This isn’t a lot of fun.

Zelda, your comment doesn’t even fully make sense. I am not clicking on anything without a little more explanation.

Anyway, Todd Palin seems very nice! Just a nice solid guy and Sarah is lucky to have him I think.

“I was working the nightshift with my crew”….I’m not sure that I’ve ever heard those kind of words from a politician or political spouse in my lifetime. You think of them (this ‘class’ of people) as lawyers, bureaucrats and career politicians/spouses, not people who work the nightshift. I think that is what’s so refreshing (hell, maybe even revolutionary) about Palin.

I may not agree with her on everything, but I like her. I don’t know WHAT BO stands for and I do NOT like him.

Oh crap. We are in trouble.

a New CBS Poll is out with Obama Leading by 5 Points!!!!

The BAD news?

Total Respondents:——-1133 (100.00%)
Republican:———————326 (28.8%)
Democrats:———————437 (38.6%)
Independents:—————–370 (32.7%)

Who knew the Independent party was larger than the Republican party?

And more importantly, why the hell didn’t the MSM cover the Independent Party Convention?

Comment by benny | 2008-09-18 01:35:47

Independent Party Convention. lol

This is just one poll at one point in time. Thus is just people responding to the economic news of the last few days. There is still lots of time to bring down Obama. Also, what is the margin of error for the poll? I an not too worrrued at this point.

Comment by lombardi77 | 2008-09-18 01:45:55

They are using old party ID numbers. The Dems had a 10% lead in July but by Sept 11 (Gallup) the numbers are 35% Dem, 30% Repub. and 29% Ind. The break down would be 396 Dems 340 Reps and 329 Ind. I have a feeling this would change the poll numbers.

the MSM and public infatuation? are you kidding me with that? all the MSM and the democratic public did was lie and spread nasty rumors about her. Have you seen her rallies and watched her speak. Women have moved to the Palin side in huge numbers. 24% of Clinton supporters are still not on the terrorist (I mean Obama) bandwagon. And a swing of 38% of the Jewish vote to McCain in NY tells me the “infatuation” ain’t over yet.

Comment by Monet | 2008-09-18 02:25:38

Interesting poll. The independents are rising, distancing themselves from affiliation with either party while some have chosen Senator Obama. Democratic leaning independents and Democrats fled the DNC in June. Many chose Senator McCain before the conventions. A sizable number leaned towards Senator McCain after the announcement of that Governor Palin would be the running mate. The Governor was sequestered for two weeks, which built more hype for her. But when people finally heard more from her than her stump speech, many began having second thoughts. This poll would indicate they moved back to independent or Democratic status, with many of them moving their support towards Senator Obama.

It’s too soon for a poll to reflect the latest financial crisis with any accuracy, but there’s been enough time since the Gibson interview to have an effect.

If that is what has happened – people fear she’s another rock star with no substance and too far to the right conservative policies, the McCain campaign has to reassure people that Governor Palin’s conservative personal beliefs (religious, pro-life, let’s drill in every backyard in the country- especially in Alaska, forget about the cute polar bears, caribou and wolves, etc.) won’t become part of the McCain administration’s policies. If they can do that while reassuring people she will quickly gain knowledge in foreign and domestic affairs, they can probably turn the polls around and bring back many of the people who were threw their support towards Senator McCain because of Governor Palin and have now defected.

I watched the Hannity interview with her tonight. She answers the questions easily. But as a viewer, I get the feeling if Hannity had asked her to be more detailed, to expand on her answers, she wouldn’t have been able to do so. She can recite the script, but explaining it may be another matter. She keeps to the party line’s talking points unless the question involves something she’s comfortable with, Alaska, her family and her dealings with Senator McCain.

Comment by richasis | 2008-09-18 02:35:46

yours is a lucid, thoughtful observation. we shall see…

Comment by Leisa | 2008-09-18 08:38:39

Comment by Jeremiah God Damn Amerikkka Wright | 2008-09-18 04:26:54

yup. Primarily identify the states that are toss ups and will swing the election one way or the other.

Secondarily watch the leaners.

The Debates will influence both of those sets.

As will 527 ads and the upcoming and unavoidable obama biden gaffe fest.

