dont mind if I cross post some of your research.
Nancy-good article. Thanks for helping us to make sense with respects to what tactic is being used in this war of words and propaganda. I had never heard of the ‘ugly frog’ routine till today. Thanks again.
He takes credit for bills he didn’t help craft or even vote on? How could he flip-flop on FISA? How could he? Why haven’t the MSM taken him to task over this?
so, how can we trust HIM??? I dont, I will not give my vote to someone who will change the whole primaries promises the way He does. I dont trust HIM, and this is all…
Here’s a really important followup link at Vote Smart.
Obama’s Words (to compare with voting record haha)
It has happened before.
Let’s give Hillary a red country this year so she can say “I told you idiots so!” and then go on to rebuild the DNC in the image of the common people of this nation instead of the nutballs and moonbats.
It can be done be winning credibility. Dems have lost it. Hillary had it because she knew what she was talking about. But Hillary’s campaign managers were not that up to the task. Something went wrong. Hillary needs to get better people next time to run her campaign.
As late as January/February this year Hill was still in the lead and polls had her as the favourite candidate. And although everyone knew Super Tuesday would be closer than expected she still came out on top.
Then things fell apart. She had no money left, Obama rolled into 10 insignificant states and built up this illusion of the ‘big MO’, and that’s how it goes. Hill’s former campaign manager who ruined the campaign finances and strategy works for Axelrod today. She’s a longtime resident of Chicago.
I’m not pointing a finger directly at her but I am saying you should look in her direction.
Exactimundo. THAT is THE single best thing that could happen to the Democratic Party at this point in time. Your party needs an enema to expel all of the far left fruitloops and snot-nosed elitists that have taken it over.
Do you think it will be that easy to week the crooks out of the party?
“Well, Obama’s first “ugly frog” died. I guess he will have to try again, if he can just find another one!”
Can he find enough enough of them in the next seven weeks?
I’m not completely buying the “ugly frog” tactic since it seems to use petty, misleading accusations to keep an opponent off-balance. In Senator Obama’s case, there’s an embarrassment of riches–all factually accurate–to highlight how unqualified he is for the office of President.
The ugly frog analogy is pretty stupid in this case. One reason being that McCain doesn’t need to lie and another reason is that Obama has ran away from the issues since day 1 and has also lied at ever turn concerning those issues. Obama doesn’t have or own any position in this election. Not one single issue. He is a complete and utter fraud of a candidate.
In Senator Obama’s case, there’s an embarrassment of riches–all factually accurate–to highlight how unqualified he is for the office of President.
Definitely.
How about his wife? To me she looks like a frog. And she sure is ugly!
True but they’re still ugly frogs. I’m reminded of that scene in Sweet Thursday by John Steinbeck.
Imo, all McCain and Palin need to do now is not screw up in the next 50 days.
Obama has no real strategy to win this election. Aside from “change”, he’s got no coherent message. He fumble the debates just like he fumbled all the Dem debates.
Call me cynical but Dick Morris had it just right about Obama (few days ago on O’Reilly) – Obama is a professor while McCain is a leader – in terms of their debate styles. Obama needs more than a few minutes to get his point across – which just isn’t effective in politics.
I’ve seen Palin’s debates during the Gov campaign in Alaska – she looked very calm, confident and assertive. The only way I see Biden winning the debate is if Palin falls victim to a “gotcha moment”.
For the GOP: Keep campaigning in battleground states and take advantage of Cindy and Todd – ordinary people can relate to them better than they can bitter Michelle Obama.
Precisely. Carry the vase down the corridor as Blair’s aides once told him.
The Obama thugs are trying to get Palin impeached. That is their October surprise. This the politics of Hope Obama styled.
Impeached as what? Governor of the state where citizens get huge dividend checks? Governor who has 80 +% approval ratings. Where the governor’s husband is known as the First Dude? That “Palin is scary” bugaboo is pure bunk. No one’s buying it except those who read the NYT.
Actual quotes from ’scary’ Sarah from a feminist / pro-woman blog. Make your own decision, but this is in Palin’s own words. I don’t agree with her stance on abortion, but I agree with all the rest…and quite frankly, I like her.
http://www.reclusiveleftist.com/2008/09/15/sarah-palin-and-feminism/
Wow, I wish those quotes would get some ‘play’.
Well, if that’s their plan, then it just recived a big setback. The Alaska Attorney General has just ruled that Alaska state employees will refuse to honor subpoenas in connection with “Troopergate”. He says that the witnesses will refuse to appear unless the entire state legislature votes to compell them to testify. The investigation was initiated by a Democrat who oversees the Alaska state legislature’s judiciary committee.
That’s great and gee whiz am I surprised Democrats are behind this. And where is Wooten right now? Getting drunk at a bar and tasering kids again?
lark I am so disgusted. They are trying to make a case out this crap with the state trooper. He is not going along but his superior is. What bastards they are. They want to get her impeached. Top Republican lawyers are going up to Alaska to try to have the case thrown out.
mcpalin hill-
we need to make some more noise about Sen Obama issues that are being overlooked by the main stream media and the DNC.
