In Michigan, A Tight Race — Still Obama by Three
By Charles Lemos on September 20, 2008 at 5:45 AM in Michigan

A new poll in Michigan (link is to US Census demographic data) from WXYZ and the Detroit Free Press points to tight and tightening race with Senator Obama leading Senator McCain by three points. The previous poll from Rasmussen Reports had Obama leading by five points. This new poll seems consistent with the dynamic at play in Michigan.
Michigan voters are weighing in on the race for the White House. The latest results are in from an exclusive WXYZ-TV/Detroit News poll which shows that the presidential race is extremely tight. Experts say it could all come down to Michigan in this historic election.
The exclusive poll shows the race getting even closer, with Barack Obama leading John McCain 43% to 42% with a 4 point margin of error. When Michigan voters were asked to consider both tickets, now that both running mates have been chosen, Obama’s lead jumps slightly to 45% compared to McCain’s 42%.
For the first time, our exclusive poll is showing how Michigan voters feel about McCain’s Vice Presidential Pick, Sarah Palin. When asked if Sarah Palin should John McCain not be able to serve out his term, 43% of Michigan voters polled said yes compared to 47% who said no.
According to the poll, an overwhelming 73% of voters are convinced that the U.S. is headed in the wrong direction, while 80% believe Michigan is on the wrong track.
Three issues concern Michigan voters the most, according to latest poll results. The economy is at the top of the list, followed by protecting America from terrorism and health care.
THE ENTIRE POLL IS POSTED BELOW WITH THE ACTUAL QUESTIONS THAT VOTERS WERE ASKED. 602 PEOPLE WERE SURVEYED AND THERE IS A MARGIN OF ERROR OF ±4%.

Takeaways
Michigan went both for Al Gore in 2000 and for John Kerry in 2004. Senator Kerry carried Michigan by 3.42%. Obama has to hold both Michigan and Pennsylvania and pry away one other state with at least five Electoral College votes into his column. So far, that seems doable if not likely with races in Virginia and Colorado running neck and neck. For McCain right now Pennsylvania, where the race is in a dead heat, seems the likelier bet to secure the White House.
Worrisome for McCain is the fact that 73% of Michigan voters think that country is headed in the wrong direction and that 42% tied McCain to the policies of the Bush Administration. The biggest negative for Obama was his perceived lack of experience but even then only 28% saw that as a problem. Michigan may well likely be one of the few states that decide the race and at this point reading the numbers underneath the overall number show Obama likely holding onto Michigan and thus probably winning the White House. The other state to watch is Pennsylvania.
Michigan has 17 Electoral College votes.

Thanks for this article! I would love to see what the readers of NoQuarter would think if asked the same questions to follow:
Somehow Michigan missed much of what Obama is about. I wouldn’t quite count out Michigan yet. My biggest concern for this state is ACORN and hearing repeatedly from precinct leaders that they will turn out the state for Obama.
UGHHHHHH!
THIS IS SCARY! My GOD if uhbama wins I’m going to be physically ill for 4 years..I hate the goddamn racebaiting empty suit.
HATE
I know. I totally feel the same way!!!!
But let’s try NOT to use the word “hate” when we speak outside this community because they will paint us as “emotional and bitter”.
Let’s frame them as the haters because they ARE and let’s use phrases like “despise Obama”, “pitty the small-minded racebaiter”.
Right. We all know we’re really a hate-based site, but let’s not say that to anyone else because we don’t want them to know that. LOL. Nice.
What I love about this poll is the confirmation of what I’ve been saying for days: Palin is a drag on the ticket. Indies don’t like her. She’s the least popular of the four candidates, when two weeks ago she was the most popular. What does that tell us? She’s a loser. Not ready for prime time, and people know it.
No Way,NoHow,NoBama
I agree. Dont count out Michigan yet…BUT PAY VERY CLOSE ATTENTION TO WHAT IS GOING ON THERE…

Obama Front Group Busted For Voter Registration Fraud In Michigan
The stakes in this election could not be higher. Democrats are frustrated by the red state electoral college majority that has emerged in recent presidential elections. By hook or crook, they are determined to win back the presidency. To this end, we’ve been told about the millions of new registered voters Democrats have added to the election rolls this year. The group at the forefront of this effort is the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN), a group with which Sen. Barack Obama worked closely as a community organizer and which is now spearheading his voter registration and GOTV efforts. In Michigan, a key battleground state where Obama is struggling against McCain, ACORN has registered 200,000 new voters in recent months. Election officials are only now beginning to uncover massive fraud committed by those “paid workers” of ACORN. The Detroit Free Press reports:
“Somehow Michigan missed much of what Obama is about.”
Probably because Senator Obama didn’t show up in Michigan to campaign until May. He avoided the state until then, no visits, no campaign literature, no ads. The only two candidates who made any effort to campaign in Michigan during the primaries were Senator Clinton and Mitt Romney.
There is a strong likelihood that the electoral vote will come down to Michigan which is why ACORN is busy stacking the deck.