Yes. Exactly. I am sure this type of mechanism has been used for a long time. Anytime any article even remotely negative about Obama is published – anywhere in the world – the Obamatrons swoop down like a Hitler Blitzkrieg Luftwaffe and attack. I’ve seen this on English language news sites in Japan, India, Scandinavia, Europe, and of course the UK. I’ve witnessed it for nearly a year at YouTube and even more at Digg – and especially here you see how effective this ‘army’ can be. Because all the infantry have to do is ‘view’ and ‘digg’ up or (at YouTube) rate 5 stars – a few mouse clicks. All things pro-Obama get modded up by a battalion even as all things more intelligent and reflective get totally buried. And the crap miraculously rises to the top. It’s the new form of Internet ‘democracy’. [It's fascism.] There is no other way things like this could happen this fast.

This election is not about party anymore, it’s about your basic freedoms. if obama get away with this bull what’s next? I think we sent the world a very bad message when we allowed George Bush to plant his behind in the white house twice without when the outcomes were unclear. We literally sent a message that we dont’ care, who wins or how they win. Obama has been hand pick to be president and they think we won’t fight back.

You are so right. That’s something we have to hope and pray we never see. Ever. That’s the lesson learned from the Second World War, thank you. ;)

There are some things that simply cannot be entertained under any circumstances. Obama’s ‘national socialism’ and the mood surrounding his ‘persona’ are two good examples.

If it does not stop in November it will go bad, very bad. And few people have taken the time to see how that scenario really plays.

They should.

It’s time to stop these people.

4chan has been described as an ‘Internet hate machine’. That’s fairly applicable. But then again the Obama bots are the same thing. Here first is an article from the LA Times.
4Chan’s half-hack of Palin’s email goes awry

In perhaps the most astonishing development yet for the culture of online troublemakers, 4chan.org’s /b/ board (see a few of their past exploits here and here ) apparently managed this morning to take over the e-mail account of vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin. The generally apolitical 4chan pranksters, who have now been widely profiled in the media, are known less for their social activism than for their propensity for pulling online stunts designed to evoke maximum anger, shock and disgust.

But now the anonymous participants on 4chan’s /b/ bulletin board–the home base of their community and launching pad for their pranks–seem to feel they blew a chance to do some real damage.

According to accounts so far, and chatter on /b/ itself, shortly after the password information to Palin’s account was posted on the board, the account became inaccessible, either because too many people tried to access it at once, or because a dissenter from within /b/ changed the password.

Either way, the amount of information retrieved from the Palin account appears to be relatively small. A screen shot of Palin’s account shows it contained 84 unread e-mails and possibly hundreds more, but only two have made their way online, suggesting the rest were not saved before the account was locked. If they were, wouldn’t we have seen them online by now?

“/b/ is now ‘epic fail /b/’ for not finding anything good in Palin’s e-mail,” wrote one anonymous commenter on the site, slamming the board with /b/’s highest-order insult. “Seriously, /b/. We could have changed history and failed, epically.”

“I agree,” said another. “This is epic fail. How can there not be something good in those messages?”

One of the bits of data that appears to have been taken from the account is a text-only list of all the e-mails contained in its Inbox, including the subjects and names of the senders. The list, linked here, looks authentic and matches with the data in the screenshots of the account. (Note: this link was having trouble Wednesday night because of interest in this story.)

The list contains several interesting-looking entries, including several from Palin’s chief of staff Mike Nizich labeled “FW: CONFIDENTIAL Ethics Matter” and “RE: Request for Information and Documents,” one by Palin aide Ivy Frye titled “veep talking pts” and a variety of others relating to judicial nominations, policy points and personnel and budget issues in the Alaska government.

Illegal invasion of privacy and e-mail hijacking will never be an acceptable way to express your political views, or your nihilistic lack thereof, or whatever was motivating the /b/ participants. So there’s probably some poetic justice in the ending of this episode: This frenzied crew, having decided to break the law in order to gain access to a possible political motherlode managed–amazingly–to do little more than lock themselves out of it without having found much at all.

Here is the website itself.

Here is a really incendiary YouTube clip they’ve published – beware: this is incendiary.