Trooper gate versus:

Obama Sued in Philadelphia Federal Court (Constitutionally Ineligible for the Presidency)

A prominent Philadelphia attorney and Hillary Clinton supporter filed suit this afternoon in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania against Illinois Sen. Barack Obama and the Democratic National Committee. The action seeks an injunction preventing the senator from continuing his candidacy and a court order enjoining the DNC from nominating him next week, all on grounds that Sen. Obama is constitutionally ineligible to run for and hold the office of President of the United States.
Phillip Berg, the filing attorney, is a former gubernatorial and senatorial candidate, former chair of the Democratic Party in Montgomery (PA) County, former member of the Democratic State Committee, and former Deputy Attorney General of Pennsylvania. According to Berg, he filed the suit–just days before the DNC is to hold its nominating convention in Denver–for the health of the Democratic Party.
“I filed this action at this time,” Berg stated, “to avoid the obvious problems that will occur when the Republican Party raises these issues after Obama is nominated
3- Rezko Gate?
http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/chi-tony-rezko-sentence-delay-webaug21,0,7342747.story
Rezko’s sentencing date has now been pushed back to at least October 28, 2008, which is less than a week before the November 4, 2008, General Election.
Additionally, “Rezko’s attorneys, led by Joseph Duffy, now have until Sept. 19 to file motions,” Coen wrote.
The power (and memory) of a verdict in early September would have had some time to dissipate by the end of October. A verdict at the end of October will continue to roll and tumble in the media spin cycle right up to the very day when voters step into the voting booth. Add to this the possibility of numerous motions reported by the Chicago press, things look to be getting interesting.
Tony Rezko will not be forgotten quickly enough for Obama.

That’s alot of big ugly frogs.
Yeah. Big ugly frogs – FUGLY frogs.
Well they are airing The Great One’s infanticide’s vote. Great Ad. I saw it twice on Fox today. And they are questioning his vote for the sex education bill for Kindergarteners. I can’t believe the B.S. about how he really didn’t vote for teaching sex education to K, but it was to teach them about inappropriate touching only.
inappropriate touching??!?? Someone needs to engineer a big earthquake ASAP.
I don’t think it’ll happen. Alaskan’s are not stupid. They are exited they have their governor running for VP. The whole case will be dismissed pretty soon in the court of public opinion. It is a vendetta and the motives are quite transparent. Alaskans will not stand for such conniving.
It will never work. They have no case.
The guy had numerous violations, and there was nothing to suggest the Chief of police being fired for running an irresponsible budget was actually fired for a personal vendetta. The union guys are trying to make something out of this, but they won’t.
not to worry… palin is good-to-go on this ‘troopergate’ thing.
OT: Any news on the MA primary yet…Kerry/O’Reilly??? Nothing on the Internet yet.
Unfortunately, O’Reilly lost
http://www.politickerma.com/jeremyjacobs/1182/kerry-beats-o-reilly
Damn, damn, damn…I was so hoping Kerry would lose. Thanks for letting me know.
If you live in Massachusetts, you might want to let him know what a great job you think he is doing and ask him some questions.
That is unless he once again substitutes talk for action and doesnt actually travel the state talking to the little people.
I mean saying it is just about the same as doing it, right?
“Over the next two month(sic), when I’m not doing the job I was elected to do down in Washington, I will travel across Massachusetts so I can talk one-on-on with the people of the commonwealth,” Kerry said. “And most importantly, so I can listen to your concerns and answer your questions.” – John Kerry
Those MA people fucked up.
I hated to hear that Kerry won too. I think it was voter apathy; people not coming out to vote. Now this is the danger to McCain/Palin. If the voter turn out is low, Obama wins. With the msm in the tank for Obama, the American public has no idea how crucial this election is. I know, because in my small county only a few of us with time to surf the net have any idea what’s at stake. I do my best, but I don’t think it’s going to be enough. Oh, my state will go red, but in the swing states there will be a problem.
Actually 30% went for Orielly. That is not good considering the arsenal Kerry has. For a virtual unknown to win so much of a vote that is usually locked in is a sign.
andy — Rasmussen and Zogby were on Hannity’s radio show today. McCain is leading in Ohio, Florida, Nevada, New Mexico, Va., Pa and tied in Michigan.
Does anybody have a kos account ? I would post there myself, but I am banned after giving the bots hell.
I have a idea …
Somebody needs to post the following on kos.
HUGE MORMON BACKLASH AGAINST MCCAIN IN UTAH. Utah voters are very angry that MCcAIN passed over mormon Mitt Romney for vp, and now the state is tied according to internal polling done by local republicans.
Then ask for a moneybomb for the utah democratic party.
The bots want to believe so badly that they will eat that up. And my guess is that we could probably get the bots to throw away at least 20,000 of money that would otherwise go to obama LOL
Not a good idea. He doesn’t need this low brow stuff. (Sorry, no offense meant.)
Oh look its JM08 the concern troll. is anyone falling for this guy?