The area of Michigan that decides whether the state goes Democratic or Republican is the southeast corner from Saginaw down to Detroit. It’s the union sector of the state. This area of the state has health care through the Big 3 (GM, Ford and Chrysler) and are scared to death of universal health care. They believe the stories of having to wait six months in Canada to get an x-ray or emergency surgery.
The rest of the state tends to be conservative, a mix of upper middle class economic conservatives, lots of card carrying NRA hunters (including businesses that rely on the fall hunting season to make a profit for the year) and the religious right.
In most elections it comes down to who the union members decide to vote for. The economically conservative, the religious right and the NRA card carriers can’t overcome the union vote.
But, Senator Obama hasn’t been courting the unions. He’s treated them like he has women, the Clinton Democrats, etc. The unions leadership aren’t happy with him. The union workers aren’t worried about health care. Many are anti-affirmative action, having “known” someone’s whose brother-in-law’s cousin lost a job to a minority. This is an election where the union worker may very well cross party lines and vote for Senator McCain. They’ve done it before, voting for Reagan. If Senator McCain can get his message across that he will improve the economy and Senator Obama will screw it up, they will cross party lines.
However, Michigan women aren’t overly excited about Governor Palin. At first they were impressed. But after three weeks of the airwaves being dominated by Governor Palin, as one of my neighbors said, if she sees Governor Palin on tv one more time, she’s going to scream. They’re so tired of hearing her rah rah reform they’re ready to pack her back to Alaska. The Palin-hype has worn off quickly here.
The professional economically conservative men who are also pro-NRA like Governor Palin. They have yet to turn against her and as more than one of my male neighbors have said, they were going to sit the presidential vote out until Governor Palin was added to the Republican ticket because they believed the Democratic union vote would carry the state and they weren’t impressed with Senator McCain.
Michigan is very much a toss-up and it’s anyone’s guess how it will go. The union worker can swing it towards McCain. But there’s the over 40 woman vote who are already sick of Governor Palin who Senator McCain sees as his ace in the hole for the woman vote. Michigan women are sick of her and with seven weeks to go until the election they may well stop an union vote swing.
More than likely it’s going to come down to the economy. The crunch of oil prices, mortgages, falling house prices, layoffs, the demise of the construction industry, closing of small businesses, etc. had an early impact in Michigan – long before the rest of the nation felt it. The candidate that reassures the Michigan voter he’ll improve the economy, provide jobs that keep people solidly in the middle class, protects their checking and investment accounts may be the candidate that carries Michigan.
Senator McCain bounced from one goof to another on the economy this past week. Senator Obama has told the voters he’ll get back to them later on the economic crisis. A good thing for McCain is that his union voters already have among the best in health care in the country and they don’t want to see their tax dollars going to universal health care. He already has the male NRA vote and the religious right vote, he needs the union and moderate and liberal women vote. McCain needs to hit Michigan hard now with an economic plan that they understand. Not rhetoric and promises. A plan. And he has to do it before Senator Obama does and he has to keep Governor Palin in the background. If he does, he may very well take the union vote and the women vote, which will have him carrying the entire state.
Thanks for your very interesting perspective!
I haven’t met anyone who is sick of Sarah at this point, only those who don’t believe she’s going to have a chance to take on those opportunities and challenges she’s mentioned. I know of a few people who don’t trust her because of the negative ads that have portrayed her as a book-banning, creationist-mandating, anti-abortion activist–all of which is known to be untrue.
I guess in a few weeks we’ll have a few debates behind us and things will stabilize, one way or another and I wish the candidates had agreed to more so we can see how they think on their feet. My feeling is McCain will smoke Obama and I think Palin would smoke him too if she had half a chance.
Keep an eye on the voter registration in Detroit–the US Attorney MAY get involved in inconsistencies being reported.
Obama will get back to you next week on the economy, WTH kind of answer is that. He cannot make a decision if his life depended on it.
Pass this on to the unions, Obama’s voting record on NAFTA & other issues.

I live across from Detroit, MI in ON,Canada the trade btwn both countries is vital for a good economy with over 18,000 transport trucks crossing daily on the Ambassador Bridge for the Big 3 auto plants/suppliers & other goods.
Obama is so wrong, Mccain is better & Hillary would have been the best choice but will have to wait til 2012 due to the crooked dnc tactics pulled on her. IMO.
Unfortunately racism is going to play handily in this election. There are op-eds popping up all over the place but one that is of interest is on RCP.
It states its case of racism then at the end concludes that it won’t be racism that takes Obama down. It will be Obama.

The elephant in the room (no pun intended).
Personally i just don’t like the guy and still want to know what he has done to qualify to be POTUS.
Since I can’t have HRC then I’ll vote for the guy that knows his way around the dance floor.
Racism?
The number of people who voted for Obama only because he is AA far outnumbers the few who won’t vote for him because he is AA.
amen to that
yes that is beyond obvious
THAT is the HUGE DONKEY in the room isn’t it?