I’m in shock. This is the cumulatively the greatest threat to democracy we’ve had since World War 2. Why? Because the whole world has gone bloody mad. It’s the perfect greenhouse for anarchy, fascism, you name it. The time is bad. Banks closing, subprime, Putin in Georgia, wars, collapsed economies, stock exchanges worldwide in a tailspin – can’t someone recognise this and do something to stop it?

Comment by kgirl1028 | 2008-09-18 02:23:07

Exactly! And i’m sick of them, I can not live with people like that on a day to day basis, I have a BS limit. YOu can and will not tell me what i can and can not say or do. We take to much crap from people as is, freedom of speech is something i’ll give up without a fight. Hit these people where it hurts while you still can or you will be sorry you didn’t. obama is giving them instructions to get in the face of independents and republicans. HOw the hell do these people get away with this?

Comment by Zelda Crunch | 2008-09-18 02:36:30

How they get away with it? Ask Tom Jefferson. They get away with it because the good people don’t stop them. Because the good people don’t organise as much or as well as the evil people. Because it takes an ungodly long time for good people to mobilise, agree there’s a common threat, and do something about it.

I am certainly not pointing fingers here. But you can point just about anywhere else and hit a bullseye.

Comment by tzada | 2008-09-18 07:14:57

Throughout history, it has been the inaction of those who could have acted, the indifference of those who should have known better, the silence of the voice of justice when it mattered most, that has made it possible for evil to triumph.

McCain-Palin 2008 Launches “Honest and Open Election Committee”
ARLINGTON, VA — The McCain-Palin 2008 campaign today announced the formation of the Honest and Open Election Committee, with a mission to ensure that every qualified citizen has the opportunity to vote in a fair and transparent manner. The committee will work with state and local election officials to anticipate, and where possible resolve in advance, problems likely to arise on Election Day.

Look to the caucus and ACORN PROOF. Time is short, act today. Make up a short list of one or two provable LIES coming from Obama, send out information by email to your contacts, ask them to send them on. Take a walk through your neighborhood and pass out fliers. We can become 527. It will cost us little and may save our world.

The Swamp: WGN-AM again target of Obama campaign

Chicago radio station WGN-AM is again coming under attack from the presidential campaign of Sen. Barack Obama for offering airtime to a controversial author.

Here we go again – the totalitarian Obama brigade out to quash any dissenting opinion. I’m wondering, however, how long the Swamp will keep today’s breaking story out about Obama secretly negotiating with the Iraqi government to prolong the war in Iraq so he can score political points. Just to think, I once admired a man that I now consider a sociopath and a traitor. Bye Barry – you belong behind bars now. I hope those who you caused to be unnecessarily killed and wounded in Iraq haunt you for the rest of your days.

Please tell me how this is different from Hitler’s brown shirts?

Obama Action Wire

The author of the latest anti-Barack hit book is appearing on WGN Radio in the Chicagoland market tonight, and your help is urgently needed to make sure his baseless lies don’t gain credibility.

David Freddoso has made a career off dishonest, extreme hate mongering, even calling legislation to protect people from hate crimes the “Thought Police.”

And WGN apparently thinks this card-carrying member of the right-wing smear machine needs a bigger platform for his lies and smears about Barack Obama – on the public airwaves.

Freddoso will be on WGN tonight from 9:00 to 11:00 to promote his new attack book against Barack.

Tell WGN that by providing Freddoso with airtime, they are legitimizing baseless attacks from a smear merchant and lowering the standards of political discourse.

Call into the “Extension 720″ show with Milt Rosenberg at (312) 591-7200

(Show airs from 9:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. tonight)

Then report back on your call at http://my.barackobama.com/WGNstandards

A couple weeks ago, we asked you to call into Rosenberg’s radio show when he hosted unapologetic smear artist Stanley Kurtz’ incoherent rantings about Barack and William Ayers.

And you responded. Rosenberg’s producer said the flood of calls and emails the show received was the biggest response ever for something like this.

Calling will only take a minute, and it will make a huge difference if we show that our grassroots movement can go toe-to-toe with their media smear machine.

Confront Freddoso tonight before this goes any further:

http://my.barackobama.com/WGNstandards

Please forward this email to everyone you know who can make a call tonight.