Not so much.
you do it.
Not all Mormons are against McCain, and Media is spreading their dirty rumors, just to undermine McCain and Palin voters. Just chill out and relax!!!
Media is to powerfull, this must change…
I see ads all over the place for work locally and clear across to the other side of the country, advertising for “community” and “political” work to bring “change” this electoral year. Noticed that the ads are from and for work in low income cities with 30% AA and Hispanic communities. Seems the Howard Dean grassroots paradigm at work, but why only in low income cities with these demographics? Seems they are preying on the less fortunate. If they were really about change, they would have targeted these areas long ago to empower them, and not just use them now for their electoral purpose.
Bingo! That is the scam, much like Rev. Wright enjoying his gated community via his congregation’s donations through encouraging a festering victim mentality. As long as they are down and out and ticked off about it at the powers that be rely on their ready trough of cash and support. I know…I was a female dem all these years per the roe v. wade threat. The scales have fallen from my eyes! (sorry, couldn’t resist!)
BREAKING!
BREAKING!
Prominent Hillraiser, Lynn Forester de Rothschild, endorses McCain!
Love this lady.
I thought it was only a matter of time! Ha ha! She ought to organize a fundraiser for McCain and Palin while they’re in NY.
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2084014/posts
She’s pretty cool.
Portfolio: An interview with Lady de Rothschild
McCain’s high road is the best strategy for now. He’s used it to fantastic effect so far. Remember the night of Obama’s acceptance speech? How classy, yet there was a smile and the twinkle in his eye when he said during the ad, “We’ll be back at it tomorrow.”
The only ad McCain has run that gained him nothing and left a sour taste amongst undecideds/independants/pumas was the kindergarten sex ed ad. It WAS just misleading enough. He’s got the base, no need to pander to them, plus…I believe the base understands the landscape too. He doesn’t need that to win and it will cut against him.
This election IS a different paradigm from two old white dudes battling for the presidency. The old paradigm holds only so far. McCain, I believe, understands this and I submit as evidence his pick of Palin and the exquisite timing of that announcement. Whomever amongst his advisors saw the profound game changer of that move have the right instincts to steer this campaign to victory. (I never thought it would happen but I know I thought it would be a great move, though in truth I didn’t realize it would be THIS great a move!) McCain peeps, if you’re lurking, don’t go old school! (Not yet at least and I truly suspect, not at all!)
The only thing misleading about that kindergarten / sex ed was calling it an “accomplishment.” The bill never pased. Otherwise, it was factual and smart. It made Obama and his media surrogates complain about how mean McCain was and spend a week denying it. Anyone with a laptop and a fifth grade education could google it and find out it’s true. Byron York wrote a piece for the NRO on it.
so far 20% od undesided are swithing to McCain, not counting Middle Class, poor, and woman!!! this will be revolution against Obama!!!
Just think if Hillary had been the rightful nominee against McCain. I don’t think we would be seeing all the vitriol that is coming from Obama Nation. it would be an intelligent discourse between two intelligent people.
Unfortunately, the media, the Republican smear machine, and the “progressive” blogs would be having their nonstop misogyny-fest. The same will hold true if Hillary runs in 2012.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uk_fPi-24Iw
Yeap. Townhall meetings, the works. The health care system would be revamped as much as the Wall Street system will. The problem we have (we the little people) is that while Wall Street gets all the attention, health care goes down the tubes. The reason, Oblahblah can care less about health care. If Hillary was running, she would not allowed health care to be trumped by no Wall Street.
Carol its sickening the way the man who offered Hope his now the dirtiest campaigner in history.
Agreed.
Absolutely. The country would have come together.
JM08, those tactics will not work. Also, campaigns have their own pollsters that do numbers for them. They go by their own numbers not by the media’s
Ugly frog routine. lol.
I think the entire set of IP addresses from my ISP is banned from DailyKos because of me. They do not like it when you do research and post it. Just like the Obama campaign website keeps locking my account and deleting my posts. They apparently don’t like to read articles critical of the candidates’ record, even if they come directly from the LOC website, NY Times or the HuffPost.
Of course, I just create a new one and repost. They tend to act like religious zealots and told like blasphemers. But, if I can create just one apostate, his weakness may spread–so I stay in the fight. No nasty posts and name calling from me, just data and links to credible sources. That is the worst thing for them to see and they know it.
I love to throw the Fannie/Freddie lobbying numbers at them. They are afraid to look and see that Obama is right behind Dodd and Kerry. The difference is that the tracking goes back to 1989, so Obama has almost topped a list that goes for almost twenty years in just two years time. That is ‘change we can believe in.’
http://www.opensecrets.org/news/2008/07/top-senate-recipients-of-fanni.html
I respect your resolve, iVet. creating apostates is good.