NO one will admit the REAL truth in this for fear of being called a name. (THE MSM not the People)
I suppose they have to WORK with those people AFTER saying it. Maybe it wouldn’t be pretty?
It’s been years since I’ve been back in that position of working alongside dozens of other people and being judged on literally the lipstick I pick and the way I refuse to make anyone coffee because I don’t drink it myself. OH well. Make me a pitcher of Ice Tea and I’ll consider it. Although you won’t like it. hehe!
Both of you are missing the point…please read the articles.
The AP story is beginning to hit the major news outlets now.
I did, although my mind switched off when I got to some factoid about white poll respondents agreeing with at least one negative about blacks. Sensors detect push-polling and conflating studies without enough methodological detail for the reader to see what is really happening.
It looks like the race card is going to be their weapon now and their excuse later. Well, that is predictable. Equally predictable is that it will be used to further the culture of victimhood that apparently so many blacks have adopted. This is the bad part, the part to be avoided. It IS Soetoro who is obnoxious, inadequate, even criminal, but this character aspect is not going to be accepted by the people who have invested so heavily in the color of their skin being the source of all difficulty in life.
Indeed, I agree with the above that if 13% of the population votes for Soetoro based only on his skin color, there would have to be 13% voting against only on skin color to balance that out, and I think that degree of prejudice no longer exists. Maybe it’s the cities I’m familiar with, though (California and Arizona).
Thanks for reading it! I really believe that the Bradley effect will play itself out.
I read a quote recently by Donna Brazile that if Obama loses the election it doesn’t mean that he “loses”. It means that America wasn’t ready.
(Sorry Donna, I don’t think Barry is ready)
Keith Olbermann will have years of material for Special Comments about racism and of course voter fraud.
It will never be that Obama lost the election because of Obama.
Kwame is going to jail on Oct. 28 so he won’t be helping his buddy Obama get out the vote.
UNITED NATIONS – Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad put Barack Obama on the spot Thursday, offering to debate with both U.S. presidential candidates when he arrives at the United Nations next week for its annual summit.
Obama said early in his campaign that he would be prepared to meet the leaders of U.S. foes such as Iran and Syria.
Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad says he’ll gladly debate Barack Obama.
HA. He was afraid to debate Hillary and refused townhalls with McCain, no way he’d debate the Iran leader or even have the courage to talk to him without an earpiece or a teleprompter.
He just got into the news for talking to the Iraq leader behind closed doors.
bobo the clown would start WWIII.
bemused,
Good points.
If this is what is happening in Michigan then I think that the African AMerican community members that DO NOT support Sen Obama need to raise their voice a little louder and explain to the AA community-especially ion Michigan- why it is not good for the AA community-and America in general too-to vote for Sen Obama.
This race has NEVER BEEN an issue for millions of voters. Unfortunately, Obama campaign has made it into one to divide and conquer.

It is “Why Chicagoans are Against Obama.” That is a really good video that shows what America can expect from Obama.
Obama is not the alternative to McCain.
The DNC gave us no alternative.
Guess the people of Michigan forgot that the DNC turned them into half people and decided their uncomitted voters really wanted to vote for barky. Was the Bradley effect figured into these polls?
Another note, in my small town in Mo which has always been a given for democrats, there are nothing but McCain-Palin yard sighs. Seems like those gun-totin, bible thumpin, small town, redneck, trailer trash really know what is best for the country.
Judy, in my opinion this group is the one that is really in touch w everything. The middle class, down in the trenches people.
I don’t see how in the world people in Michigan could even be considering Obama after what he did.
Could it be “he” did nothing at all, and the people of Michigan are simply smarter than you?
Is this website going to be filled with sour conspiracy theorists forever?
Seriously, get over yourselves.
I live in Michiganistan and we all know what happened. Obama got 45% of the Delegates and he wasn’t even on the Ballot, I guess they call that Democracy in affirmative action at the DNC. I voted for DEMS for almost 40 years but I’m voting Straight Republican this year, they even had Carl Levin up there trying to sell that Hoax, he should be ashamed of himself.

Obama & Vote Theft
Yes, this website is going to be filled with sour conspiracy theorists. If you think they’re sour now, wait until Election Day, when they have to deal with the fact that Obama really is going to be the next president. Things are going to get ugly here .I can’t wait.
“Guess the people of Michigan forgot that the DNC turned them into half people and decided their uncomitted voters really wanted to vote for barky”
Michigan hasn’t forgotten. However, on the crisis list in Michigan, it doesn’t make the list.
Five years ago, seventy year old Michigan small businesses that were making $4 million or more a year are closing their doors and liquidating. Radio Shacks in small towns are barely paying their bills most months. Even Arby’s in small towns are closing the doors.
The mortgage mess was felt early on in Michigan. There are Detroit suburbs with half the houses on a block in foreclosure or have been foreclosed on.
Auto workers who were laid off an year ago and were told not to expect to go back to work until early 2009, now expect they won’t be going back to work in 2009 at all.
