Our Economy: “The Foundation”
By SusanUnPC on September 17, 2008 at 11:15 AM in Barack Obama, DNC, Economy, Federal Lobbyists, Housing & Housing Crisis, Lynn Forester de Rothschild, McCain/Palin 2008, Media Bias, Sexism
Below is John McCain’s powerful new TV ad which will run nationally. It’s especially timely because of the dire news reports as well as Larry Johnson’s cut-the-baloney-Barack post below that reveals that Obama is really nothing more than Wall Street’s go-to guy — and has gobbled up far, far more large amounts of lobbying money from Freddie Mac, Fannie Mae, Lehman Brothers, and AIG. Larry’s devastatingly factual post filled me with disgust at Barack Obama and particularly his followers who’ve lost all common sense and any capacity for objective scrutiny.
Last year, I concluded, from his patterns of behavior and the kind of people he takes money from, that Barack Obama is about two things: (1) Money and (2) Winning. Obama’s ruse in using words like “ethics” and ideas like “populist reform” are just campaign fodder for those rapturous rallies that, for reasons that escape me, hypnotize his devoted followers.
I don’t think it’s any accident that Lynn Forester de Rothschild chose today to endorse McCain/Palin, as Uppity Woman reports. This close friend of Hillary’s, and one of her stalwhart fundraisers, is also a savvy, hugely successful businesswoman and attorney. Please read the story at Portfolio about this “woman of major means” whose prescient business ventures and the “sale of cleverly acquired wireless broadband licenses” made her worth more than $100 million before she met her husband.
I’m guessing, but I will wager that Lady de Rothschild knows that Barack Obama isn’t up to the job of steering our economy through these rough waters, and that she has been convinced that John McCain and team can do it better. (I.e., while she has frequently spoken eloquently about issues we’ve emphasized here — the sexism and “gaming” of the primaries against Hillary — I have a hunch the economic crisis factored into her decision to endorse McCain/Palin today.)
As a woman who was appalled by the treatment of Hillary Clinton by the media, by “liberal” bloggers who viciously attacked me and every Hillary supporter, and by candidate Obama and his surrogates with their below-the-belt attacks on both Clintons, I pay particular attention to the opinion of an influential and heretofore-dedicated Democratic party member like Lady de Rothschild who worked tirelessly for both Hillary’s campaign and for the party. She attended the now-infamous DNC Rules & Bylaws Committee meeting where she was the most eloquent voice at the microphone urging the RBC to consider caucus reform. (I wish I had the video of her remarks that day.)
ARLINGTON, VA — Today, McCain-Palin 2008 released its latest television ad, entitled “Foundation.” The ad features John McCain talking directly to the American people about our economic crisis and his plans to reform Wall Street and fix Washington. The American people cannot afford Barack Obama’s agenda of higher taxes, especially when our economy is in crisis. The ad will be televised nationally.
As always, the campaign sends along a script as well as factual bases for each assertion in the advertisement:
Script For “Foundation” (TV :30)
JOHN MCCAIN: You, the American workers, are the best in the world.
But your economic security has been put at risk by the greed of Wall Street.
That’s unacceptable.
My opponent’s only solutions are talk and taxes.
I’ll reform Wall Street and fix Washington. I’ve taken on tougher guys than this before.
ANNCR: Change is coming. John McCain.
JOHN MCCAIN: I’m John McCain and I approve this message.
AD FACTS: Script For “Foundation” (TV :30)
JOHN MCCAIN: You, the American workers, are the best in the world. But your economic security has been put at risk by the greed of Wall Street. That’s unacceptable. My opponent’s only solutions are talk and taxes.
· Barack Obama Has Called For Higher Income Taxes, Social Security Taxes, Capital Gains And Dividend Taxes, And Corporate Taxes, As Well As “Massive New Domestic Spending.” “Obama’s transformation, if you go by his campaign so far, would mean higher income taxes, higher Social Security taxes, higher investment taxes, higher corporate taxes, massive new domestic spending, and a healthcare plan that perhaps could be the next step to a full-scale, single-payer system. Is that what most Americans want, someone who will fulfill a Democratic policy wish list?” (James Pethokoukis, “Barack Hussein Reagan? Ronald Wilson Obama?” U.S. News & World Report’s “Capital Commerce” Blog, www.usnews.com, 2/12/08)
· Barack Obama Would Raise Income Taxes. Obama: “[I] would roll back the Bush tax cuts for those making over $250,000.” (Sen. Barack Obama, CNN Democrat Presidential Candidate Debate, Manchester, NH, 6/3/07)
· Barack Obama Would Raise Capital Gains And Dividend Taxes. “Sen. Obama wants to raise the long-term capital-gains rate for families making more than $250,000 to around 20 percent or somewhat higher but not above the 28 percent level it reached during the Reagan presidency, an Obama economic adviser says. The same rate would apply to most dividend income for these investors.” (Tom Herman, “Tax Report Your Tax Bill: How McCain, Obama Differ,” The Associated Press, 6/18/08)
· Barack Obama Would Raise Social Security (Payroll) Taxes On Families. “Obama’s proposal … would impose social security taxes on income above $250,000 per year. He would continue to exempt income between $102,000 and $250,000 from social security taxes.” (Teddy Davis, Sunlen Miller, and Gregory Wallace, “Obama Kisses Billions Goodbye,” ABC News’ “Political Radar” Blog, blogs.abcnews.com, 6/18/08)
· Barack Obama Has Called For A Tax On Coal And Natural Gas. Obama: “What we ought to tax is dirty energy, like coal and, to a lesser extent, natural gas.” (”Q&A With Sen. Barack Obama,” San Antonio Express-News, 2/19/08)
· Barack Obama Has Called For A Tax On Oil. Obama: “I think it is appropriate for us to impose a windfall profits tax on our oil companies.” (Sen. Barack Obama, Remarks At A Campaign Event, Charlotte, NC, 5/2/08)
· FactCheck.org: “Obama’s Votes Indicate A Willingness To Raise Taxes.” “Certainly Obama’s votes indicate a willingness to raise taxes, and Obama has not been shy about saying explicitly that he will raise some taxes.” (”The $32,000 Question,” FactCheck.org, http://www.factcheck.org, 7/8/08)
JOHN MCCAIN: I’ll reform Wall Street and fix Washington. I’ve taken on tougher guys than this before. ANNCR: Change is coming. John McCain. JOHN MCCAIN: I’m John McCain and I approve this message.
· John McCain: “And Under My Reforms, All Aspects Of A CEO’s Pay, Including Any Severance Arrangements, Must Be Approved By Shareholders.” “In times of hardship and distress, we should be more vigilant than ever in holding corporate abuses to account, as in the case of the housing market. Americans are right to be offended when the extravagant salaries and severance deals of CEO’s — in some cases, the very same CEO’s who helped to bring on these market troubles — bear no relation to the success of the company or the wishes of shareholders. Something is seriously wrong when the American people are left to bear the consequences of reckless corporate conduct, while the offenders themselves are packed off with another forty – or fifty million for the road. If I am elected president, I intend to see that wrongdoing of this kind is called to account by federal prosecutors. And under my reforms, all aspects of a CEO’s pay, including any severance arrangements, must be approved by shareholders.” (John McCain, Remarks, Washington, D.C., 6/10/08)
· John McCain And Governor Palin Will Reform Our Mortgage And Financial Markets. “Fixing Fannie and Freddie, and reforming our mortgage and financial markets, is critical to getting the housing market and the entire economy moving again. A great deal of the savings and wealth of American families is wrapped up in the value of their homes. A house has traditionally been the wealth-building course to retirement. The housing industry employs millions of Americans. One of us, John McCain, said over two years ago, ‘If Congress does not act, American taxpayers will continue to be exposed to the enormous risk that Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac pose.’” (John McCain and Governor Sarah Palin, Op-Ed, “We’ll Protect Taxpayers From More Bailouts,” The Wall Street Journal, 9/9/08)
· John McCain And Governor Palin Will Address The Role Speculation Is Playing In Energy Prices. “Congress already has investigations underway to examine this kind of wagering in our energy markets, unrelated to any kind of productive commerce, because it can distort the market, drive prices beyond rational limits, and put the investments and pensions of millions of Americans at risk. John McCain believes that where we find abuses, they need to be swiftly punished. To make sure it never happens again, we must reform the laws and regulations governing the oil futures market, so that they are just as clear and effective as the rules applied to stocks, bonds, and other financial instruments.” (McCain-Palin 2008, “John McCain’s Lexington Project: A Comprehensive Plan To Break Our Dependence On Foreign Oil,” Press Release, 6/25/08)
· John McCain Fought For Financial Transparency In Stock Option Expensing. “U.S. Senator John McCain (R-AZ) today offered an amendment to the Accounting Reform Bill that would require companies to record the stock options that they grant to their employees as an expense on their financial statements. His floor statement follows: ‘Mr. President, I rise today to offer an amendment that requires companies to record the stock options that they grant to their employees as an expense on their financial statements. If companies want to claim these expenses as a deduction for tax purposes, they ought to be noted as expenses on a company’s income statement. We must end the double standard for stock options.’” (Office Of U.S. Senator John McCain, “We Must End Double Standard For Stock Option,” Press Release, 7/11/02)
· John McCain Has Long Fought For “Transparency Of Our Financial Markets.” “As the incoming Chairman of the Commerce Committee, I plan to conduct rigorous oversight over those aspects of corporate governance that fall under the panel’s purview. I also plan to pursue further reforms that are desperately needed such as expensing stock options. We have an obvious, pressing obligation to investors to ensure the transparency of our financial markets. Reform is a process. It is not a one-time fight.” (Office Of U.S. Senator John McCain, “McCain Declares Reform Crusade Continues,” Press Release, 11/14/01)