I have been getting after it for days now and they don’t seem to read. I am afraid that I am giving them too much and that it might be more fun for them to find out when it hits them, but they don’t read it anyway and post pointless drivel. I did however have a nice foreign policy discussion with one them. He didn’t say much about Obama, but I had to keep pointing out to him that on the major issues McCain and Biden have held similar positions. The discussion was mostly on Kosovo. Nobody else seems to actually read the posts, they just post something about being weak-kneed from seeing his majesty and then ask for people to donate through their little blog site so that they can win and extra sip of kool-aid from the punch bowl, or maybe a cool new promise ring?
I know what you mean, I’ve been banned from the Democratic Underground because I don’t follow their rules by posting arguments against their god. Those of us who were Hillary supporters were virtually chased out of the DU Blog even before he was annointed.
https://www.torproject.org/
In case anyone doesn’t know what Tor is, it’s a way to mask your IP address by tunneling through layers of “onions” on the network. I’ve used it before to get past the “don’t download more than x per hour” restriction on one of those public file sharing websites, and it works quite well.
Oh, I see. When Obama throws in an irrelevancy (ugly frog), that’s good campaign tactics. When McCain does it (has he ever done this?) it is bad.
Is this true?
Palin will attend the rally against the hallucinogenic Tehran bully Ahmadinejad next Monday 22, 1145 AM ET, at the United Nations Plaza, and that Mrs. Clinton is the keynote speaker. Malcolm is confirming they will both be there at the same time and that it is not fixed yet if they will meet. Another source, my best Democratic source, tells me that a handshake is in order.

Yes it looks so I was just reading about this on another site
just read on another site – hotair? forget which one – that hillary cancelled when she heard sarah would be there.
FOX is shifting towards Obama.
The daytime programming is split with Megyn Kelly drinking the kool aid and Bill Hemmer pro McCain. Problem is Megyn Kelly is a much better speaker than Hemmer. Brit Humes show is split also. His FOX ALL STARS are set up with 2 mccain and 2 obama people, it used to be 3 mccain and 1 obama person. And bill o reilly is now in tank for obama. hannity and colmes is split obviously, and greta seems to be very pro mccain/palin. So on paper it is 50/50, but since o reilly gets a audience twice the size of greta i would give the edge to obama as far as fox goes, which is not good since MSNBC is 100% in the tank for obama, and CNN is 90% in the tank for obama, the reason i say 90% is because lou dobbs hates both obama and mccain, and anderson cooper actually seems to try to be neutral, although his guests are always 100% for obama.
But Greta has credibility while O’Reilly has zero.
lark — I love Greta –
I don’t think so really. I’ve seen a slight wind shift at CNN (making fun of Obama’s teleprompter in a rodeo corral in Denver) and a shift at Fox (O’Reilly subtly giving Obama the backbend). In my estimation these developments represent the consensus…media knows McCain will win and is doing its bit to responsibly play out the next few weeks so as to not split the nation with accusations of ’slanted against Obama’ coverage, racial unrest.
Some in the media will go where they think the power will go if they can no longer shove their agenda down people’s throats. If they truly start to fear that they may not be able to bring it off for Obama, they will also fear being isolated by a new administration. If they start to waiver in the near future, that will show that they fear being shut out more than they currently fear Sarah Palin, but at some point, they will have a lot of making up to do or they will need to be replaced with more honest types. How hard can it be to travel around and ask the obvious and often idiotic questions they do?
At this point, I feel like paraphrasing (and putting a little twist, on a little thought Bill Buckley had (not to offend anyone):
I’d rather be governed by the first 1000 names in the Boston phone book than the current people running the DNC.
Megyn Kelly is not pro Obama. Did you see her outrage at the US Weekly editor when they trashed Palin on their cover?
O’Reilly wants to appear fair and balanced.I doubt he’s pro Obama even though he doesn’t go after him as directly as Hannity does.
In any case, more people watch FOX and FOX does put out at least some of the truth about Obama.
As for the rest, that bias is backfiring. The public does not like to be played. The collective media have lost all credibility, I hope they find their efforts worthwhile.
McHope — only 1 in 10 believes what they see on the media.
With this media it should be less.
jm 08 — Greta’s husband John Kohl was a Hillary supporter and because of the sexism has turned to McCain.
Time to MASS EMAIL Obillbo and use his own stick on him: BOYCOTT
JM08 Go offline and mast——.
O’Relly suprise me a lot, I dont watch Him anymore, He remines me John Edwards, can not be trusted enymore, or this is some game on Fox part???
From Hillbuzz:
One of our favorite people in the world, Lady Lynn de Rothschild tomorrow will announce her full support for John McCain. Rothschild is a personal friend of Hillary Clinton’s, and one of her best fundraisers. Like us, her loyalty remains with Clinton, but her vote, her money, and her efforts are now going to John McCain.
Go, Lynn, go!
VIA Political Tracker:
Prominent Clinton backer and DNC member to endorse McCain
Posted: 10:07 PM ET
From CNN Political Editor Mark Preston
WASHINGTON (CNN) — Lynn Forester de Rothschild, a prominent Hillary Clinton supporter and member of the Democratic National Committee’s Platform Committee, will endorse John McCain for president on Wednesday, her spokesman tells CNN.