The average Michigan voters are people who are laid off, working two or three minimum wage jobs, worried about losing their job, worried about paying the mortgage and keeping the heat on this winter, putting gas in their car to get to work without maxing out the credit card, worried their 401ks and investment accounts aren’t going to recover, etc… really don’t give a darn about the DNC machinations. These days the upper middle class don’t go to the grocery store without a fistful of coupons. What they want is an economic plan that benefits Michigan. That’s all.
If Senator McCain can give them that, they’ll vote for him. Otherwise, the state will remain a toss-up with both candidates in a dead heat until late on election night.
From talking w others, alot of people are just completely out of touch about what is going on and what is important. Last night a friend said something about McCain looks like he has no neck and she’s worried about Palin not having enough experience to take over if something were to happen to McCain. I said well she’s got more experience than Obama who is running for President so I don’t understand what the concern is about?? She didn’t answer me. And people saying they’re voting for Obama because he’s “cute”….you’ve got to be kidding me…these are some of the voters that help elect the leader of this country. When people talk about Obama they don’t talk about what he stands for, they
I think if the Republicans had not cheated by getting Bush into the WH w for 8 years, this would be a cakewalk for them. Now the Obama campaign thinks that is acceptable. It wasn’t acceptable for then and it isn’t acceptable now. This shit has to stop. We have serious problems to solve and Obama is as crooked as they come. He’s all tied up w Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac who have singlehandedly brought our economy down into a crisis and PEOPLE STILL THINK HE WOULD BE A GOOD LEADER. YOU’VE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME??
I would not worry to much about those people. They are also the once that won’t have time to go down to the voting booth because they might have to stand in line for an hour.
Like the Youth vote…they never come out.
I’ve found similar attitudes with people I’ve spoken to in Michigan. It seems the busier someone is, the less they know about the candidates. I know a lot of people (in Michigan) that are working multiple jobs and barely have time to sleep. They haven’t heard much beyond the Rev. Wright fiasco. Whatever news they get on the candidates is fed by the extremely pro-Obama mainstream media which is even less critical of him then the national MSM.
Don’t get me wrong, there are a lot of HRC supporters here that are extremely informed and are angry at the way our local Dems screwed up our primaries. Unfortunately, a lot of hard-working blue collar dems haven’t had time to read NoQuarter and what we really know about Obama is so extremely bad that few would even believe it if they saw it on a 527.
Who says Obama has no accomplishments? He’s made America forget six years of Republican screw-ups.
Seems weird does it not. How all of a sudden Bush’s approval numbers are starting to go up. He might make it up to 40 before Nov 4th.
On what day, it dipped to 27% last week.
Shows people on this website exist in an alternate reality.
IT’S STILL BETTER THAN THIS DEMOCRAT-LED CONGRESS
LOL, good point.
Racial views steer some white Dems away from Obama
http://news.aol.com/article/racial-views-steer-some-white-dems-away/181935?cid=3272
Hey kat..the only thing i see radical is stealing two states votes by a Thug whos good buddies are terrorists..who’s minister says GOD DAMNED AMERICA..who had to buy his first house with the help of a now convicted criminal..a guy who voted present more than he ever voted and when he did vote he voted against most main stream democratic values..who signed off on FISA and Imunity for the people who most likely committed treason on the american people….
Kat it is obvious you are one of the “low information” voters..or are you just plain stupid??????
I am one he stole the vote from..and i damn well know who did it and why..
And I am white.as is Obama..and he can go fuck himself..got that????
And I don’t give a shit who it is..you steal my vote..I pray you rot in hell..but you will never ever ever get my vote!
People sacrificed their lives for my vote…they fought and died for my vote…but not that “whitey obama”..fuck no ..he never sacrificed a god damned thing for this country!
Not a damn thing!
Voter for McCain/Palin proudly!
PUMA..
ya see Kat some of us value our votes..unlike you who think nothing of people having their votes stolen..
I would bet the farm you have done as much for this country as Obama has….NADA!
PS…. ..married to a dual minority…with children that are dual minorities.
…is this a satire?
I’m a PUMA.
Re-read my post. It says “racial,” not “radical.”
Believe me, I understand your sentiment though.
Since the above article was a polling piece, I thought I would submit a brand new one hot off the AP.
I think the Bradley Effect will come into play in a big way come Nov. 4.
The MSM and corporations will rig the general election for Obama. They are parasites that have latched on the Dems and have rammed the Obama puppet down our throats just like they did bush and the Iraq war. They are pure evil who have hijacked our country and thrown the people under the bus.
WE ARE IN BIG TROUBLE AND THE MEDIA IS ALREADY SET TO CALL THIS ELECTION FOR OBAMA JUST LIKE THEY DID IN 2000 FOR BUSH.
Yes, and according to MSNBC, Obama won the election a few months ago. It amazes me that people don’t see how much like Bush, Obama is. And they don’t seem to recognize how the media is in the tank for him.
Why would the people of MI WASTE their vote on the Dem. nominee? Did they forget the DNC tried to toss their votes into the trash can? The need to be reminded.