I’m Barack Obama and I approve of lying about events and distorting what people say to make my message.
HAHAHA, good one!
A McCain troll accusing Obama of lying in his ads? That’s rich.
I guess if the One says so it must be so, damn the facts. Right?
I guess if Papa McCain lies, nobody here cares.

Alyssa,
I care if Obama lies by omission of facts…
Shameful and Downright Perverse: The Traditional Media and Obama’s Support of Sex Shops and Kindergarten Sex Education
http://noquarterusa.net/blog/2008/09/13/shameful-and-downright-perverse-the-traditional-media-and-obamas-support-of-sex-shops-and-sex-education/#more-4791
What is the REAL purpose of this legislation Alyssa? Protection of children or protection of business?
“If these commentators and reporters were not shameful and perverse in their willful, intentional and shameless advocacy for Barack Obama, they would have discussed another problematic aspect of Barack Obama’s record on sex, children and public schools during his tenure in the Illinois state Senate: a “present” vote on SB609, a measure that prohibits the opening of sex shops near schools, places of worship or day care facilities. Here is the synopsis of the bill on which Obama voted “present:”
Provides restrictions on the proximity of adult entertainment establishments to other adult entertainment establishments, schools, parks, places of worship, pre-schools, day care facilities, mobile home parks, or other residential areas. Provides that a violation of this Act is a
separate petty offense for each day of violation.
Shameful and downright perverse is not McCain’s advertisement; shameful and downright perverse is Obama’s support of sex shops and of sex education for students enrolled in public school kindergartens.
If a five year old fails to absorb lessons about acts of penetration in the classroom, then he or she will at least see it in storefronts on their way to school:
Did the One tell you that McCain is lying?
we really don’t care what YOU say, Alyssa. Now run along and play.
Alyssa, you don’t know squat, obviously.
And McCain doesn’t know squat about the economy.
http://ca.youtube.com/watch?v=0HfNwNN_5mA
What does Obama know?
BTW, it take a wise person, someone that actually has a grasp on a subject as unwieldy as the US economy, to admit that they do not know much about it.
To think that Obama has any idea about what to do other that what his advisors tell him is naive.
Alyssa,
oh yes he does Alyssa…Sen McCain knows a lot more than you give him credit for…

Sen McCain doesnt need to go down to Sen Obama’s gutter level…Sen McCain just needs to get the truth out there-that’s all.