The announcement will take place at a news conference on Capitol Hill, just blocks away from the DNC headquarters. Forester will “campaign and help him through the election,” the spokesman said of her plans to help the Republican presidential nominee.
Forester was a major donor for Clinton earning her the title as a Hillraiser for helping to raise at least $100,000 for the New York Democratic senator’s failed presidential bid.
In an interview with CNN this summer, Forester did not hide her distaste for eventual Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama.
“This is a hard decision for me personally because frankly I don’t like him,” she said of Obama in an interview with CNN’s Joe Johns. “I feel like he is an elitist. I feel like he has not given me reason to trust him.”
Forester is the CEO of EL Rothschild, a holding company with businesses around the world. She is married to international banker Sir Evelyn de Rothschild. Forester is a member of the DNC’s Democrats Abroad chapter and splits her time living in London and New York.
PUMAs will decide this election.
beverly leslie — Obama and the Dems are going to go after Palin hard as their October surprise trying to get the state legislature to impeach her. This is not going to sit well with women who will turn in even greater numbers to McCain.
This is the second volley from Team Hill, Bill, John and Sarah. The first was featuring John McCain as the opener for Bill’s Global Initiative and sidelining nObambi
Yikes! The news of an actual DNC member endorsing McCain will cause some serious hemmorhoids in Obama’s camp for sure.
She had her honeymoon in the Clinton White House! This switch is a BIG THING.
anon, the sex ed ad was TRUE. McCain has the bill on his site.
Brit Hume ran a report on the ad tonight how the angry left press has said it is an outrigh lie.
When the truth is, the ad was true.
Go check it out.
It is scary how the media blatantly lies to help these scumbags.
No, not entirely. The bill called for comprehensive and age appropriate sex education, in part to prevent/repel predator tactics. The ad, standing on its own made it seem as though there was no caveat regarding ‘age appropriate’ education. Don’t misunderstand me, it was not a good bill in any event. However, to label it merely ‘comprehensive sex ed to kindergartners’ WAS misleading. It was beneath McCain who does not need misdirection to win…his candidacy IS the better argument. He doesn’t need gimmicks.
Did Brit point out that the ad was factually correct?
Look at the source that the media is using for claiming it is a lie. It is on
http://www.factcheck.org/elections-2008/off_base_on_sex_ed.html
now look at the author of this ‘fact’ check. Here is her bio:
Emi Kolawole earned her B.A. in international relations and theater studies from Wellesley College and studied abroad at both the Panthéon-Sorbonne and the National Theater Institute. She joined the Annenberg Public Policy Center in November, 2005 after working as a news researcher at Congressional Quarterly on issues of defense, foreign policy, intelligence and homeland security. Previously, she was a production assistant at PBS’s “NOW With Bill Moyers,” and worked in the Washington area office of a defense contractor.
http://www.factcheck.org/about/
Now, I would think that if I wanted to fact check an ad about legislation, I would ask a lawyer, not a theater and international relations major. The fact that she worked for Bill Moyers does not seem to make her a particularly unbiased source when dealing with McCain either.
The other thing is that fact checking laws is a little difficult. It is like asking what the amendments to the constitution mean. Ask fifty lawyers and you may get fifty answers. Does that mean they are lying? Not necessarily, but the issue that Obama used to weasel out of his vote was based on his interpretation and what he claims are his intentions for the law. To say that the ad is a lie, especially based on the analysis from the factcheck.org author, is more than a little ridiculous.
Another point, as I understand it, is that Obama is NOW claiming he defended and promoted this legislation on the grounds that it was about teaching K-6 about sexual predators and inappropriate touching, etc., but video/text of his words at the time don’t support this, never mind the actual words in the legislation.
A princess is walking and finds an ugly, ugly, frog. She’s quite surprised to hear it speak out loud, “I’m an enchanted prince! Kiss me and one day I’ll make you my queen.”
She puts the “prince” in her pocket. When the frog/prince asks “What are doing? Didn’t you hear me?”
She says, “Princes around here are a dime a dozen. But a talking frog…”
o reilly is a ratings whore, somehow he decided by going pro obama that he would get more viewers, kinda like what taylor marsh did.
Plus I wouldnt be suprised if obama and oreilly had a deal saying that if obama would give him the interview, than o reilly would return the favor by taking it easy on him in the days leading up to the election.
I just dont know how bill o reilly can sleep at night. I better it really hit home for him, after he saw ko actually compliment him on countdown
O’Reilly likes his popular ratings, no doubt…he quotes them at the onset or end of almost every show. He’s proud of the fact he beats CNN, MSNBC and ABC combined in his time slot every night. He’s not exactly needing to ‘whore’ (ick, that word!) for anything. He had been challenging Obama for months to come on because he had Obama on tape saying he’d appear after the primaries.
Look, I’m as astonished as the next PUMA to find myself watching FOX exclusively anymore. A couple years ago I’d never have believed it possible. The landscape has shifted. F0X was THE only network that gave Hillary fair coverage and didn’t broadcast the flippin’ ancient Greek chorus “Why doesn’t she quit? She’ll quit. Why doesn’t she quit? She’s harming the party”. Remember?