Keep fighting the good fight,

Obama Action Wire

I read this book, and it was good. There is nothing to do with obama’s religon or possible muslim back ground. It’s as impartial as and well written as you can get, considering every one has bias. and thats what has obama running scared. this book should be up held as one of the best pieces of investigative journalism written in the last year. It’s the standard we should hold all journalist to. If we come out of this election season intact. I’m goning to go out of my way to figure out how in the hell we can put some reigns on our run away press. yes i believe the press has it’s freedom, but when it starts to stick it’s nose into who we elect, and stiffle freedom of speech, and no longer has any regard for the truth, it’s time to give them a reality check.

I saw we not export but deport. And I say we keep it as cheap as possible. No first class ticket, no tourist or economy class ticket either. Putting him in the cargo is better; better still if it’s in a pine box (or cardboard box as that’s even cheaper). Trump, never shy with his opinions, went on to say that McCain appears to be winning, and that Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) should have chosen Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-N.Y.) as his running mate.

Comment by John Smith | 2008-09-18 02:39:12

What is all the fuss about?

Let me start with the polls from OCT 11 2004.
Kerry 280 – Bush 254
http://www.electoral-vote.com/evp2004/Pres/Maps/Oct11.html
Does this not look familiar. Did anybody think that Bush with a 45 to 48 % approval rating going up against a veteran from Vietnam and Senator of 16 years could win? Especially since he was not truly elected in 2000. Everybody in the democratic circles had a sence that the wrongs of 2000 will be corrected and we will finally get a President in the White House who understood our problems and will put an end to the Iraq war. On Nov 1st thinks looked even better.

Kerry 298 – Bush 231
http://www.electoral-vote.com/evp2004/Pres/Maps/Nov01.html

On Nov 5th 2004, however, those hops died and everybody tried to find somebody to blame. I think it really came down to the fact that Kerry could not connect with the voters. How many of you voted for him and could never really get excited about his campaign.

This year thing have not really changed. It will all come down to PA,OH, MI and VA

Let’s take PA for example.

Hillary won PA primaries by 55% (1.275 million). BO got about 1.04 million votes. That is 200K + difference. The 2004 election was decided by 144K votes. It will take no more then 20% of Hillary voters defecting to McCain to turn the state red. That is smaller then the 25% who said they will vote for McCain if Obama becomes the nominee in the exit polls. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/04/22/pennsylvania-exit-polls-p_n_98067.html.

So we just have to be patient and let the election run its course. The debates will be interesting. I am curious how much time Obama is spending preparing for it. There are reports out there that he is using a teleprompter on all his event from here on out. That is good to keep him on message but bad for preparing for the debates. I have a feeling Obama will give very generic responses to most questions. There will be on specifics. Also I suspect that the questions will be provided ahead of time to the campaigns.

Comment by Ted Kennedy's Swim Coach | 2008-09-18 13:57:40

Great post. This election also has some elements of 1992 when the Repub party vote was fractured and Ross Perot siphoned off about 20% of voters. McCain/Palin have siphoned off Hillary’s supporters. Good times.

I can’t wait to watch the First Dude win the Ironman competition!

Yeah he’s a cool guy. Totally cool. America needs more people like him.

Now I need to hunt through Fox News’s site and find the other three parts, but thought you’d enjoy seeing this.

All four links (and more) were posted in another thread yesterday. They’re namely at YouTube too.

Kerry like Obama, never sat well with me. I voted for Nader.
This year I will vote for McCain. Hillary was screwed out of the nomination and I will not support the guy that did it.

Most people do not agree with you, since the ratings for the shows on Palin are through the roof.

More viewers watched McCain and Palin give their speeches than Obama Bin Biden.
So it is Barry that is putting Americans to sleep!

At this point, children should be kept out of politics as it’s dangerous to their emotional and mental health. Sarah’s children were no doubt proud and excited for their mother and instead they experienced personal smears and social cruelty that few of us have experienced as adults. When I think of what has been done to Sarah’s teenager and her little baby I become furious. I hope they keep these kids away from the public eye now. What a vicious country we have become.

Yes, all children should be kept out of politics. It amazes me that the party I used to identify with as being open minded and inclusive has been so cruel.