No, they are rational, intelligent people. Unlike the lot of you.
Not like people like you, who are ignorant to Obama’s never-ending list of corruption.
A democratic candidate should be widening a lead at this point. Republican candidates tend to close late. The fact that Obama is slipping in MI convinces me he will lose any state where he does not have a 10 point lead right now. Read that again. Obama will lose any state where he does not have a 10 point lead now, and maybe some where he does. People are only now beginning to find out about Obama. The election will be about Obama, not about McCain or Bush or Palin. Consider that the republican 527s haven’t even fired a shot yet. Obama is toast.
Make it so.
Obama has changes his views on so many things it stands to reason that it will be exploited. It is healthy for there to be a free exchange of ideas…and the campaign and the debates will do just that.
Obama will have a difficult time taking half a sentence and putting out hit pieces on McCain , if people have seen the whole sentence in the debate.
Meanwhile, Joe Biden is always good for a few laughs…
You make a good point Shiloh.
The Independents/Undecided voters will likely break for McCain something like 60-70% because they normally with the more familiar or better known candidate. Plus, they are largely white, (lower) middle class, older — more his natural demographic.
What worries me is that there is a decent chance the discipline of Obama’s ground troops, GOTV operation, voter registration, etc. will neutralize that advantage or even make it a net gain.
McCain/Palin definately need to get busy organizing their people. I saw the first Repub office in Indiana yesterday (had heard there weren’t any) but looked more like an empty storefront for show than a serious recruitment effort. They’re also not advertising here. I’d be the first in line to volunteer if there is anything going on.
Obama has been doing campaign work and advertising heavily in the state since May. He is also leading in one new poll and outperformed the expectations in the primary in a state that hasn’t voted Dem in a Presidental Election since 1968 — so I still doubt it will, but if Indiana slips away, I’m afraid it’s pretty much all out the door for McCain.
What’s pretty interesting regarding how BHO is spending is that he is advertising here in MA. Why oh why would his campaign feel the need to advertise here in good old reliable blue, blue MA?
Internal polling telling them some hard truths?
Well, I guess it’s because he lost MA to Hillary and knows how unhappy many people are with Kerry, Kennedy, and Axelrod spawn Deval Patrick.
Because, as you say, McCain is the well known candidate, he can employ a late blitz strategy while Obama has to try to create foundations to make himself credible to swing voters. I wouldn’t be too concerned about the race at this point based on which horse appears to be in front.
If Mich, Pennsy, Ohio,Wisc,Minn And even NJ, are this close now,Mcain Palin will win in November! these are state for the most part should be in the D column by and large at this point in time especially withthe economy in rough waters. Plus Obama now has to walk through a minefield without a mine detector right now with all of the “new” info about to be released by Stan Kurtz ET AL. Obama will lose I have few doubts!
+1
Who’s Stan Kurtz and what new info? Any hints?

Chicago Annenberg Challenge Shutdown? By Stanley
I don’t want this election to be close.
0bama has to lose in a landslide.
I agree. I think the people of this country have to send a strong message to the DNC.
Experts said it would come down to Fla in 2000..the theft was there..
Experts said it would all come down to Ohio in 2004..the theft was there and Florida
Now Experts say it could all come down to Michigan..Obama gamed the systemn there..like he did in my state of Florida..then he stole Hillary votes to boot..why would anyone in Michigan vote for that jerk Obama?????? why???????
I am a lifelong dems..and i will never vote for the fucker who stole my vote..why would anyone?????
That is like voting for someone to steal your democracy…right in front of your face..and laughing at you!
Hell why did our fathers fight against Hitler,.all they had to do was wait here..live life with no wounds or injuries..think how many families would have been saved the pain of loss of their children..all they had to do was wait for Obama to come along!
There was no theft in 2000 or 2004. The democrats nominated weak candidates and lost. At least it was close, unlike what it will be in this year.
I live in Florida too and am still livid about what the Dems did to us. I wrote so thoughtful letters to so many of them telling them how they were screwing things up but I never received any kind of response. I eve contacted Senator Nelson to recommend that they have a mail in vote which he later tried to unsuccessfully implement. He did, by the way, respond to me with a letter.
My own kids who live in other states can’t understand why I would be upset about having my vote stripped from me and that is shocking to me! Since that day I will not discuss politics with them and when they ask if I will vote for their guy, I just say that politics no longer interests me. I truly feel raped by the Dems and this country is so much worse off for what they did. GO McCAIN/PALIN!
Queenie, I agree 110%.
The vote stealing is the absolute deal breaker for me.
The dems have sunk so low, it breaks my heart.
As someone who was born in Michigan (do not currently live there), I know that outside the major cities, rural areas are quite Republican so its anyone’s guess how this turns out. Although both of their Senators are Dems, until a few years ago, they had a Republican Governor for a good long while.
Also from the Primary results, it appears that undecideds often break for the more experienced and/or safer choice. Those who are not already solidly in Obama’s camp could break this way in Michigan too.