I don’t think Bill O’Reilly is in the tank for Obama. I just think he is trying to bend over backwards to be fair. Fox really is the Fair and Balanced network.
Rupert Murdoch is a big Obama supporter. I expect Fox will be giving glowing press to barfo nonstop come October. Lone holdout – Hannity.
Dan Obama was told that 6% of people will not vote for him and will not tell that to the pollsters.
If that’s true, that would then represent about 3% of the overall electorate, which is about what I would expect. That would turn McCain’s 48-47 lead in the latest Gallup tracking poll into a 51-44 McCain rout on Election Day.
just because someone is not anti-obama does not mean they are pro-obama. SOME reporters and commentators do have credibility and would like to keep it.
Like Megyn Kelly i watched her hammer the guy from US weekly for that sleazy cover of Sarah Palin.
Some poeple are actually fair.
I would not write off someone just because their not bashing obama.
Orielly is my favorite show on the news channel. I think he is fair to both candidates. Sure, i think he could be rougher on obama and cuts him slack on some stuff. I think though for awhile he was nice to get obama on his show. Bill HAS taken swipes at obama on several occasions.
just because someone is not anti-obama does not mean they are pro-obama
KC-Sad but true – Hannity will be the final holdout.
Anyone noticing that the trend in the daily trackers has turned against McCain? I think McCain has to get the Fannie-Obama ties front and center, along with Superior Bank ties, to stanch the bleeding and get Obama on the defense.
Superior would also point out how little is known about Obama’s background and supporters compared to the ongoing daily shellacking of Palin’s very detail.
http://www.usnews.com/blogs/barone/2008/9/16/mccain-has-the-advantage-over-obama-in-post-convention-polls.html
Interesting commentary on the current state of the recent polls.
Despite the numerical values one might want to play with each state, there is at least one important observation.
The undercurrent erosion of Obama support in blue states, I believe is ominous for the Dems, even if McCain does not win the state in question. This speaks to a potential tidal wave movement in the sentiments of a populace that has so heavily favoured Obama as a candidate for so many months. There will of course be a temporary teetering as the Dems fight back. But just the like the force of the pressure propelling a tidal wave, it will finally give way to forceful projection.
The dynamics of this impending change are possibly many. At the simplest level it may be that Republicans have been dormant, while the Dems battled, only to refocus their lens on the new nominees of both parties.
At a more complex level, the burden of denial carried by Dems to deify their candidate, is now greater than the burden of the consequences of their impending choice.
Whatever the forces at play, the groundswell of change is notable, and not likely to go away.
Note on Reilly. Yes, he seems to be more Obama but I don’t see him in the tank. On tonight’s show, he had a good segment on trooper gate with 2 female attorneys who both agreed that the Palin emails and the other facts of trooper gate made that issue a trumped up charge and political circus. Bill agreed. He ran a segment on Michelle tonight. It was an attempt to be “fair” but I thought overall it did not show her in a very good light—the angry woman narrative was explored and she basically lost the case. Fox has also supported McCain on the sex for kindergarden issue (Hannity). They also had the true story on Carly Fiorina. So I think you would be pushing it to say OReilly is now Obama supporter or that Fox is weighted to the Obama campaign. As for Rupert, he has the only network/cable show that is mildly supportive of McCain and a huge audience of Repubs and conservative Dems. They are not going to join the Obama camp and lose that voice position. Their ratings would tank.
CNN’s Crowley: Obama Team Wanted ‘Horrific’ Wall Street Headlines
On Monday’s “Anderson Cooper 360,” after CNN senior political analyst David Gergen said “what happened over the weekend with the economy and the bottom falling out of the financial markets…is the opportunity for Obama to seize the momentum back on his side,” Crowley actually said, “[J]ust as foreclosures were showing up on B-17, or in the real estate section, along comes this horrific headline out of Wall Street…I mean, this is what they wanted.”
I kid you not. The transcript of this disgraceful exchange
http://countusout.wordpress.com/
Guys!
We’ve got several more weeks to go here. Some of you are wanting to prematurely blow it. SLOW down. McCain-Palin are sitting very, very pretty. No need for fast moves or upsets from them … hell, Palin’s nomination still has the lousy, betraying dems without any footing. Everyday they keep slipping more and more, not only in the polls but in their message. Remember Obamination telling the country we were facing another great depression yesterday? What a leader…
okay, I have to add…You can’t blink(!)
Not till the whites of their eyes, right!?
anon-
I agree with Rush Limbaugh when he said yesterday that you dont let your opponet back in the game – YOU CRUSH HIM.