Well, that’s the problem with airheads like you, Zelda. You think you “must” say something; even when whatever it is you say is worth nothing.
Tis better to keep quiet and be thought a fool, than to open your mouth and prove it, Zelda-Sweetie.
As a PROUD AMERICAN, McCain’s gift of Sarah Palin was exactly what I hoped for.

I love all the McCain ads. If they think those are sleazy just imagine what it could be if he pulled out all the big guns on Obarfy!
As far as Barfy’s ads, they just remind me how childish and dumb he is! And that he is not qualified to be POTUS!
I absolutely love this ad by Barrakula, in it he is only knocking himself, but he is dumb enough to think he is knocking McCain. Way too funny to me to put down the catch phrase you have been using for a year!

Some mindless O-bot replicant on Youtube commented that when Biden praised McCain and said the country would be better off, he was comparing McCain to Bush, not Obama.
That means Biden says McCain is not Bush. The whole Obama campaign is based on the lie that McCain is the same as Bush, when their Veep nominee is on record saying the opposite.

wow- someone (zelda) is in denial. tee hee!
Good ad.
I especially like McCain saying “I’ve taken on tougher guys than these before”– not only is it true, but it feels like Wall St. has a very powerful, stranglehold over our country.
I think the old pilot has been playing it pretty smart. Let Obama try to dazzle people with his rhetoric and false claims while McCain lays back in reserve and waits. Slowly, the evidence will begin to get around about the moneyed interests behind the second coming of a community organizer and the rhetoric will have to be compared to the record. The fighter pilot stays out of range until he spots in a weakness that he can exploit–then he attacks.
Only, McCain didn’t really stay out of range as a pilot.
He could simply say Obama pulled rank on the Democratic party, and he isn’t experienced for the job.
His conversation in Iraq appears to indicate he wants to play general, delay a withdrawal, and hasn’t learned the fundamental aspects of how to do that right, from an experienced perspective.
He found time for photo ops shooting basketballs instead of finding the means for policy application.
Maybe this will put ol’ JM08′s multifarious fears to rest.
Until he comes up with some other anxiety to obsess over.

great rebuttal…did you see that last para where he asks Fauxbama to tell his thugs to stop calling him with death threats!
hello? MSM?!
omg
What is trouble? Satire? This shows the weakness of the attack against Palin, not strength. Good luck awaiting the rapture and pushing for the second coming of the community organizer.
I was kidding!
i’m thinking this is satire… are these women for real?
Yes, it’s meant to be amusing.
“Yes” meaning it’s satire. No, these ladies are not for real.
Those women aren’t hockey moms. Both my sons played sports and with my second son I was a stay at home mom. I went to every game and if there were moms who worked and couldn’t contribute enough or be there all the time, we stay at home moms took up the slack. That is what moms do (especially moms with sons in sports). This video is a joke and if I ever had to hang around with those women, I don’t know if I could handle it. Pretty creepy moms and women if you ask me.
That made women look petty and whiney. Those women would rather talk behind someone’s back than to be proactive… I thought it was a huge joke. Look at what supporting Obama turns women into.
If that is what a lefty feminist looks like, I say no thanks!
And they practiced and practiced and practiced and finally they got it.
I advice like the gecko ad to hire a professional.

I wouldn’t be surprised if these are all friends of Gov Palin’s who got together to put out this spoof.
It shows that satire is safe in our country as a free speech right-with McCain/Palin.
QUite different attitude from the Obama camp’s reaction to the New Yorker magazine cover.
Really powerful ad by McCain. He’s not saying the sky is falling, he compliments the American worker, and he puts the blame exactly where it should be: Wall Street greed.
He’s fantastic. I’m so glad I have McCain to vote for in the first year I’m ever voting against the Democrat running for president.
I’m happy there are other Dems in my boat who are smart enough to see through uhbama’s crap.
Together, we can teach the DNC a lesson: LISTEN TO THE PEOPLE!!!!
A funny ad would feature Obama in cartoon as Chicken Little to show his ’sky is falling’ tactic along with his being too chicken to stand up for any cause beyond himself.
McCain tried to warn of the collapse and tried to do something about it in 2005. Who is the real reformer in this election?
http://hotair.com/archives/2008/09/17/mccains-attempt-to-fix-fannie-mae-freddie-mac-in-2005/
The GOP was running Congress in 2005. Guess McCain didn’t have enough leadership to make his own party do the right thing.
You mean like Obama did in Illinois. Nice try.
Ever looked in the Ethics “Reform” Legislation that got his mentor more than $500,00 to take home from his campaign fund?
Try these articles for starters, and then do a little research and come back to report the results of all the ‘change’ and ‘reform’ that Senator Obama has gotten accomplished.