Regarding the racism factor, it is often the case that when there is a greater black turnout, there is also a concurrent white turnout to counteract that. This is particularly true in the South but could also be the case in other states this time around.
My state of Tennessee has McCain up by 27 points in one poll, and yet I can travel to Virginia, in four different directions, in about 20 minutes, and the race is close!
There is simply no way to REASON this thing out!
One certainty,in my opinion, is that our country is in trouble and so divided that neither party will be allowed to govern!
Speaking of TN, that is where Gore lost not in FL. A candidate that can’t carry his home state has no business winning.
SASSY..THEY JUST WANT YOU TO THINK WE ARE THAT DIVIDED …
that way when they steal it ..people don’t revolt..they simply say..we are so divided..and go about their business..and let democracy get stripped further and further from us!!
OH and P.S.
yes, elections were stolen in Fla..i have worked on election reform in Fla since 2000..no one will tell me, when you can not audit machines..no way possible, that it was not stolen..oh and i have worked with the top experts in the country on the theft of votes in Fla..and my hubby and I paid for our counties “state audit”..to prove there was no way possible to audit the damn machines..i have also been a poll worker and poll watcher for the dem party..yes the machines were hacked and yes elections were stolen in Fla.
I’m in Eastern TN, and I’m familiar with only one person who supports Oblockhead and his support is “iffy”. I cannot fathom how these polls come up with their results, except that statistics is one of the three kinds of lies, the others being lies and damned lies.
Another thing that may help McCain in Michigan is Obama’s link to the ex-Detroit mayor Kwame Kilpatrick, found guilty of a variety of charges and fired by Granholm.
I live in Ann Arbor and about to move to Houston. In my neighborhood, I see only Obama yard signs, but that is not surprising, considering it’s home of U of Michigan, one of most liberal universities around and strongly committed to affirmative action even when Michigan residents voted against using quotas in admissions.
I and my husband are strong Hillary supporters and campaigned for her in Ohio and Indiana. We will vote by absentee ballot even though we would already be working in Texas; figured that it would mean a lot more to vote for McCain in Michigan than in Texas.
GREAT THINKING… RIGHT YOU ARE!
I live just ten minutes north of Ann Arbor. Obama signs are pretty rare here. Ann Arbor, its commuters, East Lansing, Detroit, and the downscale suburbs of Detroit are where the Great Black Hope will get his votes.
Friends who saw McCain/Palin in person at their Sterling Heights townhall were very impressed. There are a lot of disaffected Democrats inside the auto companies.
That’s why Obama is leaning on smears. It’s all he’s got.
Cause he’s got no record.
Mr Natural-
I can see why voters who have seen/heard McCain/Palin are very impressed.
Voters have to learn more about these two candidates.
That is why I have been cross-posting videos -such as these-produced by fellow NQ blogger (in his spare time Im sure) Paul F Villarreal
(Thanks Paul!)
Voters need to hear/see McCain/Palin speeches-in context-with no edits…
For those who are interested, here is the video of a recent McCain/Palin rally (9.19.08) in Blaine, MN:

Low information voters* who don’t know the candidates that well will determine the outcome of this election.
I think that as we get closer to November and the 527’s start to air that they will realize what a sack of empty Obama is. Also as they get to know more about Sarah Palin as opposed to the Kosian lies they will see themselves in her.
The fact that McCain/Palin is with in the margin of error should cause worry in the Democrat Party, they should be out in front by a minimum of 10 by now.
* In this case low information isn’t a slap but a description of the voters too busy with job and family to make an informed decision.
Factor in Bradley/Wilder and Obama is actually 2 points behind – disastrous for him at this stage of the cycle.
Bradley effect is actually something like 6% or more. I read that Obama has to be up by at least 7 points on day before election just to count as tied with McCain.
But there are other problems, like Nader and others taking dem votes from O. Nader could take as much as 2-3%.
We’ll see.
http://www.fivethirtyeight.com/2008/08/persistent-myth-of-bradley-effect.html
Bradley is a myth in 2008.
Tell that to Bradley.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bradley_effect
Hm, yeah…1982 isn’t 2008. Imagine that.
It isn’t a temporal effect. Try another diversion.
It must really suck to be clueless.
Can you get counseling for that?
“But there are other problems, like Nader and others taking dem votes from O. Nader could take as much as 2-3%.”
Again, where do you people get these fantasies?
Every major poll…Gallup, Rasmussen, etc…shows a wider gap for Obama when you factor in ANY 3rd party candidate. Not McCain.
The only relevant poll is the one that will take place in November. Statistics is a tool rarely used properly, especially by Obamabots.
Used properly? Statistics speak for themselves.
You folks over here don’t take kindly to facts though, it would seem.
Statistics speak for themselves. People who quote statistics use them to lie. AxelGoebbels if proficient at this.
Not one expert agrees with you. Obama killed McCain’s bounce EARLIER than expected and the numbers are only going up due to McCain horrible week last week.
+10 in Colorado according to InAdv/PollPosition.