He warned all Republicans to stay on the offensive and get ready to nuke Obama
Hi–
I am new here and just wanted to let you all know that I am fervent Hillary supporter. I am voting for McCain/Palin. I am worried though. I heard Mike Murphy, rep. strategist say that MI will go to Obama because of the high AA vote in Oakland Co. I really want Mac to take the state along with PA. Santorum was on Hannity and he didn’t seem that PA was in the bag. I want Obama to lose bad. Chuck Todd said that the pollsters are not adjusting for all the new Dem voters in NV. I don’t know what to make of this, along w/ McCaom saying the fundamentals line. Sigh…
First, take a deep breath. Second, recognize we are still about 7 weeks from Nov. 4th. Third, hold on to all that positive McCain-Palin feeling you’ve got and if you can volunteer even a couple hours every week, do! Believe me, they want and need your help! Everyone there will be delighted that you want to be a part of their effort!
JM08-
I’ve read some of your earlier posts. I think I understand your position and certainly Rush’s. Respectfully, I disagree with you on what, I at least, perceive as a scorched earth approach in this election. Don’t misunderstand, I’m not advocating kumbaya by any stretch. That’s never been my strategy.
I have always believed, and I’ve proven as a trial lawyer, that sound conviction coupled with correct interpretation and integrity cannot be overcome by ANY smoke and mirrors campaign. I always say, “I don’t need to cheat to win” and btw, neither does McCain.
Especially if he is holding stuff like this in his pocket. I am surprised that the net savvy Obama people didn’t look this up before hammering on McCain all day about the economy and housing:

Mr. President, this week Fannie Mae’s regulator reported that the company’s quarterly reports of profit growth over the past few years were “illusions deliberately and systematically created” by the company’s senior management, which resulted in a $10.6 billion accounting scandal.
The Office of Federal Housing Enterprise Oversight’s report goes on to say that Fannie Mae employees deliberately and intentionally manipulated financial reports to hit earnings targets in order to trigger bonuses for senior executives. In the case of Franklin Raines, Fannie Mae’s former chief executive officer, OFHEO’s report shows that over half of Mr. Raines’ compensation for the 6 years through 2003 was directly tied to meeting earnings targets. The report of financial misconduct at Fannie Mae echoes the deeply troubling $5 billion profit restatement at Freddie Mac.
The OFHEO report also states that Fannie Mae used its political power to lobby Congress in an effort to interfere with the regulator’s examination of the company’s accounting problems. This report comes some weeks after Freddie Mac paid a record $3.8 million fine in a settlement with the Federal Election Commission and restated lobbying disclosure reports from 2004 to 2005. These are entities that have demonstrated over and over again that they are deeply in need of reform.
For years I have been concerned about the regulatory structure that governs Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac–known as Government-sponsored entities or GSEs–and the sheer magnitude of these companies and the role they play in the housing market. OFHEO’s report this week does nothing to ease these concerns. In fact, the report does quite the contrary. OFHEO’s report solidifies my view that the GSEs need to be reformed without delay.
I join as a cosponsor of the Federal Housing Enterprise Regulatory Reform Act of 2005, S. 190, to underscore my support for quick passage of GSE regulatory reform legislation. If Congress does not act, American taxpayers will continue to be exposed to the enormous risk that Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac pose to the housing market, the overall financial system, and the economy as a whole.
I urge my colleagues to support swift action on this GSE reform legislation.
Guess who said these words back in 2005 when Fannie and Freddie were still lobbying the Republicans?
iVET…………..can you send this to Fox..O’Reilly, Hannity, Greta….maybe even MSNBC and CNN and see if they bury it? Thanks

The pollsters are also not adjusting for the fact that there are ALOT of white democrats out there that wont vote for Obama because he is black, but they dont want the pollsters to know it
I’m not one of those buying into the thought that a significant percentage of whites won’t vote for BO simply b/c he’s black. If BO loses, that will be the wailing accusation from the Obama campaign, but I don’t believe it for one minute. I have even written the major pollsters several times (back during the primaries and even after) asking if they would conduct a poll about a Colin Powell Presidency – just to have a base line.
Will Smith, Beyonce,Oprah, Jennifer Hudson, Halle Berry, Alicia Keys, P Diddy, Michael Jordon, Denzel Washington, Eddie Murphy, Usher, etc. – these stars would not have reached the upper level of success today had they not been loved, accepted, appreciated and supported by the white community as well as the AA community.
If people today don’t vote for Barack it’s because of Barack – not his skin color and if people don’t vote for McCain, it’s primarily because they don’t like McCain.

I will repeat a earlier post of mine for you …
2004- Bush beats Kerry
2000-Bush beats Gore
1996-Clinton beats Dole
1992-Clinton beats Bush Sr.
1988-Bush Sr. beats Dukakis
1984-Reagan beats Mondale
1980-Reagan beats Carter
Each winner of the past 7 elections was the one who waged the more aggressive campaign.
But until 0bama, none of them were THUGS
And Bush II was never elected.
yeah, I saw this before. But it depends on what you mean by aggressive and at what point, doesn’t it? Don’t you remember how Clinton said in his first race, “Now, if you agree with my opponent that’s fine, you should vote for him.” It was a tremendously effective approach and it worked! In a way, McCain is in a similar, but not same, place. To deflate Obama’s attack of more of the same he has 2 fronts: his past and his future. Past bucking RNC and future Maverick(which is proven by his past …a neat circular that is actually valid b/c past conduct evidences future conduct.)