Put down the memoirs and take a look at the record.
He was the voice for change all along. Greedy Bastards wanted to keep getting the $$$$$ on both sides of the aisle.
That is McCain’s appeal he has struggled against the the bad actors on both sides.
Obama on the other hand has hidden in the skirts of Nancy Pelosi anytime a hard decision has to be made.
Make him list times he had sttod against corrupt behaviors from DNC members. He has been NOTORIOUSLY SILENT on Rangel and his tax evasion/misdeeds.
Mr.Murder; You maybe right about where McCain was with the leadership in 2005. Perhaps the “powers that be” had other things in mind.

Thanks for this link. I will cross post.
Restore taxation to the levels Eisenhower said were fair(80% or more of income).
McCain has been fighting for Reform for years–without any help from Obama.

I was flabbergasted yesterday listening to the clips of Barky Oblahblah talking about bankrupcy protection for average folks in order to save their homes. The gall of that man. Does he have freakin’ amnesia? Does he think we have freakin’ amnesia? Why are so many American families struggling, victims of predatory lending? Hey Barky, you idiot! Just turn to your left and look Banking Joe Biden straight in the eyes!
I’d take more from Buffett personally, but hey, what do I know…Oh yeah, probably far more than you;)

Wow. I hope others are reading that!
I couldn’t agree more. The smart people, not the snobs, are jumping ship. They know BO is a fraud and an empty suit.
My question is, how does he have any support? You cannot tell me that Senators did not see this arragance and stupity in those 143 days they did have to work with him?
I have a coworker who is dumb as a brick. I knew it within a couple of weeks. It has not changed now that she has been here a year!
How could any dem not know and or think the gOP wouldn’t know who the man really is?
csuzeq,
good question. I had been wondering about that too until I ran across this article.
Sen Obama got these political supporters in his pocket probably by offering them something each of them professionally or personally wanted very badly.
Read this VERY eye opening article.
Especially read the bloggers comments on that thread-my (athy) comments too-

Well, well, well: McCain tried to do something about Frannie Mae and Freddie Mac in 2005. What happened? Chris Dodd, who received the most political contributions from the two quasi-governmental mortgage buyers, kept McCain’s reform bill from getting out of committee.

One more reason to vote straight Republican. We need to get rid of the old democrats.
BTW …
Who was no. 2 recipient of Fannie/Freddie’s largesse? You guessed it. Captain Barky BS himself.
“Who does number 2 work for”?
lol
hahahahahahahaha
US embassy in Yemen was bombed. A multistaged attack.
No Americans reported hurt, just an attempt to breach Yemini Guard checkpoints surrounding the facility.
Petraeus announced a day or two ago he’d be gone. Perhaps he actually read the writing on the wall….
That will only help Mccain.
Great ad and coupled with the endorsement, powerful.
exactly, Obama should be ahsamed for trying to whip folks in a panic. As president you need leadership not panic.
Obama is playing the politics of fear, the very politics he has denounced over and over.
I also think poeple understand this is america and we have made it through worse. McCain looks statesmen like on this issue obama looks confused and trying to pass the blame on Mac who back in 05 tryed to fix fannie and freddie while obama was lining his pockets with their money.
Keep in mind obama recieved all of that money within the last 2 years he has been running for president. McCain recieved that money over a period of time beggining in 89 and still has way les than obama.
McCain is tapping into a brilliant populist message that will work. His attacking corruption is brilliant because places like NY,PA, and MI have had thier share of corruption from the dems in power.
Michigan has been controlled by dems for the last few years and has been in a recession for awhile.
Michigan can be a powerful argument for McCain, look at what the dumbocrats did to the economy up there with big tax and spend liberal policy.
The straight talk express is on a road to victory with his current take no prisoner reform message which Palin reinforces perfectly with what she did in alaska.
Democrats playing the fear card? naaaaahhhh
“Roe V Wade” “Supreme Court” “Social Security”
Maybe Obama lost a lot of money and that’s why he’s freaking out. lol
And his old trustworthy, race card. BO’s official media spokesman,Cafferty, just said that the race is close because of race. Yesterday Sibelius said the race is close because the opposition is using “code language”. I, for one, don’t really care that his mother was white and that his father was black. He has no character and no principles.
Now to be fair, Barack represents the worst in any race.
Answer to Obama’s Roe Scare Tactics.
hmmm…Obama’s economic plan is to raise all kinds of taxes. I didn’t see a one in McCains.
McCain/Palin 08
And God bless Rothschild for her courage and integrity to endorse John McCain and Sarah Palin. Cripes, a lone voice in the Democratic party these days. It would really show love of this country if more people would get a spine and follow suit.
Can’t raise taxes OR increase federal programs in this economy …. UNLESS we are selling everything to Japan and/or China ….
Obama this morning says that he plans a $5B fund for the Great Lakes. I hope that includes the GL in Oregon.
Probably we should do what economic common sense dictates:
(1) Raise taxes on the people who can most afford to pay them;
(2) Cut taxes on those who are struggling to pay their bills;
(3) Cut programs that don’t result in eventual returns on the investment (the $12 billion-a-month war in Iraq, a billion in foreign aid to the Republic of Georgia, etc), and focus on programs that will provide huge returns (alternative energy development, for example, which would provide immediate economic stimulation, and eventually reverse the tidal wave of cash flowing from the U.S. to foreign treasuries).
We should email to thank her if anyone has an email!
Here’s Barky’s assessment of last night…
“It’s about those who will never see the inside of a building like this,” Obama said.
Can he get any more arrogant?
That’s funny! He wants to help those less privileged by telling them prosperity is hopeless for them. What idiot wrote that? Does not matter really who wrote it. No one forced Ohitler to say it and we know he and his arrogant ilk believe it.