Obama’s bounce died basically immediately after the dem convention. Palin killed it. McCain’s bounce lasted for two weeks.
BTW, it’s only on MSNBC that McCain had a “horrible week.” He and Palin bring in big crowds and are doing fine.
Have you even looked at the polls lately? Thats what this thread is about, isn’t it?

Gotta admit this about the administrations of Presidents Kerry, McGovern, Mondale, and Dukakis…
No scandals.
McCain/Palin win big to protect our country!
Most of you really don’t see what is going on. I think you all should go to “OBama’s chicago playbook” and see how he stole the election running for senator. Here in Florida, I am glad to tell you all that Our man who is in charge of overlooking the ballots has made it very difficult for Obama’s underground deceitful cheating to take place. If you don’t have a drivers license or social security card and your voting card- you cannot vote. There goes his deceitful dead people absentee ballots. I am happy that we are protected in this state. The rest of the states should do the same. This guy is determine to win and using Rush L in one of these ads down here shows you the deceit he will go to arrive to his throne.@ So, for all of you who keep telling me not to worry and stop telling the red states party to “dirty” their hands and start to play dirty- you have not seen what he did to the woman in chicago and how he stole the election. It doesn’t matter how many times you show the ads of deceit about Obama- as long as CNN and MSNBC are promoting him, nothing will be shown. Have you seen the Hacker of Palin on any of these channels more than once? No. They will not report anything negative about Obama- so if you guys don’t want to see this socialist running our country I suggest once again pounding him with the big guns over and over and over and over until the election day. Maybe within that period- CBS- BBC-Fox-Canadian Broardcast-C-span, oversea station- will help us get the message across and will force our MSM to get on board. That is my opinion.
“Have you seen the Hacker of Palin on any of these channels more than once? No. They will not report anything negative about Obama.”
This just shows the average grasp on reality the people on this website have.
The “hackers” were Anonymous, a ANARCHIST group who have been known to plant KKK material on rap websites and interracial porn on KKK websites.
Do a little research, it had nothing to do with Obama.
don’t think so…
There’s another skewing effect that doesn’t get mentioned much.
Nobody with a job, nobody with a life, nobody with a freakin’ clue
Has time to waste on the phone with one of these boring-ass pollsters.
“Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain.”
Huh? Hacker..
Mike Kernell, Democrat state representative from Tennessee (and active member of Obama’s Tennessee campaign), confirmed his son David Kernell, student at University of Tennessee-Knoxville, hacked into Sarah Palin’s yahoo email account to help SoetorObama’s struggling campaign.

please drink some more kool aid ,im not worried in fact i beleive that mac will bury him but that it wont start in earnest until after next friday.so keep cherry picking the polls you want we will see in 10 days whats up.oh and btw dont forget fitzchristmas is the end of october.bet ryan you dont even have a clue what that means.
I am so panicked about this, and other polls…
When does the McCain campaign bury this guy? Where are the 527’s?? I never thought I’d pray for 527’s to come out swinging. The ad about the Detroit mayor was ineffective, in my opinion…looked like a Willie Horton ad…
We need Rezko, ties to the Middle East, Ayers, and CORRUPTION, CORRUPTION, CORRUPTION…as well as thuggery, flip-flopping, etc. etc.
And McCain has to really define himself as the real change…and disentangle himself from Bush….What’s Bush doing now? Trying to push through rules on contraception that will anger women and help Obama?
GRRRR!
It’s still too early for panic. At least wait for the debates to change the story line. Those will have much more basis for substance, more resonance and audience than negative ads imo.
Like others have said, considering an Independent swing plus some Bradley effect/racial leakage, McCain has a buffer of 4-6 + points in all likelihood. Obama goes into election day tied and unless his ground operation is hitting all cylinders which is the worst case scenario.
But there is another Indiana poll:
CNN/Time Magazine/Opinion Research Corp. released Wednesday found McCain favored by 51 percent of likely voters and Obama supported by 45 percent.

I agree. I think the McCain camp must wait. The moderators would go after McCain in each debate for anything he does now. The media has actually been presenting that they are both lying in their ads, but the moderators for all of the debates are Obama people and the moderators will pull a Clinton on McCain to make Obama look good. I expect the campaigns to ramp up the last weeks after the debates.
527s have to be properly timed. Too early and Obama can spin, spin, spin. Too late and it does not sink in with the voters.
THIS IS TRUE. LET BARKO HANG HIMSELF.
I am astonished that anybody in Michigan would vote for Obama after the way he disrespected them inthe primary. I guess that there are Lemmings everywhere.
Hidden deep in every poll is the ” Bradley effect ” and even if some don’t believe it is real, they are going to be in for a big suprise.See the ABC article today and see the numbers as they relate to the AA community. I know that it does not make it right, but it is a fact of life today. At the low end the effect is 4 to 6% and can go as high as 15%. These are voters who say they will vote for an AA candidate, but will not for their own reasons. When you have 4 to 6 points swinging and based on which candidate they vote for, it could be as high as a 8 to 12% turn around. Based on today’s polls (which are all over the lot) Obama is in deep doo doo
Isn’t there supposed to be a truth telling advantage to robo-calling based polls ? Voters are reluctant to tell a machine they aren’t supporting a black candidate ?