But aside from all that, this is NEW territory, for evidence I’ll cite the pollsters who are flummoxed by the national polls leading the state v. vis a versa. The dynamics ARE different now, though I doubt hey’d have been if McCain hadn’t picked Palin.
I am thinking JM08 was a troll.
Correct.
Are you gettng weird sound from the site?
Yes! Everytime I come here, that McCain-singing video goes on. I can’t make it stop.
LOL. LOL. LOL…
There’s nothing new about these so-called “ugly frogs” by McCain in this election season.
Has it occurred to anyone that Obama was truly unrelenting in his use of “ugly frogs” during the primaries? What were Obama’s “ugly frogs”? His constant race-baiting. DUH!
Needless to say, these are the ugliest frogs of all. They were irrelevant w.r.t. issues, w.r.t. the most pressing concerns of the moment, i.e. the war in Iraq, the economy, health care, gas, mortgage crisis, etc. (Now Obama did stick to issues on two points at times, namely Iraq and the gas tax holiday. However, on Iraq he misrepresented his own steadfastness or lack thereof (flip-flops). On the gas issue, he was simply desperate to get Jeremiah off the front pages just before Indiana and N. Carolina.)
During the primaries, Obama was constantly planting “ugly frogs” as well as “pretty frogs”. The ugly frogs, as stated already, were his constant race-baiting and the pretty frogs were his soaring (vacuous) speeches, where he stole every eloquent catch phrase in sight, e.g. “Yes, we can!”, “We are the ones we are waiting for.”, “Just words!”, “Fired up and ready to go!”, etc. You know what they say: If you can’t dazzle ‘em with your knowledge, then dazzle ‘em with your BULSHIT.
During the primaries he never really wanted to talk issues. He wanted it to be about personality. He knew, no doubt thru internal polling, that Hillary was quite vulnerable on character and charisma, or rather that is the corporate media’s scurrilous myths about her. Since he and Hillary agree on most issues, he desperately wanted to avoid getting into any substantive debate with her, for she is without question a formidable policy wonk. Recall that his debate performances were either lousy or lack luster at best, while Hillary’s were quite dominating.
Against McCain, Obama wants to do just the opposite and instead talk issues for two reasons:
1. Personality-wise, the corporate media has turned on him, wherein he is now basically portrayed as an arrogant S.O.B.–indeed, an arrogant “black guy”.
2. The policy differences between him and McCain are vasts, indeed they are polar opposites on many key issues. Polls perennially show that if people vote strictly on policy, then the generic Democrat, any Democrat, would win hands down. This is true 10 times over this year.
————–
This brings up the another fundamentally important point: The “ugly frogs” strategy, be it by McCain or Obama, cannot work without corporate media complicity.
Bill Clinton actually addressed this stuff, just before he left office, although he didn’t call it “ugly frogs”. Bill has explicitly said the media likes to do a lot of psuedo election coverage where they prefer to cover:
1. Scandals rather than issues.
2. Horse race (polls) rather than issues. A lot of this shit. Polls night and day. All polls, all the time.
3. Personality rather than issues.
That is, despite the seeming wall-to-wall election coverage every 2 years, they merely beat around the bush and pretend to cover issues. (Hint: Why is the price of gas so high? Nobody knows, even though gas prices are fundamentally linked to the price of crude, refining costs, demand, etc.) This set up naturally always benefits the GOP, since polling always shows that when issues are seriously discussed in depth, the Dems always win hands down. This includes even the 1996 race between Bill Clinton and Bob Dole, where Bill was universally seen as Mr. Personality and Bob Dole was “Bob Olde”. That is, if the coverage were to have always turned to serious issues, Dole and the GOP would have lost by much larger margins than what actually occurred.
P.S. Obama’s “ugly frogs” (race-baiting, gender-baiting, character assassination) was truly scurrilous, whereas McCain’s “ugly frogs” (Obama’s celebrity, “Lipstick on Pig”, etc.) are actually often quite accurate, despite also being irrelevant with respect to the pressing issues of the day.
Also, during the primaries, Obama’s “pretty frogs” strategy (vacuous speeches in front of huge crowds, etc.) required a complicitous media, just as his “ugly frogs” strategy.
P.P.S. Along side the corporate media’s and GOP’s “ugly frogs” scams, is of course the incessant fear-mongering (black crime + white victims) and titillating garbage (Britney, Lindsay, Paris, etc.) Collectively, it’s all intended to thoroughly numb people. So instead of being angry at The Man who sets gas prices, insurance premiums, sends jobs over to China, etc., they’re either angry at the blacks who supposedly want to kill them or are satiated with Paris Hilton’s salacious trials & tribulations. Or both.

NOTE: I can put all this in an air-tight conceptual framework. If you can’t put your hypothesis in air-tight conceptual framework, then you’re just talking out of your ass. If you have no way of testing your hypothesis, then you’re again just talking outta yer arse.
I guess that means Obama can take a “hop and a big leap back under the rock he came out from”