ARROGANCE had everything to do with it.
The little people…WHO WILL NEVER…
Those gun totin’ bible clingin’ unwashed whiteys.
There is some good news for the economy today! Popcorn and butter futures soared as demand from PUMA NQ readers spiked with the selection of Palin as VP choice by McCain. Cheetos and Koolaid futures were not far behind and some very nervous trolls continue to binge on them.
LOL!
SusanUnPC, a serious question. The Bush presidency is at an end. If John McCain takes over, would the economy improve? and what if Obama takes over? What would be the future of the economy based on the 2 economic plans? Just asking for your prediction in both cases, I guess.
I’m speaking for me, not Susan….NEITHER party will improve this economy (IF BO SHOULD BE ALLOWED TO STEAL THIS ELECTION). Just look at what the republicans have done while in power all these years. USUALLY, Democrats are better with money, but BO IS NO DEMOCRAT. He’s just as bad as the Idiot-In-Chief who has damn near destroyed this country. Look at what REAGAN did when he was in power. Trickle Down Economics didn’t work then and it isn’t working NOW …..NOT TO MENTION WHAT HE DID FOR THE aids EPIDEMIC! HE IGNORED IT.
We REALLY, REALLY, REALLY need Hillary in office. The economy under her husband FLOURISHED! SHE was our best HOPE FOR CHANGE.
MORE tax cuts for the WEALTHY???? I don’t think so! That’s not going to do a damn thing but exacerbate the problem. Why are we in this situation? Could it be the middle class has been financially starved while the big oil, Pharmaceuticals, Corporations, Wall Street lenders and the ultra wealthy have been swimming in BILLIONS upon BILLIONS of profits? I think so.
A RISING TIDE LIFTS ALL BOATS. Trickle DOWN economics SINKS THEM and THAT is where we are at this point in time. WE ARE SINKING thanks to Republican Economics.
Republicans are HORRID with finances and BO is a Republican in disguise.
Of course, this is just my Constitutionally Protected personal opinion.
Benny it doesn’t matter if Obama’s plans are 10 times better than McCain’s. It doesn’t. The flip flops/back and forth from Obama will paralize Congress, the US economy, the world economy. You cannot have his wavering on each and every subject on hand in the White House. It spells disaster regardless of the soundness of the plans.
That’s why even when Hillary’s plan somewhat resembles Barack’s (his are only stolen words) it has as good an opportunity to work than McCain’s. Because Hillary can carry an idea, a plan from concept to fruition and you will get results. They may not be the one you like but you will get results. She is a master at ‘community organizing’ Congress and the Administration into a straight line policy.
You can do it one way or the other way, but you cannot do it both ways. And that’s Barack Obama, whatever, anything, every way, whichever which way but the right way.
I saw a column in my daily paper written by a Michael Gerson, bemoaning that the “Real Obama left campaign”. He cites several opportunities that BO had to get his message out but didn’t. His last paragraph was a real hoot for me,”The candidate who said those words the night that he won the Iowa caucuses did pretty well. But whatever the outcome of this presidential election, that candidate is no longer in the race”.
You bet, the candidate with the real message for the American people and the real solutions-she is no longer in the race. I wonder how that happened!
Obama does not care about the economy. He cares about the medicine cabinet at Babs and how he looks in the mirror.
That’s about it. It’s him, him, him and with whom he associates.
Economy to Barky is bling in the bank for him in his account.
Benny,
Its tough for anyone to answer that question because Sen Obama has always run his career and actions based upon political expediency.
So he will tell us anything he thinks we want to hear TODAY about the economy and then will be able to take a 360 degree turnaround postion tomorrow on same issue BECAUSE
TOMORROW it might not be politically expedient for him take the stance that he is taking today.
The only track record we have of Sen Obama’s ability to implement change is to look back on what is happening today in CHicago.
Increasing rates of Murders, poverty, poor public education system (worse off than most urban centers in US facing similar national economic crisis).
That might change in a few years since it was decided that Olympics will take place in Chicago so all new business that comes into chicago at that time-well…sen Obama can take FULL credit for it.
In case he loses this Nov-what is his next step? Possibly Governor of Illinois? The Olympics-related revenue to Chicago would make Sen Obama look real good nationally right?
I am JUST SPECULATING here. Public Finance IS NOT my area of specialization but…as a halfway intelligent voter I can think about things…
Read this article and try to infer/project how things MIGHT be under an economy managed by Sen Obama and his crew…
Sen Obama’s ACTUAL Legislative Accomplishments…
http://www.beyondchron.org/articles/The_Obama_Craze_Count_Me_Out_5413.html
McCain just said Obama chose to have Fannie Mae’s CEO help him find a Vice President, Obama chose the CEO as an advisor.
KO, down goes Obama! Down goes Obama! Down goes Obama!
The truth will slowly trickle out. It wouldn’t hurt the great one so much if he hadn’t portrayed himself as such a self-righteous ‘new’ politician who was above it all. He believes his own hype that he is the second coming of the great community organizer.
exactly.
Yes it was James “Jim” Johnson. Uppity wrote an article on it too.
I remember Lynn Forester saying in an interview that she, frankly, doesn’t like Barack Obama, that he hasn’t gained her trust. This was in June; it looks like Barack Obama has done nothing to change her mind.
I trust her judgment and am impressed that she, again, openly declares her position by endorsing the Republican candidate instead of the one from the “undemocratic Democratic Party”.
Benny, Obama plans to raise taxes on EVERYONE. McCain plans to cut taxes for EVERYONE.
Obama’s tax plan he keeps speaking of is a disaster. HE IS NOT CUTTING TAXES, he is sending a 2nd stimulus chack for 500 bucks, one time. So no rate is being cut.
McCain is cutting rates across the board. McCain also plans to tackle the deficit and hopes to have it balanced by the end of his first term.
Obama is introducing a trillion dollars in new spending and said” i have no pland to cut the deficit”
So do not believe the hype on Obama’s misleading tax “cut”. He is even raising the death tax. So when one of your family members pass you pay even more money to the government for them passing.
Also, a lttle basic economics. Obama says he will raise taxes on those who make 250,000 or more. Well that means almost anyone with a small business will get slammed. And think if you are a married family making that much combined with kids you get hit and obama considers that “rich”
Obama will raise payroll, capitol gains, business, corporate, death, along with a few more i cannot remember. McCain is cutting them.
Also, if you raise taxes on businesses they will just lower wages, downsize, and pass it on to the consumer.
He wants to tax oil companies with a windfall and they only have a profit margin of 8%. Google has a margin of 25%, if this were to happen it would set precedent for the government to tax whoever is making it and give it out to poeple who are not. Even Joe Biden said yeserday it is income redistribution. we should reward those for their success not demonize them and take money from them.
And let me say this. I am a lower-middle class guy. I live in a rural area so i get by okay. I do not want a handout. America is about hardwork. It is about pulling yourself up by your own bootstraps. That is what makes our great nation unique, anyone has a chance to make it. I do not need the governments help, i will help my damn self. JUST SAY NO TO THE WELFARE STATE.
Also, his welfare check he passes for a tax cut will go to folks WHO DO NOT EVEN PAY INCOME TAXES.
Thank you Paul3triple. I have spent my life taking care of myself and my family. When I see the people here in New Mexico who are 2nd and 3rd generation welfare I just want to scream. Whereas there are times when people need help, then help should be available, but to be on welfare as a child and continue the cycle through adulthood is a bit much.
McCain – Palin have the best odds from a historical standpoint as only 2 Dems have got over 50% in the GE in this century. Obama is losing votes to Nader in the NE and McCain is picking up votes from Paul since he added Palin who appeals A LOT to Mid Westerners, Westerners and Libertarians. I suspect more big time Hillary supporters to be ‘Rolled Out’ as McCain needs good news pick ups for the next few weeks. I am also hoping the 527s start hitting Obama harder on abortion and Ayers and hopefully the infamous Whitey Tape or something like it is just waiting. Also, McCain is expected to beat O in the debates and I dont think the low expectain thing will work for O this time. Bill’s having McCain as a centerpeice at his Wold Conferance is going to be huge, too. AND Hillary took the opportunity to run from Palin which she will continue to do. Hillary 2012!
Hmm…..the trend is in Obama’s favour. Gallup has him up 47-45. not good for McCain. Hope the economy isn’t a game-changer. The democrats are traditionally always stronger on the economy.
Wait for it. Obama’s rhetoric and record are so divergent that it is a great way for him to walk right into a sucker punch.
Not this time. Obama and Biden have too many skeltons in their closet- Country-wide, MNBA, Fannie Mae, Oblahblah’s backdoor connection to lobby money. I can hear the bones rattling now.
There’s a very big problem when it comes to trying to blame Democrats for our current financial mess: the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Financial Services Modernization Act.
McCain promoted it and voted for it.
Every Democrat in the Senate except on voted against it.
Our current financial mess couldn’t have happened without it.
The Gramm-Leach-Bliley Financial Services Modernization Act is not solely to blame. There were good provisions in that act, so you should be precise on how that is the cause of our financial problems…
Greed inspired exploitation of loopholes and networking through back room deals have created this huge mess, IMO.
Shadow lenders will be a household name soon. This practice is not regulated at all as far as I know.