Independents will in all probability break towards McCain in significant numbers. Another huge wildcard is the Obama ground machine, which is reported to be formidable. If those organizational efforts cancel out race-based poll results masking a McCain lead it’s a very plausible road to electoral victory.
I don’t believe in the Bradley Effect. Rationalization for losing by blaming it
on racism…familiar tune.
I’m perplexed how anyone could have a favorable opinion about Obama. These idiots must just sit around and watch Olberman, Mathews and the rest of the ding-a-lings in the Obama media without the sense to question anything they say.
Listening to a conservative radio station from the CA Central Valley I heard a commentary about the role of ACORN in the mortgage debacle…I wasn’t able to write down enough details but I believe they said that ACORN was at the forefront of getting financial laws passed for these home loans for the poor and people who couldn’t qualify for normal loans got them through Fanny Mae and Freddy Mac. McCain should put this together and tie it to the outrageous compensation of Obama’s friends in his campaign as well as the donations made to his campaign.
“In the election for President, if the election were held today, would you vote for John McCain the Republican, Barack Obama the Democrat, Ralph Nader the Independent, or Bob Barr the Libertarian? If you are undecided and the election were held today and you had to decide right now, which candidate would you lean toward, Obama, McCain, Nader or Barr?
43% Total Obama
42% Total McCain
2% Total Nader
2% Total Barr
10% Undecided / Don’t know / Refused”
—————————–
I couldn’t help but notice that there is a name missing from this question. I also couldn’t help noticing that the missing name belongs to a FEMALE candidate — Cynthia McKinney, of the Green Party. I checked, and yes, she will be on our ballot here in Michigan.
It just goes on, and on, and on…
IS OBAMA FAILING TO WIN BECAUSE OF RACE?
Interesting article, however it would be even more interesting to see the same kind of analysis if the black candidate was Colin Powell, or Condelza Rice. If the black candidate had more experience, and didn’t vote present over 100 times … was not so far to the left … did not propose such radical changes to our society, such as a socialistic agenda … did not have negative associations, such as 20 years tied to a Reverend Wright, and other radicals … Threw his close friend of 20 years under the bus for personal gain …did not have a Muslim name, father and step father, just 6 years after 9-11, and while America, and it’s allies is in the midst of constant attacks from murderous Muslim terrorists … was properly vetted from the beginning … did not enjoy such overwhelming biased favoritism from the media … did not arrogantly create his own Presidential seal … did not disrespect historical American institutions, and traditions, as a way of selling his Change message … did not use accusations of race in response to every opposing argument … did not flip flop on important issues … chose Hillarry as his running mate … as well as several other substantive factors.
What happened in the Michigan Primary was “electoral welfare.”
Hit that message loud and proud. They gave votes away to someone who didn’t even try.
If the Democratic Party was so casual in giving away my VOTE, what are they going to do with my tax dollars?
A vote for McCain is a vote for Hillary Clinton ‘12.
I am in total panic mode myself. I have plans to leave the country November 5, to start with, because if McCain wins the race nonsense riots start. I will NOT subject my family, children, no one to an Obama US. I will officially leave this country. I suspect any decent person with money would do the same and immediately get out. So, the Obama voters who are only in this for a handout??? Where’s it coming from? We don’t HAVE the money to just hand out everything we own to Africa and people in America who won’t work. It’s mindboggling that there are stupid idiots who would vote for Obama and the complete destruction of this country. I am praying for the October surprises. It will help. But if anything Obama’s candidacy has shown me is that the ignorance in this country has reached record levels. All these Obama voters KNOW how dangerous, amoral, unethical, racist, America hating, associated with unrepetent known terrorists, etc. Obama is and they are still too stupid to do the right thing and keep him out of the White House. Good luck with that. When America becomes Cuba, people who can, and who have money, will get out quickly. There won’t BE an America. NOBAMA NEVER.
Actually the polls also underestimate something I would call “lying to pollsters”. Somewhat related to the Bradley effect. I would not over-estimate but would still give it a 1% effect. The way I, anecdotally, have heard about it is that many polling respondents claim they will vote for Obama because that is what they believe the pollsters want to hear – and they are glad to feed bad inteliigence to them. Bradely Effect has more to do with respondents not wanting to admit they will not vote for a black candidate. The phenomenon I am talking about has nothing to do with race – I know about this because I did it myself during the primaries. I took a polling call and, because the questions seemed to be tilted pro-Obama, I answered every question “pro-Obama”. This was right before the PA primary where I live. I had no intentions of voting for Obama. But that is not what I told the pollster. I was glad to do my admittedly small part in creating over-confidence. I am sure I am not the only person who does this sort of thing.
your CNN numbers are wrong Ryan, it’s 44-47 Obama. so he’s winning that too.