it’s tied then. good. if barky is THE ONE, this should have been a cakewalk. In a year the dems could not lose, they selected a loser. way to go.
McCain is the smart warrior here. Barky is trapped and has no where to go but down.
18 months of fawning media coverage and all he can do is tie McCain?
what a fool.
Senator Obama has as already tested the bottom of his dip in the polls and turned around.
McCain is headed back for where he started. His peak was based on the Palin bubble. That bubble was too fragile to keep him afloat, with the millstone of republican economic policy weighing him down.
we’ll see
His words, like like silent rain drops fell….
Dr.Kate can you sense the decompression coming and BO (the alien) getting sucked out into space?
Now that would be a cure. eh?
That’s to be expected since the MSM’s goal is to increase viewership by tightening the race. Money money money. Barack’s Hollywood fundraiser will hurt him in the next few days. And Obama is charismatic on the podium reading from the teleprompter. No two ways about it.
Paul3triple, thank you for that clarification. I appreciate it. Yes, when Obama said he’ll REDUCE taxes for the 95%, it had me confused. just asking, thats all. And I would always appreciate SusanUnPC’s view too.
It seems like the dems come out with glee that the economy is bad, they’re giddy that the american people are hurting. They rely on the misery of the american people to get elected
I’m sure they’re glad that people are suddenly listening to what they’ve been saying about the economy for months. What about the issues? the democrats kept pleading. This election isn’t about issues, McCain’s campaign head told us. The guy actually said that.
The republicans didn’t even mention the economy until things got so bad they couldn’t ignore the problem. When forced to talk about the economy, they were telling us that All of the basics are fine, remember? Clearly they weren’t.
John McCain seems to have discovered that fact for the first time just over a week ago.
That’s the one team’s talking point.
“John McCain seems to have discovered that fact for the first time just over a week ago.”
Sorry you missed.
Dr Zarkov,
What do you base that statement on?
“The republicans didn’t even mention the economy until things got so bad they couldn’t ignore the problem. When forced to talk about the economy, they were telling us that All of the basics are fine, remember? Clearly they weren’t.
John McCain seems to have discovered that fact for the first time just over a week ago.”
In my opinion, IF you think that he only discovered that fact for the first time just over a week ago…well…then he nailed the problem on the head.
http://patriotroom.com/?p=2092
This speech is EXCELLENT. The truth will hurt Sen Obama indeed. This video needs to get out along with links on where people can learn more about what Sen McCain is discussing…They will see that Sen McCain is a straight talker. Sen McCain doesnt need to go down to Sen Obama’s gutter level…Sen McCain just needs to get the truth out there-that’s all.

Maybe they should start talking about this speech from back in May of 2006:
Mr. President, this week Fannie Mae’s regulator reported that the company’s quarterly reports of profit growth over the past few years were “illusions deliberately and systematically created” by the company’s senior management, which resulted in a $10.6 billion accounting scandal.
The Office of Federal Housing Enterprise Oversight’s report goes on to say that Fannie Mae employees deliberately and intentionally manipulated financial reports to hit earnings targets in order to trigger bonuses for senior executives. In the case of Franklin Raines, Fannie Mae’s former chief executive officer, OFHEO’s report shows that over half of Mr. Raines’ compensation for the 6 years through 2003 was directly tied to meeting earnings targets. The report of financial misconduct at Fannie Mae echoes the deeply troubling $5 billion profit restatement at Freddie Mac.
The OFHEO report also states that Fannie Mae used its political power to lobby Congress in an effort to interfere with the regulator’s examination of the company’s accounting problems. This report comes some weeks after Freddie Mac paid a record $3.8 million fine in a settlement with the Federal Election Commission and restated lobbying disclosure reports from 2004 to 2005. These are entities that have demonstrated over and over again that they are deeply in need of reform.
For years I have been concerned about the regulatory structure that governs Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac–known as Government-sponsored entities or GSEs–and the sheer magnitude of these companies and the role they play in the housing market. OFHEO’s report this week does nothing to ease these concerns. In fact, the report does quite the contrary. OFHEO’s report solidifies my view that the GSEs need to be reformed without delay.
I join as a cosponsor of the Federal Housing Enterprise Regulatory Reform Act of 2005, S. 190, to underscore my support for quick passage of GSE regulatory reform legislation. If Congress does not act, American taxpayers will continue to be exposed to the enormous risk that Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac pose to the housing market, the overall financial system, and the economy as a whole.
I urge my colleagues to support swift action on this GSE reform legislation.

Its sad that Hillary Clinton, a growth-democrat, isn’t on the ticket. Instead we have a re-distribution democrat like Obama. Thats a recipe for financial disaster. Speaking for me only. Like BTD on talkleft says.
Did he say this? I might have to reassess my opinion of him, even if he did choose Barky “because he’s the media darling.”
So are we a socialist country now that George W. Bush has used public funds to buy out all the major corporations?
Interesting, isn’t it? I guess that makes the taxpayers 80% owners of AIG…
Only if the drunkenness of all that power goes to their heads. And Oblahblah would certainly like that. This is a great time for bureaucrats.

For anyone coming here to criticize Obama, let’s see you do what he has done.
Let’s see you run the most successful political campaign in history, have almost 3 million dononrs, get crowds of over 200,000 people at one event. Let’s see you help register new voters in the millions.
Let’s see you inpsire a naition and the world.
It takes a real man, an extremely intelliigent man, a gutsy man and a man of courage to do what Obama has done and plans to do for America!
OBAMA/BIDEN 2008

I guess being the candidate is justification enough.
More to the point: If you are supporting Obama, why are you coming here?
I don’t go to Obama sites because I know those people have drunk the Kool-Aid. Not interested in that. l come here so I can get the facts and bash a truly bad candidate: Obama.
Real, gutsy, courageous? WTF? That is sooo funny. Thanks, I needed the laugh. Oh yeah, and those weren’t new voters he registered, those were dead people and felons.
In Congress Obama hasn’t done anything significant. So doing what he has done would not be difficult
Andrea,
Support who you want BUT if you support Obama/Biden and
If you visit websites that lean towards supporting other candidates
Then
you had better know what you are talking about if you want to engage in intelligent discussion and fact finding. Back up what you say with facts.
Include links if possible.
People are willing to engage in intelligent discussion with others who hold opposing view points but the key word is ‘intelligent’.
It is okay to say “I dont know the answer to that”
or “I disagree with you because…”
That is how intelligent discussion takes place-it involves an exchange of facts, opinions, and Links to sources of your facts (if readily available-but ok if not avl too)
That is our only hope for our society-true open discussion and exchange of facts, opinions, ideas.
Thanks for being open-minded enough to visit sites where the bloggers may hold differing opinions than the ones you hold. That takes guts-as long as you are not a troll…
well, bail-outs are bad but if they had not happened we would have really seen a crisis and regular americans would have been devestated by these institutions falling out.
Also, the gallup poll is good news imo. Obama will keep up his panic rhetoric and look like an opportunist. Yesterday was a good day for mac and today is to.
Obama released a statement today and did not even know what AIG meant. The I is for international and Obama put insurance. So who is really out of touch?
Also, Mac held the lead for 2 weeks. He is still holding in the new Rasmussen which polls more poeple.
And if you hold steady for 2 weeks that is great progress. It could be they polled more dems. Who knows. Really you should not sweat these polls at all. 3000 poeple is not really representative of the nation. Plus with a margin of error of 2 that means there is 4 points that could go either way. McCain seems steady which tells me he has good internals and likes the way things are shaping up. The rnc has a boatload of cash and McCain does not have to fundraiser at all since he accepted public funds.
Obama is talking about how he is for the small guy and then hops on a plane to hob-knob in hollywood with folks paying 28,000 dollars to be there. Bad mojo on that one.
no tek, I’m just using BTD’s style. speaking for me only.
[...] “Our Economy: “The Foundation”” [...]
Obama must be sure that AIG = American Indian Gangs. no wonder he hasn’t heard of them. ofcourse, he’ll be outraged that this gang has been bailed out by the federal govt. /snark
completely off the topic…. wanna see a movie today. which one would you recommend? A new movie, hopefully.
sorry Benny……BOYCOTT HOLLYWOOD
The US economy is simply becoming a “bureaucrat’s” heaven.
This wouldn’t be happening if bureaucratic regulators had been allowed to watch more closely.
Nobody seems to pick up on the fact that many of our current problems are a direct result of deregulation, and the republican politicization of our regulatory agencies. You can thank that for diminished airline safety, questionable food and drug safety, questionable bank and investment practices, etc.
Don’t blame bureaucrats for the bad laws elected officials give them to work with.
I will accept the republican politicization of the regulatory agencies. But after all, the are in the Administration. Bureaucrats responsibility in these agencies is to resist politicization. So by justifying it through complaining about it, that does not exonerates them. No?
Man, truer words never spoken! We can thank Reagan for THAT too and the republican party! Deregulation has darn near destroyed the airline industry. Look at what we just went through with the tainted dog food with melamine and the tainted wheat gluten from China that made it into the food chain here.. Right now, 6,200 BABIES are sick from drinking melamine tainted baby formula in China (don’t know if that formula has made its way here yet or not, but still…it could have…EASILY and the FDA would have let it in.)
The FDA has admitted they don’t have enough $$$$$$$$ or manpower to investigate or regulate all our imported food and everything else we import. I watched the FDA hearing. I heard the head of the FDA admit they have lost control. Imports are just to numerous and we don’t have the manpower to investigate or regulate. It’s pathetic. REALLY pathetic.
I’ve never been a proponent of deregulation and agree that Reagan was. However, deregulation started under the presidency of Jimmy Carter AND Ronald Reagan was working with a Democratic Congress who rubber stamped all his proposals with the statement “he had a mandate.” So the blame should be spread equally.
Dr Zarkov,
Your statement about “deregulation” implies that Sen McCain is a 100% neo-con Republican conservative idealogue.
If you look back on Sen McCain’s time in office-he was a thorn in GWB’s side.
His own party has fought against Sen McCain tooth and nail because this man is a MODERATE Republican. He holds strong personal views but from a political standpoint he tries to do what is best for the nation as a whole. Based upon his track record AND the agita he has given his fellow republican pols, Sen McCain does not appear to be a hard core neocon ideologue who will push through neocon policies-as Sen Obama is trying to make him out to be and how the Democratic leadership is portraying him as.
I was a life long democrat up until I saw what was done in the democratic primary this election year AND what is being done to Sen McCain and how excellent third party candidates were effectively prevented from being heard-BY MY FORMER PARTY (Democratic) !!!.
Most importantly, I switched party affiliations because I do not support what Sen Obama plans to DO TO THIS COUNTRY if he is elected.
Hackers have broken into Palin’s email account apparently:
http://blogs.artvoice.com/techvoice/2008/09/17/hackers-break-into-sarah-palins-inbox/
The site is bogged down right now, but the one that I saw was nothing unusual, just political discussion. But, who knows what they will post, or create and post to try to smear her.
Powerful women that don’t bow down to the good-ol boys (of either party) scare the hell out of them.
Obots would never do a thing like that. (/sarcasm)
Remember when Obama said in one of the debates that government should be transparent, and HE, The Mighty Obama, would allow government hearings to be televised on C-Span? What’s with banning the press and television cameras from Obambi’s big Hollywood fundraiser last night? Why aren’t the American people allowed to see the Mighty One mix and mingle with the Hollywood elite cokeheads and crazy liberals? What, we might overhear Obarfy complaining about small town, small minded, gun clinging, religious idiots all over the country? We might see Obambi sipping his Pinot Grigio (which a former drug user should not be drinking – ask Betty Ford, no alcohol allowed for drug addicts) and enjoying opulent wealth while the banking industry is melting down thanks to many of Obarfy’s supporters? Obambi is the most secretive, non-transparent candidate ever! And he is only interested in taking other people’s money to line his pockets!
Really well done SusanUnPC.
Work winds a blowin’… but “TAP TAP” to ya.
Awesome ad! McCain is going to take this one away. McCain/Palin 08! Gotta get the bumper sticker so I can put it next to my Hillary 08 sticker. I want the one that says, “Country First, McCain/Palin”.
Go PUMAS!!
Fox news has an article reporting the Joe Biden said it took financial crisis for McCain to see Economic Troubles. I left a lengthy reply reporting that McCain had actually predicted in 2005 this would happen. The comment has not yet show up. Could some of you also leave a comment:

LET ME ASK YOU ONCE AGAIN YOU OBAMABOTS;HOW MANY TIMES DOES YOUR MASTER CHANGE HIS POSITION A DAY? LOOK LIKE HE IS NOT STABLE,DOESN’T EXACTLY KNOW WHAT HE IS SAYING OR DOING.YOU MIGHT LOOK ALIKE TO SUPPORT HIM,BUT WATCH OUT HE IS READY TO THROW YOU TOO UNDER THE BUS JUST TO SEE HIS DREAM REALIZED.
ANYWAY I HAVE WARNED YOU
Check out the influence of ’shadow capitalism’ A picture of what is really going on in the Shadow Banking System is beginning to emerge. It makes the coming slump much more troubling than those of the last 50 years. To begin with, we never had such large opaque pools of capital and derivatives before. The Growth of Credit Default Swaps (above) to more than $47 Trillion in the last two years is just one indication. Bill Gross said it best.
“The investment community has morphed into something beyond banks and something beyond regulation. We call it the shadow banking system.”
Blog is “pro obama” but his economic insights are astute. http://jtaplin.wordpress.com/2008/03/23/savage-capitalism/
He fought for transparency in stock option spending, except for the pre 9-11 Wall St. selloff? Quite a leader there.
McCain’s maverick status is a myth almost the size of Obama.
